Excellent teacher. Very clear about what he wants, and how you should go about doing it. Will continue to take classes with him.
Grimm is one of the best teachers I've taken. He is really funny and keeps you interested in the subject. His lectures were clear and his tests were not easy but not too difficult either. I am going to try to take other classes he teaches.
The greatest teacher in the psych dept. at WWU! Extremely helpful, entertaining lectures, keeps the class involved, provides study guides for exams, etc. etc. Overall, he is a great teacher and person! I STRONGLY recommend Dr. Grimm!

Great professor. Very clear and precise with his lectures and is not boring. I highly recommend Dr. Grimm. Don't let the name scare you! He is definitely one of the best professors in the psych department. Certainly knows his stuff.
Very clear and concise Lecture format. Exams very fair, all over material COVERED in CLASS. I would definitely take Professor Grimm again!
I had psysiological psych with Grimm at 8:30 in the morning, but he made his lectures so interesting that I could actually pay attention and learn. He kinda reminds me of a turtle. He is very entertaining and tries to relate all the material to everyday stuff. DON'T MISS CLASS
School board annoying, forced him to change his grading scales which now has irritated most of the class. Now to get grades, must perform above and beyond. Don't take at 8:30 in the morning, interesting lecture material, but a sleeper if tired. Good lecture style, odd stamping habit though.
Dr. Grimm is an awesome professor, if you get the chance to take him you should! He is very funny and teaches really intersting topics. Clear and fair. One of the best psych professors.
Fun professor. His tests are entirely from the class lectures. Use the book strictly as a supplement. His tests are relatively easier than most 200 psych classes.
Grimm is awesome. His tests are seriously taken from lecture and I'm taking the 8:30 class and even though it's early I love the class so much! He's hilarious and really cool, it's a great class
Prof Grimm is adorable adorable adorable! He's also funny, sweet, his tests are are reasonable, and makes the very complex brain easy to understand. I hope he teaches advanced level psych classes!
Lecture topics were easy and most test questions were taken from lecture. However the assignments for lab were poorly organized with lecture. Requirements were unclear and we often covered relevant material after assignments were already turned in. Students who work best in a well organized class may have a hard time.
Even though I ended up with a C- in the class, i DONT CARE because dr. grimm is the best professor in the entire world. It's my own fault, anyway. But he is very clear and informative and interesting and hilarious. I took it at 830 am and still loved every moment of the class. Highly reccomended, just COME to the lectures and study hard for exams!
This guy is the man! So funny! I loved this class!!!
Dr. Grimm literally changed my life. He took me from a confused sophmore to a successful student with hopes of pursuing a career similar to his. He helped me more than any other teacher I've experienced and his influence in my life has helped shape my career. Thank you Dr. Grimm for believing in me and for letting me work with you for all this time
Great class, great teacher, tests are easy and from the notes!
Class is easy only because his lectures are AWESOME. One of the best psych profs at Western, hands down. He has the ability to make you enjoy the class, and often has the entire lecture hall laughing out loud. The whole experience makes for easy memorization of the material. If this class interests you at all, he is the man to take it from. I cant say enough good things about this guy.
One of THE best profs I've had during my 4 years at Western. The class is by no means easy, but Grimm makes it interesting and fun. Test are very fair and lectures are never boring. You will get a lot of homework assignments through out the quarter, so be prepared; however, they aren't that horrible.
anatomy material is challenging but you can't help but like him - well organized lectures, tests are pretty fair but still challenging. really nice guy!!
He is a nice guy and you can really tell he likes what he is doing. His lectures are good because of his use of powerpoint. If you go to class every day and go over the study guide then your set. Yes I said Study Guide!
Incredible professor. One of my favourites ever! He is well organized and explains hard material in a very clear manner. You will need to work hard in the class but his test are fair and he makes it fun. Professor Grimm is hilarious.
I think professor grimm has spent so much time with lab rats that he's started to act like one! I love him though. He's a wonderful professor.
Hard material, but he is a great prof. Go to class and read the book if you need extra help but it is not necessary to read. All of his exam questions come from his lectures and quizzes! Take him.
The class was mostly power point, which was boring, but Professor Grimm is funny.
Great Prof..very clear about what to know for the 4 exams. Hands out study guides at the beginning of each new section. Copy his powerpoints word 4 word, this is the best material to study. Very nice guy, kinda corny but funny. The coloring book was kinda fun too. Tests are a little difficult due to anatomy info and terms. Great class!
I've had this professor for 220, 301 and 320. He is one of my favorite profs at western. He's very informative, and a great instructor. While his tests are generally pretty difficult, he cuts students breaks when grading papers. Definitely recommend!
take him..he's an awesome prof..go to class and take good notes b/c all the test questions come from lecture...no need to text book at all!!!
Grimm is a decent prof for this class. I would say that hes very knowledgeable but lacks in organization, presentation, & communication w/students. I can see why people think hes funny but I dont agree, lecture was pretty boring. Book & notes are a must. Exams are difficult then again im not a sci person, didnt know course is as sci based as it is.
Dr. Grimm is very clear, concise, funny, and super interesting. I always look forward to his class even though it is early in the morning. He is very easy to talk to and does a great job at relating to the students. You will not regret taking his class.
Dr. Grimm is fantastic! I tried to take this course with a different professor a while ago, and did so terribly that I had to withdraw. Taking this class with Dr. Grimm I got one of the highest grades in the class. He is funny, and presents this difficult subject matter in a way that is relatable and easy to understand. Take this prof!
HE IS GREAT!!!!!
He is GREAT best prof I've had at western yet, subject matter is tough but he makes it quite easy to understand, highly recommend him and PSY220. Need to go to class, all tests are based of lecture, I wouldn't even buy the book. Tests are rather challenging but not that bad if you study.
I would recommend taking Psy 301 from Grimm. I was worried about taking this class, but he made the sometimes difficult material palatable and clear. He is open and willing for extra help, does not over complicate material, and makes class entertaining. Excellent professor.
I had Dr. Grimm for 220 and 320. He's cute and funny in a nerdy sort of way. His tests are rather difficult, but if you're good at studying, you should be fine. He tests from the lecture more than anything. I highly recommend taking a class from him.
I had Grimm previously for 301 he was good for that too but you can really tell he is in his element in 220. Its a fun class, and his jokes make things even more enertaining.
Grimm keeps his lectures light and interesting. His tests are based solely off what he goes over in class, which is nice. Definitely recommend!
If you take Psych 220 take it with GRIMM, he is awesome, straight forward and if you attend class you will do fine on the tests. Very interesting!
Grimm is the best. I had him for 220, not I'm in 301 and have plans to take more classes from him. He's so awesome!!! super funny, knows his stuff really well, teaches it well and I really respect him! TAKE HIS CLASSES!!!!
301 is boring but Grimm makes class worthwhile with his sense of humor and cool attitude. Tests can be a tad tricky so even if the subject matter seems elementary, just brush up on it before tests. I love Grimm, he is adorable.
I love the Grimmster :) He's absolutely wonderful. He tells the best corny jokes and has the best hilarious analogies that really make things understandable.
I thought this class was going to be a cinch, but it did pick up slightly by the end in difficulty. He really wants you to know specifics about neurotransmitters and such. He is a ROCKIN' prof though, made the class something I actually looked forward to going to. I would DEFINITELY recommend him, just go to class (no powerpoints are posted on BB!)
This class is hard. His funny and light demeanor can fool one into thinking this class will be easy, but it's really hard. Tests are tricky- one must know very specific details about neurotransmitters, etc. His presentations aren't useful and he goes through them too slowly to learn anything.
Great professor! I was nervous to take this class but it was interesting and Dr. Grimm was extremely helpful. I would recommend taking it with him.
Dr. Grimm is a really nice guy and tries to make statistics humorous. However, his feedback on essays is lacking. Still, I would definitely recommend for the 300 stats classes. Also, textbook is almost NEVER used. I would not have bought the outrageously expensive book if I knew this.
Grimm was funny and upbeat, made class interesting. Tests are difficult, but A's aren't unattainable. Read text, take impeccable notes and memorize small details. Relatively easy B, tough A as there are a couple curve balls per test. Notes aren't posted online so one must attend lecture!
Excellent , straight forward
Professor is cheery, but his class is disorganized. His slides aren't all that helpful, and he skips around his slides. His exams are very hard. Didn't learn much from this professor. It's confusing what he wants from students on exams. Information on exams not in book or lecture.
Great class.
Dr. Grimm has a very nerdy kind of humor, but I can relate to humor like that so I find him to be very amusing! The tests are pretty difficult and require LOTS of specifics. Skipping this class is a really bad idea. He announces upcoming quizzes the first second of class and if you are late for the quizzes you can't take them. I think he's awesome!
Good sense of humor and very clear in his lectures. The tests aren't to difficult if you attend class and review your notes. I recommend going to every class because of quizzes that are not on the syllabus and in class writings.
This class was very easy considering the things I hear about 220 with other professors. His test questions were directly from his lectures so if you attend class and review your notes you will pass, even without looking at the book. Be prepared to attend class everyday not only for the notes but also for quizzes and in class writings.
Professor Grimm is very passionate about this subject and his sense of humor makes this class very easy to attend. Tests questions are exactly from lecture, and there are multiple in class writings and quizzes, so make sure to be there.
good overall very good.
I was dreading taking 301, but Dr. Grimm made the class enjoyable. He was very clear in his lectures and made sure everyone was understanding the material, not to mention he is hilarious. All exams were based on material he covered in class. I would highly recommend him for 301, and I'm sure he'd be a great professor in any class as well.
Dr. Grimm was amusing, personable, knowledgeable, and great at explaining concepts. I really enjoyed the class and thought he was an extremely fun professor.
Dr. Grimm makes lectures interesting and super straight forward. Go to class and take good notes and you will be just fine- his exams are based entirely off of lecture. His gives a lot of exams which makes the class pretty easy because there isn't a lot of material on the test. One of the best profs at Western!
Jeff is an AWESOME professor. He makes lectures very enjoyable with his humor, and gives you study guides that are super clear about what he will test on. I thought the tests and quizzes were easy, and he also brings in really good examples from his research. Would definitely recommend him, great person, great prof.
Awesome prof, but he goes on tangents so we didn't cover everything in the syllabus. Good news; if he doesn't get to it in lecture, it won't be on the exam! Slides aren't posted, but if you go to class the textbook isn't needed. 5 non-cumulative tests (including final) & 5 'pop' quizzes announced the class beforehand. Easy B, tricky to get an A.
Dr. Grimm is a good professor, just at times he's hard to understand and isn't totally clear. I felt, especially at the beginning of the course, that he expected everyone to have more of a background in brain anatomy than I had. Over all, very knowledgeable and interesting material, just a hard course.
Grimm is so awkwardly funny! He balances that lighthearted humor with his expertise- but the class itself can be pretty dry sometimes. Exam questions can be things from other sections, regardless of whether or not it was on the study guide. His slides aren't online, and he won't announce the quizzes online, only in class. Do the coloring early!
Dr. Grim is a great professor. He is hilarious and has passion for teaching. The class is pretty difficult, but Dr. Grimm does a pretty good job of clearing up a lot of confusion by putting the subject matter into easily understood analogies. Text is not necessary, but can be very helpful. Go to class! Tests are based mainly on lecture. Study hard!
I was nervous going into 301 because of it's reputation for being a difficult course, and while it was certainly not easy, Grimm made it much better than it could have been. He is HILARIOUS and does a good job keeping the lectures up-beat, is very happy to answer student questions, and always checks to make sure we understand before moving on.
Very weird guy. Really nice, but his lectures can go off on tangents and never really get back on track...
Jeff is one of my favorite professors at Western! He's so hilarious and his lectures and entertaining to learn about. His class isn't too hard until you reach about 2-3 weeks into the class and the reading isn't too heavy. I didn't read much for the first 3 tests and I got B's. But after those first 3 tests, it gets more difficult. Would recommend!
Dr. Grimm is super funny and definitely loves behavioral neuro. I barely touched the textbook but showed up to every single class and got As on all the tests, which are entirely lecture-based. Kind of awkward outside of class. Pro-tip: start the coloring book EARLY. If you leave it for the end of the quarter you're gonna have a real bad time.
This isn't the easiest class but Grimm is super funny and approachable. He doesn't post his slides and his exams are based on what he covers in class so if you make thorough notes it really helps. He'll often throw in a question about something that was only briefly mentioned so I found writing as much as possible down was helpful for the exams!
It's really evident that Grimm is super passionate about behavioral neuroscience! Neuro is definitely tough but Grimm really makes it really easy to understand. The tests are based off his lectures so as long as you show up you will be fine. I easily ended up with a B just by showing up and doing the coloring book.
Dr. Grimm is a great guy and a great teacher. The class itself i not what I expected- there is a lot about anatomy and the actual physical processes of the brain. Grimm does his best to explain each concept and is very open to questions and office hour appointments. Not too hard of a class. Show up to class cause pop-quizes are fairly common.
The class was not what I was expecting. For the most part I would say it's a biology class more than Psychology. The exams often included things not covered in lecture or textbook. His lecture slides have very little information so most of what he says is off the slide. I would recommend recording lectures.
This class was not what I expected at all. At first I was really interested in the bio part of it, but this was like taking half bio, half chem, with a little bit of psych thrown in. I don't necessarily think he is a bad professor, he just gets off on tangents pretty frequently. Also he is not aware of when students are getting him off topic.
Dr Grimm is a good person who knows the material and tries to make it interesting. Im not a science person and I had to work very hard to get an A in the class. Lectures are very monotonous, tests are kinda tough, lots of projects to do. It wasnt horrible or impossible, but it definitely wasnt a walk in the park either.
He may be quite awkward, but Dr. Grimm is hilarious and seems like a really sweet guy. His lectures may go on tangents, but it makes it all the more interesting, and his stories are often relating and helpful to the ideas he is explaining. The class itself on the other hand is quite difficult and I am grateful to scrape by with a passing grade.
Grimm is such a nice guy and made a difficult to grasp topic easier. I took neuro with another professor previously and got a D, the material was just flying by me. But I retook it with Grimm and completely understood everything and got a solid A. Great professor!
This is the hardest psych class I've taken in my major thus far. This prof is hilarious and such a sweet man and it pains me to say that this class was the worst class I've ever taken. Even the smallest things that he could talk about for a moment are expected knowledge in depth in the exams, which I've never got better than a D on.
I enjoyed having Jeff as my professor this quarter! He likes to crack little jokes and keep the class engaged because he understands that the curriculum for psy 301 can be tedious. Overall, he is one of the best professors for taking this class and is open to listening to students and what they need. HIGHLY recommend him for this class!
He doesn't post his slides online but lectures at a fair pace so you can write everything down. He makes funny random jokes in class and keeps it very entertaining. One of the assignments is a coloring book.
I think if I had taken this class with any other professor I would have failed. He takes a hard topic and makes it enjoyable to learn and does his best to make class entertaining. There are very few opportunities to get points other than tests and quizzes but he really tries to make sure everyone understands the lectures.
Grimm is a really funny guy, also very caring a knowledgeable. 10/10
not a great lecturer and only assignments are tests and quizzes with some points for the coloring book and research participation. he doesnt explain things very well but i think he thinks he does. if youre not good at science, i wouldnt recommend taking his neuroscience class. its just unorganized and not very well explained.
Professor Grimm's 220 course is the one that solidified my decision to major in Psychology. Do the coloring book in your spare time, keep the quizzes (the questions get recycled), just read the chapter and glance at your notes the night before the test. I didn't study one minute and I pulled a high B. I was genuinely excited to attend this class
Grimm expects much more of his 301 students than other professors do and requires a lot of effort. Also doesn't post slides unless there's a formula on it. Funny, nice guy that I really enjoyed as a person but I had friends in 303 that were struggling to help me with my assignments.
WORST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN. He just went on tangents all lecture long every day, it was never clear what u actually needed to know. THE WHOLE CLASS bombed the first exam and he just kind of said oh well and let everyone go on failing. He only puts exams in the grade book and the assignments are weighted differently so you never know your grade.
Class content was drier than I imagined possible for an upper level course, Grimm did not handle that gracefully. The lectures were tedious at times, presented conflicting information at others (tons of confusion between his material and the TAs). Desperately needs to rethink his approach, and maybe consider updating his slides every quarter
VERY tough class, not because of the content, but because of how disorganized Grimm is. He focuses on specific studies during lectures and goes on tangents so it's hard to pull out what is important. The exams include items that are not from lecture or the 3 textbooks. Theres an additional book you must read & write a paper on + a research project
Honestly my least favorite class I have ever taken. Over half of the questions on exams contained items not discussed in class. When confronted by several students, he could not pinpoint where he covered items. He had 3 textbooks we could choose from, but none were helpful. VERY dry lectures. Spare yourself the misery and do not take this class
Grimm made me work hard, not gonna lie. It wasn't easy. The classes were dense. Take lots of notes and go to class. Funny guy with a dry and corny sense of humor. He grades tough, but knows the stuff.
Grimm is awesome. He is funny and makes the material somewhat accessible. His lectures are clear and organized, and he tries to review as much as possible. The coloring book is fun and easy and gets you extra points. I was worried about taking BNS but he made it nice! The material is tough and the grading reflects that.
Dr. Grimm is a really nice guy, but his class makes me feel frustrated. The material is very easy, but the exams come off as very lazy or hastily written. They often have more than one interpretation or use scientific language improperly. They do not feel standardized for ESL or proofread. Lecture contains frivolous material but is mandatory.
Tests seemed lazily written and didn't always seem to align with lecture. Not graded by many things and the class doesn't have many points. He is a pretty nice guy, but I think his teaching just wasn't for me. Very boring monotone lectures to watch. The class wasn't too hard as long as you put in some study time.
Neuroscience is a difficult subject. I knew that going into the class. Dr. Grimm makes it understandable. He takes complicated material and translates it into ways even my parents can understand. They could hear his lectures this quarter because of the online Covid time. Dr. Grimm also spent a lot of time helping me during office hours.
Grimm is the best for 220! The class was not easy by any means, don't get me wrong. What I liked was Grimm made complicated parts of the textbook understandable. The pre-recorded lectures were available for me to listen to at a faster time while at work. He was always there for office hours and willing to answer questions in ways I could understand
Grades harsh, unforgiving of mistakes, not a professor you want during a global pandemic
Psy 220 is not an easy class especially with professor Grimm. The tests are multiple choice and short answer. I was a couple of points away from a B- and Grimm wouldn't braise my grade. Oh well. There is a lot of reading if you want to do well. Grimm is easy to talk to during office hours and class. Nice guy but a tough grader.
Weird skewed grading scale (90.7 for an A-) and he won't round any grades. Real cool dude.
I really enjoyed Dr Grimm's class. It was a challenging class because there is a lot of material to cover. He made the class interesting and light hearted with his dad jokes. Overall I liked this class but would pair it with easier classes if I would have known how much content there was to cover. Solid choice for a professor.
This class is about basic statistics using R. It is not the most fun, but Dr. Grimm does a really good job making it easy to know what to do and how to do it. He is always willing to meet for office hours and answer any questions not matter how they sound. I feel comfortable asking him questions. Great prof and easy to work with.
Jeff is a very knowledgable person but NOT fit for teaching. The tests are the only way you can get your grade up. There are a few assignments and quizzes besides the tests but won't help your grade because the tests dominate them. So if you don't do well on the tests you're screwed. He doesn't give extra credit and I urge you to not choose him.
the dude is a funny guy but his lecture material does not relate to the test at all. your grade is mostly dependent on 4 main exams and quizzes. the study guide is a list of words and is not helpful at all. he rambles a lot in lectures and makes it hard to pay attention and decipher what is important and what is not.
Dr. Grimm is easily one of the most unorganized professors I have had at WWU. He does not post any lecture notes online, rambles about things unrelated to the class during most of the lectures anyway, and we never cover what we need to go over in class. Study guides don't prepare you whatsoever. One bag exam grade and you're screwed for the quarter
Dr. Grimm is hilarious and knows his stuff! The class is difficult, like all the psych220s. Neuroscience is hard. Period. We didn't know there would be extra credit, but there is, wonk wonk!
He's a nice guy but the course felt very unorganized. Rambles a lot in class. Doesn't post lectures slides or make it clear which book chapters align with what we're learning. A lot of content on the exams that wasn't mentioned in class or the study guide. Harsh grading scale. Average for the first exam was a D+ which is concerning...
likable guy who clearly cares about neuroscience and responds to emails. HW grading is laid back (there's not much though). But the exams are BRUTAL. Study material and lectures are unorganized. Some questions we were told wouldn't be on the exam, or weren't even taught. Grades are also scaled up (C- is a 70.7) making it that much harder.
Dr. Grimm is funny, always cracking jokes. He can be a bit monotone which can make it hard to pay attention, but he always answers questions to the best of his ability. Technically attendance isn't mandatory and he repeats a lot of what's in the book, but he expands on it enough that you will miss a lot if you miss class. I learned a lot from him.
This was easily one of the worst classes I have taken. Tests are weighed heavily on your final grade, so your grade will suffer if you don't do well on them. I studied very hard and the test questions were tricky. Lectures did not feel engaging and I had to relearn everything myself. I felt like I could have done better with a different professor.
As much as I liked Jeff Grimm as a person, his teaching was not great. His slides were not informative or helpful. In addition, his lectures did not line up well with the heavy exams. When studying the study guides, I found that they were not helpful & did not end up doing that well on the tests.
Dr. Grimm is a good guy, but it was hard to pay attention in class. The course material was very interesting, but the lectures were not particularly engaging (surely due in part to it being a large lecture class). Also, he assigns a coloring book that represents 12+ hours of busy work throughout the quarter. Not a bad class, but not my favorite.
Took 323 (Psychopharmacology) with him. Dr. Grimm is the best professor to take Psychopharm with. He explains everything in detail and does not make us read the entire textbook. There are some exams, and a short (~15 min) presentation that you do. He tells funny stories and makes dad jokes too. Great prof! I would take another class from him :)
Prof. Grimm is an engaging lecturer, but his teaching style and exams can be unorganized. While the course content is interesting, the heavy emphasis on exams makes it challenging. unstuck ai and the textbook helped me keep up with the material.
I like Dr. Grimm and the idea of this class, but it is not built well for psychology students that lack a chemistry background or the background that most BNS students have. I really struggled and there was no feedback or help, something I wish I would have had. He's nice and loves what he does, but I was often left in tears trying to understand.
