Enjoyed the class and the professor. Good guy, very straight forward--no surprises or stress. Take him if you get a chance.
I took this professor for a half semester because his class was one of a few that was available to me when I registered. My intent to take his class as a space filler was changed to real interest. Just be a normal student, no coming to class late of not showing up. Work for your grade and all is well.
Great class! Loved to go! Tests were easy, notes could be used, slideshows were interesting. often funny and relate able. I would recommend this class to anyone, fans or not of history.
Hands down the best teacher at broward college. I hate history and i hate coming to school but i love Mr. D's class so much that i got up every friday morning at 8 o'clock and stay til 12 o'clock and it felt like i was there for a second and i wish the class was longer. he is very forgiving of attendance and late work. i learned so much!
I LOVE him! This class was so interesting and it was 6hrs on Sat. I thought I was going to fall asleep. I loved it! It was easy and he made it fun. He was down to earth and didn't stress much. Take him if your doing History!
Mr.D was amazing! He really grabbed your attention and made history interesting. He is down to earth and really cool. I would take him again and recommend him EVERYONE!
Professor Dockswell was awesome! He makes History interesting and has very easy and clear instructions on assignments. He also lets you use your notes for parts of exams. I would recommend him for certain!
Mmm...
Cool guy and knew his stuff. Work was substantial but if you study not a problem. Fun class and nice guy.
I took Mr. Dockswell for AMH 2010 during the summer semester. He is a really chill professor he lets you leave class early if you need to, you don't need to show up to class but if you want a good grade you should. Mr. Dockswell is very intelligent and caring towards his students, he class is EASY if you take notes and LISTEN. 5 stars!
Far and away the best college professor I've ever had. He is truly passionate about teaching and it shows. He keeps the class very interesting. You don't really need the textbook, but definitely take notes, he lets you use them on the test. Grade consists of 3 tests and a few other short assignments, very manageable. Highly recommended!!!
Great teacher. Extremely knowledgeable and able to keep class engaged and interested through a 4 hour class. I recommend this teacher to anyone needing to take anything he teaches.
one of the best teacher i have had.He is very passionate and he knows what he is talking about.
Professor Dockswell is a great teacher! He is fair and his lectures are interesting. In addition to being a great professor he is also a good looking guy with a great personality. I highly recommend this guy.
Professor Dockswell is the best, despite that the class is 4 hour long he make it really fun.he is very creative.I would suggest that you take him.
HE MAKES A VERY INTIMIDATING SUBJECT EASY TO SWALLOW BY RELATING IT TO OUR DAILY LIVES. WE NEED MORE PROFESSORS LIKE HIM
THE BEST PROFESSOR AT BC. First of all i was never interested in history and after this class i can honestly say i learned so much. Despite his 4 hour long class i dont think i got bored once. If you take notes when he says you will pass with flying colors. He is so passionate and amazing. If you fail this class you dont care my hats off to you.
tend to state facts that is impossible to find in the book or even online. Does this professor really know facts on history? Feels like he should do his research and stick with the facts in the text rather than state some false info
Awesome professor. I extremly dislike history, but this professor takes you in the times and presents it as present news. Very likable and easy to get into the actual lectures. STRONGLY recommend. GREAT teaching practices...also has swagger :)
I did not like the way he organized his test. Very picky when it came to writing essays. Not all us know history. He does inform you about history, alot!
Very excellent teacher! Makes history come alive.
Well taught class. I learned more than I thought I would.
He is seriously a great professor! Everything is on powerpoints and we even watch some movies. His assignments are very clear, and he always gives you enough notice to get it done right. The only bad thing was that he never answers his emails, even though he says he does. other than that you will love this class!
Excellent professor. His classes are engaging, interesting, and thought provoking. I love his teaching style, and you can tell he is very passionate about the subject.
He is freaking amazing. I never liked history but I looked forward to going to his class. I recommend any student to take this class. You won't regret it! I'm taking another class with him just because I enjoy the way he teaches so much.
His classes inspired and interested me so much that I decided to use my electives taking his other classes. If you would like to learn about our history from an un-biased and educated point of view, than take his class. Amazing educator and person! His classes should be mandatory because they are so educational! Thanks Mr.Dockswell!
cool professor, laid back understanding will teach you from a different point of view from history all you need to do is pay attention study notes complete h.w and your good to go
The absolute best teacher to have! He is understanding, kind, funny, and overall just awesome! I recommend every person to take him.
This professor changed my perspective about History completely. I used to hate going to any sort of History related class but that is not the case in Prof. Dockswell's class. I actually looked forward to his class and as long as you pay attention to his power points the tests are easy. He includes a lot of visuals which is a major plus. TAKE HIM!
Professor Dockswell surely knows how to keep his class entertained! You won't regret taking him, he's very fair when it comes to grading and he makes his lectures fun. Attendance is a must! If you miss one of his classes you sure as hell missed a lot of important material for your tests! Overall a great experience, highly recommended!
Professor Dockswell is amazing! He's very smart and funny! Two qualities that instantly captures your attention when you're in his class. His lectures are entertaining and won't make you fall asleep. Attend class because he goes over a lot of important material that will help you pass his tests with no problem. Just pay attention!
This professor is amazing! You won't regret taking him! Fair at grading and very spontaneous with his lectures. He cares about his students and how they perform in his class. You won't get lower than a B if you pay attention and try!
Didn't regret taking him!
AWESOME! Easy on the eyes too! Very helpful, down-to-earth, funny, and entertaining! You can't help but participate in lecture, and he really enjoys it! This made me enjoy it! I am majoring in Science Teaching Education & minor in history! Recommend highly!!
Amazing teacher! I would recommend to anyone, just make sure your essays are well written.
Not really a hard class, you just have to pay attention and do the given assignments. If you are not lazy and want to pass the class you should be alright.
His lectures are long and boring, you'll want to get up and leave. He doesn't teach. He reads off of the power points... which I can do from home. I didn't pay for a class for you to read to me. I love history, but he'll make you hate it. He isn't very helpful.
The best history professor at BC. Class was half online and half live. His lectures were very entertaining and informative. Recommend him to anyone.
Take him if you need this credit. American history can be very boring and he's aware of that. He does his best to keep it interesting plus he's funny. He really critiques your research papers . The tests are half vocabulary terms. Completely possible to get an A . Although, it is necessary to read the book, because he doesn't go over everything.
To start off with his lectures are actually interesting, everything that he discuses in class are actually on the exams. However his research papers are slightly long, yet he gives great feedback and extra credit is available. If you ask questions and seem interested you will receive 100% for participation, Oh and be on time for class.
his great TAKE HIM. His lectures are actually interesting straight forward assignments, research papers and exams. If I can pass anyone can. you will as happy you took him as a History professor.
Just do it, don't doubt it! He's a funny dude you won't be bored with his lectures, he's passionate about what he does yet doesn't bore you with the material.
Professor Dockswell is one of the best teachers at Broward College. He makes all of his History classes fun, interesting and relevant to his students. You need to read the book and his slides shows in order to get a good grade in his class but I would totally take his class again.
Professor Dockswell is AMAZING! He was one of the best history teachers that I have ever had. He's super nice, and he's a fair grader. He makes his lecturesclass very interesting and keeps you engaged. I learned a lot in his class! I wish that he taught every history class I have to take! His 8 week blended class wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be
Kept me interested throughout the class. Very good feedback on assignments and papers. Tests are tough. Attendance mandatory! But he made this class kind of fun... he gets very into each topic and knows a lot... loved him.
Great lectures, had him for a blended online and offline course. Very personable and fair. Tests are easy as long as you show up to class and do well on the online quizzes. There are discussion questions online you must do, but they are easy and shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes. He doesn't teach directly from the book. Would take again.
7 online quizzes, 2 exams, 2 research papers. Interesting lectures that connect history to today's society, but are lengthy. I haven't touched the book once and I have an A but most students need book. Take him, he's a very good teacher. Glad to have a class with him.
The class is very interesting and engaging, but he gives a lot of work and its so hard to take notes. He has his own power points but they are all pictures and graphs. I like being in the class, but homework and studying is almost impossible because you have no notes. I would recommend taking Billera, she is more boring but better notes.
Amazing professor I would definitely recommend. Very knowledgable, enthusiastic, and helpful with any questions you might have. Not too much work. He is really good at relating history to the students and he will keep you engaged in the lesson. Teaches off PowerPoints and the 2 tests closely correlate to the topics he focuses on in class.
He gives amazing lectures so you don't have to read. He gives online quizzes and the answers are all online on quizlet sets. His midterm and final exams are the questions from the quizzes plus some vocabulary matching. He assigns two research papers and grades them harshly so do well on them! I suggest a study-buddy for quizzes (split up the Q's)!
Though heard to be an easy teacher, alot of the learning that occurs in his class is on your own. Yes, he gives lectures that definitely help you learn, however, the lectures are very specific and dosent include a wide variety of topics. make sure to study ALL powerpoints and vocab and study the online quizzes!
Although I do like him as person, I don't like the way he teaches. He's great with lectures, but they won't help a lot with the quizzes or tests. You have to do a lot of reading to pass the tests and quizzes and even still it can be hard to get an A. If you don't care about getting an A, just passing then he's good because he has the personality
I loved him. Class was not hard. His lectures were interesting. After the first day, I looked forward to them all. I used to hate history and had trouble getting it. But Prof. Dockswell made history fun plus helped people like me understand information. I actually felt confident at history!!
UPDATE on 2/15/16 REVIEW: I made it seem like it was difficult to get an A, it definitely isn't. The class has its easiness and its toughness. You do have to work for the A but he gives you a lot of great opportunities to get an A and he's very lenient. Again, he has a GREAT personality. WRITE DOWN ANSWERS TO QUIZZES AND STUDY VOCAB.
This class wasn't half bad, I thought it would be really boring but I was wrong. I did enjoy his lectures and especially the movie at the end. Expect to read a lot out of your textbook if you want to receive a good grade in the class.
Dockswell is the best professor i have ever had. His lectures are incredibly interesting and engaging. There are 2 research papers, a midterm, and a final that make up most of the grade. other than that there are ten quizzes which are very helpful for exams and easy to do. overall the class is fairly easy if you just put in effort.
He's one of the best professors in Broward College. You need to show up to class to understand everything! His lectures are great!!!! 2 exams, 2 research papers, 4 discussions and two movie reviews. I took the 8 week class. I can't wait to have another class with him. TAKE HIM!
Falls off topic often. Many things during lecture are not on the actual test. Tough grader on term papers but helpful.
Prof. Dockswell is the most amazing teacher. Not a hard class at all. 2 research papers and 2 exams plus online discussions that are so easy and helped my grade. He also makes his classes fun.
He is great when it comes to lectures, and he never assigns homework. There are a few film questions and online unit quizes on D2l. There are two research papers which are pretty easy. And the only tests are the mid-term exam and the final exam. To study for both use quizlet and the online unit quizes as a guideline.
Mr. Dockswell was a really great teacher and one the very few good ones at central campus. He teaches from PowerPoints and goes over everything gives answers to quizzes while you take it literally! He gives a midterm and final review PowerPoint and do the book vocabulary quiz make sure to have proper citations in your research papers nd go to class
Great guy! His class was fun and his lectures were hilarious. Treats students fairly and is very honest and caring. Would definitely take again!
Talks a lot but it's all relate to the lesson, whether you know it or not, so pay attention.
I took Professor Dockswell's 6-week summer class. Wish it was longer. He is a fantastic teacher and his lectures are really interesting. You can tell he really loves History and it makes the class fun and easy. There were a few quizzes that were open book after every couple of chapters, "2" essays, a mid-term, and a final. Take him!!!!!!!!
I hate history but Professor Dockswell makes the subject somewhat bearable. Yes, you have to put in some work to get the grade that you want, but this is College and is not hard. If you pay attention to the lectures (or just look at the PowerPoints he post on D2L) you will be fine. 4 discussions, midterm, final, 4 quizzes, 2 research papers
He is a great teacher. He goes on tangents but it's very entertaining and he always relates it back to the lesson. The test are very specific, however, he gives you most of the answers and makes history fun. I never read the textbook and he's just a funny guy.
He gets off topic but makes history interesting in the way he gives his lectures. There is a combination of power points, pictures, and videos on the material he teaches. You don't need the book since it's all on his power points, but it does help. There is a research paper, but he will help you get an A on it if you let him review it before hand.
He's a great teacher. He has the tendency to get off topic, but he makes history interesting to learn. A big portion of your grade is the research paper, and it will make or break your grade. If you put some time into his class, you'll do fine.
My favorite professor. I took him for two semesters and finished with As in both. You have to work hard for your grade, but his class is so enjoyable and worth it. His quizzes/exams are pretty hefty, but quizzes are open notes so thats a big plus. He is a fair grader and has a lenient policy for submitting assignments/making up tests late. 10/10!
Honestly, Dockswell is literally a blessing in disguise. He genuinely cares about history and wants to see you do well, but at the same time he won't baby you. He also tries to tailor the class to you learning which can sometimes get off topic but it's worth it. You also have to read the book! He'll sometimes test on stuff we never talked about.
This professor is incredible. Super engaging lectures, hilarious, and truly cares about his students. Book isnt necessary. Pay attention to his lectures and you'll be fine. The only thing that was slightly frustrating was his final. He gave us a list of vocab that would be on the test. Easily 10 of the vocab words were not from the list at all.
Made learning history very entertaining and the classes always flew by. You're graded on discussions, quizzes, and tests. He's a great teacher. Attendance isn't mandatory but I always went because he made going to class interesting. All the quiz answers are on quizlett.
Dockswell is a really good person; however, he makes the class harder than it has to be. In order to pass his class, you have to either be a really good guesser or read the book like it's your job. His lectures are useless and he spends class time on content that won't appear on the quizzes or tests. Want an easy A? Choose someone else.
Hes passionate & makes history interesting/fun, but he tends to go off topic in his lectures. If you prefer someone who is straight to the point & organized with their lectures/PowerPoints, I suggest you take another prof. However, he does give good feedback on your papers before theyre due and he offers tons of extra credit. Decide for yourself.
Dockswell is the best professor. Hes so easy to get an A with and really good at teaching in the classroom. There are 4 quizzes and 4 short writing assignments that I did well on without reading the textbook. The notes in class are enough to understand. Only one research paper thats about 4 pages long.
His test are real test. You wont get simple definitions but if you read the book and listen in class you can surely pass with a good grade. There is writing involved in this course but he gives good feed back on it so you do well. His class is engaging and hes super laid back. I loved this class! work syllabus isnt strict and he allows make up
He gives amazing feedback and gives assignments that teach to you think critically. He also gives amazing and lectures and gives hints on what will be on the quizzes. Although reading the textbook isn't mandatory, sometimes it helps to read the chapter before the quizzes as a refresher.
One of the best profs I've ever had. Makes the lectures so interesting and funny, really knows the subject, and often we don't realize class is over because we're so absorbed in what he's saying. The class includes a lot of writing and the tests can sometimes be challenging but his personality is worth it.
He is very enthusiastic and you can tell he enjoys teaching and what he does for a living but personally his teaching method just wasn't for me. The information just flows out of his mouth, he doesn't follow his book or PowerPoint's but expect the test questions to be right out of the book. Despite it all, i passed. I just had to push myself.
I just took the test and it was on exactly what Dockswell said it would be. 3 chapters from our book and class notes made available by him from Powerpoints. There were multiple choice and vocab questions. No surprises and his lectures paid off. Take him. Good professor
Lectures are great. Very passionate and funny.
Prof. Dockswell is a good professor, but his class isn't a walk in the park. He's flexible with late work at 2 points per day, but he's a slow grader. Provides review for each of the 4 exams, but they won't help much unless you read the power points over and over again. The writing assignments are what will help. 2 research papers each 20% of grade
Amazing in terms of how he is as a person. Very passionate about history and truly knows his stuff, complete with lively lectures. However, extremely slow grader, multiple writing assignments, and tests are very hard IMO requiring obscene levels of remembering details w many trick questions. Great guy, but his class is a ton of work.
all i have to say is TAKE HIM YOU WONT REGRET IT!!!
Professor Dockswell is very passionate about his class. His lectures are always beneficial because it will most likely be in the PowerPoints, Online/In-Class Quizzes, and Discussions since it is a blended class. He does at times get off topic but it makes the class fun and enjoyable. Just put in the effort and truly pay attention aka study.
Professor Dockswell is very passionate about history and also helping us better ourselves overall. You can tell he doesn't just want to get the semester over with but wants for us to do better and apply the things he teaches to other classes.
Going to his class is better than going to the movies. It is almost as if he practices his lectures on video to review for better performance. Just when you feel like he is going off topic, he finds a way to tie everything all together. Also, this professor takes extensive time trying to help his students.
Professor Dockswell is the best professor I've had at BC. He makes every class so interesting you don't even mind being there. The tests are easy as long as you go over the power points and vocab. Highly recommend. He gives you the option to get the textbook but I never used it.
AMAZING Lectures, never a dull moment in his class. Homework isn't horrible, just time consuming. Lots of HW though. Not a stickler with attendance. If you're good at writing it will save your grade. Can be a strict grader. All HW is writing based. You NEED to study for the quizzes. Book is necessary Not a good fit for my learning style.
Cool guy but lot of work. Don't take him if not prepared to write, the majority of your grade is based off essays or free response. Heavy textbook use. Pay attention to lectures and powerpoints. Easier As can be found elsewhere. Great for a history major tho
Prof. Dockswell was actually one of the easiest professors I ever had. 2 exams mostly based on his powerpoints and some of textbook. Paying attention in class was easy because he's so funny and makes good points about what's on exams in between funny things he says. Only 1 research paper and a few short writing assignments. VERY EASY
Just finished the 8 week class. Loved his willingness to help with work and he gave extra good hints on questions before final exam. Not hard if you can keep going to class.
Alright, not worst the professor ever. Makes history entertaining if that's your jam. But. . lots of work and he can take a while to grade. Personally, I had to work to get an A. The tests were not my friend. They very vaguely match up to review given. Read the book. Again, not bad, but if you're non history major, may want to explore other profs.
My favorite class last semester. Loved the lectures and dont really even like history. Dockswell made it good though. Notes come mostly from powerpoint and some videos for exams.
Amusing lectures but much easier options are available if you aren't a history major. Lots of writing and reading the book is needed for tests.
This teacher is beyond amazing! He will make you work for your grade, but not too much. His lectures are incredibly interesting, and he has an amicable personality. I hated history before his class, and now I LOVE IT! This guy is always willing to help his students and is really passionate about his job. TAKE THIS GUY IMMEDIATELY!
This professor was very clear with his assignments and what I needed to do. He went over my work with me if I brought it early and helped me raise my grade. Lectures were enjoyable. He asks a lot of questions. Sometimes shows videos.
Have to read the book to pass tests. Lectures r great but dont match up amazingly to work. Takes a long time to grade but teaching style is chill
First time i took american history... his class excited me to to another! i cant wait!
He is a great teacher, who actually cares about what he teaches, and makes history a fun subject.
I honestly loved this class. I hated history in high school, but I actually learned so much in his class. He's a cool teacher and he doesn't care if you go to class, but going to class will make the tests a lot easier. He does a great job with his lectures and keeps them interesting.
Very good teacher!!! Take him!!!
One of my most enjoyable profs this semester. Great lectures, always willing to help, and is an easy grader if you're halfway decent at writing and follow his instructions. He doesn't give that many assignments, but the assignments given will take a decent amount of time. A solid choice for history majors.
Because of Covid-19 our class only got to meet in person once, but he's chill, down to earth and really funny. The transition to online wasn't difficult, but there were a lot of assignments (but his grading scale is 10/10 he gives you plenty of time to make up work). I would definitely recommend taking his class.
Prof. Dockswell is one of the best professors I've taken. He makes his classes very enjoyable and interesting. You definitely learn a lot. Tests are cake if you pay attention in class. He gives you research papers and other short assignments, but you have the whole semester to work on them at your own pace. I totally recommend taking his class!
I took him for AMH2010 and AMH2020. Best professor I've had. You learn much more than just history; he helps develop writing and critical thinking skills. Very approachable during office hours. He's very open to discussion during lectures. If you study for his exams, read the book, and stay on top of assignments, it's an easy A.
he is really chill. If you're not strong with history take him. he does have a few discussion posts but they're not that hard only 2 paragraphs. and he isn't strict on them just cite your sources. he has powerpoints and his exams are based on those.
Take him especially if you're a College Academy student, he is personable like highschool teachers. Easy class and you will learn something. Lectures are chill and using your resources on tests is encouraged.
Great professor I highly recommend.
He's really passionate & helps you stay interested during his lectures. He's a chill grader and as long as you put in a decent amount of effort, you'll easily get an A. His quizzes & tests require you to know specifics, so be sure to pay attention during class & when reading the book. Overall, one of the best teachers I've ever had.
easy class however he does Not grade the last two assignments hence why i passed with a B when i could've got an A
You will always be busy in this class. If youre not taking a test then youre preparing for it! If you work full-time this class will challenge you. If you have good tytime management it truly is straightforward as far as the syllabus goes. The Powerpoints are a good refresher too. He is easygoing and responds to emails.
Straightforward class with somewhat of a workload to be on top of. Good lectures that match with the exams.
Didnt pay us real money to do our work
Great professor! He doesnt let you do over any of the discussion assignments. He gives extra credit. I passed with a B, study the PowerPoints. Book is needed, for a better understanding. Quizzes for every 4 chapters. Midterm and final are 100 questions. Hes really good at keeping you engaged in his lecture in class.
He is a great teacher and is very interesting to listen to. There are only a few assignments and he is a hard grader. The exams are very difficult. If you don't go to class you will have a hard time passing.
Even though you don't necessarily need to attend lectures, Prof. Dockswell makes them really entertaining. I loved this class!
Dockswell is a great professor and makes his lectures enjoyable. I enjoy going to his class even though it isn’t required. However, everything he goes over in class is on the exams. There are 3 exams total with 100 questions on each (Definitely have to study). He doesn’t give many other assignments so make sure you do well on the ones he does!!
As long as you study the PowerPoints and attend his lectures, you will be fine.
Professor Dockswell is an outstanding professor. He does not teach you just history. He teaches you how to think and apply history to our common day and age (what really matters). All his lectures have some sort of reference to modern history today, making the class much more interesting and useful.
Professor Dockswell is absolutely astounding. Dockswell's class was one I genuinely looked forward to attending. He keeps it real and teaches unbiased history which is engaging and interactive. He is also outright hilarious and cares deeply about his students. Just know a semester won't have more than 10-12 assignments, so don't slack off.
Professor Dockswell is absolutely astounding. Dockswell's class was one I genuinely looked forward to attending. He keeps it real and teaches unbiased history which is engaging and interactive. He is hilarious and cares about students. A semester won't have more than 10-12 assignments, so don't slack off. AMH2020 was slightly more difficult though.
OH MY GOD words cannot describe how much I love this guy. I hate history but he opened my eyes, truly. I literally looked forward to going to his class. Truly a professor you will never forget.
Not gonna lie, the lectures were disgustingly boring; but, he is funny and the class was easy so I would def recommend
Dr. Dockswell is my favorite teacher. He knows exactly how to explain the material he teaches, and makes it super interesting for everyone. He gives us extra credit on tests and simply for being active members of the lecture. His tests are very detailed but he prepares you perfectly! The best BC professor 10/10
Very funny teacher who has fair grading criteria. Gives good feedback that even helps me in my other classes.
Took his 6-week summer course (AMH2020) and full semester class (AMH2010). Prefer the fast paces one, not difficult at all. Just pay attention and take notes. At least glance over the text book too and you'll get an A. Really cares about the subject and is quite amusing. Encourages participation. If you get lower than an A, you put in no effort.
I took this class having no beginning knowledge in American History but I came to class and just listen to what Professor Dockswell says and I learned. I really recommend taking this class because I guarantee theres no other professor like him.
Best professor I've ever had in BC, he loves what he does, even though it was a session 4 class it didn't feel like one. Every lecture is filled with a lot of information but he manages to make them interesting with videos and PowerPoint, Textbook is important in exam.
Super cool professor, funny, and gets you excited to learn more. always looked forward to his class. His tests are open note as well!
Dr. Dockswell had incredibly interesting lectures. The class was manageable and only had a few assignments per semester, I think one a month. He also had three tests and allowed the class to write on the board beforehand. Exams were tough and from textbook, but attending lectures that were fun to go to was nice. I would definitely recommend.
Class was enjoyable and entertaining. Prof is always fun, and I actually looked forward to his lectures. Writing assignments are very manageable and only like once a month. Exams are difficult and require studying, but if you put in effort, you'll do fine. I really enjoyed this class and definitely recommend.
Excellent professor.
A lot of people say his tests are oddly specific but I don't even think it's all that bad. He makes his lectures so fun and he has 6 total assignments for his class (all done at home) and 3 exams that I don't think are that bad. Really funny and entertaining guy.
If I'm being honest the workload was kinda hefty but the only reason why it never felt like that throughout the entirety of my taking this man's course was the lectures. You can tell he puts his soul into his lectures and it shows through the knowledge you gain. the only reason I didnt pass with a B or ^ is cuz I didnt do the discussions. take him!
Lectures = thorough & interesting yet slides confusing. Tests = blend of textbook, lectures/slides, & videos. Test = 200 points taken over 2 days. Come to class even if he doesn't take attendance. Assignments are sparingly given, yet graded hard, so show effort. Late short essays are docked 2% each day. He's well-informed but needs organization.
He's cool as a person but not as a teacher. His lectures are all over the place and you're better off just reading the textbook. Only 8 assignments the whole semester: 3 exams (100 questions each), 2 film assignments, 3 short writings (which are basically essays if you want a decent grade). He's a tough grader for no reason.
Phenomenal. His tests are hard but very doable if you study from the textbook. As long as you put in effort, you will get a good grade. If you don't show up to class, procrastinate on your essays, and don't study, you won't do well. Go to office hours; he'll give you feedback on essays before you submit them. Super fun guy and gives extra credit.
Excellent class and very easy. Dockswell was really good.
Love this guy. Impossible to fail with the amount of extra credit he gives and how easy his assignments are. He has engaging lectures, interesting discussions, and loves to entertain his students. Just attend his lecture and you'll get a good grade on the test.
Extremely test-heavy. There are 100 questions per test, and it is split over two days, and 50 test questions per day. Many questions are redundant, with small details. His lectures are very good and he is very funny. I enjoyed attending his lectures. However, in this case, the cons outweigh the pros. The tests are just too much.
His lectures are enthusiastic and very good. I do recommend reading the chapters or at least skimming over the reading and finding parallels with the PPT slides and see how they connect. Even though his attendance is not mandatory don't miss bc answers to test are in his lectures. Gives extra credit, take good advantage of that. Great Professor!
Suchhh a funny professor. Loved his entertaining lectures and how he ties topics relevant today to patterns of behavior from the past. Attendance is not mandatory, but I would strongly advise you to attend, as his videos and moments in class tie into lots of questions in his exams. I also suggest speaking up in class.
Show up to lectures, most of what's on test are shown in the lecture. He recommends getting the textbook but it isn't mandatory. Midterm and final are 100 question multiple choice, with extra credit questions. If you take him for a summer class then you are allowed to use notes.
Professor Dockswell makes this class enjoyable and easy. Lectures are engaging, and he gives plenty of extra credit. With the help of resources like Unstuck ai, I was able to stay on top of the material and earn a great grade.
Probably my favorite professor this semester. Incredibly engaging lectures, a relatively lax workload, and the only difficult part is the 100 question tests, regardless, awesome professor
Dr. Dockswell has the best lectures
He's the best history prof I've ever had, super funny and his lectures are amazing. I would not recommend to take this as a session 4 class though because the midterm and final will be very close. He makes the information very easy to retain because of how fun he makes it. Read the textbook and powerpoints
Great professor with great lectures and a lot of character. Gives only a few online quizzes and discussion questions for the 6 week class, with A LOT of extra credit you can do. If you pay attention to the lectures (which was hard not to) and study a bit you can do great on the exams. Genuinely 10/10 professor.
This professor is passionate about his profession. It's very noticeable. Very nice. I enjoyed his lecture. This professor is the first ever professor that I considered dropping. Not because he is a bad professor but his test is very hard and tricky. It doesn't matter you study or not. Very hard. If you are someone who a bad test taker, stay away.
Took it during summer session 2. dont do that you might die. But he let us use our notes/textbook/ppt prints during the midterm and the final (i sat there for four hours) the extra credit and quizes(you'll find it online) and discussions (work so hard i swear you need those points) saved me. i attended all the classes, but final was barely realted.
dockswells teaching is amazing. He makes the lecture like a story
Dockswell is a teacher you won't regret! Beware his tests, but don't fear the rest. His tests are all 100 questions, but they are split across two days, so it isn't too bad. All other assignments are insanely easy- You'll get an A. His lectures are amazing and attention-capturing. I willingly took him twice in a row, would've done a 3rd if possible
Professor Dockswell's lectures were very interesting and engaging. The down downside I would say is that he is very test heavy. We had 100 question tests split across 2 days and his tests have very specific questions that almost everyone is bound to get wrong. His tests do have extra credit tho which always helped my grade in the class.
Honestly my favorite prof. at BC. His tests are long, but if you actually print the vocab-which he GIVES you prior- and the ppt, you will do great. ALL exams are open book (no electronics). It's genuinely hard to fail. he is a great teacher, and has me excited for class, which is a first for me. THANK YOU PROFESSOR!!! Tip: print EVERYTHING(tests);)
very little homework, tests are the most significant part of your grade. I struggled with how to study for them, but that's not his fault. If you study well for the tests, it's an easy A.
He is very nice. Show up for class or don't; he doesn't care. He gives a lot of extra credit, is funny, and gives great lectures. Taking AMH2020 next semester with him also.
