Well, his homeworks are really hard, his test are hard, study the homeworks and problems in class, and you should be able to get a c for a test. Forget the final!! It is really hard, takes forever to do.

Not as bad as everyone says, I was forced to take him based on what i read here i wasnt very excited...However if you can live with doing all the examples in class he's easy to learn from. His tests always have some twist (if you think you got an A well you prob got a B, etc.)

Not a bad teacher. Really knows what he's talking about. Tests are impossible, so don't expect a good grade unless you can do everything perfectly. I think sometimes I can hear him curse Americans every time anyone asks a question...

Very Easy class. Minimal effort required. Go to class, pay attention, do the couple homeworks assigned, and you will come out with a solid B. Study a bit- and get an A.

Before taking this class I used this site to make my teacher selection. I finally selected him because of a personal recommendation. Everything is said on the site is more or less tru. He is pretty hard but if you follow his "PROCEDURE" it is easy to get a B or C. Not a spoon feeding professor that is why some of us do not like him.

This class is only 2 credits but there is work as a 3 credit course. Overall, good class

I avoided him for Dynamics based upon this site, bad move. He's a great teacher on some subjects, and mediocre on others. I've learned more about Dynamics from him than I learned in Dynamics, and he will go through an example until you understand it as long as you ask questions. He is great for heat transfer.

I thought I knew structures until I had this class. Good review from solid mechanics and a lot of Nastran...Good professor overall

I had him for Solids and Dynamics.He was awesome for Solids; definitely his strong point. Dynamics-not so much.Very unclear and disorganized for Dynamics. GREAT professor though. Not the nicest guy (kind of a jerk,really),but he gets the job done. And very reasonable.Hes one of those "more engineer than teacher" type of people.Recommend(for Solids)

Take him. He really knows Dynamics and i can tell you since I took the course before with another professor.

I took this course for the second time with him and made the subject much easier to understand. Professor Dhainaut teaches you a clear procedure for evaluating each type of problem, and if you follow closely to that procedure you will get a passing grade even if you don't get an answer.

I had the class before and it was darkness. He made it so clear that I am switching my major

Thanks God I had Professor Dhainaut. I finally understood Statics and Solid Mechanics in one class. A lot of finite element.

Do not believe bad comments. If you follow his procedure to solve the problem you get at least a B. If you do not follow the procedure course becomes very hard since his grading is harsh.

It is a very hard course. Dr. Dhainaut makes it very easy if you follow "his procedure" and follow his advises. Take him if you want a good understanding of the material and learn some NASTRAN. Do not take him if you just want to pass the course.

Class was difficult at the beginning of the semester but once you get use to his style it is easy. Only class I ever got an "A"

If you study the homework examples and the class examples, you will get an A on all the exams. Very straight forward teaching method. Just follow the procedures he teaches and show all work. He wants things done neatly, as points can be taken off for messy work. Office hours suck.

Dr Dhainaut taught me a way to study for all my classes and because I did follow his advises I am getting all A. Yes he can be harsh sometimes since he will not help you at all on a homework problem if you have not attempted to do it first.

Tough class. His lectures drag quite a bit. Sometimes it feels like he just wants to do the homework with you (after you've already handed it in) rather than actually teach you how to do it. I like him but he is definitely not the best professor for everyone. He only gives 3 tests including the final so keep that in mind always.

Straightforward professor, homework every week, tests are based on HW. Cares more about the process, knowledge of how to the problems work, than the actual grade. Easy A if you work and learn the material.

You need to work hard but if you learn procedure learnt in class it will help you for other courses.

I followed his procedure approach for other courses and did help me a lot. If you follow the procedure explained in class it is relatively easy but very difficult to get an A otherwise

If you pay attention during class, you will pass, and you will learn how to solve problems. His lecture is taught from memory. He knows what he is doing, and if you want to learn, pay attention.

I had Dr. Dhainaut for two courses this semester and I was impressed by his knowledge of the material. He will come to class with just a notepad and color pens was able to deliver great lectures. The problem solving procedure is very detailed and a big part of the grade

I could not understand the answer from solution manual but when Dr. Dhainaut did the same problem in class following the procedure it would look so easy. Like other comments from other students, he is all about learning the procedure for problem solving

Super knowledgeable in Thermodynamics. Only 2 midterms and a final (be careful here) plus about 8-12 homework assignments. His lectures are very good and he will do the homework problems in class if you ask him . Not the most personable guy but he did make us chuckle from time to time. Overall, great prof whom I would 100% take again.

Took class during COVID but instructor provided amazing videos with pdf of lectures. Like his teaching style but it is not for everyone. He cares about how you get to the answer and not about if the final result is correct or not.

He definitely knows his stuff. Comes with class no notes but he is able to give amazing lectures and solve any problem presented to him. Wish all teachers were like him.

Most difficult I had so far but it was very inspirational. Now I know what I want to do. Long homework and solution manuals do not help at all. Be ready to work to get a good grade

He is very much about the process. If you do not solve it with the specific steps that he outlines, then you won't do well on tests or homework. The lecture is all the material you will need, and he is very thorough. Although the grading was very test heavy (Exam 1--40%, Exam 2--50%, Homework--10%), I actually feel like I learned something.

Lectures consist of a few days of introducing a new concept, and then spending a lot of time doing example problems. He definitely knows his stuff and understands that thermo can be a struggle for a lot of people. There is a good amount of homework but using the tables and equations takes a lot of practice, so it helps to take your time on them.

At the beginning I did not like his teaching style but after a while I understood that for him the process was more important than the actual results. He is extremely smart because he is able to solve any problem in the textbook always following the same procedure.

His teaching style is very unique and can be very confusing, but he is a very lenient grader. He will answer any questions you have in class. The tests are brutal, especially the final, but if you can pay attention and understand the way he teaches, you will be fine.

Professor Dhainaut has a very good structure for how he runs the class, however I believe the assignments should be better organized. It was often difficult to work on the assignments at the same pace as the lectures as they would either be scattered in a different order from the lectures. I do like how the assignments were accessible online.

For sure the most difficult course so far. Lots of material covered in detail with clear examples. Python programming required that I personally enjoyed but most people did not. Class requires a lot of work

Great class with a lot of mathematics that are very interesting and difficult but not sure if of great use outside academics. Dr. Dhainaut is very knowledgeable and caring.

This is really a Math course. Review of Calculus II, Calculus III and Differential equation but on the hard side. Professor Dhainaut is good just which more time was spent in numerical methods.

He genuinely tries to make sure everyone in his class has the tools to pass,but he needs to see you put in effort. His lectures are very well organized and he uploads them to canvas.He doesn't make attendance mandatory but if a majority of the class doesn't show up he will create an attendance assignment,everyone that doesn't show won't get points.

JMD is awesome! I thought I was going to bomb strucs 2 going in, but he made the lectures clear (recorded it too). He even gave back partial credit where it was due on exams.

I took this class a year ago and at the time. The professor is definitely tough and demands a lot of work, this is not a class where you can get by with minimal effort. However, looking back now, especially in my current job, I realized just how valuable the material I learned truly is.

I personally liked his style of teaching, as he would explain things as if we had never seen any dynamics before, but i can see why it's not for everyone. Attendance was not mandatory, so I slacked off, which I do not recommend, but you would still be fine. I'm confident I could've received a higher grade if I put in more effort.

A very straightforward professor. If you follow his methods, you will succeed in his class. He maintains a strong balance between conceptual understanding and practical application of the material. I highly recommend him.

He is knowledgeable and patient, records lectures, and reuses homework. Provided many in-class examples (many with errors), but the homework did not always reflect them. Memorize his methods, and you will pass. The only downside is that he did not teach FEMAP but requires a project on it, so utilize his videos and find other sources.

He may not be the warmest person, but he is an excellent professor. His grading is strict, yet if you visit his office, he will sit with you and explain everything in detail. This ended up being my only B in graduate school.
