Ima in intro to calc. she's a boring teacher. her last test was rediculously hard (everyone failed no joke.) she gives out entrance/ exit questions which accuracy on the problem means you attended class.

I dont know what everyone is talking about. I SUCK!! repeated SUCK!! at math and I am doing well in her class. She writes down notes that project onto the screen during class, which is very helpful. She also is very willing to help. She doesnt give out exit quizes that often, and when she does, she lets you use your notes and your book. Recommend!
she is a nice lady but she is a horrible teacher. she assumes you already know everything that she is teaching you. office hours are a little helpful but not that much. she does entrance/exit qquestion that are 50 points of your 500 total. drops lowest test grade.
Class is very difficult. The tests cover information that wasn?t covered in class or that is more difficult than the homework problems themselves. She is great one on one during office hours and always asks for questions; nonetheless the class average is a C or lower for most tests and requires a lot of studying.
Quite possibly the hardest class i've ever taken. She draws lines on the overhead and calls them notes. There is no info given about what will be on the upcoming test. She does collect homework, which boosts grades slightly but the tests are impossible unless you truly have a calc background. She's incredibly nice, just an incompetent teacher.
I hated this class. Her first test,and maybe 3rd, were on the easier side, yet still hard. The other 2 were ridiculous. She moves very quickly through the material and does not teach it well. I had to teach myself out of the textbook. The examples of the problems she gave did not match examples given in lecture. I do not recommend her.
She is a nice lady, but the bottom line is she can't teach. She is obviously smart, but she doesn't know how to explain things to where students will understand them. I would think I understood things in class, but know how to do NOTHING on the test. If you don't have previous calculus background I would recommend staying far away from her class.
very unclear. if you know you need help with calculus or you struggle in math, this is not the professor you want. she clearly knows what she's talking about but she cannot explain it well at all. nearly everyone struggles, tough class to keep up with
Took calculus in high school but didn't get credit for it. Thought this class would be a breeze but when it comes to her tests they are all multiple choice which is ridiculous for calculus. I thought I would pass off with an A and i'm at a b- right now. Take a different teacher. She is not very helpful. Skips steps. If you haven't taken calc, run.
This class was really easy if you've taken calculus before. The tests were easy. She seemed to be helpful if you still needed help.
If you've taken Calculus before, this class is a breeze. It's kind of boring, but the only reason you need to go to class is to do the random exit questionsa once you've accumulated enough pints you can skip. You don't have to do the homework, and the tests are EASY. She also grades so that you can have a surplus of points. My final grade: 102.1%
Not a very good professor. She knows how to do math forwards and backwards, but doesn't really understand the problems that those who aren't so good at math have. I spent more time in Roop hall than in class while taking her. Her exams are pretty easy if you've taken calc before, but if you haven't taken calc try to avoid her.

If you've taken calculus in high school (Not even AP) This class is a breeze. My final Grade was a 102%. She's nice and willing to help whenever you ask. Easy A!
this class should not be this hard! she lectures to her doc cam instead of the class, skips steps when working out problems. she gives "exit questions" to factor attendance into your grade, but she gave nearly half the points in the last 2 weeks of class, which defeats the purpose. If I hadn't taken the same class in high school i would have failed
Flick is one of the most difficult Math teachers. She does not show how to do problems. You will have to teach yourself via Roop and doing the practice problems. She has 4 Test and Drops one. There are also Exit Questions that correlate to attendance. If you haven't taken Calculus in High School, it's tough, but manageable with hard work.
She isnt a very good teacher in that she only goes over the problems and does not explain the concepts or why. She lets you go early a lot but you must be there at the end to turn in attendance points.
Take her if, and only if, you've taken calc before. If you haven't taken calc, you will understand nothing..

If you have taken Calculus before, you will do great. I have always been terrible in Math and had never taken it before. She does not use the textbook at all. There are 4 tests, she drops the lowest one, and a final. She takes attendance occasionally by exit questions. There is no homework. Class is incredibly boring.
Professor Flick is a nice lady who knows her math. I took precalc in high school and found this class to be pretty straight forward. If you have difficulties with a problem she'll go over it fully. Drops the lowest test and it's possible to get extra credit with enough exit questions. I'd recommend her.
Would not recommend. You must teach yourself the actual math, she assumes we know what we are talking about when we look at one example that she skips around on. Overall, smart person, poor professor.
Class is pretty boring. I wouldn't recommend if you haven't taken intro in a while, like I did. HOWEVER, she does really try to help grade-wise on every test with take home sections, omitted questions, and copious bonus points.
Honestly it is a very boring class, but if you have had any previous calculus, it is super easy. Attendance is sort of necessary as she does exit questions which are part of your grade. She tries very hard to supplement your grades and has copious amounts of bonus points for the four tests in the semester. She also drops the lowest test score.
She's not a BAD teacher. She has exit questions which are helpful and help your grade. She gives extra credit, and her own margin of error. Homework isn't mandatory, but very helpful. She can be boring at times. Her biggest flaw is that she expects her students to know Calculus beforehand. Just study and stay on top of her class.
Very nice lady. She handwrites all of her notes during class and does a lot of example questions. Prior calculus knowledge is helpful with her. Gives a lot of extra credit on tests. Has exit questions to raise your grade (if you attend all of the classes, which you should because you're in college). Tests are pretty simple if you try a little.

I suggest going to all classes because of her exit questions which will help your grade. She also gives easy bonus questions on all tests and drops your lowest test grade(4 tests)

Flick is a nice lady but she is not a great teacher. Her lectures are more confusing than helpful and she's really bad at explaining things. She does problems during lecture but skips important detailssteps that would explain to us why or how she got to the correct answer. Be ready to teach yourself! Seriously read the book & do the practice probs
Flick is a nice lady. She gives a lot of extra credit and bonus points. However, her class is very tough. She moves very fast and doesn't teach you, she just tells you to read the lesson in the book which I find very confusing. Also, do not expect partial credit on any problems, usually its either right or wrong. You need previous Calc experience.
She's a really nice person. She gives you the benefit of the doubt and helps you if you need it. Her lectures are kind of confusing, I got most of my help at the math learning center. However, I was never really that great at math. She gives you things called exit quizzes that really help your grade. She drops your lowest test grade too.
I've taken calc before and she made it so confusing. If you don't have much luck with math do NOT take her. Test include problems in the book she never goes over in class. Worst professor I have had in college so far.
ABSOLUTE WORST MATH 205 professor at JMU. She teaches as if everyone has taken a calculus class before. She will not help you and will take off points on tests if you don't do a problem the way she likes it. Do not take her for math 205 or any other class for that matter.
You almost had to have taken calculus previously to do well, but if you have, it shouldn't be hard. She goes really fast and isn't the best at explaining what she's trying to say. Homework is optional but she gives mini quizzes almost every day so I would recommend not skipping. However, she is really nice and will try to help.

I liked Mrs. Flick because she was always willing to stay after class with me to give me one on one help. The homework is ungraded "suggested assignments", and if you do all of those practice problems you will do fine in the class. Between that, the math tutoring center, and after class help, I was able to get a B. Calc takes time and practice.
She teaches like you already know calculus. I LOVE math and im really good at it, and she made me hate it. I wouldnt get credit on tests because I wouldnt do it her way. Failed almost every exam. She gives mini quizzes at the end of each class, so you cant miss. She doesnt teach, she just does problems and expects u to follow. Dont take her

Contrary to what many say I believe Mrs. Flick was a great teacher. If you have not taken calc before this class may be hard, but if you pay attention in class and ask for help you will succeed. Flick truly cares and will take time to further explain a topic if need be. Also, she will give free extra points at the end of the semester.
It does help to have prior knowledge when taking this course. But, by keeping up with her problems she recommends to do you can really help yourself out. Mrs. Flick is a nice and caring lady, her style of teaching is just hard for some to follow. She did do curves on 2 of the tests for our class. Show up to class to earn exit points. A is 90 or up
Wasn't really available outside of class. I had taken calculus in high school and I still got a B. If you're good at calc you'll be fine but she teaches like you already know the subject. Drops one test grade & there are lots of small homework assignments. She only grades A,B,C,D, no plus or minus. I could have gotten a B+ w regular grading scale
I started this class with no prior knowledge of calculus and she was very patient in explaining the material. She gives exit questions at the end of every class, boosting your grade along with the online homework assignments. Her tests are mainly multiple choice with some short answer and you can use your calculator, she is very approachable too!!
Amazing professor. She genuinely cares about her students and wants them to succeed. She offers a lot of extra credit and extra chances to get random points so even if you miss an assignment or don't do well on a test, you can still do well in the class. If you have taken Calculus before, this class will be easy! And if not, you'll still do well.
I came in thinking that if I got a C in Calc, I would be happy. I ended doing really well because of all the ways to learn and boost my grade. Going to class is essential because of the exit questions and learning the material. She went through the material very clearly and answered anything that was unclear. Assignments really helped me learn.
I entered the class with no knowledge of calculus and she really helped me in understanding it. She gives homework assignments, exit questions, multiple choice tests, extra credit, take home assignments, and lets you drop your lowest test grade at the end of the semester. Super sweet and caring, it is easy to get your grade up if put in effort. :)
While not a bad professor, she expects you to have an extensive knowledge on the subject beforehand. Tests make up the majority of your grade. Going to class is a must as there are exit questions that add up over the semester. Not a lot of room for improvement if you start falling behind. Take at your own risk.
Flick is a very nice lady. She spends most every class just doing example problems on the board without much explanation. The class covers a ton of material, so I wouldn't recommend her if you don't excel at math and can teach yourself the material. She does give a lot of homework that can pad your grade some.
If you've never taken calc before it may be a little difficult. Doesn't explain very throughly in class, but she's very nice. Hw is online and you get 2 attempts, good grade booster. Go to class to do the exit questions, end up getting around 10-15 bonus points if you do them all. Tests aren't too bad. You can do online hw on paper but 1 try only.
Thought Flick was a great choice for Calc. She explained the information well and would explain it again if someone was confused. She gives exit questions every class (which counted like an attendance grade). She also gives you an extra point to your grade at the end of the semester. Drops lowest test and offers extra credit on test.

Professor Flick is a really nice professor who knows a lot about the material. The class is lecture heavy and is mostly going over problems, but most math classes are like that. She gives a lot of homework which can pad your grade. Four tests with one test grade dropped. All in all, would take this class again if I had to.
She is a very nice lady. The most important piece of advice I can give you in order to succeed in her class, is you will have to motivate yourself in putting in time to practice the material in the book. She did at times throw some questions that she did not cover on the test. If you establish a relationship with her, it will pay off.
Professor Flick is a very nice approachable lady. She goes very fast and sometimes it was hard to stay on top of test material and new material. Her class wasn't difficult but the tests do take a lot of time and there is a lot of homework. Very easy to get a good grade, worst test grade dropped as well.
total of 4 tests plus final. weekly hw and exit questions. i wouldn't say the material is hard, but she makes it more difficult than it should be. she is pretty bad at solving long problems bc half the time she does it beforehand and just shows u a big blob and expects u to understand. she does go over test before and after.
Honestly, I don't think I learned one thing from this whole semester from this professor. She is a very nice lady but at the end of the day, that won't get you anywhere. She goes very fast throughout class and barely explains the problems you are going through in class. This class mostly was self-taught.
Not the best at actually explaining the material. She simply gives a few examples but half the time reads off of an answer key and doesn't walk you through it so its more difficult. Also keep up with the webassignments because she doesn't tell you when they are due so you have to keep checking yourself. Webassignments weigh heavily on your grade.
I was very happy with Professor Flick & this class. I think she was very helpful & even though it was a lecture heavy class, attendance wasn't mandatory & each lecture was posted on canvas if you missed or just wanted to rewatch it. Weekly homework assignments but they aren't that hard, reviews before each test with a study guide. I would recommend
I would highly recommend Professor Flick for MTH 205! She is kind and cares for her students. Attendance is important because there are in-class questions that count toward your grade. But the weekly online assignments are pretty easy and quick and she always offers extra credit questions on the tests.
She's not the east at teaching the material, BUT all of her tests are multiple choice including the final. I was able to guess on some and get full credit. Not many calculus teachers with multiple choice tests, TAKE ADVANATGE. Also, very lenient on late work. TAKE HER IF YOU EXCEL WITH MULTIPLE CHOICE TESTS.
Love her. She drops ur lowest test grade, gives extra credit and partial credit, easy bonus points on test, and she gives everyone a bump at the end of the year. She goes over test questions before so you know exactly what to expect, STUDY THE STUDY GUIDES! They are exactly like the exams. She records and posts every lecture if u need to rewatch
Professor Flick was always very helpful with material, sometimes she loses the point and goes off on tangents but always does what she can to help you with the material. She records all of the lectures, however sometimes the recorded lectures aren't the easiest to hear. She does do exit tickets at random, so be careful when skipping class.

Lectures are very boring but she gives helpful notes and the homework is an easy grade booster. Tests are mostly multiple choice so if your do practice problems and listen in class you will do well!
Could be an easy class but personally felt that she did not explain things thoroughly. Basically would do problems in class but would skip parts and wouldn't explain all the way through. Few homework's which means less practice. Gave some paper notes and test review, helped somewhat. Gives extra credit opportunities and drops the lowest test grade.
LOVED HER! She's very helpful/accessible, understanding, and answers any questions you have. The homework assignments are very easy and she gives a good amount of time to complete them. She tells you exactly what's gonna be on the test on review days. Lectures are recorded and posted on CANVAS. 100% recommend her for 205!
The way that she teaches math makes it so much more understandable. You do have to go to class or you won't understand anything. She prints out notes and goes through them giving you examples. She cares about everyone's welldoing. BEST MATH PROFESSOR BY FAR!
This is my 2nd time taking 205, Flick has made it so easy! Lectures are easy to follow, well explained, and she posts them on zoom if you miss a class. She gives a lot of extra credit points if you keep up with the work, and drops your lowest test score. A lot of homework, but they actually reenforce what was learned in class, so they're helpful.
she's a great professor. material isnt very challenging and the review sheets for the exams are very similiar to the exams so it makes exams that much easier. she always gives out extra points, whether it be easy exit questions or just showing up. loved her

Class setup: 4 tests(lowest dropped), exit questions(can email answers if not in class), webassign grades (paper or online), plus the final Professor Flick is very sweet! She will give partial credit/extra credit for tests and certain assignments. You will be given a study guide for all tests which are very similar to the actual test. I recommend!!

Math is math, Jean makes it relatively easy to learn, gives a lot of homework but the homework genuinely helps you to understand the topics and do well on tests. Office hours helped a lot, and always utilize the SSC with free tutoring.
Flick is a great prof for MATH 205. Her lectures are recorded, and she explains everything in a great manner. She allows a graphing calc on her tests and assignments. Make sure you go to class as she gives out exit questions for bonus points. Overall, great professor for intro to calc. (she also does not use any trigonometry)
Professor Flick lectures at a pace where students can form questions, her homework is minimal and the study guides reflect the test's problems, she's available outside of class for more intimate tutoring sessions, she always offers extra credit and she genuinely cares about students' success. If you apply enough effort, it is easy to perform well.
Lectures could get boring but the class was very easy! Homework was online with unlimited attempts so it was a guaranteed grade booster. Tests weren't hard at all and she explained things well.
Pretty easy class, not a whole lot of homework, and she gives a lot of extra credit on tests/ in general to boost your grade. Four exams and a cumulative final with homework grades (5 attempts each question).
One of the best prof at JMU all together, she is actively trying to give you extra credit points so go to class. Tests can be difficult but she prepares you as much as she can, overall a lot of points are very easy to get, your grade is completely dependent on you.
Literally such an amazing prof. I personally hate/struggle with calculus but Prof Flick is so kind and is great at working at the pace of her students. She is easy to reach by email and gives tons of extra credit! Homework is limited, so you have a chance to practice what you need. She drops the lowest test grade too! Def take her!!
She is my favorite math professor I have had here.Easy to get in contact with and gives lots of extra credit. Test reviews are very similar to actual tests, and she drops the lowest test grade of the 4. Only critique is that if you dont pay attention things can get confusing but she records all lectures and posts them on canvas
Prof. Flick is a very nice lady and it is very easy to get help outside of class, but her lectures are fast paced and she makes material a lot more complicated.
A great teacher overall and she explains the material extremely well. Homework is all online and you have unlimited attempts to get a one hundred. Theres four tests but one gets dropped.
Was scared for this class but Flick made this class a genuine breeze. Drops lowest test grade and they're all multiple choice. She offers a good amount of extra credit and homework is online- it's extremely helpful to your grade. She posts every lecture and if you pay attention in the slightest you'll do great. Coming from someone not good at math.
Flick is super nice and lenient. Homeworks and exits can give you a lot of credit in the class and they don't take long. 4 exams and she gives you lots of wiggle room for extra credit and drops your worst exam. Definitely easier if you took calculus in high school, but she wants you to do well!
