Fantastic teacher! Can't say enough good things about her.
She is a great teacher at CCSN.
Teaches like a high school teacher. Must ask for permission to go to the bathroom, no hats, she dismisses the class not the clock.
Great teacher, does treat the class like H.S., but most of the students in a 101 act like it anyways. Just do the work.
Great teacher. I would definatly reccomend!
Great professor. Tells EVERYTHING as if she were either there, or knew someone who was. Everything is a story. Very interactive. Lot's of participation is needed. If your shy or unenthused, probably not the greatest class for you.
Participation will get you an A no kidding i was exemting from the exam and i am surely not the brightest crayon in the box. Show up and participate No studying required!!! well maybe a little but thats it
She is so much fun and really enjoys teaching. I highly recommend her class and if possible take her Saturday class, she always brings in some kind of tasty treat!
I had Jeanette for both history's and she is one of the most wonderful teachers I had. If I had the chance to take more classes she teacches I would. She explains everything very well and is very intresting to hear stories of.. I was not very good at history and I understood so much in her two semesters.
Really nice, really fun. It's an easy "A". There is a lot of group work. She gives the class outlines for every chapter with key points and review worksheets that can be done in groups. The quizzes are straight from the review sheets. Easy Easy class. There is a presentation for the final grade.
Great Professor! Made history fun! I actually wanted to do the homework. Saturday AM class is outstanding! Goodies to eat! You must pay attention and interact with the class/participate. Thats all you need for an A.
She explains her teachings in great clarity and in a fun way! History for me before was B-O-R-I-N-G but she was able to "amend" my outlook in history! Highly recommended!!! By, the way...at the end of the semester, you might gain some pounds (she brings krispy kreme donuts and chocolates for everybody, every class)!
She was a great teacher. She is very knowledgable about all aspects of history and she makes it fun fun fun. She also brings donuts and cookies every week. However, there is a ton of homework. But hey, this is college, what do you expect.
Theres a lot of homework. Shes very hyper and if you dont LOVE history she gets offended. she jumps around class and tries to get you to be as hyper and active as she is. if your not, she deducts points.
Peof zaloom is wonderful.took her early saturday class(8-1050) and she made the time go by quickly.big on class particpation and if u do so u will earn the points. will offer forms of extra credit. SHE KNOWS HER SUBJECT.even if u dnt like history, u will learn someting. a lil heavy on the class work, but she prefers the usege of smaller/cheap book
She drove me crazy! She could be kind of rude at times but she was funny. She is very hyperactive. There is TONS of homework and at the end of the semester she has you do a presentation. Overall its pretty easy just alot of work. I ended up with an A.
Wonderful teacher!! I learned so much from her, she has a way of sucking you in while teaching. Easy to pass, just listen, her three hour class go faster than an hour and a half class. Lots of homework, but its all very simple.
This very pleasant woman is a former high school teacher, and it shows in the amount of homework she assigns, none of it hard. Pay attention, show up, and don't cut and paste your essays from Wikipedia and you'll be fine. I recommend her if you are just coming back to school after a break... or if you are rounding out an heavy math/sci schedule.
good teacher..lots of homework
Lots of Homework, and classwork. Do not take this class if you have a busy schedule.
Jeanette was amazing, at first i was skeptical, but after the first week and a half, i got used to how she taught. She makes learning history fun, and not boring. She can keep the class awake, all you have to do is the homework and its really not that much. Whats college withut homework? Dont complain about having to do it.
I hated history before I took her class. She knows her stuff, makes class fun, and made me want to learn about history bc she taught it in a way that made sense. Attendance is mand. bc it was a once a week class, and it seemed like alot of hw, but easy. always reviews right before tests, so if you pay attention u will do good.
The amount of work she gives is absurd. She is nice, however, very old school and treats the students as if they are still in middle school. The work seems to be given out for the sole purpose of busy work. She will hold you in class until the minute it is up..no early dismissals.
As long as you participate in class, you will get an "A"
She is amazing, I loved her class in contrast to my History 101 class. She does give a lot of homework but it's pretty easy. Her motto is repetition which really makes you retain the information. Her teaching style is different but great.
Jeanette is a fantastic professor! She made history come alive. I learned more in her class than any other. Granted the homework is a lot, but you learn a lot too. I had her both for 101 and 102. She is enthusiastic and loves to teach.
I loved this class, Jeanette is an amazing teacher and if I wasnt graduating I would totally take her again. The homework is pretty simple but it helps to get the facts to stick in your head. I could truly tell that she enjoys teaching and wants to get her students interested in history.
FANTASTIC professor. Read the handouts, make an intelligent comment once in a while, and this is an easy, interesting, upbeat class. Teacher has SO much energy, she really livens up the subject and makes it genuinely fun.
Jeanette makes history interesting, fun, and easy to understand. You WILL learn. She really emphasizes how important history is. Participation is key. Handouts are a must in this class! Classes are sat in mini groups among students which is extremely helpful and you get to know you peers this way. I HIGHLY recommend her!
THE BEST!
Great teacher
History is not my thing...never had any interest in it at all (I'm a science nerd) I attended Ms Zaloom's history 101 & 102 and enjoyed both. I felt that she taught in a way that actually made me want to learn the material. Her classes are fun and she made history interesting! One of the best instructors I've had.
and 102. It's been several years since I took both courses on Saturdays. She instilled a passion for history that I totally did not have. you hunger for more. Excellent instructor, never boring, fun - take her for both - highly recommend!!
EXTREAMLY KNOWLEGABLE & NEVER BORING! A LOT OF HW, -BUT- I GOT AN A & ACTUALLY HAVE KNOWLEDGE TO SHOW FOR IT
If you liked grade school...take her class. She treats you like you are 10. Gives out so much tedious HW that will make you throw a rock at something. If you miss ANY of her class-even just HALF the class, she will give you a B!!! I did everything thing she asked of BUT I have demanding career so I missed class resulting in a B for the class.
GREAT CLASS BUT A LOT OF WORK AND A LOT OF READING. IF YOU DO THE READING YOU WILL DO GREAT. READ EVERYTHING SHE GIVES YOU. GREAT TEACHER, NOT AN EASY A.
There is a lot of work during class and tons of homework. However, she is a great teacher and I can honestly say I walked away more knowledgable in History than when i walked in. I would recommend her if you really want to learn something and seem more intelligent around History buffs. If you are lazy, don't bother. Great Professor!
There is a lot of work but it is all really simple. She requires participation but she makes it really easy to speak up. Great class and taking 102 with her.
Jeanette is straight-up awesome. She has the best sense of humor and she is friendly. There is a lot of work involved but she makes the class easier than anyone else could. TAKE HER CLASS. You will love her enthusiasm. Also, you can call her cell at any time (unless she's in class) and she'll answer. By far, she's one of CSN's finest.
This teacher is great! She truly loves history and has a passion for it which keeps things interesting. She gives a large workload, however, it is necessary in order to be able to retain the massive amount of info she presents. She puts forth extra effort into bringing snacks, pictures, and magazines related to the class discussion. Take her!
This class would be great if I was still in high school. Notebook checks, and glorified "Do-Now's" in combination with a complete lack of clarity in terms of assignments made this class next to useless. Oh and name tags. Ridiculous.
Don't take her. So much work that is a waste of time. She goes through presidents and tests us on the State constitution. I understand she wants us to be informed but this is a U.S. history class. Not Nevada history. Just so much work and notebook checks. Am I in high school still? Seriously.
She has experience in the subject, she has many notes for you to use for resources.Rarely use book.Quiz/Tests are base from the HW always. Binder checks for notes she given us have till final day for full grade. Did I mention there was always snacks for us. HW,Quizzes, participation,& attendance are your grades do them & you'll get the grade you want
Took her for two semesters and the first half of the first semester i could kot stand her! However, she women is an amazing teach who is passionate about her subjectDo what she tells you don't interrupt class and show up and you'll do fine. By the end of my first semester she was the best teacher I had and was said the last day of may lasy class.
I loved this class besides the act that the teacher is extremely rude. She has temper tantrums to the point of getting red in the face, shaking, and gritting her teeth while she says nasty things to one and sometimes all students. Do yourself a favour a skip the absurd teaching methods of this woman. She clearly needs to take comm 101 again.
She is seriously one of my favorite teachers of my three year experience. Be ready to work, but with that said you do all the work you will get an easy a, also be prepared for extra credit.
Teacher is extremely passionate about History, and very knowledgeable. However she gets irritated when her class isn't responding like she believes they should be. Lots of reading, and sometimes correct answers are marked wrong, because they were not worded like she wanted them to be. Grading is unclear, did not know final grade until posted.
This was by far the worst class I have taken in college. If you like a professor that can't communicate well, is technologically inept, as well as patronizing, sign up now! There's a lot of reading, many worksheets, "binder checks", and more. Compounded with work in other classes, it definitely got hectic.
High school again. towns of reading. quiz every class. lots Homework and they are tough.
I took Prof. Zaloom over the summer and I really enjoyed her class. No need for the textbook, she will provide the material. She has you provide a binder to contain her materials and she does do binder checks. Her lectures were interesting and she is very passionate about American history. Lots of reading, easy quizzes. Great class.
I can only assume the positive remarks are from high school students. I usually love history, but Professor Zaloom made it a living nightmare. Notebook checks and worksheets just like others have said, make it just like grade school. In this class time drags on.
The class was great. The professor was very knowledgeable and much appreciated on how dedicated and passionate she is about the subject. She did give a lot of homework but it was needed to accomplish the goal which is to learn the American history. She made learning fun and had the whole class participating which created a friendly atmosphere.
By far the worst class I've ever taken. It's as if the clock stood still. I would expect more out of a college course than death by worksheet, which Professor Zaloom loves. If you don't mind that, you'll be fine, but after taken other courses I wasn't ready to be treated like a middle schooler. She frequently talked to us like we were children.
Honestly, I can actually say that she was my favorite teacher. She is hilarious, she has the best lectures, and gives extra credit. There is lots of homework but it helps for the quizes and the exams. She loves group activities but it's fun. If you do the work, you will pass. She is very caring and is flexible with things. You will NOT regret it!!
Best thing about her is her passion!! But, it reminds me a lot of a high school class. A lot of worksheets, participation is required in discussions.. However, lots of group quizzes, extra credit offered basically every class.. As long as you go and do your worksheets, you will pass.
She is very passionate about this class!! She gives extra credit and lots of homework (atleast 3 pages of book work each week)! She DOES NOT use canvas and does not use email. She gives you her phone number to call her. She is very clear not to ask her what your grade is. Lots of group work
don't skip class. tests are easy. a lot of group work that counts for participation it's not hard. has a test every class which are easy. shows a lot of videos. she loves history which makes her talk a lot. only has 1 project which is to write 1 page on some museum you visited.
This class is awful, professor is ageist, nothing is concise, we've watched the same videos probably four times. Doubled up on homework over spring break. She shouts like one of those ignorant people who is speaking to someone in a foreign language. Shouting repeatedly does not make it more understandable. This class is total drudgery take online.
AMAZING class. She talks about life and ties it into history super awesome. Has so much wisdom and experiences to share about history as a whole. Do your work. Pay attention. Youll ace this class.
Great professor, always gives great lectures and will always be glad to give you feedback.
There is so much I want to say about Professor Zaloom. She is incredible!! Her lectures are so engaging and entertaining, she makes history enjoyable. I actually feel smarter. She is a firm believer of repetition, so you will get worksheets. But she prints out all her work for you so literally all you do is fill in blanks and memorize the info!
Professor Zaloom (Jeanette) is a great History instructor. She teaches history in a way that is fun and entertaining. She provides all of you classwork so there is no need to buy books for this class. She truly wants all of her students to get a good understanding of how our country and our government was formed and how they work.
She gives out 3-4 full pages of homework thats only worth 10 points thats so exhausting to finish and wont put that grade into canvas so that it will count towards your grade. She made comments on all my assignments that made me feel like im dumb when i actually tried my best. Theres a test every single week. Made me hate history for life .
Easy class , somehow even tho its easy you still learn., participation and attendance are most important to her. Quiz and hw each week are easy and answers are given in lecture. She encourages and will give active feedback as much as you seek her out. Only way to fail is if you are lazy and dont show up and turn in anything.
Highly recommend not taking the class, She doesn't use canvas or email so if you don't get her feedback/emails you are now dumb and irresponsible and she'll grade your assignments lower because of it. She hasn't updated her canvas files in years but when you get confused its your fault. Overall she should either retire or quit.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! She makes many mistakes when teaching her class and assigning class work and homework. If anyone in the class says anything about her mistake, she then yells at the class and its always somebody else's fault. She is very disrespectful towards students. She will mark off points if she thinks you googled, even if correct answer
Do not take her class. She is a very old and bitter person. I do not know why she has so many positive reviews because she is the worst professor I have ever had. She is very disrespectful and always has an attitude. She will mark off points if you don't answer a very specific way. Overall, she needs to retire.
I genuinely don't get the bad reviews, because Jeanette taught me more in a semester than ALL my years in school growing up. Her passion for the subject makes her an incredible source of knowledge, though her sense of humor and teaching style may not be for everyone. Speak up during lectures, read EVERYTHING, and don't be lazy! She's phenomenal~
I'm gonna start off with saying that this class was incredibly easy. All the material is pretty basic and her discussion were hard to follow. However, she is very critical. She will go at you for saying the tiniest thing wrong and it's very discouraging in a class that requires participation
1 online quiz/week based on the homework. Attendance and participation matters a lot! Worksheet/reading heavy. She was kind of terrifying, but very caring and willing to work with those who genuinely want to learn, tough love. But I learned so much and it is obvious she is very passionate. Take if you want to learn, not an easy A, but fs possible.
The instructor is rude and passive-aggressive towards her students. Many times she made out-of-pocket commentary and would make learning very difficult. I felt very antagonized by her behavior and did not feel compelled to learn in this class. She knows history well and it would have been fun to learn from her if commentary was kept to a minimum.
Very simple class. Not hard to fail unless you never show up/dont turn work in/ not respectful. Participation AND attendance are 2 separate grades. She can be passive aggressive but most of the time its if youre out of line.very clear about expectations.not test heavy. no final.great class if you genuinely want to learn about history.
Took IRL fall sem 2023. If you are looking for an EASY A, THIS IS NOT IT. She is very off putting at first, but TRULY a good lady once you get to know her. Take this class if you want to ACTUALLY learn history. Attendance & participation are separate, and count for a LARGE part of your grade. SHOW UP/PARTICIPATE FOR A GOOD GRADE. Boring class 4 me
do NOT take this prof. fidgeting with your hands? missing a singular hw question? checking a text from your sick mom? expect to be called out, shamed, and ridiculed. have to miss class? thats a personal offense against her. also, if you hold a viewpoint separate from her own (or if you are literally any minority), beware.
Can't keep current events and politics out of the class.
this is easily one of the worst teachers i have ever had. she is extremely evil and racist and i would rather end it all than step foot into her class again. all she likes to do is humiliate people and talk super fast. if you want to hate yourself then i would definitely recommend. its clear she peaked in highschool and shes got to go asap
If you are thinking about taking her class, dont.
BAD BAD TEACHER
dont do it.
someone fire her plz
she shouldve been gone csn needs to eliminate her
zontttt zoo itzzzz
i cant even begin to express how i feel about her. She is the worst teacher i have ever had.
If I had a time machine, I wouldn't warn anyone about disasters—I'd just tell myself not to take this class.
Educational in the sense that I now know what rage, injustice, and regret feel like on a weekly basis.
Thought this class would expand my mind. It just expanded my therapy bill.
Every moment in this class drained a piece of my soul. Her voice made the walls cry, and her bias was louder than the syllabus. If bitterness had a face, it would hold office hours Tuesdays at 3.
Being in her class felt like being stuck in a history book written by a villain. Cold, condescending, and smug beyond belief. She teaches with the passion of a haunted typewriter and the warmth of a courtroom.
Nothing about this class resembled education. It was power-tripping, close-minded performance art led by someone who mistakes cruelty for intellect. If she taught kindness, it would be by accident.
A vulture in human form, she perches upon the rotted throne of tenure, feeding on the hope of youth. Her breath withers joy, her voice curdles time. I emerged from her chamber older, colder, and thrice betrayed
Her lessons are etched in bile and delivered with the joy of a crow pecking at the bones of the living. I left her class not wiser, but cursed. Her presence alone bends light and silences laughter.
Her soul is a void lined with dust and teeth. She doesn't teach—she drains. A leech in a blouse, hiding centuries of venom behind a thin smile. If you listen too long, your hope dies. I've seen shadows warmer than her.
She speaks like broken glass grinding through a wound. Her cruelty is not passive—it's practiced. She knows what she's doing. She enjoys it. She eats light. She crushes joy. She is what failure looks like in human form.
If evil had a classroom, this would be it. The air changed when she entered, like the world knew something had gone terribly wrong. She teaches like she's casting spells meant to silence, belittle, and break.
I left this class feeling unclean. Her words are knives, and she twists them with precision. She delights in discomfort. She builds herself taller by crushing others. Her presence alone should be studied as a psychological weapon.
Sitting in her class felt like being dissected slowly with a spoon. You don't leave enlightened—you leave hollow, like something essential was scraped out while she smiled and kept talking. I still feel her voice in my skull.
Her classroom is a crypt where hope goes to rot. She speaks like a dead bird stuffed with perfume. Behind her eyes is nothing. I mean nothing. The only thing she teaches is how to survive slow emotional starvation.
I watched her break a student so quietly no one noticed until he stopped speaking altogether. That's her talent—slow, surgical devastation dressed as discipline. She doesn't raise her voice. She drains your will to stand.
Her eyes are empty in a way that makes you wonder if anything ever lived there. When she laughs, it's like meat tearing. She teaches with the calm certainty of a butcher who never washes her hands.
Her mind is a graveyard and her words are crows picking at the dead. You come to class whole and leave in pieces, scattered across the semester like teeth in dirt. She doesn't remember names. She remembers weaknesses.
She teaches like she's embalming you. Slowly, methodically, she removes everything warm and alive until you're preserved in a numb shell of confusion and shame. If there's a hell for minds, she already owns the deed.
Not nice lady
of every teacher i have ever had, this one is the absolute worst.
dont take the class.
absolutely treacherous
csn do something and remove her please
Her words dripped into my skull like warm grease, pooling behind my eyes. I swear I could feel her smile whenever I flinched. There's rot in her. Real rot. The kind you smell before you see it.
Being in her class felt like being eaten alive, but slowly, and from the inside. You don't notice the decay at first—then one day, you open your mouth to speak and only dust comes out.
Attending her class is like watching your mind rot alive; each syllable she utters peels back your sanity like skin from fruit, leaving only twitching nerves for her to prod with dull contempt. The stench of her cruelty follows you home, seeps into dreams, poisons dawn.
She lectures with the calm relish of a surgeon removing hope without anesthesia. You feel every snip, every clamp on your curiosity, until wonder lies on a cold tray, still twitching while she smiles and scribbles your autopsy across the syllabus.
Her classroom is a vivarium where dreams are pinned alive, wings fluttering feebly while she catalogs their suffering. Her words drip formaldehyde; by semester's end you are a glass eyed exhibit, floating beside the others she has preserved in despair.
Watching her teach is like witnessing a heart beat outside its body, grotesque, mesmerizing, wrong. She extracts your joy with invisible hooks, lines it up on the blackboard, and lets it blacken under fluorescent lights while the class applauds in terrified silence.
The room chills when she arrives; even the clock seems afraid to tick too loudly. She nurtures failure the way others nurture seedlings, watering it with disdain until hope wilts and falls away in soft grey flakes onto the deserted floor of ambition.
Her voice is a slow drip of acid eating through every question you dare to ask. By the time class ends, understanding has dissolved, leaving only a raw ache where curiosity used to sit. She bottles that ache and keeps it like a trophy on her desk.
Each assignment she returns feels damp, as though soaked in the cold sweat of regret. The red ink seems to pulse, spelling out your inadequacy. I swear the pages reek of grave dirt; she buries potential and hoists disappointment like a flag above the ruins.
Her smile is a trapdoor; once it snaps shut the floor of possibility vanishes beneath you. You fall long enough to hear her laughter echo off the walls, then land in the bones of past students who once believed they could climb back up.
Imagine mold given tenure, capable of speech, resentful of everything clean and bright. That is her. She spreads spores of despair with every lecture, blooming on your confidence until it collapses under a thick black fuzz of confirmed worthlessness.
She collects apologies she never intends to give and stacks them inside your head like bricks, building a prison you will continue to carry after graduation. There is no parole; her lessons are life sentences served in self doubt and sleepless recollection.
do not take this class.
i took permanent psychic damage from this class. she treats her students very poorly. heed the other reviews. i am literally on my hands and knees BEGGING you to find a different professor. run while you still can.
jeanette made me drop out of college
I took her class in my first semester of duel enrollment last year it was difficult you need to read the material which most of the answers to the homework are in the readings just show up attendance is mandatory quizzes at the end or beginning of class the only thing I did not like with was when she assumed young people did not know that much.
She assumes a lot of the time that all of her students are your average Christian patriot. While somewhat understandable given the subject of the class, she showed a sermon in class since it tied into our learning about the Star-Spangled Banner. Very opinionated. Made me feel unsafe as part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
pro tip: take prof. troy beals instead you're welcome
Jeanette is a great professor!* (*If you like professors that are cruel to their students and have questionable morals.)
id rather live through the entirety of whats covered in HIST102 than take this class for one more day. she is. so bad. at teaching. there aren't enough words in the english language to explain how bad it is. why am i paying. FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS. to listen to this sham preach at me. whenn i should be learning about HISTORY.
So we've all been personally victimised by Prof. Zaloom??? Glad to know she's fair at least...........
take david terry instead! he's one of the best professors i've ever had :D
REF DO SOMETHING
jeanette, consider ur fields SALTED
Do NOT take this class. She pretty much spends half the class belittling everyone, and makes it very hard to learn. It is a long, grueling class that I would NEVER recommend to anyone. The absolute only positive of this class, if you have to take it, is that the curriculum isn't TOO hard if you focus and study.
Please do NOT take this class; you will regret it. She spends half the class belittling everyone, which makes it very hard to learn; she contradicts her expectations almost every class, therefore it's hard to keep up wiht what she wants. I would NEVER recommend this class to anyone, and I really think she should be removed.
Prof Zaloom is very disrespectful and downgrading to her students. She's always telling us how dumb we are, and gets upset if you ask questions. Not clear on grading criteria, (she doesn't even know what we're doing for our final yet.) All work is handwritten, and each quiz consists of anything from the course she wants to put on it.
Pro: the class is an easy A Con: prof zaloom makes it actually insufferable. quite frankly i think she's TRYING to convince ppl to drop. Verdict: take a dif. professor
ok maybe i lied about it being an easy a. but still. hist 102 is way easier when not taught by zaloom. seek knowledge elsewhere.
OMG this teacher is HORRIBLE. She mixed up my grade with my twin's after I told her like 5 times, then blamed ME. She hates Gen Z so bad that if you don't know some 300-year-old video, she acts like you personally offended her soul. It's ridiculous. – Aliyah Scott
This class was an easy A as long as you showed up, participated HEAVILY, and completed work well. The professor is not very kind and not super good. If you can't find another class this one will get you a good grade but it's such a hassle and a little not worth it.
