HE ALWAYS SEEMS NERVOUS AND UNCOMFORTABLE
He might know about marketing but he sure as hell can't prove it. Very unsure of himself, VERY boring, though a really nice guy and pretty easy going. Skip often, sleep when you attend. For MKT 221 he allows you to use notes and books during exams.
Nice guy, quite helpful. Test aren't too hard and assignments aren't either. Sometimes he seems afraid to be in front of the class though, and he uses the word "again" in his lectures with reckless abandon (avg. 60 times per 50min class)
He is very nice, and likes what he teaches. Very easy class. Hardly any work.
Great guy, totally available to students whenever, very clear, if u miss he offers extra credit and he is very knowledgable when it comes to marketing and entrepreneurship! His goal is to motivate students into owning a business some day! Two thumbs up!
Easy Class. I would take it again and again and againg and again and again and again.....You'll get the picture...
good teacher, not the most interesting topics, and he doesnt hold attention real well, but he offers tons of extra credit (even for attending certain regular class days). lets you use notes on tests which are online and in class. great guy. would suggest this class for everyone.
Take this class. it is easy and not that boring. you can skip class almost every day if you want. get a couple friends and rotate going, all can get As. curved a online open note test so that the average grade was a 62 out of 60, very very fair. teaches well too. you can learn if you want.
Biggest blow-off ever to the point that it is almost insulting. Open note tests, posts powerpoint lectures on Blackboard, and gives so much XC that I walked into the final with a 115% in the class! Jeff is cool, very knowledgeable, and easy to approach. He makes it VERY easy to get an A.
I can even describe how east the class was. open book and open note exams, extra credit out the ass, i never went, i got a 94%, and i mean never went
one of the best prof's that i've had. easy class but yet you learn a lot. easy a if you go to class and do the projects.
Very good prof. He made class very interesting and fun not to mention a very easy class. Although easy you can really learn a lot. Recommend!
I didnt attend very much at all and will end up with and A or B. Very easy, online tests, nice guy, Recommended.
this is BS. He added a bunch of stuff in after the class was over. Idiot.
I pretty much loved Jeff Hoyle. He's a nice guy and all the tests are online! The tests come from lectures and he posts all the Powerpoints online. Show up, because he likes to offer credit/extra credit for attendance. Group projects are easy if your group works well together. Knowledgeable guy!
very bad time management skills, gives projects on the first day so people forget about them and then never mentions them again until they are due. Not too much fun this class, however exams are on blackboard, so that helps, and all exams are from his powerpoints
Hoyle knows his stuff. I took him for ENT 101 and I handled the class well. He tries his hardest to make the class easy for you, while still be able to teach you something. He tells you exactly what to change on your final drafts for your business plans, had an online final exam, and drops your lowest exam. Very good professor. I'd recccomend him.
i loved him! he explained everything really well and even though its a lecture he still kept you involved
Single biggest waste of money at Central. His lectures are laughable, the textbook is a compilation of many books with no index or contents section. His tests are online, should be done in sleep. I had two 100% tests and still got a C in the class. Pointless assignments will teach you nothing and ruin your grade. Take JRN 360, you might learn.
All tests are on BB. Uses powerpoints that are also on BB so no need to take notes. He lectures and sometimes he is interesting. Big project to do with marketing that he doesn't explain very well, ask questions and he will explain better... not a bad class at all.
Really easy class, if you don't get an A you just never showed up. All tests on blackboard, lets you use whatever you want, really easy grader on group projects. He's a nice guy and seemed to keep us up to date with his office hours (I never had to go, but if I did I'd know). Overall, take it for the A, lectures are boring, bring a laptop.
INCREDIBLY easy class. All the tests are on blackboard and he posts the lecture notes online. I only attended class a handful of times throughout the semester and still got an A. Very nice guy and will help all he can IF YOU ASK.
great teacher.. pretty easy
Easy class. Tests on blackboard. Usually get out of class early. He kind of gets sidetracked sometimes. While attendance is not mandatory he gives random 10 point assignments.
This professor is a good guy and the class is not hard. the exams are online and notes are not important because you can get everything out of the book using the study guide. Easy grader
very easy class, you just have to make sure you show up. the test are on blackboard, hence you need to the book (and the index) to look up the answers. easy A
Easiest class I have ever taken! Man this guy makes it so easy for you to get an A, do all of the extra credit, all exams are on blackboard, including the final which was 20 questions. If you need to take this class, it is a BREEZE and a definite GPA booster, I never studied and did the extra credit and I got a 99%
this professor is not only extremely boring, but very unhelpful. while working on his marketing plan i asked for help so many times and yet he only gave the same answers or ones way off track. none of his thought processes seem to flow and the lectures half the time dont seem to fall together. tests easy, mkt plan confusing as hell!
Easy A! His lectures are a little boring, but its in a big lecture hall so just bring a laptop to keep entertained. Gives a lot of extra credit.
Easiest "A" ever. His exams are online, and actually encourages to use the book and notes during it. Gives extra credit too, so if you screw up, you have some opprotunities to make it better. Responds to e-mails quickly and is helpful. Lectures get boring, but bring your laptop and facebook. He doesn't seem to mind.
Great class. Use of power point slides so you don't really need the book. We did 3 questions out of the book, just partner up with someone who has the book, save some money. Tests are online and you have 2 days or so to complete it. Really easy course, with speakers and 1 big mkt project. So simple you can't go wrong taking this course. Nice guy!
His class is super easy, all group work in class for points, super easy, and all quiz and exams online with more time than needed to complete
MOST BORING CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN. Lost a lot of points because I missed class. It was difficult to make myself go since all he did was lecture in his monotone voice for a hour and fifteen minutes. Learned nothing and made me change my marketing minor. Fell asleep in class almost everyday. TAKE A DIFFERENT PROF. IF YOU CAN!
Ridiculously easy. Tests are open book, and every class assignment is group work. Rambles through lectures that don't matter and actively adjusts the grading structure to help people who don't try. I feel for the guy; he really cares about the topic and he was visibly miffed when attendance started thinning. Still, the very definition of an easy A.
Really easy class!!! If you're a sport studies major or in marketing this class is just simple. You have to go to class in order to gain all the participation points and all exams are online and the final exam was open book. You have a two page research paper to write but it's simple. If you don't get an A in this class you're just really lazy
I would take this class the first two years of college. It is very basic and easy.
This class is easy but...I feel like all he did was talk and talk without really making any points or teaching anything. He also introduced our projects in the first week of class that aren't due until the last week. I personally think that this class was pointless is you want to learn about marketing but if you want an easy A then its okay.
Extremely nice guy.
EASY, but BORING. He talks in circles and never really gets to the point. If you're required to take it, no worries. If you're taking it to get an intro to marketing (maybe if you're unsure about your major) I would recommend taking another class. I've been to every class period and I don't think I've learned much at all. Prof is a nice guy though.
Very easy class, but boring. His lectures never get to the point, but you get a page of notes on the tests and gives you a study guide, so no worries about the tests.
Super easy class. Don't really need the book except for Comprehensive Cases, which are group projects. No tests, just quizzes every once in awhile. I never studied for this class and I got an A-. Definitely take him, and as much as night classes suck, take him at night because he gives more extra credit since people leave early. Don't buy book!
Jeff is a great guy, he knows his stuff, class is pretty easy too, his lectures can get a little boring sometimes but its not too bad. He cares about his students and enjoys there input. easy class great guy
You are supposed to read the book, but i haven't opened it and with two weeks left of class I have a 85%. Very low level marketing class. I have not learned much but is a pretty easy class with very little homework.
Quite tangential. It's hard to pay attention during lectures because he only uses powerpoints half the time - during the other lectures he usually just talks. Sometimes it's hard to see the point but he's truly a nice guy. The book is absolutely not needed - most exams are online and very, very easy.
Super nice guy. Hard to understand lectures and his points but you can tell he loves the subject. Easy class and a very good guy
This class is so easy. Exams are online and he pretty much gives you the full points automatically. If you looking for a easy A take him for sure!
If you don't get an A in this class something may be wrong with you. I should finish with a 99%. Quite possibly the easiest class I have ever had (including elementary school), but definitely one of the most boring. One group project/presentation and exams are online. Jeff is a really nice guy, but extremely boring.
Awesome guy. He gets lost in thought explaining things but if you ever have a question he tries his best to help. Quizes are online. Final project can be done alone or with a group (your choice). Goes out of his way to meet with you if you need help.
Nice guy, but definitely gets off track a lot. Haven't had any homework, a couple quizzes online.
Easy A. Super boring to attend since Hoyle gets wayyyy off track but manditory since alot of easy in class writings (always in groups). 1 online exam, final was online and group project was extremely easy. Recommend if you need an A.
this class is incredibly boring because the prof just mumbles stories and gets excited about tangents that HE thinks are related to the class. there is no structure beyond the book chapters, he doesn't inform the class about assignments (syllabus is very vague). the class is easy but overall, not worth my time.
I took this as an online course in the summer. There were online chat sessions. The teacher recorded lectures. Was extremely helpful. I missed the final exam deadline, and he let me take it late. I still pulled off a B+. He was nice, helpful, and I recommend him. He uses real life stories to teach & goes off topic sometimes, but I enjoyed the class
This class is honestly the most boring class I have ever taken. The professor is a nice guy, though. If you need an A and want a class you could probably sleep through every day and still achieve that goal, this class is for you.
He talks about the 5 pillars every day so make sure you know them. Attendance is a big part of your grade. He rambles on the whole class period about things completely off topic. Open note tests.
He rambles on and on all hour about nothing that involves this class, as long as you go to class and participate with the clickers its easy. Tests are open book. He lets you out early most days and he cancels class sometimes as well. Know the 5 pillars!
YOU LEARN NOTHING IN THIS CLASS. He just talks about absolutely nothing but you have to come to class to get participation points. Very boring and annoying. I guess if you want a blow off class take his.
He makes absolutely no sense. The class is super easy, but I got pretty tired of having to and sit on my computer because attendance it mandatory. We don't learn anything, most of the time its just him rambling about the five pillars or the wall street journal. Don't take this class unless you have to.
Jeff is a great guy , csn get confusing but he just wants hus students to learn!
Super easy class, however he stands in front of the class and rambles about nothing relevant all hour. I was interested in marketing before and after not at all.
Jeff does not expect much from his students except that you show up to class. I did not get any points off the whole class because attendance is most of the grade. Yu can go and sleep if you want but it is the easiest class I have taken by far and Hoyle is a boring teacher but a great marketing mind. Take this class if you want an A
Class is very easy, I think I slept everyday in class along with 90% of the other people in class. Very understanding of things, allowed our group to do a presentation during his office hours for a grade, does show some good youtube videos though.
Learned absolutely nothing except that he knows how to put everyone to sleep
He is a really good guy, I've had him a few times now. Not all that great of a professor, but the class is easy so that doesn't suck. Pretty disorganized but passionate. Decent material, poorly executed, if you want an easy A or B, take Hoyle.
Easiest class I've ever taken. If you are taking this to see if you're interesting in Marketing I would recommend not taking it. I didn't learn a single thing in this class. You don't necessarily needs to even go to class but if you do you can sit on your laptop all hour and get an A. How is this even a college course? lol
This class is pointless. I did not learn anything all semester except the five pillars! really easy class tho, just show up and use the clicker and you will get an A no problem. Very nice guy, just isn't organized at all,and loves to get off topic
I learned nothing, but I got an A. He's big on clicker use. You only get a few points a day for it, but it adds up. Just show up to class and pay attention when you need to use the clicker. Otherwise, just sit on your phone or laptop.
Very easy. Is a very big user of clickers. Cant even really consider his exams a test.
SO EASY!!!! Take him please. He makes you do a simple project and thats it. Class you should show up but its not mandatory, but there is clicker questions so thats how you get your attendance.
This is a joke class you go to lecture and get assigned a semester project that you don't have to put any effort into to get a good grade. he is a joke absolutely no clarity on the project when we asked what its on he said "thats for you to decide" just take it easy 3 credit class
Jeff is a total character. He goes on and on in his lectures about the most random things. Easy A.
Dr. Hoyle was a very solid professor. The course was really easy but he was somewhat disorganized. If you do assignment you will get a good grade and all exams are take home. There is a group project but again if you do it decently well you will do fine. The class was somewhat dry as a whole but it was an easy A.
Jeff is great! He's very considerate of your other classes/schedules. He wants to see you succeed. Exams were online and he believes in open book exams. I suggest reading the book before taking the exam to save time. Our final was a 200 word review on how we liked the class and took away from it. I would highly recommend taking this class with him.
Okay, this class started out like any other class, moderate homework, attendance sign-in sheet, presentations, partner projects. Then half way through the class he cancelled ALL classes until the final (online final, mandatory class meeting). I thought that was cool but he does not use BlackBoard regularly and takes awhile to grade/answer emails.
Hoyle has a lot of experience in sales but has very boring lectures and a poorly structured class. No one pays attention because you don't have to, don't buy the book, and don't ask questions on the project because he'll vaguely answer them. I didn't learn one thing in this class.
Don't buy the book! The lectures quite literally put people to sleep. He goes off on irrelevant tangents for nearly the entire class. Students don't respect him and usually you can barely hear him over everyone talking because students are trying to learn the content on their own.
Dr. Hoyles class is easy but beneficial. He would rather teach his students the material than try to trick them or make it overly complicated.
Dr. Hoyle is very smart and caring. Unfortunately, he has a difficult time sharing his wisdom. Easiest class ever. Can easily get an A without buying the textbook. Client project is a breeze. Class lectures are pointless to go to.
Hoyle is a decent guy, his lectures are horrific to sit through because he has no actual point he just talks about his personal experiences. Assignments are easy, only 1 exam was online and open book/note. If you're not a MKT major and just want to pass this class - take him. If you actually want to learn something, don't.
I would avoid Hoyle at all costs. If you HAVE to take his class- go for the short lecture, it will be less mind-numbing and more worth your money.
Really awesome guy, but hard to understand. He gets sidetracked in class easily and often and it's hard to decide what is related to the class. Seems to take 10 minutes to get to the one key sentence. He is curious and conversational. If you're respectful, he will move mountains to help you. He strives to make meaningful connections.
Exams are very difficult and didn't relate to what we had learned in class. Group projects were difficult because you would ask a question and he would talk in circles and not actually answer what you were asking. He really does mean well, I just did not find a lot of success in his course. The 3 hour class we never stayed for longer than 1.5 hours
Professor Hoyle is unbelievably disorganized, and don't even bother emailing him for help - he is beyond useless. From the very first day of class, I was stressed and confused because he contradicts nearly everything in the syllabus and on the course shell. He's so mixed up in the head.
Easy grader if you put mediocre effort in. Weekly discussion board posts, easy points. One project paper at the end. Four exams, lockdown browser required. Offers practice test questions to help study for exams.
He is probably the rudest professor I've had in my 4 years at CMU. He does not care for his students at all and it really shows. Avoid him if you can.
Despite the boring lectures, Prof. Hoyle did a great job at teaching the content and provided more real-world projects which were good.
The book wasn't necissary for online since the discussion boards are the only thing you read. Every sunday you have a discussion board post due that has you answer 4 questions, a journal on what you learned a quiz of 10 questions and a webex session at 9 pm. He's never around to answer emails and when he does it's either days later or never.
On our group project, a member last minute decided to drop out of the class. He was no help is giving us an extension or relieving the work load. This was after he was notified previously for an unresponsive work group. Worst professor I have had to take.
Eh. I got an A but definitely not worth my time/money. I wish I could have taken this course with a different prof.
Hoyle is nice but just super boring and never teaches anything of value. He never really knows whats going on but is a very easy grader. He says attendance matters but I always get 100% for attendance and I miss a lot. Boring classes and professor but worth it for the easy A
Professor Hoyle was ok as a teacher, but like others have said, his lectures are just very boring and nothing he teaches is actually useful in the real world. This class also has a ton of homework. Every week there is a lecture, test, discussion board and Journal due.
I love his classes and really didn't have to do much outside of connect. He just wants to engage with us and it's sad to see everyone watching youtube or doing other homework during his lectures (although they are a bit boring at times...) it's actually enjoyable to go to class. Show up and participate, you'll do great.
Take this class!!! He helped me with so much this year professionally; just showing up for class and participating was pretty enjoyable to say the least. Need a job? TAKE THIS CLASS. You'll get out as much as you put into it--don't be that person that doesn't speak the entire semester cause you guys suck for that.
Hoyle is a nice professor. He has a lot of lectures, but his classes tend to be easier (grading, assignments, etc.). A lot of his assignments are based on helping organizations around Mt. P and learning about real-world marketing.
This guy is chill he just talks so quiet no one can hear what he says or pays attention. Classes are typically just lectures with some papers handed out once in a while. No final just group projects. I would take this class again
Lots of work and long exams.
