THE best music teacher at BSC. Even though she wants you to practice a lot, she knows her stuff and is willing to talk to you if you need help. Highly recommend!
She's a wicked nice lady! Very willing to help you out. Loves what she does. I reccomend her for a piano teacher.

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD
Feminist! Rude! Ridiculous tests for a ridiculous class! Felt sorry for the 1 male that was able to stick it out for the rest of the semester...prob. the worst class I've ever been subjected to.

The class was interesting and well organized. My major gripe would be that she has no sense of humor unless she is attempting. She should also be more clear in some paper assignments on what she means as woman composers. I would think to include conte
very well organized and structured...didn't receive the grade i was hoping for, but learned much from her.
she sucked ****! i hated her and dropped out of class the first week. she is a nut and wants all girls to cut their nails because she doesnt like the sound of them tapping on the keys! issues!
awful
Laugh! Your face will not crack! I promise. Calls a paper "careless" if there is even one typo.
PLEASE dont get me started on this woman...this was supposed to be an introductary class and she made it seem like we were all supposed to be famous musicians. She was also SUCH a SOUR PUSS...DO NOT TAKE HER
This class was possibly the worst I have ever been able to sit through. She always go right to the last minute and lectures without a sense of humor as previously pointed out. Opt for another teacher if you can - SAVE YOURSELF!!!!
She was with no doubt very hard, and humorless, but i can say w/ confidence that i know all there is to know about the piano! The class is hard to sit through but its worth taking if you are serious about learning how to play!
SHe is very well organized and loves music. But she will expect you to read her mind or the right answers. Hopfully your clarivoyant!! You'll learn a lot but she is the Hitler of the department and will grade you that way!!Hail Kreiling!!
The worst teacher I have ever had. Extremely unfair and unwilling to help if you do not understand. Makes you feel dumb by comments she will say to you in front of the class. DO NOT TAKE HER!
She is a very difficult teacher, who grades very harshly, especially on her papers. Her classes are semi-interesting, she is not very entertaining she tries to make jokes that end up with complete silence, I’m taking crickets here. If you can avoid her, d
challenging, but very interesting. one of the few courses where studying is NECESSARY because those tests are brutal!
Is very strict and precise about EVERYTHING. Expects a lot for a GER; you SHOULD have a music background before taking one of her classes, even though it doesn't say so. I have music background, and felt bad for those who didn't. EXTREMELY strict grader.
Unless you are going to major in Music and have a music background -- DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Expects perfection and hours of practicing. TOO MUCH WORK FOR A GER!!!!!
Very difficult, but she knows her stuff and although this is one of the more difficlut classes I have taken, I have learned the most from her class. I think if you are a good student, you'll do fine.
overall, i would say DONT TAKE HER, very unorganized and you learn the life history of every composor, but not tested on it, waste of space, and if its womens composers, no need to talk about men!!!
absolutley horrible. She will put you on the spot, if you do not know the answer she will continue to put you on the spot until you do. She expects way to much for a GER. She is VERY unfair in her grading.

I wish all of my professors were as organized and prepared as she is for each class. There's no way to hide what you didn't study for with her tests and papers- she is not an easy grader! Enjoyed her classes.
Teaches piano class well, if you don't want to spend time practicing you should not take this class, that said, you should not take piano with anyone if you have no desire to practice.
One word: Sabaticcal...as in, please take one NOW. Frustrated by beginning students. Do not take this class unless you are committed to PIANO. Nice person; should take a break from teaching (beginners especially).
Worst teacher I ever had, hard tests and does not help you if you need extra help.
the most horrible teacher ive ever had. do not recomend her to take ever for any thing. no type of liniency at all . suucked
at first i really didn't like her. and for the most part, i still don't. she's mean. but as for teaching, she is wonderful. i take detailed notes and ace her tests. he quizzes and papers are another story. as for the papers, she has a phd in english as well as music. tough stuff!!!
A real hard ass prof. Do not take this class for fun, you will not have ANY. You will not appreciate music after this class. You will just be glad you don't have to go to this class ever again.

I don't agree at all. Jean is one of the most brilliant professor i have ever had the privilege of meeting. I think you are just jealous because she is smart, talented and attractive!
Two words... Awe-inspiring.
Horrible is all i can say. such a boring lady and she is so mean. i can barely sit through the class and it is way to detailed and hard for a ger! dont take n e classes with her ever!
What an awful class. She only thinks of spelling and punctuation. Would make a really good librarian.
TERRIBLE! Extremely unclear. When I asked for help she made it clear that I was taking up "her" time. Extremely difficult professor. DONT TAKE HER!
Hard grader, more concerned with grammar and spelling than anything else on the essays. take very good notes and pay attention and you will get through it. having any type of background in music will definately help. I played an instrument in HS so i was fine but for a GER for someone with no musical background it will be a challenge.

not an easy class. tough grader. not too much out of class work, strict.
do NOT take this class-or her! well unless you are Mozart.... expects you to know as much as she does, real mean, strict, feels like you are back in middle school...and I stress, MEAN. don't be fooled.
nice lady. Do not recomend class unless you want to be music major. All you do is listen to classical and opera music.. it gets boring...
she is a very nice lady, she will help you when you ask. her homeworks are hard but very infrequent. tests are also difficult and you MUST STUDY FOR HOURS. but overall i learned a lot in this class and would take it again.
Class is far too difficult for liberal arts college, level of difficulty is the same as it would be at a conservatory, which the BSC Music Dept is not. Would've been better if she just focused on main ideas instead of giving you 40 new vocab words and composers every class
Do Not recommend this class to anyone who wants a free ride. This is supposed to be a GER course and she acted like we were music majors! Her tests are very very hard. Shes pretty nice. But the class is sooooo boring!!!
This prof is terrible. She's an elitist snob who can't make it in the real world. She teaches a general elective at a technical level when the course guide states that the course is designed for students with no prior music experience.
She's very reasonable and very nice. If you'd like to learn something about music, then I recommend taking her classes. They are both challenging and rewarding.
dr kreiling is a very nice lady. she expects a lot from her students. her tests are straight foreward and there are no surprises with them. study and ou will do fine. her homework is hard but you only get 3 assignments a year that you need to pass in.
second yr seminar- wow this ladys class is soooo boring, she is hardly EVER absent, and there is alot of work involved in class, this ones a sleeper. Tests are a pain and papers are 5 pages but particular..not a free ride at ALL
Dr. Kreiling gives clear, organized lectures, and is fantastic about class discussion. Very open to questions and comments! Take the writing assignments seriously... she will notice every grammar mistake, and she sees right through any b.s. in a paper. You can tell she loves the subject... very much enjoying her class.
She is a very nice lady. As long as you e-mail her and let her know that you are going to be out of class she will excuse you. Her tests are not difficult and her lectures are interesting. The only bad thing about her is that she grades papers way too hard especially since she is a music teacher.
I love Dr. Kreiling. She is an awesome professor. Her tests are hard and so are her papers, but I learned more in one semester with her than in all of my other classes combined. Shes the****!
She's a nice lady but she is not good at writing things on the board. The things she teaches in class are boring as well as confusing. she doesnt explain key terms enough to put them in notes. when she assigned homework or essay's they were ridiculous. She'd want us to write six pages on only a few terms. I dont want this professor again.
Professor Kreiling was extremely difficult. The class went at a really fast pace and unless you're a music major, you'll hate this class!! She is understanding if you miss a class as long as you tell her in advance. Definitely don't take this class if you are simply trying to gind a GER.
I was a jazz musician for 5 years and I went in expecting it to be an easy A. This woman stumbled over everything and made the other students even more confused than they should have been. She was extremely rude and bi*chy to the students. I was so disgusted I had to drop the class. Not worth the credits
I think she's awesome. Dr Kreiling is easily my fave prof this semester. She expects a lot but gives a lot, has a real passion for music and a gift for crystal clear explanation of even the obscure and tedious. I've come out of her class really, really knowing my stuff. If you want an easy ride avoid her but if you really want to LEARN and are willing to put in the effort she IS the absolute aces!
Dr. Kreiling Rocks
As a music major I thought the class was very easy. I saw non-musical students struggling but Dr. Kreiling makes every attempt to help you learn. You will participate every day in class and just let her know if you don't understand something; she will take the time to make sure you understand. You use the book every day in class and for homework.
Dr. Kreiling has been my fav. music professor for 4 years. She is extremely helpful and wants her students to do well. She is an exquisite teacher. Her classes are mostly lecture thus you must do your own studying and preparation. This is college people, its supposed to be challenging. She is a very kind lady.
This class was a nightmare! Quite difficult and she loses her patience easily. NOT AN EASY A! Take this course if you love music but consider a different teacher.
knowlegeable and you will learn but very tough, I've taken other music classes without a problem and I was averaging a's and b's, not her class. other students i know have taken her also averaging a's and b's have failed. very serious - doesn't allow her humanity to show and offers very little personal help
Dr. Kreiling is a smart woman, but she stands and lectures the entire class. There's so many other ways that she could bring this exciting subject matter to life. She's definitely not personable! I worked very hard in this class and still got a B. The question is...does she want her students to succeed?
MUSC of SEA seminar: If you are not a music major or have no interest in it, don't take the class. I liked music in H.S. but this class kills me. 4pg,5 pg,6pg paper comparing boring songs that is tedious and time consuming. not fun at all. You want to fall asleep during almost every class. Her quizzes are okay if you study a lot.
Aunt Jean is fun kind and college is suppossed to be hard. So there
Dr. Kreiling is awesome!!!!!
Great professor, explains the concepts so well that anyone who's not asleep should be able to understand them. I found the class (Music Fundamentals) easy, but it does introduce and reinforce many important aspects of musical notation and other concepts in music. If you've played piano before, you may be better off jumping right into a piano class.
I had Dr Kreiling for several classes, and as a resource post graduation. She is exactly what college is about. You have to WORK HARD for your grade whether music is your thing or not. If you study hard and work hard, you will EARN a grade. If you fail the class it is NOT because she did it to you. It's because you didn't put in the work!!!
This class is definitely not easy. It's very important that you show up because if you don't you will miss alot of things and then suffer from it the next class. Can't say I really enjoyed her or this class, you really have to be good being in the hot seat, and always do the homework if you don't want to feel like you're drowing.
This class stinks, I've taken piano for 8 years and I'm struggling. She confuses the hell out of everyone, myself included. She seems nice, but really puts people on the spot bad, and can be very belittling. She loves piano, just takes a GER class with beginners to an extreme. Avoid her if you can
I took piano for 10 years before stopping. I have not played for about 4 years prior to this class, and as an intro class I figured id breeze through. She takes an intro GER class way to seriously. Her style confused the hell out of me, so I only imagine what it did to everyone else. I got an A but it was not easy. She loves piano, but is to harsh
Great teacher! If you pay attention and do the homework you'll be fine. The class is a little stressful just because she calls on you all the time, but it really reinforces the information. Learned a lot in this class! Definitely hard, but worth it!
This professor was extremely rude to all of the students. She makes you feel stupid if you do not understand something or answer a question wrong. Class was very stressful and not worth the aggravation. DO NOT TAKE
STAY AWAY. This professor is very stern and makes you feel stupid. She calls on you all the time and puts you on the spot. If you don't do the homework she always has a rude remark to say. Attendance is mandatory. Never seen her even crack a smile either.
She expects too much from the students.
Nice professor, she really does make you work for the grade though. Tough when it comes to essays and grammar, to she has a degree in both music and English. Knows her stuff and makes her classes interesting. Overall, just be prepared to work really hard to earn a good grade in the class.
ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. She will put you on the spot, expect you to know the answer and if you don't expect to feel like ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. Most unhelpful teacher I've ever had. I WOULDN'T recommend her to anyone.
She is absolutely one of the greatest teachers in the music program. She comes to class well-prepared every time. She can be critical and it is only to help us become better writers and musicians. She is not a tough grader but a fair grader. Hard work will result in a good grade in her class. Music takes practice and dedication!
Avoid taking her! Rude to students and expects you to know everything about piano already. Puts students on spot and makes them feel stupid. Doesn't answer questions. Quizzes are hard and tests are also very hard. Wouldn't recommend her to anyone. I knew piano before taking this class and it ended up being my hardest class of the semester.
Dr. Kreiling is a nice person, but as a teacher, she isn't the greatest. I mean she definitely knows what she is talking about and is very knowledgeable but she expects students to grasp concepts immediately. All students learn at different rates, if one student didn't understand something, she would put them on the spot. I felt bad for them.
Worst teacher ever
Yes, her class is pretty difficult and she will call on you and put you on the spot. I see other reviews saying she calls on you and "makes you feel stupid". She calls on everyone! And a majority of time people are stumped, but that's kind of the point! You should try to learn so you know the answers next time you are called on. Practice practice!!
I took this as an elective. I've had her in the past. She truly cares about the art of music and expects her students to take it seriously and try in her classes. She can be a tough grader at times, but if you study and concentrate in her class you will do fine. Be ready though, she calls on students regularly to answer questions.
Lives up to reputation.
Dr. Kreiling is a very smart woman, and I grateful to be around intellectual professors. Regardless, her teaching strategies are mediocre at best. She does not know how to appeal to the student. Her attitude is rather scary and fake, it felt like she had a lot to say but kept it inside. I recommend not taking her if austerity is not your thing.
Avoid at all costs. If you feel you are slipping even a little bit, she will call you out and make you feel dumb. If you don't answer a question right she will badger you until you get it, it's embarrassing. Avoid, until I am blue in the face, avoid. She 100% lives up to the reputation of these reviews; heed the warning, it's no joke.
