Thre best proffesor at John Jay! Knows what he is talking about. Explains everything and is very reasonable. Take his class are you are going miss an excellent chance to get an A and actually enjoy class.

He is one of the BEST proffessors I ever had at John jay..He is not a hard teacher, but you do have to do your work. He doesn't really give you much work anyways. I recommend him, and whoever has him will pass.

This prof. is very nice. Very helpful. He's funny which keeps the class going. Respects students. Short daily journals and some sample tests and a portfolio, so save all your work! You will definately pass the ACT after taking his class. I recommend him!

He is so far the best teacher I had in my college experience. He is really funny, makes the class interestin and you do not get boerd or sleepy. U have to do all the work he gives you, if you are handing in a paper late let him know he is understandable. EXCELLENT Teacher!

My cousin recommended him to me, thank God that she did. He's a great professor, very laid back, and down to Earth. He doesn't ask much from his students but you'll find yourself wanting to do all the work and the extra credit, just to give him your all. Prof. Walitalo is also extremely hot so that gives you an extra reason to take his class!

If you want an easy A then choose him! He's a great teacher all you do is write about 20 journal entries of 300 words Or more the semester and an easy final and midterm and about 2 major essays and 1 research paper! He is very interesting and you won't get bored in his class! He's very lienient on grading and gives you extra time if you need it.... 100% RECOMMENDED!!! I got an easy A!

take this class. seriously, easy A . you have to do like 15 journal entries and 2 papers. final and midterm dont count if you fail. NOTHING HURTS YOUR GRADE, EVERYTHING INCREASES YOUR GRADE. he takes attendance at the beginning of the class which is annoying.

Professor Walitalo is really easy to talk to. He shows a genuine interest in something if his students are as equally interested. The only problem I had with his class was he takes his attendance wayy to early but that actually helped me be on time to his wonderful class.

Very laid back kinda guy, easy to talk to and never missed a day of class. No final just a few papers to write and journals in between.

He is really Amazing. He gives 3 paper 1st paper is 2 pages 2nd is 4 and the last is 1 page and journals. VEry Easy just go to the writing the center, participate, come on time and you will get a A or a A-.

He's a great professor. He's very laid back and easy going. We watched 5 films last semester and I loved all 5 of them. His papers are very simple and he requires a few journal entries, but they're manageable. I highly recommend taking him.

Professor. Jay is a really easy going professor. He understands students and does not give too much work. He cares about attendance and students' behaviors in class. He is a good professor plus a good looking man.

He's awesome. Rather than spending time on unnecessary things he cuts to the cold, simple chase + importance of issues - which i really liked. For a 101 English/writing course, you really can't ask for any better.... wataproff!!

One of the greatest professors at John Jay. He MUST be taken by anyone who needs ENG 101. He explains the material very clearly, makes it interesting and he makes you want to do better in class. He is just perfect, there are no more words needed.

Easygoing professor, explains the material VERY clearly, and gives chances to really boost your grade. Midterm and Final are essays that are optional, but if you take it your grade gets bumped up to the next letter. Attendance is mandatory and he's very good looking! ;D

Jay is a great professor! The class was super easy and he's very chill and laid back. He gave probably about two papers which was very easy and the last one included some research, but it was a piece of cake. Easy A! BUT you must buy/rent the textbook because will need to write journals which are about a paragraph. Hardly any work in his class.

Amazing class. Once a week, 3 hours long. Watched a movie every week. Write 500 word synopsis for each movie, had 2 papers and 1 final (a matching of 10 words, it was ridiculous). Watched Se7en, Zombieland. The Thing, Frankenstein, Frankenstein's Wife, Psycho, Repulsion, The Shining, etc etc. Great movies you either have seen, or wanted to.

Professor Walitalo was probably the best professor I've had at John Jay. His lectures are never boring and you also get to watch two movies in his class. Make sure you definitely do your journals and do good on the essays he gives you and you will be fine in his class. Definitely a professor you'd want to have.

Good professor overall. If you have him in the morning you will fall asleep, he has a very mundane voice and not very exciting lectures. Not hard class at all if are a half decent writer. just do the work and he will be generous.

His grading system is really fair. didnt do too much work but the journals are a killer( u gotta respond to readings). stay up-to-date with them and you'll be fine. gotta go to class at least 78 classes of the month. helpful tips in writing. Usually took attendance at the beginning of every class - ANNOYING -_- but great guy, really friendly.

This professor was clear on what he expected and the amount of work given was not unfair. The writing assignments were short (250 word) journal responses to essays from the textbook and averaging 2 a week. The textbook had some interesting reads and I actually enjoyed it. Research paper, midterm, and final given. Class participation encouraged.

Cool and calm, he tries to make the course interesting. Only a midterm and final exam that really doesn't effect your grade. You do not a need a textbook, just Google the mandated readings in order to complete the journals

Great class. Journals are something you must keep up on. One midterm and final which are inclass essays. Easy if you pay attention and keep up with your work.

Taking him for ENG 101 right now, gotta say if you do you work and utilize all your resources (mandatory anyway) you'll get an A. We watch films instead of "projects" I guess. Homework is very easy, 10 journals per half semester. Makes english class tolerable and easy to pass!

Hands down, the best prof I have had in John Jay so far. Really laid back and cool. The journals are a pain but you can just google the readings. His in class readings were very interesting. Midterm and Final are easy,they don't hurt your grade and you can use your phone or laptop to help yourself out during them. Overall, great prof, great class.

Really free-flow professor, but really serious grader. Don't let down your guard with him, but it's not like he's just harsh. He'll show you how to do better and fix what was wrong, but there is a hella mood shift between in class and out of class.

Prof. Walitalo is awesome! You should definitely take his class. I was in his Eng 101 class and I can't imagine him being a terrible person in any other class he teaches. He is a very nice and understanding person and teaches very well. I have been in the US for 3 years and got an A in his class. Just spend the time and you should pass easily.

Super chill and laid back professor I've ever met. Never seen a bad side to him and will answer your emails in a timely matter. Honestly recommend the class if you want to actually enjoy english.

Only 2 papers (5 page essay and 5 page research paper), midterm and final (in-class essays) are pass/fail and if you fail it doesn't hurt your grade, answers all your questions, incorporates film into class which is enjoyable

This man is the MAN. I had him for my first transfer semester and he was terrific. I must say he is a tough grader, but if you work with him and do the material with some intuition, you will succeed. Great sense of humor

my favorite prof this semester. he's a film teacher as well so he shows some movies in the class and makes everything interesting. there are journal assignments to do but if you do one or two a week you'll end up with more than you need (extra credit!) there are tons of opportunities to boost your grade as well.

Hes a great professor. Really funny and down to earth. We had great conversations in class about political topics! Wish hed taught 201. When I took him (last semester) the class was graded on a first paper, a midterm in class paper, final paper and final in class paper. The midterm and final in class papers were pass or fail.

He's a cool professor. He definitely tries to make the class more interesting with the topics we have to write papers about. We also watch movies and put it into our writing. I would definitely take him again, he taught me how to write better. He's also funny.

Absolute gem. I loved being in his class and I was happy to have signed up for it. It's not the easiest class in the world but it could be the most encouraging. No reason to fail, the professor is really laid back.

Jay talks a lot but he has some good stuff to say. There was only two papers and a midterm and final. If you get a good enough grade on the first paper and midterm you dont have to take the final. Hes very helpful with his feedback. Only homework is journals that he checks mid semester and at the end. Cool dude

Best teacher ever i loved him

I truly loved taking this class. if you get an A on your first paper (which he truly helps you get) then you don't have to take the final exam. Say you didn't like the grade you got on the first paper he'll boost your grade if you do the journal entries properly. his criteria are always so clear and he really does try to help you get a good grade.

Prof. W is amazing. If you show up and participate you will definitely pass the class. My class did not have any readings that needed to be done instead we watched about 3 movies and had to write papers per movie, but he helps with the whole writing process and gives time in class to work on the papers.

The screenwriting class was great and gave me confidence that I could become one. We matched films to see how the sequences were and reviewed the material for formatting and putting together your own script. He gives exercises to help you write your own script which is due at the end of the semester. Overall, he was great and hope he teaches again.

Easiest class Ive taken so far. Keep up with your journals and do writing assignments on time and youll pass.

Jay is a good professor, he really makes you think about things. We had two short and easy papers, a midterm and a final (you could skip the final if you did well enough on midterm). One long paper in the end but other than that.... no hw or anything

Professor Jay is the best English professor here! He gives good feedback and gives you many extra credit opportunities. All we had to do was a paper, the midterm and the final (which you did not have to take if you passed the first paper and midterm) as well as journal entries which were also simple to do. I would definitely recommend him!

By far my favorite professor yet! He has a film background so the topics chosen to cover in class are all so interesting and revolve around the arts. Hes funny and loves to start a conversation. There are two papers and two exams and journal entries, very manageable work load and interesting topics. Would highly recommend taking his class!

Keep up with the writing journals, and essays and you will be fine. This professor is very understanding and gives you and extension if needed. He always replies to your emails, sure the writing journals are alot but only 250 words, and his grading policy is actually pretty good and fair

Had him in Spring 2020. He is amazing! Interesting lectures and very communicative. If you're a movie lover, take his class! We got to watch 2 films. Has great feedback for papers. Journal entries are easy to keep up with. Though we didn't have online lectures, he still communicated through email regularly. Can't recommend him enough!

I actually can't remember if attendance was mandatory, but I would recommend showing up. He always posts an announcement the night before the class or the morning of the class discussing what we will be doing. As long as you put in an effort to all assignments and write good papers, you should easily get an A. His class was enjoyable.

One of the best professors to take as a freshman. He is was so kind and understanding especially since this last year has been HORRIBLE. He does not give a lot of homework, but there was a journal question after every class and he collects the journal entires at the end of the semester, super short and easy. He also gives thorough explanations !

He made the semester go past so fast. His lectures are interesting and often open discussions so many have the chance to participate. There are lots of writing, but he gives the right amount of time to complete them so make sure you start them as soon as he suggests to do so. Be creative and use references. He is always responsive to questions.

I only had Professor Jay once a week so workload was light. Journal entries are a requirement. 20 due by the end of the semester. 200-250 words min. Prompts werent too difficult and he loves movies. Meeting with a tutor for papers are required but if you get a good tutor they can be very helpful. 4(online)Writing workshops are required as well.

Professor Walitalo is one of the best English teachers I've had so far. He made me more confident in my writing. His only homework is 200-word writing journals once a week that is based on class discussions so it's really easy. 1 midterm paper and 1 final paper. Definitely recommend him to everyone even if you're not the best writer. Easy class.

He is the most lenient Professor. Submit some form of work and you will get nothing lower than a B. Grades super light and top 3-4 actual writing assignments. He loves film so he will most likely talk about movies than English. He is always there for office hours or stays longer after class. He cares about students passing!

I took him during my Freshman year in the fall of 2018. He was such a good professor that I had to rate him before I graduate. He's one of the best professors. He's good with grading, only has 4 writing assignments, and understands student life. If you're looking for a good introduction to college school work, Mr. Walitalo is the person to go to.

The class basically consists of him talking about films and we watch movies instead of using readings for our writing pieces. Mid term & final are 5 paragraph essays. Theres 2 writing pieces and a journal of 20 entries of 200 words. He is really nice and very accessible outside of class. I recommend him 100% DONT SLEEP ON HIM.

Prof. Walitalo is a great teacher and engages with his students verbally and through films. There are opportunities for extra credit even though assignments are usually light. His focus on art, film, photography, and more are interesting and make you consider a film class with him!

Prof. Walitalo used his knowledge of the film industry to teach his class more interactively. Instead of reading, we watched films to better understand the topics we learned about. He does not give many assignments so make sure to keep up with whatever he gives as it can impact your grade either positively or negatively.

Good professor. We watched 3 really good films throughout the semester. 250 word writing journal after every class, 20 total. 2 essays, 1 midterm and 1 take-home final. He's really nice, kind of talks a lot but you'll get used to it. VERY strict about attendance. Every unexcused absence lowers your grade by one letter. 3 lateness=1 absence.

Walitalo makes his ENG101 class really engaging with film screenings instead of just reading. Attendance is mandatory but he's lenient. For study prep, Unstuck ai and ChatGPT were super helpful alongside the course materials.

Great professor, very passionate about his work. He's inspiring to me as an older veteran student returning to school after 7 years and gave me hope that I can succeed in academia. Asks the class lots of questions to inspire conversation, also great film taste. Classmates were unappreciative! My only complaint is sometimes he rambles off topic.
