He's somewhat of a know-it-all who doesn't explain things very well at all. The work load is light, but incredibly difficult. If your answers aren't DEAD ON, your up to lose a lot of points. I thought philosophy was supposed to be objective, not what one guy thinks ancient philosophers were actually talking about.
Make sure everything you submit is from his P.O. Interesting class-can get confusing. Ask questions and participate. Always replies to emails in 24 hour time period. Uses blackboard!
He is so hard to understand and it's the most boring class i've ever taken, it's almost like he doesn't speak english. he talks all class every class and your grades depend on the TWO tests you will take.
Eh. Not an easy A thats for sure but not impossible..
If you like philosophy do not take this class. He spent the first couple weeks talking about his thermos that he brought to class, everything related to it in his mind. It is almost impossible to understand his unrelated ramblings and is a waste of money. The book was made for his class, it is thin and cheap and almost useless to his lesson plan
He was a very bad teacher and i would like my money back. The first few weeks were spent relating all his theories to his water bottle which he carried to class each day. The homework and tests were based on his uncomprehensible ramblings and not the book. This was a very frustrating class.
Not a fan of this teacher. The essays were nearly impossible to get a good grade on. The only way you did get a good grade is if you don't give your opinion, and think the same way he does. and his thinking is....different
This guy may be the smartest professor at Moraine even smarter than Wolf. The thing about his class is you actually have to pay attention, take notes, and spend time on the reading. If you do all of this you will get a good great and you will learn a lot. If you treat it like a blow off class you will fail.
I did not like the class the first few weeks because I didn't understand anything. As the semester went on it got easier because it all starts to relate to each theory he talks about. Not a bad teacher at all, you just HAVE TO pay attention in class in order to answer the homework questions right.
He is VERY smart and really knows what he is talking about. The class itself is very interesting. You HAVE to pay attention and come to class. Only bad thing I have to say is that he is an extremely hard grader for a 100 level philosophy class.
Very hard subject, but he always asks if you need clarification, very little homework, as long as you don't miss class and take notes you will do great
this guy is one of the big reasons why im a philosophy major. he gets the class involved and makes philosophy a discussion, not just some boring lecture. he does grade hard, but, if you understand the work you can get an A.
Fantastic class. He is open for debate on anything he teaches, and whatever wins out is what we're tested on. If you do the work, you will score well. If you think his opinion is wrong and don't say anything in lecture, you can't complain about an "opinion-based" test. That, or you're upset because you tried to debate and got steamrolled.
Mr. Christ is really a great teacher. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about that he teaching. The readings and theories can be very confusing, but he does a great job at explaining and breaking them down for the students to better understand. You have to work hard, participate, and come to class to get a good grade in the class.
The deciding factor/main reason I got into philosophy. Great guy, funny when you work with him, a bit nerdy (never a bad thing), very passionate, and EXTREMELY knowledgeable about damn near everything. Just go to class and ask questions. Took a 3 hour summer course with him last year. One of the best decisions I've ever made, education wise.
I adored his teaching methods. The glass was difficult, but he is always willing to answer questions and help. I absolutely adored this class even though it was a good amount of hard work.
Nice guy, VERY hard. I stressed all semester about this class. Everyone is saying he grades hard, but I got A's and B's on everything and i had NO idea what i was doing. Puts study guides with EVERY question for exams on blackboard, only reason i did so well. He is hard, but I learned a lot. Participation points are out of 70.
This teacher put my mind to the test. He truly has a passion for what he teaches and though the ideas may feel like his opinion he openly welcomes debate. Be prepared though, if you come in thinking you know everything you will get verbally spanked. This is not an easy A, but rather one where you take the experience with you.
this guy is an extremely hard grader. His lectures are sure to put you to sleep. He thinks he knows everything and most of the stuff he lectures on are all opinionated. Not impossible to pass there are just way better/easier PHI teachers out there. wouldn't recommend him
i really enjoyed him as a professor. He was very clear, and is very funny! HIs exams are just like what is on the study guide. Great teacher, take him.
Very helpful teacher if you pay attention in class. Also knows what he is talking about and is passionate about his job. Very good professor.
If you don't pay attention EVERY day in class, this is going to be a really difficult semester. If you DO pay attention in class then it will be the easiest A of your life. He is very knowledgeable about his job and is a pretty good help when you need to write papers and what not. His textbook is 20$ and you will use it and need to refer to it.
Very intelligent teacher and is great at his job. He encourages debate and part of the grade is class participation, so don't take this class if you are shy. Getting an A requires a ton of work, but what you learn in this class can be very helpful for a variety of other classes
He was the worst teacher I have ever had. All he did the whole class was lecture, mostly about various objects in the class. He would talk loud and think that because he talks louder and yells that his opinion is correct. He bashes students thoughts and opinions if they aren't the ones that he believes. Horrible teacher.
HORRIBLE ! DO NOT TAKE.
Worse teacher in the world. Not only did he make things more complicated, but he requires you to participate, and when you do, he puts you on the spot. His grading is ridiculous! I did more in this class then in my organic chem. Not only is the reading hard, but he makes HARDERRRR! DO NOT TAKE!!!!!!
This isn't an easy A, but good classes make you work and learn. If you're lost in his class, come in for help! He has a dry sense of humor and I think that he's easy on the eyes. His lessons made me want to learn more on the subject and to pursue that knowledge in my free time. Thank you Jeff Christ!
Idk why there's so many negative comments, he is one of my favorite instructors. The lectures are important, so be sure to write down everything he says, the class is mostly readings, lectures, & exams, but he is clean on what is needed to pass and he is fair. he explains the material so you can understand it & if you don't he is very approachable.
Great teacher! His class isn't the easiest but if you pay attention and show up to class u will be fine. He makes u read from the book for homework but I never did and I did fine. I had him for PHI 101 and we has about 3 5-pages to do. His test are also essay questions, BUT if u pay attention u will be FINE!! HE KNOWS HIS STUFF
Not extremely tough, definitely not easy. This class requires effort. Try not to fall asleep in class like me, pay attention and ask questions often, especially if you don't quite understand it the first time around, he's extremely willing to answer questions and work with you. Pretty good professor all around. Enjoyed his class.
Definitely one of my favorite teachers during my first semester in college. He's funny and his lectures make you think. Some of the concepts are very difficult but he explains everything very thoroughly and you can tell that he is very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. I would take him again for sure.
Awesome professor. Very understanding. Interesting lectures. Really nice and funny guy.
AMAZING professor. Very intelligent, his class is one of the hardest but best classes I have taken at MVCC. If you are looking for a blow off elective, this is definitely not the class for you.
Intense class.. but it is one of my favorites. He does a good job explaining the subjects, they can be difficult to understand sometimes. Participation is a big factor for your grade. Overall, his passion and enthusiasm for the subjects make the class pretty lively
Do not take his class. he grades you as if you were a true philosopher. my final grade was a 79.3 and finished with a C. takes anger out on students. would recommend to look for other classes but his.
Overall he was a good teacher. He's definitely a hard grader and makes you work for your grade. You have to attend class or else you'll get lost real quick. And be prepared to write...a lot. I actually learned in his class but it was a lot of work so if you're looking for an easy A he is not the teacher for you.
No extra credit. Doesn't know how to teach. Speaks in another language and expects everyone to know everything. Won't even make eye contact with students and will start five lessons in one day so that he can use up all the time. Every. Single minute of it. Keeps us after class most of the overAll the worst teacher I've ever had in my life.
Two tests. The final and midterm. Five questions short answers two pages atleast each. No notes. Grades really hard. Four question sets due throughout the entire semester harsh grader. Absolutely no extra credit. If you have a 89.99 you will get a B no questions asked. Lectures the entire class up until the very last second sometimes more
You will sit there the entire semester and just listen to him talk and take notes. He doesn't put them on black board and won't explain them to you or send them to you if you miss a day. Oh and you better have a lot to say or atleast make up questions you don't have because attendance and participation are a huge chunk of your grade. Combined.
THREE WORDS. DO NOT TAKE everything you hate in a professor/class combined in one.......
Christ was a good guy but his lectures are long and boring. voice was monotone and he seemed to get mad when we didn't understand. you have to read to understand what he is saying. it's a dense class and you have to try to understand fully to get good scores in tests. exams are 5 long essay questions. only other grade is participation and an essay.
He doesnt like helping his students. Lectures very long and boring and confusing and will expect you to understand everything with no questions. He will not allow you to leave class early or on time. takes atleast two minutes past time we leave only to yell at you for not understanding. the class makes no sense, and the mid term and final are essay
He will not reply to emails and does not connect with students on even a small level. He expects his lectures to be enough for you because he thinks they are perfect and informative when they are not. You will struggle to even get a C. Mid term and final are LONG IN DEPTH ESSAY QUESTIONS with NO NOTES or anything, HE GRADES HARD. Do not take.
He gave good and informative lectures and if you did the readings you should do fine on the exams. You do need to participate, but if you did the readings this should not be very hard to do given that other students probably didn't read. I learned a lot in from this class. I would probably take him again for ethics, if it fit my schedule.
I took Professor Christ about a year ago. He was a very tough Professor, but a great one! I truly learned a lot. He has a dry sense of humor, so don't be offended. You have to read! I repeat you HAVE to read. His handouts help as well. Participate and you will do great! Don't feel intimidated. He gives great feedback and expands off of your ?s.
Awful professor he should be ashamed of himself. You will fail. He sets it up that way. Took Chem and bio and philosophy and philosophy was the hardest because Jeff is the worst professor I have ever had. Worst grading system. He is also rude. Uninformative. I could go on and on
I really enjoyed his class. Although he lectures through the entire class, he gives detail to everything he's saying so you really grasp the concept. I struggle with ethics and he's giving me chances so that I can succeed in the class and pass. Over all great teacher
I do NOT recommend this teacher if you're just stepping into philosophy. He knows his stuff, but expects you to be on his level. If you aren't and you ask questions he can be very condescending. Also, he only offers only 5 grades total in the whole semester so, if you get a bad grade on a test, expect your overall grade to plummet.
This isn't the class you want to take. Tough grader, very few chances to bring your grade up if struggling. Grades like he teaches at Harvard. Would not recommended. Only allows 3 absences. Being late to class 3 times equals an absence. Tests hard very difficult!
This is by far the worst college professor I have ever taken. I have a engineering degree from another college and this was hands down the hardest class I have ever taken. He lectures from start to finish. He also talks to you like you are dumb if you ask a question. He also expects you to be a seasoned philosopher. DO NOT TAKE!!! DO NOT TAKE!!
A difficult class but if you read the readings and participate in class he will reward you. He goes in depth on the readings that are assigned so it helps to read the material before the class time so you have knowledge on what he is talking about.
Very much a tough and somewhat dry professor, however, you will leave his class with a deep and useful knowledge of philosophy, particularly ideas coming from Plato. If you're serious about learning philosophy, Christ (pronounced Chris-T) is your man
I am almost done with his class, he is very accessible outside of the classroom and over email and phone. His syllabus is clear, you have 3 tests and a paper. had to buy three books that you will need. nice and sometimes funny hard grader tests are not multiple choice, alot of reading, class was boring, confusing, hard to understand
I would lose all motivation to continue school had it not been for Professor Christ and his sincere interest in philosophy. A lot of other reviewers say he is rude and condescending, but that's only because they try to deny the TRUTHS revealed in the topics (it's his job to explain). Just because you say something is, doesn't mean it actually is.
Always very clear with what he wants for the papers. Gives great feedback! You know exactly what's going to be asked on the tests WAY in advanced. His lectures are great and always interesting. This class is only hard if you don't try!!
MY FAVORITE PROFESSOR! He is passionate, very knowledgeable and made it my favorite class. 3 exams, 2 short essays, study guides posted at beginning, so you always know what is going on. GREAT Lectures! Learned a lot. Read the passages, take notes, study, and you should do alright. but not a blow off class tho. Accessible at his office hours.
Very knowledgeable about the subject, but if you're not passionate about it the class will drag. He expects you to read the textbook every night to help you understand the material better. The only grades for the class are 3 tests, a paper, and participation. If you don't do well on one of them it is hard to get your grade back up.
He expects everybody to be a true philosopher and makes you look stupid when you ask a question. He grades on only a few things so if you do bad on one assignment, it messes up your whole grade. He pretty much sets you up to fail because the material is hard and he expects you to know ALL of it for tests which you have to do handwritten answers.
His class was by far one of my toughest classes that I have taken and I have a 3.8 GPA. His lectures take the whole period and are boring. He expects everyone to know the subject matter. You literally cannot miss a day of class because you will be taking heavy notes. Notes are very critical in studying for the test's and for the papers. Good luck!
Such a fantastic and passionate teacher. I would recommend taking his class if you are very interested in philosophy. Its probably not the hardest class Ill ever take, but it probably will be one of the harder in my academic career. You need to listen attentively and do the study guides or you will fail. Hes kinda hot in an academic way? Haha
Highly Highly not recommended! Do not take this professor because you will look sot dump and stupid in front of the classmates. He is terrible and tough grader and he does not respect the student. Also, he will not even host you in his office to talk for help or something else.... Not recommended! He thinks that he is at Harvard University!!!
I transferred from MVCC to a university and I can assure you his class is the closet you can get from MVCC to a real college level class. You write papers and do not expect silly Multiple choice questions. His class can help you build a good idea of what you will be doing at a university. Take if you are serious about studying.
Christ is literally amazing. He cares about students who care to learn. Come to class and take notes. He doesnt ask tricky questions on exams. His class is very organized, no surprises. I honestly dont know why hes teaching at a community college. Hes an asset to moraine. I wish there were more educators like him!
Professor Christ is a very nice person, but his class is really hard. I took an honor class and it was the hardest class I ever take. He gave us 4 essays, 2 exams, and one Philosophical dialogue. If you do bad on one of them, your grade is going down. Very tough grader. Take good notes and ask him during office hours for help before every essay.
Majority of classes are lectures, then you have a huge study guide for a test that has long answers you have to write out within that small class time. He is a tough grader and acts as if we are philosophers. If you like a challenge or have had a previous philosophy class then take him. But if you have no knowledge, do not take him.
He lectures the whole class and is very boring. He thinks we know everything so he talks to us as if we are philosophers but gets angry when we ask a question or dont understand something. He isnt teaching us. He's just telling us what he has learned.
If you like a teacher who is passionate about what he teaches, makes you work for it kind of type then he is your guy. His 101 course is not what you'd expect. Plus philosophy is not the easiest to understand. Yes he seems to get upset if you dont get it, but he never insults anyone. I loved his class. All class is lecture mainly, so lots of notes!
He expects you to read beforehand and to show up and participate in class. Basically he expects you to go to school, so if you can't handle that you probably aren't ready for college yet. He's eccentric and passionate about his job. He's willing to help before or after class and he's also straightforward of what he expects on papers and exams.
Never had I ever had a professor refuse to look over my grade until I emailed Jeff. I had told him politely that i would try to work towards a C for a transfer credit. HE gave me a 69.4 and refused to re grade. You lose your attention in 15-20 minutes. Does not joke or give interesting examples but the plainest possible.
looks like jesus but doesnt act like it. Does not teach well, does not relate to students, does not have lectures that can grab your attention.
Enjoyed this class!! You should take him!
I think he is a good teacher but the subject is to boring. One thing to note is he is scary to question/approach
Most boring Prof. I hv ever had. don't take him, I ended up dropping this class. Instead take World religions, PHI120.
Professor christ is your average instructor nothing out of the ordinary. He comes off somewhat cold via online communication as my class was online over summer. The class wasn't very difficult but he wasnt very understanding of some personal issues I was having. He is a pretty easy grader and tries to break down a complex subject into easier terms.
Do not take this professor if you are not a philosophy major. I took this class as an elective out of a passive interest in ethics and it was a horrible mistake. Hes a very harsh grader and when you dont agree completely with his viewpoint he will take points off, even if you worked really hard on your response. Feedback can be condescending also
Horrible do not take. He does not have clear grading criteria. Literally grades your midterm and final (both of which are hand written in class open essay to a few questions) with no rubric. He just grades based off what he thinks. If its anything opposing his ideas he will fail you. Hes not approachable. He grades based off attendance too. Bore
This was a solid class. Pretty basic stuff. Follow the syllabus and do your work and you will learn and get a good grade. I am not a genius but I did fine in this class.
Excellent explanations
Professor Christ is so knowledgeable and great at explaining a hard subject.
Class is lecture based but he makes it entertaining. Not a lot of HW just some reading before class usually less than 5 pages. Other homework is discussion posts and tests. I found it interesting but if you don't like abstract thinking your not gonna have a fun time.
Professor Christ is one of my favorite professors at Moraine. His lectures are great and help you a lot in understanding the material. The readings can be confusing at times, but he clears up that confusion at the next lecture. He also stays after class if you have questions or. If you reread and look at the lectures, you will pass the class.
I would highly recommend this class. The lectures are engaging and the course work is not overloading- it helps you learn to think critically and articulate your ideas. I would totally recommend this class! Grading is fair- the effort you put into the class will be reflected in your grade. You will get a lot out of this class.
My most entertaining class throughout my associate degree was this one with Professor Christ. Lectures are thorough, fun, and supplemented with good real life examples. Homework and tests are all online now and open book. He is also very approachable during and after class. Overall the best professor I have had so far. I highly recommend trying it
Pay attention in Prof. Christ's classes! Take good notes! Some of the readings can be hard, but his lectures make them very understandable. The class is worth taking, and really makes you think about what you consider to be good--and why.
Pretty smooth professor. This is my second time taking a course with him, and he uses the same setup for every class. I recommend taking your humanities online, because they are practically useless in the long run. Quizzes are short response, tests are copied off quizlet. Never once talked to this professor, though I'm sure he's a good guy.
christ is very chill yet his lectures & reading assignments can be a lot. class days consist of sitting in your desk, listening to him lecture the entire time. exams are 2 hours long and quizzes are 1 hour long. he will give a long feedback on what you got wrong. as a first year, i adapted pretty fast but some of the material it was hard to grasp.
Can be a little intimidating but honestly think it's just bc he feels awkward, good at explaining, graded only tests/quizzes, thoroughly explains readings, USE QUOTES on every graded item, all lecture, intellectual questions appreciated, TAKE NOTES, all in all a good guy
Does not matter what is your answer you will get a C. I do not recommend.
If you wanna pass his class, you gotta dedicate so much time to it. It's very difficult and he over explains stuff to the point where he confuses you. All of your grades are raw and subject to what he thinks, there are no extra credit opportunities
SUCH an interesting class, but you do have to work for your A. Lots of citing the textbook (which tbh was a great read) and hes a bit of a tough grader, but he is THOROUGH in why he grades you what he did. One assignment a week most weeks, and its either a DB or a quiz (which is a paragraph or 2). great class!
This class was super interesting if you need an elective I recommend this one. He is a tough grader, but he gives helpful feedback. There is not many assignments there's 2 exams and quizzes in between. If you skip class it'll be hard to catch up but he always posts overviews of the topic so look in the modules section thoroughly.
I found this professor to be an easy grader. He gives help feedback and is always willing to help if you do not understand an assignment.
I take this course online and this professor has made it very easy for me he is quick with grading the work is easy and he gives helpful feedback that allows you to learn from your mistakes to do better on the next assignment.
The most intelligent and best critical thinkers I know, were students of Christ. I have a friend, who became a physics major philosophy minor BECAUSE of Prof. Christ. His lectures, are phenomenal. If you want to LEARN, TAKE CHRIST! his lectures are amazing. he lays out everything in prefect DETAIL. If ur confused, u WERENT paying attention. Simple
I took Professor Christ over the summer, and the class was good. You will have to read a decent amount of text to complete discussion post and weekly quizzes on canvas that involve citing quotes from the textbook. All exams were on canvas so it was quite easy to get an A. Quite harsh when grading, gives great feedback. Overall, not a bad class.
I had Prof. Christ for world religions in 2024 and it was fully online. Every week the assignments were essentially to read about a religion and post to a discussion board with ~three paragraphs and respond to people (due Wednesdays) and then the main assignment was just to submit almost a paper long response to a similar question due that weekend
A good prof, but he's got some flaws. You absolutely cannot miss a class, or you'll fall far behind. You read from the textbook a lot and all tests/quizzes require citations from the textbook. He tends to overexplain things which often confused me. He's also a tough grader but provides lengthy feedback that genuinely helped! Take good notes!!!
He accused me of using AI on at least five assignments just because I got a page number wrong. I turned everything in on time and used all his resources like the PDFs, textbook, booklet, Google Slides, and videos. All the page numbers and quotes I used come straight from the materials he gave us. This class is stressful DON'T TAKE IT!
