Fairly decent teacher, kind of intimidating though and if you go to get help she makes you feel stupid. This class is lecture based, you must take EXCELLENT notes and study them for the three non-cumulative tests. She gives weekly hw assignments and drops the two lowest (hw) grades

Marvelous Professor with an indeph understanding of both mathamatics and economics. I learned Stat from here in just over an hour. Best investment that COLA has made in it's Economic Program, IMHO
She's very strict and her tests are totally absurd- don't take her, instead take Mitchell Redlo or Lee.
Knows her stuff, you need your notes, fall behind get help from her imediatly.
Prof. Mitchell knows what she is talking about. Her lecture style makes it easy for you to take notes, and her reviews that she gives before tests let you know what you will be expecting. 3 tests a quarter (no real final). "Quizzes" once a week that are take-home. Very helpful if you have any problems.
Decent Prof. Fair grading policy. You must go to class and take good notes!
She flys through concepts, but that is the nature of the class. You must take thorough notes and go to lectures. Only bad thing is there are 2 test: midterm and final. So if you mess up one, youre kinda screwed. She is really nice tho, and very helpful if need it. You just have to keep up!
I had her for ecnonomics. She was awful. She not keep you interested and she moved too fast in class. if you didn't answer a question perfectly the way she wanted it, she would embarass you in class. Was not helpful on tests. Made tests 3 questions, so if you missed one you could not get partial credit and you then got a C on it!
Difficult teacher but always willing to help Easy assighnments help your grade
If you are in the Learning Community don't miss her class! However, if your not one of the lucky few steer clear of her. She wont cut you any breaks like she will for the learning community students.
Study hard, rewrite class notes and you will do fine. You learn alot in this class.
She is tough, while she goes over the material well in class, if you aren't used to her tests, expect to do poorly on your first midterm. Another evaluator said it as well, she only has 3-4 questions per test, so if you get only a part of the question wrong, you get no partial credit, and you end up getting a C. Garbage, dont take the risk, take so
Not a mean person, just didn't cut you breaks when you did tests. Tests were comprised of 3-4 questions so you had to do well on the tests to pass the class. Same thing with the final, was only 4 questions.
Although extremely liberal a very good professor overall. Attend every class and take notes and you should be fine for tests. Can be rude but also funny. Leads steroetypical college class with lectures. Does not use notes and is a very intelligent professor.
She is GREAT at explaining economics. She always has a real-life to relate everything with. Some cons are she has the toughest exams, be prepared to do horrible on ur first test with her especially if you haven't taken her before. Also she is the type of the teacher that thinks whatever she says is correct and dismisses your opinion on a subject.
LOVE HER!!! hard but sooo worth it.
I loved her class. She kept me intrested throughout the whole quarter, did not miss a lecture. She knows the stuff and gives you another perspective of what is given in the text, though I did not use as much because if you want to well in her class - attend, take notes and listen carefully what she says. Greatest teacher I have ever had!
She is a great profeessor. Other students I know struggle so much with these concepts, but with her teaching, its not as hard.
Dr Mitchell had a 4.0 as a double major - two facts she makes you well aware of from day one. In the field of economics, Dr. Mitchell is knowledgeable, however one should avoid taking anything else for face value (e.g. Mexico a memeber of OPEC). You also get the idea she probably reads sites like ratemyprofessor so, hi Mitchell
Awesome teacher!! Hard and a lot of work but it's worth all of my time and effort. If you put in the studying time and attend all the classes, there's no reason you should not do well in her class. She is a great professor!! I absolutely LOVE her classes!
So stressful
Excellent teacher but you have to work for the A. Engaging professor that knows her****, but also likes to digress and have fun. To get an A, I studied between 7-10 hours per test. I've taken 3 classes with her and all were similar taught similarly.
excellent teacher she outlines whats going to happen in class and tells how to pass it. She explains how she grades. she keeps students interested with by asking questions. The assignments can be hard but she tells you exactly how to do them favorite teacher
BEST PROF AT RIT!! I took Intro to Micro, Macro, Forecasting, History of Econ Thought and Int'l Tade & Finance. She teaches all of the classes very similarly. She knows her stuff & if you put in the effort, you can learn a lot & have fun. I switched from a Marketing major to an Econ major because of Dr. Mitchell. She's my favorite teacher by far!
I had her for macro. I would put this class in my top 5 classes I got the most out of in my 4 years in college. Homework is long but readings are extremely relevant. Online homework is easy and boosts your grade. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Skills in researching economic data you learn in class are invaluable to anyone in the business field
She is a very hard professor, but you will learn A LOT from her. Take good notes because that's how you will study. What she lectures is not in the book. There are 3 tests composed of 3-4 questions, and there is no partial credit. You will also have to do 5 take home quizzes. Don't take her if you're looking for an easy A. You will have to earn it.
It's a tough class, but you will definitely get a lot out of it. If you look past the desire to get an easy A, you'll find that this professor is extremely valuable.
My first online class, so I don't have much to compare to. Didn't contact students much, but if you contacted her she would answer your questions. Also, spelled everything out in syllabus and content on myCourses if you look for it.
Shes a very good teacher with lots of good information! Wish she helped out the deaf kids more because they had a hard time taking notes while she takes so many graphs! Overall good teacher, you have to earn your grade.
Good teacher for Economic Forecasting Lecture, and a relatively easy A if you just go to class and hand in the assignments on time. Heard horror stories about her in other classes, but for this particular class she was nice and tried to help the students as much as possible.
Awesome teacher!!! Helps students a lot and gives very clear lectures. 2 non-cumulative exams, including final.
She is an American patriot. Most of her lectures are based on politics decisions and all. She compliments American companies and their products but when it comes to international companies she trashes them. She choses who she would help.
Her lectures were way too fast for any layperson to the subject. Unless you have a 3 year background in economics, you probably won't understand her. She also had the audacity to tell me that my major was just like economics when I told her I couldn't keep up. My major? Computer Science.
Though her class is very difficult, Dr. Mitchell obviously knows a lot about economics. Don't take this class if you want an easy A, as you'll have to work hard for a good grade. However, you could have much worse teachers.
Good teacher, expect to learn a lot and work hard. Weekly quizzes and two non-cumulative tests including final. ALWAYS DO THE BONUS, IT WILL HELP!!!!
Hard class beware! Tests are very hard and homework can be very long.
Very clear with her expectations, which tend to be high.
One of the best professors I have had. Not the easiest class but she makes it very clear and fun.
She is a good teacher but grades hard. Do not listen to anyone but her because in her world only she is right. write down EVERYTHING she says word for word. Very hard teacher. Do Not take class if you are looking for an easy A because you will be disappointed.
She's a brilliant teacher and she lets you know it. Her tests aren't hard but she grades them very tough and doesn't allow much leeway on answers. She gives you plenty of opportunity for bonus so an A isn't hard, the TA review sessions are extremely helpful so go to those.
Avoid taking Mitchell if you value your grades at all. The class average on the final was a 42 and she didn't curve it at all. I felt like I learned more from the TA than her. Extremely tough to pull out an A.
Very tough grader, very high expectations of you and a very difficult class. Do not take if you are looking for an easy A, you most likely will not get it. The TA is more helpful than she is, so go to the TA review sessions. She does know her stuff, though. Don't recommend unless you don't want an A
While she really knew her stuff, she wasn't always clear, and when going to her for help, she wouldn't be all that helpful and kind of brushed you off. Average on final was a 42. Said offensive things in class on occasion, and in any conversation when I went for help, she could just be kind of rude.
While she really knew her stuff, she wasn't always clear, and when going to her for help, she wouldn't be all that helpful and kind of brushed you off. Average on final was a 42.
While a bit spacey at times, Mitchell clearly knew the material and was able to present online in uploaded lectures. Review sessions were very clear and similar to what would be on the test. Homework was a breeze, quizzes however, were incredibly lengthy and open ended. Hard to judge the tests but they were typically 8-10 questions with parts.
Certainly not an easy teacher. However if you attend every class, take good notes, and study you will be rewarded. Make sure you know your stuff before heading into a test because she is a harsh grader. Overall do not take if you're looking for an easy A, however if you're dedicated and interesting in learning more about Econ take it.
Very clear in the material & provided many examples. Loved how she'd tell us what kinds of questions were on the exams. IF YOU DO WELL ON THE FIRST EXAM DON'T JUST EXPECT TO JUST CRUZE THROUGH THE COURSE. She didn't use the textbook. The homework was easy, but the quizzes were terrible: SO HARD & LONG! She likes use the examples from class on exam.
Very interesting teacher. Loved her. Very VERY harsh grader but she gives a curve at the end to make up for it. tells you exactly what will be on the test which makes studying easier. TAKE HER CLASS!!!
Very tough professor. I barely got a C because of her curve. Tests are very tough. Do well on take home quizzes, extra credit and homework to bump your grade up. Test averages were 41,53,60
Very good professor, but definitely makes you work hard.
For the online class, Dr. Mitchell is unorganized and uncaring. Lectures posted online are several years old and poorly annotated. Grades aren't available (exam, assignment, or overall) without emailing the professor directly. She seems unwilling to help online students and inflexible with exams (despite not reserving a time in class registration).
An extremely tough grader. Extra credit assignments are a must-do. She expects very specific answers on tests and gives very little leeway for partial credit. In fact more likely than not you will not receive partial credit even though the tests are essay style. Always go to class. Would absolutely not take again
Professor Mitchell is NOT an easy grader, and you HAVE to attend every single class if you want a chance of doing well. However, she is a good professor and uses fun examples to lighten the mood and make connections. She's very political, definitely more liberal, so if that's not your thing, watch out. I would probably take a class with her again.
This is a general course that is required for almost all majors. So, if you really want to learn about macroeconomics, then go for it and take the class with her. You will learn a lot and you will enjoy it. But if you are taking this class to only to fulfill your requirement, and to (just do it), then stay away from her. She will ruin your semester!
Not the best, but comparing with other ECON profs at RIT, I give her a B-. She is funny, and you might learn and enjoy her lecture, but you're risking your GPA. Harsh grader; if you didn't write EXACTLY what she wants, she easily give you a D if not a zero, regardless of your effort. I bought 3 books based on the syllabus, 2 of them I didn't open.
Prof. Mitchell is the type of professor that requires you to do it her way or get a complete 0 on the problem. She's the type of professor that has a lot of knowledge but cannot communicate it to the students. If you miss one class, you are definitely behind. This class will pull down your GPA with avg exam scores of about 60-65%.
Professor Mitchell is not only a horrible professor, she is a horrible human being. She is very opinionated which reflects both in her lectures, and her grading of tests. If your opinion doesn't match hers, it's wrong. She also would constantly make fun of and discriminate students for supporting Trump. I'm surprised she still has a job.
Mitchell for her online MacroEconomics course has everything automated through myeconlab and recorded lectures. Her responses in e-mails was very limited, making learning for the class fall entirely on you. I earnestly wanted to learn more from this class, but ended up using google/textbook more than the professor I paid for.
Terrible professor, just terrible!
Amazing teacher one of the best professors Ive had. I got an A by asking her lots of questions during the tests and final, trust me it helps!! Also do the extra credit!! Tough grader but a hilarious, caring person.
She is a great professor, but a tough grader. She has online lectures that are very helpful if you miss class or just want to review for a test.
Her grading was unreasonably rigid and the exams were too difficult for a 200 level required course. I was putting more effort into this class before I dropped it than my 400 level classes. She also rants about politics way more than is reasonable. Unless you like hearing misguided political views and unnecessary work, don't take her.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. She doesn't grade tough, per say, but honestly. She expects a certain quality from you. However, if everyone bombs a certain quiz or test, she will curve the grades. She is also very personable and cares about all her students. If you actually listen in lecture, she can be very funny and heartwarming.
If you do the reviews before every exam, you can fail this class
I loved and hated having Jeannette. Her class was very straight forward, 5 homeworks (10 to choose from) and 3 exams. Exams were few questions but very detailed, however she gave excellent online review sessions a few days before. Her lectures were kept interesting with frequent off topic stories... just be ready to hear her political views often.
She took 2-3 week to grade your assignments and expect you to do your assignment on time or else you receive zero credit. Also, how can you improve on your next assignment if you didn't get a feedback on the previous one on-time? She called them quizzes but people, these essays averaged 1200 words. She's equal to worst raised to the infinity power.
Her lectures aren't that bad. She's absolutely terrible at responding to any questions you have about assignments. Her answers were lazy and rude. Did relatively well in the class, but I've never seen such an unprofessional unwillingness to help students. Also she gives no partial credit.
She is great for online classes. The few times I had Zoom calls with her, I would have to warn you that if you take her in person you better be good at banter. She can half-jokingly take offense at almost anything, so make sure you're ready to give witty responses that keep her in a good mood. She gives plenty of extra credit.
I had Professor Mitchell for an upper-level ECON online class (Int Trade and Finc). She is not a conventional professor and I can see how her personality could clash with some people. She is, however, and excellent teacher. She is super casual and creates exams to test for in depth knowledge. For high level courses in ECON she is a must!
Great professor. Awesome sense of humor, explains things in a way that is easy to understand, tests aren't hard if you pay attention and take notes during the lectures.
She takes forever to grade anything so you have no idea where you stand in the class and if you are doing anything correctly. She doesn't grade fairly at all, if the answer isn't exactly what she wants it is a 0 which meant one small mistake on a midterm question dropped my grade 5 whole points. Also goes off on opinionated tangents.
This woman is completely incapable of using zoom (year three of the pandemic) and is constatnly disrupted by a satan spawn by the name of chester that has manifested as a Chihuahua with a horrendous attitude. She gives one attempt on pearson homework and expects no collaboration while also giving MASSIVE quizzes to be done weekly. Also, shes rude.
One word..incompetent. Easily the worst professor I've had. She's a very tough grader; she will give you zeros with little to no explanation..it feels as if she wants you to fail. She doesn't post your grades so you don't know where you stand unless you ask which gets you a snarky response. She's rude, condensing and creates a negative environment.
How she is still a professor is beyond me. Her lectures are boring, her annoying dogs are yapping every class and she goes on tirades about the most useless topics. I feel like I've gained absolutely nothing all semester. She makes you write papers every week and her instructions for these assignments look like they are written by a toddler.
Her class is not that good to be honest. Her lectures are boring and tells boring stories about economics all the time. Her exams are timed that are pretty difficult and you have to get a good grade on it or else you will fail. Lots of questions on exams. My final exam was 146 questions in 2 hours and 30 minutes. Other professors might be better.
She knows her stuff, and really cares about her students. ECON201 is an easy class, but I've heard her higher-level courses can be rigorous. Make sure you do homework and take notes during lectures, you will be fine. She offers extra credit and is flexible and easy to curve.
I took her class asynchronous over the summer. Coursework was organized, well-laid oud, and the lectures were not too bad. However, she doesn't grade our work and enter it into MyCourses in a timely fashion. In addition, she gave so much homework. Besides that, she's an awesome professor. Wish I had this class synchronous.
As long as you pay attention in class and take notes, you'll pass all the tests and quizzes pretty easily. I took her as a Gen-Ed course so I wouldn't know about other classes, but she was pretty easy going. Just show up for class and participate in her lectures... ask questions and tell some jokes. Feedback is good if she every gets around to it.
She started the year talking about how people hate her... she really isn't that bad she tried to keep her lectures understanding and gave many example problems throughout class. The tests were open note for online classes and you only had to do 5 out of the 10 quizzes she gave
My respect for her as declined to a bare minimum. She is extremely derogative to students who do not perform their work correctly, such as quizzes. She will give you a zero if you misunderstand even one thing. The notes are disorganized. Always wants to have debates and is super controversial. My grade would be better if I had clearer directions.
Jeannette is clearly very intelligent and knowledgable. However, it's easy to get lost in her lectures as she has no powerpoints and does live notes on Microsoft Paint. She's also not afraid to play devil's advocate and be controversial for the sake of discussion (she has definitely broken Title 9). Proceed with caution and participate in class.
Gives assignments that don't make since and expects her students to know things. IN class doesn't even talk about the topic or how to do things. Complains a lot about her problems. Also forced to buy a subscription to Pearson so she can auto assign hw and not have to deal with anything.
Very poor class. I though MECE classes were the worst, but this is actually paying money for nothing. Mycourses has nothing on it. The syllabus, some photocopied readings, and "quizes" which are just homeworks. No info on anything or a calander. Zoom only, takes notes on MS Paint?! Class is about 10% the topic, the rest is ramblings.
Not a good professor. Teaches on Paint. Doesn't give appropriate feedback. No guidelines and draws graphs manually. Lost interest in Economics due to the instructor.
Do not take this class. She goes on rants during lecture that has nothing to do with class. The homework is nothing like the topics discussed in class and the exams are 100+ questions each. Quizzes are worth 25% of the grade and if you mess up on anything she takes off a lot of points. Do not take this class if you care about your education.
Don't take this class if you value your grades and sanity. She goes on insanely long rants instead of teaching and then makes quizzes that have nothing to do with what she's teaching in general, then removes an insane amounts of points for the smallest mistakes. The tests have over 100 questions yet you will have just over an hour to complete them.
Her lectures are disorganized with no slides and she often went on useless rants that were off topic. Her quiz instructions were extremely vague and her grading criteria was not communicated at all. She took very long to grade and respond to emails and graded very harshly. Genuinely the worst teacher I have ever had. Ruined my interest in econ.
RUN. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF. Doesn't even teach from a book, she just takes stuff from her head and writes it sloppily down onto MS paint. She is so old I though I sometimes thought I was gonna watch someone die in front of me. She also like doesn't fill in grades. I just took the final and I don't even know what grade I got for the 3rd homework.
This professor does not even base her lectures on anything. She pulls up ms paint and just draws graphs and whatnot. She often rambles on and complains about her personal life as well. She is an extremely rigorous grader and there is not much to support you when it comes to studying for tests.
Online class but she doesn't know how to use the internet. There are 5-10 full essays for this class. The people who say this instructor is "not that bad" don't mind putting in 14 hours a week for this class. Seriously avoid this instructor. She's also very mean, which may offend some people though I found it hilarious.
One of the worst professors I ever took.
She doesn't really teach the concepts, she mostly just draws bad graphs on ms paint. She also shares too many unrelated personal stories which distracts from the topic of the class. She mocks people when they ask clarifying questions and she's overall a very rude person. No clear grading criteria either which makes assignments harder.
She just opens MS paint and just starts drawing graphs everywhere, really unorganized drawings also so no one knows what is even going on. She grades like a maniac do not take this prof
SHE IS EVIL. The homework she assigns takes forever, for example I just completed a 37 question quiz with most of the questions have 2-6 parts on material that isn't taught in class. she doesn't know how to teach, uses ms paint and draws horrible graphs. She shouldn't be allowed to teach. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
Lectures on ms paint so if you're absent for one day, there's nothing to learn off of. Homeworks take forever. Just finished her online finals: 119 questions in 2.5 hours and some of these questions even have multiple parts. Hard 101 course for no reason but she has funny stories that I enjoy listening to.
Please avoid her. Very unclear grading that takes forever. The professor is not approachable and it's hard to discuss with her.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS She knows her economics, no doubt, but do not ignore the reviews like she does. It is a matter of fact that this professor should not be teaching at RIT. Her syllabus reads like satire (no late work, no grade rounding, suggests deleting all games to study more, etc.). To Mitchell: You are dissuading many students from the subject
If you find yourself looking for an Econ prof, take ANYONE but Mitchell. Taught Econ based on theory and not the actual material we were tested on. Insane amount of hw with many graphing questions. Teaches using MS Paint and often deleted slides before you could read them. Her final was 40% of your grade with over 120 questions in 2.5 hr
Rude and abrasive to students in class, does not provide feedback in a timely manner and rambles about incoherent nonsense for much of her lectures. No lecture material is posted online and her lecture visuals are done in MS Paint by hand.
Prof draws messy graphs on MS Paint rather than teaching concepts. Assignments take forever, with unclear grading criteria. But her funny stories make class somewhat enjoyable. unstuck study's practice questions and learning tools helped a lot for exam prep.
Absolutely worst class I have ever taken, I would caution anybody from taking her. Takes notes on paint and never posts them, her lectures are not recorded. Loves giving quizzes but she does't want the answers from the book but from what she said in class only! Her lectures are 90 percent gibberish and 10 percent of barely covering the topics.
Prof. Mitchell cares about her students truly, however her class is one of the most boring I've ever taken. She rambles on about the days topic while scribbling in MS Paint, and you dont know what the quiz prompt is, its an airball if you study the right topic or not. Class is graded off a few quizzes and a massive group paper and presentation.
Do you want a professor who doesn't respond to emails, doesn't list exam dates on the syllabus or MyCourses, and announces a 20% exam less than two weeks in advance? She uses MS Paint to hand-draw graphs, never posts a full study plan, and ignores requests to review exams or schedule office hours.
Professor did a horrible job at explaining concepts, as everything was drawn through a terrible ms paint canvas. I mean, she literally told us she was not supposed to teach us material, we were supposed to learn on our own. Do not take this professor if you value your GPA.
She doesn't upload her notes so it's really hard to study for this class. The tests are all based on the textbook knowledge while in lecture she says to ignore the textbook info and only listen to her. She weights her final exam heavily so like 8-10 hws and 2 exams 20% weight while the final exam is 40%.
