He is a very good teacher and he tries to make the class interesting. He interacts a lot during lecture, but if you dont like doing work dont take this class. There is soo much you have to complete. There are like 15 quizzes, postings,map test, pop quiz, final, and 6 papers!! It is very time consuming!

Dr. Pearce got me interested in politics and government. I now go to a larger university where I am majoring in political science and history, thanks to Dr. Pearce. If you don't attend his class every day, you WILL fail. Every lecture is important. He's very passionate about his subject: he knows, lives, breathes, and loves it. He is an excellent teacher. His finals are extremely hard, but if you do great on all of the assignments, you'll pass. I loved the arguments we had after writing the papers!

Amazing professor!! I looked forward to each class. He has online quizzes over reading, no tests, but he has you write papers and debate in class. I was at first very scared for the debates but they were very enjoyable. He really wants you to understand the material. I would strongly recommend him!

The best professor Black Hawk College. I loved going to his classes, he makes everything easy to understand. Before I took this class I didn't really know much about Political Science. Pearce made it fun, no test but there are online quizes you need to read the book. If you take this course you will have fun and learn so much.

He manages the rare feat of being funny, charming and self-deprecating in his lectures while still covering all the material clearly and in detail. Yes, he has a tendency to swear, but we are all (presumably) adults here.

Dr. Pearce is the best educator I have ever had. His is one of the few collage classes I would attend for fun. The workload is somewhat heavier than other classes; however unlike some collage courses, all Dr. Pearce's assignments are designed to engage his students in what is happening in the classroom. Absolutly no busy work here.

Man... His classes are TIME CONSUMING. The material in the quizzes are difficult to find, and his class is really hard. That being said, he's very pleasant to be around and his class is really entertaining. Oh, he has bad notes too online but he thinks they're good. I know why people like him, but beware that you will work your butt off.

Wonderful professor!! He is everything a college professor SHOULD be! He is very strict with attendance, so go to class! There are TONS of reading and online quizzes, do those and you'll do fine. NOT a fan of the debates in class, if you write a good paper, you'll be fine. READ THE SYLLABUS! He makes it very clear in there what is expected.

I would recommend this teacher to anybody. He really changed the way I think about history. Sometimes his lectures seem a bit biased, but he is still a great teacher that sees the best in everybody in his class. Your grade is based on 3 things: attendance, quiz grades, and papers that you will write in place of actual tests. SUCH a good class.

Dr. Pearce is the best teacher at Black Hawk. He is prompt when you email him, and will always answer your questions. The only test is the final, and that is optional. He has all the notes online, but they are a bullet-ed list form. This really allowed me to listen to what he was saying and put it in my own words. Debates and papers were easy.

If I were able to take any other of Dr. Pearce's classes, I definitely would! Dr. Pearce's teaching techniques make it impossible not to learn. Most of the class's evaluation is through reports and (at home) quizzes over reading assignments. He gives you a down-to-earth prospection on how things actually work.

The best online class I have ever taken. It was a steady course load and I learned a lot about forming arguments and global issues. I wish I could have taken him in class. He is very active online and helps critique your work without belittling you. A very smart guy with a great sense of humor. You will need to buy the textbook.

Great online class! This professor is clear on his expectations and is consistent in grading from week to week. This was the most engaged professor that I have encountered in an on-line course. At first, I thought that I would not enjoy this class because it really hits you in the face the first day. Everything you were taught will be challenged, but if you stick with the class, you'll see that it becomes more clear. Worth it. Would take again. Prepare to know your stuff because you have to debate. Learn how to take good notes!!

I have to say, Pearce was one of the best teachers I have ever had. He made the information fun to learn, and taught it the right way! Most classes I take, by the end of the semester you have about half the amount of students that the class started with, but I don't think a single student dropped is class. Even the papers we had to write were fun!

Professor Pearce is a great teacher! A lot of his views don't really align with mine but it didn't matter because he does such a good job. Funny lecturer, and rewards students who do their work. He tells you stuff you may not want to hear but need to hear. Also leaves detailed comments on each paper which show he really cares. Take his class!

Awesome at his job. He is great for first-time online students. He was very clear about criteria and was more active than a student in discussions. The discussion questions were very thought provoking. I liked the textbook, I bought the past 1877 version just to read.

He is one of the best professors that I have had at BHC. Expectations for the class are clearly given in the syllabus at the beginning of the semester, and throughout the class. Seriously one of the most inspirational professors I've ever had. He is the reason why I am a political science major. Had him for POLS 122 as well as IS 220. Every lecture he gave in 122 inspired me. In IS 220, he always gave me great feedback on what I did right or wrong. I got A's in both of the courses I took with him. DEFINITELY recommended.

Pearce is highly knowledgeable about poly-sci, and is obviously passionate about what he teaches (and it shows in his lectures). Attendance is part of the grade, but he'll work with you if something comes up and you work hard in his class. Most assignments are essays, but they aren't hard. Loved his class, would totally take another with him.

I took his class online this semester and it has been the BEST class I have taken at BHC! Prof. Pearce is very clear with instructions on readings, quizzes, and daily discussions (Daily 4 times a week.) I need to take Political Science as well and I am debating to take it next semester or saving it for my last semester! (best for last)

Professor Pearce is SO sweet! Im so sad I never got to meet him since I had him for online, but his comments on my assignments were always so nice. My friends that had him for in person classes loved him! IS200 is such an easy class & I highly recommend.

His lectures are fun because he is full of personality! Hes extremely nice and I promise he knows what hes talking about. His class consists of quizzes, papers and discussions. The quizzes you can do well on if you read the chapters. The papers are easy if you pay attention to his lectures and discussions are about the papers you wrote.

I would take this class again in a heartbeat. Dr. Pearce is easily one of the best professors I've had at Black Hawk. For this course specifically, he will make sure all of your efforts are noticed by giving good feedback on discussion boards and calling you out during lectures. Lots of reading, but worth it to understand the material.

I loved Professor Pearce for global issues. He always helped me understand what needed to be added to my posts, and was more than willing to help me out if I missed a due date. Participation is mandatory however, and discussion board assignments need to be done well to get a decent grade. Easy work though!

I absolutely loved Pearce for Political Thought. The class is lecture based and all assignments are discussion posts. As long as you're willing to put in a little effort you'll do great.

I loved this professor. Dr. Pearce was a great professor, although sometimes his lectures did get a bit confusing. He was really funny and used LOTS of examples. You have to show up to class to understand what is happening, especially because he uses lots of examples. Sometimes group work. Occasional pop quizzes, but he made me like going to gov.

I am so over the moon with Jay Pearce. He loves the subject and it shows. Jay is extremely straight forward and consistent in his grading and requirements. If you're lazy and don't like to write, this is not the class for you. Just follow the directions and turn in your work on time, and you're golden. I am excited for my next class with him!
