gives good notes and past exams, but you will have to learn a lot on your own
Nice enough lady, but very unclear and unhelpful professor.
Nice prof. Tough to learn accting during summer. Could have been better.
Great teacher!
Nice prof, helpful notes and examples

Very nice prof. Gives great notes and examples.
needs to learn english
Sit in the front row or your not going to hear her!
Not very good at english, has bad writing...read the book.
she knows her stuff, and is helpful if you ask, but ya need whisper 2000 in class to hear her. bit of a language barrier as well...just read the text.
A little hard to hear. Very nice and a little goofy. Classes are a bit dry but she knows what she's talking about.
Overall a good teacher. Gave very clear notes
Nice teacher but classes are pretty dull. Only final exams a little difficult.
Nice prof, gives all meaterial necessary, although I was side swipped by the final
Gave thorough explanations of material, just need to sit close enough to hear.
Very nice prof, easier explanations, difficult course but made it clear
Worst professor ever.
i can not understand ever a word worse worse
Can't understand what this woman is saying
horrible horrible horrible. she needs to talk ENGLISH and stock talking as if she has something stuck up her a55.
Not a good prof. Bad english, not clear, and seems like a very unfriendly and grumpy person in general. Avoid her.
keeping confused in her class~! |o|
very good teacher, very nice and very helpful
Good Teacher, Does lots of examples that are helpful
very nice to individuals, although have difficulties on language, but a nice pro.
Do the questions that are in the notes before class. I had a hard time listening to/ understanding her explanations, however, she explains things well via email. She's really nice though! if you sit near the front, she'll talk to you lots.
Managerial Accounting is a hard course no matter who you take it with. However, Ms. Pai is a wonderful help to getting a good mark in the course. she will always be there to help you when you need it, and is very friendly and responsive in class.
Pai is an awesome prof! If you are really interested in acctg she is always there to help. She is a VERY fair marker, and I wish she taught more courses.
Although her voice might be a little hard to understand, shes an excellent prof.
She is always in a bitter mood, thinks her class is the only class we have, isn't clear, notes are terrible, and hard to understand because "SHE CANT SPEAK ENGLISH". It's like trying to talk to a broken drive through speaker. Avoid this prof. U of M should be ashamed that they let this woman teach

She is disaster! Most of the times I've read the the book before the class & solved some of homework. It seemed to me that I undesrtood the material. In the classe she confused me so much with her terrible teaching that after the class I wasn't sure about anything in the subject anymore.
Impossible to understand.
Always nice and friendly when you talk to her after class. I'm not sure what some people here are talking about, but her notes are very helpful. Especially when it comes to writing the 5 tests. My only complaint is that the final was way too difficult, but this is the Department's fault; not hers.
I like her. I think she is a good prof and fair with grads
i like this professor very much
she is very good professor with clear notes and usful lecture
great profe.although sometimes her explanation is not clear, exams are easy. take 9.201 with her!
She is very enthusiastic, and loves to give real life examples which makes this course easier to understand. She is very lenient and fair on the marking, and she has really good notes.
She's a very understanding person and seems to care about her students when the excuss is valid. Not very clear in her teaching style and hard to understand.
Class was terribly boring, which is to be expected of accounting I guess. She was hard to hear and understand at moments which brought added frusration. I went to her office once to pick up a test and was very scared of her after that moment. I think she dislikes you if you skip alot of class. My recommendation would be no dice.
Worst prof ever, her English was atrocious and she is not approachable after class. She doesn't understand the notion of students being unable to understand certain course material. She also provides poor exam reviews.
so bad
I liked her. She is very willing to meet with you outside of class time. She's funny and nice. Class material is very tough, I thought. Exam was terribly hard!!
She doesn't care about the students actual grades
Overall a bad lecturer
tough exam! she put acctg major class average level at D which should be B level. avoid to choose her class! boring! and unclear!!! and difficult exam!!!
Always willing to help outside of class and is very approachable. During finals she had full days of office hours where most profs just kept their regular hours (1 hour twice a week).
difficult to understand. knows the material well but is not good at explaining it clearly.
Worst prof i've ever seen, run as fast as you can to get away from any course taught by her. Her english is not the worst I've heard but its close, she doesn't actual lecture at all but she just starts asking questions in class. When no1 answers she just says saying "HELLO" over and over and lectures about how being prepared for class is important
Lectures aren't always clear, but she is very approachable and helpful outside of class. She has a different style of teaching, but she goes over many practice example questions in class which is good.
avoid at all cost
shes not a bad prof at all. shes willing to help and explains things the best she can. shes willing to go in depth for anything you dont understand. its a hard CLASS, thats not her fault. her accent doesnt get in the way at all. if you dont understand, ask her.. shes more than willing to help. if you dont pass, its ur fault for not studying enough.
Intro to Financial Accounting. she wasn't the worst, but not outstanding. pretty helpful outside class. her lectures weren't the greatest. quite boring. her quizes weren't all that hard. i don't think she was all that bad, it was just that the course makes your work at it. i had to keep doing suggested homework to understand how to do stuff.
Worst accounting prof...whips through examples and gives you the answers without teaching you why. Had a very hard time learning anything because you can barely keep up copying what she is writing. The textbook is your teacher.
Not as dreadful as many make her out to be. Examples/notes are often poor, but Pai's exams are based largely off textbook questions. Also the nicest prof outside of class
Not an easy course, but if you read at home and come to class and listen, and then solve practice problems you will be fine. Professor is very helpful and friendly outside. Although the subject is boring she did keep me alert in class. Recommend!
Absolutely dreadful. Notes are convoluted, unnecessarily long, confusing and impede understanding. Her explanations are unclear. Midterm is a joke, final is murder. As an A student and an accounting major, I can't believe she is a member of this faculty. Avoid if possible. Problem is that it likely won't be possible to avoid her completely.
unnecessary and long notes, midterm is ok, but terrible final. 3-hour final just has 3 questions, but the problem is two long answer questions are unbelieveable hard. i got a B, but actually put even more than A 's effort.
Know your stuff before asking prof. textbook is garbage, textbook is extremely vague and sometimes doesn't bother to give an explaination why certain journal entries are made. The authors are horrible!!!!! Don't sell your Financial textbook
Dont take a class with her if you have the option of taking it with someone else. Enough said.
I had the lowest mark in my academic history with this prof, and I'm an A student, studied for this class as hard as all my others, got a B. This goes to show even in the Asper school on it's high mount, is false, ergo, Jean Pai.
Took this class last semester. Got an A without going to class, just studied the text book. Don't listen to these other comments. The material being tested was basically right out of the text. No tricks on mid-term or final. Not the greatest prof, but mid-term and final were easy. If you think this class is hard, your simply not cut out for acct
Doesn't deserve the bashing she gets on here, while the class pace could benefit from being a bit slower, she makes up for it with comprehensive notes and accessibility outside of class. Extremely approachable. As long as you cover her notes and read the textbook (and try practice problems), there's no reason you can't do well in this class.
Difficult course but if u do all assigned homework, you will be fine.Midterms are easy but final is hard. No A+ for the course because she does not curve the grades.
She is an O.K. prof. her lectures can get boring but you really need to understand the chapter and do the HW prior to coming to class. exams are tough but fair. study everything. tough course. C+ for prof..
Really nice outside of class but should not be teaching. talks very quiet and repeats herself a bunch of times when writing out solutions. avoid if possible, although if your an acc major this will be difficult.
Nice lady. Always willing to help outside of class. Lectures consist of doing relevant practice problems. Reading textbook and doing all assigned problems is essential to do well. Exams are fair (fair does not mean easy). Expect to work hard to get a good grade.
Nice person but horrible teacher. Hard to follow her in class. Exams are tough. You can't predict what she will test you on.
Pai is a good prof in that she knows her stuff, and her exams are tough (like any other acc course) but fair. The big draw back is that her heavy accent makes it difficult to follow her in class. Being in Asper, foreign accents are not new, but Pai's mumbling and heavy accent make it difficult to comprehend. She doesn't curve, so A+ needs hard work
This professor subbed at another University for us, while our prof was away. It was absolutely awful. Her writing is at times illegible, her accent is heavy, her teaching is all over the place. She does try to be helpful, but I did not find her teaching that great.
Great teacher. Has super organized detailed notes (yes she was a little repetitive but you don't have to write it down twice). I didn't find her accent that bad? Pai was funny and friendly. She also went around the room looking over your work, which was really helpful. Exams were fair.
Pai is a great prof. The reasoning for her courses being difficult and challenging is to add worth to our degrees. If it were easy, anyone could do it. If you're planning on completing a designation in accounting you'll thank her later.
Not as bad as everyone complains about. She doesn't teach you the accounting, you have to teach yourself. People dont understand this and thats why they fail. Pai's exams are tough but fair, do your homework, go to class, dont cram and you will eventually understand it. Ask her if you dont get something she's very personal.
best accounting professor in the Asper. If you read the textbook and do all the assigned homework, you will be fine.
Assets is a very difficult course for sure. Pai doesn't do a very good job because she speaks quietly and mumbles often. Her accent doesn't help either. Overall I'd say she is okay but I will try to avoid her again for Equities.
She relys on the class notes a little too much. If you didn't read the material before attending class, you'll surely be lost with her in this course.
Just finished final exam today. Avoid this teacher if possible. Her teaching style is to write out answers to questions. Class mid-term average was 45%. The number speaks for itself. In addition, she mumbles and her accent makes understanding of the subject matter difficult.
equities is a hard class. you cant just go to class and not study untill 3 days before the exam and expect to pass. this is accounting. do the homework and study the class notes and you will be fine with pai. good prof listen what she has to say in class and you will be ahead of half the class
It's true that Pai has a thick accent and mumbles, goes quickly through notes and expects you to learn the material before class...but she is probably one of the best profs in acc if not all of Asper. She actually adds value to the class by not just teaching the material, but by going over harder questions and explaining theory. Rare gem.
Very helpful if you have made any effort to understand the material on your own by reading the textbook. Very nice. Cares about her students. Good sense of humour. Really knows her stuff, and great at encouraging students to think for themselves.
Exams only have surprises if you haven't done the work. If you've done all the end of chapter questions and attended class, you're golden. Plus, Pai is awesome! If you can't handle an accent, asper isn't for you. You need to know your stuff before you come to class.
jean pai is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than robert biscontri. Her exams do not have as much surprises. Her class notes explains a lot of theory along with the solution so if you ever get stuck you can refer to the theory to get you through it. Overall, one of the best profs i've had at asper.
Jean is a great professor! If you go to class, do the practice questions assigned and do keep up with your reading you will do fine! Her exams are fair and test what she has taught you in class, no unexpected surprises if you have prepared!
Accent can take some time to get adjusted to. She's a very cheerful lady. Go to class AND LABS they will help. Ask her questions after class hours, she's helpful. The best thing about her is that she wants you to succeed. Exams aren't too difficult, has some curveballs , but don't count for too many marks. Invest time in this = Atleast B
Didn't like her lectures, boring, she should engage the class more and allow them to answer some questions instead of her answering all of them. Didn't really get anything valuable out of lectures however exams were ok and she was helpful and available for office hours. Had a bad lab teacher but came out alright. Not the worst but not the best.
Very tough grader, she does not curve like other accounting professors. Our class average was 55% on the midterm and that was equal to CC+. Her tests are pointlessly difficult and tests on materials that are barely covered in class. A lot of self study is expected. Work hard and you might get a B.
Her accent is not that bad, but I can barely read her writing. Well, ACC is never easy thing to do. Exam is hard but fair.
She knows her material but her classes can be quite confusing. You need the text book or davids tutoring to help you understand some stuff. Overall she is great but VERY tough grader.
I really enjoyed her as a professor, she is willing to answer any questions you have outside of class and is very friendly, just pay attention in class, understand the material, and do practice problems and you should do great!
She's a bit confusing but once you get past her accent and pay attention in her classes you'll do great. Just make sure you do the assigned problems, keep up with the material. She's very accessible and her sample exams are pretty close to the real exam. Nice prof but you gotta put in work.
She gives sample exams that are very close to the real exams, tells you exactly what types of questions to study, provides a clear breakdown of what you need to know for exams, and the final wasn't cumulative. I don't know what else you could ask for. Obviously you need to put in work to get a good grade but that's the same in every acc. course.
She is fine, except for the exams are really really hard. She's helpful, strict, and the group work is hard. She marks on curve very strict, and make you work really hard for it. Overall, she is OK. Exams are not the same as what you have practiced from textbook or in class, so best of luck, get prepared.
Not the best proff. Her teaching style is not that great, not very clear in explaining concept, you will have to relearn concepts on your own. But she is a nice person.
Great prof! Do the work and you will be rewarded.
Nice lady. Bad prof. Midterm was on the harder side of fair, final was out of left field and no one knew what to do. You will end up having to teach yourself most of this course.
Took Assets with her and it was the easiest class I've ever taken. Material was taught well and the final had no curveballs in it. Great Class!
Jean is a very nice person, however, she is hard to understand sometimes which makes it hard to keep focus. I learned the course through the textbook, also the labs don't have attendance marks, plus they only go over textbook questions. Just do the recommended textbook questions and read over the chapters if you take accounting with her.
This class is going to be challenging no matter who your professor is. She does have a thick accent, but she is still understandable. She moves quickly so it helps to print off her power point slides instead of trying to write everything down. You have to do the work and study hard for any chance of getting a good mark
The class was an easy A. The group projects are a free 9/10 % with no effort needed, along with the free 10% from online assignments. The labs are pretty pointless, so as long as you spend 50% of the actual class paying attention, you should be able to skip them. If you do poorly on the mid-term, it is easy to use the final to bump up your mark.
Online accounting courses with Jean are a nightmare.
Online accounting is extremely straightforward. Simply read and understand the textbook. The outline and direction she gives as to what to read is sufficient to be able to learn on your own. She supplies midterm/final that is exactly like the real thing. Course is 100% curved, but the midterm/final averages around a 60%. So not hard to get an A.
Jean is really nice but she talks quietly and can be tough to follow. Overall her lectures could be worse but they are far from good. She won't make the course tougher than it is but she also wont make it easier for you.
Jean knows the content very well. If you talk to her one-on-one, she can explain it from different angles. She's quieter, but I sat in the middle rows & had no problem hearing her. She is sarcastic which I found really funny. Exams are tough (tests some practice q's) but I find it easier to get an A with her than with other profs due to the curve.
Jean Pai goes through material fast and doesn't really go into depth or post class notes. Online assignments and group work are easy, but exams are very difficult. She tells you what types of questions are on them, but I would recommend a lot of additional self-study or David's Tutoring; a thorough understanding of the material is needed to get by.
There is not much logic to follow in her lectures so its easy to lose focus. She loves cracking jokes to get students attention but it only upsets people who already have a hard time understanding her logic. Lectures do not facilitate note taking, and her slides are full of words instead of being concise.
She will tell the class the course is easy (this is all there is to it!)and you dont need to read the textbook. In fact, textbook is the only friend in this course since there is not much logic to follow in her lectures. She also has difficulties understanding students questions.
literally just expected students to learn all the technical stuff in her INTRO classes. All her answers were posted on the slides so you're too busy writing down the answers while she goess off on her explanation that no one hears since she's too quiet. just the textbook and the TA helped me.
Went to class for the first half of the semester and realized I was not learning a single thing from her lectures.. speaks too quietly and is all over the place. I learnt everything I needed to know from the textbook and slides but don't waste your time with the class it was only helpful when knowing what ex. to use for the group project
I like her as a person, but as a prof she cannot teach at all. You spend more time trying to copy down her answers (which she can't even explain properly) than you do actually learning anything . She is all over the place, and the multiple choice on tests are time consuming because they can make you do extensive calculations for just one point.
Knowledgeable with a good background, but no teaching skills. Her biggest problems are her lack of engagement and poor English. With her use of English, the biggest problem is not her accent, but poor grammar making her meaning hard to follow, thus class is useless to go to (I went to them all, so I know). DO THE ASSIGNED Qs and you'll do well.
She is really nice and I found her class fairly easy if you put in the effort. She is really quiet so its better if you sit in the front rows
You will find this course more difficult if you go to her classes... Just study on your own and practice as much as you can... She will be there to answer your question though. She's knowledgeable enough but makes it difficult for students to understand her
Financial Accounting with her was very tough. The lectures didn't help much and were dry. But since it's a hard class I still recommend going to the lectures/labs. To do well you need to practice the hardest practice questions and put in a lot of time from early on. This class is a lot of work and is challenging, but doable if you work really hard.
