really nice! and teaches very well, even though her lectures may be long. but u learn a lot, just wish she gave little breaks
Umm she's a lil stuck-up :-(, but her class is sorta easy! She gives 3 pop quizzes and u can use notes, which are based on class lectures and the readings, she allows 3 extra credit assignments, 1 presentation, class participation which isnt even enforced that much lol! and of course, a final exam, w/o any notes ALLOWED!!!
she is sooo boring, she wasnt bad to look at though and thats half the reason why i stayed away but there wasnt a class i didnt fall asleep. if you miss a quiz your ****ed so make sure your smart on the days you miss class. she can write notes on the board for crap so you gotta listen
A boring class for sure. Not easy at all. 3 pop quizes a semester. NO makeups!! U miss u miss. One presentation and of course, a comprehensive final exam. I am sure u will fall asleep if u take her in the afternoon as I did. U might want to think anout it before u take...
the pop quizes are easy as long as you take good notes since the pop quizes are open notes. The final however was harder. I was fine with listening to her lecture but her writing is horrible on chalkboard. You have to pay good attention because she just squibbles on the board.
i loved her class just take good notes and you'll pass, really easy project just a group presentation, tests just as easy all open note she couldn't be letting you pass any better than this!
She's a good teacher but when she write notes on the board it is kind of hard to read. Just be sure that when you copy her notes to your paper you know where you're putting it in... She makes the classroom environment fun, and she's young so she nows the limits of sitting in a 4 hour long lecture class. She gives great break periods too...
Hard class because some material is very very easy, and some overly specific. Woo is reluctant to repeat important information or give clear answers to questions, so you don't know what is important to study. She has a smug, "I'm the teacher, I'm always right" attitude which was obnoxious. Not approachable for help.
beware of those quizzes. I would strongly advise choosing another teacher unless you like to challenge tough teachers. She gives extra credit which is nice. But because she does she makes it a point to be tough in all other areas. She does it for her job, not to really connect and teach through passion.
I had the worst time with this teacher. She doesn't give break, she gives break 5 mins in 90 minutes. she writes the worst note that no body understands. I don't understand why she had to talk about only chinese for the most of the time. Don't just Don't.
I had worst time ever. the notes she wrote on the board were totally disorganized. sometimes I couldn't understand what she was writing on the board. She was not prepared, she just wrote whatever she wanted to write. She talked mostly about chinese, 95% of the time. She is a type of teacher who doesn't want to pass you.
just don't...
Kinda disappointed in taking her class. Writes notes on the board sorta messy &disorganized. Her midterms are pop quizzes, yet open note. Does extra credit; but only accepts two of them. A group essay/research paper +presentation makes up most of your grade. Not recommended.
i signed up for a different teacher but i got her instead. :( don't take her!
Her notes are very messy and hard to follow, however just write down whatever she talks about, and you will get a good grade. she has 3 pop quizzes the whole semester and they are open book. if you understand your notes, you will pass! the final is pretty easy and she grades easy as well. go to class everyday and you will get an A. nice and helpful
overall, she's a nice lady. i had her early in the morning, so because of that, i didn't exactly want to wake up to go to her class... but if you miss her notes, you won't be able to do the pop quizzes which are open note. no midterm, just a final and two pop quizzes. a group essay which i highly advise to not plagiarize because she does catch you.
She is definitely hard but very helpful if you ask. Her notes are ALL over the place so you really just have to listen and write the main ideas. If you do that, you'll be fine on the pop quizzes and final. She's pretty strict but I really did learn a lot from her. If you don't want a challenge.. don't take her. Want to learn a lot.. take her.
she's nice but she tries to intemidate people that she's a hard grader but not...
challenging class. i have her for a 3 hour session and it is so long. she expects you to read out of some boring books. but no one does cause she explains it all in class in her notes. but she is very messy with her notes so you must be good at takin notes. and pop quizes will surprise you so take good notes. other than that shes a good teacher
Her class honestly isn't hard at all. If you didn't read, she'll go over the text next class with her notes. TAKE GOOD NOTES! She lectures at a quick pace, and like everyone said, her notes are messy. Expect only 2 pop quizzes, 15 pg essay/presentation and a final exam. She can also be good at clarifying info, you just have to ask!
Jeannie is freaking hilarious and nice. Although, her notes on the board may be a bit sloppy, she still goes over them clearly. Her class is alright, for the most part. It's not too difficult and not too easy. I would recommend her if you guys are tired of boring professors.Jeannie can definitely put a smile on your face with her funny jokes.
I like her alot. She's funny, enthusiastic, and helpful. Her lectures are very clear and interesting. It would not make u fall asleep! She always have interesting stories to relate to the topics in class. Two pop quizes....all lecture based.1 final that is exactly the same as the study guide.
Really a nice teacher and really wants you to pass. Just attend her class because all test (2 pop quizzes) are based on lectures. The books weren't used, so waste of money, but final is EXACTLY like the study guide, and she's really nice! Not a super easy teacher but not hard either, shes enthusiastic and not boring at all.
Her class can be repetitive. She basically just lecture and you take notes everyday. Helpful tip: Don't just copy what she writes on the board but LISTEN to what she say and write it down too. You have to be able to look back on your notes and understand what you wrote in order to ace the pop quizzes and final.
Like everyone has probably said before me, make sure to take good notes! Also feel free to ask for clarification when needed! Though attendance is not mandatory, I suggest going anyway since, aside from the two pop quizzes, the notes are essential. Also, she's funny and really knows her subject well. There is a group project but its too bad.
lecture and lecture and lecture, two pop quiz that's unexpected but can use notes :D one group presentation and a final. she's a easy teacher but you have to take good notes to pass her quiz, i think i am failing because i don't take good notes... but recommend her, not the worse, you'll learn something
I took her for AAS 310. She?s an easy going professor, a very cute one. Her notes can be dis-organize but as long as you?re a good listener you?ll be alright. Do the reading before class and she won?t get on your case. She became my new best friend?seriously she is my best friend.
She's a good professor, very helpful. A lot of books and readings. Notes are all over the place, so try to organize and understand for your own good. Pop quizzes. Midterm and a final with short essay. Group project. Easy class if you pay attention and do all readings and your work. I got a B-, but could've done better if I read and paid attention.
One group project, mid-term and final are take home. two pop quiz can do extra credit to make it up.
A waste of a class, and although Professor Woo is a very easy teacher she never really seems interested in lecturing or engaging with her students. The group project was a complete waste of time, and I didn't learn anything from it. A complete bore, but still passed with an A-.
Because it was a morning class, I disliked the class and was TIRED. She's a good teacher, she doesn't assign hw!!! you can do extra credit to boost your grade, 2 pop quizzes, 1 final, and 1 group project. Her class was pretty easy and she's pretty understanding. She's not strict and follows the reading. I personally never read and still passed.
she is very chill, nice and not too strict.group project is no good with bad group members. 2 pop quizzes and lots of extra credit.the reading is not really needed.class is pretty boring since it was a 3hr night class, but not mandatory.
Taking this class in the morning is tough when it's all lecture. Make sure to attend class because there are 2 pop quizzes based on lecture notes. the extra credit helps a lot so do as much as you can. The project boosts your grade but make sure your group is committed before its too late...
I think Jeannie should have a :) face Write everything she writes on the board/says into a notebook Highlight titles& sections b/c open note for 2 pop quizzes group project is on YOU do NOT depend on your group we're all slackers and YOU KNOW IT take home final for reviewing but write it in class and turn in (you can write "notes" inside and erase)
She's so boring it discouraged me to go to class. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you should go to class. Her in-class lectures are pretty crucial when writing the journals. If you go to class, its an easy A.
Waking up early and listen to her lecture was sometimes hard, but she's really nice and not strict at all. Two pop quizzes (she hinted one of them last semester from what I remember) and there's no midterm. She gives you the final before the final day, so it's easy. Overall, pretty easy class & nice teacher. :)
UNORGANIZED, SLOPPY, UNHELPFUL. lectures and homework are boring and uninteresting. I learned nothing! waste my time taking this class, but have to due to the needs of units. she lost my hw. I F my quizes, b/c she probably didnt like my answers. u have a 10 pg group report; if ur group dont do anything u have to do it or u fail.
Honestly, probably the EASIEST class I've taken in college. The only "hard" part about her class was the 10 page GROUP(4-5ppl) report. Do extra credit. Write everything down. 2 pop quizzes, but can "get back" your pts with extra credit. There, that's all the hard parts about class. You are the one who makes the class "hard." Jeannie's super nice!
First, I recommend you disregard all comments saying that she is boring. She's not. You can tell she's genuinely interested in the subject, and knows her stuff. As long as you attend class regularly and take good notes, the testing should be no problem. Plenty of extra credit opportunities. Overall, a decent class.
She is a jolly and smiley teacher! She's pretty easy, you will make or break your grade when it comes to the group 10 page paper and presentation which isn't so bad since you work in like a group of 5 people. Do all possible extra credit and take notes for the OPEN note quiz! Stay awake!!!
Professor Woo is a horrible teacher. Her assignments are unclear and she is not helpful. Her class is boring because she disrupts the lecture with open ended questions that she makes someone answer before moving on. Her grading is unfair and does not make sense. Do not take this class, it is a waste of time.
Soooo boring, she gives way too much work for a Segment III class. Huge project which should count as final but theres an actual final on top of that.
It's a history class people, it was bound to be boring. However, Prof. Woo is amazing! She lectures about the readings from the night before hence you don't even have to read the books that was required. 2 pop quizzes open notes from what she JUST discussed. A group project of 4-5 people w/ a 10 pg paper. She even made our final take home!
Her lectures are pretty easy to follow since she speaks so clearly. The reading may look intimidating, but you don't have to read all of it since she doesn't cover all the reading. The journals can be somewhat of a pain if you don't attend class. Other than that, the only major assignment outside the final is the group project which isn't too bad.
2 quizes. Group Research Project (you have all the semester to do). Take home final. Very easy class and Woo is a fun and interesting teacher. She is very clear and always able to help during her office hours. This is a very easy class and one of the easiest GE requirements
not a hard grader but her lectures ramble and she has no powerpoints or notes. Her English is pretty bad (even though she was raised in America...) so it's hard to understand assignments sometimes. Easy to get along with.
J Woo is just cool. Despite the bad comments about her, well, every teacher has shortcomings, but her teaching will brighten up a new view about AA. She gives pop quiz (open notes) and a proj. She's funny and helpful, and very easy to approach. TAKE HER!
I took her course Fall 2010. She was a helpful professor and quite a fine lady. Not a hard course. She does require to do the reading before class or else there will be a quiz. Do well on the group project and get an A.
GO TO CLASS, WRITE DOWN EVERY WORD SHE SAYS ON NOTES. Her two quizzes are her exactly from her notes/lecture. Her journals, just really say how you feel and elaborate a lot, when she says the journals must be 4 pages not spaced. THEN THEN WRITE THAT MUCH. if you do all her work then you will get an A! SHE KNOWS HER ASIAN AMERICAN HISTORY!
Jeannie is a waste of your time. I am currently taking the course and she hasn't bothered to show up for 3 and a half weeks of the course because she is sick or has a "family emergency". Her grading makes no sense, her assignments aren't clear and the class is boring as hell. Her reading is difficult and lengthy. Don't take this class
I wish she would have provided more feedback on our writing, but I really liked her class. I recommend her!
Jeannie is GREAT! I am actually taking her again this upcoming semester. I saw she was teaching a class and signed up for it. Shes very nice. I think people only leave negative comments because theyre the ones NOT DOING THEIR WORK! I HIGHLY suggest taking her. Very cool!
Jeannie is engaging and she knows her stuff. I found the class very informative. What I have issue with is, she canceled over 6 class sessions many of which could have helped us to understand the group essay. Because of the missed sessions the direction of the project became very unclear.
She's nice and all but extremely unclear of what she wants. She'll give you a broad topic and tell you to write it according to how you interpret it and then criticize saying that’s not what she wants and THEN tell you how it should be written. Although even then it will not be up to her expectations…
This was a really fun class and it is very student-interactive. There's almost no homework and the 2-3 quizzes are pretty easy. The final was cumulative and had an essay. There is, a group project assigned first day of class an due at the end of the semester. It's worth more than the final. If you don't work well with groups don't take this class!!
Gives vague assignment instructions & responds too late or not at all when students contact her for clarity. Group project was a thinly veiled attempt at making us do research she was too lazy to do. I didn't learn anything that I didn't already know from a junior college course. Gave me an F for participation but I spoke up & never missed a class.
shes grades you on your total score out of 100, basically you must get all B or higher on quizzes because it is worth the most points or do the extra credit assignment to pass the class. Also failing the final = failing class because it is worth 30 points out of 100 total
VERY unorganized w/ notes on the board. You really need to listen, otherwise copying it down will do nothing. Her TA did most of the grading. Bi-weekly quizzes that are 2-3pg essays (turn in on iLearn). Extra credit essays. 1 family history report. 1 group research project on a CBO(30-40pg total paper + presentation). Don't procrastinate on it!
Overall, I found the class to be confusing and a little on the difficult side. We didn't even use the book assigned. The class consisted of 5-6 online quizzes, 2 short 3-4 page papers, 1 10-30 page semester long group project, and a final. Her notes can be completely unorganized, so you REALLY need to pay attention. Extra credit is available!
Do not take this class! She grades very hard. Not flexible at all! Her lecture is totally unorganized and cannot even read her hand writing on the board. All she does is repeating herself. Again, do not take her class. You will regret it.
This professor has no business teaching college students. This class felt like I was in middle school all over again. There was a useless group project which did nothing but make me resent the course even more.
I was very interested in taking this until the 1st day of class. Jeannie really knows her info, but not good at teaching and engaging the class. The whole semester I thought I was failing then ended up with an A. No communication, immature with the TA's, treats the class like 1st graders. Easy final, terms and essay. I would take a diff teacher.
Hard grader. Unorganized and unclear on lecture and instructions. Three TAs in the class and they are not helpful at all. Do not take this class.
Not a good professor at all. Her grading style is hard for no reason. Her lectures are terrible and you learn nothing from them. She has annoying TA's that do the work for her. The group project is pointless as well. Overall pointless class and terrible professor, you could teach yourself the material better than she can. Avoid her and this class!
If you go to class and actively take notes, you'll pass the class. I never read the book; only listened during lecture. The big group project was the biggest pain out of everything in this class. Also, she's absent a lot.
Hands down the poorest excuse for a professor I've come to know. Extremely unreasonable and unprofessional. Not considerate at all with her students. Refused to give reason as to why she gave me the grade she did. SFSU, do yourself a favor and get rid of Jeannie Woo.
I didn't learn anything this whole semester. She is definitely knowledgeable on Asian Americans, but the way she delivers her knowledge to the class is a mess. There's no point in taking notes because even if I study them it's nonsense. She is a hard grader, doesn't use iLearn, and has A LOT of attitude. She obviously doesn't care for her students.
Bi-weekly quizzes, lectures, a handful of papers, a semester-long group project, and a comprehensive exam. Her lectures are pretty detailed and she knows her stuff; my only complaint is that the stuff she writes on the board is really disorganized and her instructions for the project were confusing. The work isn't too bad if you're good at writing.
About 5/6 quizzes, lectures, final, and a group project. Her notes are sloppy, but you can understand them. Final and group project are worth the most. As long as you study and work well with your group, you should be able to pass this class.
She gives out 10 points of extra credit. you just need to watch a film on youtube, then write a 2-3 pages paper to get 4% of total grade. 2 midterms are online. you have a week to do them. It's very easy to get an A if you do the extra credit. she misses 3-4 classes and has bad hand writing.
I've never rated before... so she must be TERRIBLE. Very unclear on what she wants, yet will dock you down for some ridiculous reason you wouldn't have known because SHE NEVER SPECIFIED. The lecture is informative, but the assignments are useless. She tries to be funny but comes off insulting. Do your grades a favor, don't take her.
TERRIBLE. Aside from her lecture, nothing was good about this class. Always had unclear directions for quizzes and assignments, but don't be surprised when she docks you down for something she wanted but never stated. Do yourself all a favor, don't take Woo. If you care about your grades, don't take Woo. If you value your dignity, don't take Woo.
Woo is hard for no reason! I don't feel like I learned anything from this class. If you like getting A's, don't take this class. she will take away points for anything & everything. The group final in redundant. If you need this class for a GE requirement, don't take it.
Woo grade the paper very tough every little thing will be dock down. She is not clear on explaining things and she talks about 2 projects at once. The work load is heavy because she gives you multiple assignment at once. and there is a lot of reading. Don''t take her class
Worst Asian American Study professor i have taken. She is such a tough grader. All the small mistakes you make on Quiz and essays turn into lots of points on your overall grade. Her Final PROJECTS are very confusing because she tried to explain 2 projects at the same time. Save your time, LOOK FOR Another professor.
TERRIBLE CLASS!! save your breath, it is not worth it to take her class. Assignments are always unclear and she grades really tough.
Fantastic teacher! Easy class.
Professor Woo is an awesome teacher! Very encouraging, and definitely makes you want to learn more. She's very passionate about teaching and getting to know her students. There's no required book, and most of the material is posted on iLearn. The course isn't easy, but if you try your best and turn in your work on time, you'll do fine.
I love Professor Woo because she's very passionate on the subject of Asian American History, a section that is often overlooked in your standard public school level Social Studies class. Her "pop" quizzes are easy essays, but you have to make sure to get your citations correct.
easy grader
I hated this class so much. I wish I didn't take it. Jeannie was really passionate about her lectures and it was interesting listening to them but they were way too long and she assigns a group project on an asian american business and the paper has to be 30-40 pages long. if you like asian history, take this.. if not.. DON'T.
I hate this class. She is never specific on her assignments and has a little sarcasm in her voice when you go to meet with her to talk about your assignment and discuss your grade. I approached her in class one day to set a time to discuss a quiz because I had gotten a bad grade and she rolled her eyes and said yeah I guess...
The work isn't extremely difficult but regardless of how hard you work, you will get a poor grade on assignments. This professor sets us up to fail. I was excited for this class at first but now I cannot wait for the semester to be over just because of this teacher. She is very unclear with expectations. I should have listened to the other reviews.
Her work turns from easy to harsh real quick. As soon as you hear about the end of the year paper, you'll want to drop the class (almost wanted to take addy while working on it. I have 5 pages left..). In class, however, the lectures are pretty well explained, so thats not that bad I guess. Overall, grading and homework sucks for this class.
Professor Woo enjoys when students participate in discussions. She has a check list for everything you need to include for each assignment, which really helps. Extra credit really boosted my grade! I took this class to fulfill a requirement with no interest in AAS. By the end I'm glad I took it; a nice break from my core classes. Minimal homework!
Professor Woo is a great lecturer. However, this class had many writing assignments. The midterm was a 4 page paper, quizzes are 1-2 page essays, and the group project was a 30-40 page paper. If you choose Professor Woo, you will become a better writer and gain a lot of knowledge about Asian American history.
Follow her instructions down to the "T" or she'll mark you down for the simplest things. She's a fairly easy grader as long as you write well and are able to be articulate, otherwise I can see how she can be a little tough on grading for those who don't. Her midterm and final projects were fairly easy -- nothing to sweat over.
Professor Woo is not "strict" she makes her grading clear and students who dislike this should not attend. Her writing assignments may seem intimidating at first but are flexible and not graded harshly as long as you make an effort to do good work. Very few papers throughout the semester, just make sure you focus on your midterm and final.
Fun class. Work wasn't as bad as stated in her syllabus which can seem intimidating at first. Once you do them, you'll realize it wasn't that hard at all. As long as you put effort into your work, she will reward you. Her instructions are pretty clear and she goes over them in class as well. Would recommend.
She amazingly passionate about teaching towards Asian American Children's literature. Jeanie challenges and makes you think critically by asking questions that allow you to develop your own answers. Not much homework. Just two papers and a Final (where you create/design your own picture book). Loved her! She's BRILLIANT!
She is very strict on formatting and if you miss one thing you get docked off a lot, so make sure to follow the formatting and every direction in her assignment and you should get an A. I was one of the few that got all A's on her assignments. Quizes are all easy 2 page essays. Overall she makes the class go smoothly so just follow her directions.
Jeannie knows the material very well, and she's well-intentioned, but her class is not easy. She breezes through lectures, and although she's been getting better at answering questions, she still jumps often. There're many papers and pop quizzes in the class, as well as a group project that counts for a lot of your grade. Miss something? Good luck.
Very tough grader, is not willing to help her students. Will not help with grading and won't show your overall grade until its to late. Even if you do everything in the class and no extra credit you will barely in not even pass. HIGHLY RECOMMEND A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR!!!
Honestly, I loved her classes so much but the way she grades essays ruined it for me. You can lose half your score just for making a formatting mistake. Despite that, she's pretty easy to talk to when you need help but unless you're a pro at writing essays, I wouldn't recommend taking her class...
Great and kind teacher who's very informative. She knows exactly what she's talking about and her lectures are very detailed and interesting!
One of the toughest professors I've had so far. Class is all lectures and notes, and she gives papers occasionally. Follow directions and you'll get an A, but you're going to have to work for it.
Some work but not too many, a lot of 1 page papers due every week. Lecture all the time and one project.
I took her class during the fall semester of 2017. Pretty heavy lecturer, this class is an easy A, if you can't get an A in this class. You shouldn't attend this university then. her papers aren't that hard as long as you follow directions and know what you're writing and not bsing but considered she liked me as a student.
I love Jeannie! She was straight to the point and told her class what she wanted. The class overall was somewhat a breeze, but only if you paid attention and put in the effort for the projects. I highly recommend this class as it's informative, shocking, and interesting! A great trio.
Shes a cool teacher but strict on deadlines. Not a lot of homework but make sure to keep up with the small assignments on ilearn. Its a straightforward class but you do have to put in a little effort for an A. Also try not to skip class because she takes attendance!
Her grading methods are horrible. Every little thing counts- 1 point is worth 1 percent. You could write a 4 page paper, and get 1 point off for messing up a citation... and the paper is only 3 points!!! Not to mention the group paper that is over 50 pgs long w/ a presentation- and that's not even our final. would not recommend ://
I really enjoyed taking her class, it was very fun, and you learn a lot from her. Her grading system can be tough, but if you proofread your work, you shouldn't have problems with any point deductions. Though I will say, I didn't like her finals very much. We had to write a group paper over 50 pages and a group presentation. Awesome prof overall!!
Super nice and engaging. She has 2 real assignments, a family oral history paper which is 2 pages and a group project that is 30-40 pages (between 5-6 people) I did a total of 6-8 pages, but the project spans the entire semester. Attendence is barely taken. Has pop quizzes mostly online so just check ilearn if not there. lecture heavy
Every class is just lectures. She doesnt post them online so if you dont go youll have no idea what went on. Midterm is a research/project type thing. Grades on the same scale for everyone. Some people will get super easy popular stuff for midterm and others will have to work extra hard to find info. Very particular/slow with returning work.
Jeannie is a sweet and wonderful person. She does offer extra credit, which helps a lot. I just don't like group projects. My group was actually great, but just in general. Jeannie does care about the content she teaches and engages with the class during them.
Very funny and welcoming teacher. For an ethnic studies course, she definitely connects current and past issues within the Asian American world. She has humor, making lectures fun, but lectures are heavy, yet interactive. Worked in groups a handful of times which is good, and sometimes extends deadlines. Great with communication!
Professor Woo has been a great semester during this online learning experience! She adjusts her course and workload when she feels that her students are dealing with a lot (pandemic, fires, etc). There aren't too many assignments, just primarily one main project and discussion forums. She's super sweet and you cannot go wrong taking her!
Not too good. heavy lecture and if you skip class then you wouldn't pass. pop quizzes any time
She is absolutely amazing! I am affected by fires every fall so she was more than accommodating during the pandemic about the power outages. She was absolutely amazing! When class starts up again I will definitely send her a hard copy of my final project as a thank you :) I would def take her, you have 2 main projects or papers (your choice).
Funny professor but I can get how some would translate it as rude or mean. Lectures are informative and papers have clear grading. Put effort into your papers because she takes them seriously, easy A otherwise.
I took Jeannie's class for AAS 320-01 asynchronous last semester. Was super easy to pass, as long as you did the homework assignments. I appreciate for all online texts she provided for free, and the reminder emails, for upcoming quizzes, projects, etc. I would mention if taking this class, to begin the final assignment immediately!
She's nice but I think her jokes might get misunderstood to other students. I wouldn't say the work is too hard(?), I think my only issue might have been that, to me, the workload was a little bit more than average in comparison to my other classes. The final project for my class felt sort of rushed/ not enough time. Very good lectures.
Jeannie is so sweet and kind. I tooked her two timr
Prof Woo is AMAZING! Creative assignments helped learn material, and interesting video lectures. Easy, no, but not HARD either. Great Class. A couple of things seemed out of my comfort zone at first like drawing characters, but once I realized it was not a drawing class, it was a reflection of what I see as visual cues in CHILD Lit, love it!
This was a fun class; it really opens your eyes to Asian representation in children's literature. I loved the final project, you create your own book. It was a bit stressful with the quizzes (papers) she assigned, make sure to not wait last minute! You do have to buy children books in order to complete the paper, you can get it on Amazon.
very easy class. discussion posts almost every week and quizzes every other couple weeks. midterm and class project were very easy as well. if you read and do all your work on time it will be an easy a. professor Jeannie is very funny and likes to talk a lot ! would take again !
Honestly, just enroll in another AA S course. Dropped the class after she posted the instructions for the final project... It was some ethnography project that just seemed so undoable if you're taking multiple classes. She seems to expect that her students only prioritize her class rather than their other classes.
This class is stress bro. The modules were unorganized, too many assignments and they'd open one after the other so fast. I get it, its a summer class, but the assignments are so difficult in a tedious way. Lots of reading and lectures, multiple drawing assignments, lots of written quizzes. It was just an overwhelming amount of content/ work.
I really enjoyed her lectures, and the first day of class. My class was a hybrid class, and we were supposed to have 4 to 5 in person meetings. All in-person classes were cancelled except for the first day of class. I wasn't able to build community and make friends through online classes. I'd gladly take her again, but I'd prefer in-person.
This class is soooo tedious. I thought it would be manageable but the course load is insane and she kind of expects us to devote all our time to this class as if we don't have other classes.
she's so strict on grading her quizzes and the workload for an asych class is crazy. our final was to write an 8-12 page paper due not even during finals week and the cherry on top was her assigning a QUIZ of us asking us to submit a joke and research about it(full credit if it makes her life). this class was literally a personal hell
Jeannie is an excellent professor. The assignments are not easy, as the midterm and final are time-consuming projects. Despite the rigor, they are fun. For our midterm, we created a class assignment for SFUSD elementary students. For our final, we chose between making our own picture storybook or selecting a topic for a 5-7 page essay.
Pros: funny; good n interactive lectures. Cons: strict grading; strict deadlines, once missed, NEVER getting that credit (1p=1% overall grade); invisible grade; projects are mid difficult n time consuming, need to submit lots of documents for 1 project; unorganized modules; no excuses accepted; heavy workload. Not recommended for those with no time
Took this over summer, probably better in person and not over a condensed five week span. Professor gives a lot material to review from, but did not feel like the learning connection was really there. Grading requirements are specific to assignments, but if you miss a topic, don't expect an explanation or analysis. Would be much better in person.
Not worth the effort for a GE if that's what you're taking it for. Also political views strongly influence the class material to an uncomfortable degree.
Interesting material. You need to absolutely time manage this class especially if you're taking multiple hard classes. Start everything when it's uploaded! Not the easiest professor if that's what you're looking for.
