Its hard to understand his accent..but if you pay attention in class and take veryyy good notes...i think you ll do fine...but according to me you should study on your own dont depend on his notes...other wise his test are good and class is interesting...
If you pay attention to him when he writes, and take notes you will do great. On his tests you are allowed to use 2 pages front and back of notes. He reviews for a week before the test. the optional h/w questions are usually on the tests exactly!
hard to understand at times, goes over exact test questions...allows notes to be used for tests...easy A.
One of the best professors I've had. Very understanding and compassionate. One has to work hard though to earn a good grade.
Very discouraging class. Was clear in showing formulas but very disappointing in the area of application and thinking. I felt very ill prepared for the common final and for future classes that will require statistics.
Class was very discouraging. I dont think I learned a single thing. Its hard to understand his accent, you really have to pay attention to do so. Didnt prepare at all for common final. If you're trying to learn, dont take this teacher
hw is due just about once a week. he grades very leniently (i didnt do one of the required problems for the midterm and still ended up with a 100). He isnt very helpful with questions though bc he often doesnt understand what u r asking bc his english isnt great.I ended up teaching myself how to do the hw from the book. got an easy A.
He's a good teacher, but doesn't know how to explain things. Goes quickly through lectures so you have to keep up...2 midterms are a breeze (i made 100 on both) but you wont be prepared at all for the common final unless you do some extra work on your own to understand the concepts. Fun, laid-back class made it easy to go to.take bishwal for easy A
easy A for me, and i failed stats the first time through (because i missed 4 classes..long story). he's a little hard to understand and makes mistakes sometimes. his tests are graded very easily. if you listen and do your homework, i promise, you will get a good grade..but only if you do that.
Easy A. tests come from the study guide so go to class and write every single thing he says about it before the tests. Common final was a little hard and you have to study.
even though its kind of hard to understand you can tell he's a pretty intelligent person he just doesn't know how to show it.but if you come to class each day you should be able to pass.if you skip a couple classes you'll be lost later. grades tests pretty leniently. you cant fail as long as you try & put down something like you know what u'r doing
thank God this was my last math class. you can hardly understand a word he is saying. he seems to really like stats but i thought it was hard. i have no clue how i made an a in the class.
This class is very easy. He will give you an A if you do the work. The homework is worth most of your grade and the exams are take home. He is a very nice, intelligent man and is very helpful during office hours. The class was an easy A.
Bishwal was the best math teacher I have ever had. All I did was read everything in the textbook and I got an A. I couldn't understand what was going on in class but that didn't matter. As long as you do the homework and attend class when he's reviewing for the test and you can make an A. It's that simple.
Easiest A in math I have ever got. Missed over 10 days, showed up for exams and review of exams. He has a 15 pt scale so a 85 is an A! You get to use 2 pages of notes on the exams and 5 pages for the final! I recommend for anyone!
He is sooo easy he will give you all the questions for the test and let you use two front and back sheets of paper to write notes on- put all the answers to the questions he gives you the day before
horrible teacher. doesn't speak english. do not take.
Hard to understand AT FIRST. If you pay attention you will do fine. Best math teacher I ever had. I had an average of 99.8 at the end of the class
Recomend taking. If you dont understand math go to class and write down what he does. If you do go to review day and he gives you questions like whats on the test and you get to use that on the test. Make good grades on the unit tests then bs the final and you will get an A. He knows his stuff but really hard to get what he knows out of him somtime
I am taking this course with him right now. It is a fairly easy class. I am not simply meaning you can walk into class, and expect an A- there at least has to be some work involved. His accent is hard to understand; yet, he is very, very knowledgeable and intelligent. He is helpful and easy to communicate to.
You get 2 sheets of paper for exams, NONE for the final. Exams are the majority of your grade, with homework (10) for 10%. He's from India so yes, he has an accent but he's the BEST math teacher I've EVER had. It's impossible to not receive As as he will do everything possible to help you. TAKE HIM especially if you're not great at math.
I have taken many math courses and I believe Professor Bishwal is the most intelligent and knowledgeable of all. Yes, he is a little hard to understand at first but then you get use to it. He is helpful and easy to communicate with. Easy class as long as you pay attention, write what he writes, and study a little.
Awful awful teacher, but there is NO way you can get lower than a B in the class. Fifteen pt grading scale, and you can write literally ANYTHING as an answer on the test and get credit. Turned in all my homework on the last day of class. However you will never understand a word he says or learn a thing.
During the review, he goes over a study guide. Write it all down! You can use that as your 2 pages of notes during the test and the problems on the test are just like the ones on the study guide..just different numbers. Final is tough but get at least a B on each test(not hard) and you'll be fine. I'm terrible in math and got a "B" in the class
He has an accent but he is understandable. He uses overhead projector for notes be he has very neat handwriting and explains concepts very well. He is friendly, down to earth, and has a sense of humor. check your grades, graders aren't perfect so check that homework if they count one wrong.
he is a good teacher, he knows his stuff, but he doesnt really speak english good.. you have to use to blue book. but he gives you a study guide and you can have notes for the exam... the final is a pain in the ass.. if you dont know the material going in.. you grade will drop a letter :(
Professor Bishwal was the best. I think his accent was very understandable and he's always willing to assist with questions. He allows 2-3 pages of notes on each test and goes over a practice test beforehand which is exactly the same with different numbers. I came into the class thinking I would fail without a tutor and made a high A without one!
he is super helpful! understandable, and he knows his subject, his test are passable..I would take another class of his in the future, however stats is not an easy subject you will need to actually study to pass!
Great professor. So Nice and a good teacher. He has a heavy accent but if you go to his office he is very helpful. I made an A in his class and enjoyed going to class. Very Sweet and Nice professor. He still remembers me !!
Hard to understand him, and he's unorganized.
Great and helpful professor. If he see that you are trying in his class and willing to learn he is very helpful. He gives everyone the same opportunities although it is hard to understand him. As long as you get the overall concept, you will do fine
Started off somewhat difficult to understand, but you get used to his accent. He is pretty funny for a stats professor, but is very strict on attendance. Homework due every week, two tests and a final. Nothing too hard, but the subject itself can trip people up.
Excellent professor. He is very clear in class, has neat handwriting and I love the way he uses the overhead projector, very clear examples and he's patient and kind when asked to explain something. I made an A+ in his class.
One of the best professors at UNCC! He is interested in his student's success. Is very helpful, answers emails quickly (even on weekends), lots of homework, BUT it helps to prep for tests, gives you practice tests. Great Professor
I took Bishwal for STATS and even though I am terrible at math he really does make it as easy to pass as possible! I didn't always understand the HW but he always gives as much credit as possible on HW and tests!!! But the solutions book!
Bishwal is actually a good instructor. His strong accent will throw you way off at first, but over time you'll get it. Pay attention, attend class, and do test reviews and you should be able to pass.
Bishwal was a little hard to understand at first with his Indian accent. However, it did not take long to get use to it. He was good at explaining most of the material. If you do not understand it from lecture you can teach yourself everything from the textbook. His practice exams were almost the same as the real ones. Very easy A if you try.
Never again.
I did not find his teaching style helpful. He mainly copies problems from the book onto the overhead projector. I have had math professors who could walk students through difficult material but that's not what happened in this class. I was lost from the first day and it never got any better.
People love to hate on him for his accent and teaching style. Its not hard to understand him. He isnt mean or rude. He just tells people to put away their phones. Pay attention and show up and you will absolutely get an A.
Fortunately, the class itself is really easy. His accent makes it extremely hard to understand what is going on. Tests are the study guide with different numbers.
Your grade is totally dependent upon you and how much effort you're willing to give outside of class. There are only 3 tests and a final, plus homework grades, so if you're consistent with those two things you'll be fine. However, he doesn't go over principles or terms so you're going to have to figure those out for yourself!
He was an amazing professor! He had an accent but you got used to it within the first week of class. His tests are exactly like the practice tests so do them!! The homework is harder than his test but its definitely manageable and good practice, plus if you need help you could always go to the free tutor sessions! I would take him again!
The only people who complain about his accent are the lazy students that pay more attention to their phones than the board. If you have a hard time with the material, homework or practice test, he will help you. It is funny, but he is kind of adorable. My sister loved him too, and she is the one that suggested him. His tests are like the practice.
Dr. Bishwal is not that great with English and has a very heavy Indian accent. He doesn't answer questions very well, so the best way to pass is to go on youtube and watch statistics videos. He takes attendance at the end, so you can't leave class early. He uploads the notes online prior to class so you can review them before walking in there.
Accent is something you'll get used to. He's very thorough with the content, posts test reviews with complete, neatly-written work. Kind of an easy grader when it comes to tests (don't have to get question right, as long as the work looks good). Homework is a pain but a lot of it is posted on Chegg. Overall difficult class but he makes it easier.
Pretty straight forward class. Only grades you'll have in the class are the 2 exams and the final so you have to do really good on them. Practice tests are similar to exams. The questions on the exams have multiple parts to them so nobody ever got to finish on time which was probably the only reason why I did not make an A because of the missed ?s
Accent isn't as bad as everyone says. Exams are the exact replica of practice tests except with different numbers, gives credit just for trying to attempt a problem and showing your work so curves are huge. Got two B's on regular exams and didn't know my final exam grade but passed with an A. Easy GPA booster if you listen & do some practice.
I took Dr. Bishwal for a Summer stats class and he was a great professor. I highly recommend anyone take him for stats (busn). His teaching style was really easy to grasp and does a great way of relating the material at hand.
This class an A is (100-85), The whole course, is centered around three major test and then the final with twelve homework assignments. I am the worst at math, and I sat in his class the entire time on my phone and never paid attention. I got a B on the class because I had a C, and asked him to change it and he did
He is a great professor and I would totally recommend. The homework was super annoying to do since you have to turn it in. However, we had three tests which were very similar to the practice exams so I would recommend doing them. The final was pretty hard in my opinion but he will give you a bunch of old final exams that are similar to the final.
This professor is very hard to understand, but the overall course with him is easy if you show up to class. The lowest grade you get for turning homework is a 70 even if it is wrong. The tests are nearly identical to practice quizzes so make sure to do them and show up to the class before the test. He curves his test and has a great grading scale!
On the positive side, he does post practice exams that are nearly identical to actual tests. His accent is just as thick as everyone says and it's very difficult to keep up with him. He does take attendance. He is reachable but very difficult to communicate with. Did a horrible job with online transition. Yells at students who leave for restroom.
Do not take this class. This professor is not respectful to his students. His teaching style is very fast-paced and not helpful at all. Be prepared to teach yourself from the textbook and use Khan Academy. The only thing good is that his practice tests are very similar to the actual ones.
I honestly had no idea what was happening the entire semester and gave up paying attention in class 9 weeks in. Went to another prof's class to learn, then showed up here to get attendance credit. COVID-19 making classes online and Chegg helped me get the A.
If you're thinking about taking this class online DON'T. Did not even teach, just expected us to read the text, figure it out, and do the weekly quizzes. If I didn't have a boyfriend who was a Math major I would have been screwed. If you are not good at math, do not take this course online. I repeat, DO NOT TAKE IF NOT GOOD AT ANY TYPE OF MATH.
I don't really know why he has such bad reviews. I am THE WORST at math and I came out with an A+. The course is made up of quizzes (you have 10 attempts to take each quiz) and two exams (midterm & final). Chegg is also your best friend in the course, most quiz and exam questions came from it.
He means good, but he is unorganized and difficult to understand. He's a caring professor but not the best lecturer.
Good professor, overall. He can be slightly difficult to understand at times, due to the awful PA system and his accent. If you pay close attention to what he's writing on the projector, he does a good job explaining things.
It was difficult to follow his lectures. I'd recommend a different professor.
Can barely understand the man. His teaching style is also terrible and trying to focus during his lectures is a real challenge.
Worst teacher I've ever had. Impossible to understand due to a heavy accent. Handwritten notes are messy and impossible to read. Bad teaching style, even worse online. Assigns a lot of quizzes on Canvas but doesn't tell us what to round answers to so they're always marked wrong. EXTREMELY rude to students and yells at wrong answers/confusion. Run!!
I took professor Bishwal over the summer. He didn't really communicate with the class. The class consisted of quizzes, 1 exam, and the final exam. The quizzes were a pain because he would never tell you what to round to, so the system always counted things wrong that were correct. If the does happen just email him or the TA and they would fix it.
used canvas quizzes for homework
He means good, but I am not a fan of his teaching style. Every lecture he gets out a piece of paper and starts randomly writing down equations and numbers. That's it. You are assumed to know what is being written down and he didn't give us the formula sheet until 1 month into the semester. Btw textbook is available online, so it'll save ya some $$.
Professor Bishwal doesn't really teach that well, all he does is get out a piece of paper and starts writing stuff down. Hw was based on quizzes that had 10 attempts, but it was only that way bc he didn't have a TA. Normally hw will be from the textbook from each chapter. He has a heavy accent, so he's his a bit hard to understand.
Good thing was you don't need the textbook and we got 10 attempts on homework assignments. Dr. Bishwal was not good at explaining and focused on just writing notes instead. He was not good at answering questions in class. When you email him about homework he just gives you the answers instead of explaining how to solve it.
Do not take this class with Jaya. He gives 10 attempts on quizzes which are considered the homework but once exam time comes it's over. He is a poor lecturer and seems to care very little about teaching, he is just there for the paycheck.
Worst Professor I've had at this school. Doesn't care about the success of his students and it's obvious. Extremely out of touch with what it's like learn this material since he's known this information for so long. DON'T TAKE HIM!
Dr. Bishwal is really amazing. The first two weeks were frightening because he has a thick accent and moves fast, but stick it out. After about two weeks you really get used to his accent and teaching style. Go to class even tho he doesn't take attendance. It is much easier to learn from him than from the text! one of the best profs i've ever had
More than fair in grading and the exams and final are almost exact replicas of the practice exams given. Will definitely need to study but overall he's a good professor to have!
The only grades are from quizzes and exams. They are easy (quizzes get 10 attempts and are online; exams are replicas of past exams), but struggling students probably need more homework/examples/grade opportunities in order to pass, so I pity them. He takes attendance by paper instead of using pollev. He doesn't teach from the textbook, either.
I would recommend professor Bishwal. There are several quizzes for this class but he allows 10 attempts for each. He does his best to explain and elaborate on the material so that everyone understands. He has an accent but you can definitely understand him.
He is a great math professor. He is passionate about statistics although he does have a thick accent, however, I never had trouble understanding him. He doesn't assign a lot of work at all just quizzes and exams. 10 attempts on each quiz. He works with students who put in effort, if you don't put in effort you will most likely do poorly.
All his notes from class is posted on canvas. Attendance is mandatory and you'll fail if you don't attend. Grades only come from quizzes and 4 exams including the final. he does review in class going over past exams which are the exact same with the exception of word and number changes. final is worth 30%. he is easy if u jus go to class and study.
Its important you pay attention in class he has a heavy accent. Class consisted of 22 quizzes throughout the semester where you have 10 attempts. They're 4 test the review he post on canvas. He offers help if you dont understand.
DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN!!!!! HE ONLY USES BLUE BOOKS AND TESTS ARE THE ONLY ASSIGNMENTS! DO NOT!!!!!!!
Honestly, he has such a thick accent it can be hard to understand him sometimes. But, he does write everything down that he is saying and doing and projects it onto the screen. The quizzes are allowed up to 10 attempts. If you pay attention in class and use the practice exams to your advantage, you will pass. Attendance matters.
Overall just a terrible professor. He cares very little about his students and you cannot reach him outside of the classroom. The quizzes do not prepare you for the exam in the slightest, and his grading criteria for the quizzes are incredibly unclear. If you can take a different professor please do.
I'm not a math person at all and because of having difficulty in calculus 1 i took STAT 1220, with professor Bishwal he is very supportive and he does believe curving test grades and final exam grades, just try to keep 100% in quizzes and only 3 test in entire course and yes he does provide the previous semester test and the test solutions.
He knows what he's talking about, but it is very hard to understand him. I had an A in the class until the final because the questions were completely different from the ones we practice. I used YouTube and Google more than him. Attendance is mandatory; you get to miss four classes, and if you miss more, your grade is automatically a 0.
The thick accent made it very difficult to understand what he was saying but the quizzes and the textbooks made it easier to understand the material. He is very lenient on grades compared to other prof. which he would give 10 attempts on each quiz. The tests were relatively easy if you study the past tests, so if you study, you should be fine.
Accent but u get used toit,he is overall a nice person. The class as a whole is one of the easiest classes I have taken, considering I am horrible at math/stats. The homework is not bad and you have lots of time, and the tests are literally copies of the practice exams, so they are very easy as long as you study it beforehand.
I suck at math so I was initially scared of taking this class. I ended up loving this class and it completely changed my perspective on how easy math could be. Dr. Bishwal sets you up for success by literally making the exams identical to the practice exams, and provides you with all of the formulas that you need on exams. An easy A!
He's a really smart guy, but unfortunately I and many others could not understand him. No worries, since some practice outside of class can get you back on track. He cracks jokes sometimes which made the class a bit more bearable. Attendance is mandatory.
Dr. Bishwal is a good professor, and tests are exactly like the practice exams. However, his final was extremely difficult and the average was a 55. There are also only quizzes and tests for grades, so I recommend getting a different professor if you can.
Professor Bishwal is not the worst math teacher I have had but definitely not the best. The main grades are quizzes and tests. If you mess up on a test, you could be in trouble. If you honestly do the work with him while you're in class, you will learn. I will say sometimes this is difficult due to the accent. Overall, not a horrible option.
Professor Bishwal is a smart guy, but has a thick indian accent. I ended up using YouTube and ChatGPT to learn the material. Grades are quizzes (10 attempts) and exams (identical to practice tests), so it's a fairly easy class. Prepare for pain with the final exam though, the average score was a 67. Attendance is mandatory, missing 4 classes = 0.
I really enjoyed this class and he is an amazing teacher who sets you up for success. Only downside is the attendance policy, you can only have 4 absences. Other than that, if you study and reach out the the TA or professor then you can make it through with a pretty good grade.
Amazing Professor! Don't believe what anyone else writes (they didn't try), if you take the time to practice his practice exams you will always get an A. Practice exams are word for word what will be on the test. Don't be shy to talk to him! He cares about all the students and amazing to talk to!
His accent is hard to understand at first, but gets easier through the semester. All of his quizzes are online and the textbook is optional but recommended to be used like homework. He has 3 tests and a final that make up most of your grade.
His class was fine; he has a very thick accent, which makes the first couple of weeks of class an adjustment. He doesn't do homework, so your grade consists of the online quizzes and tests. The 3 tests are actually like the practice exams, so if you can do those, you will pass the class. I would not take STAT 1220 with him if given a choice.
