DONT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! TESTS ARE IMPOSSIBLE!! ATTENDED EVERY CLASS AND SI SESSION AND STILL DID HORRIBLE ON THE TESTS ALONG WITH EVERYONE I KNOW...
Tests are made to trick you in every way possible.
Not an impossible to get an A, but be ready to do a lot of busy work. If you take him, have fun!
Excellent Professor, clear and fun
Took this class over the summer as a five week course and it was awful!
Not interesting at all. He does not teach very well--the majority of the people in the class did not understand him.
Mr. Cooperstein is an excellent professor, I went to all the classes and read over the text book and have made A's on the tests, the class is difficult, but no because of him, he did a good job teaching it and curved the tests and gave extra credit.
His class was awful. Didn't ever use power points, just wrote on white boards with terrible handwriting. For the love of God take someone besides him if possible.
best professor ever. he made it so interesting and related it back to things students already know.
Good professor, but nothing he lectured about was on the tests. Tests are nearly impossible. I went to class every day, attended every SI session, went to test reviews, took notes and read every single word in the book for each chapter, and nothing helped because I got all Ds on my tests.
Professor Cooperstein is nice, but his class is just difficult for some reason. I went to every class, all SI, read the book, and did all the online homework, and I am struggling to make an A in this class. I have made B's high C's on all of my tests. He is hard to follow in class because I cannot read his handwriting on the board half of the time.
LITERALLY AWFUL. You think he is teaching you useful material during lectures and then you take the tests and realize it's NOTHING LIKE HIS LECTURES... unless you have some kind of previous economics knowledge do not think twice about taking him, and even if you do have previous knowledge don't do this to yourself.
This class is tough. It really is. I took it online and struggled for my first time ever in a class. Pay attention to your reading and attend your SI sessions. It is crucial. I didn't really interact with him much seeing as I didn't actually attend a class. But he was GREAT about sending out reminders about homework, quizzes and tests!
Ok teacher but tests are impossible. Take someone else if at all possible..
Take someone else!! All tests are impossible made to trick you. I would study for days, read the book, attend all of the SIs and he would still grade really hard on any busy work. Its finals week and Im praying to come out with a C!
no. just no. I got out of the class with a B, but thats only because of bonus points from at tenting class. AWFUL
Cooperstein is a really nice guy but his teaching is below par. His lectures are confusing and his handwriting can be hard to read. The tests are also extremely difficult. You have to literally scour the book and memorize everything for the tests. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone.
Went to every class and SI session. Attendance is not mandatory but I highly suggest it because he gives out crazy amounts of extra credit. Tests are IMPOSSIBLE. I do all the homework and read the textbook and study days in advance - I still struggle to get C's on his tests. Nice guy but I definitely recommend another professor.
Worst teacher i have ever had! Lectures are not related to the tests one bit. He writes random words on the board so its impossible to take notes and doesn't teach with ppts. I studied and knew the material inside out but he tries to trick you on the tests with poorly worded questions and 2-3 answers that seem like their right. TAKE ANYONE ELSE!!
Just do not take it with this guy. I studied from the book and I could not get good grades. Test are super difficult and tricky. He just talk and talk never uses slides to explain concepts. He gives extra points but you gotta study more than hard to pass with a B
Tests are extremely difficult. Asks many questions over minor concepts. Tests are based solely from reading. Lectures are useless. However, he does give bonus for attendance. Worked very hard to earn a B.
horrible teacher, tests are over minor concepts so if you understand the big idea of the chapter, its not good enough you have to memorize the book to even come close to getting an A. Anyone is a better teacher than him. Take ANYONE else.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Yes, he knows what he is talking about but his tests are nothing like his lectures. His lectures are only a crutch to go along with the bookhomework. He tries to confuse you on purpose, and he even says in the beginning his average in the class is a low C. You will have to teach yourself for the tests because he doesn't.
Goes over broad topics and expects you to attend S.I. or learn graphsexamples outside of class through reading. Lectures are interesting -- he's been teaching this class for years and knows how to involve students if you are willing to participate. Tests are passable if you read the text. Lectures are optional.
Do not take him unless you are willing to study and read a lot. Yes, he knows what he is talking about but his tests are nothing like his lectures. He tries to confuse you on purpose, and he even says in the beginning his average in the class is a low C. You will have to teach yourself for the tests because he doesn't.
Do not take him unless you are willing to study and read a lot. Yes, he knows all about the subject but his tests are nothing like his lectures. He tries to confuse you with question wording, and he even states his average in the class is a low C. You will have to teach yourself for the tests because he doesn't bridge you.
Omg, he is literally the worst economics lecturer ever. Our class got tested over 21 chapters (the entire book) while other classes only got 11 chapters. This class was supposed to be easier than micro and it WASN'T. He lectures on things he doesn't test on so you HAVE to read the textbook in order to know what's going on
I only passed because of S.I. Horrible teacher, I got next to nothing out of his lectures and most of the test questions were set up to try and trick you rather than to see if you knew the material. Read the book and go to every S.I. if you don't want to fail.
DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY!!! His lectures have nothing to do with the tests, and the tests will defiantly have about 5-10 questions on it that are close to impossible to study for. If you get stuck with him, make sure you attend every SI session.
Nothing he goes over will be on the tests. Go to the SI or you will not pass. Class average was a 59 on the tests, however fear not. Never made over a 65 on the tests and still got a B in the class due to all the extra random points he gives at the end of the semester to make it not seem like his class struggled. READ the entire textbook.
Only covers about 10% of the material from the book.
Cooperstein is a great teacher. He is the kind of teacher that wants you to get more out of the class than just the material. He makes the lectures interesting by applying micro/macro to whatever is going on in current events. His class is hard though. You have to study and you have to attend class to pass. Even then his tests are hard.
Good guy, terrible teacher. ALL HE DOES IS WRITE WORDS ON THE BOARD AND THEN TALKS. His lectures are useless as far as the tests are concerned. Our class average for one of the tests, AFTER he put the curve in, was still a failing grade. You don't have to do extremely well on his tests to pass, but it is very difficult to get an A, or even B.
Do not take this guy! He is the worst teacher I've ever had! His lectures have no meaning because none of it is on the test. His tests are IMPOSSIBLE! The class average for the first test was an F. The SI's didn't help because they reviewed all the stuff he taught in class which will not help on the test. Pray for a low C or drop his class ASAP!
Do not take this professor! He is the worst professor I have ever had, he made a simple class (principles of economics) absolutely impossible!!! He is TERRIBLE. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT TAKE HIM.
DO NOT TAKE COOPERSTEIN. He does not teach to the test, does not email back, is NEVER in his office for his office hours, took a test and got a 6 point curve when only 8 people got B's and no one got an A and the average was still failing miserably.
Cooperstein does not make it easy for you. He does not provide slides, it is strictly lecture and you have to catch the notes. What he talks about in class is hardly on the tests so make sure you go to SI and read the book. Gives small quizzes at the end of every class but they total up to be extra credit at the end. Keep up with current events.
Terrible. Terrible professor. Terrible lectures. Avoid him at all costs. The SI's will teach you and you will have to teach yourself from the book. I only went to class for the bonus points. His lectures will teach you nothing. Take ANYONE but him or drop the class.
Awful professor. Absolutely atrocious. The SI's have to work overtime to try to keep us from failing, and he still has test averages of like 58. Avoid at all costs, or drop the class and take it another semester with a different professor. Lectures are pointless and irrelevant to the tests. I might lose my scholarship because of this class.
This is by far the hardest class I have ever taken. Jeff does not care whether his students pass or fail his course. The averages on the past several test have both been in the low D range with no curve and the only advice he gave was "those who were not satisfied with their grades should figure out what they are doing wrong."
lectures are fine but don't include all the information necessary for the tests, which he even tells the class. Reading the textbook along with his lectures helps a lot but the learnsmart homework is nothing like the test. a lot of on your own work/ notes is necessary to do well. the tests are pretty tricky but he gives some extra credit.
Worst teacher I have ever taken. I made below a C on every test. I don't know how I passed. He teaches as if you've had many economics classes before.
Honestly the hardest teacher that I've ever had. He makes things intentionally hard and uses a book that no one ever has heard of. Learned everything from SI and lectures barely made sense. Be ready to read and teach yourself and just know that getting an A in this class is impossible with this teacher.
Super scatterbrained which made it really hard to understand lesson.
DONT TAKE COOPERSTEIN!!! I CREATED THIS ACCOUNT just so i could tell people just how horrible he is. I am only one test in but even before this first test i was taken back by how poor his lectures are. I cant put in words just how bad he is at teaching. Class average was an F and he blamed us for why it was so low. Not to mention there was NO CURVE
I am now a sophomore who took this class last year. I can honestly say, this is by far the hardest class I have ever taken. His lectures generally have nothing to do with what will be on the test. I complained to the department head about how bad it was. The only test I passed was the final (I got a B). GO TO CLASS FOR ATTENDANCE POINTS
Honestly don't understand how Cooperstein has a job at this University. He doesn't follow any sort of curriculum, just blabs for an hour each class about current events. He also makes tests that include questions with no correct answer. He then holds zero accountability when questioned by students about low test scores. I urge you not to take him.
DO NOT TAKE COOPERSTEIN. The absolute worst professor I have ever taken. Does not teach the actual material on the tests just lectures about non-sense. Avoid him at all costs.
I am currently a sophomore and was taking Microeconomics as part of my pre-pre-bussiness core requirement. I usually find economics enjoying and pretty much straight forward, However with Cooperstein it is impossible. He just doesn't seem to care at all about the well-being of his students or their GPAs. Whatever you do, please do not take him.
The absolute most vague and distracted prof. I've ever had, he spends 10 minutes on lectures and 40 min. on sports. Tests do not follow along with the study guide he provides, and his blackboard page is cluttered, unhelpful and often time the grade does not reflect what you have earned in the class. As a person he would be ok, as a prof he is not.
Literally the worst professor I have ever had. He does not teach, he just posts things from the book and that is all. Does not provide a study guide and does not review for tests. He likes to chit chat about nothing and play stupid Econ games online. Not worth your time if you are looking to have a serious education. -1/0 WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!
His lectures are filled with off-topic tangents. His "current events" take up over half the class, but only make up 2 or 3 test questions. He KNOWS he goes off on tangents, so he "highly suggests" you do the reading. Read the book and do the excessive homework, it's the only way you'll pass.
Probably the worst professor I will ever experience in my entire college career. He cares more about his outside of class research than he does about the learning of his students in class. Be prepared to talk and listen to lectures that have NOTHING to do with your test. Attendance is required but it does not help. His notes are unorganized/sloppy.
If you can avoid this teacher, then do yourself a favor and take someone else. However, if you are have no other options and are forced to take this class then hopefully this helps you get an A. Go to every class, SI, and do all the homework. The tests mainly come from the book. So for the LOVE OF GOD TAKE MY ADVICE AND READ THE DAMN TEXTBOOK.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. Hes a horrible teacher and his lectures do nothing.
Get ready to read a lot! "You spent a lot of money on the textbook, so make sure you read all of it" was one of the first things he said. The class can be fun at times because it is very discussion based. However, the discussions are not over testable concepts. If you're not ready to be very independent in your studying for tests, avoid him.
This class was one of my hardest this semester and it shouldn't have been. Coopersteins' test were nothing like his lectures and the only reason I passed was because I went to class and did the "quizzes" at the end. I highly recommend taking a different professor.
I did not enjoy taking macroeconomics with Jeff Cooperstein. He spends way too much time talking about sports and current events than he does teaching you material you need to know for the course. While yes, learning current events are good, they don't help us succeed in the course. The book can teach concepts but the exams are incredibly difficult
As an intro class I expected it to be much easier than it was. This was one of the hardest classes I've ever taken! Hate the forced socialization. I'm a student that like to go to class, take my notes, and be done with it. It's constantly "talk to your neighbor." The lecture itself is fun, but only about 15 minutes is testable-READ!
I haven't learned anything about economics but at least I know the Chiefs are doing well.
This is an easy class. If you can commit to a little bit of reading, and/or are able to apply reasoning/logic to problems, the tests are quite manageable. Yes, the lecturer isn't great. Yes, you will be bored or frustrated a lot. However, it is easy, the current event discussions were helpful at learning to apply econ, and I did learn quite a bit.
DO NOT TAKE COOPERSTEIN! As you can obviously see by all the comments he is a horrific professor and not just bad at lecturing HE DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR GRADE I honestly think he'd rather people fail. He acts like basic Econ is a 4000 level class full of Economic majors. Seriously do what ever you can to avoid him!!
the only thing worse than his teaching is the sports teams he loves, he spends more time telling you about sports than the actual material
The only good thing about Cooperstein is that he gives extra credit every day, but other than that, it was the most miserable semester ever. I truly believe that he does not know what he is teaching and just expects us to know every single detail from the textbook. Be prepared to talk about a current event for 30 minutes every day.
He could not care less if you pass or fail, or whether or not you understand the material. Be prepared to talk about sports for at least half the class, and only about 15 minutes on actual testable material. 95% of the tests are over concepts in the book that were never mentioned in class. Tests are very graph heavy and the majority fail them
Cooperstein is a good person but a horrible teacher. He did not explain things well, the more he talked the less I understood. You will have to read through the textbook, front to back, many of the topics in the book are on the test but not discussed in class. The only way you will pass is if you get the extra credit by going to class every day.
I took class with him 2 years ago and am still furious that hes employed by the university. Dont do it.
Attendance quiz for extra credit everyday. In class lecture material is all near useless. Current events and group discussion are one of his main focuses. Reading the book in full is expected. Random current events and topics never discussed in class are on exams.
I am someone who studies a lot.I was genuinely appalled at how the class is taught and graded.I had to change my study methods for his class only, I still was never able to figure the sufficient information for the exams. Only like 5% of the information in class is in the the other 95% is in the book. I do not recommend it at all.
Cooperstein's lectures were some of the most boring moments of my life. He spends the first 10 minutes of class talking about current events and then the 2 questions about current events on his tests never came from the discussion. He is confusing when he talks and tends to ramble and uses general language with very little description about topics
Absolutely horrible. Do not take this class for the sake of your own good. First 20 minutes in class are spent talking about current events that have zero correlation to Econ. The material in class is insufficient so be prepared to read the book. The tests are borderline impossible considering the lectors are horrible. Good luck
One of the worst professors I've ever had. His lectures are very boring and hard to fully understand. His tests are even harder. I went to his office hours multiple times and the only advise he gave was to "change my study habits" rather than explain lessons further. He doesn't seem to care about his students, I would recommend not taking him.
I tried my best and I went to every class and basically he talks about what's in the book. He doesn't explain things well. The test are very hard even if you do study long. He makes you talk to other people and he will randomly call you out for you to answer a question. If you don't have to take this class, don't take it. It's not worth it at all.
Macroeconomics was the easiest class I've taken since coming to the U of A. His tests came straight from the textbook. If you went to class and paid some non-zero amount of attention, you got bonus points just for showing up. His tests were all multiple choice and were very common sense if you knew the definitions.
Basic Econ was one of the easiest classes I have taken at U of A. All that was required was to read the textbook and you passed the class and the tests. Most of the test questions are straight from the book and he makes that very clear. He also gives "quizzes" at the end of every class, worth bonus points. Read the book, and you will pass.
This guy teaches as if he doesnt care what his students grades are. He has no powerpoints and writes little to nothing on the whiteboard, Im still wondering why he even brings expo markers to class. He gets his tests from the McGraw hill textbook and they are extremely hard. I missed a B by only a few points and he did not have any sympathy.
If I could use profanity, I would. Lectures do not cover material that is on tests and are very arguable on answer choices. He is not open to discussion on grades. A very know-it-all professor.
Confused by this class. There were 3 tests and a final and I pretty much failed them all! The first unit I went to every class and paid attention and read the entire textbook and studied hard and I got a 60 on the test. The second unit i stopped going and didn't do anything and I got a 54. The content he teaches in class is not on the tests.
This is the worst professor I have ever had. He goes off on rants in class about economics while seemingly spending little to no time on the learning objects we should be covering. A good SI is the only thing that has helped me thus far.
Class consists of homework points, tests, and attendance for "extra credit" but doesn't count for much. This teacher absolutely does not have any guidelines for the way he lectures, writes random things on the board. If you miss one class, you can't get notes, not that going to class helps because he teaches nothing. SI is the only helpful thing.
I do not like talking negative about professors but I have to be honest, you can find a better professor. His syllabus was unclear and I felt I did not learn anything in the lectures. Stick to the book. Also the hw he gives takes an unreasonable amount of time for very little points. If you can find someone else to teach this class, DO IT.
I just took my first test in this class. All I have to say is that this professor does NOT teach the criteria required to pass the tests. I even read the book and used 19 pages of notes (open notes) and drew out every graph in the chapters I was tested on, only to be seen 3 or 4 times on the test. Safe to say there is NO way to pass.
Prof. Cooperstein has absolutely terrible reviews going all the way back to 2016. He has exactly 2 good reviews, both left on the same day, using similar language. He creates assignments with questions so incredibly vague that, in addition to teaching yourself 90% of the concepts, you have to be the Michael Jordan of guessing. Take anyone else.
Prof. Cooperstien has been the worst professor I've had my whole academic career by far. His lectures are hard to take notes off of, and the study material given barely relates to the test. Ex.) he gives us study guides from 2015 that are nothing like the test you actually take. TAKE A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR!
This prof literally admits to just doing teaching as a "side gig" cause hes really just a researcher, honestly awful, has no idea what hes talking about, test and lectures are two different things, nothing relates, literally any teacher is better than this guy.
Cooperstein has to be the worst professor I've taken at the UofA. He makes the class so much more difficult than it needs to be. Lectures are worthless and reading the book doesn't prepare you for the random questions on tests. Do not take his class.
I had to drop this class in the spring due to this Professor. When I went to re-enroll, he was the only option available. Just hope to pass this class because tests are nothing like the lectures. He does not explain well at all. Book and hw dont relate to test much at all. The practice tests he gives do not help. Do not take this class.
Professor Cooperstein's "Basic" Econ was most certainly the hardest class I've ever taken. His lectures really don't help you with the content on the exams. You have to read the chapters in the book very thoroughly if you want to pass. It is ALOT of content. The class is VERY test-heavy and the majority of my peers made D's on average. Don' take.
Complete waste of money. Do NOT take this class. It will make you contemplate dropping out and living on a farm. He is a horrible teacher who doesn't know how to correlate the lectures to the exam.
My absolute worst experience at this university thus far. This professor's "lectures" involve a current event topic that takes roughly 30-45 minutes to only have 1 question out of 50 covered on an exam. The rest of the time is him barely scratching the surface of difficult economic concepts. Don't take this class if you value your mental health.
Easily the worst professor I've ever had. Very very few things that he lectures about in class is on the tests. He's a very nice guy though but he just shouldn't be a teacher as his side job.
Please do not take this course. It is frustrating to me that Cooperstein is still teaching. He really is the worst. The highest grade in my class is 82 and the lowest is 47. Save yourself and do not take this course. This is the worst course I have taken since being in Arkansas.
This was by far the worst professor ever. Nothing that he taught in class or the homework given matched the things that he included on the tests. Then after over half of the class would fail the tests he would blame us for failing when its his content and his awful teaching style that caused us to struggle so hard.
Worst class I have ever taken. Professor has no empathy for any students who may be overloaded with his class, offers no help when needed, and basically ignores you the entire semester. Tests are awful, homework is easy but relates very little to the rest of his content. The notes you take don't help at all on tests. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
This professor sucks. His tests are impossible, and after finishing the semester I am still clueless as to where his questions come from.
He is nice, but he is a terrible teacher. He talks about current events for 50% of the class period, and then scribbles gibberish on the board and expects us to get good grades on the tests. Doesn't use technology hardly ever because it confuses him, and the blackboard is extremely unorganized.
Jeff is a nice guy, but he is a terrible teacher. He talks about current events for about half the class. Then he goes on to draw a bunch of graphs and terms on a whiteboard in a very cluttered way and expects us to understand what he's writing. and his exams well I don't know why I showed up because I don't know where those questions came from.
Nice guy, willing to meet with you after class, however he is possibly the worst professor Ive ever had. He is extremely knowledgeable in economics but can't teach it. Lectures are completely useless, just writes graphs and terms on the board. You need to do 90% of your work outside of class and do your own research. Gives a bunch of XC at the end.
Nice guy, but shouldn't be teaching. The course material isn't all that difficult but for some reason he just won't teach it directly. He does take a lot of class time discussing current events then gives an unorganized rant about the chapter for the day. His tests are full of material based questions but he only likes to teach the concepts.
Very kind. Exams are open note, attendance is optional, and he is very free for office hours. It is true that the exam is different than lecture and the textbook. It is very possible to do well in the course. This does requires self study and class attendance. He doesn't teach to the exam. He teaches how to think critically about economics.
If you happen to be reading this review, take it as a sign to drop this jokers class. I,have taken Exam 1 and I can already tell this class is hopeless. Do not let "open note" fool you, the test is impossible. It has nothing to do with his pointless lectures, and he gives tests from 2015 as study guides, as if that helps with studying. Total joke.
I don't recommend taking professor cooperstein at 8 AM, because you WILL fall asleep. He doesn't use slides or anything for his lectures he just draws diagrams and talks endlessly. He gives a lot of EC, which is needed because the exams don't actually relate to the lectures or homework. Good thing is you can get Bs on the exams and still have an A
jeff cooperstein doesn't provide you with any information that may be on the test. the tests are open note yet somehow you will never take good enough notes to pass because he lectures off the dome and has never once used a powerpoint or any sort of organization. good luck
This was supposed to be an intro econ course, but this guy made it feel like a 4000 course. If you want to make your life 1000x harder he is the prof for you. study guides in prep for the test are from 7 years ago, test questions are never ever mentioned in lecture (no point in going.) worst RMP rating ive ever seen, and he deserves it
Would you like to waste thousands of dollars? Cooperstein has got you covered. Tests are impossible. He always says things are "testable" in lecture but are never on there. Says there are 300 things in question bank, so have to study 300 diff. concepts (intro class btw) happy go lucky guy who i am genuinely convinced has schtzophrenia
He has amazing lectures and is very clear about his grading policies. His lectures make you think as opposed to memorizing definitions. It is not too difficult to earn an A in his class as he gives a ton of extra credit and all the assignments are super easy. The exams can be difficult, but they're not too bad if you study a few a days in advance.
He has a strict no technology policy so be prepared to take handwritten notes for his long lectures. The whole class is a lecture that honestly doesn't give much additional information. If you do the reading and use the powerpoints he posts you really don't need to go to class. Overall he's not bad it just feels pointless to go.
I took this class thinking it would be a snoozer and an easy A, but it wasn't that. There was a lot of homework and extra credit to where the test scores did not matter as much as other classes. But the tests were really hard. If you give decent attention to this class, you should be able to get an A. The lectures were very boring.
easily worst professor i've ever had. a waste of money take it at community college. someone send him a link to this page. lectures are pointless. goes through whole class saying material is nontestable and graphs with 0 explanation. drop while you can. too hard for non buisiness majors. bad experience. "the grade you get is the grade you deserve.
Pretty difficult class, but Cooperstein obviously knows what he's talking about. You need to actually apply critical thinking in his lectures, but once you do it's not that hard. His practice tests were taken almost exactly from the study guides, and they were all open note. If you're smart about this class it's not a difficult A.
Jeff gets a bad rap but that's only because people didn't go to his class or do the work. This class isn't test-heavy, and he offers a fair amount of extra credit. It's a point-based class, and in the end, he replaced our lowest test grade with our final as well as put the final in. I never made above an 80 on the tests and had a 96. Put in effort.
This was an intro class but he made it harder than what it should be, he goes through the topics every class which sometimes makes no sense. He also hand writes everything, even including the graphs which make it even harder to understand what is going on. Though he does give a lot of oppurtunity for extra credit throughout the course which is nice
He handwrites all of the notes on the white board. Bad handwriting. Does not let you take notes on your computer. He does not go over what will be on the tests. The tests are open note however his notes will not help you.
He's really difficult to study for as the exams are over graphs most of the time. However, he replaces your lowest test score with the final and the class is point based. So as long as you have above 700 points by the end you pass. No one passes the exams in my class but every passes still.
This class was not the hardest I've had but it DEFIENTELY was not the easiest. Attendance wasn't really mandatory but he would do clickers every now and then. His lectures was writing graphs that didn't make sense. Tests in class on lockdown and you will have absolutely no idea what to expect. He's nice guy but I really just wouldn't recommend him
Don't take him. His tests are hard, you can not read his handwriting on the whiteboard. He tests over current events that you talk about during class. He does not let you take notes on electronics. Just take a different professor. He is a nice guy just not a good teacher.
He's old school. Show up to class.
The bad reviews on here are just from brain dead business majors who get weeded out freshman year. The tests are just reworded problems from his study guide. You need 900 points to make an A, but he gives quite a bit more than 1000 points so it's pretty easy to get an A. Attendance is mandatory but tbh he gives enough bonus that you can just skip.
you will have to teach yourself, only information given to you is what he will write on the whiteboard.
He is very kind and cares about his students wellbeing, but he is extremely old school. He does not allow any technology in class at all and he will call you out if he spots a you on a device of any kind. He also is very big on class discussions. He offers enough bonus points that you can fail every exam and still make a B in his class.
Professor Cooperstein's class is challenging, but engaging if you put in the work. The lectures require critical thinking, but the practice tests and Unstuck ai prep help make the exams manageable. Attend class, use the textbook, and take advantage of extra credit for a solid grade.
Professor Cooperstein is legitimately one of the best teachers I've ever had in my academic career. Great person who genuinely cares about everyone in his class and their success as long as you're willing to put in the effort that you need to put in to reach your goal. I promise that every bad review comes from a person who didn't try in his class.
Took ECON 2013 for my marketing minor (which is now dropped) and found the class an easy A (im an outlier though). Came in his class wearing a "girls do everything better" hat and he calls me out in the middle of class and goes "isn't that sexist?" Says lowkey racist and sexist things during class and I'm not even progressive.
I took this class under the impression that this was an intro-level economics course. In no way shape or form does it feel like that. Lectures are filled with nothing essential and there are few resources to teach yourself with. Overall a poor teacher of the content.
Cooperstein's rep is wrong! generally nice prof, current events + class participation = extra credit, Tests can be tough, but are just like the pretests. Attendance isn't mandatory even though he does point solutions b/c lectures are in the txtbook. Light workload. Participation is key. Current events are easy extra credit. Don't fear him!"
People who rate Cooperstein bad are people who never went to class & never tried. Hes very old school, but means well! He's a guy who has a passion for economics and loves what he does. Tests can be challenging and lectures can feel long, but his class is much easier than people make it seem as assignments aren't due until the end of the semester
He is so sweet and grandpa vibes. If you participate and pay attention you will do fine. He loves economics and teaching.
Professor Cooperstein is a nice guy, personable, and usually willing to help his students, but I just really feel like the way he structures the class is not optimal, and the majority of the test questions are just different enough (than what he teaches you) to really confuse you. Great guy, not a great teacher.
I had technical issues during the exam and he made me go to the business building with a dislocated knee that he knew about and I got 20 minutes for the entire first exam while he yelled at me saying 1 minute left. Hope your ready for exam questions you never spoke about. He also won't tell you what the test class averages are. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS
The only issue I really have about Professor Cooperstein is he's very old school, no laptops (except on test days), no ipads, and no electronics period. He's not as bad as most people say, go to class take decent notes and study the textbook and you'll be fine. He's also really good at giving extra credit points, just go to class and speak up.
NO. Don't take his class. Please take any other professor
He goes through the lectures extremely fast. Only gives a few "practice questions" to study outside the lecture and teaching yourself from the textbook. I will fully understand the content and the lectures and still get questions on the exam I don't understand. He is very nice and understanding, however.
Please do NOT be fooled by positive ratings. This professor is beyond abysmal. I am an EE major, so many of my classes have been hard/weed-out classes. I say with confidence, this class has been the hardest class I have ever been set up to fail. I withdrew after the first exam when I realized his material was a joke and not at all like the exam.
I found his class very difficult. I actually don't mind him not allowing laptops because I prefer taking notes by hand, but despite taking copious notes, I got the worst exam score I've received in my life on the first test for this class. I was still able to get an A through participation and using the practice tests. Not great for an intro course
Class is very lecture heavy with most of grade being determined by the 3 exams and final. Tons of opportunities for extra credit to make up for it
Horrible. Do not take him if you value your sanity. No electronic lectures that aren't attendance graded yet he asks current event questions before every class and gives extra credit randomly. His tests are so hard and he gives no test material. He had us write and print out a paper that no other economics section had to do, just bad. He cares tho.
His class was not very engaging to me at all. His lectures are really hard to understand and he gives you a lot of homework. You have a lot of opportunities to get bonus points in the class though. I honestly would not recommend because I always ended up having to teach myself, also he allows NO ELECTRONICS. You could only take notes on paper.
