He's a really good teacher if you're willing to do the work and come ready to learn. He is hard and pushes your writing ability which is why I really enjoy his class. If you're looking for an easy A this isn't the teacher you want.

This is an excellent teacher. Through the course of the semester, he lets you rewrite your essays and is willing to meet with you out of class time. Hes a funny guy, and made me a better writer. Although he isnt super easy, if you work hard he will help you get that A.

One of my two favorite teachers! Baker is fun and you learn a lot of stuff that you'd never learn somewhere else. He knows his subject and is extremely knowledgeable. I loved going to this class. This guy is a genius. Every single day in class I laughed so hard. You get a couple essays, with the longest being 7-8 pages, but the criteria is your personal choice. If your going to be lazy then don't bother. For me, the end result was very rewarding, I learned so much more about writing from Baker.

Baker will try to scare you off but he is all talk. Class is really easy if you do your work. has 2 essays with re-writes. A 7-8page profile paper. Mid-term is an in-class essay on a movie he shows you. Final is on a book you read. He likes to really think deep into things. A great professor. He does his best to challenge and engage his students without losing sight of what he is there to do(ask him about UFO and No Cats Eye Ahead). Work with him and you will become a better writer. This class is hard work but it is well worth it.

Baker rocks! His class made me think out side the box and realize whats going on in the world. Class is interesting and there is never a dull moment! He integrates his life experiences (which are amazing and funny) into the material. Reading the material is necessary because he gives lots of quizes. He is a sexy guy!

Baker's class was always fun! He's a discussion-oriented guy, so we often just talked about the reading. Attendance was optional, but class was always full! Mid-term and Final- Identifying authors and stories as well as two in class essays (total). One 8-10 pg paper. Baker was definitely my favorite teacher at Moorpark. Wish I could take him again!

Great class, great readings, great conversation. Tests aren't as bad as everyone thinks they will be, just read and make note of the quotations he reads in class. Term paper is graded a bit hard but you have all semester to work on it.

Class was really fun and engaging. Gives everyone a chance to have their word spoken, just gotta raise your hand. He does kind of come off with a bit of a superior air but he doesn't shoot down your interpretations if you can defend them. Only midterm/final and a term paper. Only down side is the M13B class got moved to 8:30AM, terrible idea Baker!

There is no doubt that Jeff Baker is the best english professor at Moorpark College. Baker's grading is challenging, but rightly so. He does not water down the material and expects his students to read and write like actual college students. I wish I could take more of his classes.

Really helpful class because there's a lot of discussion in class over your interpretation for the readings. It's a useful class to help your thought process when it comes to papers. He does have a research paper, but gives you plenty of time to work on it. To get the most of this class, you NEED to at least talk once in awhile.

Really makes you work hard for your grade, but clearly lets you know what he wants prior to any assignments. A lot of criticial thinking he won't just give you the answer to things. There are always pop quizes so do all the reading on time-but they're easy. Let him know you're interested in the class.

Baker was a pretty boss teacher. He comes off as a hard ass but he softens up as the year goes on. His class was fairly difficult and he pushes students to do their best. He doesn't take any crap and his dark humour is always entertaining. I would take another class with him. Ask about UFOs, Cats eyes, and puppy eating.

The material he covers is a little difficult, but if you read before you go to class, he provides TONS of insight into every single reading, and even offers to go over papers with you before final submissions. Baker is by far the best professor I've had. There are a whole bunch of people that dropped because they felt that he and the class was too much to handle. Don't do it. The class is worth it. Work hard, take his corrections into account and you'll see the results in your grade. I wish he taught more subjects so I could take his class again.

Prof. Baker is the best professor i have ever taken!! His M13A class is a combination of the best of philosophy, english, history. He is hilarious and truly knows his subject area. Class and the book readings are mandatory if you want a good grade on the midterm/final. Only one major paper (pain in the butt) but thats pretty much it.

This class is difficult, and you will need to apply yourself. But, he's one of the best English professors I've had. He's intimidating the first couple days, but that just weeds out unmotivated students. Textbook used most days. Two 4-5 page papers, one 7-8 page, and an in-class midterm and final. If you take this class, you will learn to write.

Jeff Baker is the MAN. First few weeks were incredibly difficult, and he will get under your skin, but you have to stick with it. In a short 18 weeks he helped me become a better and more confident writer and allowed me to truly understand MLA. I'm glad we were able to connect with his many stories and love for music. Ask about Cat's Eyes and UFOs!

Baker's harsh for the first few weeks, thinks it weeds out lazy students. I suspect it just weeds out the students unwilling to be shouted at. He can teach you a good deal of critical thinking and will get you to write and reason for yourself. The logical fallacies make cameos in his own arguments. His book choices are good. Difficult but worth it.

Baker's class made me cry each night, knowing how hard it is. Despite the difficulty of the class, I believe that if you stuck with it, the outcome would've been great for you. Dr. Baker is the BEST teacher! I took him for Engl M13A&B. Go to his office hours and he will tell you what corrections you need to make. I loved this class, sometimes i even forgot i was taking an English class. Baker was my best teacher I've ever had, and I hate English class. Not only did he make the class interesting, but he also actually taught me something. Additionally my writing drastically improved throughout the semester because of the great feedback he gave on my essays.

I took Baker my very first semester of my very first year of college. I am now in my 4th year and still think about what I learned in his class. He's mean. He's hard. He's impatient. But he's a genius. He does't have time for people to not try. He believes in you if you believe in yourself. Easy A? Absolutely not. But you'll learn something.

Baker is a fun, insightful, and often hilarious professor. He may not be for everyone; he is loud, sarcastic, and foul-mouthed (all aspects of his personality that I enjoy). He encourages his students to lead discussion, form their own opinions, and defend those opinions. He also presents his own (usually brilliant) interpretations when needed.

I've taken Baker's class twice now and I have to say, I already miss his class! It was truly one of the most memorable that I've ever taken. Although he may seem like he could be a character from Breaking Bad, in actuality he is a really nice person and someone who truly cares about his students. I recommend him highly. Took Baker's class back around 2000 @ CSUN. Hands down one of most inspiring intellectual university experiences week in and out - a renaissance intellectual... kind of like one of Pynchon's hero characters ... was inspiration for getting a phd and becoming an academic... and behind the touch class and class charisma, a truly solid big hearted guy.

I'm moving on from Moorpark College soon, but Baker is one of the best and one of the most memorable professors I've ever had. He was not afraid to express his opinions and let the class do the same. His grading was clear and concise, and his feedback was phenomenal. I would love to have another class with him if I weren't leaving soon!

This class was great! There are 4 essays that make up your grade that increase in difficulty overtime. Baker really makes you work for your grade, but gives great feedback on how to improve. His demeanor can throw you off, but stick with it!! This is one of the best english classes I have ever take. He approves thesis before starting the essay.

This class seems very tough at the beginning there are 4 papers the first 2 papers you can rewrite. There are 2 written exams the midterm and the final. He is a tough grader but only because he wants you to become a better writer. There are many classes you dont need to go to he will lyk . If you stick it out until the end you will pass his class!

He's a tough grader because he wants to give good feedback and makes you a better writer. Take notes on his lectures (not that heavy) and apply it to the essays! 3 essays are 2-3 pages & 4th is 6-7 pages. High school taught me nothing, he actually taught me how to write a thesis, and a 5 paragraph format. Highly respected, should be a comedian!

I would take Baker every semester if I had the chance. Super kind and understanding, but don't take his class if you're sensitive, as he makes a lot of jokes about students. Readings and discussions were super interesting and in depth. It's a shame I didn't get him all semester, as we went online. Super lenient though with the switch. TAKE HIM!!

Baker is a hilarious professor but he doesn't do PowerPoint presentations to go over how to write a good paper considering that he is a super tough grader. He SUCKS at responding to emails. However, he does do conference meetings to go over your paper which is very helpful. Don't ever forget to UNDERLINE your thesis :) He also accepts late work.

Hes a great teacher! He loves interaction so make sure to participate. He wont tell you what hes looking for in a good essay so that everyone is not writing the same way; you really have to think for yourself. He gives you chances to rewrite and gives great feedback! Its hard but for your own good.

Professor Baker is a pretty chill guy. His method of teaching is different, he doesn't exactly tell you what hes looking for in his essays so everyone doesn't write the same thing... critical thinking is a must! He only gives 5 assignments that are all essays, as long as you put the time and work into the essays you should pass with at least a B.

Many can agree that we don't learn much from classes that are an easy A. Baker's English classes are not a breeze. Put in the work. There's only 5 assignments. Baker wants us to gain useful writing skills and succeed. He teaches critical thinking which is way more useful than just learning the structure of a paper. TAKE HIS CLASS MAN. NO REGRETS.

Honestly professor Baker is not an easy A class but he is such a great professor.. Baker is very funny and says some crazy things, it is a fun class. You have 4 papers you have to write for his class, but if you get a bad grade he will allow you to rewrite them. Go to his office hours if you are having trouble, this honestly saved me

Dr. Baker was super funny even on zoom university. Lots of papers with little instructions to make your imagination run wild. I really liked the concept of this class and it was nice to have helpful feedback. He offers one on one meetings for students to discuss essay topics and is super helpful. I would definitely take his class again.

I would take Dr. Baker every semester if I had the chance. English has always been an easy subject for me but Dr. Baker really pushes you to do your best. Dont be surprised if dont do well on your first essay, but he lets you rewrite them. Hes a super chill guy and really wants to see you succeed. Hes overall an amazing teacher.

Baker is a great teacher! I just finished my first semester of college and this man helped my writing so much. He is a tough teacher and goes about his coursework in an unorthodox way, but it's fun. He is also pretty entertaining and gives good feedback. If you want to really improve your writing skills pick Baker.

Baker is an amazing professor i highly recommend him. This class is much more of an imaginative writing class with little instruction for the prompt. His feedback truly helps your next papers. He's hilarious and he will always give it to you straight. Be ready to back your opinions/topics with examples in order to get an A.

Challenging but not too difficult. If you work hard you can get good grades. He is not a hand holder and wants you to think for yourself.

I took Baker for English M01A and 1B. After my first semester of college and being in his English class I didn't want any other professor for 1B, even if that met taking a 8am English course. Baker is hilarious and his classroom has a really great environment where everyone can share their idea's. He is a tough grader, but it does get easier.

I really enjoyed Baker's class! Be prepared to discuss as classes are centered around discussion of the material, but overall the environment is really welcoming and open. The only grades you will get are from participation along with three essays, but as long as you put effort into your papers he's a fair grader.

Great professor who clearly cares about his job. Be sure to read his essay prompts really carefully though. He explains concepts pretty well but you need to be ready to think a lot to arrive at the conclusions he wants you to. He gives great feedback and is willing to work with you on essays. Solid class overall and I would recommend.

Truly a fantastic professor. While the class is certainly no walk in the park, he is not a harsh grader; my class's median grade was 89.2%. Furthermore, he is incredibly entertaining and his passion for English and teaching is clear during every class and meeting. You WILL become a stronger writer taking this class. Also, gave extra cred for final.

Professor Baker is amazing. He's not a professor for those who just want credits, but for students genuinely passionate about learning, he is genuinely the perfect professor-- great lectures, confident speaker, fair grader, and helpful feedback. The grade will not be free, but it shouldn't be. And don't be intimidated-- he's very caring.

Grades based on a few works with a heavy workload, the work is cumulative, meaning that it becomes each time more difficult but what is thaught is based on what he previously taught. Understanding teacher, he is funny and explains the criteria good. Lets you know when presence is needed, and gives good feedback.

Baker is a great professor. He gives 1:1 feedback on how your work is going so far, and is detailed in his expectations for essays. He really cares about you truly learning writing and critical thinking skills, which some people might interpret as a “tough grader,” but overall he outlines what is expected of essays multiple times in lectures.

Professor Baker is one the best at Moorpark. He has 3 essays for the whole semester and that's pretty much it. Everything in between is just time preparing and drafting for these essays. He fs is a tough grader, but he genuinely wants to see you succeed and will always answer your questions. He's helped me understand English writing so much.

He assigns only three papers, and before you turn them in you sit down with him, and he reads over your draft and helps you. He is a harsh grader, but he will make you into a great writer.
