One of the best teachers I've had so far. I went from knowing very little about politics, to having a decent understanding of the political world in one semester. Extremely hard course, but 100% worth your time. Honestly, an amazing teacher.

I think that everyone is being too hard on her. Yes there are many things due at the end of the semester but you know what they are from the 1ST DAY OF CLASS(in her reader) Its not her fault if you wait till the last minute. She knows her stuff and I believe that her assignments are fair, lets you have an outline of the essays.

She's a great teacher. I learned a lot from her and I got an A in her class, so obviously it's possible.

Totally easy. You just gotta listen up and be interested. She knows her stuff and if you're into politics, it's all good. Sometimes though, she asks a question and you're not sure if she know's the answer or if she's really asking you...strange.

Fun and informative class. Topical as well as historical marterial covered. Not for SLACKERS or high school extension mentality.I earned an A as did my 3 study group partners. she is a great teacher. i took her about 2 semesters agao and got a B. it was not too much hard work but you gotta focus though.... and she is very helpful and will go over stuff till u get it

I tought she was great, down to earth, and really educated in politics.

I think she is a great teacher. I knew nothing about American Goverment and politics before this class. I learned alot at the end of the semester and I liked the way she thought. I took a lot of notes and got a B from this class. Ask her if you are struggling with the assignments, she is very heplfull and will encourage for you to learn.

She is really nice and will remember you. The subject can be dull at times but she tried her best to make it not be. Study for her tests and you'll do well.

Good teacher who has developed a reader that is broad and balanced. Though she is open about her own political leaning she does not censor nor condescend in discussions. I got an A.

Jeanette is wonderful. She only has a few major assignments, and the due dates are pretty loose. Be prepared to read or you won't do well. She is more than available and happy to provide help if you need it. She isn't hard, but expects you to act like a responsible adult. She only has two major essay exams - DO THE READING and you'll do fine.

I'm not sure why so many people don't like this professor.. I find her incredibly informative and very good at what she does. She is knowledgable and helpful and I learned so much from this class! I think a lot of students consider many professors to be "bad" when they aren't "easy A's". This is NOT an easy A class, but Jeanette is great!

Jeanette is the most FUN teacher I have had yet. She is witty, interactive, and very helpful in class. I was dreading taking PoliSci, and she made it the most interesting class I had last semester. She is always available in office hours and gives many extra credit opps. Finish your final outlines early enough, and she'll look over them for you. :)

Good teacher.

This is not an easy class. You will need to read the text book and take notes in class. Be prepared, and don't procrastinate. She does give her opinions, but does so with valid reasoning, and considers the opinions of students regardless of her agreement. If you do the work and preparation, and see her when she suggests, you should do fine.

Entertaining, enthusiastic, responsible, responsive and engaging. This is a complex subject, but this instructor made it accessible for the whole class.

I learned tons in this class, and have since become very interested in politics. Good teacher.

If you are conservative in ANY way... DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!! She is SO liberal, she trys to push her thinking habits onto you. Try sitting in her class for an hour and a half while she bashes our country... rather annoying I think.

She is the definition of a college teacher; only 2 assigned assignments (book review/Supreme Court)BUDGET YOUR TIME WELL; pop quizzes common - expects you read the book before class, Do the in-class discussions/debates early. Very helpful during office hours. and she does show her views, but doesnt impose them on the students.

She was a good teacher. I was generally interested in what she had to say, and it was a great time to take a political science class. My only problem was that in the beginning of the semmester, she wasn't very clear on the long-term assignments that we had. I wouldnt recomend this class for freshmen...

This was not an easy class but I somehow got an A. Jeanette is very helpful and if you do what she reccomends you will do fine. A lot of work but you definitely learn the material. Don't take if you are a crybaby student.

She was a very good teacher. I came into her class hating history and politics. With in a few weeks I fascinated by the subject. Although she is hard and gives lots of homework she is very intresting. Her lectures are always engaging and teach tons abou the subject. Also, she doesn't shy away from showing things that put the US in bad light.

Jeannette is a great teacher. She really knows what she's talking about and her lectures are engaging, interesting and easy to follow. She is fair, but expects you to do the readings and have a good understanding of the material. She uses a lot of resources such as podcasts, articles, the textbook and useful websites. Highly recommended class.

She is a really good teacher, her lecture are really easy to understand. A lot of assingments, and some are hard and most are not worth that many points. She is a good teacher and you will learn a lot but she is hard.

Interesting subject with good lectures, but it's a really hard class. Tons of assignments and expects way too much. Was an A student before, but now I get D's and F's on assignments... I would recommend this class for those interested in Political Science, but find another teacher if you're just taking it for the requirements.

An ok teacher, but thinks a little too highly of her own abilities... grades very tough, I used exacts examples on an essay and was told they were factually incorrect? Really i just didn't like the class and I don't think she is a fair grader don't take it if you can help it

BEST TEACHER EVER! Amazing! Really intelligent and intersting. Made the class fun and engaging. Lots of homework and she grades hard, but she is fair. Also, really helpful in office hours and very nice. I loved her class. She made me work hard, but made the assignments enjoyable. I really recommend her!!!!!! =)

BenFarhat is a very knowledgable professor. She gives great lectures if you pay attention & if you REALLY pay attention her lectures give you thourough answers to the midterm and final exams. Great teacher! She does like to slip her liberal opinions into everything in a slightly humourous fashion though so be ready to work and use her office hours!

I slept through every class and didnt do any of the homework minus the class project. I got a C and put in F level effort. Took the class 6 years back, wish I had put in more effort.

I thought she was a good teacher, but the structure was too much discussion the whole class, all the same people participate, and it makes it hard to want to go to class because no role and rarely ever any homework. Good movies, good assignments, the teacher has excellent style sense, and enthusiastic about subject. Lots of articles to read.

My major and for the most part interesting. A little too much online work but if its your thing take it. If you aren't a politics major it doesn't meet any requirements for the school soo wouldn't suggest it.

I enjoyed this class, although I was not very interested in polisci. Benfarhat's lectures are interesting and she is very nice and helpful. There is a lot of homework, but if you do it, you will get a good grade. The homework is not meaningless: I really learned from it. I deffinitely recommend this class!

In Pols you will learn a lot with her. My criticism is that she's not very clear on when assignments are due. check the web page often. She is also very leftist and takes that perspective rather than a more balanced approach.I happen to agree but some may not.

This is one awesome teacher expects the work done, but when it's done it pays off.

This class is definitly tough but she is always willing to help students and gets back to them very quickly with answers or help on essays and stuff. just read the book and take the practice quizzes she assigns online and practice tests and you will do fine. you just have to try!

Jeanette is great. very engaging Very liberal,+that will affect how she interacts with you Loved me because im left wing+a good writer.She asked my advice on the class and I suggested getting rid of the textbook + online quiz bullsh*t. I missed like 15 online quizzes but she gave me an A because she respected my opinion on them. not fair, but cool.

She's very nice, but expects a lot out of you. She's always gotten back to me quickly. She really expects good essay writing. She's very knowledgable on the subject. Expect to work in this class.

This was an extremely interesting class. Ms. Benfarhat really knows her history and politics, which go so hand in hand. I am not a history or politics buff by any means, and needed the class to graduate; but I learned so much from this class. Don't take this class if you don't want to work or learn.

Jeanette is a passionate teacher of IR. She encourages class participation and reflection of personal political views. While she is pretty obvious in the expression of her personal politics, she makes every effort to teach/compare/contrast opposing views. She is very helpful and approachable.

Expects a lot of you. Do the reading. Understand it. Show up. Is very concise on what she wants. Very liberal, but accepts other points of views. However, I would highly recommend her, she will really open your eyes.

Jeanette involves the whole class in IR projects and games. She teaches real world problems along with current events. If you listen and take part in the lectures, and participate in groups assignments, you will do well with her as a prof and you will learn a lot. I would definitely take another class with her.

She made a class I was uninterested in quite engaging, however she is very liberal and unless she agrees with you she seems to be annoyed at your opinions. Very tough class, tests require an intense amount of studying. Very relaxed class atmosphere, she is very engaging. I would take again.

She goes a little off topic frequently during lecture but as long as you follow along with the textbook you should be fine. I would suggest getting on her good side, I've had no problems with her and enjoy her class. Her finals are difficult. You have to write an essay for 1.5 hours on a subject of her choice (you get clues to the topic/notes).

I LOVED her!!! So thoughtful and interesting. You need to stay on-topic, but she loves class discussions-and she will be respectful of everyone's opinion. She does grade hard, but she is really open to helping you our during office hours. Def. need the textbook for this one. Web component was also a little glitchy...Take her!! She's the bomb. :)

Loved her! She's very passionate and knowledgeable about political science, made class very interesting to attend and listen to her lectures.

She is a very intelligent professor who knows the subject well. If you are not clear about something she is very patient about explaining the material however you must be your own advocate and ask for help if you need it. The secret to success in this class is that you HAVE TO READ THE BOOK, show up to class and do the online homework.

I felt like she was pretty fair made you really think on issues. She tries not to show her own political view but it does come out at times. If your view is the opposite do not worry she is very respectful and listens to you. Keep up on the readinghw and read a article here and there, go with BBC or Al Jazeera news you'll do well.

Took Benfarhat's PolySci class Fall14 as a 16 yo high school senior. It was the best of my school career--along with Giordano's Eng. I was there for me; I enjoyed it, I learned. Completing the class & getting a grade was an added bonus! I truly learned about Interests Groups & other parts of our gov't, I wasn't merely memorizing. Great lecturer!

Benfarhat is extremely knowledgeable and demands a lot from her students. That being said, she is incredibly helpful and will go to great lengths to provide adequate support and instruction, if needed. If you have an interest in polisci, do not let negative reviews dissuade you from taking her. She is difficult, but very brilliant and caring.

AMAZING! Beware her classes are not just polisci, they are food politics. I was not aware of this before the class and it did hamper my enjoyment a bit, but overall I highly recommend!

Took her for POLS 1. Easy, easy class. Homework is all online and is basic knowledge of stuff we should already know. Great teacher who genuinely enjoys the topic she teaches. Her assignments are not extensive, and her midterms/finals are relatively easy (as long as you studyher studying does not require much & she gives you the terms you need to know.) Her class is lecture heavy, but it has a conversational aspect as wellshe interacts with students throughout.

Benfarhat was so informative and I use information I learned in this course for the past two years. She is kind and understanding, but the course is not an easy A. This topic is incredibly important and you should take her course because she makes you rethink everything you once knew.

Participation Matters, Gives good feedback. Lectures were always great, very inclusive and open to all points of view. Work was tough, but chunked up to make easier to finish. Class was very inspiring and interesting way of presenting subject material.

Genuinely cares about her students. If you need her to clarify on anything she is more than willing to take the time to address the issue. Lectures are a little confusing and unfocused at times but she is passionate about political science. All the criteria for tests is outlined and she will go over any terms which you don't know. Easy workload.

Ignore some of the other comments. She is a fantastic professor who genuinely cares about her students, and wants to see you do well. Her lectures are very informative and only seem boring if you don't pay attention to the importance of the topics. Would definitely take her again. She really knows what she's talking about.

Jeanette is a well informed teacher who makes poly sci interesting to those who are foreign to it. Ill admit her lectures can be boring but I always use that time to do her homework during class. The class was incredibly easy and I barely tried. She gives opportunities for late work.

This was the most difficult college class I've ever taken. Hours of reading each week. Lots of papers. Must show up for lecture. Get ready to put in A LOT of work and time. All that aside, I learned a great deal about politics/history.

She is very friendly and professional. She is good at moderating and meditating discussions in class; There was a kid on here who gave her a bad rating for being too liberal, but the truth is that she sticks to facts and makes sure that no one kid tries to dominate the discussion or promote his/her ideology to the class. She is a very liberal in a positive way. I am currently taking her POLS 1 and I do not find it very difficult. We have a paper almost every other week but she gives them all 100% if you complete it. As far as the book she makes you buy, its terrible my laptop has gotten weird viruses from it but the quizzes are not hard at all.

Very informative for Political Science majors and ensures everyone in the class has a chance to participate in class discussions. Accessible outside of class if you ever need help with homework and truly wants you to pass and understand the material. Just be sure to keep up with the in class or online assignments.

I don't know why people have negative opinions toward this teacher. She really is a great person and knows seemingly everything about politics so you can tell that she enjoys talking about this stuff. Pay attention in class, do your assignments and you'll get an easy A, its a simple class.

I am sad to see this class come to an end; I would take this class ten times over with Professor Benfarhat. She is so understanding and accommodating, especially during Covid, the fires, etc. She truly cares about her students' success and wants to be sure you understand the material. She gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit.

Professor Benfarhat is brillant! She was very clear on what she expected from us and her class was difficult but fair. Her teaching style is very informative and she really expects us to think about what is happening in the world. I can't wait to take another class with her.

Had her online class during COVID. There was a consistent, weekly schedule. You don't need outstanding discussion posts to get full points, and the quizzes from the virtual textbook are simple. She teaches very little herself, just lays out the course material; you basically go through it yourself. She does integrate the lessons into current events

Professor Ben Farhat was amazing, and her international relations class was my favorite class Ive taken at SRJC. Classwork is a pretty normal load and she gives you a fair amount of time to do it. Projects are so fun and interesting. She really cares and really makes an effort to be relatable and accessible to her students. Take this class!!!

This class was very straight forward and I knew what to expect all semester. Do the work and put in a little effort and you will pass this class with an A. I missed 1 or 2 assignments and still got an A. Just take her!

Professor Benfarhat is overall very pleasant and understanding. If you do all of the assignments and put in the work, you will get an A. The workload could be a little heavy with all of the readings and group work, but I do not think she asked anything unrealistic of us. Good class discussions about current events. Would take her again!

I dreaded having to take political science, but class is really straight forward and interesting! Do the chapter reading and quizzes all due on Monday, then turn in the 250 words discussion posting on Wednesday, and 100 word discussion response to another classmate on Thursday. Pay attention to turn in dates. There is only 3 essays for this class.

If you want an easy A take this class. Most assignments are on Revel. You have 1 discussion a week and 1 Revel assignment. There's lots of reading but honestly if your just taking this class for credit you don't need to read any of it. If you just take your time on the quizzes you will do fine.
