I agree with the first guy
very weird and very boring. wanted to jam pen in my eye to make class more fun
worst course, emotional, boring, required too much work, got frustrated easily,
Not an exciting class. decent instructer. If ur a good BSr, give it a shot
Some times is making a point and stops and you're like, What the hell?
Somehow, my B papers give me a C in the class..that stupid final killed me..I
Shes not helpful or clear but the material is easy (I have a 98 w/o studying!)
I fell a sleep and still got an A, she is a bore does not belong in Academia
extremely confusing, boring, too hard. stay away, do not take class!!!
Really, really boring. Very confusing. Very liberal.
She cant teach the material, very smart. She changes topics and looses the class all the time. Hard to follow jumps around to much.
very boring, and yes monotone, i think she is a lost member of the adam's family. other that a bright woman who just cant get her point across. despite it all its still an easy class.
Make sit very unclear whats she wants on your papers. a big spaceball.
Very vague in explaining. Nice woman but can't seem to get her point across. You'll get a good grade but might not learn anything.
VERY UNCLEAR! Nice lady but very unclear on directions. Avoid if possible.
GREAT teacher! And a very good lady, and extremely intelligent! Makes the topics very interesting. And eventhough she is politically liberal, she is VERY respectful of conservative students, and she has VERY high personal moral standards.
She's nice but she doesn't know how to explain. She doesn't know how to put things into her own words.
WEIRD-O! She is a TERRIBLE teacher! She gives essay style quizzes EVERY DAY! AVIOD LIKE EBOLA!
Pretty good. A very strange lady who enjoyed jumping from topic to topic as the class pleased. She graded our weekly papers very hard and took attendance, but didn't factor any of that into our grades! Easier than you think, but do your work.
Very monotone. Lost within her own thoughts. Funny as it may seem, she happened to be teaching the same course for different sections, in which she so delightfully pointed out that, her first class was far more interesting and that ours was a bore and a drawback to come to.
Not a good teacher I did do well but i went to every class and studied pretty hard. Just beware that you will not enjoy going to class.

The class on its own was pretty much a bird course, but she's prob. the most confusing teacher I've ever had.Totally fails at getting her ideas across & she also succeeds at confusing herself too. A lot of the time is spent watching her figure out what she really means to say. doesn't give much hwork, tests are pretty simple.(as long as you read!)
Very Unclear, wants test answers to be incredibly specific. I spent 3 hours researching and doing a take home test and I hardly passed it. I would not recommend.
not clear at all. went off on tangents and hard to follow. tests were random and graded harshly. i read and went to every class and still was confused. avoid if possible.
VERY boring and confusing. Her tests were SO hard. They were all fill in the blanks/short answers and the questions would be on people or things that they would just MENTION in the book and you would have to look up on your own. Too much for just a gen-ed class.
I've had for two classes now (deductive logic and global issues) and she is probably the worst teacher in the whole university. You basically have to teach yourself all of the material. And I mean ALL of the material, plus more, because you never know WHAT she's going to put on the test. DO NOT DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. I wish I was exagerrating.
I agree with the person below. This is no exaggeration. This course has no structure, and she provides very little feedback for tests &/or papers. Don't even take her if this is your only option. (Also, I do have an A in this course.)
Tristan is slightly mono-toned and will put you to sleep within the first ten minutes. The class lacks organization and when I was able to stay awake, she was just rambling about things only slightly connected to the topic. The tests are ridiculously hard, but she gives you many chances to pull your grade up. At least she's merciful....=T
Ok.... so heres the deal about ole Jannie Poo. SHE S U C K S. I swear one minute she would be talking about one thing, and the next she would be talking about the other. Her tests are NOTHING on what she says they will be on, and it's so hard to stay awake in her class. DO NOT TAKE IT!
She isnt that bad. I actually liked the course. Her teaching is definately different, but she brings many good points up about our world.
She is a good teacher and I liked her class. Those who said they didn't like her class are either marketing majors or not interested in learning.
Very boring class because of the teacher. She likes to ramble. She's quite incoherent. She doesn't like to be contradicted. I think I only used the book once during the whole semester to answer questions out of it for the midterm. This class is extremely boring, but it certainly isn't hard if you have to take it and want to lighten your courseload.
She is a nice person but not a good teacher. You will not have an idea what the test is going to be on. Told us to write a research paper at the last week of class. Her tests contain 20 match letter with number questions that would crap on your brain. Do not take her. If you are stuck with her then goodluck
Dr. Tristan is a very fair professor. The assignments within her science, technology and society class were few in quantity but required hardwork in quality. In other words, the class is easy and you will learn a lot, but only if you attend class regularly and commit to the work assigned.
She is a extremely easy eatcher but she does ramble quite a bit. If you read the book, "what is the what" you will do fine. The book quizes are fairly easy and she gives a full study guide for the exams. And whoever said something about the paper at then end of the seme3ster is full of it. She told us from the beggining we would have the paper
She is a fairly easy teacher and the final is very easy. She didn't take attendance the first 3/4 of class and then started taking attendance towards the final. All the tests were takehome essay-like question tests and were failry easy. I only got a C because I slacked off. Very easy prof.
Nice professor!!
I really enjoyed her class and while she does tend to ramble you can tell she knows alot about what she is teaching. She is also very friendly and if you pay attention then you will do fine!!!
Take home essay question exams, using book and in class videos for content. Takes notes on videos though, would have helped me if i had.
This class was not too bad. However, it was extremely boring and really early (being at 8 am). You kinda have to practice to get the logic of some of the material. The tests were pretty easy.
She had a difficult time presenting material to class. Unorganized. She seems to know a lot, but doesn't know how to express it coherently. Took attendance in the beginning and end of semester, but not so much in the middle.
Class bored me to tears and I gained nothing from it
You never know what is going to be talked about in class, there is no structure. Bad teacher, but seems like a nice lady. There is a final paper & presentation at the end of the semester on a book you read.
Very Easy Course. If you don't like to participate in discussions then you will be bored. Tests and Exams are nothing to worry about. Nice lady and very flexible.
Awesome. Take her class.
Terrible teacher! She mumbled and was very unsure of what she was teaching and couldn't answer any questions. Never gives back grades and on the last book report she approved my book and mid presentation made me sit down because she didn't remember approving my book, giving me a presumaby poor grade (because she didn't give the grades back). Awful.
Lectures are so boring. She has a monotone voice which makes it worse. She is unorganized and gets off topic easily. Hard to keep up or keep track of whats going on in class. Wouldnt recommend her.
Global Connections (PHIL): She is so precious. I liked her. I'll admit she has no rhyme or reason to her lectures. Her moodle is just a jumble of links. The material is interesting, and she is very intelligent and knows her stuff, but her presentation and organization leave much to be desired. She is helpful and thorough when you have questions
Some of the worst class material of all time. Our work was online and not too hard, she tried and seemed nice. I think I only went to 3 or 4 classes because the material was so bad. I got a B but if you skip you skip at your own risk.
She is a bit unorganized but she is very very smart and knows what she is talking about. She makes an argument for both sides of the issues and is very fair.
She is really nice and helpful. Her quizes are very easy. Class is interesting and you learn alot by video and lecture.
She is the only professor who understands that not every student fits on the traditional method of teaching... I actually enjoy her classes, which I have taken 2, and learned a lot. I even keep the books after because they are so interesting. She will help you if she sees you making an effort towards learning. not for the lazy.
GREAT CLASS! I LEARNED A LOT AND WITH EASY. YOU JUST HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION
She is a sweet lady, who tries her best to make the class easy and helpful. Class is a little boring but its easy, test are online and there is a presentation that counts as your final, and its not that bad. She is a little shy, but she will work with you if your having issues. Easy A, and she is nice!
Nice lady. If you come to class then you will pass her quizzes. She is very understanding if you do the work there is no reason you should not get an A.
Take another writing intensive if not a computer science major. Quizzes poorly written. Horrible grammar. Lectures not organized. Don't read the textbook. Just use it as a reference when taking the quizzes.
class could have been a lot more interesting than it actually was. the lectures were borrrring and pertained little to the quizzes done through moodle. attendance is required so bring a book or other work to work on during class. this class is pretty much a pre-law class, so if you're not good at lawyer talk, stay away.
I've taken Dr. Tristan for two classes and wish to take more with her. If you do the work and talk with her you should have no problem passing the class. Many students do not understand her teaching methods, but if you stick with it you will see in the end that it all comes together. Her Critical Thinking class was exceptionally helpful.
She is very nice, a little soft-spoken in class but she definitely knows what she is talking about. Attendance is not mandatory but if you attend class, it will benefit your grade especially if you're borderline an A or a B. Attendence will bump your grade up. Quizzes are easy if you do the reading. You'll learn a lot if you invest the time.
Nice lady, she is lenient with her grading policies. All the quizzes are online, and she encourages people to argue for lost points (she wants to see your POV on questions). Text book use was moderate (2 books). She does get pretty boring at times, though, and she doesn't seem able to say what she really wants to at times.
Only need the textbook for quiz questions. Lectures can be dry at times, but for the most part are interesting. Quizzes are difficult but you can use google and other resources. One paper and presentation. Ok professor, but probably wouldn't take her again unless I had to.
Not a bad class. Would be better if other students participated more (so that there could actually be discussion on the material). I didn't buy the textbook and I'm making an A, so no real reason to buy it unless you're interested in the material (But there's the news for that).
A very nice and understanding professor. Lectures can get boring unless you are interested in the topic but I enjoyed them. She is very knowledgeable about all the topics and let's you see things from different perspectives. The textbook is used mostly for the quizzes and the quizzes are taken online. I would definitely take another class with her!
She knows her stuff and speaks very clearly about issues. She secretly funny and is more modern than you would think. When you ask for help she helps you and cares but make sure you're not in a hurry.
Dr. Tristan is very smart but seems very docile with the class. She seems to hesitate a lot and class can be rather dross, but her grading is very lenient if you just do the work. This is an easy A, but expect a lot of work. WAY too much for the final exam (3 hours minimum work no joke).
She says at the beginning if you do well and tells you if you come to class EVERY DAY and participate and you're missing an A by a few points and you deserve it, she'll give it to you. She lied. She completely throws you under the bus. Other than that, it wasn't that bad. She took the class lightly and didn't let our in-class talks flow freely.
Really interesting class, If you show up and show any interest which i suggest, you will make an A in the class. Make sure you talk to her if you have any problems and you should be fine. For the mid term get in a group and do it because its online.
Worst Professor I've ever had. She makes nearly no sense during her lecture and her videos that she posts sort of relate to the lecture. She bounces off the walls all the time with topics. You basically would have to have her entire life journal and know everything about how she thinks in order to get a B on any sort of assignment. DO NOT TAKE!
Quite possibly the worst professor I've ever had. Lectures rarely have anything to do with what you're tested on, and she gives no helpful material. She assigns readings from recommended books and doesn't use the required book (except once). Google doesn't help either. Overall, the class was a pure waste of time.
Weekly online quizzes that you don't have to finish in one sitting. At the end of every quiz, you can argue back your points (I got a 61, argued back points, ended with an 89). I did that for every quiz and got an A. It's an applied logic class, if you try, you will be fine. Give some thought to quizzes, they're not straightforward. Learned alot.
Without a doubt her quizzes and tests were very confusing and long. It's not necessarily an easy A if you don't read her stuff carefully. However, it is evident that the professor is willing to help out and wants most of her students to pass. I took her online class. Try hard on her quizzes and participate in the forums and you should pass.
Took her online class. Reading is a requirement. Topics not hard if you stay on track you will pass. She is helpful and willing to help you pass.
Philosophy is the biggest joke at UNCC. Not even critical thinking based, just watching a bunch of online random videos and answering questions. Forum participation was somewhat engaging. Since this class is required from comp sci majors there's nothing you can do. This class needs to be in person, would be way better.
I hate this class and I hate this professor! If you have to take Phil 1106, pick another professor. Tristan is inconsistent, and when you ask for help, she gives horrible feedback. You learn absolutely nothing from this course and Learning Quizzes become TORTURE. I did good on the final, just to get a B (89) in the class. No grade boosts! AVOID!
I hate this class and this professor. If you take it online, there are a lot of quizzes to do. She is a tough grader. Her quizzes and test are very long, confusing as hell and poorly written. There are a lot of non-sense questions. This class is a biggest joke. I have to take it because it is a requirement for computer science.
Is this an Introduction or a 3000 philosophy class? she honestly makes this class harder than it needs to be. 15 question quizzes- oh but 1 question has about 10 questions itself. since it's a 1000 level class i thought it would be an INTRO, but the way she sets her online class makes as if we were all philosophy majors, HA. never after this class.
This is not an easy A by any means. The quizzes each week were 10 - 15 questions with each question containing 5+ others. Such a confusing, useless, unnecessary class that's required by some computer science majors. Horrible online execution. 2 exams, 4 forums, 14 quizzes, drops lowest quiz and forum. I
This class was so ridiculously frustrating. Your whole grade is basically determined by these learning quizzes that are weekly. They usually include 2-4 hours of ted talks and video to watch to help you answer questions. I know the class was called critical thinking, but jeez, every question seemed like a trick question! Its an easy B I guess....
The grade is based on weekly quizzes. For each quiz you have to watch a few hours of TED-X talks. I get it's philosophy but the questions are ridiculous, and could go multiple ways. She might as well also call this "The Logical Fallacy Class," because that is the majority of what you learn.
The learning quizzes are pointless, and all of the questions can go either way on them.
Grades based on weekly quizzes that are about 10-15 questions with more questions within each one. She lets you challenge your wrong answers to get back points. Final exam was online, she let us try to win back points on it but she did not even let us see our wrong answers and just submitted our final grade.
This course was very difficult. You took quizzes that had 10-16 questions and among those questions were more questions, Which was very time consuming. Then you would answer them based on TED talks and from the text. She did not teach you what so ever, basically taught yourself. Never take again, stressful class.
This is the most challenging class I have ever taken in college! Every single exam question in this class is subjective to one's opinion! The instructor is very critical in her grading, and will never explain why your wrong. If you do take her as an instructor, work with you GROUP! The only way you will pass is to work together! DO NOT TAKE HER!
Each week you do a "Learning Quiz". At face value these quizzes are 12-15 questions, but in reality each question has at least 10 sub-questions, so it's more like every quiz is 100+ questions, and take at least two hours to do. That coupled with the ambiguous questions she asks makes you contemplate life.
Her class is pretty easy if you just use common sense, and she allows you to argue for wrong answers for credit. However, all of her material is consistently riddled with spelling and grammar errors, making the class more about deciphering her puzzling use of the English language rather than questioning philosophic principles.
Interesting class for the most part. Assignments are straightforward and graded fairly. Fast feedback on assignments.
Although some questions on the quizzes were pretty confusing to figure out what shes asking for, this class is an easy A or B. She is very lenient if you ask for extensions. Not a hard class the quizzes will just probably take a couple hours to complete
