very nice teacher!! she is always happy and she is funny. her essay are not that hard and she grades very well
No Comments
two words: JUST AWESOME
Professor Dubro is very friendly and prepares students well for the essays she assigns. If you do the reading, show up to class and take notes on her lectures you should have nothing but success. She is easy to understand and allows ample time to complete the assignments. Fair grader, relaxed classroom atmosphere.
okay..YOU NEED TO TAKE HER she is very understanding and good on grading. Her class is interesting in the way she teaches. Just do everything she says in your papers and etc and you'll pass with a good grade...plus shes easy on the eyes :D
She is a very good teacher. But she isn't quite as hard as my last teacher was but she is still very helpful.
the comments on here is not true at all. I have to work really hard to maintain a decent grade. she's hard on grading essay and she's very picky with you hw and essay. when u email her, it takes her so long to reply. she's not an understanding teacher and would show up to class with missing supply. yes, she's nice but nice doesn't mean anything.
I agree that she's not easy on grading essay and homework assignments. She pick on every mistake that you make and doesn't really help you much when you ask her. I had her read through my rough draft twice but she still manage to give me a low grade. I mean I corrected everything she said but she still manage to not care.
she is nice and she explain every thing but she does not grade easy!!! i hae no idea why people said that she is easy a she is not u need to work hard in our calss lots of people get c,and B-
Awesome teacher! It's really easy to do well in her class if you do the work, show up for class and put some effort into your work.
ok she teachs good but she grades hard... it is kind of hard to get an A in essays u need to talk with her about paper.. ask questions ,get some comment from her also u need to go to esl center and get some help from there so u really work on it and then u will get A-
she grads hard.. almost it is NOT possible to get an A on essays !!!! :(
Well, she does not give you an A or even a B if you don't deserve it. I am not getting A in her class but I like the class a lot bc I actually learn many things from it. If you want an easy A, look for someone else's class. But if you want to stuff your head with useful knowledge about writing, definitely take her class.
btw, she makes the class so interesting that 1h15mins goes by in a snap of your fingers.
yeah shes hot but shes SO hard on grading. she uses weighted grade system so even harder to get A. you will never score above an A- on paper. only 4 papers though. she also never told us what to study for the final so we all went in there totally unprepared. the textbook is a joke no need to read but bring it to class for writing assignments.
She is nice but she grades very hard. If you are a really good writer, you will get a B in her class. Nearly impossible to get an A, so be careful if you want one.
she grades hard.. and for although final had just 10 points she didnt let us know what really we should study and for essays if u really try hard maybe u get A- or B+
Great teacher! Not an easy A, but definitely a teacher that I would sign up for again. She is extremely helpful and doesn't try to run her classroom like some kind of fascist (like my last English teacher)! Once again, great teacher and super nice (and cute)!
She grades really hard!! You will learn something, but not an easy A. You have to put a lot of effort to get an A. but she is helpful and kind. If you want to get an easy A, do not take her.
She is a nice teacher. She has three grading criterias. If you deserve a C, you will get 78%. If you deserve a B you will get 82% or 88%. If you get an A you will get 92% or 95%. In addition, if you turn in your rough draft on time you will definitely get a minimum of C, which I guess is a good attitude. At least she does not want to fail you inten
She is not a easy teaher. you will need to read the textbook for in class quizzes. Her grading is very straightforward, but it is not easy. she is very nice. you will learn a lot
Her essay are very hard and she picks the topic, so not easy! If your looking for an easy "A" you can forget about it in her class. Nobody in her class has a good grade everybody is lost most of the time and the work load is way to much!!!!
She's a good and easy teacher with genuine interest in her students learning process. You have in class quizzes based on the text although I never read it and still got good grades. Its basically common sense. Attendance is important as it turning in papers on time. The only reason I got a B in her class is cause I skipped the day of the midterm.
Dr. D likes what she does, is willing to help but in my personal experience if u ask her for help "too" much she blows u of instead. Not an easy A, essays are hard. allows you to fix one essay w/in 1 week of her grading. DO NOT TAKE DURING THE SUMMER! specially if you struggle in english. Her class single handedly drop my gpa from a 4.0 to a 3.7
Pretty nice and always helpfull. The class is not really hard at all, just show up and pay attention and you should have an easy A
Very nice and very charismatic. Most of the work are essays that are required by the school. Minimal hw outside of class. She'll help you if you ask and its possible to get an A!
good teacher hard teacher but smoking hott
Doctor Dubro is a fantastic teacher. she is fair when it comes to grades, and is a vary competent professor. The course I took with her was a lot of work, but it was more time consuming then difficult. Dubro's teaching style is one of the best, going over the important things in the textbook reading assigned. A great teacher by any standards.
First, Doc. BuBro is the BEST dressed professor you'll ever have. Second, she is usually very fair in grading. Her examples are relevant and helpful and she never dicourages questions. Her class was fun and was the ONLY class I have ever had the oppotunity to help other students and make friends. Take her classes, work hard, you wont regret it.
She's amazing! She's very nice and helpful, but she's not one to just give away good grades. You have to work hard for A's, but she's there for you every step of the way. Like someone else said, it's really the only class I was able to make new friends. TAKE HER CLASS!!
She is a fantastic professor for english! She was very nice as well! This was a very good class! All you need to do is work hard on the papers and you will get a good grade!
Great Professor. I got an A but I really had to work for it. Not bad on the eyes either.
Easy class! Make sure you do your reading as she gives short quizzes on them. Mid term & final are on the readings too. Start your essays as soon as you can as you can meet with her before they are due. She can tell you what to do to get an A on them. She'll usually late but you don't do anything in class anyway other than quizzes.
She is a good teacher...! My advise to the future students never give up . Thank you for all Dr. Dubro!. Gracias.
Really good teacher!!! :) Very helpfull. Show interest in the class and she help you a lot!! Take her class.
Jean is really cool. She does 4 class essays plus one on the final so be prepared to write A LOT! Her grading is rather strict. She grades on class participation and group work so this is not a class to just sleep through. She does random quizes on reading hw. Her lectures are mostly repetitive to help remember the info.
Her syllabus makes her seem very intimidating and she even says something about not asking to boost your grade up, but if you're one point away from an A like I was, she'll help you out. A lot of writing and reading. Def, not an easy A but she's a great teacher. 3 essays and 2 exams. We didn't get reading quizzes. oh and one field trip to DC!
I took her class for english 111 and all I can say is that she's very nice to help you on how the essay should be done despite that she is strict on grading the essay. The way she teaches in lecture is however is well done to help students succeed. I would recommend her if you don't slack.
BAD TEACHER.If your intention is to test the limits of your reading comprehension and writing abilities then professor DuBro is the one for you. Her lectures are based on very basic subject matter, but they do not relate to the course work. At least two readings and one writing assignment every week. Vauge about assignment requirements. Bad teacher
She is a very good professor and nice person. She makes her lectures fun and interesting. She is definitely very strict so you will have to put in a lot of work. If you are looking for an easy A you might not want to take her. However, if you want to become a better writer and are willing to put in the work, I would definitely recommend her.
really tough class!
She is really friendly and approachable. Has an obvious passion for what she is teaching. Can be a bit of a tough grader but always fair. Really cool :)
Expect to read, read and read. Also write, write and write. Good for learning how to analyze and write analisis.Made class interesting. Often late answering emails.
Class time goes by really fast, the topics are usually really interesting. She is so helpful and sweet and really cares about her students. She will spend a ton of time and effort while going over your paper. She will make jokes through out class, i dont think anyone fell asleep in my class.
She is nice, and helpful during class. The essays do not pose a challenge at all as long as you follow the right steps of writing a college level paper, and even if writing is a challenge, the essays are interesting. The class isn't very hard
Very helpful professor. Works with the students to build writing skills throughout the semester. Always open to give feedback and well very easy to look at to say the least lol
She's understanding, and has a high energy, engaging teaching style that draws students in. The subject is dry, but she manages to keep students interested. The fact that she's INCREDIBLY attractive helps, too.
teaches somewhat okay but very hard grader. Has high standards. Just don't take her for your grade
Miss Jean is a wonderful professor! very helpful, easy, and the prettiest professor I've ever had. "TAKE HER CLASS"
One of the best englit professors I've had at nova. She makes a positive difference for an 8 week course. Very friendly, open-minded, lenient, and flexible. She grades fairly and accordingly to criteria. There will be a lot of reading but then again, its an 8-week course. She's great with what she does. I highly recommend to take her. Pretty too.
Not a bad professor, but it is just assignment after assignment. She expects so much out of her students. You definitely have to work for your A
She's a harsh grader. Even after receiving help from nvcc's writing center repeatedly my papers weren't up to her ideal standards. It's near impossible to get higher than a 90 on papers, making A's difficult. She's ideal if you're just there to learn though, as she does teach. Essentially there'll be around three papers with minor assignments.
I've taken her composition and literature class because she's that great at her job. Yeah, she can be a tough grader but you're going to get a lot out of her class. She's one of the smartest (and funniest) women I have ever met and I would recommend her to any and everyone.
Tough grader, but you will learn a lot from her. She makes the student realize that participation matters. Take her class if you want to learn a lot.
She is one of a kind. Although I got A in the class, you REALLY need to show that you have worked hard. She is an amazing professor, and you will definitely learn a lot with her. She knows how to give a great class. I would always take her class again. TAKE HER!
Be ready to participate. Classes ARE interactive discussions along with analyzing the readings. Many quizzes, two tests, and at least one paper. Quizzes are based on the readings, so get ready to read. Textbook is necessary as the readings are in the textbook. Attendance mandatory. Can rather interesting if you have the right classmates.
Professor Dubro requires a lot of reading between class dates, but nothing insanely unreasonable. You will need to set aside some hours to take care of this task. Quizzes almost every class that, as long as you read the material, can be completed with a good grade. Essays & tests weren't harsh and overall she's a very friendly individual. Take her!
4 Essays, 1 of which is in-class. Course is about composition but focuses on culture. Prof. DuBro is very knowledgeable and approachable and is able to convey ideas with great clarity. I'm a much better writer and it helps in other classes. Take her class! (She's also very attractive, if that matters to you)
Set ready to read every night. She assigns a lot reading and gives pop quizzes on the reading which cannot be made up but so attendance is MANDATORY. She gives a mid-term and a final, a literature review paper (8 pages) along with a presentation, and a take home essay as part of the final. If you love literature you'll love her.
Pros -Clear in what she expects -Grades fairly -Provides good feedback on essays Cons(This took me a while to think of) -I didn't have many assignments available to boost my grade
Prof Dubro is soooo so nice and is very understanding. The work load is bearable and she will answer any questions you ever have. She is extremely nice and I will take her class again in a heartbeat.
She is a very nice professor but for her work & grading criteria is tough, does not give extra credit or anything she makes you work for the grade. Lots of essays and participation matters, if you miss an assignment your done, & she does not do late work. Not an easy A class but if you really challenged yourself & work hard you can get at least a B
Look, if you don't put in effort, don't expect to do well. Attendance matters, so show up and on time. Material isn't that interesting, but she makes it engaging. Go to office hours to go over assignments; your grade will benefit. She is respectful and wants you to succeed. Do all of the homework and ask for help on assignments and you'll be fine.
Attendance is mandatory cannot miss more than 6 classes. Papers are fairly easy if you put effort, lectures are related to the assignments. Online quizzes were due weekly but very easy. She will give you the same grade every time unless you show improvements on the assigned papers. Fun personality, willing to work with you.
Sweet professor and you must show up to class! Has about 4-5 writing assignments for the semester, must do them on time to receive credit. Overall, I had a great time in this class with no stress (unless you do essays last minute the night before) I recommend Professor Dubro, she is great.
Professor Dubro is excellent. She wants you to succeed. I learned a lot from her class
It seems that any native english speaker should be able to get an A in this class if they're willing to put a little time and effort in. Looks for overall themes in writing, and doesn't nitpick too much with minor things. Only one timed paper. The homework load is reasonable. The most important thing seemed to be learning how to use MLA citation.
This was a hybrid class combined with ENG111. SDV is a class where you should get an A if you do all the assignments, it met that expectation. It was taught well, there was an appropriate level of work required for the 1 credit it is worth. The quizzes were super easy, the other assignments didn't take long at all.
Professor Dubro is wonderful! But don't take her if your aren't great at writing and test taking. She give students a tolerable amount of homework that is manageable for someone who works alot. She does make you read, but the readings goes by so fast. The only problem is every single assignment counts, and you can't risk doing bad.
Professor DuBro is an alright professor. She REALLY cares about class attendance and participation. Only 3 papers to write which is manageable. My one problem with her is that some of the lectures are incredibly repetitive (going over in-text citations and annotated bibs multiple times). Tried to fill up lecture time with worthless activities.
I really enjoyed Prof. Dubro, it wasn't a perfect class but I definitely learned a lot. Super writing heavy, and if you're planning on taking African American Lit, you're going to read a lot about slavery. I would take her again though, she's definitely very smart and approachable. There's also field trips in the class I took!
Professor DuBro - - is smart and personable. - wants to see you do as well as you personally can. - expects good writing in an ENG class (Believe it or not). - is a somewhat slow grader. - grades hard but gives good, clear feedback on assignments.
She gave 3 papers during the semester, one of them being in class. Used the textbook often, but could've done with out it.
Professor Dubro is kind but do NOT take this class if youre looking for an easy A. she is a very tough grader and you have to work really hard and go to office hours often to get the A. if you dont show up, youll miss a lot and she has a grade based on your participation at the end of the semester and its worth a good percent of your grade.
She Is a wonderful professor!!!
Worst teacher at nova. She makes me feel uncomfortable and never cares for student. She only goes by her schedule that she writes down and will not change it. If some thing were to come up then she will make everything due in one day to get the schedule back in order. Lots of test, reading, essay.
I love Dr. Professor Dubro. Shes the best english teacher I ever had and the easiest to understand. She tells you what she wants from your papers in her lectures. If you have a question you might have to ask it a couple times because her answers are kind of roundaboutty in class but you can go after and shes there. barley homework, no book needed.
Professor Dubro was amazing. I took her online ENG 111 six week course this summer and although it was a lot of work (regular 15 week course condensed into 6 weeks what do you expect) it was manageable if you planned out your time accordingly. She gave great feedback on all my assignments and responded to emails quickly. She cares about students.
I took her online class and she was always kind of rude about how the class was online like girl were in a pandemic... anyways I got 100% on all quizzes and tests but she always would grade essays and discussions so harshly for no reason and was never understanding ever. I had a 4.0 and straight As before this class and I'm finishing with an 87%
A bit sassy, but only because people don't pay attention in class. Tons of work to do so make sure to read instructions thoroughly and finish assignments before the due date cause they're time consuming.
Super tough grader. The learning activities have proved to be contradictory as they do not help with learning whatsoever. She is a nice lady but a bad professor. It feels as if she wants her students to fail and I am completing tasks like a monkey rather than furthering my understanding in English.
Super nice and will give helpful feedback!
