Cool guy. Nice. Fun to talk too. Should be a full time teacher. You will learn in his class and not be bored with math.

He's a very hard teacher. If you try to talk to him about anything he doesn't help you out at all. His exams don't make sense at all. It's more of an english class than calc.
he's a nice guy, but not a very good prof. and im good a math. does not explain things very well. and not very forgiving with grading.
He's smart, and he gives us plenty of examples for each math situation. However his tests and quizzes are a bit rigid.
Hes is a really bad teacher, he doesn't curve. He doesn't help much outside of class, except for 5 min after class is over. I would never suggest him to anyone
Terrible Professor
terrible teacher
I had this guy a long time ago, obviously nothing has changed, i got a c- and worked HARD for it. He spent more time writing on felt board than actually explaining stuff, and the exams were very difficult. I wish i would have taken a different prof.
exams were hard and he seemed to not care very much about how the class was doing as a whole.
Refused to answer questions from class or explain furthur, even if the majority was asking for a better explaination. He graded very inconsistantly from student to student, some get partial credit others never get it. COMPARE GRADING WITH YOUR PEERS.
I totally agree, he did the same thing in our class 2 years ago, two people would have exact same answer, one would get 2 points, another'd get 5. Spent more time writing than teaching...horrible teacher, wish I would of had a better teacher for calc 1.
Prof. Igo is really tough when it comes to test :S but he's a really nice guy but tough.
Really good explanations. Good participation goes a long way in his class though. He really seems to care about if he's doing well.
What a Joke.. This guy won't go over past assignments or tests.. I had a real interest in math till I learned that people like this teach at UM Dearborn. Do not take if you care about your grade..
Proffesor Igo is very straightforward. HE does not go over the tests and is really not interested in his classes.
Igo is best math instructor at the University of Michigan Dearborn. He takes his time in teaching the material and makes sure that the students understand. If you do the homework you will pass the quizzes and the tests. Igo is the Math teacher to take for Math 115.
Doesn't go over homework or tests, doesn't spend enough time explaining. Biggest downfall = he allows calculators on tests and quizzes. Great, now you know how to put questions in your calculator but you don't know calculus. Have fun in Calc 2 if your prof doesn't let you use calculators (like most)
very unclear in his explanations, doesn't go over previous night's homework. Doesn't have an interest in how his students are doing. I do not recommend this teacher; take anyone else but him if you need to take pre-calc.
He makes what should be an easy class difficult. He refuses to answere any questions that have to do with the homework or tests, enless you see him in his office hours. Creepy. This guy does not care about his students or if they learn. Inconsistant grading as well.
Lectures don't flow. However they do seem to be timed and well practiced. It's almost like he's performing a monologue not actually teaching. Spends no time in class on anything other than lecture. Quizzes are always one week before a test. You get a better grade if you don't do the homework.

Everyone who complains about him should still be in High School. Igo is your classic College Profesor, he comes in on time, lectures (well, by the way), and always ends class on time. People say he does not care about how you are doing and he probably doesn't, you're not his kid. He is happy to further explain if you seem him before or after class in the room or in his office. Quizzes are less than 10 problems, and tests less than 30.
This guy sucks! he is not helpful to students at all. his notes are like paragraphs on the board. he is a freaking ****!
Like it says below. He is your typical college professor. He doesn't care about your grade, that's the students job to do that. He will explain something further if you ask, and I'm sure he was there for his office hours. I don't like math, but did a fine job. Besides, this is college, it's time to grow up. Professors can't hold your hand anymore.
like the previous message, he's a teacher, that's it...if you ask, he'll help, he's prompt, and gives breaks...he doesn't give a crap about you on a personal level, thats not why he's there...still, i hated his class sooo much, but thats only because he only gave tests and quizzes for points, you have no other way of bringing your grade up...study!
A great teacher I think, explains things very well, tests and quizes are pretty easy. Maybe he's harder for the upper math classes? Friendly, understnadable, gets down to the point quick, answers all questions.
By far the BEST math teacher I have had! He teaches at a great pace, & explains like things as if you've never seen math in your life, HW is optional, and he is happy to answer questions after class (if you don't want to go to his office). My advice is to do the HW and study it before quizzes and tests, since it is all out of your HW anyways.
Answers all questions with sincerity and without belittling. Excellent clarity in teaching, and assignments. The class begins on time and runs the full 90 minutes. If you are interested in learning the subject I highly recommend Prof Jeff Igo.
If you like math I'm sure you will love his class. He wasn't very helpful right from the beginning. A few of us got behind because the bookstore ran out of text books and he basically told us it's our problem.Your entire grade is based upon 4 tests and if you're not the best test taker, the odds are against you.
Tests seem to be very hard. Monotonous tone. Very nice guy though.
I've had Jeff for 080 and 105, and I would take him again if I could. I HATE math, and I'm not very good at it either. He explains things very clearly and slowly, could teach pre-calc to an 8 year old, IMO. HW is not mandatory but all test problems are from it, 4 tests, 6 quizzes, one dropped. Allows a calculator. Overall, very nice and helpful.
Really helpful and clear discussion. I am ridiculously stupid at math but did well in this class. Kind of slow moving through material though so you might get bored.
Jeff is a very good teacher. He explains things well and if you need help, he will help you. He explains concepts well and doesn't move too fast. Although your grade is based on tests and quizzes, they're easy. The quiz questoins come straight from homework, even though he doesn't require you do the homework. Lets you drop lowest quiz score.
Very clear and very helpful. If you do the work and engage the teacher this class will be rewarding. I met with the teacher multiple times before class to discuss problems and he was very enthusiastic to help me and seemed to really enjoy my progress, I started with B's and C's but ended the classes with an A- overall.
Good professor
Good prof, a little slow at times, but that's just the material. Great at helping outside of class if you need it. All his quizes are the exact same as the homework problems.
wonderful professor. he is very helpful and extremly clear in his teaching.I would take him a million times.
Awesome teacher. Very fair grader! Super nice!
Awesome Prof. I only wish he was teaching Calc. 115! Go to class, do the homework, and study hard. He is always willing to answer questions no matter how dumb they were.
Awesome teacher. took in summer. went fast but notes extremely clear. quizzes exactly like hw. test probs very similar to hw. very easy to understand. always answers student questions. very helpful. would take him again. he needs to teach 115
One of the best math professors at UM-D. He knows his stuff and is very happy to help. Quizzes are the homework problems, word for word verbatim. He assigns a lot of homework though but it's very helpful. Definitely recommended.
Extremely helpful. He is clear and breaks down math, so that anyone can understand. Attend class and do homework. Outstanding professor.
really hard to pay attention when he just drones on in a monotone for 2 hours. really hard to pay attention and math is not my strong suit so i have to re-take. class is based on 6 quizzes and 4 exams and the final. tests are EXTREMELY difficult. if you aren't good at math, take a diff prof.
explains very well in class, and very helpful, makes you feel that you did well on exams and on quizes and when you get your grade back, u will be totally surprised because he is a very hard grader. if you miss a sign or an exponent in your answer he takes away lots of points. . but he is Nice , i can't deny that.
Igo is a great professor but not easy, I attempted to take this course in the spring, A NEVER AGAIN! He makes this course feel impossible with no study guides and literally 100's of problems of homework a day. His class was based on 4 tests plus final and 6 quizzes. If you struggle in math, DO NOT take him in spring or summer!
never miss a class because its hard to teach yourself. he never goes over the examples in book because his quizzes are from them. he teaches the very basic equation and example then expects you to know the advanced version. he explain things well and you think you understand it but then you get the test and are very confused.
great professor, very organized, explains in great detail, the test questions are straight from the homework (not collected), so if you do your homework you will get an A, I had him for the summer and it was the best class ever. I would love to take another class with this great prof.
Teaches to the smartest person in the class. Will only explain the easiest problems from the book, but will test you on the hardest problems taken from the homework, without first showing you how to solve those equations. Plus, he assigns too much homework. There are 4 tests, 5 quizzes, extra credit, and a final exam. Beware.
Best math teacher I have ever had. Quizzes are fair, and he gives partial credit on most problems. Lots of extra credit can be earned. He actually knows how to TEACH!
He is a good teacher annoying grader He does always give u partial credit for wrong answer but have work he always wants a written explanation of how you got your answer .The quizes are rlly easy and str8 forward tests could be tricky. He does not drop, no extra credit and doesnt grade homework this is really bad because one bad test and u r done
Nice guy, not that great of a professor. Basically you will learn from the book, and get a monotone preplanned lesson on the board during class. No Questions allowed, if you begin asking he will become frustrated because 'there is no time'. Only available 10 minutes before and after class - no flexibility. If you have questions, go to the MLC
Terrible prof. Only works out chapter examples. WILL NOT answer student's questions or go over HW problems! Try to learn from the book, show up for face time, and take his notes to the MLC or a tutor. Using a method to solve not directly from notes results in 0 pts on test. Only open for 15 min after class, if there's a line - too bad he's leaving.
Took in summer so this might sound biased. No review before lecture on pervious material. Lectures on quiz and exam days. Not for the faint of heart!
Great professor. teaches the subject well and makes sure you know it before he moves on. answers questions and helps students outside of class. easily reachable and very friendly.
Really nice guy and very helpful. The only thing i didnt like was that your grade is entirely based on the 4 tests and 6 quizzes. no homework is ever graded. so if you mess up on a test youre pretty much screwed. Also the questions are very straight forward and are just like the homework questions. i would recommend him to anyone!!
Great guy terrible professor He just walks through the examples in the book without asking the class if they have questions then gives the homework He gives tons of problems for homework none of which are graded but if you dont do the homework you will not understand the material because he sucks at teaching. NO CURVES or DROPS and CUMULATIVE FINAL
He explains the material very well in class. He doesn't have a relationship with students, though. He is a nerd who is very precise, especially when grading. VERY TOUGH GRADER! Any little mistake is marked down. Lots of homework every night 4 exams 6 quizzes, 1 cumulative final. NO DROPS OR CURVES. Do every single homework assignment you might pass
Probably one of the best math teachers I've had since high school. His class is very easy and gets to the point. I took it at night, and the setting was very mellow. He follows the textbook and he gives homework online - DO THE ONLINE HW! He doesn't grade the textbook homework. Quzzies and exams are straight to the point - but he's a picky grader.
I had him for precalc he's one of the best math professor in UM-D. He is very helpful and clear. He gives you 4 tests and 6 quizzes that are straight out of the hw. You don't have to turn in the hw but you should do it since the tests and quizzes are taken from it. I dont understand why he does not have good reviews but he really makes precalc easy
Igo = best math professor, very monotone and you might zone out here and there but his notes on the board are so clear that you wont fall behind in class. He doesnt use the book, only for reference and you need to buy the MathLAB. His tests are hard but he teaches you what you need to know. drops a quiz and gives a ton of extra credit. TAKE HIM!
Professor Igo is a helpful professor. He's straightforward, the six quizzes are taken from homework and he'll drop your lowest quiz score. There are also four tests and a cumulative final. I would recommend Professor Igo.
I suck at math but he made it easy for me. Good at explaining things in simple terms. Make sure to copy down everything he writes on the board. He assigns a ton of problems from the book that are optional, try to do at least some of them if you want to get a good grade cause practice is essential. Always gives quizzes a few days before the test.
Igo is very boring with his tone of voice but does not require you to come to classes.
professor Igo is a very harsh grader when it comes to his exams. And he goes all out with the material he puts on there, even if you study your butt off his exams will look like new material that you have never seen.
Igo is amazing! He encourages questions and answers them well. His explanations are clear and straightforward. Anyone that is criticizing him probably didn't do the optional practice problems he assigns. You need to understand that this is college, you still have to study on your own outside of class and put in effort to get a good grade.
To get a good grade, come to class each day, sit in the front, pay attention, take good notes (he gives you everything you need to know, copy everything down!), do the optional book problems for practice, and do the webassign assignments! Takes some effort and dedication but it's definitely possible to get an A! Take him if you get the chance!
He made my life easier! Take him if you can! He is awesome!
Igo was very helpful and always willing to answer questions after class, or during office hours. His notes are vey clear and precise. Practice problems are extremely beneficial, seeing as he sometimes pulls quiz questions from practice problems in the book. I strongly recommend him to anyone in need of a math course.
Took 105 in summer (7 week course). Lectures were very clear, tons of optional homework that is recommended to prepare for tests (4 exams plus final account for 85% of grade). Test questions are generally easier then the homework questions. Attendance is not mandatory but the lectures are worth going to rather then learn the material on your own.
he is so monotoned I could probably sleep, but he is smart and knows his stuff. he tries to give you points on exams and quizzes if you make a little mistake. online homework that is mandatory, book homework is optional. quizzes every week. wish he gave exams in the beginning of class so you can get out early and not learn new stuff that day.
He is alright. I think the quizzes are harder than the exams. I wish I had taken someone else for this course.
This course was on the Alek's program. SO it was self learning. He was a nice guy, always ready help &answer questions. He tells you if hes concerned about you falling behind. Do the math topics!!!!! Don't procrastinate. Final is on Aleks. I waived out of 090 after I quit procrastinating. Ask& you shall receive. I asked for a final review& got one
Very good lectures. He assigns optional HW from the textbook and mandatory HW online. The questions in the homework are far more easier than in his tests. Your grade relies a lot on your tests. I got around 97% overall, but my grade went down to a C from a test I wasn't able to complete because I didn't have enough time. Would not recommend!
He mad pre-calc the easiest thing ever .His lectures are the best, But believe me. I never studied my notes. It doesnt mean dont take notes, because he does provide mandatory online homework which is the only thing i studied and i got an A, easily. Web Assign. He does give out optional book work, not required, however the book itself is required
He lectures the entire class. If you understand the subject really well, then you don't need to show up. We had 4 tests and 4 quizzes. We were given a week to do the homework.
This class was very difficult. Even after attending every class and taking notes AND completing every homework assignment, I was still failing. I managed to withdraw, but I would say do not take his class. He makes his notes too simple, the tests are nothing compared to what he does in class, and NEVER gives enough time to complete tests or quizzes
This Professor is a nice guy, but if your are not willing to study at least 2 hours a day for his class then dont even bother taking him. His teaching is unique and understandable but his tests are very difficult to do especially in the amount of time he gives you. To sum it up you have to understand the material better than him to get an A.
Guy teaches you section 5 while you're being tested on section 3. Homework is very easy, but the tests are the olympics compared to it. Yeah, he does give partial credit on tests, but they are just way too hard compared to the work he gives us in class and homework. Expect to be teaching yourself a lot of the material.
Glaring disconnect between what is taught and what is tested for. Will do easiest examples, and then test on hardest homework questions. Other than that, he's a nice guy.
Doesnt really care about his students. All that needs to be said, take another professor.
First off, I would like to clear up some past ratings I have seen. Yes, his classes are generally kind of hard. Yes, his tests are kind of tough. Math 105 is a tricky class if you don't put effort into it. He will email back within a short pd. Of time. Very accessible. He's very clear with what he wants. If you want to actually learn, take Igo.
Great guy, makes you feel like he knows what he's doing, but really over complicates things and teaches you the hard way to do just about everything. Homework questions are super easy and then the tests are like the olympics in comparison. He really does try to grade fairly and give partial credit on exams, however, it just isn't enough.
I am not sure where all the crappy reviews are coming from. I struggle very badly in math to the point i barely passed precalculus. Although i barely passed he definitely taught it well and was incredibly helpful when it came to asking questions. Yes it took a lot of work just as all other math classes do. Grades fair on exams.
This professor is a good teacher but he only goes over the easiest problems in class and the homework is the same way as well. The tests are the hardest problems. I recommend that if you have to take this class DO NOT take it in summer because the planning for an 8 week course is absolutely atrocious. Out of my class of 10 only 3 students passed.
By far the toughest teacher I've ever taken. My class was full in the beginning of the semester and after the first exam, the class was less than half full. His exams are SUPER difficult compared to his quizzes/ homework. He will try to help but it will just make everything more confusing. My recommendation? DO NOT TAKE HIM.
This professor speeds through the notes way too fast- he doesn't even give us a chance to understand what is being taught. His homework questions are WAY easier than the test questions. No review or guidance is given regarding what will be on the tests. He's a nice guy but he needs to improve his teaching skills.
Jeff Igo is a really bad professor because his tests and quizzes were impossible to pass. He goes really fast in class and talks to the board all the time. I will not suggest you take him.
Professor Igo is not a horrible person but he is a horrible professor. Be prepared to teach yourself EVERYTHING and still fail his tests. you can prepare as much as you want for his tests but he always seems to put in problems that aren't covered in class or they are lightly covered in the homework. I would definitely NEVER recommend this professor
Despite what people are saying here, Prof. Igo is a real gem. He really cares about his students and gives all practice needed to do well on quizzes and exams. If you're not doing well, then you need to put some more effort. He's usually available during office hours and doesn't hesitate to help his students. He's also very organized.
I really do not understand how there are any bad ratings at all. Professor Igo has been by FAR the best professor I have taken. He explains the math and makes sure everyone is on track. After ever quiz and exam he gives out these progress reports that tell you want grades you need to get on the other assignments to pass +theres lots of extra credit
Prof Igo really tries to help you succeed and goes out of his way to help you. He is almost always accessible and gets back to you immediately. On a side note, he is a wizard always getting to class on the exact time it starts and pretty much knows who you are day 1. As for the class, it is very test focused and he doesn't go in-depth, teaching.
Calc 1 will be easy if you take any other professors ! Level of Difficulty 5/5 !!
Really nice guy and seems to care about students. Make sure to take good notes from his lectures and practice A LOT for his tests because they're not easy. Online hw is mandatory and he gives soooooooo many problems from the book (which is helpful for practice). Final exam was 7 chapters and 3 hours long. If you're confused, SPEAK UP.
Hes very clear and knows what hes doing. Responds to emails quickly. Willing to answer questions in class and after class.
Gives many examples so go to class and take notes. Tests and quizzes are out of the homework in the book. So if you do it then you will have no problem getting an A. Go to his office hours after a test to see how to do what you got wrong as it will matter for the last quiz. He will walk you through it. Just ask.
His lectures are very good and helpful. But that's all he does - lecture. If you show up and take notes and do the optional book problems, you will get an A. The online homework is easier than the tests though, don't rely on that for studying. DO NOT SKIP THE CLASS.
Professor Igo is a great teacher who cares about his students. He wants you to do well and is willing to help in any way. He also is very supportive of students improvement and encourages you to do well. Assigns lots of book homework but the quizzes and tests come right from it. Lectures very heavy so make sure to attend class and take good notes
The best math professor at UMD in my opinion! I'm not strong in math at all and Igo basically starts from the beginning and makes everything very clear. There are several examples given. The exams are just like the quizzes which are just like the homework. He is always ready to help if you are struggling with anything. Definitely would recommend!
Amazing professor would take again! He's great at helping students understand things and he will always remind you that you have a quiz/exam/test if he see's you haven't done it yet.
Coming from someone who has struggled in math my whole life, professor Igo is AMAZING!! Homework every week however not difficult, a few quizzes and exams. He is extremely reasonable when it comes to grading exams and is very lenient on due dates. He cares for his students and wants them to succeed. 10/10 recommend!!
Igo is pretty helpful all around. His lectures have nice examples and are well spoken. He was responsive to questions and comes across as nice. HW is done through webwork and is very reasonable. Quizzes and tests are quite a bit harder than HW, but nothing unreasonable if you study a small bit.
Professor Igo was amazing!! He will literally still respond to emails after midnight and on weekends because he is really passionate about making sure you understand the material. He used webwork for homework with problems ranging from about 5-25, he postpones them if you ask. Doesnt give much extra credit, 3 tests, 10 quizzes about 10 questions.
I had him for pre-calc and he sucked. he's a nice guy, just not a good teacher. He would lecture but he was always so confusing.
The class isn't as hard but you should show up because you might miss a lot of information. Go to Si it helps a lot and study for the class. Don't play around but the tests are 10 questions and the quizzes are 5. The projects are really easy to do.
took his class for pre calc asynchronous online. a few homework assignments a week and sometimes quizzes. none is too challenging just a little time consuming. may give extra credit or let you redo assignments you have missed. posts lectures on everything if you do need help understanding a topic. simple class and great teacher.
Amazing professor, seriously. Really dedicated and will answer emails fast!! Had him for MATH 105 (got an A) and MATH 115 (got a B+). He was very encouraging and helped me a lot in office hours and through email. Test/quiz questions can be tricky if you don't know the material, BUT DO THE TEXTBOOK PROBLEMS HE ASSIGNS! NOT JUST WEBASSIGN/WEBWORK!
He's a decent man but not a good professor. Often has confusing and long lectures. His tests are usually made more difficult than homework and textbook examples.
Good person, not a super great professor. Expected you to remember everything from algebra (my last algebra class was 3 years ago) so the beginning part of the class was really tough for me. Doesn't explain things super well when you ask questions. Gives partial credit on tests/quizzes and rounds up too. Not the best, but probably not the worst.
Genuinely one of the most knowledgeable and interesting professors! He takes time to go in-depth about each section and puts importance of doing the HW outside of the online-work! He drops 2 of your lowest quiz grades and gives breaks between the long lecture! If you're worried about how hard calc is, this class was easy to understand
Igo is a very smart man and knows what he's talking about. He doesn't curve but he always rounds grades up. Very passionate-makes lectures interesting. Tests and quizzes are just like the webwork. Drops two lowest quiz grades. Super nice and caring. More assignments at end of semester that boost your grade TONS. He's always willing to help.
Professor Jeff Igo is the best Math teacher out here in UMICH Dearborn. I am in calc 2 rn and I wish I had him because of the way he taught his materials. He gives all the possible examples for problems that you may face and it is just very helpful. He goes step by step. I never had to watch a Youtube Video but now I have to in my calc 2.
PROS: - Seems kind and caring - Lectures are sometimes interesting - Office Hours are helpful - Free homework website (webwork) CONS: - Grade is heavily dependent on quiz and test grades - No extra credit - No curve - Tests are quiz have questions you may not have seen in examples Highly recommend watching videos to help you understand more.
Jeff Igo embodies everything you dread in an educator. Not only does he refuse to curve grades, leaving students to flounder without a safety net, but he also neglects to provide practice materials, seemingly relishing in their academic struggles. Also, he conveniently disappears when students seek help, ignoring emails and leaving them confused
VERY BAD
He doesn't care about you
One time webwork crashed so I could not finish my HW and he didn't give an extension.
Just doesn't care, class is INSANELY DIFFICULT FOR NO REASON
MAKES THIS INTRO COURSE HARDER THAN ORGANIC CHEM
He makes this class is just unnecessarily hard
I wouldn't recommend taking this teacher especially if this is your first college semester. very tough grader and lecture heavy, not as caring as other professors and expects you to have all the time in the world for his class. ended up failing but I retook the class with a different teacher and got an A.
hid class made switch my major as a whole and i've cried too many times after taking his quizzes and tests because i'd try so hard just to fail
This class is unnecessarily difficult. Thankfully, tools like unstuck ai and the free textbook helped me prepare and pass. Definitely avoid if you can - the professor just doesn't seem to care.
Tests and quizzes are very difficult.
Professor Igo is a great lecturer, he's not a magician he doesn't make calculus fun but his lectures are engaging. He will joke about dairy queen DQ (difference quotient) and food in general, and you can tell he was a great dad. He's excited about calculus every lecture and he'll respond to your email at 11:45 so you can get 100% on the homework.
Very nice and wants students to succeed. I did poorly on the first test but improved by doing textbook problems, exams and quizzes are very similar. Went from 60s on the first exam to consistently scoring 90+ after just doing the textbook problems.
Terrible professor, exams are nothing like anything like he teaches in class. Offers no formula sheets no graphing calculator, no notecards, no practice exams, and just 0 help for when you have a exam. Also his study guides are completely useless.
Professor Igo is an exceptional professor. He's very smart man, he cares about his students, and offers so many opportunities to boost grades. Calculus is a difficult class, if you want to do well, you have to put in the work in your own time, and I think professor Igo does well to ensure that students have the resources to practice and excel.
He's a great professor. Not only does he love the subject he teaches, but he also makes learning more interesting with a few stories and such. Asking questions is also easy and he rounds up quiz grades. He drops the lowest quiz score I believe but that would include if you missed one. I thought the one really good review was a lie lol but it's not
