Very rarely do you find a professor who is able to present the information in a way that keeps you interested. This guy must have been a stage actor in a past life, he's constantly cracking up his students. Overall a caring and generous professor. Exams are fair and require deductive reasoning about the big picture ideas. Hard work is still a must.
Dr. Jaeger was a great professor! The class was definitely challenging for an intro class, but he wants you to pass and will help you pass so long as you put the effort in. Gives occasional extra credit, entertaining lectures, and while attending lecture isn't mandatory, it's definitely recommended. Attended every single one and still got a B-.
This guy is very hard. Be prepared to go to class, study hard and take good notes.
Jef is an awesome professor I wish I could've passed his exams though, they are extremely difficult. However, his lectures are entertaining and he's very witty! If you study extremely hard you're likely to pass...take good notes and do good on the quizzes and show up to class, he'll offer extra credit at random!
I loved how conversational Dr. J was. He is very entertaining and makes you interact during lectures. He might poke fun at you if you answer a question wrong but he does it in jest. I enjoyed him a lot and the exams were straight forward-- definitely take him.
Good professor, very animated which keeps the class interesting. The textbook is very useful when reviewing for the tests especially going back to the figures he shows in class. All anyone needs is to put in a little effort, the class is not rocket science just write good notes and study well. He gives extra credit. I would recommend him
A LOT of work for this to be a 100-level class. Exams are very difficult. Jef is an ok lecturer, a little too animated at times. I recommend taking someone else if possible. Read the book and get 100s on homework and labs
Jef is a great instructor. His class is interesting and simple to understand. He offers a lot of easy extra credit opportunities to boost your grade toward the end of the semester. The book is useful, but most of the material comes from class notes. I'd highly recommend him for biol 341.
Biology is difficult for a lot of people, but Jef makes it more fun and easy to understand. He makes a lot of jokes and keeps your attention. The tests are challenging but as long as you are there every day you will do well. He gives a lot of extra credit which is great! He is one of the best instructors!
I really enjoyed this class. Dr. Jaeger is funny and conversational albeit controversial... just the way her prefers it, I assume. I'd take it but it's not an easy A (even for bio upperclassmen like myself). Lol
His class is very fun at first. He's an entertaining instructor. However, his test are hard, especially for a 100 course. You'll find that his jokes aren't funny after test scores come in. He really should curve his test grades considering how poorly the class, as a whole, does. This class will bring stress into your life, believe me...
This class is WAY too hard for a 100 level class. I studied too hard to get Cs on all my exams.
Really funny and knows his stuff. Show up to lecture and take his quizzes and you'll do good in the class.
I really enjoyed this class, and I hate science. For the first time ever I actually understood the concepts being taught. He's hilarious, and I enjoyed coming to class everyday. Also, I went and got tested, everything came back negative, yay! But overall, I'd recommend him, was scared for this class, just wish I would have studied more. Thanks Jef!
The exam are way too hard to be 100 level course. Does not provide a study guide which makes studying impossible. Worst class taken so far.
This class is great! Dr. Jaeger is funny and helpful. He doesn't give a study guide but he offers study sessions and writes most of the notes for us. I actually got information from this class I'll remember, which doesn't happen if the class is too easy. I'd say this class was perfect for 100 level course. Show up to class and you'll do great.
Dr. Jaeger is an excellent, engaging professor. I'm somewhat confused about the comments about the class. Biology is a fact based science. Dedicate an hour or two each day to studying the material, and it will be very easy to receive an A.
Jeff is one of the most comical interesting professors I've ever had in UNLV. He breaks down science to its most basic level where a toddler would understand it. attendance its not mandatory but i totally encourage you to go to class if you want to do well in the exams. They are not hard, but tricky.
If you show up to class and study you will do fine. I attended his summer school class. It was actually fun too. Hes a great teacher but you do have to study a lot on your own time. I finished the class with an 88% and he ended up giving me an A-.
Jeff is a good teacher but the material is a bit difficult at times.you need the text book for the weekly online quizzes and you need to study for his 4 exams.the lectures are helpful but you will need to read the the text if you want an A.his class is pretty interesting and is a very friendly guy and he's helpful. I recommend this class.
He scares me. This course is a high school course and it's challenging because you actually have to put in the effort and study your notes and read your textbook to pass his tests. One test is 150 points and he has 4 tests. The rest are easy freebie points. He doesn't take attendance but if you want to pass, come to class.
Jef really cares about his students and stresses the fact that he wants everyone to go to class to pass the class. With that being said, he won't just give you the grade you want. Test are hard and you have to study, read, and go to every lecture. He is passionate about what he teaches and gives a long but interesting lecture.
Hes probably the best teacher I've had at UNLV. Yeah his tests are hard BUT ALL THE BIOL TEACHERS HAVE HARD TESTS, so I dont understand why people are complaining. Just make flash cards of all the notes and study regularly and you'll do fine
Just take notes on his lectures, read the book, and you will be fine. Take notes on your book as well. Learn concepts, not just vocabulary. The exams are concept-based. He will drop the lowest exam, but if you do not do well on your first exam, chances are, you won't do well on the rest. Much of the learning is done by yourself, so take respons
Typical 4 exams and 1112 quizzes. 3 points extra credit. Read your book and attend the lectures and you'll do fine. He doesn't post his notes online. The professor was more difficult to deal with than the actual course. He is extremely rude so make sure you don't walk out if you need to use the restroom or don't ask any stupid questions.
Was not what I was expecting. I went to every lecture, never missed a day and I still failed the class. It's great that he provides lecture outlines that helps, but when it comes to tests it becomes hard. You're suppose to know the concept and actually understand it, memorizing whatever was on his powerpoints will not help.
Great teacher. He is entertaining and gives great lectures. You will enjoy this class if you like Biology. Just make sure you fully understand the material before taking exams. There are 4 exams, lowest out of the first 3 will be dropped. But do well on the first exam, because the material only gets harder. Quizzes are easy and online. Good Luck!
He is a libertarian and many people find that offensive. He is hilarious and a great teacher. Although this is an introductory course, biology is not an easy subject. You have to read a lo but the majority of the test questions come directly from the notes. I went everyday and i think im going to get a B. Study, work hard and you will be fine.
This guy is AWESOME! I took his class as part of my gen ed requirements. I have not had a bio class in more than 30 years and he made it enjoyable! I learned a LOT of stuff and he is creative in the way he teaches. He has videos that he shows that are cool. He is more than willing to help you if you ask. He is always in his office. Great prof
You will find you will have a love hate relationship with him. He can be really funny on some days and then on other days he is completely rude. He can say some pretty controversial things and will talk down to you like a child. Tests are hard unless you study. I had all the notes so I did good without going to class
Old Jef has the best lectures on campus, he's very knowledgable and always comes up with interesting ways to make you learn or a at least pay attention to his class. You have to study hard though (it's a science course duh!) He never states his beliefs or anything, but a lot of people think he's a jerk for being so sarcastic. Go for it!!
Teacher: Interesting but long lectures, take good notes and READUNDERSTAND chapter before class Tests: Chp prequizzes online, 4 exams, lastcumulative lowest dropped, no study guides, no cheat sheet unlike other professors, ALL questions for exams are from BOOK & LECTURE. Go to study session by TA, understand & study material don't just memorize
He is amazing! Very funny and entertaing. He genuinely knows what he's talking about, and you can tell he's passionate about it! Make sure you study hard and pay attention in lectures so that you are prepared for the tests. People say that his class is too difficult but it's fairly easy to handle as long as you study.
The people who give bad reviews on this professor, are the ones who failed. A - because they didn't show up to class. or B - they didn't study. READ and HIGHLIGHT your book. ATTEND EVERY CLASS. Don't think you're going to pass without going to lecture. HE IS SARCASTIC. Big whoop it makes the class more fun. 4 exams. online quizzes(EASY) & lab(EASY)
Dr. Jaeger is amusing and you can tell he really tries to keep the class interesting. Class is not hard at all if you show up everyday, and remember to do the online quizzes. Without showing up you will fail this class, too much information to miss.
If you have to take Bio 189 at UNLV, take this professor. Will help more than other professors ever will. Will answer any questions you have politely and is willing to give additional help outside of class if you ask. He's really funny and sarcastic, which I enjoyed. Actually made biology lectures interesting. He knows what he's talking about
He provides power points and notes for you to fill in. He wants you to also read the book and gives you extremely easy quizzes for the chapters. If you study, show up to class, make flash cards, and read the book you will easily get an A. If you need any help he is there and he is really cool to talk to. Beware he may say thing that will shock you!
He doesn't explain the material enough because he always goes off on tangents. All my exams I took in this class, I failed although I've studied and went to his study sessions. He isn't clear with what is expected and he messes around too much. If you want a professor that explains the material well, he is not the professor for you.
He is th best teacher I have ever had. He makes learning bio fun and interesting by all his story's that help us to remeber that . If you come to class and listen you'll get an a on his exams. He cares about his students and is always in his office if you ever need help. Just don't use phones in his class or else he will kick you out !
Dr. Jaeger is really cool. He makes biology funny and enjoyable. He walks all over the lecture hall, asks questions, and relates so many things out side of biology--to biology. For me, the first week was rough because his teaching style isn't "conventional" per-say, but after I got use to it, his class became one of my favorites! Good Luck!
If you need to take a lab science, this is the class to take. The lectures are informative and hilarious. Some students would say he's intimidating, but he's more than willing to help out the students with questions that they have. I only popped open a textbook for the online quizzes, but other than that, I got by with just the in-class notes
Dr. Jaeger is really good. He's very sarcastic, but he's funny at the same time. His exams are based off his quizzes & lectures. Make sure to study! Exams are only based on a few chapters, but he gives extra credit, which is helpful. His class is fun. As long as you study & do all the quizzes you will do fine. Dr. Jaeger is a great bio choice!
Jef's classes were always funny! I enjoyed coming to each and every class the material is a little difficult but it is biology what do you expect. I would highly recommend him and you will actually learn something about biology!!!
I was hesitant to take his class because of the poor ratings, but I had no choice. He is a GREAT professor and really knows his stuff. His tests ARE NOT HARD if you take the time to study. Take notes - his lectures cover everything you'll see on an exam. Bad reviews people who expected an easy A did not study. Make flash cards. You will pass.
If you're going to take biology, you have to take this professor. He will teach you many things that you can apply to your daily life. Many claim this class to be very difficult. However, if you do not skip class, read, use flash cards every day, and really pay attention to Jef's lectures (key words) you will do great!
Jaeger is by far the most interesting Professor at UNLV! Im not even a bio major and he makes me want to change my major. He teaches in a real life applicable sense so that the information isnt just so dry and boring. Highly recommend!!
Jef is an amazing professor. If you continue on at UNLV you will be very disappointed, because he is the best lecturer you'll get. Go to his office and he'll hand you the tools to not only pass, but to do better than you thought possible. I thought I was going to fail, but ended up with an A.
Absolutely amazing! He is engaging, funny, energetic, and helpful. Tests are not that hard if you pay attention, take notes, and read the textbook (which is actually pretty interesting). Think high school biology meets TED talk! Loved every lecture. He says it how it is, which is exactly what you need from a science professor.
I REALLY enjoyed this class. Dr. Jaeger was by far my favorite professor at UNLV. He is sarcastic and hilarious which really makes you pay attention and remember what he says. SHOWING UP FOR LECTURES ARE A MUST. Only reading the book won't do you any good. Highly recommend.
Dr. Jaeger is an amazing professor. He is clear on what he wants and his study guides are very helpful. You need to read the book, it is university. People who were struggling obviously fell asleep in class or didn't come at all. 4 exams, drops lowest out of the first three. Very fair and makes sure you understand. He likes Bowie I was happy
Jaeger takes his job seriously and you'll get your money's worth in his class. I am extremely grateful to have had this class because it taught me how to study HARD and really learn the material. Yes, his tests are hard, but with the help of quizlet study guides which I made from the lecture material, I I got all A's!
Great professor, very clear and creative lectures. Kind of arrogant though.
good and we'll prepare good professor, very passionate with his lecture. You must studying to pass this class. Over all very good professor.
I laugh the entire class. He's such a terrific instructor. If you are sensitive though it might be a little brash for you, he calls everyone out on their BS and some topics he discusses will make you cringe and he is VERY loud and animated. Encourages learning instead of memorization.
he is just a great professor. He talks loud and sometimes makes jokes that might offend you lel. But overall great
I really enjoyed taking this class, I've learned alot. Jaeger is very passionate about biology and he makes you work for a good grade. As long as you show up to class everyday and take notes on the lecture outlines he provides, you will do well in his class.
Jef is an interesting professor but his teaching method is more targetted towards the dumb students. He tries very hard to make his lectures funny and entertaining which is a drain for students actually trying to learn something. I wish i did not have to sit through his lectures but he puts questions on the tests that are only in his lecture.
Show up, learn, you'll pass.
Jef is quite a character. He gives lively lectures that are interesting and jokes a lot. He teaches a simplified version of biology, but teaches it well and you learn neat facts. If you don't go to class, you won't pass. The tests are based on the lectures (mainly) and book. If you try to bs him, it won't work. I def. recommend his course!
If you put the effort into this class, you will get a decent grade. I don't know why people complain about him; he's the most interesting professor I've had in any non-major course I've taken. Very passionate about teaching. It's nice to see a professor who enjoys their career :) Go to his office hours and utilize the group study opportunities!
He doesn't end class early (except once or twice by a few minutes), and he does not cancel class unless he absolutely needs to. He does assign reading, but if you don't go to class, you can't really understand the material. He may seem strict or mean, but he is just trying to help you get the best education.
In my opinion, Jef is a poor professor. He is not clear about his grading policy. He says "get to the grade you want and you will get it." Whatever that means. Grading syllabus is vague. He says we will find out if + or - is used on grades when we get our final grade. Why? His unilluminating approach to teaching is more suited to 8th grade science.
To be honest, the people that are upset with Jef's grading criteria are probably the ones concerned with needing a C+ and not a C- in order to graduate. On a more serious note, Jef is a very humorous, clear instructor. He expects you to do the online quizzes, show up for the lectures, and study. If you do that, you will be fine. Recommended 100%
I haven't taken Dr. Jaeger's class in a couple semesters, but I ran into him recently and it reminded me that I wish the professors I have now were more like him. In my opinion he is the best professor I've had in my 16 years of education. His class isn't super easy, but if you put the effort in, its simple enough to get an A. He makes learning fun
Unless you have a strong background in biology, you must take this course seriously if you want to pass.
He's funny as hell. His lectures are engaging and understandable. If he said it in lecture, it's going to be on the test. ONLY STUDY WHAT HE LECTURES! He doesn't follow the textbook completely so be careful! He lets you ask two questions after an exam! FREE POINTS! If you aren't doing well on tests, then there are open book quizzes that help.
I honestly felt that Jaeger was a great professor and you guys should take him for 189. He is clear and very entertaining. His lectures aren't boring so they don't feel like they are super long.
BUY THE TEXTBOOK. Dr. Jaeger is a really great professor! He may seem harsh, but he really just wants his students to put in an effort and learn something. This is how I got an A: attended every class and PAID ATTENTION, took notes, got 10s on all quizzes and labs (easy), read the textbook and wrote flashcards before taking the exams, TRIED HARD!!!
Jef is a great professor. The first few lectures I felt intimidated by him because he calls random people out, but other than that, his lectures are great. He is such a character, so it helps me pay attention during class. The material is fairly easy, all his tests are based off lectures, so make sure to go to class and pay attention!
He was an excellent professor. The material he taught was easy to understand and his quizzes were not hard at all. There is no possible way you could fail the quizes. As for the exams, make sure you attend every lecture and take good notes and you should have no problem passing.
The class was a little challenging for a non major bio class, however Jeager is an awesome professor. He is blunt and keeps you awake all lecture with his great humor. Great class overall
I have never liked biology, or science of any kind really, and this was easily my favorite class this semester. Jaeger is funny and makes the topic fun. Show up to class and take notes on lectures. Take the online quizzes, they are basically free points. Basically, do the things he recommends and you will pass.
Do your quizzes, show up to class & take notes and you'll do fine. You will definitely need to study ahead of time for exams because he covers a lot of material, but he makes the lectures interesting and there are a couple extra credit opportunities. I'm not a bio major but I walked away with a lot of good information about my own health and body!
If you know your science, then take this class with Jaeger. His lectures are interesting. But if you think you may have a hard time/need some help, look for another professor. Jaeger is rude and condescending and I hated having to go into his office.
Dr. Jaeger is an amazing professor. His lectures are very engaging and he teaches the material in a very understandable manner. He may seem very intimidating, but he does everything for good reason. You do have to study a lot but if you attend all the lectures and listen to what he says, you will do well on the tests.
Very strict about cheating but still has a cool side. Lectures can be long and boring. Goes through his slides a bit too fast & you won't have time to write everything down. Definitely need the textbook for the quizzes. Questions on exams can be confusing, enough to trick you in picking the wrong answers. REALLY HAVE TO STUDY and know the material
Lectures are informative, interesting, funny. Not boring. Made easy by providing study guides for every lecture. Uses real-life examples to show/describe subjects. Easy extra credit. You need the textbook for online quizzes, but exam material is from lectures. Answers any questions, even during exams. Show up, make the effort to study, you'll pass.
Dr. Jaeger is a great professor. You might be turned off by his character at first, but you soon realize he's actually a caring guy. His lectures are really engaging and there's not really anyway for you to not pay attention, unless you seriously refuse to. He's also pretty funny, so that keeps lectures entertaining. There's no homework, just tests
Great professor that really knows his stuff. He expects his students to be paying attention during the lecture and isn't afraid of calling you out. Very thorough with the material. Tests require a lot of thinking so you really need to understand everything well. Although it was hard work, the class is enjoyable.
He is an amazing teacher. I suck at science and ended up with a B. If you want to pass you have to go to class, pay attention, take notes , and study. Shocker , I know. Extra credit is given sometimes but you wont know unless you go to class. Gives out outlines , study it and you'll pass the tests!
The professor has an open mind and he says stuff that a lot of professors probably won't say. He does his own thing and gets really into his lectures. He wants participation and he'll call on you randomly. Pop quizzes but he doesn't care about the answers, just guess and you get credit. Lecture important for exams as he doesn't follow the book.
Day 1 thought he was an ass but hes AMAZING. when he says "this will be on test" during lectures It WILL be. Tests will have questions about specific discussions/ex. used in class so show up . WRITE ALL questions from pop quizzes/lec. 99% on exam in some form Need to UNDERSTAND info not just memorize it
As long as you put in effort and show you care then he cares. EXTREMELY available out of class. different than anything I've experienced. Has no filter if he thinks it he says it. As he said he is not "politically correct" but I PROMISE if you go in with an open mind you will LOVE him. Truly amazing prof. Wish I could take another class with him
Dr. Jeager is a great scientist and great professor, he transmitted his knowledge so precisely. If you aren't so great at science, than I would suggest taking this class because his structure forces you to think critically and do some real studying. No study guides whatsoever, just a warning. But he makes it so that you try hard to fail.
If you can handle studying and are not sensitive, I would say this class is great for you. I learned a lot from him. He is very opinionated and will call people out if they are basically being stupid. You have to study a lot for his tests; they are hard. I still got A's on each test though, so study! Lecture isn't mandatory but you need to be there
Make sure you study in advance for all 4 exams
Jef may come off as intimidating in the beginning, but he just wants to see who really cares and who will put the effort into studying. Jef really makes you work for your grade, which means you gotta study study study. DO NOT SKIP CLASS if you intend on doing well in this course. 4 exams worth 150 pts each, and lab . Jef is one of my favorite profs
Jef is a good teacher but he makes the class way too difficult for a gen ed bio class. The only graded work is tests and online quizzes. You can't do the quizzes without the textbook. You really have to study for the tests. Show up to class so you can get the notes.
Pretty straight forward class. Show up to the lecture, take notes, have good study habits and you will pass. He's good at helping outside of class with study sessions before exams.
He tells it like it is, and he really works to make lectures entertaining. He's highly knowledgable in the material, and there's a lot to memorize and understand, but if you're willing to work he's willing to help you. Also he wanted someone to give him a chili pepper, but he looks like somebody's great uncle, so.
Hard professor , need to work extremely hard. I studied and went to study sessions and still only got at best a 78 on tests. Material doesn't seem as hard, but tests are difficult. Hard to connect to teacher although he teaches in a comical fashion.
Great teacher and funny. Need to go to class to pass the exams- questions on what videos he has shown etc. Online quizzes every chapter, easy with the book. Pop quizzes but they do not count against your grade- they're EC opprotunities. Calls on people randomly sometimes and don't fall asleep because he WILL see you.
Excellent introduction to Biology, through Dr. Jaeger, he's difficult and brash but cares about the education and growth of the class, even a class designed for Freshman
The BEST professor I have had so far. His lectures are very informative but never boring. Easy open book quizzes online. Test can be difficult but if you study the notes given and take time to understand it throughly you'll pass. One of only few professors that are truly passionate about teaching students LEARN.
Couldn't ask for a better professor. He challenges us to success. I stay motivated because he keeps the lectures interesting. I never want to miss them! Also, he is very entertaining, maybe he should be a stand-up comedian? #Blackdog
He jokes around too much in class and gets off topic so I wouldn't take him as a teacher. He plays loud music in the beginning of class which I find distracting. He's not helpful when you go to his office hours.
Horrible. It should be an easy class for seniors to take after they've taken the hardest science classes at UNLV but then he makes his exams weird and the written portion graded as harsh as possible so that only few get A's. These A people are the ones who are interested in ecology & want to spend their lives studying how animals interact
Stay away from him, unless you are very passionate about how trees interact with each other and with fungi. He makes the class harder for absolutely no reason at all but to feel better about himself.
Dr. Jaeger is one of the best teachers at UNLV! His lectures are hilarious, and he cares about his students 100%. The tests are difficult, but if you attend the lectures, take good notes, and study, you'll be fine. Definitely take this class if you struggle in science. Jaegar is so fun, and makes his lectures understandable to everyone! TAKE HIM!!
Dr. Jaeger is by far the craziest professor I have ever had. He definitely is passionate about what he teaches. He uses funny and unusual analogies during his lectures so it keeps the class interesting. His exams are pretty difficult so I'd advise studying ALOT. Definitely need the textbook for quizzes!
Dr. Jaeger is an amazing teacher, I highly recommend him for bio 100. If you want a good grade on your exams you must study outside of class and attend the lectures. Quizzes are open book and he gives a couple extra credit opportunities. He stops to answer questions, gives great examples and is hilarious.
If u are looking forward to pass this class, then take someone else's class. he is a tough grader and he will play some loud music to wake u up every class. u will have 4 exam in his class but none of it have a review. so good luck
He is a monster, not a professor. I have no idea why he feels the need to make extraordinarily difficult exams and decide which students do well. He has a clear bias for females, which is weird. He is passionate about Ecology but an awful professor. He posts very SPORADICALLY on webcampus. He grades the written portions VERY HARSHLY. Good luck..
Not an easy A, you must attend class, take notes and read the book. Total of 4 exams, final is cumulative. He really is a great professor, who cares that you actually learn.
He is a really fun professor to have and you learn a lot of valuable information in his class. No this class wasn't an "easy A", but it definitely wasn't a crazy hard class either. If you pay attention, take good notes, and go talk to him if you're confused you should do well. Also, he offers extra credit. For sure need to attend lectures.
Jaegar was a horrible professor. He was inappropriate, rude, would not post any lectures, sporadically posted lecture outlines a he felt like it, and was very picky on exams. He was not here for the student, he was here to make himself feel better. His teaching style is condescending. He created an environment that discourages students from learning
4 exams, no lectures posted online, no pictures allowed to be taken of the slides or recording him. He says if his material ends up online he will find you and "sue you." His exams have variable amounts of MC with long essay questions that no one can get full points on for some reason? He shuffles everyone around as a psychological game b4 exams.
I found Dr J's lectures to be entertaining and interesting, and I am not an ecology-type. I'm not sure what the complaining is about? He printed outlines for the entire class each lecture, and his exam questions came from the outlines. He even told us many of the essay questions. Maybe those complaining should have come to class more often.
He teaches in a comical way and I think his humor could come off negatively towards some people. If you go in with an open mind and open sense of humor he is actually a very interesting professor. Go to class and study for the tests and you should be fine. Not an easy A but not a terribly difficult class either.
Good professor but challenging. Go to class & pay attention because he will call on people. Def gonna spend time studying.
Dr. Jaeger is a unique teacher. He's a blunt guy that is willing to speak his mind on stuff that may not relate to biology. Anyways, if you think you can get past his bluntness, then he's a guy who teaches well. Just be sure to READ the book and the notes he gives you and you should be fine on his tests. Tests are pretty clear if you READ. PLZ READ
First day of class: "He's kind of an a**hole" Second day: "Omg, he's a total a**hole" By the end of class: "I love Jaeger!" He is an amazing instructor, his lectures are hilarious and learned a lot about biology, but mostly, I learned about the impact of group study sessions. Great professor, would def choose his class again!
Disclaimer: only reason I wouldn't take this class again is because I am not interested in biology. That being said, Jaeger made this a good class. If you really hate Bio, take it over the summer like me because it is easier to retain information and you have less labs than the regular semester. NOT an easy A, you have to study for his tests.
Dr. Jaeger is by far my favorite professor at unlv, so much so that I joined his research team. Most of these reviews are non bio majors (these classes do require time, discipline and commitment). He's funny, exams are fair. He will separate the A from the B students, Know the figures. He doesn't post anything, so attend the class you paid for.
Take this class in the summer if you can, it's intense going everyday for 5 weeks, but I feel like it helped in retaining the material. Jef is wild and intense, but he is straight forward and to the point, be prepared to answer questions. Available after class, so pick his brain! He wanted a chilly pepper for hotness, guess I'll be the one lol.
Dr. Jaeger is an amazing professor! He makes biology fun and easy to ununderstand. He is one of those rare professors that knows both what he is talking about and how he can easily explain it to his students. He has a great sense of humor, energy and wonderful teaching style. Great teacher and person in general. Love his classes! .
Even though Jef gets a bad rep he really is a decent teacher. Sometimes he is kind of tough on you in class but that is because it is for your benefit. Classes are really important because everything he talks about in class can and will be used during the tests.
I loved Jef. He's a great teacher, and his lectures are interesting and amusing. I took two low level bio classes with him, and he is by far the best prof. I've ever had in any subject. He holds study sessions before exams, and doesn't assign much hw. Be sure to study everything he lectures about!
Great professor. Seems hard at first but if you show up and go over your notes it is a simple class. He is really funny and always has hilarious and obscure stories to relate to the curriculum. It's beneficial to go to his study sessions. If you're a good student it's a terrific class. He also plays rock n roll which is totally cool.
Dr. Jaeger is one of the nicest professors that I had at UNLV! He is smart and a great teacher too!! He is always available if we need support in learning the material and willing to help us to understand it clearly. I will miss him next semester, for sure!
If you come to class and try to fully understand the content you will pass. He has a no bull attitude, and talking to him is nerve racking 100% of the time, but if you have the guts he will help the best he can. He is tough, but he is by far my favorite professor. Do not be afraid! Be ready for hard essay questions and lots of studying.
Dr. Jaeger is an alright professor. The lecture portion is pretty easy because you get three chances to retake each quiz. The exams are reflective of what he emphasizes during class, so it's important to go to the lectures. He also gives unannounced extra credit opportunities which can be helpful. His jokes can be weird/uncomfortable however.
Dr. Jaegar is a hot and cold professor. Some times you'll feel like you get it, but then his tests are unnecessarily hard especially for a 100 class. No reviews before exams but held a study session before and if nobody asked a question then he just leaves. Has a horrible "holier-than-thou" attitude. Definitely is NOT afraid to speak his mind...
If you're willing to put in the time for this class, it's totally worth it. He honestly is an awesome professor, and is definitely intense in the classroom. You'll need the textbook to take the pre-quizzes and study for tests. Hopefully you can write fast because he goes through notes fast and does not post his PPT online. No pictures or recording!
Great class! Dr. Jaegar is very passionate about his lectures. He has a little sass to him but it makes the class entertaining. You can not ONLY study the night before the exam. You WILL fail if you don't show up to class. If you attend every lecture and study the notes daily there is no reason you shouldn't get an A. He is a great professor!!!
Dr. Jaeger is AWESOME + incredibly hilarious. He is one of the only professor to challenge students, and emphasis on the fact that as a student YOU are the one who can give yourself the best education. !!!ATTEND!!! lecture, !!!STUDY!!! for ALL exams (I recommend making notecards in between lectures) and APPLY yourself when taking this course.
Dr. Jaeger was the most amazing professor I have ever taken at UNLV. He kept it real with the students and did NOT sugar coat anything. I really appreciate his honesty and time when it came to his lectures and exams. He really wants his students to try and learn the material and work for that A! That's what I call a great teacher!
Chapter quizzes online each week, three chances to take them. You NEED the book for these because almost all the questions are on figures in the book. If you attend every lecture, the class will be fairly easy. Print out the lecture outlines, all exams are directly from these. Star points he mentions multiple times because they WILL be on the exam.
Try your best to go to every class & take really good notes. He's definitely got a loud personality but you get used to it. He hates phones and will kick you out of class for them. Gives extra credit pop quizzes. Everything on the exam comes directly from lecture. Important topics he stresses will on the exam, so be sure to mark them in your notes.
Dr. Jaeger is super funny! But don't get caught with your phone, he will FAIL you for the course! And don't get caught online shopping in class, he will kick you out! Easy if you take decent notes, study good for exams, and show up. He gives extra credit quizzes unannounced. Easy if you remember the terms he tells you to remember!
I took his class my junior year, and he is amazing! You have to make flash cards, that is the only way I passed the exams. The Lab was so fun. He is funny and energetic. I fall asleep easily and was wide awake in his class. MAKE FLASH CARDS OF VOCAB!!!
This class was the best class I have taken because I can apply it to real life. He is really good at using examples that make you understand the topic. So many people dislike him but it's only because he makes you work for your grade; that's how it should be anyway. Attendance isn't mandatory BUT exams are on lectures so you choose your fate
Dr. Jaegar is the best professor I've had by far. He makes lectures really interesting and funny. He is really sarcastic and direct (which is why he is so fun to listen to) but some people take it too seriously. He knows what he is talking about and will make you work hard for your grade. I highly recommend.
You might not like him at first, but you are going to love him in the end. He is very sarcastic and sometimes sounds very mean. But he really cares about his students, he doesn't seem like it but he does. You should really study and put effort to pass this class! hang in there then you will pass
Jef is extremely knowledgeable, and if you're lucky enough, he'll call on you in class and you'll realize how much you need to study. He holds study sessions outside of class and although you should expect sarcasm, you'll also learn a lot from him. He cares about you in a tough love way. (PS he asked us to give him the chili pepper in our rating)
Great teacher, makes you interested in the material, doesn't take attendance but if you don't hear him explain the topics you won't get some of them.
He is very smart, articulate, and has excellent knowledge of the topics. When I met him I felt very comfortable because he teaches with humor, so it's stress free learning. And he is also accessible outside class to help the students. Amazing professor!! I miss him!
He is a great professor. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you dont go, its hard to pass the course. Makes Lectures interesting.
Hes been very kind about allowing me to take exams later and going to later classes when needed due to my grandmothers failing health Which has taken my attention away from class now and then. Im working hard to pass the course, but if I dont I honestly dont mind having to retake it. He honestly cares a lot if you care to try.
Jef is literally Dr. House. He is funny if you are not easily offended, which makes lectures both memorable and entertaining. You can get an A because biology 101 is not hard in general. Just take the easy online quizzes, study notes, and read the textbook for the tests. Show up for lectures or like he says you will lose a letter grade each time.
He's really funny and enthusiastic. theres only 4 exams, but there is about 1 quiz a week from the book, but they're not hard. Attendance is not mandatory. But exams are word-for-word off the lectures. He does not post them if you miss them. Easy A if you show up. Also, gives random extra credit for attendance.
Very enthusiastic and entertaining guy, but does come off blunt about life/everything. Entertaining guy nonetheless. Beyond that, attendance is not required per se but his tests are very lecture based and he doesn't post them online. There's an easy lab portion and online quizzes. It's all about the tests so take good notes and pay attention.
Attendance isn't mandatory but if you don't get the notes then you won't pass because the tests are lecture based. There was 4 exams and we were also assigned an online quiz every week or so. The lab is easy since there is only 12 class assignments, 2 essays, and 2 exams. Make sure to study the lecture notes and diagrams in order to do well!
Attendance isn't required but he emphasizes that if you don't attend then you aren't likely to pass his tests (which are heavily lecture-based.) He can be a bit "rude" for some but I find him funny and does have some care for those who do attend his lectures. He can be blunt but that isn't a bad thing.
Professor Jaeger is an excellent professor! His exams are a tad bit on the more difficult side but as long as you show up to class and take good notes you'll be fine. Gives great lectures and is very entertaining as well.
Hes an ok guy though hes terrible at teaching when it comes to pacing and encouragement. Hes so negative about everything its annoying. If you fail one test its the end of the world. And encourages people to drop out which is stupid. If you are a slow learner like me dont take him. Do it online or at CSN its better trust me.
Jef is a really good Bio teacher. He is slightly intimidating at first. If you participate in class you can get an A. He doesn't allow phones in class. He likes to come off as a hard ass but he is actually a nice guy. You have to study hard to get good grades on the tests! Most people were not prepared for the first one so use flash cards.
Jef is the type of professor who makes you, and wants you to work for your grade. His exams are ALL based on his lectures so show up to class, take good notes, study hard and you will do fine. He does not post notes online, so you must show up to class to get the info. He provides you with outlines for his lectures and does weekly online quizzes.
Very harsh in the beginning, first day and had immediate lecture. Made students feel stupid for not knowing material immediately. He constantly talks about how sensitive this generation is and his own political views. He is rude and doesn't care about his students and if they learn or not. He LOVES to intimidate his students and is very good at it.
Do not skip class! The 4 exams are based on lecture notes. MAKE FLASHCARDS TO STUDY. 10 quizzes based on the book (3 attempts). Extra credit in class. Clearly passionate about Biology (frogs?) and making sure we actually learn something. He's kind of sardonic at times and plays loud music at the beginning of class. 10/10 recommend though.
At first, Jef was very intimidating. In order to get an A, you must show up to every class and study hard. This was the only class I had this semester that didn't make me fall asleep because Jef makes his lectures funny and entertaining. Some people don't like him but I think it's because they thought this class was an easy A. Be ready to study!
Teaches the class like it isn't a gen ed class with no requirements, and makes students feel stupid for not knowing entire taxonomies of bears. Online quizzes need the textbook, and he loves to discuss his own political views in the class. He also will get up in your face and stare you down while lecturing. And he is the only teacher for the class.
You cant take amazing notes listen to lecture AND have enough time to comprehend what's really going on However he designs it that if you put in A LOT of effort it will pay off Just be aware this class requires your full attention odd for level 100 so dont take this along with your six other classes DO NOT CRAM and go to EVERY study session
Everything that's on the test he goes over in lecture. He has note packets that u fill out with the lecture, they're also your study guide. He calls on people randomly, so I recommend you sit up front in the second row to avoid it. He makes jokes a lot. Theyre hit or miss. Overall he seems nice. Just pay attention and study.
I would suggest taking this non-major class at CSN. He crams too much info into his lectures and moves to fast to retain said info. He doesn't post slides to study at home so you better take good notes if you don't, you're screwed. Overall, he's a fun and energetic professor but a little too hardcore for a 100's class.
He is a little intimidating, but if you let him know you dont understand he will explain so you will. He does give extra credit from pop quizzes but they do not count as a grade. Tests are fine if you actually study well.
Horrible teacher. It was the hardest class and I studied my behind off. He makes you feel stupid and his tests are not straight forward. I had to drop the class so I did not make my GPA turn to crap. I am going to csn to take this class because it is way too difficult for nonmajors. I got a 54 on the first exam and studied so hard.
Dr. Jaeger is a funny professor. He makes lectures interesting and drops hints every now and then on topics that will be on the exam. He also does random extra credit points for attendance. However, he doesn't post power-points online and the note taking outlines are not helpful at all. Flashcards somewhat help. MUST read the book + take own notes.
This class is waaaaay too hard for non major 100 course, but Jef likes it that way! I suggest to always sit in the front of class, and attend every single lecture. Missing a lecture means you will fail the exam. There are 4 exams, all require some serious studying. I suggest visiting him in office hours because he does give good advice.
Jaegar is a really interesting professor that is passionate about teaching. HOWEVER, this course is extremely difficult for a 1oo level course. Attendance is not recorded but if you miss class it will have an effect on your grade. I studied for the exams like crazy and never managed to get an A! You will definitely need to put in the work.
This class is ridiculously difficult for a 100 class. Lectures are straight from the textbook, and he frequently goes off topic. Is not approachable at all so working with him is a nightmare. Find or create a study group and you will do fine. Sometimes gives extra credit during lectures. Online quizzes are horrible.
Jef is Entertaining! Certainly did not fall asleep. The course was not THAT hard! Went to class, went to lab, read textbook, tried a little. Have a B, maybe a B+
He makes you work for your grade? Oh for sure!! But all concepts are understandable and manageable when you dedicate time to study. You definitely cant pass if your studying the night before. study an hour at least after one lecture and you will be fine. Hes super entertaining and I enjoyed his class a lot.
hard for a 100 level course, but then again, you should've taken biology in HS. if you're too sensitive and have bad work ethic, just drop from school :/ please remember this is college and it requires work :) for those that do stick around, i can confidently say you'll learn in his class
Jef tells you exactly what you need to do to pass his class from day 1. This class requires effort and studying, but if you make flash cards and go to class you'll do fine. Jef offers a review session before every exam and even offers random extra credit just for coming to class. His lectures are awesome and he definitely cares about his students.
Jef says his class is a high school level bio course, if youre like me and youve been out of hs for more than a decade you have to put in work. Dont skip class! I did once and wound up pregnant. Everything on the tests comes from the lectures. Make flash cards for each lecture before the next class and study the hell out of them - dont cram.
So much info is gone over for a 100 class. Read the book so the lectures make sense and go to every class. This biology course needs to be taken serious if you don't want to see Jeff Jaeger again !!!!!!!
One of my favorite professors that I've taken. All of his lectures were interesting and hilarious. He may be a bit much for some, but he was alright to me. 11 total quizzes that required the book. 4 exams in total (lecture based), definitely hard to pass if you don't attend. 6 extra credit opportunities worth 2 points each, just attend the class.
This class was way too hard for a level 100 class. He says its because us students dont know how to study anymore. READ THE CHAPTERS AFTER LECTURES. I taught myself the material because he rambles a lot and is hard to follow. He is very unapproachable and often answers questions with a sarcastic question. Sit in the front row.
Jef is passionate about BIOL, but demands too much for a 100 lv; for non-majors so most students will not be taking any other BIOL. Attendance is not required, but there is random EC and notes are not posted online. 11 online quizzes that ask questions directly from the book. 1st exam average was 60%, 2nd 76% ("the easy one"), 3rd was 70%.
Jef honestly knows what he's talking about and is very passionate and wants to share that passion with his students. Go to class, use the notes he posts (they're kinda fill in the blank notes, skim the chapters, make flashcards/quizlets and you'll be fine. Random EC opportunities in class. He's funny and sarcastic.
He gave very lively lectures. You can tell he was adamant about students actually learning the subject. Youll definitely have to study a bit for each test, but if youre in class taking notes, youll know whats on the test. His material isnt super complex, just needs practice. Overall great professor.
If you think this Bio 100 class is an easy A, it's not. You're going to have to work hard for your A or your B. After all, we are in a university right? I'm a mom of three and work part-time. If I could do it, so can you. He was very approachable in person and by e-mail. Take his class, you'll learn something.
Dr. Jaeger's Bio 100 class was so interesting. His style of teaching is a little intimidating but if it wasn't for him screaming his lectures at you I probably would have never learned some of the material. He is a super funny and honestly as much as I hate bio this was probably my favorite class this semester.
Jef is a very knowledgeable guy who setup the class for students to pass. He provides the lecture notes for you, does his best to explain concepts, and gives extra credit. He holds study sessions before each exam, but can be disrespectful when you ask him questions. He is an upfront individual and if you don't put in the effort you won't do well.
Jef is easily one of the best professors I've had. This man cracks the most hilarious jokes in the middle of his lectures, which made them entertaining. I remember certain topics specifically due to the jokes. Go to lecture and you will pass, the exams are not hard you just need to study. PS Using only Quizlets online won't do it for you, trust me.
His class was fun but a challenge at the same time. His exams are purely based on the lectures. The textbook was only used for online quizzes, I managed by using an online copy but of a different version. He makes the lectures enjoyable by cracking jokes every now and then. There are a few classes where he gives extra credit for just being there.
Professor Jef has a different teaching style compared to other professors. The class is composed of 11 quizzes (based off the book) and 4 exams (based off lecture) and some extra credit. Do not think you will get a good grade in the class just by going to class, you will have to study the material using flashcards outside of class.
Dr. Jaeger is a bit intimidating at first but really is a nice guy who cares about his students. Offers 10 points of extra credit just for showing up to class. Makes learning fun and if you go to lectures you do not need to read in order to pass. Get ready to learn the taxonomy of a brown bear!
Jef is very knowledgeable on the subject, but doesn't quite understand that more than half of the class doesn't. He provides lecture notes guides, which help! But he fly's through the lecture, you barely have time to finish writing your notes before he has already moved on, makes it hard to understand the lesson. Funny guy though.
I loved Jef as a professor! He comes off very harsh at first, but you quickly learn that he cares about your success. Go to his study sessions whenever offered, go to EVERY class, go to his office to look at your test, he gives extra credit if you're in class. Flash cards are your friend in this class, but he will thoroughly explain any questions.
you NEED to come to class you NEED your textbook you NEED to listen this IS a hard course Don't say stupid stuff and expect him not to call you stupid. It's college. Grow up.
Attendance isn't graded, but act like it is. If you miss a single day, you will definitely be lost. Honestly if you take good notes during the lecture, you don't have to rely on the textbook to get a passing grade.
Dr Jaeger is very enthusiastic and a bit crazy, but he knows his stuff and wants you to do well. Show up to lectures, he gives chances of extra credit, and go to his study sessions.
He made the subject extremely interesting through his lectures... which were loud and enthusiastic. He is really passionate about this stuff and it made me feel the same way. You HAVE to study to succeed in this class. He will call you out and make a fool out of you if you don't know. This has been my favorite college course taken so far.
Jef Jaeger is a weird man, but thats what makes him unique and memorable. Jaeger is also a hilarious man that will make you laugh, which is great for an 8:30am class. I highly recommend. Be aware though, if you skip his class youre more than likely going to miss a couple of extra credit opportunities, and free exam answers.
Youll probably either Professor Jaeger very funny and entertaining or annoying and mean. If you dont attend every lecture and read youre going to get a low grade on the tests. He draws a large portion of the test material from the lecture. Also, there are extra credit pop quizzes youll get points for just for showing up. If you do the work, A!
Dr. Jaeger was my favorite professor last semester and I looked forward to attending his lectures. He has a lot of jokes that you kind of have to listen to get so most the class didn't really think of him as funny but if you pay attention during lecture the tests will be extremely easy as all the questions are derived from the lecture.
This is a tough class for a 100 level course. Flies through material which makes it hard to retain info and take notes. Expects you to know the material as well as he does and makes it known. Be prepared to make tons of cue cards and hope that gets you through. Forget about your other classes, you wont have time for them. Very pompous as well!
Revels in belittling students and making snide remarks. Speeds through lecture and doesn't understand why students don't comprehend every aspect of biology like he does. Disruptive during exams and gets on students for not finishing before the alloted time is even up. Prepare to be stressed out! His negative demeanor is not conducive for learning.
The tests are very hard and the way that lessons are taught are not easy to understand. He doesnt teach, he yells what he is supposed to be teaching.
GREAT professor, sets the class up to where you cannot fail as long as you show commitment to his class. Extra credit is only for students who SHOW up to class. 3 Exams, fairly straight forward based on only what he says in his lectures. Pre-quiz every week, open book. Funny teacher who is not afraid to call his students out for not studying.
Take him! he knows what he is talking about and he is so funny that you will never get bored in his class. 4 exams (half mc, half free response). The usual workload for a 400 level class. Don't take him if you get ofended easily.
Only hard if you don't show up for class. The lectures are more useful than any of the reading. The guided notes are the best. He seems scary at first but is actually a very good professor who'll keep you engaged.
Claims that the reason you'll fail is if you skip class, but its just because he makes his exams way more difficult than for a level 100 course. Do not take him for your bio 100 credit. Claims that if people got a good score on an exam it must be because they cheated.
Jef thinks that every one of his students is a genius and easily understands biology when, in reality, we dont know anything. You could be an art major or something completely unrelated to biology and hell expect you to memorize every single topic we discuss and how its important. He is extremely strict while taking tests and does not care.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU ARE NOT A BIO MAJOR!!! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU ARE JUST TRYING TO GET YOUR SCIENCE CREDIT!!! HE IS THE WORST. ALL HE DOES IS ROASTING STUDENTS FOR NOT STUDYING AND TRYING TO FAIL EVERYONE. If you get a high score on your test, hell think that youre cheating and give you a bad exam grade!!! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!
His lectures are interesting and he makes the course very enjoyable. His PowerPoint lectures and provided outlines helped guide the reading of the textbook. I learned more about biogeography than I would have cared to. He is caring, IF you care. So you better like Joshua trees. His grading very fair and he provides beneficial feedback.
He has a different sense of humor, but I will warn you he isnt the forgiving type. He seems not to be fond of pre-health students in his class and is easily offended if you appear bored of the content.
He is very rude to students and degrades them as people. He accused a few people of cheating together and we do not know or collaborate together. I would personally look for another BIO 100 teacher because he is reluctant to help students.
He accuses everyone of cheating. No matter what you do its never good enough. Take my advice and choose a better professor.
The hardest part about this class is his exams. I feel like no matter how hard you studied, youre guaranteed to fail because the questions really arent a reflection of what was thought in class. You learn about the key terms and key concepts, but most of those questions arent even on the exam. He never made it clear what is on the exam;
I'm a music major, but I still thoroughly enjoyed this class. You have to actually learn the material (people seem to be surprised by this?!) It was the only class I ever had to study for during my undergrad, which is probably why there are complaints. He's funny, he teaches the material well and there is no busy work. Go to class and take notes.
Currently taking w lab ONLINE. MANY tests & quizzes w labs that we dont even do ourselves. Lab coord. are just like Jaeger where they expect u to know everything about bio. Wont tell u what u got wrong to correct urself or improve in any way. First class meeting on zoom he said, idk how to even pronounce that name but turn ur stupid mic off!
Currently taking this course online right now. Jaeger gives bad feedback because you don't get to see your test because he's super paranoid about people cheating which leaves a lot of students not learning from their mistakes. Lab coordinates expect you to know how the course works already which is wild. Also Jef made an insensitive covid joke.
This teachers lectures are so hard he gives maybe 10-15 multiple choice questions and the rest you have to type sentences on and are usually about 40 questions. I watched the videos and studied and am still failing. this course is not optimal for online and the lab coordinators expect you to know how to do these labs online already? it's bizarre.
Hes an awful teacher. Hes doing online and s overall the worst professor Ive had. He doesnt care about the students. He probably only still has a job because hes a ten year. DONT TAKE THE CLASS. YOULL REGRET IT AND SO WILL YOUR GPA
Lectures are not complicated & since they're prerecorded, you can pause, rewind, & restart. Optional class meeting once a week, but very beneficial if you're struggling & have ?'s. Tests are mostly short answer. Quizzes are 10 multiple choice, open book, 60mins. BIO is not an easy class, make sure you spend time w/ it & ask for the professor's help
Very nice and descriptive in the lectures, yet a very difficult grader when it comes to grading. I understand wanting to deter from cheating, but it sometimes seems a little dramatic considering it is a non-biology major course. You will not pass this course if you do not read the textbook and thoroughly study the subject matter.
Dr. Jaeger in pre-recorded lectures and in live meetings are 2 completely different people. He is much more preferable in pre-recorded lectures. I am a straight A, dean's list student and this has been the only class I have struggled in. Tips: lectures are needed for the 4 exams, reading's needed for weekly quizzes. Too hard for a non-major course!
He prides himself on a low pass rate and tough exams. Except to devote your entire life to him for the next couple of months. He is honestly mean to students and I didn't feel comfortable showing up to glass because I didn't want to be insulted by him. He had no sympathy for the students and refuses late assignments even withcovid related excuses.
The worst professor I have ever taken. All of his exams are 95% written response & super difficult for no reason. He offends multiple students in lectures and expects you to know EVERYTHING about bio (its non science major bio). He is the only professor who teaches BIOL100 so be ready to dedicate your entire semester to this class. DONT TAKE HIM!
Jaeger makes the class far more difficult than a 100 level class needs to be. He is more focused on memorization rather than learning. Some of his test question revolve around his own opinions, too. It is ridiculously hard to learn when there is no teaching being done. Does not respect students or their time outside of class time whatsoever.
Jeff does not care about students at all. He will briefly explain a subject but expect you to do tremendous outside work to pass the exams. Do not take this class if you have other classes you need to pass. In the first meeting he said "you can try to report me to the dean like all the others and nothing will happen.". Take ANY OTHER PROFESSOR.
if I could give him a 0, I would. He disrespects students, accuses everyone of cheating, has ZERO empathy regarding the pandemic and issues the students have, and his exams are EXTREMELY HARD. I've pulled multiple all-nighters to study for this class and still seemed to do bad regardless. His teaching style is horrible. DO NOT TAKE JAEGER !!!
Jef Jaeger is a horrible and degrading professor. Does not teach students and makes them feel like dirt. Wont teach anything and expects everyone to know everything. Makes fun of students and could not care less about them. Told me there is something wrong with my brain for thinking multiple choice is easier than short answer.
Needlessly hard class. He makes comments about how if you get A's on exams, you must be cheating, and how he teaches the class like it's meant for biology majors and like it isn't a general education requirement. He has funny lectures and gives reviews and is understanding, but don't take him if you want a class that's 10x harder than it should be.
Insensitive & condescending personality aside, not bad in prerecorded lectures. Exams were not that hard for me. Study lectures & outlines, be able to explain concepts simply but similar to lecture. Class meetings Q&A style, classmates clashed with him, took forever to go over 1 topic, barely helped, barely went. Never wanted to interact with him.
His personality is not the best. He seems to struggle with being politically correct and mocks the very notion of it in class. He is good at teaching the material but he controls basically everything for Bio 100 and he is pretty strict on grading, late assignments, and tests. I would not take his class again
His online lectures were way better than what I experienced in other classes. Dr. J provides lecture outlines which are essentially study guides and he told us what was on the exam during the optional study sessions. He is an interesting older guy, not sure what all the negative is about, probably not expecting effort in college.
horrible professor. he makes the class much harder than what it needs to be. the class is so unstructured and gives no help to his students. this is the worst professor ive ever had in all my years of school.
This class is super time-consuming and difficult. Which makes it difficult because students have other classes to worry about. The study guide sucks because it's literally everything from the chapters and it is a lot of material which sucks because the exam is only 40 questions and you could be studying something that won't be on the exam. I hate.
He literally makes students feel uncomfortable. He thinks any question a student asks him is stupid and he wont answer it. The lecture part of this class is very time consuming and the worst part of the whole class because of him. The lab part is really easy and simple if you follow directions.
ive never had to drop a class before but this one did it for me. for a 100 non-major class, he expects so much from his students and doesnt care AT ALL about personal / COVID situations. Rude and condescending. Pre-recorded lectures are interesting, but how he grades / the way the class is set up its like he wants you to fail.
If you want a professor who's more concerned with you not cheating than actually teaching you, Jaeger is the man for you. He'll also waste class time yelling at people to pay attention, turn on their camera, or for not participating.
Good lectures. Unnecessarily hard exams. It's a lot of information packed into one exam which is basically half written.
Professor Jaeger is AWESOME! If you are looking for a monotone nerd up front reading a PowerPoint, Jaeger is not your guy. He truly loves what he is teaching and it is contagious. He is the best science teacher I have ever had and I would highly recommend his course.
If you're simply trying to get your science credit, do not take Jaeger. His class is harder than it needs to be. Will not tell you what to study for the exams and expects you to memorize everything out of his lectures. Not an open note, open book class, which isn't fair considering how much material is covered. Even doctors need to look things up.
His class is harder than it needs to be. Unnecessarily hard exams. He is more concerned about students cheating rather than properly teaching you. He wastes his Webex meetings making "okes and sometimes rather in an unprofessional manner. He also mocks students, is rude, and makes us students feel bad about ourselves. Does not provide us a grade.
The optional review sessions were extremely useful for the exams, but very few students actually participated. I think some students are simply upset that they need to actually study for the course. I had to study for the exams but it wasnt that difficult. The canned lectures were good.
Jaeger's class was an experience. He should really be ashamed of what he pushes onto young minds (in terms of fact vs fiction). He discouraged students to ask questions and for help (if you don't know something he will call you out). Tests focus on nitty-gritty aspects that are mentioned very rarely. In short, he is a member of group think).
The most annoying thing for this class was taking tests with lockdown browser (my class was online). Other than that I likes this class. He's kinda funny during lectures and makes lectures very engaging. The information is honestly super interesting. He provides outlines that follow the flow of the lectures so they serve as very good study guides.
Let me remind you here, we have other classes Jef! He makes the exams close to impossible and has 5 multiple choice questions, then 35 short answers. Again, ridiculous. His exact words at the beginning of the year were "If you get an A, I will assume your cheating" like what kind of bs is that. If your thinking of taking this class, DONT!!!!
Awful class, everything is insanly unnecessary very hard. No sympathy for extra credit. We all have other classes that can be just as difficult but he makes it more than impossible to his class. Tests are literally 140 points with 40 questions and 39 of the questions will be short answers. SO RUN NOW!
Extremely hard class. The tests are made to be difficult so the majority of students fail unless they spend weeks studying. Professor Jaeger did hold review sessions which helped me prepare for the exams. He isn't a terrible professor, he's actually fairly good at explaining the material. The class is just way too hard for a 100 level class.
One of the worse professors I have ever taken in my college career. Tests were so hard even if you studied for hours on end, very lecture heavy and does not respect students or care for them even in a global pandemic. 10/10 do not recommend.
If I could give this professor 0 stars I would. For a non-bio major class, he makes it incredibly hard to pass. I am an A student and have had to drop out previously. Test are incredibly hard, with 5-7 multiple choice and 30+ short answers worth 4 points each. Gives lecture guides but way too much information to study for a single test.
One thing to note is that I am not very interested in Biology, and this course is quite hard for non-majors. He does provide all the information for the tests and gives sort of a study guide for the exams and such. I failed two of the exams and got Ds on the last two, but was still able to pass with a C if you just do all labs and quizzes.
In all honesty, Jef isn't that bad. I am a social work major and despite the material being a lot it wasn't very difficult. If you pay attention during lecture and do some studying you should be fine. The previous reviews had me thinking I would fail the class but truly, it's not bad. Put slightly more effort in and you'll pass for sure.
Jef is very underrated. Yes, he's too paranoid about students cheating and it sucks. He uses Respondus and it's a nightmare. Took BIOL100 during the summer and it was a LOT of work. But he's also passionate about biology and he's hilarious in a curmudgeonly way. His jokes don't always land but at least he tries. Generous grader as well.
At first glance, Dr. Jaeger may seem like a jaded old man who yells at clouds, but if you are able to overcome that knee-jerk reaction to his attitude and really think about what he is actually doing, then between the preview assignments that are practically free points and the study guides, you will realize that he genuinely wants you to succeed.
I took Professor Jaeger's class online last year and I honestly didn't enjoy his class along with many of my other classmates. But now that I'm taking his class in person, his teaching method and lectures are absolutely amazing and his class is very enjoyable! He gives pop quizzes, but they are extremely helpful for future exams.
He is honestly not as bad as the other comments say. His way of teaching is interesting and fun, definitely not a boring lecturer. It's not an easy A though, you have to put in some effort and study for that A. Everything on the test is on the provided note outlines from the lectures, despite what everyone says. He is very knowledgeable and funny.
He's a great professor and his class is honestly not hard. If you show up, pay attention, take notes, and look them over, you should do fine on his exams. The course requires some studying. The exams are mostly short essay and he expects straight forward detailed answered. I thought he was funny and his sarcastic comments made lecture entertaining.
Very unaccommodating through the pandemic. He makes this class intentionally difficult and is disappointed when we are not science majors (despite this class literally being called BIO for non-majors) He can be very offensive, rude, and insensitive. You also have to purchase HIS books which is always shady to me. Answers must be in his words.
This class was very difficult. Even when attending all lectures, it can be really difficult. There is a total of 4 tests and a mini quiz each time before class. If you want to pass, you need to show up to class and actually pay attention. This class also requires you to study a ton. The class lecture note handouts he gives is very helpful. ATTEND !
He is a pretty good professor if you do what is expected of you. He is slightly over paranoid about cheating but outside of that he is a good professor. Plus some of his jokes are funny.
Jef is one of the funniest professors Ive had. This was my favorite class this semester. He has a witty humor, but thats why class is so fun. We had 4 exams and one paper, easy peasy. They were mostly essay questions (if that helps). Everyone who submitted a bad review probably does not know how to study. We are in college, you have to try.
Dr. Jaeger's lectures are extremely helpful because of the notes he provides. If I didn't attend the lectures, I doubt I would have gotten the grade that I did on my own. You definitely need the textbook to do the quizzes before class but besides that I didn't really use it at all. I recommend taking his class, maybe you'll enjoy his yelling too.
Wouldn't recommend taking this class. 4 exams. Quizzes based off of the textbook. Gives extra credit opportunities during lectures. Show up to lectures or you won't understand the material. Very paranoid about cheating. Never seen exam proctors for a 100 level course until this class. Blames students for averaging D/F's on exams.
Avoid him. He thinks just because you are a science major you want to drive Ferraris and buy expensive houses (his words during office hour). He is bitter. He plays hard rock metal in the beginning and during exam he will keep telling you how much time is left after every 15 minutes to give you anxiety. His exams are hard too.
Dr. Jaeger is honestly one of my favorites at UNLV. At first I thought hed be mean based off rmp, but hes actually super funny and his class was great! No homework, a few extra credit quizzes in class, and 4 exams. His exams are all written response, so be prepared for hand cramps. His questions are very fair and mostly just about the main topics
This class was absolutely HORRIBLE! I told him once he expects to much from students for a 100 level class and he said it was not too much that 12-15 hours a week of studying was doable. He is not understanding at all and thinks that we all have our Phd in biology like he does. He is tenure to UNLV so there is no point in even trying to complain.
Attend his lectures and it works out. There is a textbook for the class, but he reduces his tests down to what he covers in lecture. Focus on his lectures and cover the materials and it should be fine.
Prof Jaeger is one of the best professors I've had at UNLV. He is funny and he makes his lectures interesting. 4 exams, mini quizzes before each lecture, and extra credit given in class. Do not take this class if you are not ready to work or if you get offended easily. If you don't show up, your chances of passing are low. Overall, he's great!
Honestly, I wasn't a fan of his at the beginning of the semester, but he grew on me over time. Definitely attend lectures and take good notes. If you pay attention in class and do well in the lab portion you will be fine for exams. Use Quizlet to study for them!!
Honestly, Dr. Jaeger may seem intimidating at first but if you attend lectures and read the textbook you will be fine. His lectures are entertaining and actually make biology pretty interesting! Also, he has study sessions prior to the test and those really helped me. If you put effort and try to actually learn in this class, you will be set.
I enjoyed this class because he isn't boring, he's super realistic about life. He just expects you to get a C to pass. His exams are what I would say is the hardest part of the class since I have test anxiety. There is four main exams throughout the class, he gives out pop quizzes as EXTRA CREDIT. That really really boost your grade.
I took this class a few years ago and I find myself quoting Dr. Jaeger at least once a week. You actually have to take notes and have your effort match your grade, that seems to be frowned upon. Do not be mistaken by negative comments, it all seems to be rooted in his high expectations which are reasonable given that we're adults.
Loved Prof Jaeger. Many extra credit opportunities IF you show up to class--super easy points too. Quizzes are open book and also really easy. Show up to class and you should get a good grade as long as you review your notes before exams. Makes going to lectures fun by cracking jokes and making it interactive. Would definitely recommend him!
Avoid! He's extremely paranoid about cheating and has very high expectations for a 100-level class. Blames students for bad grades, even if the whole class does poorly. Lectures are helpful (take notes!), but prepare for some weirdly unprofessional jokes. Does offer lots of EC. Exams are long and you don't get to see what you got wrong to study.
Avoid this professor if you can!! this is the most self-absorbed narcissistic professor I have ever had! His insensitivity and rude jokes are very unprofessional. I felt extremely uncomfortable every time I had to go to his lectures. He embarrassed me multiple times for asking a question about the lecture and ended up with me walking out crying. :(
Dr. Jaeger is a great professor who made biology really interesting! He always made things easy to understand. The class isn't too hard as long as you go to class, do the reading, and study for the tests you'll be fine.
Lectures heavy and will say things some students will not understand. Gets distracted in lectures and often insults this new generation or says things that are inappropriate as a professor. Good person hopefully but very old fashioned and needs to not be so hard for a non bio major.
AVOID. Professor states he wants to create a participating environment, yet ridicules any wrong answer and disguises it as skepticism. Throughout this class he will most assuredly single you out in a crowd and try to humiliate you.
Easy to pay attention to, he is very theatrical and engaged during lectures. Gives EC to people who go to class, makes lessons easy (and actually fun) to understand. Tests cover everything in lectures, so nothing is unexpected. Funny and interesting, and is very creative in the way he teaches
Jef was honestly the funniest professor I've ever had. He is actually insane to have a class with but he makes the topics fun to learn and understand. You do have to study a lot out of class though to pass the tough tests, but there's no homework and only quizzes before class, but is generally a really interesting class with a crazy professor.
fun teacher. many extra credit opportunities. phone not allowed so u pay attention. not a boring class. if u study and make flashcards you'll pass.
Prof Jaeger was a great and refreshing lecture this semester. He is just the personality necessary to bring you out of the robotic type lecturing professors and TAs. Plenty of opportunity to succeed in his class, and readily accessible when needed. If you need a professor that is an amazing, and real person; enroll in this class
Professor Jaeger is definitely an interesting guy. His lectures are interesting and he gives you guided notes which is really nice. Lots of extra credit. Very strict about not having phones out, he will call you out. Attendance is not mandatory but his tests cover a lot of material so you should try to go to every class.
Professor Jaeger is AMAZING! I took his course Fall '22 and it was the most I have ever learned in BIO after taking AP in high school. Attendance is not graded but lectures are the key to success; no lecture you will most likely fail. Extra credit "pop quizzes" are in class opportunities only! He makes BIO real FUN and interactive! Take his class!
Dr. Jaeger offers very engaging and informative lectures as well as a very clear grading criteria. He only expects you to get a C and overall was an enjoyable class.
Professor Jaeger is a great teacher to have for a biology course. He manages to make a lecture-heavy class into something more memorable and digestible. Don't skip class- there are many opportunities for extra credit. Weekly quizzes (not too bad) and four exams (give yourself enough time to study).
Dr. Jaeger is funny and very engaging in his lectures, but he has an ego like nothing else. He is strict on cell phone use, and he calls out and ridicules students for any questions and answers. His tests are extremely difficult, covering weeks of lectures within a 50 question exam. If you miss one lecture, you're practically screwed.
as a class it was hard but as long as you show up for lectures, take good notes, and do the homework you will do well. attendance isn't required but a lot of info for tests is gone over in class only and there are extra credit opportunities often
Not sure why this class was one of the hardest classes I have taken. You have to study a lot to receive a good grade on the exams (which were a major part of your grade). This guy is very sarcastic but charismatic. He's an interesting professor. Extra credit for those who attend the lectures.
Dr. Jaeger is hilarious and is perfect for this course. Attendance not required but if you don't show up you are basically screwed on exams. He rewards those who come to class with pop quizzes that are worth extra credit. Take him if you will show up to class and you will do fine.
Dr. Jaeger is a great professor. At first, I was hesitant as I read previous reviews but he was my favorite course/instructor this semester. The quizzes are easy as long as you read the textbook. The exams aren't difficult as long as you attend his lectures. He makes biology interesting and is very funny. Manage your time & you'll be fine.
attendance isn't mandatory but you will struggle if you don't go. He gives us guided notes for lectures and the lectures themselves are entertaining.. he is one interesting character, really commits to the bit I will say. He makes the content understandable and the course itself isn't too bad as long as you go to lecture and study.
Honestly great professor, made biology fun and he's pretty funny. Attendance is not required but things that he says in class WILL be on the exam, and the slides are not available outside of class. The pop quizzes are just extra credit if you do bad on exams. There are pre-quizzes for every lecture on texbook material, wouldn't worry about it tbh.
The way Jef Jaeger sets up his class is a recipe for a bad grade. He does not provide an actual reformed study guide other than the packets we fill out during lecture. Keep in mind, Biology has so many small details and key notes to the point where it is near impossible to remember everything, so the exams are extremely difficult.
very wordy questions on exams, 50 questions on 4 exams which covers a lot, notes do not match exams what so ever. avoid this class if you can!
The class can be a little difficult with a lot of information to take in. But, he does give you note outlines to use as study guides and as long as you memorize the guided notes, you should pass the exams. Read the textbook carefully, but it is helpful. He gives extra credit in person. Just don't slack off.
Prof. Jaeger brings a fun and engaging approach to BIO100. Attendance is key, but the lectures are worth it - he makes the content interesting and provides helpful resources like guided notes. UnstuckStudy AI was a game-changer for my exam prep. As long as you stay on top of the work, you'll do well.
Dr. Jaeger is a good professor. This class is exam/quiz heavy. There is no homework. You MUST attend class if you want to pass. He gives out extra credit on random days. Pay attention during the lecture and take notes. Read the textbook after each lecture. This is not the professor for you if you are looking for an easy A. You must put in the work!
Imo he gives good lectures and is really good with condensing a lot of the key topics of the subject. I took AP biology so it could be different for those who don't have a strong background in bio but if you did, it's a lot of the same material. if you read the book, go to class, make meaningful connections from lab and STUDY you'll pass the tests.
If you don't already have a background in biology/are good at it, then good luck. He expects you to already know stuff and understand it the first time. His lectures are really fast and makes sure you're paying attention bc he randomly selects ppl for answers. The exams are difficult but he lets you know what will be on them. He's funny though lol
Honestly for a professor who is teaching BIO to a bunch of non biology majors, he was not all the best. Exams are very lecture heavy so make sure you attend them, and study outside of class! Personally i would avoid taking him due to his off hand remarks and how he singles people out in class, but overall if you put in the work you will pass class.
Dr. Jaeger is a strong personality- so sensitive students who require someone soft to baby step them through classes: this is NOT for you. You need to go to lecture, take notes, pay attention, you're going to need to study and be prepared to actually study. You can't BS in this class... If you want to actually learn, take this class! Not an easy A!
He may try to intimidate the class during the first couple of lectures. Learn to love his personality, he will make the lectures fun and amazing. Feel free to engage in the discussion and ask numerous questions. He will make less progress with the lecture and have to cut a unit out of the course toward the end. Hooray for you, less to study!
Jef has extra credit, and he does it randomly during the lecture. He will do a pop quiz and give you an index notecard. Be sure to attend class as frequently as possible because he does it randomly. The extra credit is worth it. If you don't know the material, never leave it blank; always put something. Remember: "Black Dog"
Dr. Jef is indeed a dazzling silver fox, but he does need Jesus. He will try to intimidate the class during the first couple of lectures. Be prepared. He may skip through some lecture slides quickly, but he doesn't do it as much the further you get into the semester. Learn to love his personality; he makes the class entertaining and silly.
Be sure to study well for his exams! Studying is absolutely necessary, as there is a lot of information to know because Biology is a dense subject. Make sure to test yourself as a study method, make flashcards, or review the information and make sense of it. The quizzes before the lecture are a great introduction to the lecture material and unit.
Bruh be prepared to study your bones off. You have to attend every lecture in order to understand the material. The exams can be very detailed, so it's important to study every single detail! He will have a random pop quiz as well. These pop quizzes are actually extra credit points, so they'll add on to your exam score.
Difficult class.
Jus don't take this class ever.. does not care about students and his exams r tough as hell… if you want a good grade in Biol100, jus take a different class. DONT WASTE YOUT ENERGY
Not sure what these comments are about. Dr. Jaeger was probably one of the most engaging professors I have ever had. Many professors are reading off slides, he doesn't. He gives out copies for ALL of his lecture notes, only electronics allowed to be out are laptops and ipads for note-taking. Trust me, you won't need your phone. He is GREAT.
This is the first level 100 class i've had to intensely study for. He treats it like a 300 level class. Lectures are very good and engaging. He gives paper notes to fill out during lectures. He is very strict, only provides notes in class and refuses to give them to you out of class, NO DEVICES.
He's very strongly straightforward, but his lectures are extremely engaging, and class time goes by quickly. He genuinely wants students to succeed, even though he's a tough grader. He is very particular about wording, so knowing EXACT definitions is important. Participation helps a lot, and office hours are very useful. He will help you out a lot.
My family only knew him as “evil professor.” I will say that his test questions are certainly doable, but he grades with hatred. 4 tests including final, none cumulative. 5 homework assignments because he miscalculated points. I'd say take this class only if you have to. Certainly wasn't my worst class, but I would eat bricks before taking it again
