As the chemistry teachers at SDSU go, he is one of the best. You can get an A if you give an honest effort. Lecture is fairly good.

Doesn't take forever to explain something like Miller. Tells you the way it is and works but not always why. He talks to you at your level and not down to you or over you head.

The actual going to class part doesnt do much for you, DO THE WORKSHEETS AND GO TO THE REVIEWS! But of course, if you don't go to class the reviews and worksheets still don't make sense. THE CLASS IS VERY HARD! Print off the lecture notes and DON'T BUY THE BOOK its pointless!

Very boring, repetative, and horrible sense of humor. But if are one of the lucky few who can stay awake in Rotunda D you might be able to pass...good luck.

If you do the practice exams and study there is no reason to not get an "A". Watch out for the finals, he'll bring up information that you had no idea you needed to know...the practice exam for the finals isn't an accurate representation of what will be on the final.

He was a good teacher. Hard. Everything you need to know is on the worksheets and quizzes. Dont really need your book. Just make a really good note card with the info from the Wksts on it and you will get an A or B. Math is key. Lots of I or II or III questions on theories as well. Enjoy!

Do the worksheets, the test questions are basically straight off them. You don't need a book. He is very easy to talk to so if you have a question, ask.

Great professor for those who have an interest in chemistry. Those who don't tend to whine about his classes being too hard because they don't enjoy learning chemistry concepts, in which case they should take Chem. Survey, not 112- 114. For those who have an interest in chemistry, you will learn & understand it much better by taking his class.

Dr. Shore actually makes the class easier than it should be! Coming from a community college, I had to withdraw from this course because it was confusing, too time-consuming, and we had to do everything by hand. After taking it with him, everything was so much easier to understand. And yes, he cares about the students who actually there to learn.

Dr shore is the man, the only reason you should get anything less than an A is becuase you didnt follow any of the lectures. The guys a genius and can explain any question. You just have to follow along so he can answer your questions that arise.

This professor has to deal with huge classes, mostly freshman. The university has this as a weed out class for most majors. As a result there are a ton of drop outs and failures, completely out of his control. He's brilliant, and if you show up and pay attention, he makes the material understandable. He's also a great guy, and loves to help.

I've never seen a person that can teach better then my big pal Jay. This guy is the bomb. He has a way of keeping the entire class focused through the whole class. Excellent Instructor. Highly Recamended

Dr. Shore is a great proffesor if you give him the chance to teach you. To many students enter this class with a rebel attitude because of former students who didn't care about the class anyway.

If you pay attention and go to class you will pass. He may ask you to make an effort and study a little more, but he is willing to answer any question you have. He is a great professor if you give him a chance. Also, he has a rockin' body.

Shore breaks down chemistry into the most simple concepts you can make it. If you go to class and do the worksheets and get the old tests you're pretty much guarenteed an A

Excellent Professor! Loves answering questions, so ask lots of them! Follow along with the notes, and add in things he says during lecture and you'll be set! In no way is this a weed out course, it's too easy to succeed. Perhaps those who think it's a weed out course really aren't as smart as they thought. Just do the work and understand it!

Jay shore is the second best chem teacher I've ever had. He's a genius and seems like he should be doing something far more prestigious than teaching. If you can do worksheets, you can pass his class.

Jay Shore is not much to look at, but he definitely knows his stuff. You don't really have to go to class much since he posts his lectures online. Plus, he does sessions for every worksheet and he provides practice tests online. He was overall a very good professor. I think many students in the class were used to Easy A's and Jay Shore makes you work for them.

Shore is super smart. He is hard to understand sometimes but if you stick with it you will understand. Go to the tutors and get the past tests and those help a lot when studying.

Being a senior, I hear students complain about Shore, like when I took the class. Most freshmen do not like him because the class is not like high school; you have to study for a good grade. If you can't pass you need to change study habits or college isn't for you. It might sound harsh but it's true. If you put in the work, you will pass CHEM112.

There is no denying that chem 112 is a difficult class. However with good study habits and utilization of all the resources you are given (office hours,SI,and tutoring) it is possible to achieve a passing grade. Despite what people may say Dr.Shore is helpful especially during office hours and is always willing to answer questions.

I took chem 112 and chem 114 with the magical jay shore and got A's. go to class yo, and you will be fine. Stop complaining about having to study it's college and the people that are too lazy to study should probs not be in a major that requires you to take these courses. Easiest engineering requirement so buckle up.

He is nice and clear which can be rare. Don't buy a textbook he is considerate and tries to help but is bad at explaining. Just don't think too hard and make a good notecard with the true and false from the worksheets and look at old tests to find out what kind of problems are on the test and prepare your notecard for them. With that it's an easy A

Passed the course. It is not hard if you study. Teacher is hard to talk to and does not explain in full detail. My advise to future students is to use your brain and work work hard because life after school is harder than this course.

He's a great professor who tries his best to help students understand the presented material. Students simply choose not to take advantage of the additional supplemental educative mediums provided by the college. He deserves more credit than most of the class participants who have rated him are publicly proclaiming.

Chem 112 is a difficult class. Shore really does try hard to be the best for the students though, and there are so many help sessions offered on campus that a person can do very well with motivation. The worksheets are essential; they must be done in order to do well on the test. Also, take advantage of Shore's offering to answer questions.

I took both 112 and 114.I would strongly recommend taking notes prior to class-they are online, with dates of lecture. Go to class,SI,and review sessions!You are allowed a notecard for each exam-fill it up!

In my honest opinion, there is absolutely no reason why anybody should get anything less than a B. The best advice I can give to you is to take his practice exams SEVERAL times before the exams because they are so unbelievably similar to the real thing!

Dr. Shore is an excellent teacher. It is really not difficult to get an A in the class if you do the worksheets and practice exams. The practice exams and very similar to the actual tests. Also, make sure to go to class and do the clicker questions. Dr. Shore is very helpful and really wants his students to succeed. DON'T BUY THE BOOK..wont use it!

He is an excellent professor. I had to work hard for my A in his classes, but the worksheets he provides are exactly like the tests. Do those and you will be fine. Didn't use the book at all. If I didn't understand something, he was happy to sit down in his office with me. I also went over my tests with him after and usually got a few points back.

Dr. Shore teaches this class as well as you can to a group of 300+ students. He gives you exactly what you need to do well with his worksheets, practice exams, and answering of questions before every lecture. Always has corny jokes and interesting videos to lighten the class mood. Extremely smart, and he seems willing to help.

The course is tough, but he gives you worksheets and practice tests that have exactly what's on the test to help you. And he's adorable.

Ah,yes, the charming Jay Bird. He truly does care about his student's learning, which is impressive for a class with +300 students. Lectures are bearable with his sly sense of humor and interesting examples. Concepts of class can be difficult, but there is SI sessions and he posts worksheets and practice exams. No excuse to not get an A (only 85%)!

He is very laid back especially compared to some of the other chemistry teachers. His lectures are kind of boring, but they are fairly straight forward. I believe he is a very underrated teacher. His grading scale is reasonable and his tests generally are too. He stops the lectures and gives students time to ask questions instead of rushing through

Dr. Shore is very intelligent, and sometimes he doesn't quite dumb it down enough for the normal freshman. However, all of his power-points can be found online. He also gives two practice tests for each exam which are very helpful.

He provides a lot of resources, including notes, worksheets, and practice tests. The tests are the best way to succeed. If you are willing to put in the effort, this class is very doable, especially with Dr. Shore. He is funny and helpful! He wants you to succeed!

Jay Shore gives you all necessary materials to pass the class. He makes you work for it and does not give any extra credit. Make sure you do the worksheets and the practice quizzes. He writes like he is a 3rd grader, but makes hilarious jokes to keep lecture interesting. All round a pretty nice guy who is very respected by his students.

He gives out awesome (though long) practice exams that show almost exactly what will be on the exams. I had one very poorly taught chemistry class in high school, & I was just fine jumping right in - just do the practice exams & use Wintrode whenever possible. DO NOT NEED THE TEXTBOOK FOR HIS LECTURE!!

clicker questions count for points so you need to show up to class, lecture slides are posted to help outside of class, he encourages questions, it will be work to get a good grade if you don't have good chem background, he posts worksheets that aren't due but are very good practice, he posts practice exams with answers that are really helpful

I took Chem 112 with Shore. The class was pretty easy, and the only homework was optional packets that I would recommend doing. Tests can be a little difficult because he tries to trick you on some questions but as long as you know the material youll be fine.

The text book for this class is not mandatory, he even tells you not to buy it. He posts video lectures that you can watch before coming to class. He also has worksheets for every chapter and practice exams. There are clicker questions almost every lecture so it is important to attend class so that you dont miss those points. Tests arent too bad.

Jay Shore is a very simple teacher. He teaches you material and that is what on the test. There are no trick questions or "best answer possible" questions on his tests which I really enjoyed. It is a very straight forward class and easy if you put in the work.

Within this class, Jay Shore provides worksheets to help understand the material. Before every test, Shore also provides pre-tests to help his students study.

I absolutely loved Chem 112 with Dr. Shore. He gives his students so many resources to do well and he posts all his lectures online in case you need to go back to understand something better. The worksheets are extremely helpful and his practice exams are practically identical to the tests. If you attend lecture and put in the work you'll be fine.

Dr. Shore offers many resources for his students to do well in his class. He has practice exams with answers and explanations on D2L for every exam. He also has video lectures posted and the homework (not mandatory) has explanations for every answer. There are no surprises and doing well in his class is up to how much work you put in.

Dr. Shore has all of the lectures on D2L as well as worksheets and practice tests. Everything you need to know is layer out for you there and lectures consist almost exclusively of practice questions. Don't let the first lecture scare you. As he says in every lecture, "There are plenty of resources available to you. We want you to succeed."

I am taking Dr. Shore's class in the heat of COVID-19 and he has done an excellent job transitioning his class to online. Dr. Shore has created video lectures (10-20 min) that he expects you to watch before each lecture. They are easy to understand and pack with info. He thoroughly explains everything during online lecture and he is a great guy.

Dr. Shore is a great dude. If you don't actively try to get help when you need it then f course you are going to fail. He is very interactive in big lectures (if you are on zoom). He tries to engage with the class. 10/10 would take his class again.

Before every lecture I like to watch the lecture video and do the practice lecture worksheet pages so I am prepared for the turning point questions during actual lecture. Then after lecture I did the graded lecture assignments. Tests are easy, very similar to the practice exams he gives you to study from. Easy A.

Dr. Shore is the perfect professor for this class. He has adapted very well to the online classroom style and has adapted his teaching style to best help students learn. If you pay attention and take notes during the lectures, you don't need to complete the optional worksheets to pass. I'm not a fan of the chemistry, but Dr. Shore is a great prof.

Yes you do actually have to watch the lecture videos and pay attention in class which is a given. it is not hard to get an A or B in this class. If you get a D or F it was 100% the student not the professor.

When class first started I did not like Dr. Shore. However, after I adapted to his teaching style, I began to understand the content much better. I have also grown to like watching notes before each class, then going back over those notes (briefly) in class and then doing clicker questions. Don't skip class. Kind of a funny guy too!

Great, personable professor who cares abt his students. Switched to regular chem after taking honors chem112, was a great choice. Textbook is free. Clicker questions in class then a quick homework assignment after every class. Retained a lot of info and felt successful. Somehow enjoyed coming to 8AM class. Tests super similar to practice exams.

Jay's class is pretty straightforward and he gives you lots of opportunities to learn the material. If you watch the lecture video, take notes, and do the practice exams (plus optional homework packet, but I didn't do it) you should get an easy A/B.Downside is sometimes we don't learn what's on homework/clicker ?s but the exams dont have surprises.

Chem 114 is more difficult than his 112 courses; however, Dr. Shore still teaches the same way.

I took both Chem 112 and 114 with him and both courses are taught in the same format. Sometimes there are clicker questions or quiz questions on things we never were taught how to do. But, exams are practically identical to questions on the practice exams just with numbers or words changed. Overall, he is a nice guy and a good professor.

Daddy Shore is the best, I hardly passed because I never attended class or did lecture quizzes (instantly tossing 20% of the total grade) so I just crammed the night before each test. But really, he's dope.

Shore is the best. Go to lectures and participate and you will do just fine. He does a great job preparing us for test and gave us so many practice problems. He's such a wholesome guy, and really cares about his student's success.

I absolutely hate chemistry but Shore does a good job of fully explaining everything. There are video lectures that you watch before each lecture and make sure you actually watch them and take notes.

Dr. Shore is a very helpful teacher and provides whatever he can to help student succeed. His class is structured very well and stays consistent throughout the whole semester.

As long as you watch the lecture videos and do the homework, you will do just fine. The practice exams are essential and cover most, if not all, of the exam content. The exam questions are very similar to those on the practice exams and homework; they all come from the same question bank, so you can know what to expect.

Jay Shore is a wonder amongst professors. You get out what you put in. He may seem intimidating but he is not. He's very approachable and fun. I lowkey learned a lot from his class. Try not to use google because it'll effect how well you do on tests. But this man is the rebirth of jesus fr. Love him.

Dr. Shore is the greatest. I have never seen him smile but he is hilarious, but he also tells you how it is. As long as you put in sufficient effort, you will get an A. He has provided a few Instagram captions for me including one I will always remember, "Diligence is more important than intelligence."

Exams are worth a lot, but if you go through the practice exams he gives out, you'll be fine, He starts out heavy the first two weeks to "weed out" the not-serious students, but if you get through it, it's good. Professor Shore's CHEM112 class can be tough, but put in the effort and you'll be rewarded. The lectures are engaging, and using resources like SI, tutoring, and unstuck AI for study prep makes it manageable. If you stay on top of the work, you'll do well.

Dr. Shore is an amazing professor. The class will start off very hard with quantum mechanics, but it will only get easier from there. The class is reverse lecture style, so you watch the lecture before going to class. The exams are very easy to study for, do the worksheets and practice exams and you will do amazing! He is also really funny.

He gives plenty of materials for you to succeed. There are pre-lecture videos with questions, questions during class, and post-lecture assignments that all help you understand the content. Most of these questions also end up on your exams. He gives plenty of time in class to ask questions if people are confused.
