He is a good teacher and his exams are pretty easy.
nice guy... big ego at times, but he knows his stuff and has a good sense of humor.... you need to go to lecture in order to correctly answer some questions on exams, but his lectures are fun, for a chem class anyway
likes to scare his students
nice guy, good teacher... i gained a good understanding of the material but the exams were tricky and didnt reflect that, you definetly have to attend every lecture
Good at explaining chemistry and actually makes it entertaining. The tests are fair and the final is not cumulative. For chemistry, I would say he's one of the best!
I'm not sure he really understnds what he's talking about, it seems like he just memorized the text. Alright class, really boring to follow along with his notes on the overhead though and tests can be a little tricky
he's on the ball with everything and is ALWAYS available in office hours in flint. he lives in there practically. nice guy but insults your intelligence if you ask a dumb question. need to go to lecture every day to get the tricks on the tests.
He's super easy for 2045 but he's a jerk for 2046. His tests are all tricks
Although his tests might be tricky sometimes, they're not too bad as long as you go to lecture, which you should anyways, since it is chemistry. He's a nice guy, always available in his office hours, and explains everything thoroughly..good teacher!
He is hot.
He's a good teacher, has good notes on webct and he's always available to explain problems in office hours. The problem is that his tests are very tricky and even if you think you are prepared for anything it can still be difficult. Cummulative Final!
I thought that he was awesome in lecture and I enjoyed going because he is very charismatic. Always willing to help a student out. Although I do think that his tests are VERY hard and that no matter how much I studied I still was unsatisfied.
As was said above, the tests were all tricks.

Shares career/case studies to apply chemistry to real life. Test are difficult, but fair and right out of lecture. Has an ego, but is always available in office for help.
He is incredibly egotistical and will insult you if you ask for anything, but other than that, he knows his stuff. If you go to all of his lectures, you should be fine. He really likes tricky questions...
i had a really big crush on him. his tests were really really tough but i learned a lot more than i have in any other chemistry. he also backs everything up with examples and stories about work he's done. very interesting, but you have to go to class.
Best chem professor I've had. He has practical applications for chemistry and makes you enjoy chemistry. His tests are fair. He goes over many practice problems in class. His sense of humor makes the class less boring as well.
Great chem professor...lectures are very clear and if you do his suggested problems, go to class, and study...you should have no problem...his tests were challenging, but his grading scale is adjusted so he makes up for it there...
Nice guy, interesting lectures. Tests are fair. Go to office hours... it helps.
Expect to do a lot of work, but for such a hard class I think he is an amazing teacher. (A lot better than Land for those of you who had him in 2045.)
He explains difficult concepts better than any chem teacher I've had. The class is tough no matter who teaches it though. Work hard and you can make the grade.
tests are so hard,... be prepared. He goes over everthing in lecture so make sure you understand EVERTHING
Very clear, lots of examples. Probably the most accessible professor on campus.

He's very clear in lecture. Make sure to take notes and be ther for EVERY class. His test questions are VERY similar to the examples he does. Read the book, do the practice problems, go to class, take notes, and know how to do the problems he does in class...And you've got an A!
He knows what he's talking about, but his tests are extremely hard if you haven't had any chem in awhile. If you're concerned about your grade, take someone else who offers homework and more quiz points, but if you can settle with a B and really want to learn chem, take him.
Hated chemistry with Land, love it with Keaffaber. Great lecturer and had extremely interesting case studies. I would not take chm2046 with anyother teacher. Definitly take Keaffaber.
He has tough exams but they are most definitely fair. Just do the suggested problems and attend class regularly. Quizzes are pretty easy and 84.5% is an A so it's definitely do-able. His lectures are interesting...sometimes
He is an easy teacher in the sense that you do not have to go to class and still make an A. His lectures are totally uninteresting since all the stuff that he talks about is "word for word" in the book. Due to this I feel that he lacks any intellectual capability of coming up with his own examples.
The absolute best chemistry teacher. He is not intrested in being a teacher as a stepping stone like so many of the chem teachers. HE LOVES TO TEACH. and it shows. His exams are pretty tough and fair (and no i didnt get an "A"). i never had to read the book to do well. TRULY RECOMMEND
He is a very good lecturer and explains things very well in class. His tests are extremely difficult and DO NOT look at his past tests for reference because they are nothing alike. For his class, only tests and quizes are counted, nothing else to help your grade like alot of other teachers.
He is a great lecturer. In person he is kind of rude. His test are difficult.
extremely rude and jerky person. I don't know if such people are capable of teaching no matter how well they know their material. See him out of class and you will discover a side of him that is unpleasant. Some teachers set an A to be 80%, so he is still tougher in that sense. Don't take...
He never really clarified what the definition of the terms he used were before he went into the examples which I found very confusing. His lecture notes were somewhat helpful. He suggested studying past exams for the final which didn;t help at all since the final was nothing like past exams!! YUCK!
Good professor, tests are difficult but his grading system is curved. Makes class interesting with stories about his past jobs.
Probably the best teacher in chemistry and also probably the second hardest (behind Horvath)...I learned a lot and i pulled a C+ because it was hard but you could probably get an A with a lot of hard work
Dr. Keaffaber runs a good chem. class. Though his exams are tough, his overall class is very fair and very much a possible A. If you really want that A, just go to lecture, read the book, and do the suggested problems, you'll be set. I truly enjoyed his class, and believe I learnt the stuff well.
the class isn't easy - i got a C+ although i worked pretty hard at it. he's a good teacher though - very interesting and easy to understand. i don't really like chemistry and still felt okay about this class.
The best you can get as far as chem goes. He is a great lecturer, and the tests are extremely fair and reflect what you know. If you do the suggested problems at the end of the chapter you'll do fine. Going to class is not needed for an A.
great teacher explains a lot. Study his lecture notes and read the book. go to class to what is important. Do this and toull be set. An A is possible but it is alot of work.
This guy is an excellent chemistry teacher. He has vast experience in the field and explains concepts clearly with examples. He even cracks jokes and shows empathy for the students. Emphasis on lectures. Do suggested problems for extra practice. If you want to elarn chemistry, take him.
AWESOME lecturer. His tests were occasionally tricky, but because of his ex-credit policy and increasingly fair exams, I ended up with over a 100. It may happen to you, too.
Definately one of the most rude, inconsiderate, professors I've dealt with. Although sometimes helpful, he's very condescending/unpleasant. Overreacted very angrily when I asked for help, but then helped me anyway and apoligized for starting off on the wrong foot. Like Dr.Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.....
He's a great professor and knows what he's talking about. He might go off the subject sometimes, but it usually turns out to be a good story. His tests are hard, but not unfair. If you study, you can get an A in the class. Good teacher, I recommend him strongly.
One of the best professors i have ever had. He is tough and you will be challenged to understand the material but he teaches clearly and tries his best not to comfuse you. His exams are hard so if you follow his advice on how to study you should be fine. Great teacher.
This guys class is a piece of cake compared to who i had for 2045,( Dr. Horvath), i loved this class, he presents the material clearly and consicely, great dude indeed, i recommend him anyday, for CHM 2046, at least
extremely nice guy and a very good and interesting teacher
As long as you go to lecture you will do fine. He is a great Professor. He is smart and witty.
probably ur best bet for chem professor at UF..especially with Horvath out there. very interesting, informative lectures and fair tests. I just pity my friends who had other chem 2 profs and are suffering. I learned alot AND got an A w/o an overbearing workload. If u get a bad grade, u deserved it.
He was a good teacher! But you have to go to class! Its a must! His tests are challenging you do have to study a bit but you will end up with a B if you go to his discussion and do fair on the tests!
He definitely knows his stuff and it shows in the lectures. The case studies were a lot of fun to see how everything ties together to real-world problems. Test questions were occassionally confusing or tricky, so you've gotta watch yourself. Him throwing a pen at a kid's face was the best thing ever!
i loved this class! i had dr. k for another class before i took this one and when i saw that he would be teaching it, i quickly signed up for the class, even though it took place later in the evening...he's worth it! you're gonna have to work hard in his class, but he's a great teacher so the class is not impossible. oh yeah...so hot!
Tests are tricky but not impossible. Must do hw to pass the class. Great teacher, explains very well and makes the class fun.
Awesome Professor and a funny, down to earth guy. I really enjoyed his class, I would definately recommend him as a chem professor!
I had Dr. K for 2045 and liked him so much I stayed on for 2046. What a great professor... especially if you really want to learn
I just started but it's always a fun class to go to and he makes it entertaining. I love Chemistry and love having this class as a good start into college.
very good teacher. seems unapproachable at first, but a really nice guy with a good sense of humor. he's had an interesting career...working for disney and stuff. do the assigned problems, and the tests are easy.

Hard class, but he makes it seem easy

A good teacher who knows chemistry comprehenesively and in depth. One can see the passion this teacher has for chemistry through his everyday experiements and through the amount of knowledge he has of the subject. Fun teacher who gives examples of many of the chemical reactions; even the ones that are close to being too dangerous.
print the class notes from his website and you'll be fine
cool guy, requires you to know your stuff
I did really well in the class(A+). I went to class everyday(because it was interesting), and did all the study problems from the book. He is helpful and is on the students side. He is a GREAT teacher and he made me want to be a chemistry professor kindof.
Awesome teacher!
The shnizznittle bam shnippity sip sap sappy!
Fun class, very interesting. Interesting professor. Gives many helpful examples. Take him!
Take him.
The guy is cool as hell and a great professor, but his tests are a killer.
Funny, keeps you listening in class
Energetic teacher... wants to make sure you understand everything. If you have any questions, just ask him and he sets time out for you
GREAT professor, very funny and energetic, you won't fall asleep in his class! Really enjoys his job and cares about his students and that we learn what we need to know. Doesn't write impossible test questions. Some might say he's a bit overconfident, but he is never rude to his students. I LOVE his class, I highly recommend him as a professor!!
Great teacher and really funny. You dont have to push yourself to make it to class because the time goes by so quick. His tests are hard though and he doesnt always make it clear what will be emphasized. The math problems on his exams are much harder than the ones practiced.
He was an excellent teacher, his scale gives a lot of grace, and you actually do learn chemistry unlike some other professors. ladies, he's also really cute -- resembles xavier from x-men.
Cool guy, hes funny, and teaches good. Take good notes and study those notes, and youll do well.
He's the man. His lectures are usually only for pre-med and engineering students, so you may not be able to get him otherwise. The class is very informative, helpful, and entertaining. Be prepared to hear a lot of real-life examples from his varying jobs that tie in with the day's topic. Funny guy.
I hated AP chemistry in high school. But Keaffaber makes the class enjoyable. His grading scale is fair and he is helpful in office hours. Exams are fairly easy. Just go to lecture and you'll be fine.
He has a great personality, and does many interesting experiments. However, his delivery of the material that appeared on the exams was poor.
the real trick to keaffaber's class was understanding the math of all the problems. concepts were 2nd to the math so that helps if you're more of an engineering type of individual
Amazing professor! The class is easy to a point. You need to study but if you study and UNDERSTAND the concepts you will do just fine. He curves like crazy! On the final exam he gave a curve of +30 points. I ending up getting an A in the class but I had to work for that grade. He's fun and easy to understand! Great guy. I strongly recommend him.
I despise chemistry with every corner of my soul and I studied about 1/4 the time that I should have for the course, but I still ended up with a B giving minimal effort in a subject that I dread. Keaffaber is a good professor, though (apparently much more fair and straightforward than almost every other chemistry professor at UF by word of mouth)
I personally don't like chemistry that much and never had AP Chem in high school or anything like that. I went straight into CHM2045 and finished the class with an A. Keafabber is an awesome professor, he knows the material very well and he knows how to teach it. He is also not boring like most other professors.
Great teacher. explains with extreme clarity. Will explain questions/problems a million times if you don't understand w/o getting tired, upset, or belittling. exams are really fair, and math oriented. uses excellent examples b/c he used this stuff in real life.
Awesome teacher, very enthused about the subject. Has strong background.
Never took one note in class. Got an A. Very charismatic. Recommend. 5 Stars ***** !
This class is harder than his 2045 - he goes way faster than the other profs, but not too fast. I am not a good chem student so it took a lot of effort and intense studying, but I happen to like the subject so for me it was worth it. Tells funny but relevant stories about real-life applications of chemistry. He'll love you if you're engineering.
Amazing!
HE SWEARS HIS JOKES ARE FUNNY...THEY'RE NOT...ALL HE TALKS ABOUT IS DISNEY...GETS THE CLASS TO CLAP BY POPPING BALLOONS...MAKES THE CLASS HARDER THEN IT SHOULD BE...TAKE ANOTHER PROFFESSOR IF YOU CAN...UNLESS YOU WANT TO WORK FOR DISNEY...ALSO LIKES TRICK QUESTIONS
Dr. K is an excellent prof; his teaching skills are nothing short of amazing. Many complain about his case studies and lectures involving his time with Disney, but I think this kind of industrial/real-word application material actually helps us learn topics thoroughly. Tests can be tricky, but if you study diligently, you should have no problem.
Very good teacher; makes a hard class fun! However, his tests are pretty difficult and he likes trick questions. He does curve his grades on exams, though, so it's not too bad. I like his case studies and experiments in class.
Keaffaber is very fair. Do the homework, go to the lectures, and you will get a good grade.
Great teacher. His tests can be kind of difficult, but just stick with it and study hard and you'll do fine. In addition, there was no curve so be careful not to mess up. Great lectures with experiments also.
He isn't exactly easy, but he tells you exactly what you need to do to get an A. Go to class, take notes, and study those notes. Reading the book doesn't matter for his class. He is a great lecturer and likes to explode things in class :) He cares about his students and is an overall nice guy! Definately get him for chemistry if you can!
Keaffaber is the coolest. His tests are a bit difficult but if you read the book and know how to do the example problems, you should do fine. I also liked how he talked about his past jobs at Disney. It shows students what they can end up doing with their engineering/chemistry degrees. Plus, he is a lot better than Horvath.
Good guy, really nice. The key is to get a TA that will teach you the exams and then it's easy street. I still learned a lot more in his class than in Horvath's too.
Challenging course, his tests are difficult and I personally did not like his lecture style or the fact that he did not really like the textbook. However, he has his notes online and if you follow those and attend lecture 2 take notes as well you will be prepared for his exams. With that said I slacked until the Final and got a B+. Favors engineers
good professor, go to class and the worst you should do is a B.
Very Clear Cut! I took him for his first semester teaching Gen Chem 2 - class was a joke. Ended up with a very high A by simply doing text's chapter problems.
This guy is a complete gerk!! He may seem nice in lecture, but in office hours he is an arrogant fool. He thinks he is the best chem professor, but he should go back to his stupid job with Micky at Disney. Horrible professor and advisor- take someone else!!!
good teacher and funny somtimes. makes you want to go to class. if you go on fridays he tells you exactly what is on the quizzes.
It's hard to teach Chemistry...but he does the best job that I've seen Chem professors do.
Some people say he is easy, but he is NOT. Doesn't go by the book, and on tests questions come from random places in notes, (certain of parts of which demand for you to recall specific detail on seemingly inconsequential material. Lectures are clear, but tests are not. Does not curve, even when the class avg on a test is a 66. He's also a crybaby.
A great professor. He's patient, knowledgable, and always takes the time to make sure a student gets his/her questions answered before moving on.
You'll either think the class is super easy or very hard. Couldn't follow the lectures too well at 7:25 in the gdamn morning but managed to do very well learning it all from the book (great book too). Ordinary lectures are boring but his case studies are both interesting and very impressive. Clearly knows his sh*t very well.
Very educated, decent sense of humor, tough class. He's tests/quizzes are not something you can pass w/o studying. Go to exam reviews, sometimes he gives hints. Best thing to study is practice problems he recommends from book. Failed first test, studied the book and did practice problems thereafter and got an A on rest of exams. Be willing to work.
Great teacher, nice guy, really cares about the students, but his test are hard as **** quizes are passable if you study. Take really good notes don't slack go to office hours and memorize the practice test and youll be fine. You can get an A in the class but you have to work your ass off and don't miss class its really up to you how bad you want.
Getting an A requires showing up to class and putting in effort. The pace of the class is fast, but unlike the other CHM2045 teachers, he doesn't screw you on the final.
I recommend him for CHM2046, especially when the only other choice is horvath. Go to class everyday unless you want to fall behind. Tests are difficult but not impossible to get an A. Take advantage of office hours. He does some cool experiments to try and make the lectures not as boring. Definitely go to the in class review before each test.
Keaffaber was awesome. Good class to take if you've already taken AP Chemistry.
This is the best Chemistry professor I've ever had. Hard class. You must study from his notes, don't even bother with the book I never opened the textbook. Just proactice his problems over and over again and make sure you understand the material and you will get an A. Hard Tests
Easy to understand...test are very difficult. Be sure to put notes into a TI-83, Keaffaber even promotes it as a good learning tool. Make sure you show up to all classes
I dunno about everyone else but I thought his lectures/notes were confusing and reading the book cleared everything up for me...too bad the tests and quizzes came from his dumb notes :-( Definitely study past quizzes/tests because they are VERY similar to the ones he will give
Totally awesome class. If you go everyday and take notes he practically gives you the answers for the exams.
very nice teacher, helpful
Doesn't make it easy, but he explains everything well at the lectures.
You will have to work in this class no matter who you have, especially if you want to be prepped for 2046. Go to class every day, do OWL, look over past exams and you shouldn't have any trouble getting an A or a B.
By far the best chemistry teacher at UF. His exams are fair while exams given by other teachers are near impossible. Also a great lecturer and is always available for questions. GREAT teacher!
He usually teaches Chem 2 for engineering majors so course by nature is more difficult than other CHM2046 classes with differnt teachers. He explains things well and posts notes online but his tests are tricky and you must study his notes thoroughly in order to do well. Make sure you pay attention in class and stay on the ball! Not easy but do-able
I loved Dr. Keaffaber! His lectures were very interesting and he really cares about the environment. Chem II can be tedious but he breaks it down well. Tests are hard but fair. If you're pre-med/dent/vet, etc., save your energy and dignity by not disclosing this information, otherwise he may not talk to you in office hours.
This Guys class is ridiculously hard. Trust me take another teacher. You can tell he knows his stuff but when it comes to the test its not close to what you do in class.
great
Hard class, but a good teacher. Straightforward exams, just study what he gives you from the previous years and you'll be fine.
Pay attention and you'll be fine
Class isn't hard, but test questions are unclear to be understood; ex: 1953 CM^-1, can be 1953*1/CM or 1/1953CM
He explains things very well but the tests are just plain hard. Make sure you attend class and study, study, study.
Dr. Keaffaber is an excellent teacher and as long as you go to his lectures and study his class notes and past exams, you'll do fine. His tests are basically the same as in the past and are quite easy and straightforward (as long as you are willing to work for the A). He is also extremely willing to help you during office hours if you come in.
A very interesting lecturer, but a ridiculously hard class. Definitely avoid having to deal with his impossible tests unless you're engineering major and like chemistry a lot...
He is a great guy love everything about his class except the impossible test that are really tricky
The class moves at a fast pace but he has a pretty good lecturing style-doesnt use powerpoint often! Tests are pretty difficult, but fair-extra credit on each test! Likes to discuss engineering applications a lot. Very willing to help.
Amazing teacher!! Buy his packet, attend class, take notes, and study his old tests, and you should be fine for the tests and quizzes. He really knows what he is talking about, and will definitely help you if you are stuck.
First 2 weeks are intense. Basically covers the first 5 chapters. Buy test pack and do every old exam. Great for AP students. Great teacher, teaches you everything, not really focused on engineering.
Amazing teacher. If you were good in high school with chem, particularly the AP exam this class won't be too bad. I say go to class everyday and you pretty much have an A. I say this because I barely went to class and pulled a B+ but make sure you buy his old lecture notes and do every one of the old exams and quizzes.
I love him!! he is so funny and makes the material easy to learn by doing lots of problems. Take advantage of his office hours, he is willing to listen and to help with whatever you need.
Amazing professor! You will have to study hard. Attend his office hours and know him beyond the classroom. He is very helpful and will answer any questions you have. He is one of my favorite professors and I would recommend his chemistry courses to anyone and everyone.
Great professor both in the lecture hall and in office hours. I didn't really care about chemistry until I took this class. Just study hard, don't fall behind, and purchase the notepacket for the practice exams.
Dr. K is an amazing professor who managed to very successfuly teach two semesters of organic chemistry in one. If he were to ever teach a higher chem class I would be the first one to take it. Plus, he's a hottie!!
Dr. K has a zest and zeal about him that makes organic chemistry accessible, fascinating and (if not the subject, at least the class) fun! Seriously, this man is phenomenal, and his respect for the subject and the students was more than apparent with the EIGHT office hours he offered a week exclusively for questions regarding this class.
He is a very good lecturer, its a very easy class with fair tests and such. Had him for 2045 and 46 and only used the note packet, for old tests to study. Buying the book is not necessary. Tests are very fair and attendance is not mandatory, which is a major plus in my book
he is not hard
By far the best Orgo 2 teacher to take. Took him summer B... watched my friends struggle through Enholms crazy tests and just laughed. Orgo 2 is a difficult class but Keaffaber is a very good teacher and his tests are very fair and straight forward. He posts all his notes online but definetly still go to class and pay attention.
Best Chemistry Professor at UF! He takes organic chemistry and actually makes it possible to understand. Going to class isn't mandatory but he explains everything really well, so it's definitely worth it! His tests are difficult, but are completely fair and straight forward. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!
Dr. Keaffaber is awsome! He will help you, you just have to ask of course. He takes time to explain unclear concepts and draw diagrams even after I moved on to higher level classes. Nicest teacher I know.
Ok so, i've heard great things w/ him and basic chem 1 & 2, but for orgo 2- not a good call. Tests were very difficult, little partial credit given, and some of his notes/study guides were crypic. Got a pretty easy B+ in orgo 1 summer A, but had to drop orgo 2 summer B to keep the pre- GPA up. Easy to get a C/C+, very tough to get a B+/A.
Not a hard class. I got a B in the class, but could have easily gotten an A if I wanted to work for it. Be sure to buy the course packet because studying past exams is extremely helpful since he likes to reuse test questions. Going to class only helped slightly. He sometimes hint what he will put on the exam.
Teacher was extremely helpful. Would highly recommend buying the notes with the old tests in them.
Keaffaber is a great teacher, enjoyed his class. just listen to his lecture and read the book, you'll be ok. Def get the practice tests and notes guide, big help. tests are kindof hard, but if you keep on top of the work you'll be fine. awesome teacher.
Great teacher! Best tip I can give, do the homework problems that he assigns for the chapters. They always appear on the quizzes and exams!
Keaffaber is cool. Tests are hard quizzes are even harder. A lot of studying will be put into this class but they say he's better than the other chem1 teachers. Just work hard, go to your discussion period and pay attention during lectures.
Class material itself is difficult, but easy to learn if you take the time on it. But tests and quizzes are EXTREMELY hard. All quizzes and tests take the material and are twisted and make the question extremely difficult just to figure out how to do the problem. Good teacher, good explanations, but tests are very, very hard.
Challenging course. Do the practice probs before the quiz and test, some are GUARANTEED to be on there. I had an A...until the final. Exams aren't that hard..Quizzes can be tricky. He advises you to program stuff into your calculator, it helps, I recommend Notefolio for the TI Calculators. Overall you can get a good grade...if you put time in.

Keaffaber typically gives slightly harder tests than some of the other Chemistry professors but he is very good in all his lectures and explanations. Definitely attend all the lectures you can because they pay off on the exmas and without a doubt purchase the class notes he offers. You can pay attention instead of just writing.
He is good, buy the notes for the practice test. If you dont you'll probably use tutoring zone at some point, and it is just cheaper and better to have his old test. He repeats old questions a lot so do all hw and practic tests. I never read, just went to lecture and got a b. READ and STUDY and you should be able to get an A.
Had Keaffaber in Fall 2008 for chem 1 and had to take his class again this semester for chem 2. He is an EXCELLENT professor and really knows what he's talking about. I've learned a TON from him. Don't slack off or just skip class, because it will end up killing your grade. STUDY HARD and go to class and you will def pass. Made chem interesting!
I have had Dr. K for two years straight, taking Chem 1, Chem 2, Orgo 1 and Orgo 2 with him. He is certainly the best chemistry professor at UF. He makes the class interesting, it is fun to watch him. He cracks jokes, his tests might be hard, but most of all he is FAIR. No wonder I have kept coming back to take different chemistry courses with him.
Simply put AWESOME TEACHER! He is truly an inspiring teacher. Always made me want to go to class and learn. He is also very helpful in office hours. He is an absolute must if you are an engineer. I had a very minimal chemistry background going in and he has prepared me very well for success.
This man is a straight up balluh! Buy his notebook and go to lecture and that should really help. Before every test I would read the chapters once and practice his old tests/quizzes (which are very similar to what he will give you). If you do that and prepare well for the final your good. I partied all the time and got an A and I aint that smart!
Dr.K is seriously the best professor I've had during my two years at UF. Read the book, look at his notes, AND DO THE ASSIGNED PROBLEMS/REVIEW THEM!
Dr. Keaffabter is the best professor ever. He loves chemistry and knows how to explain it. Lectures are intresting and tests are fair.
this class was one of the hardest classes I've ever taken at UF, but not because of the teacher. he is probably one of the better orgo 2 teachers.
I loved him! One of my fav professors at UF. The class was not bad at all. The average for the exams were around a 65% (compared to Enholm's 40-50% avgs). His tests are really straight forward and do problems from the book, he literally takes questions straight from the homework. I got 3 A's on tests from doing homework problems.
I took Dr. Keaffaber for both Chm2045 and then for Orgo 2. He is a wonderful teacher, definitely very passionate about teaching and about chemistry and it shows through his lectures. His exams were difficult but fair and I got A's on all of them w/o the curve. Best chemistry professor at UF.
Had him for both chm2045 and 2046 (not by choice for chm2046, i did everything i could to get a different professor). I don't understand why everyone likes this guy so much. I personally could not stand him, I thought he was self righteous and did not make his lectures very clear and moved too fast and jumped around quite a bit. Tests are hard.
Not exactly pleased. I don't see what the hype is about anyway. As with most professors, teaching is his passion, not the students. Be expected to be another number.
Brand new class, so it kinda sucked. He assumes too much prior knowledge in chemistry, forgets that the class is chem 1. Decent enough personality, but, definitely not as good as the ratings have made him out to be.
This is a new class for engineer majors. Its ridiculous hard. He assumes we know everything coming into chm 1 but we don't. He goes at a really fast pace. Exams are hard.
Keaffaber is great. He takes a large interest in his students success and is willing to do many things to see his students succeed, including given tons of XC late in the year. However, this class is HARD. Be prepared to study a lot for his exams or you will fail. Study mostly from his notes, as he writes the tests. Hard class, great teacher.
AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS, especially if you aren't interested and/or don't have a background with chemistry. Class averages on the first few exams were in the D or lower range. If you want any chance of succeeding in this class, you're going to have to put some major time into preparing for quizzes and tests. He does offer help outside class.
A great class if you are interested and want to put in the effort. If you don't want to be an engineer don't take the class. Not everybody can be an engineer, so yes it's a weed out class. I barely studied and passed the class with minimal effort. Do not miss any lectures and you will be fine.
Loads of work involved in 2095, but Dr. Keaffaber is willing to help if you ask.
I had Dr.K. for oganic (CHM 3217). He is in a world above everyone else when it comes to organic chemistry. Unless you are truly a genius, I would recommended taking CHM 2210/2211 instead of 3218. He has VERY high expectations of his students. He is a nice guy and very willing to help his students, but he will never make a test easy.
Although his exams are fair, his teaching style is not so great because all he does is copy his old notes onto the board. Has very little respect for his students..
This class is ridiculous. Brand new class offered this semester for engineering majors, and nobody seemed to be prepared for it. UF really shouldn't offer CHM2095 next fall whatsoever, and if they do, don't take it unless you've taken AP or college chem previously. Keaffaber himself isn't a bad professor- just hope you dont have to go through 2095.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Chem 2095 is ridiculously hard. I studied an average of 25 hours a week and barely got a B-. The tests are way too hard. The highest score I got on a test was a 75%, which I killed myself for. I did not slack off at all and never missed a class. I gave it 200% and it was still too hard.
TZ will help you with all your needs for this class. RICH saved my grade!!!
I took him last semester for CHM2095, never went to class, and still managed a B. He is not as hard as everyone makes him out to be and is actually a good teacher. If you go to TutoringZone w/ Rich and study with a couple friends, you'll do fine. I have him for CHM2096 now and still don't go to class but managed a 100% on the first exam.
I had him 3x, and he is one of the best professors at UF. Sometimes I hear people complain about him and I am baffled. Go to class, take notes and read over them, and do some practice problems and you have a guaranteed A. That is unless you are another dumb pre-med who wants to be a doctor without having the brainpower or work ethic it requires.
Organic chemistry is a really difficult class for a lot of people, but Dr. Keaffaber makes it as painless as possible. He's always willing to help out, SO GO TO OFFICE HOURS. Make sure you do the homework (which is nearly every problem in the chapter) and ask about any questions you have. The class is difficult; Dr. K is excellent!
Keaffaber teaches difficult classes... but not anywhere near impossible ones. He's a good teacher and makes it easy for you to learn/get the grade if you want to: his classes are well-designed, he posts his own notes online, and he follows the textbook. Great chem professor!
Go to office hours, and do every problem in the book except the additional ones and youll do just fine.
He has the damn book memorized. Do all the assigned problems over and over. Also he has a notes book you can buy that has past exams and quizes. It's a must have so buy it!
Good professor, overall. He's very smart and knows what he's talking about, but is sometimes hard to follow. His lectures are helpful, so pay attention in them and read the book and practice problems and you should do well in the class. Also, the past exams are extremely helpful, and usually similar to his exams.
He is by far THE BEST teacher at UF. He is intelligent, clear, neat. I wish he was teaching analytical chem. I'm going to miss his structure. Didn't use the book at all! I never owned the book! I went to class EVERYDAY and did practive problem. God a 18/19/17 out of 20 and a 24/25 on the final! He's a great orgo 2 teacher too!
He is one of the best professors at UF. He's classes are super fun and explains very well. He has great office hours as well, very useful. If you can not get into his class go talk to him in his office and he will get you in, he is that cool. Great guy, hard class, but you will love chemistry!
He is clearly a very intelligent man and clearly knows what he's talking about; however he spends time showing us what he can do and how well he can do it instead of actually walking us through it step by step. prepare to hear "i've been doing this for quite some time, so I don't need a calculator/ write it out/ other task you can't do yet" a lot
Keaffaber is a decent teacher in that he post he notes online and does example problems in class. He is very arrogant, and he does not give adequate reviews for his exams.
Very clear lecturer, precise in every way possible. It is a difficult class, but definitely doable if you have a strong high school chemistry background. Discussion periods are unhelpful, but his lectures are great (although at times a bit boring). Great professor!
He's an awesome teacher! He's very clear in his lectures, but he does teach some stuff that's not in the textbook, so make sure you go to class. His tests are really hard, but at the end of the semester he bumped me up a letter grade. Great guy! Taking CHM2096 next semester!
Very good professor, one of the best in my opinion. He's extremely helpful in office hours and will teach you in an adequate manner, but you must meet him halfway by doing your part outside of class. Although a challenging course with tons of material to cover, he made it manageable (sort of)
I didn't think I would get an A in the class! But if you have a good chemistry background and learn the material well, he will do all that he can to give you an A. Some test questions are straight off the book, but never the ones he recommends you study. He really knows chemistry so during lecture he'll go in depth and that made me sleepy...
Dr.Keafaber is a great instructor. He is clear and makes the subject interesting. However, his exams speak differently of him. The questions are tough and because he teaches stuff that was not in our textbook it was that much more difficult. In the end, he tries to curve it to an extent that he thinks is fair. Proceed his class with caution.
Get ready to work your butt off for an A. Knowledge of chemistry and ability to illustrate/explain concepts is nothing short of amazing; challenges you to think critically. Take good notes in class and buy the Target Copy book for the old exams. Suggested homework problems are also very helpful.
Unlike most of the chem teachers,he cares about teaching. Always brings in real world examples to topics to make it interesting (although sometimes he talks about examples that are way to complicated for chem2. If you go to class/read the book/tz u should get B+ to A range. Tests are hard but he puts extra points onthem. And no hw
Really great teacher but exams were difficult. I learned so much, but sometimes felt like it was not worth the stress of getting a bad grade. His grading scale makes it kind of hard to get an A, but it is possible with a LOT of hard work.
By far the best professor I've had here! His knowledge of the subject and everything in general is absolutely astonishing! Always willing to help/ clarify things, but exams can be beastly. Office hours are great for exam studying. I studied a lot, but I never thought I was going to end up getting an A in honors chemistry 2. Dr. K is truly amazing!
Great professor!Funny, clear, and really knows his stuff!Gives real world examples which is nice but sometimes unnecessary.Goes over too much organic stuff you don't need to know. His notes book is a must (you don't even need to read the textbook). HOWEVER, tests are really hard (but not impossible). Watch out for tricks!
Extremely hard class, new offered in fall 2009I spent a decent amount studying and even had Chemistry in high school. Still suffered through the class, barely passing due to the curve
Has a genuine, beautiful, and artistic interest and approach towards Organic Chemistry. His mainstay is chemical engineering so he's all about data, but he loves the art and geometrical aspects of organic chemistry.Don't bother memorizing in his class -- you must learn as his tests favor critical thinkers.Loved the class and he's always able 4 help
Hated organic chemistry coming into this class and by the end, I somewhat enjoyed it. Dr.K is a great teacher and has a passion for Chem. He talks about Organic Chemistry as an art form & to do well in his class you must understand, rather than memorize. Also, throw the book away. His notes are so much more useful. Its a hard class but worth taking
Cool guy.
Good teacher, genuinely likes Chemistry and his students. Passing the AP Chem exam is highly recommended for this course, as it's basically AP Chem but in one semester. Would learn from again.
Keaffaber is great! Loves chemistry and clearly enjoys teaching. Really interesting and funny but knows how to put things into perspective. Knows what he's talking about and understands how to run his class, regarding exams and homework. Makes me love chemistry.
Orgo 2 is obv not an easy A. But Keaffaber provides a lot of resources to help you. He is nice and helpful. His lectures are a must- they are not boring
Orgo is not an easy class, so you do have to go to class and pay attention, but its worth it. He is very knowledgable, and he tries very hard to make sure everyone understands. If you have trouble with it, go to office hours, cancel whatever you have to, just go to office hours and he will help you understand everything.
Keaffaber is an awesome teacher and an extremely personable guy. He once helped me on lab stuff during his entire office hour slot, even though he is not the lab prof. I highly recommend taking Dr. Keaffaber- in place of tests, he gave weekly quizzes. Therefore the only real studying that needed to be done was before the final (which was 6?s).
I had him for CHM2051, chem 2 honors. He is one of the best teachers at UF hands down. I really liked his teaching style. His voice is not drone-y so it's easy to pay attention. He writes his own notes so the book is almost useless. And he completely bases his mini-exams off of lectures, which is nice. I definitely am taking him for Orgo.
One word: Awesome
Excellent teacher. Lectures are easy to follow and comprehend. If you are an engineering major take his classes for engineers: chem 2095 and 2096.
Would take again. Can be difficult but makes the class worth taking.
Great professor. Definitely a more difficult class than regular Chem II, but it is worth taking. Small class size and better teaching style were a great combination, not to mention a great professor
CHM2095- Fantastic teacher. Explains the material in great detail, giving examples and demonstrations. Keeps the class entertaining while also demanding a lot from his students. Needs a pay raise
Keaffaber is very approachable and friendly and is willing to help anyone who asks. His 'mini-exams' were extremely easy and usually did not require much studying. GO TO OFFICE HOURS (he drops hints!!). O, and go to class too because that is where your test questions come from!!!!!
If you have a solid foundation in Orgo 1, this class will be a breeze as long as you attend the lectures and do practice problems at the end of every chapter. If you have questions go to his office hours or the CLC because risking asking questions that will make you seem stupid is worth getting an A in the class. I got a 313/300 so A is very doable.
Amazing teacher, loves his job and loves talking about his subject. Very helpful in office hours and even gives a ton of bonus points throughout the year. The subject matter though, because he wrote the text, was challenging because I hadn't taken ap chem or honors chem before the class. But I'm doing fine in it now. Great Professor :)
Great teacher, nice guy. Orgo is the hardest class I've ever taken, but he makes it interesting.
This guy friggin rocks, nuff said. If he's teaching a class best jump on it quick, its an absolutely gift to have Dr. K teaching organic at UF.
So it's organic chemistry. Dr. K is the dude. Hell of a great educator and very lenient grader (possibly too lenient). Lots of extra points on top of the exams so its totally possible to earn 106%. He truly takes care of his students and cares a heck of a lot about their success. Please respect that by coming to class and always doing your best.
Overall a pretty good guy. However, you definitely have to go or you won't do well . I also found it helpful to use Study Edge; It makes what he may not be clear about clear and easy to grasp. Ultimately, I'd take the class with him again!
Great lecturer, definitely recommended that you attend class. It wasn't easy but he made it enjoyable, study edge helped to give a solid orgo 1 foundation
Took him for Orgo 2 but not Orgo1. I did extremely well in Orgo1 but his notes are really disorganized and his lectures are scattered making it really hard to grasp all the material. Study edge is a must to keep everything in line and get all the material!!
Dr. K is great! the class is hard but it's doable. Be careful with study edge because they go over a lot of things that Dr. K doesn't teach at all. Just go see his TA Cristina and she'll help you A LOT. My grade went up by 35 points after I started going to her office hours. Her and Dr. K make a great team. go to their office hours!
Ogro 2 is a hard class and i thought he made it more confusing. As soon as i stopped attending lecture and started going to the AMAZING TA's (Cristina) office hours, my grade increased a lot. He claims that he reserves the right to drop your grade if you do poorly on the final, then made the final extremely difficult!
Honestly kicked my butt the first half of the semester. TAKE STUDYEDGE WITH THIS COURSE. SAVED MY GRADE. He is a tough professor but if you work hard, you should be fine.
Dr. Keaffaber is a gifted lecturer. He is an excellent teacher, and he cares about his students. That said, he does not reward laziness. This course is difficult, but he provides more than enough resources to do well. He's a nice man, but he is also tough. You will learn organic chemistry in this course in an effective, entertaining manner.
this class is hard and his notes/lectures are disorganized. he jumps around a lot. his ta christina organized everything in a way that was much easier to understand but i'm not sure if she will be teaching next semester. his exams were fair except he took a lot of points off synthesis problems for small mistakes. overall he was okay.
Really nice guy who genuinely wants to help his students but his exams are much harder than any of the problems he does during class. Using Study Edge for practice mechanism and synthesis problems was really helpful because he doesn't give you any recommended problems to study. Definitely go to lecture!
Dr. Keaffaber was one of the most caring professors . While taking his class I had a family emergency during the first exam and he helped me get back on track. Even with his help, I got the most efficient studying done by using Study Edge. I never fell behind, and Jenn and Brett were always on top of answering questions. Practice problems galore!
Keaffaber was all together a good professor. He is a little harsh towards his students and a bit rude and pretty much told the class when we got low averages we are all stupid. He doesn't go by the textbook at all, didn't use it once. Highly recommend study edge, especially for mechanisms since he doesn't provide them. Study edge is a must.
Very slow lecturer, I found myself drifting off all the time. Only grades the exam by a few test grades and does not talk about what will be on the exam in lectures. Did give practice exams to study from, but then accused people of cheating when the exact same question was on the exam so that was strange. Take if you necessary but not recommended.
Dr.K has taught for a long time, but is also not teaching at UF anymore after the fall'16, to my knowledge. A lot material and knowledge from Orgo1. His lectures are variable than from the schedule, sometimes he takes long or rushes through. Pretty crude about the exam grades during the sem, a little rude in general. Do all practice exams!
Took class @ UF in Chem 2045 class in 2005 and received a B. Failed chemistry 2046, twice. I think he got too involved in the previous housing crisis and would always ramble about his 2nd home in California. Is super intelligent but only focused on his Epcot "living with seas" mistakes. Probably has a great retirement courtesy of steve jobs.
