He's a good prof. and his ambitions to help you learn are good, but....he's not very clear on how to teach stats.
He's not so bad. Sure, there's a quiz everyday, but at least then you know whether you actually know how to do the stuff before you take the exam. If you ASK questions, he will answer them. You just can't assume that he can read your mind.
You guys who didn't get it are all dumb! He's a a great teacher. Ok, yes he needs some new clothes, but still! All thought the middle of the class (if you pay attention) it makes no sense at all, but by the end of class it was like OOOOH! I GET IT NOW!

Wonderful professor, only math class I have ever gotten an A in. He made everything clear and repeated stuff so that we would better understand it. He was fantastic and his lectures were never boring!
Awful teacher, changes direction he's going in class far too frequently! The most anal grader I have ever met in my life! Do not take unless you absolutly have too! oh, and only buy the book that he made, not the other two he says are required!
I dread this class every week. Worst teacher I could ever imagine. He changes his grading format at least 4 times during the semester. He's a jerk; makes fun of you when you ask a question in class. He wrote his own book with millions of mistakes. SUCKS!
Very difficult, office hours make it difficult to get ahold of him. He changes his syllibus every other week so it is hard to keep track of grades and what assignments are needed. Hate going to this class everyday!
It's very hard to understand what he is teaching. He wrote his own book that doesn't make any sense. We work on ten different things at once and then take a test on it two months later. He is very hard on grading. Don't do it right don't get any points.
He's a good guy, just really unorganized last semester. To make up for it gave whole class extra 10%, still majority of class will get C's and D's

He is the worst professor I have ever had. He wrote his own book that is the most confusing thing ever, he jumps from one topic to another, and tests on stuff you went over a month ago. I strongly recommend not taking this class.
If you keep up with the homework he tells you to do you should be fine. Make sure you go to class and its really not that bad. Even though you think that reading the book doesn't help it really does.

Dr. DJ had a lot of energy. It is much easier to learn from a teacher who is excited about their subject area. The final was taken as a group, which was nice. I got an A in the class, so I don't know what everyone is complaining about.

From what I remember, he wasn't the best at explaining the concepts. Get a big binder if you take his class because you have to put together his book by yourself. I also remember having to track down apple comps in the library for class information.
Very hard teacher! Concepts are unclear, and most information is not irrelevent to what you need to know for future stats classes. Avoid him if possible because he is bad teacher!

DJ is so confusing. He changes his mind all the time. He cannot explain his answers to half of the questions students ask. He is nice enough but has NO clue what he is talking about.

Are you perfect????? If not then don't take this class. He doesn't give any partial credit on assignments but every problem is worth about 8 points out of 32. So one wrong and you are screwed. Avoid this prof at all costs.
I've never met a man more full of himself. The only difficulty in his class comes from his inability to explain statistics and his the pompus look on his face that you have to resist smacking off when you ask him to clarify what the hell he is saying

I firmly believe that he thinks he is the smartest man alive and we all are totally stupid. He also doesn't think any published stats book is good enough for him so he wrote his own (note the 4 inch binder). If you can get around his class ... DO IT!!!
Did not like this man. Forget to stable your assignment its a zero...was doing well in his class till i forgot to stable my jump project and he gave me a zero out of 50 had no way of getting my grade up and had to drop dont take him. Take Malone.

I had DJ a few years back. I thought he was a great prof. He did anything he could to help. If you didn't understand something during class, he wouldn't move on until everyone was on the same page. He also got to know everyones name, instead of a #.
I was a 3.8 GPA student and I got an F in this man's class. I would never take him again. I e-mailed him to ask him why I got an F and he told me I was a student who didn't care...what the hell in my hardest class why would I not care! DO NOT TAKE...
He is by far the worst prof. I have ever had. I dropped his class have way through the semester because I was getting an F. Thanks to him I am off the four year guarentee for the Nursing program. Also, I have never gotten below an A in any math class.

Dr.DJ is a wonderful teacher. He knows what he is talking about and really works hard to get people to learn the material. He is very helpful if you have a problem with anything. He challenges at a good level, and takes the time to remember your name.

don't take this class! teacher is arrogant, belittles students, thinks he's stats god. wrote his own scatterbrained book; in it he tries to justify racial profiliing and other political examples. you will spend more time trying figuring out how to take his class than learning the subject matter.

Famous line: "If you understand this concept its all down hill from here, but thats a BIG IF!" Yeah, constantly makes you feel stupid. I went in for help a couple of times, big mistake, made me feel even worse. Getting a decent grade in the class but it takes an enormous amount of dedication. Avoid!

The class is very easy to understand if you study and ask questions and follow along with all the homework assignments. Alot of these people thought that he was a tough professor because they thought it was an easy slide by class and didn't put to much time into it and yea, then it gets tough.
He really ain't that bad of a guy. He has his good days and he has his bad days, but so does everyone else. I never once studied for this class. I just listened intently in class and I understand what he was sayin. If I did have trouble I would just ask a question. He does sometimes degrade you.
This man thinks he is gods gift to the stats world. I would really like to throw him out of a window. Forgot to staple a 50 pt. project and he gave me a zero. And wouldnt let me use his stapler. Forcing me to drop a class near the drop deadline. Take Malone, easier, better, not a Nazi.
Great learning experience.I studied a lot, but I have developed many critical thinking skills! I like the content of the class as it is not memorizing formulas you will never use! What he teaches, you can use for every article and stat you ever read again!All who complain, try studying once!

This class is f'in hard and he will admit that to you the first day. It is a very confusing class. If you like math don't take him. If you need the class find a different teacher. I don't mind him but the class is f'in hard. He is somewhat of a prick also.
The class is hard. Very hard. But the book isn't filled with flowery stuff that you have to pick through. It's too the point and he teaches you what's in it. Very straightfoward. Believe him when he says you need to study everyday. It's true. But the class is valuable.

This class is not easy but anyone who is in college should be able to handle it. Do the homework when he assigns it, ask lots of questions in class, and if you are having trouble, go see him during office hours--he will like you a lot more and go easy on you. He isn't a jerk, just a mathematician.

Lied infront of the Diciplinary committee and got busted. screwed me over and made me want to drop and failed, I pulled an A out of his eyes. need to talk back to him when in his office. very creepy when collecting PHOTOS of students and he needs to change his shirt every once in a while.

This guy has no idea what it means to teach. He is their to make life hard for the student. He cannot explain anything. His problems that he makes up have almost no pattern to them at all. The homework problems are usually pretty easy, but once you get to the test he makes the problems 10 times harder so it is almost impossible to study for tests.
If you follow his instructions and go to class and ask questions you will do fine in this class. It is challenging but worthwhile. It has changed my outlook on a lot of my other classes and professors. He is somewhat anal but it helps to make you a better student in the long run by correctly following directions.
He is a bad teacher and an even worse person. He has a major anger problem and he should not be teaching. I have never met one of his students who thought highly of him or even liked him. He does not teach what the other professors teach because he is on a power trip. The fault with this is that he does not teach accurate information.

Extremely horrible! Attitude that he is all-knowing and you know nothing. Tests are ridiculous, his "take-home" quizzes are dumb. This guy is terrible. Do not take this course. I had to retake it with Safarian this year and it was amazing to see the difference between the two. It was like being in a totally different class! He's definately willing to help you during his office hours. He is a very nice man, however, he is extremely intelligent and he states on the 1st day that his class is 1 of the hardest you can take on campus. Unless you want to become a statictician, take caution in proceeding in his course.

RUN! Take MALONE! Malone is a great professor. Do not get stuck with this professor, you will crash and burn by the third week. He has a pass rate of less then 15% in his classes. Most drop or withdraw. Don't set yourself up for failure. Take it with Malone!

DJ is one of a kind. You definitely can get very very frustrated with him. He makes up a lot of his stuff, but he is a very intelligent guy. He loves people that asks questions and he really tries to get to know you. He's not as bad as it sounds. If you try, it's very possible to get a good grade.

He is a horrible teacher. He made up his own book and language. He is good about letting you retake his quizes, which I would strongly encourage if you do decide to take this class. You need to study alot just to pull off a C, which he tells you on the first day. I also don't think he was so helpful outside of class.
Dr. DJ is a very intelligent man- he wrote his own book for goodness sake. Sometimes the class is difficult but if you go to class, listen and take notes directly from the board its not that bad. He's great at answering questions- he wants to know you understand before he moves on. Lots of people are afraid of this class but its a great challenge!
Be prepared to be challenged. You must keep up with everything daily. Have a lot of quizzes that you need to study hard for. A the last day to drop, he starts giving out extra credit. Only 4 tests and they are similar to quizzes. No final or midterm. He's a hard teacher but I would recommend taking him!

Wow, thats all i can say. he teaches stats different than all the other professors, he changed the grading scale three times during the semester (two of the time were within a week of the final) not good about checking his email or voice mail. dont miss any of his classes for vacation, he wont let you make up any tests or the homework.

He writes his own book, which is fine, but it's all made up. I went into the class not knowing anything about stats and I left with the same amount of knowledge. You dont do much math,most is analyzing sentences. He admitted that he made up the content of the class. It's easy to get an A if you buy into it but otherwise its insanely confusing.
The bulk of the course work is memorization of DJ's personal notation. Not very useful outside of this class. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless they are looking for a way to keep busy every night.
hardest, most time consuming class EVER!!! i have learned the material but i have no idea how i am supposed to apply this to my life...i think he has made it all up...on a positive note, he is EXTREMELY helpful, i have been to him for help multiple times and he will keep you til you understand (or til you tell him you understand so you can leave)

He made up the book so you don't have to worry about applying any of it to real life. You have a quiz virtually every class and will spend loads of time trying to figure out what studying technique works for you. If you want a challenging class, you best take him. You will learn something for sure, but will not be an easy filler for a class.
Lack of organization. Do not know how to teach. Weird grading system. Always make mistakes on his "model answer", bad studying materials! The class materials do not make any sense. And the ideas are not consistent. DJ changes his ideas, rules, questions, and answers consistently.
DJ is very helpful. His grading scale is amazing so you can really understand the material. And his chest hair, UNBELiEVABLE! Once you get the material it is good from there, we learned a lot in short time while the other classes took too long and the students did understand. I would recommend taking DJ for stats!

TERRIBLE TEACHER!I was lucky enough to be able to drop the class. After he gave us 5 pages of homework and barely even touched on the assigned topic, he left us to figure it out with the textbook he WROTE HIMSELF!Completely incomprehensible!He even admitted that the concepts were hard to grasp and that most students failed until 2 weeks from exams!
Terrible teach would be an understatment. He is really rude and like to make you feel really stupid, and acts like high school taught us nothing and everything we learned there is all wrong. He makes up everything he teaches anyone outside his class does not know what he is doing. Dont take this class if want to learn something useful. Horrible

Dr DJ is not so bad. He is extremely helpful and will try to answer any questions you have. The textbook is one he wrote and their are hundreds of errors in it, which could be the reasonw why those who study less do better in his class. The man not only needs to start buttoning his shirt and wearing looser pants, but one time he ACTUALLY followed me home after class and asked me creepy personal questions about my interest in politics. I got a solid A in his class because I'm pretty sure I earned it, but sometimes I wonder...

I loved his class. I was a little nervous about taking him, but this class is not hard at all. He is very passionate about stats and will explain something 100 times over until everyone gets it. Take him if you get a chance to!
He is not that bad. I actually liked him. Attend class, ask questions if you don't understand - he will go over it as many times as you want! He also gives extra credit for finding spelling errors and mistakes in his work, easy points! Also, study.. it is not as tough as people claim it to be!
Actually a great instructor! I had no interest in stats and expected not to do well, but he explains everything very well and repeatedly when asked to. I am shocked that everyone doesn't get an A. He makes it simple to do. You don't really have to attend, but in order to easily do well, you must. Take him!!!
He is a great teacher and visionary about statistic. People say he is insane etc, just as Galileo Galilei, was once condemned by the Catholic Church as false and contrary to the Scripture and was told that he was insane by other scientist. He looks and shows statistic in a different point of view. SOMEDAY ALL STATISTIC WOULD BE TAUGHT THIS WAY!!!!
I took Statistics in High School and did very well. I failed his class, then took it the next semester with Malone and got an A. AVOID THIS TEACHER AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!!!

I would say not to take him. He does these JMP assignments and if you get good grades on them y ou can do good in the class. I do bad on the tests and still have a B but i had to teach myself everything. He doesnt teach good at all. If you do bad on both test and JMPs you are screwed. Dont take him.
He screws everything up. He'll give you an assignment, give you a mistake sheet for that assignment, and then tell you more mistakes he found on it. I think his trick is if you see all of his mistakes you understand the material, if not-he is confusing.
Good guy you wont like him at first but at the end he becomes more clear on what he wants done. Do all the assignments and youll be fine. Easy quizzes and really helpful I would recomend him and most people fail the class cuz they sleep in so dont take it at 8 if you can
This class was easy to get a good grade in, but the actual class itself was pretty useless. There is no math involved and he is always making errors in the text and explanations. If you can't avoid this teacher, it is still easy enough to BS your way through it. Overall, he is a nice guy but bad class.
He comes off as a pretty weird guy but I think he is actually nice if you go to his office. Sometimes he makes things seem way more confusing than they are, but its really an easy class, just ignore him when he tries to explain the mathematical explanations for things.

Just do your homework, the JMPS, and go to class every day since there are quizzes often. He wants you to do well! If you are lost, ASK HIM! He is very anxious to help (: Not the easiest class, but worthwhile.
He writes his own textbook so that you don't have to buy your own. The class was super easy if you pay attention. He gives a lot of quizzes but is always willing to push them off if people are confused or have more questions. Very helpful.

Overall, a pretty easy class and nice guy. I hate math and was dreading this course, but it ended up being a big GPA booster due to all of his extra credit. If you attend class and turn in all assignments, you will be fine. NO TEXTBOOK needed, he writes his own.

Ok, so he's not the brightest bulb (by any means). If you show up quizzes and turn in the jmp assignments you'll pass. If you are open minded and willing to change your attitude about stats then the class is easy. He's an idiot and underminds your intelligence whenever he can but the class is easy.

He's not that bad. If you hate math, this class is okay. We didn't work with numbers often and even though the assignments will seem very pointless(JMP), they're generally easy to do(he gives you the exact directions)and if you do the practice problems, which are exactly like the quiz, you'll get an A. No text and gives a lot of bonus points.
This class was pretty pointless. He was a nice person but the class did not teach me anything that I could use in the future. The JMP assignments taught me nothing, and did nothing to help me understand what we were learning in class. I would not recommend this class to any student interested in STATs.
I don't understand why he is not rated higher. I came into his class having no interest in Stats and to be honest still don't have much interest, but I still enjoyed the class as he is very passionate about what he does, and I appreciate that. Like people have said the JMP assignments are a bit pointless but if nothing else they are easy points.
The class is fairly easy but you won't understand a thing he teaches. Just do the JMP assignments and follow the directions because they tell you exactly how to do them!

Dr. DJ cannot teach you. In the homework he will explain precisely how to move your mouse and CLICK on a button with an extremely long definition, but leaves out all the info you actually need. Not to mention all of his handouts are riddled with errors. Sad, because he is really passionate about what he does.

I was unsure about Professor DJ before the semester started. As long as you go to class, do the JMP assignments you will easily get C. You are given practice problems that are exactly like the quizzes in class and he grades with a curve. Bonus points for days. I was hoping for a easy C when class started and I currently have a 93%. Absolutely awful! Worst professor on campus. Does not explain a single thing, isn't helpful what so ever, doesn't try and make things easy. Makes it seem like everyone is a stats major and understands everything he says...DON'T TAKE unless you want to stress out like you've never stressed out before!

Everyone says hes a bad teacher and you shouldnt take him. I have no interest in the class or math ahead of time, but I did just fine. Do your homework (a lot of it you can do with other classmates) and you will get a good grade. I think he deserves more credit than he gets.

i feel i should start off that he brought a test and answer key to my advisor so that he could make his tests more sociology based. his answers on the answer key were wrong. most of the answers he expects are wrong. you can ask any math major. he is terrible. i do not recommend him to anyone ever.
Worst professor I have ever had at WSU. He makes up his own material and made his own textbook. Hardly anything you do in the class has to do with actual statistics. He is rude and unwilling to help you out. His JMP assigments are ridiculous and time consuming, they have nothing to do with the actual class it's all just busy work. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
DJ is the WORST teacher I have EVER had. He laughs at you when you ask a question that he thinks you should know. He makes up his own rules and he does not treat every student equal. You take close to 30 quizzes throughout the semester. I didn't learn anything because I was so shocked by how rude he was. STAY AWAY FROM HIM IF AT ALL POSSIBLE.
This Class is somewhat easy if all of the material makes sense to you. But it is very pointless. Final is 30% of overall grade which is awful. All you do are scantron quizzes so if you understand how to do everything it is easy. If you don't, it's awful. JMP is pointless. only use it for half the semester. Dumb class overall i think.

I do not recommend this teacher. His material literally does not make sense for the first few weeks. There are 30+ quizzes, jmp assignments, and it is all cumulative. Something positive is that he offers EC for people who find typos in his textbook he wrote. Also, he tries to explain stuff more if you go to his office hours. I ended with an A.
Absolutely horrible. I fought with him everyday no matter what it was, he believes that everything he did was right and no one had a say. Worst teacher I have ever had. Hes not the greatest professor but honestly dont take him. He doesnt help you with specific questions he will only help you questions that are somewhat similar to what you are asking. If you are a kid that struggles with school I advise you not to take this class. He takes points off for the stupidest stuff. Just stay away from this teacher.
It's interesting topic to learn. And I will elity take some of what he has taught me and apply it later in life, but he is a strict grader, it's either his way or the highway. His policy is pretty nice. Hard teacher, hard grader, 60-70% of the class finishes with a "B" rest are either A,C,D or F, that was stated in his syllabus.

Most of these statements about this class are true. If you go to class, follow directions, ask questions in lecture, you could easily get an A. It all depends on how much you try in the class. Very strict grading policy. Lots of quizzes (take home and in class). Curves all of the quizzes. Gets easier as the semester goes on.
He is a great professor but you really need to do the work and bed on time to class and with your homework. If you fallow the instructions and do as he instructs during class you will pass no problem! Just stay on top of things, and don't miss class.
When I first signed up for his statistics class, I was terrified by all the negative reviews on him. For the first few weeks of class I was scared of him, thought he seemed really mean. But he is actually very nice. I went to his office many times over the semester, and he was always willing to help me, or discuss my grades. Great guy.
Lots of busy work, many JMP assignments that have nothing to do with the exams. A quiz or exam at least every week. At the end of the semester, a long assignment or take home quiz due every class. Hard and specific stats info for just an entry level class. I advise you to take a different professor.
A lot of people said he is very bad so I was nervous to take him, although he doesn't really clearly go over what he expects of you, he realizes that he is not a good explainer and he lets you re-do a lot of assignments and curves every quiz. Although this class was super hard and time consuming the curves helped and the re-do's he gave us helped.

I dropped his class last semester and took a different stats professor, and let me tell you, this guy teaches it like a completely different language. Content is very confusing, he grades incredibly strict. Double side print and staple your paper or you'll get a zero, and that's the tip of the iceberg. I'm not sure how his content is stats at all.
The class was pretty easy, you just need to be willing to do practice problems. The JMP assignments are beyond dumb, but he thinks they are important. So, either be good at JMP programming or find a friend that is. Quizes are often, but straightforward if you know what you are doing. Doesn't have exams. Emails back slowly. He's not so bad.
Easy course to take however DJ can be confusing when explaining things. Shouldn't be to difficult of a course to pass with a B.
DJ is by far the hardest professor I've experienced so far. He gives a quiz at least once a week and assigns TONS of homework. Avoid his class. I'm not a slacker- I work really hard- and this class STILL kicked my ass. Get ready to dedicate your life to his class.
Dr. DJ openly admits he is an anal professor. He's overly thorough with all of his text, writing, prompts, and homework. All of his work he writes himself and revises every semester. He once spent an entire page describing how to copy and paste. Listen, do your homework early (you will have lots of questions for open office hours), read the text.

If you can get A's on the JMP assignments you are golden pony boy. As far as tests and quizzes he gives you mountains of practice problems that can prepare you. He is also very open to questions during his office hours and can clear things up. Over all he is very nice and easy as long as you get those JMP assignments.
He'll explain anything you have questions on and if you go to his office hours he's incredibly nice and helpful. His course content is confusing but if you really commit early in the semester, it's not a bad class. Really if you get a bad grade it's your fault because there are LOTS of chances to bring it up.

Tough grader and very anal. Phones have to be turned off 2 minutes before class starts, and don't even think about coming if you're more than 5 minutes late.
He gives us about 10 quizzes and 10 take home quizzes, with about 15 JMP assignments, and a final that is worth 30 percent of your grade. The final does seem scary, but it's exactly like all the quizzes you take. His class isn't hard, but there's a lot of busy work. He doesn't use d2l so you have to keep track of your assignments to know your grade
Challenging material but DJ is always willing to answer any questions and is very helpful one-on-one. Stay organized and don't procrastinate and you'll do fine. Also take advantages of his extra credit opportunities
While it's not impossible to get a good grade in this class, you really have to do the practice problems and study on your own to do well in his class. He has quizzes every week and is very anal as well as rude about certain things. His answer keys for practice problems are usually wrong and he gets defensive easily. Wouldn't recommend him.

His JMP assignments are tedious, but the millions of quizzes he assigns are a piece of cake if you pay attention. He also made his own ridiculously cheap textbook, so you don't have to buy one. I have never met a professor that is so confusing in my life. He makes his own textbook so it is all off of his own knowledge and he teaches the way that he knows things. He is not willing to help understand in a different way even though he says he is. I can not say that I have ever been so confused in my life.
Dr. D-J really sticks to his guns. Read his syllabus, all the things he says he will not make exceptions for are ACTUALLY THINGS HE WILL NEVER MAKE EXCEPTIONS FOR. This includes but is not limited to things like contracting AIDS, having a baby or other similar life changing obstacles that might prevent you from getting something done for his class.

This was one of the hardest classes I've taken. In class, DJ was absolutely horrible. lectures did not make sense at all and homework on jump was irrelevant. But, 1 on 1, DJ was incredibly helpful. If i would have went to office hours sooner in the semester, I would have learned more and gotten a better grade
Read the material, ask questions, go to office hours. Most of the students in my class this semester skipped too frequently, didn't read homework assignments, and didn't do practice problems. He's a little eccentric, but interesting. Go to his office hours ASAP if you don't understand something. By far one of the easiest A's I've got.
This was the easiest college class I've taken so far. He goes over the material step by step in class to help you understand what he's teaching. He's pretty anal about grading assignments and there are lots of in class quizzes and take home quizzes, but if you show up to class and pay attention it's an easy A.
Attendance is not taken so you can easily get away with skipping. However you have quizzes on most days so you cant skip unless you want to lose points. His lectures can get very long and boring. Homework consists of practice problems, take home quizzes, and JMP assignments. On a majority of his practice problems there are wrong answers.
Take this class with a different professor! No feedback from assignments or exams. No published textbook, he wrote his own and ideas are hard to follow. Compared to other students taking STAT 110, we did not do what other classes were doing. some topics were way more in depth than they should have been. I did not learn what I need to. Waste of time

Dr. Johnson was okay. His method of teaching is confusing and he writes his own textbook so you only get the lessons from his point of view. I learned quite a bit about interpretation (not so much the math behind it). The nice thing about this class is that there are a LOT of points so you don't have to do perfect on everything.

Learn the basics right away, everything builds off each other. Its clear he cares about the class and topics at hand. Hes tough but worth it, especially to actually learn the material.

If you go over the material at least once before a quiz you will be totally fine. People make him seem like a horrible professor, but honestly it was one of the easiest courses I've taken so far. DJ is strict about how his classroom operates, no phones, no talking out of turn, lose points for silly things like formatting, etc. Follow his rules though and he is a great guy who cares about your learning. Before quizzes he will let you ask unlimited questions and takes responsibility for your understanding. Easy A if you follow the template

Pry could have gotten a better score on a final about his personal life(triggers for depression and derogatory towards Minnesotans), than what I got on my actual final. Scared to go to office hours. Picky grader(-4pts for stapling wrong)
He's very opinionated and very particular on any of assignments. His homework is repeats of the same thing. He makes his own textbook and makes you study from it, but often there are mistakes, so you get the wrong information for the test. He also is not very helpful when you are experiencing problems with his assignments. Very frustrating.

Jeffery Johnson doesn't teach statistics at all and would've been a better grammar teacher! His textbook doesn't match anything found online and it's his own "unique" interpretation of stats. Weird how he's the only stat prof in the field to do this? Makes me question why he is allowed to teach stats this long so far? Nothing is found online!
Often gets carried away of tangents sometimes about his personal life that has nothing to do with the lecture. He has a textbook that he created himself that can be hard to understand at times. His JMP homework assignments I found didn't help me at all with the class and quite frankly a waste of time. I would HIGHLY recommend a different professor.

I had an argument with Prof. Johnson about a missing assignment. I missed class, so I emailed him the same day asking what I needed to do. He assigned two assignments, but only mentioned one to me. A week later, he gave me a 0 on the assignment he didnt tell me about. I showed him screenshots of his email. He responded saying it was my fault.

He was a very opinionated guy and is not afraid to say how he feels. The small quizzes are cumulative in a way that actually helps you. After every new piece of info, you have a quiz, before moving on to new information. He is always willing to help outside of class, even though he may seem scary. Also there are special tutors just for his class.
LOTS OF QUIZES. I was honestly really scared for his class after reading some of the reviews on here. He actually is a really good teacher and makes it clear step by step how to answer problems. He uses own textbook. Ch 1,3,5,7,A were important, the rest were pointless and not on final. Doesn't let you out early and lectures are boring.

On the first day of class he made it clear that if you didn't like how his class was going there was no point in reporting hime because nothing would happen to him. Told us not to get tested for covid. Uses a book he wrote. Refuses to utilize anything online and you have to track your grade by hand or email him every time you want to know.

I can appreciate how he wants to use 'real world examples' but some of his examples are things that just shouldn't be brought up in a gen ed math class. He is very rude towards students and makes it clear that Minnesotan nice culture is stupid. I know more about his personal life than stats.
Dr. Johnson's class is very interesting and engaging, relates the class content to real life. As long as you take time, even 15 minutes, after every class to make sure you understand the concepts (the book is SUPER helpful and identical to the exams) it's very easy to keep up. Don't miss classes, not super flexible that way. Really enjoyed it!

Everything is organized and laid out very simple so it is clear what needs to be done. I dont think I wouldve passed this class if I took it with anyone else.
Honestly was one of my favorite teachers, I'm not sure why he is getting so much hate. All you have to do is show up to his class and ask questions, and he is pretty nice. Do your studying outside of class and go to office hours if needed (he likes people that go to his office hours). If you respect him, he will respect you back.

Missing more than 2 class for any reason will tank your grade. Communication isn't great, and takes pride in making the level 100 class hard for A students. Made his own textbook that is super unclear like his course. Will spend more time at the lecture talking about how the media fearmongers instead of teaching, while having 2 quizzes a week.
If you're not religious, pick one and pray. Jeff Johnson is one of, if not THE, most insufferable, inconsiderate, and blatantly rude people I have encountered in my 19 years of life. His class made me not only question my ability to succeed cognitively, but also my ability to get out of bed in the morning.

If you have taken stats prior to this maybe don't take him but if you have never done stats this class is a breeze, as long as you study the assigned pages, you'll be good to go. +office hours and communication.
In this class, you will really never catch a break between all of the quizzes, take-home quizzes, and assignments that are non-stop. Although it says attendance is not mandatory, it is very hard to do well in this class without coming to nearly every class.

25+quizzes,10+HW.Syllabus has 22 rules. Real math was used a total of 4 times. Talks about wildly inappropriate personal topics. Mistakes on many of the assignments. Not tech savvy, all HW is sent in an email. Quizzes are easy and repetitive. He is easy to get ahold of. Seems to believe numbers are the only way to understand complex social issues.
Either you love him or hate him, I learned to love his teaching style. He a hard one to get past and the class is hard, but most majors need it so he's not bad at all. A lot of quizzes and things to do. Go to class.
