enjoyed his teaching alot, coming out of the class & able to apply to real life
bad composition skills on lectures -unecessarily wordy, tests confusing/hard
Online class. Good written lectures.
Awesome in the classroom, cares a lot, practical application of material
Tests are hard.
His tests are a bit challenging, however the material is very well covered and the tests are multiple choice. Jay is a naturally a great teacher and a very nice person. He is available for help when you need it also.
a very kind teacher
Jay is a really kind Prof. His lec. are so interesting and amazing. He talks about real world. So not only you learn econ. from him, you also learn what is going on in the real world.
he is a wonderful teacher!! the best in foothill!!

Not easy but if you study it's ok
He is sooooooo great!! He gives really good lectures and I think he has a great sense of humor... Should take him if you need to take econ classes... he is really good!
A wonderful teacher. The best at Foothill. In addition, the tests are pretty easy just like the student review guide. A student who claims that the tests are hard probably didn't study hard enough.
Class and tests are relatively easy. Only complaint is lack of flexibility in online test taking. You MUST be available during the ONE AND ONLY time window he gives for each test.
Excellent teacher...online exams are easy if u do the reading and study from his lecture notes.
very good lecturer .. excellent teacher.. you have to study a lot for his midterms and if you do, you will do pretty good. its hard to get a perfect score though no matter how much you study
Good teacher. Makes a lot of effort to make a dry subject clear and interesting. Speaks off topic, but not in a bad way. Very helpful, has experience in business that is helpful for those pursuing the major.
Really good instructor. Knows what his talking about, relate theory to the real world. expalnations are very clear. Test might be bit hard, but if you keep up with reading and attending lectures you're safe :)Highly Recommend
patyk is VERY detail orieted and thorough. he is always available for office hours, and is really helpful in explaining the material to the student.
He is great. If you study, you can get great results as his exams are easy... There are practise exams too. And if you hand in your assignment with enough points and words, you can properly get full marks for that assignment. Extra credit is avaliable.
a super* nice teacher who talks about wallstreet journal and his wife A LOT. u need to study a bit for his exams to get an A. if you turn in the written assignment and extra credit you'll probably get full credit. highly recommend his class.
A truly great teacher and a even better man. Teachers like him make me like college.
One of the best teacher I have ever had!!! Very helpful, disponible, funny, great exchanges of ideas with students... and easy A!!! Take his class!!
A very kind and responsible man. Very helpful. I can learn a lot in his class.
Best Econ professor ever! Super nice guy too!
Helpful, friendly, and intelligent. Tests are not hard and you learn a lot from taking his classes. Highly recommend!
His passion for economics comes through. Workload was easy, but content a bit difficult. Online lectures very well done.
a vyvy nice man, he loves to help students. lecture is clear n easy to understand, exams are fair. he gives out a lots of free points (assignment and extra credit). highly recommend his class!
Easy Instructor Willing to Help
This guy is awesome!!!
Awesome!!Exquisite! Patyk and Davidson (Sid) are without a doubt the best teachers at Foothill. I love their teaching!!! You regret that the week has only 5 school days...you wish you could attend their class on weekends, too. :-)
He's such an awesome teacher ! Lectures are very helpful, although they are boring sometimes. Tests are all multiple-choice, quite easy, come straight from the notes and similar to the sample exam. Give extra credit ! I absolutely recommend him.
this teacher is sooo nice. before i took this class, i hated econ. now i really enjoy it. he is really intelligent and is passionate about teaching. he explains things really well and is the best teacher at foothill. plus he's cute!
Awesome teacher who really knows his stuff and is always available to help you out. His tests are somewhat easy if you go to class and read the chapters. He doesn't try to trick you, just test your understanding. I would totally recommend him.
Not a good class. Very difficult.
don't take his class. he doen't know what he is doing.
quite a fun class.. he has a good way of teaching economics.. and seems to love the subject
He is the best! His lectures are clear and easy to follow, he's hilarious, and his tests are pretty easy. He gives out extra credit that really raise your grade. He is very approachable, and he NEVER makes you feel stupid or belittled, he is one of the nicest people I know.

Very unhelpful teacher!!! He thinks he's hilarious, but he's not at all. He's having fun himself it's just unbearable!!! Take this class with Mr.Evans.
he is a nice guy and he is helpful. he is willing to answer student's questions no matter in class or after class. although sometimes his lectures are boring, but he explains things really clear and orgainized. also, he tests are easy too as he only gives the MC questions.
Have to take test when he says(WEDPM), lots of reading-book&lecture, but not too hard. only 1 ec chance, tests take a bit of effort. i got a B w/many 3-5hrs a wk of work
great teacher...got an A for both of his classes...very hard, but i learned A LOT! Amazing lectures...You go, man! :-)

easy class. MC questions in exams. nice guy and is always willing to help students out. personally dont find the lectures very useful tho
One of the best teachers at foothill. Has a great sense of humor, cares alot about students and is very understanding.
great teacher, got a b for both classes, but i've only studied 2 days before the exams and i've submitted the extra credit assignments. explains very well, he is helpful and economics is not my best subject, but i've gained a lot from his classes. he is one of my fav. teachers ever.
Knows his stuff. I learned a lot. Great teacher. good lectures. Hard but fair.
do not take this class online!
easy B, if you don't do anything
A great teacher who clearly loves the subject and teaching. Not an easy class, but the help is there if you need it. I reccomend him for all economics classes at Foothill.
not hard. he's helpful. but quite boring lecture unless you are really concerned about world economics. easy mid-terms. final is a bit harder.
Good teacher that tries to make his subject interesting for his students. He is very helpful, and will help you all that you need. There is no final, instead there are 3 50 question multiple choice exams. They are pretty difficult. Give you a little bit of extra credit which is easy to earn. I recommend him.
great teacher, very funny
For me, the subject itself was a struggle. But he is so helpful and willing to help. You need to be devoted to the subject. It's not an easy class and he knows that too. I love Mr. Patyk. He is very funny!
The guy is a loser- he admits it himself... daily. He talks way too much, and does not care for the student. When asked to make any kind allowance, he weasles out of them and then adds "I don't care!" and shrugs.
do not take this class online unless u r really interested in macroecon or have had other econ courses. patyk does an ok job explaining this INTRODUCTORY class but his xams r strictly ADVANCED level - acts almost a like cult recruiter. h/w not too difficult but due every single week. 4 xams, 1 essay extra credit. u will struggle for a good grade.
Very fair and intersting professor! I highly recommend his course!
Really nice guy. Go to class, read the book, take the practice exams and you'll get a sure A
If you put your mind to it, you can get a lot done in his class, for instance I caught up on a lot of sleep. When not ranting at length (sometimes more than an hour straight) about his low pay, his distain for phDs,the parties he attends, what a great teacher he is, his nice watch... he's a decent teacher. Easy A.
He's kind and always tries his best to help student learning
There is alpha web homework twice weekly, three exams in quarter, 3 one pages paper at end of quarter. Thoughout the quarter he'll advertise how an you can get an easy 'A' in his class and advertise his other classes, but really your grade will be basic on your earning from exams, homeworks, and paper. Don't believe his advertisments, not easy A.
All he does is talk about his $7,000 watch and how much his wife hates him. He barely even talks about econ, you have to teach yourself from the book. I hated him, he doesn't teach anything you have to teach yourself... Econ is my major but i will never take any class he teaches again!!!
Horrible teacher. He goes from one thought to the other and somehow manages to bring up his issues with his wife and how he hates kids. He thinks he's funny and everyone in a while he tells these corny jokes that are so lame you can't help, but feel sorry for him with a, "Hahaha... Oh dear!" Good luck! You're gonna need it.

DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS.Patyk is a horrible instructor.Tricks students by using wording different from the book. His "notes" are confusing and half are just stolen from the book.He wants you to fail.No easy A here.B is the best you will get and its hard to do.His jokes are lame, his tests are confusing.Macro shouldn't be this hard, but he makes it so.
He is the most horrible instructor I've ever seen. The textbook that he's using is good, but his note does make you confused and he put some questions in the test that are not in the text or even on his note! He is rude. In his syllabus, he tells not to ask a question before you read the textbook or note, because it's a wate of time. But taking his
Just make sure you do the readings from the text. The class may be challenging if you are an international student. Class is EASY if you read. Stay on top of everything and on the final you can get around 70% correct and still have an A as your final grade.
If his class was based on his life story, you are gaurenteed to pass with flying colors. If your also interested in hearing about an economic teacher's social problems, than this class is definitely for you! if you really must take him, unfortunately only 20 minutes of his class is necessary to actually get the notes so you'll know what to study :
he is not as easy as he used to. he has changed. the average grade of his class is C which is not good. even students study so hard but still hard to get good result in his class. i really dun want you to suffer what i am suffering right now, so all in all *DO NOT TAKE HIM*
He is a great professor. If you attend the class regularly, and read the text book, you will be fine.
I had macro econ online with Patyk. It was a straight-forward class. The 4 exams where open-book online. Afterwards, incorrect answeres were explained in detail. Weekly homework was thru the Aplia website. Reading the chapters, lecture notes, and homework generally prepared you for the tests. I did well enough in the class. Would take Patyk again.
Very clear and straightforward. Tests are fair and pretty easy. As long as you take notes and pay attention, you will be fine. Highly recomended. Excellent teacher.
Very Boring. Very Hea. Spending half of his lesson on telling "jokes" and talking about "interesting articles" everyday, you wont have any intensive to attend his class. If you have studied econ before, u will find his class very easy. If you want to learn something, take Evans.
I have taken an online version of the class. The teacher is very organized and fair. The greatest challenge were his online mid-terms and the final. Because they must be "open book" of necessity, he made the exams more like IQ tests. I have been able to score enough for an A but it took pretty serious effort; it is definitely not for everyone.
VERY HELPFUL
Great Teacher, and very funny. Recomend taking his class. Very Easy.
I took this class online. Just do the homework, study, and read the lectures and you'll for sure get a good grade.
Pleas do not tale his class.....take him if you want to hear him talk, about his personal life, his wife, the nice cars and houses he wishes to have OMG his Horrible. You can study and do all the work and still get a "C" he is bad and not funny he tries to hard to be funny he puts everyone to sleep!!!!
Super EASY A!!!! He do not take attentdent and I never go to class becasue he is EXTREMELY x 1000000000 boring !!!!!!!!!!!! But don't worry, Just read the book, do the HW(Aplia)online, do the Extra credit, don't go to class, you can get A. Someone said that his class is difficult and got C. I don't agree. If you workhard and read the book, must A.
i love him! he's just so awesome. although, he puts u to sleep w/ all his endless talking about his wife & life, and of course u don't really learn anything about econ... but hell, u learn about life (& most importantly -him.. lol)
Mr Patyk, is very nice and helpful. However, he has some problems with his brain. He is being incredibly polite all the time. If you wanna have an easy class, but also learn about Economics, take him. Highly Recommended!
Probably the most boring class i have ever taken. I attended every class and it didn't matter, because he never actually teaches on stuff we need to know.. Only about Global warming and our "carbon Footprint". DO not take this teacher, he goes off topic about pointless stuff for a long time then complains to the class that it's their fault.. BORING
Useless professor. He doesnt know what he is talking about, and makes up stories aout his life to appear more hip and cool. He's a joke and his classes are jokes too. Everyday, I count the number of times he mentions how lame he is, his wife makes more money, he knows someone famous... Complete waste of my time
He is a nice guy and is very talkative. I do feel like that he cares about environment protection and social welfare, but I really want to learn academic macroeconomic knowledge. Sometimes, he wasted time in class talking about his life and wife.
Great Guy. Great Professor. When you take his class, remember to go to the library to prepare for exams (the library has practice exams, which he provides for them)
I took this class online. This prof did answer all questions, but he lets his personal opinions leak into his posts. I disagree with many of his opinions, but when I stated my case, he basically told me I was wrong. Class is not very hard, but don't take everything he says about current events at face value.
Online course. Very confusing. Basically a class all about how fabulous capitalism is. Book was horrible. Would not recommend taking it if you can get out of it.
I hate microeconomics but I loved mr.patyks class. He's a genuine nice guy who tries to make his class laugh while teaching economics. There needs to be more teachers like him! I would definately recommend him as a teacher. I would take him again to learn macro.
His class is extremly boring! I love Econ but his lectures were unbearable, if you look around you will see a bunch of people sleeping. Besides that the class is not that hard you just have to read the textbook very closely in order to do well on exams and aplia assignments.
This was a challenging class (especially since I took it during summer session). I'm surprised by the negative comments regarding Mr. Patyk. He made himself more available for assistance than most teachers. I felt I learned a lot. I totally recommend this class to any student who truly has an interest in economics.
Very helpful, will go out of his way to assist students, all you have to do is ask.
Great teacher. Does a great job explaining concepts of economics and the assigned work and difficulty of tests are fair and reasonable.
Patyk does not teach much in class and most of the time is boring. You need to read over the text in order to do well in his three tests. Go ask him during office hours he's really helpful and will explain things in details for you. He grades on accumulative points which allows me to keep track of my grade during the quarter.
thumbs up! he is a nice guy! i took him last fall quarter. he will help u if u ask. his class is kinda boring, but his notes are really helpful. difficulty of his tests are fair. i will take him again next quarter! =)
Nice guy. Great for an intro class like micro. Rambles on about unrelated stuff a lot. Lectures can be boring if you're not interested in econ. Really helpful, tests aren't hard if you take good notes. Not too much homework especially late in the quarter. Would take again.
The key to doing well in Jay's class is to attend every single session. If you pay attention & take good notes when hes lecturing, youll do GREAT on his tests (mostly MC). His lectures are interesting & his hilarious sarcasm keeps class lively. Jay's got a contagious passion for Econ and I definitely recommend him! (Disclaimer: I took 1A before 1B)
I love Jay!!! I took both Econ 1A 1B with Jay and they were very different experiences. Econ 1B might be the most interesting class I have ever taken, given that I am a Econ major and I simply enjoy microecon! I earned an A+ with on pressure. I am done with the econ classes now but I still wish he had more econ classes that I can take.
This was definitely the most difficult online class I have ever taken. Patyk even said himself that he intentionally made the course harder just because it was online. The class average for tests were always barely passing so I feel lucky to have earned a B. Definitely take this class in person.
This class is ridiculous... His exams are hard.. However, he respond to us very quickly... But that will still hurt my gpa -.-... I'm thinking of getting to another 1A class next fall...
I took Jay's class online during the summer so I didn't see him but he was online daily and responded promptly to e-mails. This introductory class has lots of reading and I took the 3 hours for exams so get ready to work!
Online class is taught out of the book. Took over summer-read 1 chapter per day. He was good about answering emails, and he really tried. Easy 30 pt extra credit. Tests were 3 hours long but still had to guess at the end. I was way above class average on every test and ended up with a B+ because he doesn't curve class at all. Overall glad I'm done
Take him!! I took him for both my econ classes micro 1B and macro 1A. He gives notes for every meeting and all the exams come from them. He teaches clear basic of economics. 3exams, 1 paper, and HWs. No points for attendance. He's great! =D
Took him for 1A and 1B. He's a great teacher one of the best I've ever had. His online class is some what harder than his in class but as long as you read you'll pass. Those who don't read will definitely fail since this is heavily textbook based. His lectures just goes over key points of the textbook. Overall, GREAT TEACHER
overall so-so.. a really helpful professor and he really cares about his students.. easy B but not A
He is an EASY-A and great pro!He is helpful and teaches clearly. The exams are easy and are composed of MC questions. Each of his 3 exams counts for 150 pts out of 600 so you can make up the score required for an A easily.I sucked in my first mid-term and I still managed to get an A+. Extra credits are also available!Take him!
I don't know why "EASY" is used to rate a GOOD professor. I would rather have a hard effective one. He always talk about his wife and how useless he is. And he says food for thought 12 times per day. He grades emotionally - as in whether or not he likes you. Doesnt hurt your grade, but he inflates the grades of his fav students.
I took online with him. This online class was hardest one so far. I dont know about in class but i dont recommend this professor for online class. SUPER HARD.
what an awesome professor. take him if you want to learn something. took his in class and was really inspired, going to take him again. he actually makes economics interesting, and you can feel his passion for the subject. you have to work for your A, but it's not impossible. assignments given are pretty easy.
He has very good lectures, notes, and even practices tests. Sometimes he goes off topic during lectures and the 2 hour lectures seem a bit long and boring. His tests are all multiple choice and in my perspective, VERY VERY HARD! 50 minutes for 50 multiple choice questions. The online aplia assignments are also a bit tricky and hard.
His ECON 1A class is NO joke. The class average for each test so far is in the low 60's. You are allowed 3 hours for each test and there are 65 questions. You are allowed to use open book, but you will NOT be able to look up the answers in the book unless you really understand the concepts. To get an "A" you need to have a natural "nack" for it.
He is honestly one of the most nicest and understanding instructor you'll ever meet. His midterms and course work are fair but challenging as well. He makes time for students and truly tries to help them understand the concepts of econ. He's also caring and I've learned so much in his class even though it was still difficult for me. Take him!
He is a very good professor. I highly recommend. He makes economics fun and very easy to understand. First class I've had where only two or three people total dropped the class. Take him. He is awesome. YTou wont regret.
He is definitely one of the best teachers I have ever had. His clarity, notes and explainations are incomparable to any I've had before. He makes time for any student struggling and is just one of the most positive and friendly people I have encountered. DEFINITELY take his class
Horrible teacher and REALLY hard tests. He expects us all to be Econ majors even though it's an intro class. He purposely makes tests hard and is happy when our class average is 60% for tests. He babbles a lot in lecture without really helping much. Don't take him unless you're really into Econ and know the subject prior.
Hard grader. He definitely isn't on your side for tests. He makes them super hard on purpose and like others have said, is happy when students get low C's. I'm trying to read and get a good grade but he makes it near impossible!
Best Econ teacher ever!!! I wasn't interested in economics at all when i started the class and now i enjoy it. He genuinely cares about his students and he is funny too :)
The class itself was interesting and very challenging. Tests in my opinion, were exceptionally hard (this is supposed to be an entry level econ class. My real issue with the tests though were the VERY specific times that you could take them. If that time didn't work for you too bad basically. He made that very clear! A 3 hour window does not work!
ONLINE CLASS: Tough subject matter, tough class.Prof was VERY helpful and flexible with the exam schedule. Tests were hard, but fair. We're supposed to be challenged, not babysat.Prof does care if you do well - he just isn't there to babysit.YOU have to do the work. I felt challenged in this class and learned quite a bit.
Explain very well but grade a little bit tough, but still fair to students. However, he always provide video in course, some are even irrelevant to the course, and some of the exam questions are based on those video. Anyway, he is considerable, but not the best.
won't try ti judge (hence fall prey to fallacy) but I will tell what I like & don't. I like J trying to expand concepts to things that are not necessary for the test but I found inspiring: his ideas and passions, about life and happiness& many food for thoughts. Why? b/c the econ things I can find in my textbook myself - don't need a teacher. Tks.
Recommend highly! Took Micro/Macro with him. Econ not easy! Don't take online unless it is only option. You need to attend class to hear lectures, as his explanations help tremendously. Extremely helpful, interested in student success. Tests are hard; you need to study and come to class; you'll be fine then. Gives food for thought beyond text.
Mr Patyk is AWESOME!!! You do have to be responsible for your own learning, as in make it an initiative on your part to read the textbook and attend classes regularly. He's a better professor if you attend his classes on campus in person; he's an inspiration personified.
He rambles a little in class, but is very clear during his lectures. Helps any students out if they are willing to come in and talk to him. Says tests are hard but they really aren't if you read the textbook and do the practice exams. Recommend him!
nice and gentle man. although his lecture may bored you, take his notes! notes he writes on board is very useful to your exams. if economics is your major, take him cause you'll learn much from him. if not, think twice as he is quite a hard prof.
Mr. Patyk is really the greatest prof that I have ever met. Only a few MCQs a week. Work hard and you will get a good grade!
Prof Jay is a good professor. He is prepared and used the board well. I like that he does not use slides. He does talk about life and how to live a lot. It doesn't feel relevant to the class perhaps we should take note since he is an "old" person as he claims. He is not all math in this intro class. Overall, a great prof who cares.
Good professor. Like any class- you NEED TO ATTEND!!! He does use a lot of great real world examples and his enthusiasm for the subject is very obvious. His exams are fair- but again, you need to read the book and do some studing on your own outside of class.
Very Recommended for those who are interested in eons! i learned a lot from him. overall, nice guy to talk to. study hard and be prepared to get a good grade. A is a possible!
Here's the deal with the online class: devote at least 3 hours of studying and reading a day before reading Jay's lectures. Then try to do as much of the homework as possible and take advantage of the practice tests. Budget your night hours for exams. Plan ahead! Not an easy class but I got an A last quarter, and I am a learning disability student!
DO NOT TAKE ONLINE. Tests are extremely hard
he's a great, caring teacher. take him for sure!
The class is NOT easy but professor Patyk is awesome. He takes time to send out email reminders and clarifications on tests and hw assignments. He's extremely helpful and will respond to all your emails.Make sure to read the text before reading his notes.extra credit is a must! 3 mid terms,1 final, weekly quizzes.
Jay is a great professor. Just like any Econ class it is hard, but if you take notes and listen occasionally you will do well. I would have had an A- if I did more than sixty percent of the HW. HW is important. Im not smart and if I can get a B anyone can. Jay is also very funny and enjoys helping students and entertaining them with econ
Jay is a great teacher, and is very passionate about what he teaches. The class itself is very difficult. For this one in particular, you really have to be interested in and/or have some knowledge on the subject, and how to apply the concepts to do well. Overall, I'd suggest to course to those who are already interested in econ.
Professor Patyk is one of the best professors that I have met. His teaching is crystal clear and you won't miss any important concept if you participate in the lectures. I got an A from him. It is extremely easy. Midterms and final are all MCQs and practice paper is available before each test.
His online class is flat out DIFFICULT. But with consistent hard work and re-reading the text multiple times, a good grade is reachable! He has a really considerate and genuine character. However he doesn't play around when it comes to exams. No curve. Avoid if you want an easy online course. His exams are very conceptual, so beware!
Mr. Patyk is probably one of the most genuine and helpful teachers I've ever had. I was the student that never came to class, and was pretty much that frustrating guy. However Mr. Patyk always strove to help me even when I truly didn't deserve it. He gives you all the tools to succeed, hw/ practice test and is an amazing man that I highly respect.
He presents information clearly but his tests are HARD. He has a practice test but the questions are much harder in the real test. Doesn't use textbook. Studying it is a waste of time.
Great teacher. Interesting classes and always willing to help.
He is super nice, very responsible. He taught you things outside of the textbook which is super useful for young people. I changed my major to econ after I took his class. Easy to achieve high grade too, if you read the text and go to class.
Very accommodating and helpful professor!
You must always be keeping up and ready with the materials prior to class. Reading before class really helps plus constant chapter reviews. Regularly set up office hours, to discuss with him with whatever problems you may have, he's there for you.
DO NOT take his online class if you are familiar with the material already. His assignments and exams are super challenging and really tough.
He's very helpful but his class is kinda confusing... you must definitely re-read everything once you get home or you'll find it hard to pass the exam..
It's a typical Marcoeconomics class. 4 big tests online, many of the answers are on the internet, but if you read, you'll get a MUCH higer grade. Keeps things clear cut. I've taken a few econ classes and this one was the easiest. Defintely take part in the class disc. They are interesting and are like FREE POINTS. Do it. Cuz you can read the WSJ!
His class was enjoyable, not without faults. The materiallectures can be dull sometimes, exams are timed increasing their difficulty and he can be biased in his teaching. However he's passionate about economics, is always there for students, has a great sense of humor and is great person to have a conversation with. Recommend! P.S read the book.
His lectures are amazing! He encourages his students to do well, and it's not impossible to receive a near perfect grade for each exam. He jokes around on appropriate times and is very passionate about teaching. If you have any questions, he'll always be there to answer to your needs. He gives an extra credits, and very few assignments.
Don't take him. Unless you want to learn Jay Patyk's life instead of Economics. Book is more helpful compare to his lectures. Be ready to read.
His online class was amazing. You would easily get an A if you read the textbook. Otherwise, you would fail the class. You'll also learn a lot by reading it. Advise: DO NOT trust Yahoo answers while taking an exam. You'll regret it if you do.
His lectures are a lot of times more like motivational speeches, telling us to do well which is a bit annoying since in there to learn Econ. He does a great job teaching, love his style, has notes written up on board and very clear. He is very nice and availible a lot out of class. Studied the book and missed class a lot but tests were easy.
In his lecture, I can feel his passion on economics. He always encourage us and respect students' opinions. Two mid-terms and one final. Have to read books if you wanna get good grade. One paper for extra credit.
I really liked his class. Exams are not too hard. You'll learn a lot. Take him.
A good teacher, although he does tend to digress for the first 20 min or so of class. Otherwise very clear, especially about his expectations in the tests. Would definatly recomend
Jay is a great teacher and a good person who cares about his students. Pros: -Examples on board are super clear and are easy to follow -Always a bit of humor added to the lecture, never bored in class -Online assignments are straight foward and are 10 questions max, only asking questions on the material that is going to be on the big tests.
great teacher, super helpfull, he talks about material and writes it on the white board simultaneously which worked well with me. Strongly advise taking him
Mr. Patyk is THE econ teacher you'd want to take! He provides AMAZING lectures plus hilarious true stories as examples. True, his tests aren't easy (BECAUSE IT IS ECONOMICS), but they are FAIR. If you come to class, diligently take notes + read the textbook, you'll have nothing to worry about. Be sure to also read ahead of the class!
Jay is a nice professor. He means well but sometimes I'd say that his lectures would stray a bit off topic for him to preach about his own ideals. Overall, Jay is clear on what he expects and gives you the tools to succeed. I'd recommend taking his 10am class rather than 8am. Econ is too dry for early mornings.
Mr Patyk is extremely helpful. He wants all of his students to succeed and he's done his best to realize that. Would definitely take again!
I trusted the students' reviews written for Patyk and took his course. I did read the text several times and tried my best to understand the concept and all. His exam is way tougher than the textbook itself. According to Patyk's announcement, the average grade of students was 70% for the 'first' midterm. I hope he is not trying to fail us all....
Patyk should realize that there is a reason for students to take courses online. We do not need any special treatment from him but at least give us tests that are actually on the text book. What does he expect from us? Studying for entry level ECON for 24/7? I do not understand his logic. His tests are extremely difficult guys. DO NOT TAKE HIM
Endless twists on the test. even with reading the text and his lectures about 3 times there were a lot of questions that I had to think for a long time(I believe I got them all wrong lol just too difficult). If you enjoy challenges, go ahead take his course, if you want to graduate with good grades, do not.
Great on-line class experience!
Definitely one of the hardest courses ever! I got my final grade and it is B. If I did not devote almost 4 hours per day, I am sure I would've gotten C or D or even F. Yes, this course is extremely difficult. The final exam average was 65%, can you imagine? The professor seems to care a lot of his course but is a tough grader.
He was the best professors I ever met. To get a good grade, you have to read the textbook and try his study guide. I heard his online classes are a little bit harder, but if I were an econ major, I would have taken all econ class with him. His class is very straight forward which is excellent for an English for second language students.
Took the online course, no it wasn't easy but if you read what you're suppose to and aren't dumb you will be fine. Jay is very helpful, and grading is very straightforward. Would definitely recommend.
Very much cares about students, but lectures are not very effective. I did most learning through the book because he gets very off topic and rushes through lessons when he is running out of time. Very easy to get lost during class especially if you become unfocused easily. On the plus side, he is always open to meeting with students on on one.
Best economics professor of the three I've had. He is very accessible, and taking a little time to introduce yourself goes a long way. He is not a difficult teacher. Keep up with the reading and attend the lectures and you will be fine. The homework assignments are easy and usually only 5-10 MC questions.
I took Econ 1B with Jay Patyk, and I think he is a great professor. Occasionally his lectures may go slightly off-topic, but then he manages to get back to Econ material quickly. He tells jokes and takes examples from his personal experiences, which is cool because it makes the concepts relevant. Come to class, do the reading, and you'll be good :)
I really like Jay Patyk's lectures . He tries his best to simplify the tough concepts and usually even stays back after a class to solve all your questions and queries. The assignments are also usually pretty straight forward and not too time consuming ! If you attend his class regularly and prepare well before the tests, you'll score well :)
lectures & textbook are pretty interesting reads just lengthy. some concepts can get confusing but Prof. Patyk is willing to help where needed. don't fall behind in readings, it's really hard to catch up in time for the final exam. discussions are interesting to participate in.
Fantastic economics professor. He tries to relate everything to a personal experience where students could better understand. He shares many things he likes and dislikes. Politics is a huge topic in his lectures due to the subject matter. He sure loves his Chevy Volt. Exams are exactly on what we learned, and he lays out the topics we focus on.
Mr. Patyk gives an amazing Econ honors seminar. He was so inspirational I wanted to major in Econ. I took Econ 1B, he ripped the rug out from beneath me, no matter how much H-work, studying or tutors I seen. Nothing was good enough. He complained about his personal life, his childhood, the tutors giving away answers to the students(he's stressful).
He is very enthusiastic in making his students completely understand economics in the real world. Sometimes he can get carried away in discussion, but he is very considerate towards all of his students and is funny and easy to talk to.
Great professor!
He cracks some jokes, which keeps the class entertained. His lectures can be tangent for an hr, which makes up half the the class, but other than that, a fabulous teacher. He really makes sure you know what will be on the midterm. He wont hold ur hand and make you attend. In order to get an A, you do need to study and read the textbook (homework)
chaotic course. Teacher was not clear about instructions and the student is punished for his lack of effort. He is a lazy teacher where it matters. you will find most the material online because he recycles 90% of his coursework. Things that say "extra credit assignment" are not actually extra credit but another assignment. Do the discussions!!!
you have to read the textbook to pass with a good grade in this class. Jay's lecturing is clear but he goes way off topic A LOT of the time and it totally disrupts your train of thoughts on the material. He doesn't write everything on the board so make sure to take clear notes. He does have practice exams which is nice. Good intentions as teacher
Jay was a hardworking, kindhearted instructor. You can tell he legitimately cares and wishes for the best of his students. His lectures are, not going to lie, kind of boring, but he throws in some jokes or personal stories once in a while to try to make his class seem a little bit more fun.
There are a lot of people who dont attend class, and I dont think he gives them any penalty. But, he does have questions on his exams, where people who attended class, only could know the answer. Theres a lot of reading the textbook in the course, so my best advice other than to read, would be for people to utilize his practice exams.
All he does is talk about his own life. There is a lot of information, and I would rather focus on the information since econ is difficult. I just felt like he expected too much when he didnt give us a good chance. On the first midterm, the class average was in the 60s for the percent.
Awesome class. I thought I hated macro until I took this course from him. He makes this course incredibly relatable, and he really wants you to understand the concepts. So his tests are not easy, you have to actually read the textbook (which, for a textbook, is actually entertaining), but he offers lots of extra credit points, and quizzes are easy.
He does tend to talk a lot during lectures, sometimes goes off topic but he's a caring professor! If you do your reading on the book previously before class you should do well. Gives some extra credit options too
Jay is an awesome teacher who really cares about his students and is passionate about econ. He truly wants you to succeed. He can ramble occasionally but don't be afraid to veer him back on topic- he is good natured and doesn't mind. Stay after class to chat with him about econ in current events, you won't be disappointed!
Great teacher. I loved how organized and structured the class was. He also sends out announcements weekly and sends reminders about when things are due. If you read the text and his lectures, you should do fine on the quizzes and midterms. Would definitely take a class from him again.
Just took Professor Patyk's Macro online course and could not be happier with the results. The (online) class consists of weekly chapter quizzes, frequent discussions, no homework, three exams and a non-cumulative final. Read the textbook and follow along with his lectures and you'll do fine. No surprises in this course, definitely recommend.
All exams consist of multiple choice questions. The prof is a tough grader, he doesn't give ANY credit if you pick the wrong answer on the exams. Don't take him if your not sure you'll pick the right answer.
Professor Patyk's ECON 1A class was relatively easy, so long as you did the reading. Four tests throughout the quarter and a handful of required online discussions were primary assignments. Generous Extra Credit was available to balance a bad score on a test. Did well on 3/4 tests and ended up with an A, bombed 1. He'll work with you on issues!
If you are taking more than 1 class DO NOT take this one. Theres 4 quizzes for the quarter. They are test, which are timed for 2 hrs with 65 questions. Theres only one extra credit assignment towards the end of the quarter worth only 30 points. Hes a good professor if your only focus is school. If you work or have additional classes DONT!
Professor Patyk is passionate about teaching and knows what he is doing. Although he may talk about his irrelevant things such as his electric car and solar panels during lectures, his tests and exams are very hard! Pay attention to everything he writes down on the whiteboard including brief discussion of books. Study hard and you will do well.
Class is just readings+open-book exams/quizzes (with a few discussions & extra credit paper). Has online "lectures" (short readings with optional videos which summarize book), but I recommend using the book as your main source when able. Exams/quizzes pretty easy, just make sure to check answers thoroughly. Not a harsh grader on discussions.
Prof. Jay was great but never got a chance to even video him. He solves problems only by emails, the lectures are too long and there is not a lot of extra credit. As long as you read the textbook and the lectures, you are good. The class lacks energy and motivation.
Econ is hard in general. I didn't feel as supported by this teacher. There were a lot of things you had to do on your own. There is a lot of reading and a lot of tests and quizzes. He also had some sort of attitude. I would not take him again. There was AAALLOOOTT of reading and quizzes. I can not emphasize this enough.
Jay provided great feedback and was more engaged than any teacher I have had so far in online learning. He really excelled in all areas. He definitely strictly adheres to dates and deadlines so be careful to keep those in order. The third section of the course is the hardest by far invest more time there.
Just read the textbook and watch a few videos or participate in a few discussions. Nothing unexpected and there is extra credit. Prof. is chill and helpful.
Professor is super strict about deadlines but very knowledgeable and is willing to help if you ask. Not a lot of extra credit (20 points out of 700). Only take this class if you are willing to put in time and effort in reading the textbook and attending/looking at all lectures. Needs A LOT of motivation and discipline to get a good grade.
Super easy, basically 1 quiz a week, plus 4 discussions and 3 exams for the whole quarter. Lots of answers on quizlet for most of the classes.
He is a solid choice if you are taking econ for your major. The quizzes aren't too bad, exams aren't either. I think if you dedicate some time for this class you will be fine and pass the class. Overall, Take this class if you want econ to be stressless because some econ teacher in foothill aren't like this guy.
I liked this class. I enjoyed reading his lectures. You have to read the chapter assigned plus his online lectures. also watching the videos he links in his lectures helped a lot. the quizzes/tests may ask things that the online lectures don't have to read the textbook is important. the discussions connect to today's events, which I loved.
The class itself is very quiz/test heavy. There are no other assignments except tests, quizzes, and 6 discussions. I read the textbook and took Econ in high school so it wasn't hard but some people found the class hard. He let me take the final early cause of a family emergency so I really appreciate that. A great professor would take again.
Interesting lectures that apply to the real world! 10 question quizzes are the only homework graded throughout the quarter and the rest of the tasks are up to you to read the textbook chapters and lectures. Beware there are 4 scheduled major 2-hour timed tests for every unit, no make-ups, and no extra attempts.
