he was a very fun teacher that likes to be very helpful and teaches you. he makes sure everyone knows his stuff.
He is a no BS kind of guy. His syllabus and instructions throughout are very clear and specific. He expect his instructions to be following to the T. He dislikes questions but more so errors. Proceed with caution.
INTERESTING WAY OF TEACHING, YOU LEARN A LOT IN HIS CLASS.
Bs are easy in this class, but Jeff makes the As a little harder to get. Still doable though. Doesn't take attendance but you'll miss 15 points of class work if you miss a day. Slightly mean sense of humor, but he means well. Interesting lectures-- funny.
Jeff is a very interesting teacher. He is very thorough, but because of this he expects you to be near perfect. His grading can be brutal (if you misspell a name it's an automatic 50), but his class is very structured. He also offers a good amount of extra credit. You have to show up for his classes or you'll almost certainly fail. Great guy
His teaching style is great- he will not test us on something he didn't cover. He is very serious about being late. He gives us an extra five minutes every day to turn in our assignment-but if you're there at 8:06, you're out. Even if you have a very convincing story because it's all about it not being fair to everyone else who got there on time. H
Super entertaining. If you pay attention he practically gives you the answers. A lot of work but an easy grader. if you can't show up on time don't take this class.
Love the class!!!! Just dont be late and do the extra credit just in case.
Good teacher - DO NOT EVER BE LATE - do all the work - all the extra credit - no book used - take really good notes - Remember names and dates for tests - Gave out A's no problem
Good teacher - DO NOT EVER BE LATE - do all the work - all the extra credit - no book used - take really good notes - Remember names and dates for tests. Very fair and nice person.
Professor spends too much time telling you how your're going to disappointment him. He works at a high school and treats all students as if they are in high school, it gets old. He's frequently unclear, and when asked a question, often says "I don't know". He may be funny at times, but there are better teachers out there dying for his job.
Awesome teacher! Crystal clear and fair. Up to date on the media and especially social applications for journalism. I will be taking more journalism classes at Pierce!!!
Great teacher! Can't wait to take one of his other class s next semester. Such a fun teacher and is really helpful. Tests are not hard at all as long as you studyyy. Some movies are boring but then again what do you expect in a film class. Do not be late! this is a class to take!
What an amazing teacher. I loved his class! he spoke so clearly and really helped you if you had any questions and he was also very funny
Great teacher, you will learn a lot. He is very clear, and tells you everything you need to know for the test. If you fail it's your fault. Class was all lecture based. Two film analysis, three tests, and one final. He also give more than enough extra credit. Take his class!
Awesome guy, keeps things fun, really knows his stuff. Definitely cares about attendance and uses the book for small quizzes. Super easy grader. I liked every single film he showed but people that were more Twilight/Transformers/vapid stuff like that types were not as enthused.
Very good indeed. Makes learning the subject enjoyable. I know that he's 'dumbed down' the course to try to retain some of the less conscientious folk, but some of the assignments require people to really dig deep, especially self-conscious folk. We have to go talk to people and make an effort. Great personality, fun, knowledgeable.
This professor will go to the ends of the earth to help you, you just have to work with him. Anyone who says he is unclear hasn't taken a class with him as he repeats himself at least three times for every instruction.
GREAT TEACHER! He is so easy. Make sure to always be on time though, I took his 11:10am class and he always closed the door every day at 11:16 for his 5 question quiz. Even though it's five questions it's very important! Make sure you have the book and read when assigned, it's only 3pgs that he makes you read. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIS CLASS THOUGH!!
Jef is by far the best instructor at Pierce College . He never gets tired to help students. He is friendly, funny, and professional .did I mantion how helpful he is? I wish I could more classes with him he is a great lovely teacher. His classes are fun. He is knowledgeable, and most the time in a good mood. Take in class and learn a new world.
Prof. Favre is a cool guy. Took him for cinema 101 in the Winter Semester. Kind of a no b.s. kind of guy. You can tell he really cares about cinema, which is great. Didn't assign that much homework. Maybe about 5-10 pages per homework assignment. Overall a good teacher, good class. He's pretty funny. Has a good choice of movies for his class!
Very straight forward guy. Tells you what you need to study, no tricks or surprises. But expect to read 5-7 pages each time before class and 2 essay projects. He is very knowledgeable on this subject. Overqualified to be teaching at pierce. I really enjoyed the choice of movies we watched and it was a very informative class. I learned a lot.
This was an Honors class so obviously there were a few film analyses papers and there was a lot of information covered but to be honest, Jeff is incredibly fair. As long as you show up on time every day and take good notes on everything he lectures in class and study all of those notes, you WILL get an A. The class itself is pretty interesting!
He's the best and the worst professor I'd ever taken. He's really resourceful and knows what he's doing. He's hilarious and sarcastic too. However the works he made us did was hellish. It was a tough class for me to handle. But he's really recommended, and those who're in this area of studies should take him at least once.
Hands down the best professor I've had at Pierce, I took his 8am broadcasting class. You have a quiz every class on the 4 pages he assigns, its a 5 question multiple choice quiz (easy) if you show up every class ready to learn you will get an A. If you do show up every class he drops your 3 lowest quiz and 1 lowest test grade, A LOT OF EXTRA CREDIT
love this prof! his voice and body language really makes you interested as he's giving lectures. he's very knowledgeable and you can tell he cares about what he's teaching and also cares if you're comprehending the lecture as it goes on. he breaks everything down very simply so you can take easy notes and test well.
First and foremost, this class is doable. I just finished Summer A with him, and I'm satisfied with the grade I earned. I learned so much from this class and it was really interesting. His lectures are engaging and you'll learn the history of mass media communication. If he ever teaches Journalism 100 online again, please do take him! Ty Jeff!
A fantastic professor, I am so glad I took the class over summer online! He posts good lectures and really great, thought-invoking videos to watch each week. Clear criteria for grading. He ACTUALLY gives real feedback on everything you submit. We had good convos online over the material. Def. glad I took the class and might take another soon.
Great professor, clear on grading and the syllabus is straight forward. Definitely no surprises on tests because everything comes from the lectures and the greenies. Learned so much from this class that I will remember forever! Take him!
He tests every class on what the previous class and makes sure you stay the entire class, as the final question of the test is given at the end of class. Watches movies during class on what was being covered.
Took this as an Honors class, and we had 2 film analyses, 3 tests, and the final. Don't miss class & don't be late because he makes sure to say all the important stuff before class even begins. Tests are all short answer and quite long. He lectures fast, but really wants you to do well. Take him if you're a film major, don't if you want an easy A.
He was an amazing professor. Took him for honors cinema and it was really hard but also really fun. Long papers, long tests, but you learn so much about film by the end of it.
If taking for a short semester prepare for two lectures and two films a week. You cannot move ahead. Most films are in b&w but are all classics.
He's a genuine guy, and is so willing to help. I took this online Winter 18, and there was a bit of work but if you do it, he pretty much passes you with A's/B's. Two lectures, two films per week. The tests were my weakness, even though I studied, but overall, he's a recommended professor from my view!
Not an easy A because there is so much material to remember, but Jeff is amazing and the class is so interesting! Especially for who lives in a city like LA! :) take him and you will learn so much and laugh so much.
JEFF'S THE BEST. He's legit. He has a deep, sincere interest in helping students digest and internalize the information he teaches, which is evident in the extremity of the lengths he will go to to ensure its retention. He's also funny as heck and very self referential. The section of his brain which usually provides a filter houses wit instead.
If you are looking to fulfill a GE requirement and you want to have a solid GPA, do not take this class. Hard tests, final took me more than 2 hours, all essays are 13+ pages to get an A in honors, not understanding if you have any personal issues
Took the class as honors, and while it was tricky almost everyone I know got an A, and a few got Bs, but with the extra credit and fairly easy grading on papers it wasn't that hard to get an A. He's funny and really tried to make the material easy to understand. I took him for non-honors and it was easy, and I expect honors to be a bit harder.
I took honors, definitely do not recommend him unless you are a cinema major. 2 movie analyses that need to be 13+ pgs. for an A, honors paper is 2 movie analyses as well as history background, tests are really hard, basically memorization, no multiple choice, all written response (about 50 questions), really hard final (3 essays, 70 written resp.)
I took his honors cinema class. It was tough, but I know talking to other students that almost everyone got an A, and a few people got Bs. He makes it easy to know what's going to be on the test. You don't have to read the textbook - just take notes. He actually made movies interesting to me - and I'm not usually into them. He's funny too.
Really detailed in his lectures and very patient when students repeatedly asked the same question. His instructions on when reports are due or what will be on quizzes are very clear. Hes defiantly very animated and keeps you interested in the topic being discussed. Only knock was that I bought the required book for class & didn't need it.
No matter how hard you work, not eneough Lucky if you get A Lectures are heavy some more than others Combined PACE with online classes A lot of homework, a lot of quiz. On the discussions online, points are taken away
I don't know if it's easy or if he's just good at explaining it, but the cinema class was a pretty easy A. His lectures are interesting, I liked most of the movies and he gives extra credit. He seems to be having a lot of fun, so that makes it more fun for the students. I'm taking his online journalism now and it seems pretty fun and easy too.
It's tricky at first because it's different writing than English, but I got the hang of it. The lectures are all online and easy to follow. He makes you write notes from them, which is tricky at first, but he grades that easy and then I used those notes for the test. He seems funny. I am going to take him in person for a magazine class in the fall.
Professor Jeff is a great, I took Broadcasting 1 and it was great, his lectures are long because He makes you write notes from them like time stamp, but you could use those notes for the test. He does a quiz every week based on the book, but they are super easy. you will learn a lot from that class, plus he will give you some extra credits.
I took him online for Broadcasting 1. He seems like a really nice guy. His work however is kind of a waste of time and is boring for the most part. Like an hour of lectures per week and 10 pages to read for the weekly quiz. He also spies on you for tests and quizzes. You can cheat a few times, but he'll notice eventually and email you about it so.
I LOVE JEFF! He is one of the most entertaining teachers I have ever had. 3 tests, 50 questions each, handwritten short answer. 2 analysis essays about 10 pages each and 1 honors paper about 20 pages. Show up to class, take notes/ study notes well, YOU WILL GET AN "A". Fun and thought provoking class, but not helpful if your not a film major.
Honors cinema: 3 tests all free response, they are LONG but as long as you write something down you will get some points. 3 papers, 2 analysis 8-10 pages & an honor paper 17-25pgs. They are not tough essays but they are lots of work. LOVE the prof but definitely a lot of work.
Jeff is great but an extremely tough grader. I care deeply about his lectures but only made about four perfect scores. Giving the right answer isnt ENOUGH. You will NOT get a 100 for simply putting the right answer. Go overboard on every detail and you will do spectacularly well. Easy enough to get an a with him if you are attentive and try!
GET TO CLASS EXACTLY WHEN IT STARTS!!! This is the time that he will give important test information. He does not want the students who are late to receive this info. He's super strict with turning things in, and is super sarcastic. None of his lectures are posted online, so be prepared to write, and write fast. Tests are all open-ended. Enjoy.
Really tough grader. Don't take him online!!!!!
Ive taken him twice online. Its a pretty easy A if you just do the work. His lectures are easy to follow and he answers email. Looking forward to taking him again!
This is my first time taking an online class, and I thought it would be more difficult-boy, was I wrong. He films his lectures and posts them, so it's just like being in person but you don't have to leave the house! If you do all the work it's not hard to get an A. Would definitely take him again!
Im not sure why anyone would call this class hard. Nine pages of reading a week. Easy to follow video lecture. One paper. He takes out the lowest test. Watch the lectures and its an easy A. I actually learned some cool stuff too!
While I got a B, an A was easy enough - I just got caught up in outside work. But if you do the work - and his lectures are really easy to follow - you can get an A. It's pretty interesting stuff. He makes you do this time stamp thing. It took me a couple of weeks to get used to it, but it isn't hard - and it kind of helped.
Fantastic grader and I actually learn what he lectures. One of the best online courses I have taken. Thanks Jeff!
I loved this class. Not only did I learn a lot but he was a great professor. I took this class online, and yes you have to do the work but it was totally worth it, i would take it again, and I do not regret it at all. I recommend this class to all who can take it. He makes his lectures really interesting.
This was the first onlinePierce College class I had taken while in my Sophomore summer break, and to be honest, he's a great teacher, BUT DONT GET LAZY OR COCKY. My grade fell from a 98% to 1 91% one time, not because of how hard he was, because I just took the test too lightly. All his work is do-able, you just gotta put in a bit of elbow grease.
He is such an amazing professor! I took his online class for this summer session and it was very easy to handle. I had two extra classes for this month and I would say that it is not impossible. Tests are based on films and video lectures. Time stamp is required or you lose points. He is caring and wants you to excel motion pictures! Amazing! :)
Jeff is a great Professor i took his 107 class online. He requires a timestamp for his lecture and movie questions, this can be annoying but its easy to do. His lectures are clear to understand and his test questions are straight from the lectures. He expects a lot of detail in your answers for full credit. The Movies he assigns aren't boring !
I enjoyed reading his thoughtful comments on my work. The lectures are very interesting and easy to follow. He is very tech savvy. The movies that were mandatory to watch are enjoyable and allow you to see how films today were greatly influenced by them. I am glad I learned about all the concepts on how to make a movie.
Loved this class actually learned, you had to put in a good amount of work but at least it was interesting and you learn new daily things. Learning about show business and earlier technology was definitely a nice experience!
Easiest honors class I have taken out of the 6 that I have done. First off, he is a hilarious professor. Material is quick to catch on and responses are mostly based off of your liking and why. He is looking for thoughtful writing and it does not have to be correct, everything in that class is argumentative. LOVES TO GIVE EXtra points on anything!
Great teacher. Gives great feedback. Grades quickly. Replies to emails promptly. Tests are kind of hard and proctored. You need to do the work and study hard. Timestamps make homework difficult. I learned a lot. 10 lectures, 10 movies, 10 discussions, 2 tests, analysis paper and a final. Allows for extra credit. Will give bonus points for homework
He assigns too much unnecessary work that can be simplified into just a couple of assignments over time. A lot of classmates and I feel this way. The whole COVID situation really is used an excuse to push more unnecessary homework down students throats. Chill
I took this course in the spring. While I didn't like every movie we watched, I learned a ton about movies. The tests were long, but he gives extra credit and grades most of the assignments easy. There are three papers, but that's because it's an honors class, so I expected that. He got back to me with questions really fast, so that was good.
This is my third online class with the teacher- no COVID classes, but ones actually meant for online. The lectures are easy to follow - he makes you type these notes but it's not hard and easy to use to study for tests. One paper usually - he graded it pretty easy. Extra credit - not hard to get an A. Answers messages quick.
This class - and the teacher - was a blast, even doing it remotely! The A was easy, but the best part was having a radio show. I got to talk about my favorite topic with fun guests I chose. This one assignment, the documentary, is a bit tricky, but he helped a lot and made sure I could get interviews. He helps with your writing too.
Never in my life have I been forced to do so much knit-picking for a movie, and its not just the techniques he teaches us. On the tests hed ask questions like what was the color of this womans nail at this exact moment. QUESTIONS THAT LEAVE EVERY STUDENT IN THE CLASS IN DISBELIEF. Hes a good guy, but he needs to relax on everything -everyone
Very tough grader, not enough extra credit. You have to get almost every assignment 100% just to get an A. He takes extra points from me for no apparent reason, doesn't even state why.
The class was easy but not boring, even though I wasn't sure I would like all the movies I actually like almost all of them. No textbook, so that was good and the extra credit was easy - but didn't even need it to get the A, just did it in case. He answered all my emails same day - hope to take him for some other classes.
I thought I could write OK, but I realized how many things I was doing wrong with writing. The lectures are easy to follow. You do these worksheet things and he pretty much gives you all the points. There's extra credit and he takes out the lowest grades on homework. Hard not to get an A if you do the assignments.
This class would be in person but coronavirus made it online. I almost didn't take it, but teacher made it work. Got my own radio show, talked about movies and had cool guests. I learned how to edit audio using this software. Easy - he mostly gives you an A on everything and just wants you to get better. Ton of extra credit.
It's honors, he said he teaches an easy version it for non-honors, so it's a bit tough - mostly the tests. They are long. But if you study the lectures carefully and take lots of notes then they aren't too hard - and he gives extra points a lot. The papers are long but actually kind of OK - and he does't grade them super hard if you do them right.
Nice guy. Had a lot of questions and he answered the quick. I did OK, but it wasn't too hard to get an A with extra credit and he drops lowest two scores. He really loves journalism and I think I will take the next class because I want to write for the school newspaper.
There's a book but it's cheap used. Easy multiple choice quiz each week - tests are simple. He's kid of funny and the lectures are easy to follow. Big extra credit.
This is a new online class - I had this teacher before so I knew what to expect - it's lectures that you follow with these question sheets - really easy. The tests come right from that. One easy project - he's fun an I learned some cool stuff. I needed this class for CSUN so I am glad I could take it at Pierce.
Favre starts off the semester very late, even though everything is online. So, he bunches up all the assignments. For instance, in the week before finales, He decides to throw variety of assignments including a paper assignment, 2 film assignments, 2 lectures, 2 discussions, and finally a lengthy Test. Also, he uses protorio and leaves u on read.
Just finished the PACE version of this. It is only half a semester so it goes faster, but it was pretty easy - I liked most of the movies and the lectures are easy to follow. Lots of extra credit so an A was easy. I took another of his classes, and it was the same. .Just have to be organized.
Took this as honors (my sister took it as regular and it sounded so easy!). It's a lot of stuff, but it's interesting. I actually learned a lot - but there are three papers - in regular my sister said only one. Did the extra credit, so it was not hard to get an A.
This is a radio class - you get your own show! It's live - so you need to do the Zoom during COVID but he's funny and the assignments aren't hard. I got to do a show about something I love, so loved that!
In terms of lots of homework, the student really just has to be organized. I actually loved all the movies he selected for the course. Its an easy grade if you simply put your personal opinion and thoughts to the assignments, something he really wants to see from his students. I'd love to take another class with him in the future.
Amazing professor, LOTS of work. Sometimes 2 movies a week (required to timestamp your answers - this is annoying), lectures (checks your notes. must be DETAILED), and discussions. Tests are very long (3-4 hours) but easy. Gives a LOT of extra credit. Two analyses and one 30 page honors paper. Very interesting and easy content, very time consuming.
Amazing professor! This class definitely pushed me to go out of my comfort zone but it was well worth it. This is a great class not only to learn how to interview people and work Audition, but it also helps you to build up a portfolio as well. Jeff is a very inspiring professor and his lectures are always very entertaining and engaging.
Very straightforward and organized. Easy winter online class with around 6-7 assignments a week all graded pretty easy.
This is one of the most stressful and time consuming classes I ever took. You'll spend half your days time stamping his lectures. Mr. Farve please reconsider your teaching style. This is a Cinema bro come on.
The A was super easy - but it actually was fun too! I didn't love every movie we saw, but I saw a few that I thought I wouldn't like but did! Easy class- mostly just saying what you liked or didn't about movies.
Trying to figure how you don't get an A - he made it so if you do the easy work you already are almost an an A - and the final was just the other tests again, so it was easy to remember the stuff. I did the extra credit in case, but I didn't even need it. Fun class! I learned some stuff that made it more fun to watch movies.
I've had Jeff for three classes - all fun all As. You have to do stuff every week but mostly it's watch these easy lectures, take notes and then watch a movie. Way more fun than Stats.
Took this class - first in-person but it got moved to Zoom because of COVID. He is so funny. He doesn't take anything late, so that part you have to remember, but the rest is really easy to follow. He answered all my messages the same day. I'm taking his Journalism 101 class next.
This class is the Pierce newspaper, and Jeff is the adviser. I'm not going to lie. It's a fair amount of writing, but I never learned this much in one class. I went from OK writer to a pretty strong reporter in three months. This is the most important class I've taken.
He acts like you are getting a PHD in cinematography. His test are through Proctorio. He acts like you are taking a test to work at the Pentagon. It is not that serious! His lectures, test, discussions, & movie reviews are heavy & you must time stamp everything. He does not care if you are dying , he does not accept late work EVER! DO NOT TAKE HIM
Jeff is so knowledgeable about cinema, and I cannot believe how much I learned in this class. The lectures were so interesting, and hes also really funny. As long as you turn your stuff in on time, its an easy A.
I liked most of the movies, and the lectures take a little getting used to with the time stamping, but after the first couple it's pretty easy. He gives a lot of extra credit. I did it, but turns out I didn't even need it for the A. Overall a great class and I learned a lot.
I've had him in a few classes, and they all pretty much work the same. I'm not really that into movies, but I did learn a whole lot about how they're put together. Dude responds quick-must live on his phone.
Trying to figure out how anyone doesn't get at least a good grade in this class. I looked. If you do every assignment you'd have to try to get worse than a B. If you do even a bit -and it's actually a fun class, it's an A. If you're close there's extra credit. We watched 10 movies. Liked seven of them and the other three I was still glad I saw them
If I could go back I would take another class. Tbh this class is not worth the stress and pressure. He is a bit tough grader and lectures are heavy you need to get into as much as detail as you can. Extra credit is an option. Tests are protected and long so get ready to memorize. For a community college level it is too much.
I thought it would be tough, but never got worse than a B+ on any assignment. He just wanted my opinion and examples from the movies. I didn't love every movie, but I'm actually glad I saw them. He's kind of funny, so that helps. Responded to every question I asked - same day.
Only took this class Visual Communication because it fit my degree requirements, but I ended up liking it a lot. It's all online, easy to follow lectures, easy tests and it made me think about how I look at images in all media. I actually am going to take the teacher's magazine class, Journalism 220 - I'm like to take photos and can do it there.
I had never done any journalism class, but I wanted to try because the school magazine always looks cool. The professor helped me a bunch and they don't grade hard - there's another teacher too, and we learned how to do layout and even worked on video editing. The magazine looked great!
Do your self a favor and run away! I wish I could go back in time and choose another professor. His 3 units honors class feels like 10 units! He expects you to write a page-long response to each question! The most difficult class I've ever taken! Avoid!!!!
Most everyone I know in the honors class got an A. It wasn't that hard, but you do have to study for the tests. As long as you give examples from the movies, it wasn't hard to get the points. I did the extra credit, but it turned out I had enough for an A already. The honors paper was long but not hard.
Took him for a non-honors class, and it was so easy. This was honors, so it was a bit harder, but mostly just needed to stay on top of the assignments. Lectures are easy to understand. I did OK on the first test, but then aced the rest once I figured out how he graded. Three papers, not hard. Honors students should do fine.
This is the radio station at Pierce. You get a show. I did one one comic books and had so much fun. Grading is super easy. He just wants you to learn the stuff so you can get better. The only way you don't get an A is to not try at all.
Almost didn't take this because I didn't know what it was, but I needed it for GE degree and it turned out to be fun! It's mostly looking at photos and other images and talking about why they look the way they do and the meaning of them. I actually have used some of it in other classes and it helped. Responds real fast on Canvas.
Cracks me up that anyone thinks the honors is too hard. I went to UCLA and it was way harder. It's a lot, for sure, but almost everyone I knew in the class got an A and one got a B, but he missed a paper. It's a lot, but if you do the papers he grades them pretty easy. If you can't do an honors class, he said his non-honors is super easy.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He assigns an unreasonable amount of work, prepare to watch 2-3 films, 2 discussions, multiple lecture notes on a weekly basis. His tests are 3.5 hours long and proctored. Prepare to sell your soul for this class and not do work for other classes. No other honors class assigns this much work, it's literally a cinema class!!
Its an easy class but pretty fun. History of TV and radio. The lectures are not long and the extra stuff is good to watch. Easy A.
Most of the time the homework takes 10 minutes a week, but it actually helped me be a better writer. I decided to take the next level class of writing for the newspaper.
Took the honors. Long tests but everyone I knew got an A. Just had to study that day. Papers were long too but he graded them really easy.
Do not believe the positive reviews & make the same mistake I did. He assigns an unreasonable amount of work. He is the most difficult grader and leaves no room for mistakes. 3-5 sentence answer is not enough for him, he WILL dock points. He still assigns the usual work load on the week of exams or final paper. Save yourself the stress & torture!
Three times with his teacher - three easy As. He makes it so if you do all the work, which is watch some lectures and watch movies, you get an A if you do at least OK on the tests. I can't figure out who does bad in these classes.
Jeff said do the work and you'll do fine on the grade. I think everyone got an A. Did a fun radio show and podcasts and got to be a better editor of my audio. Funny teacher. Going to take his magazine class next.
Jeff teaches with Jill Connelly. I got to write a story for the magazine on my favorite sport. I didn't know how to write in this style well,. but Jeff worked wit me a lot. I think i am going to join the newspaper in the spring.
This is the honors version. It's not the easiest, but everyone I knew the class got an A. Mostly had to study for the tests and the honors paper takes a bit, but he grades the papers pretty easy.
Honors. Not the easiest. He gave a lot of extra credit. There were three papers and one was pretty long but the grades were pretty easy. Got an A. Liked most of the movies not all but they were not bad just older.
The homework is so easy. You just write about one sentence or two. You have to do it in a certain way that journalists do it, but he gives you 100 on the first few assignments to you get how to do it. Only two tests. The only hard part is a story you have to do where you interview three people but not that hard.
If you want to pass DONT TAKE HIS CLASS. Terrible professor, if you confront him over any issue he will be petty towards you and doesnt even explain what you did wrong. DONT listen to the good ratings: NOT TRUE. Time stamp everything and expects you to write multiple sentences for each answer and when he wants your opinion its really HIS opinion.
Took as honors - had this guy fir regular and it was easy. this was much harder. got an A. everyone i know did, but it did take some work. Had my cousin take it as not honors and it had like three true and false tests and one short paper. this one had three papers. Still i got the a.
Write a story a week for the newspaper. It's work, but it's worth it. We get to meet former students who now are professional reporters or PR people or videographers. He helps people get internships and they know a lot of people at the universities, so you can meet people before you transfer.
EASY A. Just watch these lectures and take notes. Then you have a couple of small projects like redesign a webpage and create an ad. Got an A. didn't have to study. extra credit but didn't need it.
Super easy A. Very flexible professor and genuinely cares about students success.
Simple: All you have to do is write at least thirteen stories on various subjects, write a court story, and present one chapter of a book along with your work published for the final. If you don't come to the final, your grade will drop by a letter grade. He's caring and he holds no bias toward anyone. If you love writing, this class is for you.
He gives SO MUCH extra credit for Cinema 107. Not a harsh grader, very open-minded, he left really great and fun comments on my work. Weekly work like 2 lectures, 2 discussions, and 2 films but as long as you manage your time wisely you'll do well ! He responds SUPER QUICK to canvas messages which is helpful. Learned lots of interesting things
Loved Prof. Favre! This was the honors course, and he assigns ~1-2 films/week with questions that must be answered & TIMESTAMPED, so you MUST watch the film! Late work is NOT ACCEPTED for any reason! Offers a 30pt extra credit essay at the end, and replies on Canvas within 10 mins. Do the work on time, take thorough notes, and you'll do great!
Cinema107 HONORS If you don't put in the work, you won't get an A. 1-2 films a week and you have to timestamp so you do need to watch the movie. 3 proctored exams and the're long but if you study the lectures and your notes you should be fine. There's 3 papers. Great Professor and fun class, just put in the work! Gives EC too, really great class.
Pretty easy, actually. Liked most of the movies. The lectures are pretty easy to follow. I had a few questions and he met me on Zoom and responded pretty fast. I got extra credit on a lot of assignments and the test was easy.
History of movies. We watched Selena and Bonnie and Clyde and some others. Even the old movies were decent. Watched the lectures and there was one paper that wasn't hard. He grades super easy.
I am currently taking Jeff for Cinema 107, and I absolutely love his lectures. He is funny and caring, he responds quickly to any questions you may have. I currently changed my major and this professor has made me feel like I made the right choice. Thank you very much professor!!!
Easily one of the toughest classes I have taken. Time management is key to the course because there will usually be 2 lectures, 2 movies, and 2 discussions per week where you are required to time stamp. A lot of extra credit is given, if you put in the effort for the assignments. The analysis paper was super fun but the test difficulty was insane.
Was not expecting this class to be as hard as it was, so make sure to manage your time and stay consistent in your work. You have one paper for this class, two tests, and extra credit. You can also get extra points through the classwork and discussion boards. Overall, a difficult class, so stay on time and make sure to time stamp!!!
Beware, of this professor, I thought Broadcasting 001, would be easy since I took Journalism 100 and passed it but the lectures for this Class, are very long and Time stamping takes hours of your day or up to a week. The assignments were ok but he takes points off for small things. Do not take this class, if you're a busy person.
This is my third class with Professor Jeff. He does these recorded lectures that are pretty easy to follow. He gives extra points a lot, so getting an A isn't hard if you do the stuff. There's one paper, but it's not hard.
This is the class for reporters for The Roundup newspaper. I learned more in this class than any other class. Jeff brings in professionals in different communications jobs almost every week. We get to write about so many great events. I'm going to be an editor next year for the paper.
While the work itself is not difficult, the sheer volume and time taken up by it is. Timestamping questions that are not always in chronological order will take up hours of your week and tests are also hyper-specific and proctored using Yuja. The content is interesting but the class just demands too much time out of your week.
It's an honors class, so there's more work than usual. Some of the students asked for extended deadlines, so he opened up the work earlier and that helped. He gives extra points on most assignments and it's not hard, but you do have to watch 10 or 11 movies. The tests are long but not hard. It's all stuff in the lectures and assignments.
Took for honors. It's not hard, but there are many films and lectures. He grades pretty easy, and it was pretty much what I expected from an honors class. I learned a lot about film, though, which was fun to know!
I initially took this course to start with my honors courses and for credit. I knew it was an honors course so more work but it's too much. I do not recommend taking this class if you're very busy or can not handle so much work while having other heavy courses that may be more important for you/ for your transfer.
It's more than my regular classes, but the professor grades pretty easy on the papers. The tests are longer, but the film assignments were not hard. It took more time, but an A wasn't hard.
Jeff Favre is one of the most passionate professors you'll have the pleasure of learning from. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable in journalism, broadcasting and film, his lectures are spoken from experience and with a sense of humor that'll keep you engaged. You will not regret taking a course from Jeff.
Loved Jeff! He was super sweet and pleasant and seemed genuinely passionate about what he was teaching which made the lectures feel way more interesting. There is some extra content you have to view for the assignments but even that content is very entertaining.
Bro was meh
This is the best class I've had. I learned more about writing than all through high school. I'm now one of the editors, and I'll transfer newt year and be fully prepared thanks to Jeff!
You are required to watch his lectures (which are poorly recorded from old in-person classes) and complete the most tedious assignments ever. You have to time stamp your response when you hear him answer the question. The movies are boring and LITERALLY made me fall asleep. Don't take his Cinema class.
Jeff makes it easy to follow the class. You do these easy assignments for lectures and then for the movies. Some of the movies are older, but some are new. It's pretty interesting actually, and it's a pretty easy A.
Took this class for my major and it's fun. You get to create a weekly podcast on a subject you're into and there's a real studio to do them in. The other assignments aren't hard and you get more than enough time to do them. He's pretty funny and nice and will help you with your work.
The assignments themselves are relatively easy, however require you to seriously understand the material abd a LOT OF YOUR TIME!!! The courses, for a GE class, is incredibly strenuous and time consuming. Unless you're a film major or you're very eager to learn about film history, do yourself a favor and find a class where you can just chill.
It's not a hard class, but I took it as an 8 week one and it goes fast because there is twice as much work each week as a regular one. Once I got used to it it was fine and there was extra credit. he gives extra points on lots of assignments so an A wasn't that hard.
Professor Favre was very encouraging with this class. As a film major, I was intimidated by the workload, but from the very beginning, he told us what the class would consist of. The live show seemed hard, but if you're willing to put in the effort, all that matters is that you try. No matter what he'll ask you how can he help you which means a lot
Good teacher but a lot of homework
Best decision of my life was to take this class. a newswriting class where you get to write for the school newspaper alongside editors and photographers. super in-depth, his lectures actually prepare you for the real world - he teaches important skills and lets you get experience. It's a hard class but if you're putting in the work it's so worth it
Coursework is not too difficult, but there was A LOT of it (took him over winter). Had to watch 2 movies and 2 lectures each week, with each assignment being based on them and often requiring timestamps. Also is willing to give extra credit on pretty much everything. Put effort into it and you'll likely get an A.
Took it online, with honors, its a lot of work for one week sometimes but easy enough grader for the 3 tests he gives. His lectures are online and as long as you take good notes/ answer what he wants its full credit. He gives extra credit for a lot of things. The final papers are the hardest but you have enough time to get them done.
very tedious assignments on a weekly basis and will take up alot of your time. be prepared to focus on this class only if you have others forget about it. no regard for students with full time jobs or parenting. this course will demand you full attention and time.
This is an honors class, so it was harder than a regular. But the movies were interesting and he grades pretty easy. There's a lot of extra credit. Three papers, not too hard.
I took Favre as an honors professor. There are weekly lectures with notes that you have to submit. There is also usually at least one film you have to watch and write about each week. There are 3 exams and 3 papers (though they are very informal papers). I love film and came in knowing almost everything in class, which made all the work tedious.
He was very understanding and chill. I found his class to be very interesting. He has note-taking assignments for his online lectures and although it's a lot, it made everything very easy to grasp. Overall, a good class.
this was the worst class I have ever taken. I have never in my 2 years at Pierce had to drop a class so fast. The assignments take several hours to complete making you watch 2+ hour long movies in black and white from the 1940 giving you SEVERAL questions that make up have to rewatch. Tests are proctored with a camera and mic. PLS save yourself.
Took as part of this program at Pierce called PACE. It was 8 weeks and it went faster than a regular class but it wasn't too hard. It has lectures that are easy to follow and there is one test and one final. The paper was easy just had to mostly give opinions. The professor answered questions fast and gave lots of extra credit.
I thought this class would be hard at first but was easy. Just watch lectures and write what the teacher says. Watch movies. I liked some and didn't like some but they were all at least OK. He grades easy, so I pretty much had an A before the final even. Didn't need extra credit but there was a lot.
Professor Favre's class had a heavy workload, but his engaging lectures and use of Unstuck ai made it manageable. The films were interesting, and he graded leniently.
This is a great class. Everything is very practical and you get to write about sports, news, theater and so many other things. Lots of opportunities for extra credit. There are more assignments than some other classes that aren't journalism, but every assignment is short and easy. Worth taking even if you're not a journalism major.
Avoid if you want a life , piles and piles of assignments to complete all due on sunday nights , must watch lecture videos plus movies every week ,
I took it through a program called PACE. It was eight weeks, so there was more stuff each week than a 15 week class. But he gives loads of extra credit and the paper wasn't hard. I even liked a few of the older movies. At first it looked harder than it was and I'm glad I joined PACE!
The best thing I ever did was joining The Roundup as a reporter. I've learned so much and I've decided to get my journalism degree! He explains how to write stories so well, and I grew so much as a reporter. I'm becoming an editor next.
Had a clear passion for his subject which made the class very enjoyable to take. A good amount of work but nothing that wasn't too difficult but definitely took some time. Tests were simply enough as long as you looked back at the lectures which were very easy to follow along. Papers were also very easy to complete.
Terrible, thought would be different because of this site
I'm in the middle of the class, but the teacher is easy to ask questions to and the assignments aren't hard. He grades them pretty easy. It takes some time, but it's interesting and I'm learning things about movies i didn't know.
As part of the PACE program that does classes in 8 weeks, it ran a bit faster than I'm used to, but I even though I missed like three assignments I still got an A pretty easy. He gives extra points a lot and there was extra credit.
Amazing professor, heavy workload if you're taking his 5 week summer course but I learned a lot and he's very open to you reaching out to him. Late work is an absolute no so do be weary of that if you're a procrastinator. He assigns his work at the beginning of the week on Mondays and it's all due Sunday at 11:59.
For a 3 unit class the workload is insane and way more than major focused classes. He uses proctoring tool for tests and it is so outdated+annoying to use, it makes test taking 2x longer by the amount of times you get kicked out. He does respond to messages very quickly, but doesn't compromise for whatever goes wrong with your grade or assignments.
It's not a hard A for honors, but it was only nine weeks so it went faster than normal. He took some stuff out, but it still was a lot. He grades pretty easy and it's not hard to get an A. I liked most of the movies.
Great if you want to go in depth and know about cinema but if you're just taking for credit, he's doing too much. Class was shortened and there was so much work - 3 movies wk of thanksgiving. The assignments are tedious and some of the movies are outright weird. The papers are extremely long and he is very very strict on deadlines, tests are hard
It's a lot of lectures. It's honors, so I expected it to be harder than the other classes. There was a lot, because it wasn't a full semester, but he took some stuff out and he graded stuff pretty easy. If you do it all, it's not hard to get an A even if you don't do so good on the two tests. There's a lot of extra credit.
