A very strict grader. Gives no help from me when it comes to writing essays. However, he is very knowledgable with the subject.
however dedicated to his material, he is an awful teacher. he pokes fun at students for all types of things (academically related or not) and grades extremely low. he also writes the time you finish your test and uses it to affect your grade. aviod him.
Several words come to mind when commenting on Horn. If I put them up here, the post would likely be censored.
Veryyyyyyyyy strict grader..aviod him at all costs!! gives help in changing papers but change grade once u do...also tells all students to go to writing center before eveery paper...THIS IS A HISTORY CLASSSS! }:/>
just like the other comments--he likes his writing center, but wont budge on grades no matter how much help you get. i dont recommend, but did appreciate his knowledge on the subject. hes a very fascinating storyteller.
Hes the man. Grades fair, just gotta know your stuff. Get to know him and he grades easy. dont whine and you'll be fine
Extremely hard grader
Class was a challenge. Lectures were intense, papers had to be spotless, and his exams were thorough. Dr. Horn is extremely knowledgable and put everything into perspective. Recommended if you can handle it
He knows his stuff.Condesendingand rude. I wish I never met this man. He IS NOT THERE TO BRING THE BEST OUT IN HIS STUDENTS--- ONLY HIMSELF.
PLEASE AVOID HIM. Though he knows well his subject, He is an awful grader. He is never satisfy, no matter how much work you put on his class. If you would like to keep a decent GPA RUN AWAY FROM HIM AS FAR AS POSSIBLE.
Intense teacher...he's teaching is very on cue but theres alot of notes to take. hes tough with grading papers, took 3 points of on mine for not numbering pages on a three page paper...all his exams are essays which makes it difficult--
Very nice guy who is always willing to help students, however it is unfair to students when he uses class time that students pay good money for to platform his leftist philosophies and ideas. HE SHOULD NOT BE ADVISING STUDENTS ON WHO THEY SHOULD VOTE FOR
I hate this man!! He is soooo arrogant!! Do not take this man if you would like your self-esteem to be relatively high at the end of the semester! He is a smart man and should stick to just writing books! He feels that people should write at his level and be as knowledgable as he is! DO NOT TAKE HIM
No matter what u will get a C. this is a boring class and he makes it interesting but its not worth taking if u barely get a C no matter how hard u try.
this man is my dog is shoulda failed his class but he passed me anyway Horn is the shiznit fa shizzle dizzle

the most arrogant and pretentious prof i have ever had. thinks his class is the only course students take and grades unreasonably. the work load is heavy. TAKE ANYONE ELSE!
This man needs to realize that he is the teacher, we are the students, its not our fault that Manhattan students dont write like Harvard grad students, this "intro" history class was the hardest history class Ive ever taken, not clear on assignment reqs. arrogant teacher, shouldnt be at this school
This guy is so condescending in an uncondescending way. He realizes he is intimidating. He's very intelligent on the subject but no matter how hard you work he will give you a C. He grades in a range and his re-write policy on papers is ridiculous. Take someone else if you possibly can!!!
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!! He will mess up ur GPA
dont take him
This guy couldn't be any harder...He pretends to be a really nice guy but then he just rips apart any tests or papers you write. Even other teachers have said...and I quote.."Dr. Horn is the hardest professor on this campus" Anonymous Professor.
way too arrogant to be teaching college students. he has no people skills whatsoever, and is extremely condescending. do not take this professor
I wanted to kill myself in his class. i never missed a class and was late, did so much extra credit, went for extra help for tests and papers and still he was ridiculously hard! DO NOT TAKE HIM! it will be a waste of your time and money cause you will have to take him over again!
save urself and ur gpa dont take him.. hes really nice but when it comes to grading DO NOT expect any grade higher than a C its **** no matter how hard u try.... only take him unless ur an english major who can write PERFECT papers.

Typical Ultra Liberal spin from start to end.
Basically, he's the hardest professor you'll encounter in your college career but he's also the best teacher after Gilheany once you get past the extreme liberalism/bias he has on topics. I recommend taking the Intro class sophomore year with a bunch of roots courses. For anything else, I'd only take him if you want to be challenged.
The man is crazy!! He pretends that he is very caring and ultra nice, but deep down he is an evil serpent seeking to destroy and demoralize students. He will badly hurt your GPA and will insanely critize your papers. Then he will blame his rigorous methods of teaching on the students as if in defense of bad grammer. Sorry we dont all have Phd's
he was great. he's a very hard grader, but if you're willing to go and work with him to improve, you'll do well and he will end up being a valuable resource for history majors in terms of finding internships, etc.
I graduated from MC two years ago and am now currently in graduate school. While i was at MC i took severl classes with Horn and found him to be by far the best teacher i have ever had. He is extremely hard and challenges you beyond your own capapibilities. I learned so much from him and his classes. He is utterly brilliant and extremely helpful
Dr. Horn is by far one of the hardest professors at Manhattan College. If you are not a History major do not take this class and if you cannot work hard don't become a history major because you have to take this class. If you are willing to work, he is willing to help. Just work as hard as you can, and you will learn a ton. Just be prepared.
He is the worst professor ever! I have never received anything under a B EVER! but this a**hole thinks you should be perfect and will belittle you. I am not a History major and regret taking his class. If I could do it again I would not take him! RUN FAR AWAY FROM HIM! He is not a nice guy. If you are late or use the bathroom he gets sooo mad!
Thinks he's a know it all because he wrote a book. Jerk when it comes to attendance.
had him for roots history. he is the devil incarnate. don't bother EVER being late, don't use the bathroom, and don't miss class because he'll report you to the dean. he assigns a lot of extra credit which you HAVE to do in order to get anything above a C. i cannot stress enough, if you are not a history major, DO NOT TAKE HIM!
avoid his class if at all possible. He is totally an unfair grader and is totally unreasonable
He knows his subject but is an impossible grader and a rude, chauvinistic man. If is arrogance didn't get in the way of his teaching he would be a good teacher. Avoid his class if you don't want to kill yourself over papers.
Dr. Horn is the best teacher at Manhattan College. He is extremely difficult, but his expectations have made me into a better student. You will do a ton of work when you take him, but stay on top of the work and go to him for help and you will learn more from him in one class than you will in all of your other classes combined.
Everyone that says you cannot get more than a C is over reacting. I took him three times and my lowest grade was a B+(he does give As.) Yes, he is difficult but, he is the best prof. at Manhattan College. If you need help go talk to him and he is more than willing to give you advice. Follow his directions carefully and you will get at least a B.
Prof Horn is hands down the best teacher at Manhattan College. He remembered me after the first time I met him. Hes really hard but he really helps and gives tons of chances to improve. If your not satisified with your grade in his class that means that you didnt take the 100s of oppertunities he gives you to revise or proofread in advance
Hardest grader at MC. You will be lost if you miss class. He is very picky about writing. You MUST go to him for help; it's impossible to know what he's looking for. No in-class tests, just lots of reading/papers. Hard to get above a C but I ended up with a B- because I think he felt bad for me...
Quite possibly one of the hardest professors at Manhattan College, but by far one of the best professors I have ever had. He is extremely knowledgeable and is always willing to help his students. His classes are intense but are worth every minute spent. I highly recommend taking one of his courses even if it's not a requirement
His courses are very intense. You pretty much have a paper or a draft due every other week with lots of material to read in between. That being said, he is an extremely knowledgeable man and he helped me improve my writing a lot. The people who said that you can't get over a C are exaggerating. However, it is tough to get an A. Don't skip class.
Amazing teacher, has to be one of the best in Manhattan. Extremely knowledgeable and always keeps the class interesting. Tough grader, but helps you with improving throughout the course.
A great guy & very enthusiastic about his courses. He offers a lot of extra credit & rewrites on papers-TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS. His FYS class: there's a lot of long papers. Don't be afraid to ask him for help, he always helps. But he's a very hard grader & not always clear on his advice for improvement. His class/grading will help in the long run.
Professor Horn is a good teacher and a nice guy (for the most part), but when it comes to grading he is ridiculously harsh. Avoid this class unless you want your GPA going into the toilet.
The only way I can describe Jeff Horn's grading policy is sadistic. I've seen even the smartest students I know unable to get a B- on a paper. If you talk to him, he'll condescend and tell you you should have worked harder. I've never worked so hard in a class, and even then, he almost failed me meaning I wouldn't graduate on time. STAY FAR AWAY.
I had Dr. Horn for Intro to History and as and advisor for two accredited internships. I got a B- in ITH at my first semester at MC and received As in the internship electives. He is by far the smartest, most inspirational man I've ever met. He has been a mentor and example to me though out my undergrad and grad experiences. A life changer!
I think that Dr. Horn will meet you at the level you meet him. He is an extremely tough grader, but that is only because he demands the best from his students. He will go the extra mile for your success so long as you do as well. He's has a wealth of knowledge on all things history, but expects you to get your facts straight. Be prepared to work.
Good teacher but ridiculous grader
Hard to get above a C+ on any paper but he gives extra credit which is good. unless you write good essays than don't take this class cause you will just get a C.
Stay clear of this professor. He is full of himself and his knowledge. He's such a difficult grader. Took his 150 class and it's the hardest class I've taken in my college career. Would NOT recommend.
Dr. Horn is an amazing professor. I had the privilege of taking him last semester in his 9am class. Although he's a hard grader he's always accessible and willing to help his students. The extra credits really do help you boost your grade up. His lectures are amazing. I am not even a History major but his class was the BEST class I've ever taken.
I get it, he is smart and knows his history. But he is a perfectionist and thinks he is better than anyone. I would not recommend him to anyone. Just terrible, he will ruin your GPA. He takes points off the dumbest things and his essays and take home exams are difficult. I cried 24/7 because it was that bad.
Jeff Horn is an extreamly passionate teacher, he has a lower grade because a lot of freshman and people who just don't care get left in the dust on his essays. He cared more about education and what he teaches than any teacher I have ever had, I finished with an A- because I went to every extra credit event available and there are a lot.
Dr. Horn is one of the most intelligent people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. I won't lie, his class was incredibly difficult, but it changed how I think, and improved my essay writing for all my classes. You have to take notes during his lectures, but his lectures are very interesting. He lets you rewrite papers, gives very helpful advice.
Great professor, great guy, but he is a very tough grader. He was one of the best teachers I have ever had but he gives a lot of work and you have to go to his office hours, but he will give you what you put in and help you out. If your a history major he will be perfect, but your not, like me, then know his classes will be very demanding.
Dr. Horn is a tough grader. When I took his class he assigned two essays and three take home exams. He would say that he doesn't intend to trick you but he expects a lot from the essays. The take home exams are less stressful then the regular exams. It is A LOT of work. Make sure to ask for help and DO NOT procrastinate.
For an into level class, the amount of work he assigned was ridiculous. Do not take he will ruin your gpa. Avoid at all costs.
I understand that tough professors can be a very good influence on students and encourage them to work as hard as they can be he takes it about five steps too far. Some of his directions seem strict for strictnesses sake. That he doesn't let you bring in your own primary sources on papers is mystifying.
Best lectures ever. Tons of writing, but you'll improve beyond belief. Take if you want to learn not if you want an easy A.
While his lectures are very interesting and he's a great guy and professor, he's an incredibly hard grader. His papers were extremely hard to pass and he was very specific with what he wanted. He's accessible outside of class and office hours are a must but don't take this class if you're not a strong writer or care about history that much.
He seems nice on the outside. He cares for his students. However, He gives stupid amounts of hw each week. He is available at his office a lot, but if you email him, prepare to get one-sentence, incomplete-sentences. He is more of an English teacher and less History teacher, yet doesn't give feedback on how to improve and expects you to write well.
Horn is a teacher who wants to make a difference in the world, and this clearly shows. His lectures are very interesting and mind-blowing at times. However, a lot of reading and work, so you gotta work for it. He is very clear on what he wants, so follow that and discuss your papers with him, here you get what you work for.
Great person but horrible grader. I was always in office hours and getting help on papers but no matter what he would always grade all our papers toughly. Would not take him again but he's very smart and knows a lot about the subject matter.
I could not be more sincere as to when I say Jeff Horn is the worst professor I could of possibly had. There is not one teacher in memory, since I could remember, that was as willfully difficult as Horn. He will make it his mission to make sure you are pulling your hair out while writing his papers and doing his assignments. Dont take him. Dont.
Here's why you should NOT take Dr. Horn. It's not that the lectures are bad or that any assignment is particularly difficult. It's the WORKLOAD. Classes are TWF. 50-page reading and associated discussion post due Monday, essay due Tues, group project due Wednesday and Presentation due Friday can happen. This WILL be your most time-consuming class
Dr. Horn delivered some of the most engaging and interesting lectures I've ever heard. Extremely tough grader with papers though. Definitely send him a draft before submitting papers.
Entered hopeful, left with zero confidence and a much lower gpa. I wouldn't say avoid, but he is not for the faint of heart (or the toughest). Good luck Charlie if you're reading this and you already registered for the class or happen to be taking any other course with him. Get the tissues. Praying for you.
While his lectures are engaging and Ive learned a lot from the class, Horn is a very very tough grader when it comes to his assignments (especially papers). There are discussion boards and group projects every other week to worry about while you have to work on his papers. The class is vey time consuming and he will ruin your gpa.
Dr. Horn is the toughest grader I've ever had. No matter what I wrote he would at best give a C. You can email him for help but he is incredibly vague and does not help as much as you think. His lectures are interesting but the work overload is too much. Unfair grading system, DO NOT TAKE!
No. Just no.
Another shameless indoctrinator, and a hypocrite. He points out "whitewashes" of history in our textbook but is clearly projecting, because his postmodernist narrative conveniently leaves a bunch of stuff out. He grades papers based on his subjective opinions. If you don't need to take his class, steer clear.
Really just too much work. He is a great teacher. Expects too much from us in assignments. Unsure if he is aware or not, but we have more than just his class. Map quizes seem unfair considering he mentions more than 50 places inbetween the quizes and expects us to memorize the location of these places being that he might've mentioned that place 1s.
If you are reading this before the add/drop date has passed, I preach for any student who is not interested in writing 1400-word papers, with rewrites + map quizzes without specified locations. You are expected to do the absolute most whilst Jeff provides the absolute minimum. He usually corrects work with large areas of crossing out without reason
He loads so much onto his students and expects everything to be done in his own particular way. He's impossible when it comes to essays and talks down on his students. He gives feedback on papers that isn't even helpful, and acts like his class is your only priority. avoid him at all costs
Dr, Horn is impossible. He is great at teaching the material, but he is way too harsh when it comes to grading. I spent hours doing his papers and studying for exams, but it was never good enough. I never got graded terribly until taking his class. He ruined my gpa.
This is the worst professor I have ever seen. The homework does not make sense, the prompts for essays make zero sense and he wont even give feedback, he will just cross the whole thing out and give you a crap grade. I think he is the devil and finds joy in every one of his students failing. Guy doesn't care about you or want you to succeed at all.
Roots HIST152 did not have any quizzes but lots of papers to write. Amazing lectures though and if you can manage your other classes with his class you'll be on track to never be stressed for the rest of college. Also his office hours are helpful if you need something explained more clearer. Make sure to look at his syllabus for more information!
He made me want to become a poltician just so I can repeat history to spite him. He is always available for help but his help does NOT help you will leave his office hours/emails no better than the way you WALKED IN. SICKENING! DO NOT TAKE HIM! I understand the workload if this was a class your degree was in but this is NOT my major brobro!
Dr. Horn knows what he's talking about, and he'll make you know that. Pretty down to earth guy and lectures are about as interesting as History can be. Reading assignments due pretty frequent and assigns massive papers (1400 words). Gives feedback quickly but can be vague. Nice guy, learns names within the first week.
this guy made us buy 2 hardcopy textbooks that HE wrote and we barely use one of them. I'm nearly done with the semester and I've used one of the books 3 times. Hates when you are late and when you need to leave during class for whatever reason. This is an elective history class but he treats it like its one of your majors. DO NOT TAKE !!!!!!!!!!
Just a sassy guy who thinks his gen ed class should be the main focus of any student's studies. Requires 2 textbooks that he wrote, that are useless but are forced upon the students to buy as the grade relies on your ability to bring the book in.
Dropped this guy as soon as I had his first class. Expects students who aren't hist majors to dedicate all of their time to his readings. makes students buy a textbook that he wrote. Interesting guy but you can tell he has a snobby attitude due to his academia. Heard a lot of horror stories from non-major kids, overall just stay away.
If you are looking for your 13th reason, take this class. He is evil, a perv, and he gets satisfaction in talking down to people and failing you. If you care abt your gpa run I am a straight a student and he gave me a c.
LITERALLY AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! He is a rude, disrespectful human being, expects you to spill your entire soul in his class, and his class only! Super tough grader, calls you into his office 24/7, no matter what! Lots of reading, and essays!! Take his class is you love being in a great state of Anxiety/ Depression for the entire semester :)
He was a very helpful professor and it was a pleasure to be in his lectures.
