Dr. Dahn is a good professor, but I find him to be a jerk outside of class.
Dr. Dahn is a very exciting and hands on teacher.
Best part of the course was when he electricuted himself. Also, CAPA sucks.

Nice Guy, Capa is soo fun :) and Well He makes fun of SMU!! :)

He was a good prof and gave great in class experiments to help us understand the material better. His exams were extremely hard though.
AN EXTREMELY NICE GUY! VERY FUNNY, BUT DONT TALK TO MUCH. THE EXPERIMENTS ARE GREAT AND HE GOES THROUGH ALL THE EQUATIONS AT THE RIGHT PACE
His class was tough, but he was an amaizing instructor!
Hard course, great teacher... Kinda works out eh?
Is well prepared for class, very amusing and interesting, excellent prof. Some CAPA questions were bloody hard, but in general was fairly easy.
excellent

Great experiments, informative lectures. CAPA is a bit of a kick in the teeth but that's what WebCT is for.

Very good at telling the facts. Lots of in-class demonstrations. Examples that mean a lot. He is fun, but has a hard time reading the colors from the computer graphs, he's color-blind! The CAPA's (weekly assignments) are very challenging, but there's the message board and TA's for help.
his examples in class are great, and really make things clear to you that are hard to understand. But beware, if you go and talk to him outside of class he can be a bit of a jerk.
AVERAGE
Great lecturer, tests were hard though, made you think "outside the box", although if he says a question is gonna be on the exam, it's gonna be on the exam!!

ultimate... the man..
i really liked how he does a simple example for every lecture and he was pretty clear, also he is very funny, however his midterms and especially the exam was very hard, i really didn't like how the exam was only on the last 2-3 weeks of the term though
Great teacher. Second best physics teacher i've ever had. Clear teaching and awesome demos. Jeff >> Not Jeff

Amazing prof. Made all lectures intersting, and enjoyable to attend. Very helpful outside of class. By far the greatest prof I've had at DAL.
Good prof, gives good examples, explains well, and is very enthusiastic. His tests are kinda hard though. Didn't overly like him at first, but definitly missed him second term . . .
His lectures are definately more interesting than Hewitts, but this course is certainly NOT an easy course. (which I thought when I registered)
Good guy but honestly I didn't find him that helpful, the tests are difficult and the book was useless(actaully confused me even more) use the physics 1300 text book much better in my opinion. Don't take this course unless you have to because the next term with Hewitt is a living hell.
Nice decent man
Entertaining experiments. Very straight forward and easy to understand. Not as funny as he thinks he is.
he's wicked. his is my favorite class
doesn't appear to like girls unless they are top of the class. He's really buddy-buddy with the guys though. He seemed very energetic and nice in class, but when I approached him he was very difficult and shifty/nervous to speak with.
Jeff's classes were really interesting and he has a knack for engaging his students. Demonstrations were always helpful and entertaining. Seems like a really fun guy, but was very standoff-ish when I approached him after class one day. Tests are very challenging, but fair. Final exam very reasonable. All in all, great prof. Recommended.
Great Prof, enthusiastic, informative and thorough.
Great prof. Hard subject. He cares only if you care. He let us shoot things at him several times in class to demonstrate and illustrate concepts.
Great prof, awesome demonstrations, he makes class interesting. Does a really good job of keeping people interested in the subject matter.
Jeff is a prof who seems to really loves his work and teaching. He is always really well prepared for class and his lectures run really smoothly even with his wicked demos. Overall a funny, awesome guy who makes physics interesting!
Great prof. He made a point of us understanding the material, as opposed to just using a formula.
He's the big honcho (or at least one of them) of the Physics department. Knows his stuff and loves it. Very clear lectures but useless if you ask him for help 1-on-1. Does not give alot of partial points (unlike Hall) on tests and exams
Thank you Dr. Dahn you have been a huge help this year. Your efforts have increased my work ethic and also my general interest in physics. Your lectures are phenomenal, they demonstrate REAL life situations (radio lecture was too cool for school:)). I couldn?t have received a professor with more care for his students and their success.
This man doesn't make mistakes. Beecause of this he believes those who make mistakes should not get part marks on his midterms/final. Annoying though this may be, if you study hard and answer your CAPA you should be able to pass. Beware the final, if you are not ready it will consume you in under 30 minutes.
He sure knows his stuff, and his lectures were actually fun to go to.
Cockiest man on campus! However, he has the smarts and the teaching skills to back it. Loved his classes, but the one time I asked him a question outside of class, he managed to make me feel stupid for not getting a simple concept :( Unintentionally condescending would be a way to describe him, but very good at what he does.
Overall great Prof! He is very smart, has amazing accomplishments and is rich as hell; yet, he wears his t-shirts and jeans to every lecture and is relatively humble. Easy to understand with his diagrams and in-class experiments. A genuinely great guy. Mid terms/exams hard, but make up for it with assignments and labs. GOTTA LOVE THAT KERMIT VOICE!
Genuinely great prof. Excellent in-class demos and clear example problems. Very clear with what material would be covered on exams. Hard but very fair marker. Exams were fair and challenging. Always made himself available for helping students. Overall, best prof all year by far.
Excellent prof, made lecture interesting. made learning easy if you went to lecture.
Great prof; great demos, really clear and easy to understand, and a pretty good sense of humor to boot!
Excellent class! Favorite prof by far. He made every class interesting, and easy to listen to. Only problem was that I found the material VERY hard, and ended up dropping the class. However, Professor Dahn explains things very well, I just couldn't grasp some of these difficult physics concepts. Physics and I have gotten along well...
Great at explaining concepts. Wonderful in-class demos. Good sense of humour.
Dahn is by far the best prof I have this year. His in class demos and examples are great, and he is always willing to help me out if I have a question im stuck on.
Best prof I have ever had. Great sense of humor. Makes every lecture interesting. Seem to care about every student and want everyone to succeed.
Jesus can walk on water, but Jeff Dahn can swim on land.
He is extremely helpful but the CAPAS are quite different than what he teaches in the class.
he is a great prof, but exam is kind of diffcult
awesome guy, the work is quite challenging, be sure to read the book and go to extra help.
All I have to say is "He's AMAZING!"
This guy's lectures are so good that you will want to major in Physics.
Very hard class if physics isn't already your strong suit. Don't base your knowledge before tests on how well you do on the practice exams posted - they're often times 1000x easier than the real deal. The final exam is worth studying for, don't rely on examples on your cheat sheet because guaranteed you won't see them on the final.
Lectures make material seem easy, but homework CAPA are 1000% times harder. Can take 5+ hours to complete. You might be lucky to pass the class.
Dahn is a great prof! Tests are relatively hard, but its all stuff you learn in the lectures which are super fun to attend and have great demonstrations you're never bored and you're never confused (you'll notice no one asks questions).Capa assignments are tough but relevant so take time to get help and do ALL the questions, plus the marks add up.
Jeff is a really great teacher! He has created the most lithium ion battery patents in the world, so this guy is clearly not a prof for the money. He makes his classes hard to fail, if you put the work in through out the year. I failed both midterms and the final and still passed. Class demos were awesome, notes were clear! He is Awesome!!
Very effective teacher. I left lectures feeling like i had gained a lot of knowledge. His assignments really made you think and apply the concepts we had covered (great for further understanding). He was sometimes condescending and not the most helpful, but I guess that's allowed when you're the best.
Coming from someone who entered his physics class on the first day with no prior knowledge of physics (didn't take any physics classes in high school), he is the reason I passed the course. No, I didn't get the best mark; but he is better than my current 1290 prof. Midterms and exam were hard, but you will understand the material regardless.
The best prof that I ever had!! Fun demonstration in the lecture and it'll be helpful for your test if you finished all the CAPA, although the test is a little bit tough . If the TA can't help to answer your question, just show up in his office and he will help you with no hesitation!
Dahn is a good lecturer. However teaching the material he tends to be all over the place. He gives great demonstrations during class. The assignments are essential. They take a lot of time however they are worth doing. The test questions all come from the assignments. If you can do the assignments you will do well on the tests.
Gives awesome demonstration on concepts he teaches
His lectures are fantastic, and he is more than happy to help you with any problems you have. Tests are hard, which is why doing the CAPAs is crucial.
Lectures are good. In class demonstrations are helpful and suit the class material perfectly. Assignments are difficult but not impossible. Tests are not too difficult but they are frustrating because you learn a courses worth of material but only see a fourth or fifth of what you actually studied and learned in class. Never purchased textbook.
DAHN IS THE MAN!!!!! clearly the best prof dal has to offer,. his class is hard and CAPA assignments suck a big one... But it won't matter because it'll help you in the long run. And he knows how hard and crappy the assignments are, he thrives on the suffering of students do to his assignments. all in all great course, great prof and great guy!
Great prof!
The best prof forever!
Great professor
Dahn is fantastic. Does live experiments EVERY lecture and they're always relevant to the material. I wish he taught 1290. Got an A in the course, and learned a lot.
Alway does the marking wrong
Jeff Dahn is an amazing professor. His lectures are fascinating and there is always some type of incredible demonstration. He made me LOVE physics. However, this class is TOUGH. You need to be engaged from the beginning or you will not pass. Labs are mandatory to attend and if you do not attend lecture, you will fail! Tough, but AWESOME.
By far the best lecturer I have ever had, or ever will have. As someone who didn't take physics in high school, I was worried, however having Dr. Dahn for PHYC1190 was incredible. Engaging, incredibly knowledgeable & brilliant. Had sweet demonstrations almost every lecture. Tests were very difficult, however if you put your work in, you'll be fine.
Don't let Dahn's sometimes interesting demonstrations in lectures fool you into thinking he's a good prof. The material he covers in lectures is often never on exams and the assignment questions don't prepare you well enough for the tests and exam. The labs are also often tedious and boring.
Very bad prof. Doesnt respect students and always does the marking wrong. You will always find some grading mistakes in his exams. His exams are difficult and always contain mistakes. You have to bug him and repeatedly ask so that he upgrades your mark. Not open to questions.
Jeff Dahn does awesome demonstrations in lectures. I always look forward to his lectures.
His classes are very enjoyable and always interesting. He also gives you a lot of resource material to help you do well and is very encouraging. Would be an amazing class, but the homework is impossible, even when you know what you are doing and pay attention. Keep up with the homework even if it takes all your motivation to do it.
I wouldn't say this course is easy, and it sure is a lot of work, but it's certainly not impossible to do well in it, if you do all the CAPA homework and use available resources. Jeff is one of the best lecturers I've ever seen, and his demonstrations were great, especially the ping pong cannon.
One of the best profs of the first year. Kind, funny, and always ready with a cool demo of concepts. He teaches material well. The issue is with the course since it throws so much at you that you struggle to keep up. Do the assignments, pay attention, and you should do decent. Dahn is awesome!
Expect amazing demonstrations, making you excited to attend class and help you visualize what's happening. The class is tough (with C being the median letter grade), with lots of studying to do and homework to solve. However, the prof is accessible outside of class during his office hours, and there is a great team of TAs in the resource center.
This dude has a huge ego. Tests are tough. CAPAs are a grind.
This prog really made my Monday - Wednesday mornings enjoyable and fun. His demonstrations and will to teach is amazing and inspire you to study hard. As long as you understand the homework problems, you will pass the course with a decent mark
This man is 64 and still willing to do trapeze shows in lectures to prove physics topics being taught. Hes an amazing prof, his class is well structured and theres plenty of chances to get easy marks. Weekly assignments make for consistent learning, and labs that show "practical" use of lecture material. 10/10 would take this class again
