BORING! I was interested in subj when I came in-lost all interest when I got out

MOST BORING TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. Her lectures end the minute class ends, never early. She talks and talks in monotone.. its horrible. Tests are VERY hard even though they are MC.

This professor almost made me CRY!!!! Since I have a class during her office hours I went to ask her if I can meet her at another time. She just said NO before I even finished asking her and just walked away. I was just stading there Shocked!! If you like teachers who are helpful DO NOT take her class because she will now help you!!
It has been two weeks since our final exam and she still has not submitted final grades to the registrar. Hopefully she will get them in sometime before January 2007. Unbelievable.
If you attend almost every class and take extensive notes, it is very possible to get an "A". However, if you mostly slack off, it is also very possible to fail the course. She is extremely knowledgeable regarding the subject matter, but I can see how she rubs some people the wrong way. Just try your absolute best, and you will surely pass.
Not the most interesting woman in the world, in fact pretty far from it, but if you read the book (which is written at a 4th grade level) and take the notes in class which outline the theories you have to literally try to fail. Her exams are straight from the book, as are her lectures. It's painful, but can be a pretty easy A.
go to class and take notes!!! If you do that and study the in class notes well, you will pass with at least a B. If you are not the kind of person that likes to go to class and learn from the readings there is a good chance you may fail. If you are going to take this class you must go to class
Absolutely terrible teacher. All she does is preach her own ideology for an hour and 20 minutes. She presents the information in the least objective manner I have seen from someone with a teaching degree ever. Conspiracy theory rants about the government conspiring against minorities and the general public are common place. Avoid her.
If your looking for an easy course this is not it. Take any other teacher for criminology if you can. All she does is sits at her desk and talks at the class and every so often she'll get up to write on the board.
i had her class last semester. all i have to say is go to class and you will pass. take notes and study them. if you can reproduce the notes word for word you will get an A if not a B.
Amazing Class!!!! It will change your whole perspective on drugs. She is a very good professor and expains things very clearly. Just make sure you go to class and take notes.
Impossible tests, worthless lectures, manipulates information from book on exams. Went to every lecture, read all the readings, took good notes, thought I learned something and was prepared for the exams. Whole grade based on 2 exams. Professor is clearly trying to compensate for having a doctorate in an easy subject, by making us think it's hard.
Seemed like a TOTAL b*tch in the beginning, softens up as the sem goes by. Teaches in a weird way, basically all theories. Interesting info but ALWAYS talks about her drug class-gets annoying! 2 exams, not too hard, mostly from notes, some little details from book, curves a little- i got an A, alwyas keeps u full time sometimes even later.
She's okay. B is easy if u take plenty of notes. Midterm mostly reflected lecture notes. She won't allow any class related e-mails, PERIOD.
i waited my entire college career to get into this course, and i had such "high" hopes for a class on drug use! however, i have to tell you, this was the absolute worst class i have ever taken at rutgers. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH COVINGTON!!! PLEASE! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR!! she is boring, rude, and ruins the course. all around terrible class!
very unpleasant person. comes off as unapproachable, and when approached, confirms she is. not the hardest class ever but lectures drag on and i never felt motivated to go.
She does come off as quite unapproachable (though I agree she does soften up at the end), but honestly - this class isn't very difficult. There's a midterm and final, and the material is straight from the book. Class notes do help, too. And she curves!
Lectures are okay..she mostly reviews important points in the textbook. Exams are close to impossible even with the grade curving...out of 50 something people in the class, more than half the class got C's or D's and 17 or so people got A's to B's on the midterm.
Worst teacher ever.She managed to turn a course on drug use into the most boring class on earth.Seriously it is almost unimaginable how boring she is. Tests are hard and her studyguide is completely useless just like she is. Do not take this course with her!!!
Took drug use with her. you have to attend class and take meticulous notes. the material is interesting and you do not have to do the readings. she is very down to the point, i like her teaching style, she gets it done. not hard to do well on the two tests, just study...she is very knowledgeable and seems to be genuinely interested and invested
Uses overhead projector. She does post up her notes online, but I suggest you to attend her lectures and take your own notes(bring your laptop). VERY generous curves, but the averages for two exams were 60 and 50. This should tell you that you should read her notes and the book very carefully. Nonetheless, A VERY INTERESTING COURSE! Loved it
One of the worst professors I've had. She uses a projector and noted you can't even understand. Going to class was useless, just read the textbook. Her tests are ridiculous which is why there's a 30 point curve almost every time. I would only suggest taking this class if you need it for your major. Take sociology if your looking for a requirement.
Read the book carefully and didn't go to a single class and got an "A." Her curve is ridiculously beneficial, however her teaching style is horrible--she is unapproachable and just plain BORING!
horrible class with this woman, i dread walking to beck hall tues and thurs because of this class. her teaching methods are beyond horrible and she is so boring and uninteresting, she is actually teaching at this very moment and i am unenthused and can't stand her. don't take this class, you will not learn anything from her, just buy the text book.
One of the worst teachers I've had at rutgers. She constantly repeats herself during lectures and actually studders if she isn't reading right from her notes because she's hopeless at lecturing. If you really want an A it is helpful to go to class but if you just want to pass don't waste your time, just read the book
i actually disagree with the majority. you get 2exams, worth 50% each. theres 50 questions on each exam. if you go to class, take notes and do the readings, you can easily get an A. She repeats things over and over again so your bound to have it stuck in your head. the only bad thng is when she does the curve, it is limited to certain grade range
This class was an uttter misery, my worst nightmare. I would have to drag myself to go to this pitifully boring class every tuesday and thursday all the way to livingston, just to hear her read right from the powerpoint. honestly read the textbook and your good. going to class is useless.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. it's a complete waste of time. she is SOOOO BORING!!! i think this is the only class i've ever taken at RU that i just hated coming to every tuesday and thursday. the material is okay you can probably do well by reading the book. she can be especially RUDE at times for no reason so it's not even worth the hassle.
Honestly I really hope this teacher professor retires, she is the worst and no one should take her class. All she does is talk about her slide show and she scrolls through the slides soo fast. USELESS class. Learned nothing

DO NOT TAKE IT WITH HER! She is incredibly boring, and incredibly bias. Doesn't put slides (that she reads off of) on Sakai so you MUST go to class. Tests are on the problems with theories instead of actual concepts. I have a B+ so far, but she is not engaging or kind teacher. Avoid her at all costs!
Nightmare. She hates against white students. Also talks pretty much ONLY about how black kids will never succeed because white people are the evil. Can't teach for her life and forces students to read a poorly written research book that she authored. Take Criminology with ANYONE else.
Although people have given this professor bad ratings, I really don't see why. Her lectures are simple and easy to follow and she is always open to discussion during class. Yes she does tend to preach her own ideas and stutters sometimes but she goes into depth with her slides and is a phD from U of Chicago so she knows what shes talking about.
This class sounded very interesting but she didn't deliver. The lectures were easy to follow but dry and the book isn't necessary. She only has two exams, which consist of 4 vocab and 2 short answers to test EVERYTHING you learn. She is unwilling to help students, refused to open the Sakai chat room, grades harshly and doesn't explain her rubric.
Not the most interesting class in the world, nor the most helpful professor, but it's an easy class. The information is very straightforward. I just read over all of the notes from class and got the highest grade on midterm. Know the powerpoints well (which she posts) and an A is very attainable (esp. with the huge curve). Attendance not mandatory.
Good professor, bad attitude. Does not post slides, so class is mandatory. Not approachable bc she doesn't seem to want to be there. I learned a lot, but I wish Covington would have just slowed down instead of being nasty bc someone asked her to go back to the previous slide. Final noncumulative, but still fairly difficult. Study and you'll do fine
This teacher was great. Although she was difficult i felt i learned the most in her class. She makes you work hard to earn your grade and class is mandatory because she doesn't post slides. But if you attend class and study just the notes an A is attainable.
I hated this class and prof. You must attend to get her notes, which i personally thought were not very specific or descriptive. Had a hard time differentiating theories. She does give an alright curve, but you really need to work hard for your grade. She isnt helpful and rarely actually answers questions. Take it with someone else!!!!!!!!
I absolutely dread going to this class every week. Her notes are confusing and dry and all she does is talk in a monotone, boring voice about theories that are so hard to differentiate for an hour and 20 minutes straight. Only 2 exams that are extremely hard, even with the curve. Take it with ANYONE else. It's not worth the misery.
Not an easy A. She doesn't post slides. I don't think she's a bad teacher; I just don't think this is a class for lazy students . 2 exams each 50% of your grade. If you take it, make sure you know the theorists names and which theories are associated with them. Exams are HARD if you can't associate a theory with their proper theorist! She curves.

Her slides are full of irrelevent information, like percentages and stats that you will never see on an exam. Extremely unorganized professor and talks down to students. Only person that could actually make drugs boring to a college student.
Honestly, she isn't an easy A, but she will teach you a lot. If you're in college to find the easiest classes- no don't take this because you have to study. However, I only studied for two days and ended up with a B for the midterm. Go to class, it helps. She doesn't take attendance but that doesn't matter- go. Shes really clear about the exam.
The only professor that can make drugs and violence boring. She talks in monotone the whole class, in which only 10 people show up to. The info is straight forward but she makes it sound complicated. Reading the power points yourself is the best bet, not an easy a.
Avoid this class! She has to be the worst professor at Rutgers. Play the lottery if you actually sit in a full lecture without wanting to pull your hair out or fall asleep.
do not take her. she doesn't care about students and lectures are very long and dry. all you learn is theories, nothing interesting. tests are mid-term and final, non cumulative. if you do take her, she has her own book as a material in the syllabus, which you do not even need - she just wants to make a profit. overall not a good class
She is boring, monotone, etc. You've read the other reviews. This, however, was an easy course for when I took her. She has all her slides on the rutgers website electures under her name. Study the slides. I had her for criminology. She told us to remember the theorist, name of theory, positives/negatives of it etc.. Did that from slides passed, A+
She's an excellent teacher. The key word here is teacher - she actually teaches the material! She does not spend lecture picking on students or doing group work like most classes. Instead, she actually teaches material. The exams were solely based on her slides and also some subtle things not mentioned in lecture. I learned a lot in this class.
I would never take her again. She is not a good teacher at all. I would highly recommend taking anyone but her. She has to be the worst teacher I have encountered throughout my college career. She does not clearly answer questions, does not reply to emails, boring and can be rude.
Okay so convington isnt HORRIBLE. she TEACHES (more than what will ever be on the exam. that being said, you really dont have to attend class to do well in criminology. as long as you go over powerpoints and read a bit (dont need to buy her book)) just read and learn the material solidly by yourself and you can get a good grade. 2 exams only STUDY!

She does not care about her students. She reads right off the powerpoint and she manages to make sociology of drug use a boring class. I would highly recommend you take another class. Very vague when giving guidance on what to study on the exam. Midterm and final are your only grades so you have to go to class.
This class is straight lecture and only lecture. No silly group work unlike most classes, which I respect because group work is usually ineffectual. A massive amount of readings but you don't need to do all of them since she goes over every single one in lecture. Just go to class and do some of the readings. Only graded by 2 open ended exams.

Professor Covington is the worst professor ever. She does not show any interest in the material, she shows up late and nonchalant, and is all around the complete opposite of what a professor should strive to be. If you can, avoid taking her at all costs. Id rather drop out then sit in one of her lectures again.
The entire course is graded on a midterm and final exam (50 points each). There is no review for either exam, all she does is read the slides word for word during lectures, she is disorganized and frequently begins class late, she is disrespectful to students who ask questions or share opinions.
Very tough grader on open ended exams. Literally all questions were open ended in this class: Sociology of Drug Use. I studied a ton, yet still didn't do that great. Only two exams (which makes it a bit easier cuz no group work, etc.). Very lecture-heavy. Knowledable professor but needs to improve the structure of the class and exams...
Took her for Sociology of Drug Use which is actually a very interesting class but she makes it so boring. Barely an interaction with the class and reads notes word by word. Very dull and monotone, only a midterm and final but there is a lot of content. If you want a class to sit on your computer and play trivia games this is the class to take.
She stands in front of the class and just lectures, she doesn't care about you. Best results: I went to every class even though attendance was not taken, for the midterm I handwrote all my notes, for the final I typed them, copied every in-class slide word for word. Don't buy the textbooks lmao. She posts the readings online. Basic cramming class.
Despite learning a lot in this class, it was hard. There are a lot of readings and notes to take. There is a midterm and final exam that is not cumulative, and each exam is 50% of your grade (and the exams are quite hard). For class, every day will be a lecture and her voice is very monotone.
Professor Covington reads off of her powerpoints and is very dull making it really difficult to focus in class. She only gives 2 tests that makeup your grade (no attendance grade) and the tests cover a lot of info. This class was terrible and I recommend finding any other teacher. If you take this class pay attention bc there is so much material.
Covington is by far & easily the worst professor I have ever had. Her lectures are boring, her voice is monotone, & she gets annoyed by questions. She also does not understand what students are saying or asking, because she fails to listen or relies on her own opinions & disregards them. There are only 2 exams & they are very hard. Covington made a seemingly interesting topic (drug use) boring. Her lectures are monotone with b&w powerpoints, and she will drone on and on for one topic all class, making it overkill. You'd think that topic would be on the exam, but instead the exams were mini essays on trivial things that we covered very briefly. Idk anyone who got an A this sem
im very mad. Covington had taken away all my enthusiasm for criminology (and honestly life). Less than 10 people show up for lectures, the people that do show up are are snoring next to me and she has no interaction with her students. I honestly cannot believe that she still teaches at RU
SHOW UP TO CLASS - attendance isn't mandatory but you need to actually go to class to understand the material better. If you have this prof, make a group chat with your classmates and share notes with each other. When I took the class, the midterm and lecture were each 50%, no extra credit given. Pay attention, take notes. You should be okay.
This professor will put you to sleep! She shows up late for class or shows up on time and takes forever to put up her PowerPoint. The slides are unnecessarily long and repetitive. She will not send or post slides on Canvas because she believes we are "old enough to take notes", so take your own or find a classmate who can send them if needed.
She only lectures and only gives 2 exams to make your entire grade. You will be put to sleep during her lectures and she tends to show up late.
Lectures are extremely dry. She is late to class often and you are graded only on the midterm and final. Would not recommend her but if you have to take this course with her, I highly recommend making friends in the class and sharing pictures of the slideshow so you don't have to go to every class and be bored to death.
i'm a CS student so i had to take a few rigorous courses. i stumbled upon criminology and thought it would be cool to take a non-STEM class to raise my GPA. little did i know that this would be the class to lower my GPA and be my lowest grade out of all my classes! all covington does is talk monotonously and grade you on two tests. avoid her!!

If you're looking for a criminology professor, find another one! Her lectures are very boring, doesn't engage really with the class and comes to class almost 10 minutes late every time not seeming to care. Graded our final exams totally wrong, didn't know then said it was our problem to figure out our grades.
The worst professor I have ever had. She just reads a PowerPoint, that's it. You don't even have to go to the class because it does not matter. I guarantee she does not know one of her students names. She just gives a mid term and final for your grade, and its so hard. You learn nothing. Worst professor, I am warning you now to not take her.

The class is based on 2 things, a midterm and final. Although both exams are taken online and you have access to the textbook it isn't sufficient. The class average for the midterm was a 66 so that says enough about her teachings. Attendance doesn't matter and the lectures are pointless. If you're able to take the class with someone else, do so.
I have no idea why people are so mad. Yes her lectures are very boring and dense. But if you take good notes and listen to her lecture you can get an A no problem. Everything in her criminology class is up for grabs on the test. Most of her questions are more application based then root memorization.

Attendance was mandatory, textbook isn't necessary. The only grades were the midterm and final which both were curved. Lectures were just her reading off the slides and everyone copying it down because she does not upload files until before exams. She's very nitpicky with grading. If you go to lecture and copy the notes then you'll pass.
i'm sorry but she does NOT wanna be teaching and you can tell. I had to step out of lectures several times cause I would start to fall asleep. She just stands there and reads in a monotone voice and the exams are tough. I would study the notes for hours and still get 70s on the exams. Idk just save yourself
She is the worst professor I've ever had. Her lectures are mind-numbingly boring; she just stands there and reads off the slide. All exams are handwritten and in person, which is standard, but I broke my dominant hand wrist midway through the semester, and she was not accommodating at all. She might as well have told me to go off myself.
