Inteligent. Her class is kind of touchy-feeley. Prepare to talk about yourself
Her class is so boring. She does EVERYTHING off transparencies. It is easy--but hella boring. Easy grade though.
Great instructor. Class is very interesting!
Get all the notes and you'll be fine. Make sure you give a good presentation, only one. Some dayz its intertesting and good discussions, but it can be a little dull taking notes that come from the book. You've got problems if you don't get an A/B.
Very easy & interesting class. All notes on overhead. 3 tests, 1 presentation. No need to read the book, just know the bold terms. She does a good job of explaining the concepts. Good class.
Thought it would be boring, and at times it was, but for the most part interesting class. Tests are so easy and so is the presentation.
E-A-S-Y... Cool, too
Awsome teacher! Class was really interesting and had lots of funny moments. Did not fall alseep once! She is super cool and really nice. Class is based on opinions, stories, and experiences from the students so it can get REALLY funny. You're an idiot of you dont get at least a B. If you take notes EVERY DAY you dont need the book.
Wonderful class. Dr. Twenge is insightful, succinct, and humorous. There are three exams (worth 20% of grade each), a VERY short presentation (10%), and a cumulative final (30%). The final was not too difficult if you studied and went to class all semester. Not a difficult class - especially if you are a psych major. No need to take someone else!!
This class was more like an undergrad career development class than a master's history course. Was unable to answer basic questions. SOOOOO boring, waste of time. the end.
Awesome professor. She keeps her students engaged & answers students' questions thoroughly. She doesn't post any notes online so you must attend class or get them from a classmate. You also have to read the textbook to do well on the exams. There are 3 exams and one cumulative final. There is also one short presentation. I highly recommend her!!!
Go to class because notes are not posted. Book not needed if you go to class and take light notes. shes not very helpful and doesnt reschedule exams. best advice is to study the terms she highlight and some of the more obvious terms in the book.
I agree with the previous comment. She is great: not only very clear, but if she is not sure about a topic (and in psychology there are many), she will tell you frankly. ATTEND EVERY CLASS and WRITE DOWN EVERY SINGLE WORD SHE SAYS: they are GOLD; even her examples and/or jokes. You don't really need the book, some students didn't have it.
Very fun and energetic. Uses up-to-date examples. If you attend class and read the book(not all, just what she covers in class) you will recieve an A. Trust me you MUST study for the tests. The material may seem like common sense but it is not that simple. Had 3 tests,a final, and a written assignment. Take Her!
Easy class, easy subject. 3 midterms, a Final and an easy assignment. I would take her again.
She's cool, but I didn't like her class. There are no study guides and she does not post her powerpoints. The TA held review sessions, but they didn't help much. The tests were kind of random. Go to class, read the book, and watch all the videos because there will be questions on those. The final is cumulative. She doesn't curve either. Good luck!
I do not recommend her. She lets her TA do all of the grading, as well as run the review sessions before the exam (and he is completely useless and doesn't care about the subject). Professor does not provide study guides so when preparing for the exam you will either get an A or an F. Good luck, but I would not recommend this professor.
Easy class. Nice teacher. No need to read the book. Just be sure to take good notes in class. And, don't slack off on the last two tests.
Awesome professor!! this is a pretty easy class! seriously I would say it's 90% lecture based-and not tricky way. Her lectures are simple and clear, and the majority of her test questions tie back to examples shes already talked about. The final is cumulative, but if you read the book and really review past lectures you'll do fine!
She is basically not the teacher of the class. Her TAs give the exams, she uses Wimba Classroom, so if you don't like those kind of classes don't take her. Class is interesting, but I recommend you to take a better and more dedicated teacher.
She is great! Very knowledgeable and understanding. Tests were challenging, but not impossible. I'm going to take all classes she instructs.
Go to class and take good notes on what she says. Tests are straight forward if you attend every class and take good notes, even on the videos! TA's have a review session before each test. Easy one page writing assignment. Take her!
This was an interesting class. Twenge makes everything clear and uses youtube videos to show examples. The tests are not that easy but not bad either. The 2nd test was 80 questions and so much chapters to remember but after that it gets better. She doesnt respond to emails, you have to communicate with TAs which is so annoying. go to every class!
Great class. I recommend this class to anyone. Your grade is based on tests and personality questionnaires. It's a good idea to purchase the book and skim through it before tests. Dr. T tests on "anything in the book that covers more than one page".
Great Teacher! Class is based on lectures and 1 page writing assignment and multiple choice exams. Test are not that easy but if you really read the entire chapters of the book you'll do fine. TIP: study extra hard for the 2nd exam!
Really easy & straight forward class! 3 midterms, 1 optional final & an easy 1 page writing assignment. Go to class because tests are 90% off of lecture. Focus on terms & how they differ. 2nd test was a bit harder than the others. One of the easiest classes I have taken. She actually makes it interesting! LOVED this class. Easy A!
She was ok, there are 3 exams and one paper. So if you are not good at taking tests, good luck! No extra credit.
Twenge is a great professor. She's very passionate about her work and teaching and she makes the subject interesting. Giant class size so there were only lectures and exams. Watched some videos which were helpful. Great class!
I would highly recommend taking another teacher!! She hardly shows up to lectures and her TA's do most of the work. There are no review sheets and there is so much material to cover. For an easy class, the tests were very difficult. I studied a lot for every test and ended up getting a C+ in the class.
Professor Twenge tries to make a simple subject a little more complex. If you really study the book and make an outline of each chapter, you can get a B on the tests. You really need to understand vocabulary in order to do the comprehension questions on her exams. She grades on a curve, but she rounded an 82.49 down to a B- instead of it being a B!
Kind of difficult class but made it out with an A- (your lowest exam score gets dropped). Exams are 80% from the discussion & 20% from the book! If you know the vocab you'll be golden! Interesting class but you have to study a lot to get an A. No review sessions/ study guide so go to every class and know the vocab.
4 tests(lowest dropped) and personality packets which are worth 20% of the grade(very easy points.)Interesting material, but the tests are hard. If I had a chance to do it over again I would actually read the book instead of just studying the notes.
This should have been a great/interesting class. Somehow she made it boring in lecture, never responded to emails & just seemed to be phoning it in. I guess once you get tenure you don't really need to try anymore.. Do personality packets, interesting & easy points. We got to use a free draft of her textbook which was actually a great textbook.
I really wanted to like this class but the lectures were brutal. I loved the personality tests because you really get to know more about yourself and they are quite fun. Tests were hard, I studied for them and got C's.
Hated this class, probably the worst one I have taken. Professor is disorganized with lectures, doesn't post slides from lectures, gives out no study guide, and tests are hard. must read the book and memorize every little detail to do well. Stay away from this class! Would be way better with different professor!
Great professor take her! Grades based on 4 exams w lowest one dropped. Personality packets are easy points & interesting. Free textbook since she was in the process of publishing it. Not exactly an easy A but the material is easy enough that if you read the book & follow lectures you will have no problem retaining the info.
I took Psychology of Personality from Dr. Twenge and felt like I really learned a lot. The subject is very interesting as well as immediately applicable and Dr. Twenge is extremely well-versed in the area. At the time she had just co-authored the textbook and because it wasn't printed yet gave it to us for free. Not the easiest, just very good.
The only thing that made this class not as exciting as I'd hoped was that the professor wrote the book, so the lectures were a repetition of the chapters. That made it boring at times, I wish there'd have been more variability in the lectures (diff. examples). Some of the test questions are very specific to the reading. She offered extra credit.
This class was tough. She doesn't offer study guides and her lectures are long and boring. If you read the book, study the learning objectives and the vocal then you can get an A in this class. Make sure you do personality questionnaires, easy points! There are 3 exams and 1 cumulative final, but your lowest exam is dropped.
3 tests and a cumulative final. You can drop any of them. Assigns personality packets where you fill out questionnaires and learn about yourself, easy and interesting. Tests were not big picture and conceptual, it was more "how many weird details can you remember." Overall, interesting subject, bad tests
No study guide. Does NOT post PPT slides. Goes too fast during slides so you are not able to write down all material. I read each chapter, aced each quiz and studied for the exam. I usually get A's & with the amt of effort I put into studying, the exam was not fair. Got B- when trying super hard. Exams are more complex than what she teaches
Lectures are interesting and homework and online quizzes are fairly straightforward and as long as you read are easy to do well on. The problem comes in with the Exams as they are nowhere near big picture and are more obscure and specific to examples that seem insignificant. Additionally, I emailed several times and received no response.
Love this class, my fav of the semester. Have to read the online book because they're are quizzes throughout the chapter, easy points that help boost your grade. Learned a lot about my own personality since you take a lot of questionnaires then learn about what is measured. Going to class was easy, she was organized and always showed funny videos.
Dr. T seems more into research than teaching. She goes way to fast on the lectures and sometimes class time is wasted. Tests are super tough and long. That's why you have to read and attend lectures. There are also online assignments due and personality questionnaires which were interesting. I wish she was more engaging to the class.
Online portion was a mess. The app and the website showed different content, it was not clear which journals were due, points were missing, questions/answers would be wrong on quizzes and you were still expected to leave the correct answer for credit. I did NOT attend class except for test days and some test content was from class lecture.
awful awful awful do not take this class. Half of the lectures were posted online, along with all of the homework. Teacher got numerous complaints throughout the semester about problems with online homework and did little to nothing about it. She is definitely more interested in her research studies than her students.
She has mandatory online book work which isn't difficult but is ZERO help for studying for exams. Her online lectures just repeats what is in the book, but then her exam material is from random things mentioned in the in class lecture. I found inconsistencies with what she says on class vs. what's written in the book. Would not take again. No curve
She is the most amazing teacher I have ever had I love the personality quiz
Wow so caring but makes you work for it do read up
Shes good but is hard to plese
Really interesting class and not too hard to get credit. We have 3 exams and 1 final. Worst grade of the 4 exams is dropped meaning if you like your first 3 exam scores you can skip the final. In the online book there are journals, quizzes, and questionaries that you must complete for points as you read through the chapters.
There was a face to face class on Tuesdays and online videos on Thursdays. Book is mandatory in order to do Hw and questionnaires. Attending lectures, hw and watching videos should be enough but reading the book will definitely help. Professor doesn't seem to care about class, but explains topics well. Go to class she asks things on exam about it.
I really enjoyed this class. The material is interesting and Twenge is a great prof. The class isn't too hard if you take good notes when reading the textbook and in class during her lectures. Tests are fair and not tricky.
Dr. Twenge is the most accomplished Professor in the Psych. dept. if not all of SDSU. With that, I was excited for this class. Even though she is an expert in her field, it becomes clear, early, she is operating on autopilot. Due to subpar lectures, I opted to study from home. Read the chapters, pp slides on bb, and take notes and you'll get an A
This class was fairly easy, she uses Pearson so we had weekly assignments online (personality questionnaires and chapter quizzes). Make sure you stay on top of due dates because I missed one and it brought my grade down, you're able to skim through chapters and still do decent on quizzes so don't worry about that. Overall interesting class
Can't go wrong on this one! There's an unexpected change in the syllabus due to the pandemic. Ended up having a 2000-word essay instead of three exams.
Took her online class as an elective based on reviews. The homework is Pearson with the quizzes after each section and its easy, but it's important to not miss one because she is not forgiving on deadlines. Lectures are basically what the book says, but most of her tests are done on lectures. Exams were difficult for me, since its on every 5-6chps.
Her lectures are recorded but can be up to an hour. Pay close attention to her lectures bc her test are based on her lectures and examples. Try not to miss a due date for homework bc it will cost you at the end. She offered extra credit at the end. Very easy going class as long u keep up w/ lectures and homework.
Tests are based on lectures; lecture notes can be located online @ studoc. Need to purchase an online package to do the required homework (reading not required; refer to quizlet for answers). Never attended a class and received an A for doing all the homework and studying lecture notes.
I was so excited to take this class because Twenge is one of the most accomplished professors at state. Her grading method is super weird and she does not record lectures. Lectures were always interesting though but make sure you take good notes if you take this class.
Very nice, but dull. Hybrid but online lectures are separate from in person. Does not release slides so must take notes. Pearson for HW, don't pass up points. Tests are not definition based so study. Test are in person. You could pass by not going to class just study for in person tests.
Super knowledgeable and makes lectures interesting. Her grading system is weird so it's hard to know how many points you have throughout the semester. Tests are straightfoward, try not to miss a class.
she "wrote" two books with horrible arguments and circular reasoning. She uses her own research as evidence for her book.
I was really excited for this class and the professor, but it was too easy and I dont really know that I learned as much as Id hoped to. Textbook is a fun read (Sometimes Id be so captivated Id wander chapters ahead) and her lectures are very interesting.
Hybrid & attendance not mandatory but content from in person lecture is on exams and she doesn't upload them so go to class. Textbook is required, authored by Prof. so the lectures are basically same as textbook reading. Questionnaire and quizzes on cengage due every saturday night. 3 exams, 1 final (optional). Take w/ psy 340 as content overlaps.
She's a good professor; the midterms are in person and scenario based, so you need to know the material very well. Also the homework may seem like a lot at first but it will get easier to handle.
Exams have more scenario-based questions so you have to study more to properly understand the material in order to do well. All quizzes are in the e-textbook (which frequently had tech issues so don't put it off to the last minute). You also take a lot of personality questionnaires as part of the hw so it's interesting learning more abt yourself!
As the book's author, she reads off the slides in her lectures. 54-62Q in 1hr&15min per exam. Drops lowest exam ONLY if you take the final. doesn't roundup, and NO extra credit. Several exam questions(exam 2)are confusing, and most students do poorly on that exam. Study the experiments and videos she puts in class. Tough Grader on quizzes.
Didn't show up to class. Studied off pre-made quizlets. Got an A. Lots of material, LOTS of memorization. Don't take it unless you're willing to put in the work. Easy homework. One exam is dropped.
She doesn't come to the exam, had her TA administer every single exam of the semester, clearly only here to do research with the teaching of the class at an afterthought. 85-90% of exam are from slides in lecture, but there are quizlet from previous student posted online so you really don't have to come into the lecture. One exam is drop.
Super interesting class, very passionate teacher. She wrote her textbook, so lectures and txtbk are the same content. Lots of reading, but personality quizzes were fun. Lots of quizlets out there for the HW and studying. She's very sweet, and sometimes her test questions had silly references, so they didn't feel as daunting. Totally recommend
Professor Twenge was wonderful. She's very passionate about the topic, and keeps lectures interesting. This class was hybrid so we watched one lecture on our own time and had one in-person lecture a week. Exams are straight forward but you need to study to pass them. The class is tough at times and is not an easy A. I highly recommend this class
Professor Twenge was really amazing! Most work for the course was completed online as I took PSY 351 in hybrid format, but our weekly in-person lectures were fun, interactive, and well-structured. There is a heavy amount of content covered quickly though, so if you're a student that needs extra time to really digest the material, I would beware. :)
This was one of my favorite classes as it was very straight forward with what you had to do and all of her lectures were really interesting and engaging. You take 4 tests and your lowest gets dropped so at the end of the semester if you like your grade you do not have to take the final.
Incredibly intelligent professor that cares about her students. Has great policies, exams are straightforward. She fosters class discussion in a lecture which is super rare from professors here.
Lots of homework is in the textbook, written by her. I feel like the personality questionnaires made up a lot of our grade. Her exams are a little weird and don't make sense at times but I guess the questionnaires made up for it.
Jean is super knowledgeable and this class is worth taking with her! hw is based on her own textbook that she created and lectures consist of the same information from textbook. Only downside is she doesn't record and post her lectures and there are no study guides for the exams. Grade is based on 4 exams (1 dropped) and textbook quizzes.
Super smart woman and interesting class. Not super hard, but fun to learn.
I was warned not to take this class, but I didn't listen because of the good reviews on Rate My Professor. I should've trusted my advisor.
Extremely knowledgeable professor who knows how to lecture; easy course to navigate! You have lots of time to complete the homework and can still turn it in late! The exams were a lot of material from lecture and the textbook! You need both to pass with an A! Do good on the first 3 exams so you don't have to take the final (final was a LOT of info)
Exams based on memorization, youll be fine with knowing all the definitions in the textbook. Homework based off of online quizlets. Would take this for easy A. Has an ego, bad at responding - but again, would take for credit.
