Did not want to take this class and class is actually a little harder than it appears. Make sure you pay attention, be prepared on speech days and PARTICIPATE! Time will fly in this class if you do. Take the time to meet with him duing his office hours if you need assitence; He's always eager to listen and help. Make sure you take his class!

As an art student, I never thought I would enjoy a public speaking class, but DeVincent made it easy. His positive and light-hearted energy made it so enjoyable to come to class, even an 8am, that I never let myself skip. His guidelines for assignments are very clear, & there are lots of opportunities for easy points. I would totally recommend him.

Takes attendance at start of class, if your not in your seat when the bell rings, your absent. He is a tough grader and gets frustrated if you don't practice or participate for class. He is a bit of a wise guy and cracks a lot of jokes. He also will help you so long as you go to him. He is always willing to help students. Practice your speeches!

A wonderfully interactive game-like class taught by a funny, spirited, Harry Potter Professor. He know everything about Potter and GoT! Smart, sometimes edgy, and tricks learning for people that would rather die than speak in public. Lots of ideas for all of my majors and minors then I ever thought about.

I actually hate that I finished this class. This class has been the best professional readiness class for me and my favorite 8AM ever. This class was the hardest thing that I've ever had to do in my life! But he makes it fun, and pushes, and pushes, that you rarely care that much! I did have a couple breakdowns (as I expected), but he helped me feel somewhat comfortable and was able to get me through my speeches. During your presentation, he may stop your speed and tell you what you improved and not improved, but can help you during office hours. Also there's a 3 aspect of speech: 1) Voice 2) Vibration 3) Commitment. Finally the purpose of a speech is to excite and impress.

I took COM 105 with him, and Mr. DeVincent is a fantastic professor who does an excellent job of keeping the class attentive and entertained while providing good help both in and out of class. There is a textbook, but I only read one chapter.

I have always felt secure in Devincent's class. He always has extra help sessions providing more than enough help. There's no way you can fail the class unless you bite your tongue-never speaking up. He's very mindful of others opinions and feelings and creates a comfortable class environment. Class is relatable to all careers. PARTICIPATION is KEY

Just left his final extra help of 100s he gives. JD is one of the best professors and teachers that I've ever met. He will do anything to get you involved and the best. He treats classes aimed to our majors for the professional industries that we will all be be working in. He's funny as F but runs a really disciplined squadron.

Amazing professor, he's my favorite so far. He makes the class so fun yet you end up learning so much. I'm a very shy public speaker, but Prof. DeVincent helped me face my fears and have confidence in how I express myself. The class is a blast, and most people hope it would last longer. Would definately recommend his class to anyone.

He's a really funny guy and he encourages everyone to participate and enjoy speaking. At first he gives some good feedbacks and instructions, but towards the end of the quarter, due to the limitation of time, you'll have to go to him in person or go to extra help sections in order to know what should be done in the speeches and his suggestions.

Devincent is my favorite professor. He coaches you for half the quarter as part of class, and then in extra help sessions as you begin to present without him. He has tons of extra help and office hours. Tremendous educator. Volcano energy.

I got sick on my way there from nerves. As I sat in the front row, he made us all relax with his personality. Then for some reason, I somehow volunteered to go first for example. He talked me through it, interjecting humor, never allowing my terror back. I DID IT! Class was life changing from the on. Met with him a lot and those EHs were great too.

Devincent is so fun. I'm personally terrified of speaking but somehow he makes it extremely easy to volunteer, and to not be worried about judgement from classmates. He's a bit condescending at times, but definitely pushes you to get over your fears, and SPEAK! I'm a first quarter freshman, so if youre worried about taking this early, dont be.

The best, most wonderfully particular, coach that I've ever had. He is an incredible teacher who doesn't believe in the "when you're in the real world" foolishness. He treats his work in his class AS the REAL WORLD now! Funny as hell, and down to Earth. Speak the speech and your ideas as much as possible. Participate. Jump in.

Jeff IS a great teacher, but I hate speech class no matter what. Until him, I also have major anxiety, so does he, and a learning disability, and he does everything at all times to work with you during every class. He teachers differently to 30 individuals as needed. If you never show up, your not going to get his focus like you need it. The BEST

My favorite professor and new mentor. He will work with anyone even if they are self-absorbed late always-loserettes and lazy. More than I would ever have patience for, he still makes them okay. New college students have no idea how good they have it with him. As a former professional military, business owner, he's top of the rank.

I don't think I could possibly love this man anymore, I had him as a freshman, and he helped me with all of my classes throughout up to now. And he still remembers my name and even my final topic. Every once in while you come across someone who should be doing exactly what they're doing, and for being a professor: no one else is better suited.

I had jeff devincent for COMM 105 this past Winter quarter at 8 am. Those who know me, know that I am NOT a morning person. So when I say that I couldn't wait to get to his class every morning says a lot! Every class he managed to get a solid laugh out of everyone in the room all while making me feel so much more confident every time i left.

I had Jeff DeVincent in the fall of 2016, he actually started teaching me during the hurricane evacuation. He kept in constant contact. Kept me and my mom calm and very informed. He showed even in that, that he was amazing caring. He was like that for rest of quarter, he never stopped helping me even when I was not into it. He the best for real.

Hes a 105% all in dream and a really nice guy, but it can be a lot of work. He brings up application to the professional workplace constantly. He takes the SCAD mission prep statement very seriously.

Youll work and get coaching until your exhausted, but its amazing. He never winds down, even when he,says hes sick, and he connects everything to jobs, pitching, other classes, majors, my art, and the work place. He worked and talked to me almost every day. So good! I went every time. UX / UI !

I tried 2 other others and it never worked for me. I could never get pass the speaking part. I always got sick, terrified, no matter how much I prepared. They didnt know how to help. Finally I got into Divincents class, he worked with me until I actually became good. Sometimes he drove me me so much he pushed and pushed but it was so good 4 ME .

This was put off until my senior year and was the most difficult thing I've ever had to do. But he was incredible. Somehow he got me to love this grind, and I thought I was going to die before I got there. But I'm in shock, because I learned to do so well with it and enjoy it.

Hes the greatest which sucks, because I already had them! I want him for everything.

Hard, but not really, he's just critical, and will make you do your best work. Fun, but really in charge, and expects professional respect and behavior. He demands for himself what he gives you: the very best.

He will be your FAVORITE person, let alone teacher. He is caring, passionate, connected to you and the industries of many. If you can make an outline with key words you are set. He teaches you to right that outline, become comfortable in front of a crowd, and even techniques for dealing with anxiety. Relatable and understanding. LOVED him.

Quite possibly the best thing about this class was the way in which DeVincent teaches. He made an 8 A.M. class worth waking up and being involved even when I wanted to stay in bed on my worst days. He is extremely understanding of all circumstances, and really made me confident in my speaking and presenting skills. He's the BEST professor!

Brilliant class and brilliant master professorrespectful, learns names, understands SCAD students and brings out in any of us. Even the good in the students who cant speak, cry, and leave the room can be made to do some alright quality work by the end of the semester. Really glad I for one got him.

I LOVE him. He's the sweetest person and gives so much extra credit, so it's honestly hard to fail unless you really don't care. I took his class online so I didn't get good public speaking practice for in person but he helped with public speaking virtually. He gave a lot of good feedback but it was important to participate in lecture. Loved though

I didn't know what to expect in Speaking of Ideas but I will definitely be using the things I learned in this class! DeVincent deeply cares about his students and he is such a fun personality! The only reason I give a 4/5 is because my class was often confused about things.. But that's Zoom learning for you! Definitely recommend!

Was my first prof at SCAD and i ABSOLUTELY loved him! He's so charismatic and sweet, really understanding. his feedback is always constructive and he really helped us build a community in class. Projects were always fun and he has a wonderful sense of humor, i genuinely looked forward to this class every day.

It is not hard to see why he currently has a 4.9 rating here. He is extremely engaging with his lectures and gives great feedback on work. He has a tough and strict exterior but he is also a very forgiving and nice guy. He is easy to sympathize with and his style of teaching helped me to remember a lot from his class.

I was super anxious to take a public speaking class but Professor DeVincent made it a blast. He's so funny and nice. Very encouraging and a real master of the material. He's big on class attendance and participation and gives a lot of reading/discussion assignments, but none of them are difficult. Gives amazing feedback on presentations. The best.

Very kind and willing to listen to his students. Uses theatrics to keep you engaged. Participation is a big part of grades and you have to turn on your camera. Sometimes he would accidentally tell you to turn something in through discussions instead of submissions, and because of his no late work policy, you have to be very careful with submission.

He is very helpful with the presentations you do and will offer easy to understand feedback in class as well as in his office hours. He knows public speaking is hard and only expects your personal best. He makes the class feel comfortable.

Mostly very good professor. I started to get slightly annoyed with him toward the end of the quarter, and his grading criteria/feedback was often vague but his class was enjoyable enough. The workload was very manageable but the syllabus was confusing and assignments seemed to come at random.

The professor is great. He is generous, and always willing to work with you, but wont let you get away with crap. He will except work if you have a good excuse, hes very flexible, and he loves SCAD students! Participate and make him happy!

Professor DeVincent is the best teacher to take for COMM. He is conscious of workload, not giving a huge amount, and he is always there to help his students improve. The large assignments are simple and straightforward. To get a good grade all you need to do is try your best and push yourself out of your comfort zone, you'll be rewarded.

It's hard to pick tags for DeVincent. His class is a variety of lectures and videos. He isn't a tough grader, but don't expect 100%. He kept saying I was doing very well but consistently gave me 90-92% without feedback to improve. I still got an A in the class but I was a little disappointed that I didn't know how to do better.

DeVincent's class is such a relief from the other studio classes that I was taking. I used to be terrified of public speaking but he makes the class environment so comfortable to speak in that it becomes easy. He is a sweet guy and really down to earth and relatable. He understand the difficulties of public speaking and is very understanding.

Professor DeVincent is genuinely so sweet and caring. He made sure to coach each student before we got into our real presentations and would do psychological tricks to distract us from anxiety. Cool guy, allows you to make friends on the first day. Little amount of work and a lot of in class presentations that are really fun and silly that you can do with anybody you want. He gives really good advice and shows you grade after your presentation. He is super kind and accommodating to everybody. I would recomend him to anybody.

Jeff DeVincent is one of my favorite professors I've had so far, he's super funny and lighthearted and makes the experience of presenting much less scary. The class consists of a lot of activities that students participate in, including a lot of games and improv techniques, a little like being in a theater class.
