Took him as an elective for Public Health 110. He's hillarious, and really easy too. "Lateness is a good thing." Ha! His style is different, and he makes you enjoy going to an 8:40 class. No papers too. :)

Dr. Segal is the best professort I have ever had in my college experience. He is extremely fair and hot....If you work you will get a B+ or higher. Its great to laugh and have fun when you are learning. He is brilliant.
agree with above comments
Without a doubt one of the best professors I have ever had!! He made a 3 hour night class seem to go by in an hour. ABO****ELY FANTASTIC! TAKE HIM- he is so funny and down to earth...that it makes you really want to go to class! He is what a teacher should be!
jay is hilarious. if you're considering taking him you definitely should. he's an awesome teacher and the class is an easy A-.
This man is a comedian. He does make a 3 hour night class feel like an hour. It's an easy A/B if you go to class and get the information handed out. For tests he practically gave us the answer sheet because he would give us a great study sheet. There were NO PAPERS!!! And we got extra credit for bringing in a pic of your family pet. How cool?!?
Funny as Hell, Hilarious, easy going, easy to talk to. Noy always very clear but extremely fun classes and did i mention how easy Jay is?
Dr. Segal is an easy B but a very tough A. He is truly the funniest guy I have ever met. He treats students with respect and is super smart about so many topics. He needs his own TV show.."Everybody loves Dr. Jay"
the ****ing, man!
Very interesting class and a great teacher. He's hilarious and down to earth. As long as you do the readings and pay attention in class you'll do fine. He makes an 8:40 class worth coming and he shows that he cares about his students by noticing if you're absent and what not. Take his class if you get the chance, you won't be disappointed!
Great teacher! Hysterical! Never dreaded going to class early in the morning. Little vague sometimes, but a great teacher and extremely helpful. Always graded fairly too! Nothing was too hard!
this professor was the most interesting of my life. He is so smart and funny. He really needs to do standup...he has held my interest for three hour classes the entire semester.
Look...Dr. Jay is the best professor I have ever had. He really cares about the students and is so funny that you forget you are learning. I never was bored. Take any of his classes. He will make you want to come to class. He is also pretty hot for a middle age guy.
Funniest guy you will ever meet
Dr. Segal's class was a major waste of time. He didn't do much teaching and told his students to google whatever information he did not provide. Instead of trying so hard to be the 'cool' prof that the students like, maybe he should put some of that effort into actually teaching them.
Look...here is the deal Dr. J is the best professor I ever had. He is very smart, funny, and makes every class worthwhile. He need his own tv spot...real funny...lol funny
He made class so much fun. I didn't miss a class this whole semester cause he makes you want to be there. this class is easy if you know the stuff on the study sheets he gives you
He's amazing! GO TO CLASS. He's one of the reasons college is worth it.
This guy is REALLY not that funny. He is a nice guy but personally I found it annoying that he would go on these random 'comedic' tangents so often instead of teaching. It made getting up for the 8:40 feel like such a waste.
Dr. Segal was an awesome teacher and an all around good guy. Very fair
I found this class a waste of my time and money. Dr. Segal is a good person and funny, but very little of the time was spent actually discussing the material, so very little was accomplished. I enrolled in the class to learn counseling techniques, but I honestly learned nothing the whole semester. I think he's bored. I was too.
I took his online course for a stress workshop and it was amazing. The work was light and easy. He posted so many podcasts and videos so that you could get al lthe info down. my test scores we btw 60-80 but i managed an A- for the semester because theres not alot of weight on the test. TAKE HIM! I LOVED THIS CLASS
He is a great teacher and really cares about his students as long as you put in the work. I took the online summer class - stress management. It was a great class I learned a lotttt and it wasn't that hard to get a good grade.
Definately the smartest and most accomplished professor I've had in four years. Knows everything about every subject he teaches and has probably wrote a book about it. He is a fair grader. Personality wise.. he can be funny and can be very insightful.. however he is very cocky and arrogant.. Overall he's worth taking.
segal doesnt do any teaching at all. I had him for couseling techniques and didnt learn anything at all. he gives you a review sheet and says good luck
If you want to learn something, take a different professor. He spends every class telling far-fetched stories about his life, and then tests you on things he's never talked about. It's a pretty easy grade, but you won't learn a thing. I don't know how he still has a job teaching.
Had him for public health and this class, human sexuality. He's even better teaching sexuality. He couldn't make it any more entertaining than he did. Tests are impossible, so don't study. He curves, but doesnt admit it. Go to class and do your best and your guarnteed a B. Don't buy the book.
Dr. Segal and his TA Gabby Mora are the best, they always responded to my emails, they were clear of what they expected of you. I have taken this class online and would love to take another class with him on campus. The exams were kind of hard, but long as you put effort into the class and complete the other assignments you will be just fine!!!!!!!
dr. segal wants participation but prepare to have your opinion blown to smitthereens by his doctoral research. in comparison to his personal life there is hardly no time spent on actual class material. i learned the most from fact sheets presented by class mates than dr. segal. he's a cool person, but not too much teaching on human sexuality....
Dr. Segal Stress and Change class is good, I got a lot out of it. The readings were great, but that's about it. The exams are almost impossible. The packet he put together for the class is of very poor quality and it costs so much because you're paying to take his stress test - what lame profiteering! Stay in touch with him and you'll get a 'B'.
AWESOME! Knows what he is talking about and is very helpful. Take any class he teaches and you'll do well as long as you make a clear effort, that is what he seems to care about most. Has a unique sense of humor and opinions and isnt afraid to share them, sensitive people beware he may come off a little offensive at times
My favorite professor so far! He is very entertaining and you will never be bored in class. I looked forward to going to class. The discussion were great, As long as you study you will do fine on the tests. You do need to put the effort in though not an easy A but not impossible
Pretty easy teacher, teaches you a lot for the first exam and the other two your on your own. He doesn't care about your opinion, he's very rude, when you ask him a question he puts you down.
Jay Segal is the worst professor I have ever taken at Temple University. Do not take Jay Segal as a professor if: -You consider your time to be valuable -You expect to learn in class, as you pay a high cost to be there -You would like a professor that respects your opinion He literally sits in the front of the room and talks about nothing.
I don't even understand how I have been expected to tolerate this sorry excuse for a class. If you wanna pay a few grand to listen to an arrogant man boast about his life, this is the professor for you. I LOVE the textbook he assigned, too bad I know more about his personal life than Human Sexuality.
If you want to never learn anything and hear far fetched stories, Jay is your guy. Have learned close to nothing in his class and the only reason anyone is passing is because of reading the textbook. He gets completely off topic, refuses to teach and just has us ask questions and he will answer them, and he pushes his views of God on us.
I have to say that this was my favorite professor I've ever had... very relatable to students and knows how to make class interesting. I had him for human sexuality and the tests were very straight up correlating with the study guides. I would definitely recommend him to anyone!
Contemporary Health Issues was the first online class I had taken so I was a bit confused on how it worked. The requirements for the course were to have finished 4 units and the exams by their due dates. I wish I had finished all 4 units at once instead of doing them last minute. You'll need to go over all the material to get an A. He curves.
By far THE BEST BEST professor at Temple i have taken in the last 4 years! You have to study for the exams because they are hard but he is the type of professor that will work with you no matter what because he wants you to do good. If you have the opportunity to take one of his classes DO IT! I never write reviews but i felt like i needed to
Dr. Segal at first may seem very nice, but the course is highly disorganized. If the material was organized then it would be much better since an individual could study for things that were missing from study guides, but were on the tests. The class isn't bad, but you really have to spend hours and hours studying. I would stay away if possible.
Tests are extremely difficult even when you study and prepare. He words the questions in a way that makes you second guess yourself. Don't take!
Best professor I've had at Temple. Took Human Sexuality & Stress Workshop online. Understanding and flexible with due dates, emergencies, etc. He's the type of person who is there to help and the layout of the class is very straight forward. Lectures are more like discussions making the class more interesting and comfortable.
Professor Segal is the worst professor I've had at temple thus far. His online exams are difficult for absolutely no reason and his "Course Material Packet" contradicts itself and other resources frequently. This class completely ruined my GPA all because of his unorganized mess of a class. Worst professor.
Dr. Segal is a pretty raw cut guy. If you're extremely proper and easily offended, don't take him. I thought he was pretty funny, but this class is meant to open your eyes to human sexuality! Very informative-would take again. *also had him for an online contemp. health issues- tests are tough but lots of time to finish everything!
Literally awful. cut all of the class work except 4 exams, which he never actually lectures on. be prepared to teach yourself everything and still not know what's going on. very condescending towards students and doesn't even let students finish their thoughts half of the time. all of this material is from the 80s and 90s so it's not even accurate
Dr Segal is a great professor. All exams are directly from the PowerPoint notes posted online. Participate and he will definitely bump you up a grade at the end. Understanding, a bit unorganized, flexible, funny, and straightforward.
The Best Professor at Temple! Makes class super enjoyable. He's hilarious
Being a student in his online Human Sexuality class, I found the experience to be okay. Personally, online classes are not my thing. Without the right amount of self discipline and control, they can get difficult. All grades came from 4 exams and discussion boards. Exams get tricky but he does curve your grade at the end!
Jay is GREAT, if you have to option to take him , definitely do so. He loves his job and understands that we have other classes to tend to.
I took Prof Segal for an online Human Sexuality class. The class had 4 exams, each with video lectures and reading; you could work at your own pace as long as you submitted the exam by the due date. You have to read the book and listen to lectures if you want to pass the exams though. As long as you do the minimum, this class is an easy A
Great teacher. Definitely take if you have the chance to. Wants everyone to do well.
Worst professor. My friend took same class last year with only 15 question per exam. He had 50!! In 70 minutes.
Awful professor. For someone who's a doctor this man can't proof-read his own materials and tests, doesn't know how to use canvas, and uses a textbook and stats that are 10 years old then expects you to find the correct current information. Took this as an easy online elective and I strongly regretted it.
Gives you 60 minutes for 55 freakin minutes!! The worst professor ever!!!
His lectures are more of him giving life lessons rather than actually teaching. He is amazing at what he does and I wish I could take him again. Easy A. All the exams are self-explanatory.
Horrible! I took the Human Sexuality online. The instructor did very little to no teaching at all. He uploaded an old video lecture out dated PowerPoint slide to cover Exams. The Exams are 70 mins for 60 questions. I hated the class and would not recommend this class to anyone.
Jay Segal is a great professor. I had him for my first semester of my freshman year for a night class once per week and absolutely loved him. Do not worry about your grade too much, read the book (which he puts online), do the study sheet, and go do his "not" extra-credit assignments.
this class was very reasonable for online. You can kinda go at your own pace. The work is a little confusing with older PPTs and videos but if you fill out the study sheets youll do well. Hes very very helpful and if you email with any questions or concerns hes happy to see that you care about the class and he shows that in your grade
3 exams, 1 final exam, & 8 discussion posts. You can work ahead, but all exams and discussions have due dates, though he usually will extend them for you if you ask. He curves the exams, and i'm pretty sure discussions are graded by completion. I found many exam answers online. Exams are timed. Segal is very disorganized. LIVE BY STUDY SHEETS.
He is very disorganized and his powerpoints are a mess. Clearly he is very smart but he does not know how to make exams or use technology at all. He seems like a nice person and is very accommodating but the lack of instructions on projects and disorganized powerpoints makes this course unnecessarily hard.
This is the second online class I've taken with Prof Segal. The grading criteria is very clear, there's 4 exams and 8 discussions with lenient due dates. He posts the readings from the textbook for the course himself, so don't buy it. Do the study sheets, because the exam q's will be exact replicas, and he curves grades at the end to help you out.
Love Jay! He is so funny and I had him for 5:30-8pm and he made it really worth it! The group project is pretty fun and overall he is understanding and just wants the students to show up. I recommend taking him. He also gives a study guide for exams that you answer on your own with the textbook and those are the questions on the exam
Prof Segal is the best. I took him for Health Psych last semester and I'd take him again in a heartbeat. Lectures aren't mandatory, but he pays attention to who's there and he takes that into consideration when grading. He goes off on tangents a lot and most of his lectures are just personal stories. Read his powerpoints & you'll ace exams.
I took Dr. Segal for Health Psychology this semester and he was the best professor I had. You could tell he truly cared about his students, in and outside of class. He was flexible with extensions and the exams are super easy. This class was interesting and an easy A. If I could take another class with Dr. Segal I would.
Dr. Jay is a nice & caring professor. I took the fully online section of Health Psych, & you could tell that he wanted to make sure his students had every ounce of support even in the midst of a global pandemic. Some exams are on quizlet and he adds points to grades if you do badly. Gave me an A- even though I finished with an 87. Take him :)
Professor Segal was one of the best professor I've had. Professor Segal cares so much about his students and wants to best for each student. The workload was manageable and the assignments were very clear.
Professor Segal was very nice, and was always willing to help out if you ever had any questions. He offers extensions on tests, and gave out extra credit as well. There are discussion posts, but the tests got harder as the semester progressed. Overall, amazing class I recommend taking him!
Great professor. I enjoyed this class a lot. Professor Segal is very kind and understanding and will help you to do well in this class. The content is very interesting and engaging to understand.
Jay is super awesome and nice. this class was entirely asynchronous. Each module had a test and a deadline but they were all relatively easy to navigate. It is a fair amount of reading but a lot of the material is common sense. He's also super forgiving, lenient, and accessible if you have questions.
As long as you read the texts, listen to his lectures, and fill out the study guide you will do well. You just have to put in the effort to learn and it will be an easy A. -- Dr Segal was an amazing professor who truly cares about his students' learning. He always responded to my emails in a helpful and timely matter.
Don't take this class. He talks too much, wastes nearly half the class time just to reiterate his opinions and still fails to make a single point! His exams make no sense because they're poorly worded. My friend and I had different multiple choice options for the same question; just ridiculous. Him in a nutshell: lazy, boring, and incompetent.
It was very lecture heavy, there were so many videos and ted talks, and reading textbook chapters, but honestly the class is passable if you spend a little time studying before each test. Tests had short time limit though so beware that. Didn't do much work and gonna pass with a B so it really depends on how much you're willing to put in
He seem like a cool guy, and a very honest Professor. He is very straightforward about what he expected from the Students in the Lecture. He is respectful toward people who also show him the respect back.
I took 3 classes with Professor Segal. His tests are very long and he makes you second guess every question sometimes but. He boosts up exams, watch his lecture videos and study his powerpoints and material and guarantee you will pass his class. His classes are not hard at all as long as you put some effort into his assignments and exams.
this class is asynchronous and we had to watch lecture videos and read his fact sheets. there is a total of 4 exams and each exam has about 75-80 questions and he gives us about 70 mins to complete it. The material isn't difficult but he is a bit organized with canvas.
I had health psychology completely online. He has all the material published all at once so, you can work ahead if you want to. As long as you read, watch the lectures and complete the material, you will pass the class at ease. He also bumps the test grades up and overall grade at end. This course consisted of 9 discussion posts and 4 exams.
I took this asynchronously. Best choice I could make. This course is at your own pace asynchronously and can be completed as quickly as you'd like. You can take off some weeks from the material if you plan right. Exams were the same as the study guides, and all the material was accessible online for exams. He was very quick to respond in email.
Professor Segal is a little unorganized, I took his class asynchronous and his syllabus was out of date. But overall this was an easy A. You work at your own pace the only you have to do are Exams (4) and Discussion Post (9). All exams are opened book/notes , COMPLETE THE STUDY GUIDES !!! And have it opened during the exams you wont regret it !!!!
this class was easier cuz it's online, provides study guides, has 4 massive tests but the info is online. He wants you to go through hours and hours of dull lectures but you can watch at a faster speed. he also tests on his own ideologies and he uses stigmatizing outdated terms, weird for a public health professor. very kind, passionate, accessible
Dr. Segal is a great professor! He genuinely cares about his students and their education. This course runs smooth if you keep up with your work which is fair!
Dr. Segal was great. He talks a lot but he's a great guy. His class is easy to follow, and you'll get a good grade if you keep up with your work.
Honestly Professor Segal is great in my opinion. He really cares and wants to see his students do well. The tests aren't crazy but they are a little tedious. He does provide a lot of info but since the class is online, it's easy to access during tests and useful in the discussion posts
please take prof segal if you have the chance!!!! he is by far the best prof i have ever had. the exams are very easy, all open note. he provided course reserves for us which i really appreciated because i did not want to pay for the textbook. he is so nice and truly cares about his students succeeding. overall great guy and class!!
Dr.Segal is a good professor. He cares a lot about each of his students. Class has interesting topics. Not necessary to look over everything in the modules. Just show up to class (you don't have to pay attention) and fill out the study guides. One big group project at end of semester. He is clear with expectations for assignments and grades fairly.
Professor Segal was amazing! He was lenient w/ my heavy course load & allowed me to take a few exams later than the due date. Attending lectures is NOT mandatory to get a good grade in the class but honestly, your grade will RAISE if you do attend and participate (he takes attendance). Dr. Segal also has an amazing classroom environment!!!!
Segal is by far the worst educator I have ever met. He uses his own outdated, nonsensical work as "sources" for his unhinged opinions, laughs about treating his wife in a way that could easily be described as physically and emotionally abusive, and is overall just wildly inappropriate. An embarrassment to the program.
He was a really nice guy and the lectures were interesting! The tests were pretty easy, but each one had a few questions that just made no sense (ex. asking about "blood type 11"). He gave out random extra credit points just because and overall made the class a very pleasant experience.
Professor Segal was incredibly disorganized, both in his lectures and our class Canvas page. He made multiple insensitive comments during lecture, in addition to repeatedly calling on students when they made it clear they did not know the answers to his question. Expectations for class were unclear and not upheld consistently. Take any other prof.
The class was highly disorganized and there were typos of the exam. It seems like he reuses old modules on canvas then put new directions on top of the outdates ones. Professor Segal will answer your emails occasionally and he does offer extra credit sometimes. He also tests on his ideologies on exams which is weird
One of the most low effort professors I've ever seen. Uses lecture material from other classes just to fill space. This course was a waste of money
This class was fairly easy because he curved exams and provided study guides, but at times questions on the exams wouldn't be addressed in the video lectures/modules or study guides. There were also many typos on the exams. Overall, this class can be frustrating but it's easy to get a good grade.
The lectures weren't overwhelming. They were interesting, and he is clearly knowledgable in the field. He gives extra credit while gently begging you to fill out the SFFs. Some of his test questions have typos to the point that you can't understand them. Overall, a pretty easy and manageable class.
Passionate about his students and teaching. Does his best to keep students interactive. Doesn't take attendance but notes if you don't come, and allows you to be late. Exams are straightforward with the coursework and exam outlines.
I really did not like Dr. Segal. The first two exams were fine but you HAVE TO DO the readings which seems like a lot but it's worth it in the end. The last exam was so bad I somehow got an 86. I feel like he just makes up random information and what he believes is correct. He also calls people out for random things and thinks he's funny for it.
I loved Dr. Segal! He was very understanding, funny, flexible, inspirational, and didn't give much work to do. Class consisted of 3-4 exams and a fact sheet project. Although you can find the textbook online, you don't need to buy it since he provides photocopies of required readings instead of paying for the whole book.
Dr. Segal is so unorganized on the stress workshop course. Literally has so many typos on the exams and discussion post assignments that it becomes to confusing. He literally makes his own textbook by taking pages from random readings and his own ideas and compiling it into a mess of a pdf file. discussion posts and exam. Don't recommend
I took the class as a elective because the review for the professor seems good but that was not the case for me. This class is MESSY, like I'm talking about grammar problems on every assignment that its hard to understand what he even wants from you. He is generous and gives extra credit but just a frustrating class with how canvas is set up.
One of the most disorganized professors I have ever had, the same assignments would have different due dates listed on the syllabus vs announcements. There are 4 exams which are worth 20% of your grade EACH. If your very self-disciplined and good with asynchronous classes you should be ok but it still sucked.
No because what even was this class...the class textbook is just a pdf file of random pages taken from other books and put together like what. I was so confused throughout the course because is was just that unorganized. Other than that, nice guy whats you to do the SFF lol
Professor Segal brings a unique flair to the classroom. While his teaching style can be unconventional at times, the lectures are engaging. Utilize Unstuckstudy and the free textbook to ace the exams. Overall, a manageable and enjoyable class.
Dr.J is a great and caring professfor. All you guys have to do is come to class (he takes attendance), engage in class and read. The exams are super easy to follow if you pay attention in class. There is a fact sheet presentation, you can work alone or with a partner. It was very straight forward and easy to do! and like he says LATE IS GOOD!
I love Jay!! He's had got to be the only professors that actually care about his students
