Started my first semester with this guy for chem of soln and it was hell. You prob wont understand anything in class and each units is like 200 slides of notes. Known to be the worst chem teacher in department. Hard tests and finals exam:( avoid this guy
High expectations, specifically on labs. Lots of notes but they are helpful on the tests. To do well in his class and on tests, you actually have to understand the material. Tough teacher, but will help you understand chemistry.
Good teacher. I found his lectures to be extremely clear, and although at first, he might seem hard to approach, he really isn't. However, if chem isn't ur strong suit, i dont recommend him because his tests are really difficult and require a full understanding of the material. Otherwise, go for it and take him, you'll find his class enlightening.
He teaches more than the required material. If you really like chem, you can go for it. But his tests are really hard and require full understanding. He is pretty strict but really knows what he's talking about. This semester he was absent from school the day before our Unit test and the day before the final. So he's not really accessible.
very bad at explaining. DO NOT get him for a teacher, he's one of the worst teachers i've ever gotten. he expects you to know stuff you haven't even learned in class. my grades literally depended on the labs, because everything else from his class was badly explained and taught!!
This teacher is condescending to all his students, gives super hard tests with averages in the 50's, expects us to know everything like we have been studying chemistry for years, and refuses to give practice problems as it's "a waste of his time." Do not choose this teacher, or if you get put into his class, drop it asap. Had to take an incomplete.
Lets just get one thing clear. DO. NOT. TAKE. THIS. CLASS. He doesnt teach, he preaches and expects you to know it all already. When asked to clarify items from the lectures he often responds Just trust me. Im a chemist. He talks down to you like youre some kindergartener and does not put in any effort to the class. DONT TAKE HIS CLASSES.
Don't take this mans class if you have the choice. Tests were extremely difficult and he doesn't give anywhere close to the amount of time students should receive to take them, sometimes he just puts topics he covered for thirty seconds in class on the tests and they're almost half the marks on the test. Lectures are terrible too Tells doesnt teach
Drop while you can. Just awful.
Condescending, talks about concepts instead of teaching them, expects we already know material before he teaches it. Test class averages so far this semester are all fails. Drop if you can!
Having this teacher online was very difficult. His notes consist of a very long PowerPoint and often are vague and not very detailed. He goes through topics very quickly and doesnt provide thorough explanations when people ask questions. Unit tests are difficult, weekly quizzes. Must read the textbook and use external sources to be test ready
Difficult teacher, get ready to put in crazy amounts of work and effort in order to pass with this guy. Quizzes every week, which are honestly super helpful to keep up with the material and very difficult tests. He doesn't base his tests on practice questions so it usually feels like the material on the test is things we haven't yet seen.
His lectures are designed for people who already excel in chemistry and don't have any difficulties. The only reason why you would want the guy is if you are extremely talented in chemistry because you can expect a very low-class average enabling good R score opportunities. Be ready to hear his famous catchphrase: "Trust me I'm a chemist".
A lot of people are scared of him, but honestly I've taken him twice and he's lovely. His Lab sessions are a laugh and he's always very reasonable if you do things wrong.
Loads of people blame their bad grades on him, but really its their own fault. I took him twice and have no regrets.
He is by far my favourite teacher I had at JAC. He tells awesome stories and jokes. If you talk to him during labs he is actually super helpful. His lectures are super interesting and he if you participate you'll have a great time. He is a lovable man that deserves the best.
Don't be afraid to speak with him, he's really nice and will explain the topic until you understand. You need to be able to have self discipline and stay on top of your work, he won't chase you around for nonsubmitted work. The class goes by quickly so don't skip or you'll be lost and if you do miss a class, make sure you go speak with him.
this guy is very nice and helpful in the laboratory but his teaching style is very difficult to follow and he does not explain the material very extensively. He just breezes through the subjects and his test questions are always much harder than the practices.
He's honestly pretty rude and his tests are really hard compared to his quizzes. His quizzes are almost every week, but the questions on the quiz are almost identical to practice questions so it can be easy to get a good grade. His tests on the other hand, are so much harder and practice questions are rarely provided so you're left floundering.
JMR has very high expectations. His notes are decent, but you need to have a perfect understanding of the subject to get good grades. He seems kind of scary at first, but you will soon realize he is an icon.
jmr's class was tough. his power points were okay, if you look for the jokes, you will learn to tolerate him. he isn't an easy grader & you do have to put in a lot of effort if you want to stay on top of the class. iconic, but i am still scared of him.
I found he would say information or give explanations verbally that wouldn't be on the power points so you need to pay close attention during lectures. He is a little intimidating at first but he is a nice person. His tests were hard but I felt prepared for the final exam.
Brutal teacher
Gives a lot of quizzes (once per week), a tough grader (will lose points for small things) and expects you to know much more than what he teachers.
This teacher is such a hard grader I showed up to every class and still understood nothing even through his test are hard they do not prepare you for the final
I don't know what to say, he was truly not a good fit for me. He expects you to know everything he's teaching and just understand. The free textbook he uses is not very helpful and he doesn't give problem sets or practice tests. He relies fully on you listening to his every word in lectures and he's not very approachable.
Had an average of 70% on his tests (his tests contained questions that aren't part of the material) and then got a 95% on the final without studying... Gives ZERO practice for his tests + tells you to find them yourself. My only savior was the labs (still got a bad rscore). He also has a heavy accent which makes it hard to understand during class.
His quizzes are on the textbook problems you do, but most of the time you'll still do bad. Tests are hard, questions you've never seen before and he does not give any practice problems whatsoever besides the ones for the quizzes. His lectures are so bad and vague. He talks and doesn't teach. DO NOT TAKE if you have the choice. No class average also
If you have the choice, especially if you're a first year, do not take him. Doesn't give any preparation for test or quizzes other than textbook questions with half the answers missing. He grades super strictly and wants everything done quickly. At least he made some good jokes though...
This dude likes watching his students suffer. He is the hardest grader at abbott and he expects you to already know everything. He is also mean for no reason. Avoid him if you can.
Avoid him if you aren't 100% confident in chem, or you might fail. But if you understand chemistry relatively well, he's a pretty decent teacher, just a really harsh grader. Even though his tests were much harder than other teachers, he really prepares you for the final, so it pays off in the end.
I'm convinced he wanted us to fail. He graded very harshly and gave no partial points. The quizzes were difficult and he gave very little material for preparation. He was available outside of class but did not explain some of the more difficult topics well.
I took for chem of solutions and almost failed. I had to take again for gen chem since it was my only choice and he was amazing. Do not take for chem of solutions if you want to struggle all semester but do take for gen chem. He taught the course very well, pay attention to his powerpoints and study the textbook questions he gives for quizzes.
There were some gaps in learning in his class, which made it harder to study than necessary.
I took him for NYB and NYA, and he is amazing. He is strict on proper lab procedure, but always explains it. Some say he is mean, but he has a great sense of humour when you look for it. His lectures are detailed and his tests are hard but they prepare you perfectly for the final. He loves chemistry and will teach you to love it too.
He is strict, grades harshly, and can be a bit tough. However, he doesn't deserve the bad rep so many give him. He's always clear and rigorous with his grading criteria, genuinely cares about his students, and he's understanding. Sure he grades harshly, he does it for everyone, so your R-score will be fine, and you'll be more ready for the final.
Had such a difficult time in his class; he doesn't explain the content very well, and his tests are so difficult. Harsh grader too - he gives no partial marks. He does have a little bit of a good humour, but I would try to avoid him if you can if you are not 100% confident in chem.
heed the warnings
Had him for Chemistry of Solutions, he is not that bad. Lectures are confusing and boring, but his notes prepare well for the final. He grades harshly, but is clear with his grading criteria. Tests are harder than the final and the labs are also hard (do pre-labs if you have any). Quizzes boost your grade and you must study hard for this course.
Had him for Chem of solutions. Overall, he knows his material well but I found it hard to follow his teaching. He would often go way too fast and it would be hard to understand each topic. His PowerPoints werent always very clear too. Quizzes are weekly but fairly easy, exams are pretty difficult. Lab reports are easy, follow the prelab closely.
I had low expectations from JMR at the start of my semester but he proved me wrong. Staying up to date with studying is a must as we had a quiz every week. He is strict and grades pretty harshly. He handles labs very rigorously, so read the prelab before any lab. If you are naturally good at chemistry, there's really no reason not to pick him.
Probably one of the worst teachers I have ever had. Impossible to follow his lectures as they are long and he makes everything more difficult than it has to be. Tests are insanely hard. He never gives part marks and is rude if you try to ask him questions. Definitely would stay away if you can.
Pros: Mr.Regimbal isn't that boring to listen to. Always does a quick recap of last class at the start of class(which helps ppl show up late with no consequences) Cons: Harsh grader. Bro claps everyone. Small details irrelevant to the final are on his test(slides are key)
I had him for labs, hes a weird guy. His grading is THE WORST! For labs, I got 70s cuz he was too lazy to grade properly. He isn't horrible at explaining but if you need guidance in understanding a topic dont go to him. He will stare at you blankly and won't be much help. Hes hilarious tho without knowing it, def gonna be entertained fs with him.
I think he's pretty great for NYA if you know how to study right. Using the slides he posts ESPECIALLY THE NOTES AT THE BOTTOM OF EACH SLIDE is vital bcs tests can be hard. ALL test questions are based on the slides and the notes or things mentioned in class. A bit harsh on labs. Hilarious guy tho. I'd be more worried for NYB with him.
I took him for both NYA and NYB. He's genuinely a nice guy and he cracks a few jokes during the lectures which is nice. He is a tough grader though, esecially for labs, but as long as you study well and do what's asked, you'll be fine. Use the notes in the powerpoints to study, that's what the more specific questions in the tests are about!!
Unapproachable and made no sense.
Very condescending. If you're an anxious person or person or colour don't take this class. Worst chem prof at abbott
AVOID this teacher. He overcomplicates the material and focuses on lots of theory, the tests are very hard and concentrated on small details and theory that does not matter. VERY hard grader, does not give part marks. Notes are not clear and didnt even cover all the material for the final.
He is very specific in his requirement. Beware of the notes at the very bottom of his slides. . His exams are very specific to his view of chemistry . Listen in class because the hardest questions on the tests are things he mentioned in class . Regardless of his tough grading he is a very funny guy and usually available even outside of office hours
Was a nice person but the worst chem teacher I had. He never post the class average. And his tests are so hard. He doesn't really prepare you for the finals since he focuses on details that are not important. He's a very tough grader and just wants to remove points. Certainly won't recommend!
Took him for 202-SN1RE, hilarious guy and accessible outside class. Tests focus on comprehension, not application, with notes under the slides being crucial. Any irrelevant details can be on his tests, which differ from the final since he emphasizes on theory that other teachers skip. Quizzes are fair, but he's a very very tough grader for labs.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Adds material to what he's supposed to teach, making his class confusing. He does 1 quiz/week and he WILL try to scam you by marking the grades as "subject to change". He WILL change things up, even if it hurts the class average. Does not give half marks. Final average was still high, probably because lots people failed his class.
Pretty good guy I would say but very tough class, check the notes on the PowerPoint slides for the stuff that's gonna be on the tests. Tests are incredibly difficult but good preparation for final exam, first unit test is high school revision, second unit test is a lot harder than first so be prepared.
Jean-Michel is maybe the most knowledgeable chemistry teacher at john abbott college and for that reason, he is very strict, about many things. Although his exams and quizzes are difficult he prepares you extremely well for the final and you will learn the most chemistry you will have ever learnt in your life through him. I 100% recommend him
DROP ASAP!
Had him as my lab instructor. He was the most strict teacher i've ever had. He grades so hard. At least 5 people in our lab group failed.
Harsh grader, hard tests. Quizzes are hit or miss. Dont choose him if you want good grades unless you are sure in your chem abilities. Choose him if you want to learn because he is great at teaching. Make sure to read the online textbook, helps a lot with him. Listen in class and read carefully the slides because there are a lot of weird questions.
Had bro for 2 semesters. He doesn't tell you how much time you have left while you're doing the weekly quiz until the last minute or so, the tests are heavy on theory and require precise terminology for full marks, and he's nitpicky about lab work. Even if you're goated, you're gonna lose points somewhere. I have witnessed 90+. He funny tho.
DROP HIM RN. Absolute monster. He does not care and he wont be afraid to give a zero. If you litsen, he is a great professor, but just his grading makes him horrible. He gave me a 0/10 on something bcz one value did not have units. He is unclear what he wants and he expect you to know everything. and yes if you write in pencil, he will give you 0
Régimbal is a super knowledgeable guy, he's a great teacher who explains wonderfully and clearly has a great passion for chemistry. However, you've got to be naturally good at chemistry or really on your stuff to do well with him. Extremely harsh grading and high expectations, though an amazing lecture teacher and good guy at heart.
his lectures can be very boring but you have to listen to them, his tests are very hard and he tests u on every little thing he said in the lecture. he is an extremely harsh grader, especially in the labs. and you never have enough time for the quizzes. unless you are 1000% confident in your chem abilities do not take him.
Horrible grader on tests, labs, and quizzes. Tests are very hard with little to no practice material, even for the final. He expects precise answers on concepts he barely emphasized, even if they only came up once. Slides are vague and missing key info unless you check the speaker notes. Very hard to succeed unless you self-teach.
tests are very theory based and hard. quizzes a bit harder than hw. average feedback that's kinda snarky. pay attention to speaker notes in slides - that stuff is always on tests. use textbook alongside notes bc he expects you to fill in the gaps in theory yourself. good at explaining concepts. more approachable in office hours. very tough in labs.
Regimbal is really tough in terms of grading, but his overall course is probably one of the best I've had when it comes to learning chemistry. I learned more from his course than most other teachers. However, I do think that if you are bad at chemistry you SHOULD NOT take him, because it's very difficult to get good grades without being perfect.
Very harsh grader, avoid him at all costs. If you care about your grade, go to anyone else. He prides himself in grading harsher than the other chemistry teachers. Enough said.
Honestly, he was really funny and explained well, I was surprised by his rating. Honestly, if you are good at Chemistry, you should take him, he cares a lot about chemistry in general and will explain extra stuff if you are interested. Labs are brutal, prepare yourself, though. Tip for his tests: Make sure to read every slide in the powerpoint.
He wasn't absolutely terrible but if you have a choice don't pick him, he only ever assigns questions from the online text book which in most cases didn't help prepare you for the tests in the end. There is a quiz every week and he is very nitpicky about wording, units and neatness even if you get it right. He is very smart but unapproachable.
I'm traumatized. Only take him if you have a strong knowledge of chemistry.
The worst teacher I've ever had in my life. If you struggle with chemistry AT ALL (like me) or ask a lot of questions, avoid him at all costs. If you have the misfortune of having to take him, teach yourself everything beforehand and come to class already super confident on the subject of the day.
If you have the chance, please don't take him!
jegimballs was the worst teacher ive ever had. Not only did his voice sounded like he was always on the verge of sneezing, but he was one of those teachers that want to see you fail. I'm a good student but his labs were IMPOSSIBLE and he graded extremely harshly, would give me 45% on labs when ive never failed anything in cegep.CHOOSE PEACE
Save yourself. I had to drop this class. His slides are fine. But he is so rude, especially in the lab. Also his grading for labs is terrible. Keeps a list of his favourite students (the ones who are doing the best). He is friends with the head of chem so dont even think about complaining about him to the higher ups.
Having him as a teacher was a waste of time, unpleasant experience and didn't learn much. I have done better in all my other courses except with him. In hindsight, I was better off dropping his class and focusing on the others and wait to take a chemistry course without him teaching it.
Honestly, worst teacher ever, his grading is completly unclear, he seems to take pleasure in removing any points you have, he makes you feel stupid, while not explaining anything. He forgot to teach a part of the final exam, and didn't do anything to compensate for the grade. His notes on ppt are just awful, with no information AVOID.
do not take
DO NOT TAKE HIM, worst teacher ever. I put diesel in my gas car to avoid going to his class, i rather jump off a bridge than see him ever again. Every time i have his class i hope i get hit by a truck, if you get him, wish you best of luck, you will want to end ur life. DROP IMMEDIATELY, SWITCH PROGRAMS DO ANYTHING TO GET OUT OF HIS CLASS
I had him for gen chem lab. He is absolutely terrible and so mean. DO NOT TAKE HIM. Drop him if he's assigned to you. He genuinely wants you to fail and takes off marks for absolutely no reason.
If you're reading this, avoid this teacher at all costs. If you already have him, drop ASAP before it's too late. This man takes pride in removing points for no reason. You will suffer in his class. He tests you on stuff he barely mentions in class. He is very knowledgeable, but he's the kind of teacher that will make you hate chemistry forever.
Very tough grader, his tests are extremely difficult. Native french speaker so take him in french preferably. Lectures are also heavy. None of the questions from the text book will show up on the test so be ready to be surprised. Will answer your questions relatively well
take him if you want to hate chem
Do not take Regimbal no matter what. This guy makes his tests on the most random things that he mumbles at 8:30 am, removes marks because "he is not sure if your answer is right", gives no material to practice for tests, and when class average on his tests is failing, he tells the class to "smarten up" and that we are all going to fail the final.
