interesting to listen to
Encourages class discussion as much as possible in 90+ size class. Cool guy, knows his stuff, but powerpoint presentations are usually brief outlines of textbook. Has lots to say about some chapters, but nothing about others, which is confusing sometimes.
Very nice guy. The class does require you to pay attention to some extent but he keeps things interesting.
He's a funny guy. Hey, he gave us jolly ranchers on Halloween in a class of 150...props for that. The class requires some thought but it's not boring stuff...there's just alot to cover but you'll find that in any psych class...he just makes it relevant
really cool. Nice guy, clear about what will be on tests. Explains everything well and shows examples from real movies about psychological behavior to help understand. I would take him again if I could.
He's really cool. Young guy that uses mainstream movies in class as examples from time to time. If you pay attention/take notes in his class you won't ever have to open the book. Very friendly and forgiving when grading tests.
Great psych teacher. His lectures are very well organized, and he doesn't jump around a lot so note taking is much more linear and makes studying notes later much easier. Good sense of humor, good engery. He makes learning FUN!
He's fun, and makes class interesting
he's sweet
Professor Holmes is a great teacher. He is funny, and moves the class along at a good pace. He also takes the time to answer any questions that students may have. In addition, he offers extra credit. I highly recommend taking a class with him.
Definitely fun, and a cool guy, but maybe too easy. Makes some concepts seem simpler than they really are, and only work you do is tests. I don't remember much of what I learned in class.
Huge Lecture, Great guy, worth getting to know! I didn't like the subject but I always went to class!
Excellent! Very energetic. Keeps lectures moving and is very organized. Extremely helpful when you have questions or problems. Overall, a great, fun guy!
he is very clear and understandable and fun to learn from
I had him twice, the classes are sorta the same... but it's easy, and if you pay attention, you are set. He cares for the class. Highly recommended!
he's a great teacher. he has hundreds of students a year, but he will still find time to help you if you need it.
Jeff is a nice professor...he is entertaining but the material is a bit more complex then he makes it seem. Your only grades are tests and looking back, I do not remember very much of the material
Very amusing and fun.
His classes are definitely worth taking. He teaches so well and he is so forgiving. I slept through one of the exams but he gave the test to me. Not all the professors do that. He asks the parts he taught in class, you don't even have to read anything. Just listen and you will be fine on his tests.
He's very helpful. Great examples. Animated. His class is fun. He's very clear. He only gives a few tests- none cumulative- and they are fair as well.
A good professor overall. Clear, precise and fun.
Jeff is very cool, he's young, and he really just wants people to get interested in psychology, and do well. Constantly available even when it's not office hours, and is in general a really great guy
Jeff is the friggin man. he always matches the color of the shirt he is wearing...but dont let the paleness confuse you, he is funny. good guy...tkae his classes.
AWESOME
Very humorous and easy to listen to. Makes class fun. Not concerned with attendance, and basically follows the outline of the book - sleep in. Does very well considering that he is new and teaches an intro course. One of my favorite professors.
He is just an awesome teacher!!!
Love him!
Wonderful teacher... my major required I take a few of his classes and I was dreading it...but I ended up finding the classes to be interesting and painless!
This guy is great, one of the best teachers ive had
He makes boring stuff interesting - a very important quality in a professor. He is obviously invested in his students and wants them to learn. He's also a cutie...
Great teacher, all around. Everyone I've talked to likes him.
jeff is a really nice guy and you can tell he really enjoys teaching and cares about his students. all you have to do is go to class and read and you will do well. i have really enjoyed taking his class.
Nothing bad to say about Jeff, really. But you should understand that this class isn't an easy A. You'll need to go to class and pay attention to what he says, and read the book at least a week before each exam. Cramming the night before doesn't work. Take advantage of the extra credit. No attendance taken, but skipping class is a very bad idea.
His class is awsome he is one of the coolest teachers i have had. His class is hard but totally worth it you learn alot and if you ever nees help all you need to do is ask and he most defenetly will help you.
Jeff is a really great guy, he uses great examples and is funny and laid back. He knows what he's talking about. Tests are relatively easy if you read the text and attend class. No homework or attendance. Take this class
jeff is a great prof. makes an effort to make class humerous and interesting. Engages students and makes an effort to learn your name. i only read the first few chaps in the text then realized that as long as i showed up to class and studied my notes for exams i did fine. A in the class without that much effort. great guy, good class.
He is nice but terrible at teaching.
AWESOME! Jeff is the funniest professor I've ever had. So entertaining and whenever something is unclear he is willing to go over it until you understand. Lots of basic memorization to do well on his tests. Gen Psych and Gen Psych lab were great w/ him. Looking forward to taking other classes in the future w/ Jeff.
JEFF IS AMAZING. Best professor at Ithaca College. His class goes by so fast because he is so funny and tries to make everything every relatable. He is awesome, try to get in a class of his ASAP because he is the best. An awesome guy inside and outside of the classroom.
Nicest guy ever! and he tells a bunch of cute stories about his daughter.
LOVED THIS GUY! He's easy going, offers extra credit , and gives you every chance to get a good grade. Attendance wasn't mandatory but coming to class made test prep sooo much easier, but it was also nice that missing a few classes wouldn't kill your grade either. He makes classses interesting too, I never even fell asleep! He's a great guy!
Holmes is awesome! I had him for General Psych. He makes the class interesting with his corny jokes and he has clear powerpoints with interesting videos. His tests are fair and sometimes he even gives points back if the majority of the class gets a question wrong. He is really helpful outside of class too.
Had him for general psych and intro to research in psych.. great professor and guy. Very interested in material and makes class interesting. Very nice guy!
Although both the classes I took with him were covering painfully dry material, Professor Holmes managed to create interesting lectures that conveyed the information clearly and made the tests easier than they might have been with another professor, but his project assignments tend to be kind of fuzzy and difficult.
Holmes is a very good professor. His tests are pretty fair and he makes sure that everyone understands the material. If you don't do well in his class, it's your fault for not asking for help. Holmes always asks "Is everyone okay with this". He's funny and makes class interesting. I recommend him!
Holmes is a very awesome professor. He is always enthusiastic in lecture and is constantly trying to keep students interested and motivated. Also, he shows a good amount of video clips and does activities that help make learning the material more fun.
super easy to understand, clearly cares about students and is great at answering questions
Holmes is the man! So straight forward and totally down to earth. One of the best professors I've had at IC.
Great teacher! Tests are hard, but if you go to his classes and study the book, you'll do fine. He's extremely likable, and uses his kids' stories to help us learn. Awesome guy!
Jeff is an amazing professor and I loved his class, but I'm going to be honest, I posted this rating to give him the chili pepper because I think his adorableness is underappreciated.
Jeff's lectures are really great to listen to and he makes it easy for you to understand the content in the class. Be cautious though because although you may think you know it all, there's a lot in the textbook you need to learn on your own. His tests are worded kind of tricky but they're not impossible.
Great prof
So nice, but salty when you don't show up to the lectures and honestly, the lectures are how to succeed. He's a gem.
Jeff was a really awesome professor. He was kinda awkward to talk to, and definitely didn't know my name. However, I really enjoyed taking his class even though it has nothing to do with my major.
Jeff Holmes is an absolute gem of a person. He is one of the best professors at Ithaca in the psych department. A lot of people believe his Abnormal class can be hard but if you occasionally brush up on the text and actually listen to what he says, the tests are extremely straightforward. He's also just a great person to go and talk to.
Jeff has such an engaging way to approach lectures. It's not hard at all to focus during class and I actually enjoyed listening to him talk for an hour.
Super great teacher!
He makes the subject more interesting with his lectures! He really cares about every single student. I wish I would had asked for help sooner rather than later. DO NOT MISS CLASS! Yes the textbook helps but the way he lays out the material in class is what appears on the test most of the time. Great professor overall!
Great professor! Although his classes are extremely hard, its really helpful when it comes to majoring in psychology. His exams are really hard but you need to take great notes. Ask questions and use your resources, he's also really funny.
All tests were scantron with some short answer questions. Very nice guy and super willing to answer questions outside of class.
Jeff is an amazing guy, hes hilarious and Ive never zoned out once during a lecture. Not an easy A but its well worth it to take a class with Holmes. Genuinely good guy, always willing to help.
Not too hard to do well. You have to read the textbook. Your grade is made up completely of the five tests you take over the semester.
Psych 101 with Jeff was my favorite class back in freshman year. Jeff is such a darling, always there for his students with a caring and positive attitude. He's obviously passionate about what he teaches. I only received a C+ because of personal troubles that semester but with regular work and reading I could have gotten an A. Highly recommend.
There is no one I know who doesn't love Jeff Holmes. He made general psych, and then abnormal psych, extremely interesting. He engaged everybody and easily sparked interest in every subject. The one thing I found hard was the tests. I'm not a good test taker, and all of the grades were tests and quizzes. Despite this, I'm taking PSYC309 with him.
This is the third class I have taken with Jeff. I literally fight to get into his classes. Yes, he is that good. Everybody I know who knows him loves him. Don't expect him to be easy, but he will ALWAYS be interesting and caring. He wants everyone to pass, and if you ask for help, he WILL make sure you succeed.
I took abnormal with Jeff, and even though I was going through some personal struggles that semester, I still enjoyed it a lot. Jeff is fast-paced, so be prepared. But don't get too anxious; he makes up for it by actually engaging you with the topic, and actually talks WITH you about it. He's very good; you'll really enjoy class with him.
Jeff Holmes was by far the best professor I have had this semester. Given that classes are all remote, Jeff has tried to make the best of the situation and cares deeply about each of his students. His lectures are the only thing I look forward to every week. One of a kind guy and would recommend any class he teaches!
I really enjoyed Holmes, he's super nice and really funny. My main pain was that he didn't put assignments and tests on the syllabus but he gave lots of announcements regarding them. So it was fine. Really interesting information, especially the legal cases
Homework is not hard but there is a good amount of it with many Quizzes/Exams. (4 exams + roughly 8 Quizzes). It is not hard to get an A in the class as long as you do the 3-2-1's (which took me about 10 mins each time), Quizzes (when they open), and study for the exams. Jeff is really kind and engaging and really wants you to do well.
All tests were online but he made the final extra hard. I had an A in the class until I took the final. Not happy with the class
Jeff is great. Class is easy, but the majority of your grade comes from exam performance, so def read the textbook. Jeff tends to generalize psych trends to simplify concepts but sacrifices valuable different topics, perspectives, and theories as a result. There's a lot we missed out on for the sake of simplicity. Overall good though, learned a lot
Jeff was the best professor Ive had at Ithaca yet. He is very knowledgeable about psych, and gives personal, and interesting examples. If you are bad at tests like me It might be hard to get a good grade considering its based on 5 exams, and 5 quizzes. But, if you read the text book you will do good. I highly recommend this class!
Absolutely LOVE Jeff. Have had him before but have him again for Methods of Testing and Assessment. Really wants you to do well and succeed. Definitely worth talking to him during office hours as he's got a great personality both in and outside of class. Exams can be hard though so it's important to study.
Jeff is an ok teacher and class was the same. The exams have things that aren't in the textbook and are not talked about in class. Your grade is mostly formed by exam performance.
I took his general psychology class in the first semester of my freshman year (fall 2022) and I just loved it so much. Dr. Holmes has Spencer from ICarly energy and a funny, quick wit. His lectures are so engaging and informative. I wish I could have a course with him every semester. You can tell he respects his students and loves what he does.
I love Jeff. Amazing teacher and I would take again. Such good lectures and he will always talk outside of classes about anything you're worried about.
Professor Holmes is an excellent teacher. His lectures are engaging, and he communicates information very clearly in a way that helps you remember. There is not much homework and it is not difficult. Still, the material is challenging enough to make for an engaging experience. It is very rewarding to participate in lecture.
The lectures are very fun and engaging. Professor Jeff gives a fair amount of time to prepare for tests and complete homework. He's one of the best professors I've had so far, and he's great at what he does. I would definitely take his class again.
I would 100% take him again, it was my first Psych class and I loved it.
Jeff is a great guy and great professor. If you find psych even the tiniest bit interesting you will like his class. I know many people struggled with his class but the key is just to take good notes and read the textbook. If you do that you will be set. He also gives lots of extra credit chances and take advantage they can really boost your grade
Fun and interesting lectures, tests aren't very hard imo
Super fun and engaging conversations in class. Also just incredibly humorous and charming to listen to. Absolutely can't recommend Jeff enough for any psych course!
He lectures for the entire 75 minutes. He interrupts himself every few seconds to ask, "Do you guys know what literally means?" or "you know what procedure means, don't you?" He comes across condescending. You can study for hours and still test poorly. I can't get more than half a page of notes even when he talks the entire time.
Jeff is very funny and a good professor! You for sure have to read the textbook because there are things on the test he will not mention in class. Do extra credit when you can, it's generally really easy! Do well on the tests and you'll pass easy.
I absolutely loved Jeff. His lectures were fantastic and as comprehensive as they could be considering how big the topic was. His exams were well-structured and his TA hosted review sessions for them. The only downside was how much reading there was, but he provided what pages of the textbook to read so you didn't waste your time.
