Interesting topic, lectures could be a bit dull sometimes but good discussions. The entire course was just readings (which you can get away without doing) and discussing the topics in class. Instead of exams, there was just one 8-9 page research paper that we worked on all semester with progress evaluations once in a while. Overall, pretty easy.

Professor Shea is easily the most disorganized lecturer at UVM. She cannot complete a sentence without a 20 minute tangent about her love for China. Attendance is mandatory to watch her struggle with technology for the first 10 minutes every day. She is very kind, whimsical, believes that no student is wrong, but is an awful teacher.

This class is miserable. Attendance of lectures three times a week is mandatory. However, it feels like barely any time is spent on the actual lecture. The assignments are so convoluted, and the amount of work/readings she assigns makes it feel like she thinks this class should always be your number one priority.

I love her. She is so kind and wants everyone to succeed. Her assignments are easy to compete but they have a lot of instructions. She's very passionate.

Very fascinating lectures with great guest speakers. Her background is something to learn from and she has a lot of insight to global health. Class mandatory and multiple large papers and exams however many grade balance out.

Shea understands the content and is nice, but the lectures are insufferable. Attendance is mandatory and it feels like the same lectures are repeated every day. The papers aren't difficult, but very tedious and unorganized. I pretty much wing every assignment and hope I did it right. The TAs grade well bc they understand how bad this class is.

She seems to ramble endlessly about the assignments and adds so much detail in the directions that if feels impossible to even begin to write. The papers we have to write follow such a strict outline that I often had to find ways to tie in class materials even when they didn't fit

Professor Shea is unbearably intolerable to listen to as all 50 minutes of her lectures are spent on finding new ways to make a simple written assignment incredibly difficult. It is incredibly unfortunate that attendance is mandatory for this class, however, I was able to get around it some days by driving to the Perkins lot and clicking in there.

Jeanne is very passionate and super sweet! The assignments are too long and intense, and she spends too long discussing them in class when all the instructions are on Brightpsace, and it would be more interesting to hear lectures of the content. Go to class, turn things in on time, and you will get an A! She is funny and entertaining in class lol!

I like her a lot- I think she's very sweet, and incredibly passionate about her field. Her assignments are overexplained, but the actual workload is very manageable, with moderate amounts of reading imo. Interesting case studies, guest speakers and relatively lenient grading!

Overall I think that Professor Shea is excellent. She is extremely kind and passionate about her work. However, this class is incredibly homework heavy. There is a reading due almost every class (usually 20-100 pages) and three big papers due over the semester. Her lecturing is definitely interesting.

IMO her RMP kinda low; she's just average. Kind woman, passionate about subject. Wants students to succeed. Assignments are WELL detailed. Follow the rubric and you'll be fine. A lot of reading, can get by without doing it. Lectures are boring but you can just zone out. Material is repetitive. 2 take home quizzes, 2 essays, 1 final project.

Lowkey one of the worst professors I have ever had. Her lectures are genuinely useless but she had mandatory attendence. The assignments she gives have confusing instructions and is rude when you inevitably get confused on an assignment. TAs are chill but they can only do so much

Her lectures are pretty interesting except she tends to go off topic on long tangents which makes it more difficult to focus. Quizzes are at-home and super easy. Worst part of this class is the actual assignments - instructions for the papers are so bulky sometimes are 12 pages long, and very structured. Don't take this class if you dont need to

when prof shea actually got into the topics we were supposed to go over it was really interesting but most of the time class got taken over by really unnecessary stuff. She gave really in depth details for assignments which is helpful but then she would go over them in each class. If you care abt global health its easy to deal with her nonsense.

Do not take this class unless you must. She has been getting the same bad feedback for 20+ years. We spent a ridiculous amount of time hearing her repeat convoluted instructions and explain bewildering rubrics for her assignments, and minimal time learning about global health by comparison. The only class I've ever dreaded attending.
