Dr.Hanson's class was an okay class, but beware of the tests. The homework is easy and the class examples also easy. His tests were always on the tougher problems in the chapter
Hes awesome at teaching! Make the material very easy but his tests are killers ! Gives extra credit if class is doing Bad. Home is a must, asks to do 80% or more. YoU get extra points for doing ur homework more than 80%.
Took him for statics. He doesn't really teach anything in the 50 minute classroom session. Class always starts about 5-10 minutes later and he lets you out 5-10 minutes before. The rest of the time, he does maybe 2-3 examples and they are very easy. The test are hard! If I were you, I would do most of the fundamental problems on all chapter
Homeworks aren't very time consuming and class gets let out early often. The tests are much harder than many of the example problems so make sure to ask him to work a couple of complex problems in class before the test. He is an entertaining guy so class is never dull.
Hanson is not so bad, to say the least! You must do the homework every night after class because he will surprise you with a random quiz either Wednesday or Friday or right after he's done teaching the material! Do the hard problems in the book because those are the ones he will put on the test. You will learn though.
A really superb instructor that will break down the material so that it is easy to understand. Tests are pretty tricky so alway stay on top of the material. You need to be smart or hard working to get an A from him-- but you need not be both.
Really good guy. He will help you out as much as you want to try. You can't give half effort and do well, but if you are willing to do some work he will help you all he can. I have had 2 different classes with him and he offered extra credit both times. Good guy.
Hanson is a great engineering professor and an even better man. He clearly cares about his students(or at least the ones who put in the work) and is a great role model. He also has a great sense of humor, which makes class fun as well. I would highly recommend taking any of his courses.
Dr. Hanson is an amazing professor. He expects a lot from his students, but he will explain everything that needs to be done. He teaches everything that you need to learn and is very approachable. I recommend him over any other professor for Statics.
Jeff Hanson is by far the best Statics teacher in the ME department. My friends that were taking other sections with different teachers would skip their classes to go to Hanson's lecture. He is very engaging with the class so you're forced to learn and be on your toes. He is very clear in the way he teaches and very helpful if you have a question.
Hanson is one of my favorite professors. He really cares about his students and is by far the best Statics professor at Tech. DO NOT SKIP. He will know. He will call you out, and you will be behind. He is very clear and easy to understand in his teaching method.
He clearly solves problems in class and has clever ways for you to remember concepts. He'll call you out so be on your toes (It helps to have rehearsed witty comebacks). Hanson, if you're reading this, dope class, bro.
This class was hard but he made it enjoyable. The homework can be tough but has his own sessions to help with and he posts them online if you can't attend. During class, he is very funny and has lots of witty remarks. Attend class. If you don't, you will get behind as the class moves fast. Tests are hard. Recommend doing problems out of the book.
He is an awesome teacher and does everything he can to help students understand the material. If you have a chance to take him get in his class.
Explains things clearly and openly takes questions and will clarify until you understand.
By far the best professor I have ever taken in my whole education life. He is funny and makes sure you understand the concept well. He even has an additional session outside class hours to help those who need help in homework or need clarification. If I were you, I would go for him with no hesitation.
Dr. Hanson is the reason that I am still an Engineering major. He is the professor to take. The material is not easy, but he keeps his lectures fun with jokes. He cares that students understand the material. Lots of homework, but is great practice for the exams JUST DONT USE CHEGG. You get out what you put in. Study hard and you will be fine.
Amazing professor, and he really cares about you. Best Mechanical Engineering prof you will EVER have
Hanson is an awesome teacher and will help out your grade if he knows you've been working hard. Go to his office hours and work as many problems from the book as you can. The pop quizzes are pretty terrible so make sure you are constantly studying because those quizzes can make or break your grade.
Hanson hands down is the best professor for Statics. He explains everything he does and always has his door open for his office hours. He will call you out to answer questions in class and remember your name. Once you are his student you are always his student.
Unparalleled professor; exhibits interest in student success, chief understanding of material, and enthusiasm in instruction. If, while taking his course, you fail, understand it is a consequence of your own making.
Great teacher! Makes learning statics so easy.
Had I known Hanson taught Statics and had I known Hanson is the bomb-A professor...I would have never left TTU. If you are in some other engineering major and want to give up--give ME a try. Hanson will restore your faith in a seemingly impossible engineering classes
Have you ever wanted to take a class taught by the dad from your elementary school soccer games who would yell at all the players? Look no further! Class was kept lively by his jokes, but he clearly didn't care about the subject matter. Comically easy, but it was a summer class in a easy subject. NOTE: He is apparently much different in ME classes.
Explains in detail of the course. Very funny and friendly. Helps with any kind of problems in his office hours.
Dr. Hanson's YouTube videos for Statics were excellent! He got right into the theory, portrayed the examples for maximum comprehension, and he did make it funny, especially the Mickey Mouse "MNV" melody for shear and bending moments! My only critique of the videos: They're not the best for doing hard problems, but other than that, perfection!
I don't go to Texas Tech. I'm a ME major at Rutgers in NJ who had a terrible professor for Statics. I stumbled upon Dr. Hanson's Youtube series on Statics, which not only proved to be THE best lecture videos on the internet, but was the reason I passed my class. I emailed him to thank him, and the legend responded. A gentleman and one helluva prof.
He is one of the best engineering lecturer on youtube. He makes learning fun.
I didn't enjoy his lectures as much as I thought I would. He likes to make fun of students that don't understand whats going on so it makes it uncomfortable to ask questions sometimes. His youtube videos are helpful but they aren't enough to fully prepare you for exams. Be sure to do as many practice problems as you can cause the exams are hard.
He is the best statics teacher but you will have to study every day. He gives quizzes all the time. If youre not willing to put in a lot of work, dont take his class. He says everything is easy all the time and can be pretty rude occasionally. He definitely plays favorites. Unless youre a goody two shoe who sits in the front row, good luck
This angel is the best materials professor in the world. His youtube series saved my grade in mechanics of materials. I wish every professor could be this simple and easy to understand
If you can't get into his class because its full at registration, i'd honestly say don't take the class till you can. Statics builds into dynamics and other high level ME courses so a strong background is key. He is by far the best professor I've had at Texas Tech, sit in the front of class pay attention and you will get succeed.
I heard so many good things about Dr. Hanson's lecture classes. I have no doubt he is a good lecturer, but do not take him for design 1. He expects your ideas to match his ideas exactly. Mini projects, and assignments on top of main design project. A ton of work. Rips you to shreds on your presentations (not just me.) You've been warned.
I don't have to say much to convince you to take Hanson. It is not an easy A and he is a firm believer in "you earn your grade." GO TO THE SI SESSIONS! Go to class so you do not miss pop quizzes. Hanson is hilarious and has perfected his methods of teaching. Does not curve. If you show you want to learn and work hard you can definitely succeed.
His YouTube tutorials are unparalleled and surpass the teaching efforts of my Texas A&M statics professor (I am learning statics via HIS channel, NOT by my actual professor!!!) . If you have the opportunity to learn from this man in person, absolutely take it. He thoroughly explains problems and common pitfalls and does so enthusiastically.
Don't take anything he says to heart believe me I got picked on 90% of the time in his class! he cares I promise. you have to work for your grade! get an A on the first three exams and you don't take a final! GO TO SI!!!!!!!!!!!!!! even if you don't need extra instruction the practice problems help! needs 8-10 hrs/ week study time (atleast for me)
Hands down one of the best professors in the world! He cares a lot about his students and loves to make jokes and pick on his students. Super cool and intelligent - he went to breakfast w/ us a few mornings after class. He knows the material like the back of his hand, he even has a youtube acct with his lectures. The best engineering prof at TTU!
Hanson is literally the best professor ever I love him so much. He gives a lot of extra credit and he is clear about how the grading works. Make sure you do the homework because that is what screwed me out of an A. . He knows what he's talking about so ask questions. He will make fun of you but just take it and joke back.
Best Prof with great YouTube videos!
Hanson is great! Super funny and gives real world examples to relate to. Gets the best projects for Design. Super helpful to, just have to do the work and not slack off. Helps keep you on track with your projects and helps you get whatever you need to be successful.
Mechanics of Solids has one of the highest failing rates in my University. It was because I watched his entire lecture videos that I was able to pull out a solid B. The way he explains the concepts and how he develops every problem, will help you go through that very hard subject. Watch his videos.
Phenomenal lectures
Great lectures!
I'm actually at Texas A&M but I watch his instructional videos/lectures on youtube and they're amazing! He helped me so much more than my actual professor ever did and I attended every lecture.
He is easily the greatest professor I have taken at Texas Tech. The classes I took him for were classes I had to retake and he made it so much easier to understand. He really cares about all of his students, even if you don't show an effort at first. He doesn't hand out points. If you go to class he will teach you how to do everything.
Dr. Hanson is the best kind of professor one can have. He cares for his students and interacts a lot with them. Self study, using his videos, is the best way out. There's extra credits in the end so you can always pull your grade up after exam 2.
Great guy and an even greater instructor
Dont go to Tech but I use his lecture videos to learn because my professor isnt good. Best professor in all of mechanical engineering.
he's dope and has a youtube channel that saved other students lives
Don't go to TT, but use his videos all the time! They're great and he explains everything so well. Would love to see more!
the GOAT. No other way to say it.
He is great. I never got the chance to take an actual class with him, but his online lectures have saved me in both statics and solids compared to my bad professor. Great lectures, made me love physics again. One of the best professors ever.
Awesome videos on his youtube. I really appreciate the dedication that this guy has to engineering.
Hanson is an amazing professor for ME2301! You have to work for your grade but his online videos for every chapter really help. Do lots of practice problems from the textbook to practice for exams. He is always ready to help students out who come to his office and is quite hilarious. Wish he taught every engineering course at Tech
Hanson is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Take this class only with him, he really cares about his students and is very accessible outside of class. His videos and review sessions are very helpful. I will definitely take his classes again. 10/10 recommend.
Hanson is one of the few professors who actually gives me hope for Tech. While the ME department is full of professors who should never be allowed to teach a class, Hanson carries them all. Whether it's his Youtube videos or just having an open door at his office, he makes it clear that he cares about everyones success.
He's the GOAT. Long live King Jeff!
Great professor and even better person. His lectures are enjoyable even though I was horrible at the class.
Jeff seems like a great guy, but I am not convinced he gives a damn about his students. I've never had a less transparent professor when it comes to exams. Review is easy... then for the midterms he goes back 8 editions in our book and finds the hardest problems he can for each concept. No curve no matter what.
Yall I dont go to texas tech. Ive never even been near texas tech before. But this man is one of the greatest professors ever. I found his Youtube series for statics last semester and while my own prof was horrible and I understoof nothing, watching jeff's videos made statics easier than I ever thought possible
I found this professor on YouTube while I was an engineering student and WOW, changed the course of my future! I am forever thankful. He teaches the material ways that are easy to understand and follow. He has neat ways to remember equations and rules. I still go back to his videos, even after graduation to refresh my analytical skills. AWESOME!
I'm from Pakistan. This professor is my life support. Our professor in Pakistan used to bunk classes and used to finish the coursework a week before mids and finals. He made our life hell. Whereas professor Jeff has been a blessing. I'll be forever grateful to him for getting us through Engineering Statics.
His Youtube videos are amazing. This man will give you everything you need to understand. If you want to understand statics, take his course or at least watch his youtube videos.
Dr. Hanson is a great professor. Besides his great lectures, he also has a Youtube channel with Statics and Solids on it. This Youtube channel is very useful even if you cannot get into his Solids class. This class is the heaviest workload class that I've ever taken, but it has been very fun with Hanson.
I'm and Iowa State student and Jeff is the best professor I've ever had. Was at an F in statics before I discovered his lectures. I've gotten an average of 82% since then.
Explains engineering mechanics at a very understandable level
Jeff is the best prof I've ever had, must take him!!!
I love this man. I go to him for more than just statics now, if I have questions about my career or life in general, I will ask Hanson. I'm excited to take him for solids and material science.
Best professor you can get, Hanson is a great professor and makes going to class easy. I learned so much from him.
Take him if you can. Seriously. He's really passionate about teaching and really wants students to succeed. Hardest part of the class is the tests, and some of them he doesn't write. Go to his office hours, always participate in class. Don't be afraid to approach him, it'll seriously help. Go to SI sessions if you can.
Dr. Hanson is a great teacher. However, the exams are near-impossible. There will be 2 or 3 kids in the class that totally understand how to take his tests, but knowing what he teaches you in class (and doing the homework) does not help on the exams one bit. You have to learn to think like him. I am taking him again next semester, but beware!
Jeff Hanson is an amazing and caring professor. Meet him outside of class if you can, he's a great dude. Go to his office hours and the SI sessions, they help a lot. All the Statics tests are the same for all the classes, so make sure you have the best teacher. The tests are stupidly hard, but all the professors are a part of that. Hanson is a gem.
Hands down the best prof I've ever had!
He is nationally known as an amazing teacher. He truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. However, his material is undeniably hard. If you don't study hard, you won't pass.
Great YouTube channel for extra online help. Besides that read other reviews you can see how great he his. Whenever his name pops up for a class to take, TAKE HIM.
The BEST professor at Texas tech. Makes solids easy to understand. However he expects you to know statics.
You must really try if you want to fail his class Such a fantastic professor. The way he teaches, even a 12 y/o would be able to understand and when he does teach you will clearly understand your own knowledge and if you need to go back and review things. The best teachers I personally have had my whole life.
Currently taking him for statics I chose him because he has a reputation of amazing teaching. Which I agree but his test and quizzes are extremely hard. Sucks because 1st test went horrible for me and class. This class is nothing like any other class Ive taken. Ill do my best even if he wants to fail everyone on exams. Seems like he makes it harder
I do not attend Texas Tech. I have used his videos for my engineering classes at my college to learn the material. If I could attend Texas Tech, I would take all my engineering classes with Dr. Hansen. He makes hard content seem easy to understand. To all at Tech looking that see this review, take his engineering classes. I would if I could!!
Anyone who tells you not to take Hanson for statics because he's "unfair" or "too hard" is trying to make you have to retake statics. Hanson is one of the best profs at TTU and the reason so many people fail his class isn't because its too hard, its because they don't try hard enough. Pay attention, do the work, taking another prof won't be easier.
This is my 2nd time taking him the first time is didn't go well 60% of class failed he told us this just didn't want it to happen again. This semester he made test more doable I remember getting a 30 last semester on TEST #1 and a 92 this semester. He does extra credit stuff which is so worth doing. He is funny and just a awesome guy. Take him.
Hanson is good, but a bit overrated. He teaches a very recipe-book way of solving problems, which he reiterates a lot. It mostly works, but some of the mnemonics are bizarre enough to be confusing and hard to remember. Main issue is that the quizzes are very hard but a ton of people just cheat on them with Chegg, which I found extremely frustrating
Dr.Hanson is the best, he really does care about his students and their success, & treats their success as his own. He gives his personal phone #, always has his door open, and will do anything to get you the help you need as long as you ask. He won't sugarcoat anything, and that could rub people the wrong way, but if you want it you will get an A.
Hanson's reputation is absolutely true - he is difficult. However, he makes sure that every student in his class is 100% prepared for their upcoming classes. He is knowlegable about both statics and the engineering world in general, you just have to be willing to go to his office hours and talk to him. Overall, a super personable guy.
Hanson is a great guy and will teach you how to solve problems to score points on an exam but not necessarily the true core of the concepts and the meaning of them which is needed for actual engineering. Lots of memorizing rules without knowing why. Good amount of homework, weekly quizzes that are harder than the exam problems.
This guy is great. He is probably one of the best solids professors teaching currently. AMAZING lectures, and pehnomenal teacher, but because of this his tests are pretty tricky. However, I believe if you can PASS with hanson, you'll know more content better than someone else who passed with another professor. Also, super engaging and fun lectures.
Didn't take his class, don't go to his school, but lord have mercy he is the best to ever do it, If i graduate I owe this man my degree amen.
Dr. Hanson is quite literally the only reason I've made it this far in engineering. His youtube videos are incredibly easy to understand and he is super funny. He is basically like if the organic chemistry tutor was even cooler! I LOVE YOU JEFF!
Hes a great teacher but his exams are made way harder than they need to be to the point where having a good understanding of the material isnt enough cause theyre literally designed to trick you. I would take someone else and just use his youtube videos, which are also very good.
He is a fantastic professor. Dr. Hanson teaches people around the world through his YouTube channel. When you take his class, get the Hanson book and work through the practice problems before all exams. Practice helps with all the questions. He helped me understand the world around me a lot more. If you can, please take him 10/10 professor!
Awesome professor, his lectures are really fun, and makes statics much easier. He grades tests a little tough, and there are weekly quizzes, but there's extra credit opportunities for both that really help. Worst thing for sure was the amount of homework, but it's not weighted too heavy. Again, a great professor who cares about his students.
Hanson is amazing!! Even though he doesn't take attendance, he takes the time to learn everyone's name and actually cares if you show up. Plus, his lectures make you want to show up! He's a tough grader, and the class is hard, but you will ACTUALLY learn. 2 homeworks and 1 quiz per week. I would take Hanson for all my ME classes if I could.
Good professor
The best professor at texas tech by far always available to help when he is in his office explains concepts in fun and silly ways that are easy to memorize and his youtube has helped me through three classes.
I LOVE YOU
He's ok. You will actually learn the material since you literally have to in order to somewhat pass. Exams are very hard and if you fail 1, good luck passing the class. He did yell at a student for having a headphone in during his lecture which made me lose all respect for the dude since she was actively participating. He grades insanely hard.
Jeff hanson is the goat
He mostly teaches out of his own "optional textbook" not the textbook our homework, quizzes or exam questions are based off of. In the approximately 80 minute lecture he normally only cover 1-2 example problems out of his own textbook and rarely one out of the mandatory textbook for the class. He has a decent YouTube channel though.
HE IS THE GOAT, i'm from UTSA but this mans videos are the reason i comprehend statics as well as i do.
I didn't take his course specifically because it was full, but I learned the entirety of Statics using his YouTube lectures, they are phenomenal!
I took him twice for the summer for solids , if would have know he was the professor for the summer again I wouldn't have taken him. He does responds to emails and he get upset if you don't show up to class. He also has favorites in the class. He teaches good but his exams are super hard. Also doesn't curve I got a 45 which was the highest grade.
I took Hanson for statics last semester and I honestly can say he is the best professor. I got a 92% on the first exam, 88% on the second and 72% on the third. If you got an A before the final, you didn't have to take it. He cold-calls in class but if you just pay attention and GO TO CLASS, you will not fail and you will be set for solids and so on
I watch his Youtube, he's the best prof for solids out there.
