Kilpatrick is an amazing teacher. Even if you don't know a single word in italian you'll be laughing and learning in the first class. Everything is spoken in italian but don't get discouraged. He is very helpful outside of clas and tests are easy if you study. There is homework alomst every night and is due the next day. TAKE KILPATRICK!
Great professor to have. His tests/quizzes are right from the notes he gives in class, he has a good sense of humor, and he let's out early often. He also gives some extra credit chances and bonus points on tests/quizzes. Definitely worth taking; the subject was really interesting too. If you can justify your answers, he usually gives it to you
No doubt, spent majority of time confused being that this is an immersed class & strictly Italian is spoken. Luckily, Kilpatrick is exceptionally good at miming. Hw every night, not hard. 5 tests, easy at first but grow more difficult. And don't be embarrassed that his kid can already speak better Italian than you. Great class, ended with an A-
He speaks almost primarily in Italian during lecture and encourages his students to do the same; however, he'll explain things if you're confused. He keeps class interesting by tying pop culture (Harry Potter, Lady Gaga) into activities. Even though Italian isn't my favorite subject, he's one of my favorite professors. Definitely take his class!
Amazing professor! I struggle with foreign language but he is extremely helpful and is a pretty easy grader. He is also very involved in actually creating a relationship with his students and a good class environment. Recommend him to everyone!!
He is the best professor i have ever had. He really cares about the students and does his best to teach us the italian language. I would recommend him above any teacher for anything, ever.
Great, great, great teacher. He's very funny and extremely helpful. Definitely take him!
One of the best professors I have had at UGA. He is incredibly helpful and much easier to follow then other Italian teachers I have taken. Highly recommended.
The other comments say it all. If you get the chance to take his class, jump on it!
Out of the three different Italian professors I've had, Jeff is amazing. He's extremely helpful, funny, and his class is fun to be in. I looked forward to going to class everyday with him.
he is awesome such a nice guy defiantly take him if you have a chance! he is pretty leanient on grades and will really help you out when it comes down to it TAKE HIM
He was great. Very helpful, personal, clear, friendly. I'm a fan.
He's just a really awesome guy. The kind of guy I would want to be friends with out of class. He's awesome at teaching; you definitely have to pay attention because he speaks almost always in Italian, and speaks quickly, but clearly. Super stellar dude, amazing teacher.
Kilpatrick is a great guy. I loved both Italian introductory courses, but especially his. He is very humorous, and although he does speak Italian the entirety of the class, he is very cool about speaking in English. He is great! TAKE HIM!
Awesome teacher. Super clear, helpful, and fair with grading. Love that he speaks Italian the whole class, it really helps you learn how to produce it instead of just reading it. Take him, you definitely won't regret it.
an absolute dream of a professor
Great professor who speaks the language well. Doesn't always take attendance, but expects you to be there. Gives good notes on the board to make the lecture easier to follow, always available for help when needed.
Great teacher. Makes the class fun and interesting. Grades very lenient. Just go to class and pay attention and you'll make a good grade.
Great Professor, Keeps your attention and grades fairly
Great teacher. Walking in I thought i would only get a B but ended up with an A-... i don't know how but I'm happy about it
Amazing professor! He is so passionate, funny and easy-going! There is a lot of hw, but fairly easy. Tests are easy if you study your notes. He is definitely the best teacher I've had at UGA.
Amazing teacher! I got him my first semester in college and he was terrific. He speaks in Italian the whole time and it really helps with understanding the language. He was very lively and excited to teach the language. He drops your lowest test grade, and if you do all the online homework, it's an easy A.
Dr. Kilpatrick is the best! He teaches in Italian, which can be confusing, but if you ask him he's always willing to help or translate. Tests aren't bad if you study. Just show up, participate, do the Connect work, and ask for help when you need it. He's really nice, funny, and looks like Patrick Dempsey.
Dr. Kilpatrick is awesome. Looking back I am so glad I took Italian with him, he's such a great professor and tries to make learning as interesting as he can. Tests are standardized so he isn't any easier/harder just simply a great professor. Would recommend to anybody taking Italian; Kilpatrick is the way to go and he made me want to go to class.
Dr. Kilpatrick is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He makes you want to learn the material! He avoids busy work and really tries to make the material interesting and applicable to daily life. If you put in some effort and ask questions, he is more than willing to help. overall, a fantastic person and educator. PLEASE take his class.
One of the best teachers I have had so far. He keeps the lectures funny and interesting. Its more practice than learning.
Jeff is an incredible professor. He's so funny, and always willing to explain stuff that might be a bit confusing at first. Class is like a combination of note-taking and group interaction. Keep up with homework and familiarize yourself with the vocab/conjugations for each chapter, and you'll do just fine. Jeff if you're reading this, I love you!3
His class is a little different than most Italian classes as he uploads video lectures of the grammar lessons to Connect. It's different at first but you get used to. He also almost always speaks in Italian but after a few weeks you begin to understand more and more of what he is saying. He is very helpful and clear at explaining the material.
Dr. K is the best Italian professor. He teaches the entire class in italian but repeats important things in english. He's funny and a very easy grader. He takes attendance maybe the first two weeks and then he never does it again. I'm taking him for Italian 2001E also.
Dr. Kilpatrick is the most awesome person you'll ever meet. His class is a relatively easy A but you'll still learn Italian and notice yourself improving every day. Excellent at explaining concepts and class is always fun and interesting. I'm in love with him and you will be too.
BEST LANGUAGE PROFESSOR! He is nice and the class is relatively easy. He will help you understand the material and is great at it. He is an easy grader and has instructional videos for every topic on ELC if you miss class.
Took online and did minimal work. Got an A easily
Amazing teacher! This class is an easy A with minimal effort but you will not set you up to fail Ital 1002. You learn so much Italian and it actually sticks with you. He makes learning fun and you will not dread coming to class.
Kilpatrick is awesome. Hes such a genuine guy and really cares about his students. Hes an easy grader and understands that everyone isnt majoring in Italian. I would totally recommend him, I would definitely take him again!
Took online. Super easy. Tests aren't even browser locked down so you can have a translator, book, and anything else you want out during the tests, but they're pretty easy even if you don't have anything out. FaceTime regularly with partners, but the conversations aren't difficult. Easy A for sure, I think I made like a 98 with like 60% effort
He is super funny and really helpful if you have any questions during class. Generally, class consists of some partner/group activities that are relatively easy. If you finish your work early, you get to leave early. Overall, it was a super easy class but I found myself getting better and better at Italian.
I really enjoyed Kilpatrick. The class wasn't difficult and I came out knowing a lot. He only spoke in Italian for the most part which was hard sometimes, but overall a very helpful way to teach. He does do a lot of partner/group work in class that's really easy (and not for a grade) and I don't think there was a day we didn't leave 10 mins early
I had Jeff for ITAL1001 and 1002. He is amazing!!! He simplifies everything, and he gives great feedback. Lectures were always interesting. They're given in Italian (slow, yet animated), but he'll repeat important things in English. He gives a practice test before every exam, even the final. AMAZING!!!!!
Amazing language professor. Tests are relatively easy and he grades very generously. Class is mostly group activities and speaking to classmates in Italian, so you get a lot of practice. This class was fun and was not stressful. If you make sure to watch his online lectures and study for tests, you will surely make an A.
He's honestly so great. California born and studied Italian so actually knows English and is really good at speaking Italian so that you can understand it. He grades really leniently and is pretty understanding of general college student needs/tendencies as well as what it's like to learn a new language. He's such a fun guy and I genuinely like him
Jeff is super helpful and really makes the class fun. Even though you have no idea what he is talking about sometimes, he is super animated and funny and makes it understandable. I really hope to get him next semester for 1002. The work is pretty easy as long as you pay attention and do the outside assignments on VHL. I really enjoyed his class!
The tests are the same as practice tests and he's a very easy grader. He's kind, funny, and interesting - he genuinely wants you to do well. He never gives you any work you're not prepared for.
Dr. Kilpatrick is an amazing teacher and extremely generous grader. I made mid to high B's on all his tests (which was low compared to all my classmates) and I still made an A in the class. I also think he must have curved his final because I know I did bad on it, but I still made a high B on it. DEFINITELY take him if you can.
Kilpatrick is known as the best Italian professor! There's weekly online hw assignments, but they're easy and short. He emphasizes trying over being perfect and gives lots of chances to practice with groups in class. He's an easy grader and doesn't give too much work. I'm literally electing to wake up earlier next semester just to have him again.
Jeff's awesome. The class is mostly interacting in small groups, so you end up speaking and learning together. He's always ready to clarify confusing material. The tests are laid out almost identically to the lower level Italians, and uses the same online book/ homework. He's a great choice!
Jeff was my favorite professor in my first semester at UGA. He lectures clearly and makes Italian easy, with an infectious energy and sense of humor. There are small group interactions during class to encourage actual speaking. He gets a 4/5 because while the main tests were easy, the final exam had material he didn't prepare us for super well.
I just finished 1001 with Dr. K and i loved his class so much. He is so chill and very funny. He is a really good teacher and makes the material easy, as well as being an easy grader. Im taking him again for 1002, take his class! Not hard and a lot of fun
He moves kind of fast, but everyday you're up moving and doing some sort of activity. You speak a lot of Italian, but he doesn't expect us to know everything. Very nice and we got out of class early almost every single day.
Very easy A--definitely take 2001 online and not in person. Kilpatrick is very kind and accessible over email/office hours. 10/10 guy
This class was simple and easy. Professor Kilpatrick was one of the nicest professors I had this semester. The class is heavy on VHL. End of unit tests aren't challenging and the class is overall great! Highly recommend.
very accessible and assigns a lot of work, but gives u time to do it.
I loved Professore Kilpatrick! I took this class during COVID, so it was obvious that his structure was different than he was used to. Lots of time was spent just working with classmates. He really cares about his students and his love for Italian language and culture shines through. Would strongly recommend to anyone! Super easy A if you try! :)
Dr. K is just as great as ever in 2001. He's knowledgeable about Italian, and speaks it regularly to get you used to it. His grading is very lenient and he seems to really care about his students. He's also pretty funny and he's accessible outside of class. Do the VHL work and participate in class and you'll do just fine. Need more like him at UGA.
Awesome! Really nice and uses a fun active class structure. Never boring. Best experience I have had in foreign language. If I were taking more I would 100% be taking his classes.
Dr. Kilpatrick was one of my favorite professors at UGA. He was always down to help outside of class and made the class interesting.
Kilpatrick made Italian so fun and easy to learn, to the point I genuinely enjoyed going to class. He does fun activities in class that help you learn easier, and has practice quizzes for each quiz. Super easy class as long as you go to class and do the homework.
Great Italian Professor. You use an online textbook for the entire course, but it's very easy to use and allows you to see your grade in progress at all times. He's a great guy and doesn't grade too harshly. Would definitely recommend for ITAL 1001
Professor Kilpatrick makes class interesting! The homework is through VHL (an online program that doubles as your textbook). There is not a ton of work every week, but I would not recommend waiting till Sunday to complete it. He is good at answering questions. I liked him so much that I am taking him next semester!
Just a really kind and caring guy. He wants you to understand and learn. He also understands that this is a beginner Italian course and has a lot of flexibility. Just do your weekly assignments, and study for the tests and you will be fine.
Best prof ever! So knowledgeable and caring, doesn't make you feel stupid if you don't get something. Very willing to help you learn whether you ask questions in English or Italian. The work is a lot of very little assignments all due on Sundays and the day before the quizzes as review. I love the format, I love Jeff, no notes. TAKE HIS CLASS!
Great guy. He is very flexible and willing to help you learn. Doesn't make you feel stupid for not understanding right away, and takes the time to explain things to you if you ask for help. Weekly assignments, and biweekly tests. I would 100% take him again and recommend him to everyone.
Professor Kilpatrick is super sweet and caring. His lectures are broken down and his notes are easy to understand. All the tests as well as the final are on VHL, so they are really straightforward. Overall, the class isn't difficult, and if you study and do your assignments weekly, it should be good.
Dr. K is the best. If you can take his class, you're a lucky one. Very friendly guy who loves what he teaches. Will answer any question and will do it in a way that makes sure you understand the content. Took him for 1001 and will be taking him for 2001 as well. Can't say enough good things about this guy and how he sets up the class.
Best Italian professor out there. Dr. K is undoubtedly the guy you want to take when taking ITAL 1001 or 1002. His class is 100% through VHL, and the site is super easy to use and you can do well in the class very easily. Take him for any Italian classes he potentially teaches.
This was my second time having him as my professor and if I could have him for a third I would. He is very good at explaining things when you have a question. Everyone in my class loved him. There are weekly assignments and test every few weeks, but he is very lenient in grading. I couldn't recommend him more!
Class was easy and he was very understanding that we were learning and not fluent. Very nice and easy grader!
Before every quiz there is a very similar practice quiz and the homework is online and very easy. Lots of memorization but that is it, he is very nice.
Loved this class so much. He is very lenient with grading and also very open to helping outside of class. He teaches the majority of the class in Italian but will explain/repeat in English when necessary! Attendance isn't super restricted but generally you want to go to every class if possible. Will be taking 1002 with him if I can!
Professor Kilpatrick was 10/10! While the class was easy, I still learned so much! He teaches his lectures in Italian but is very good at switching to English when we seem confused. His classes were engaging and funny! There was an attendance policy, but he's understanding if you explain your situation. The homework assignments were very helpful!
He was so nice, but the class was so difficult. If you have taken spanish previously then I don't think it will be as hard. It is very fast paced and I had a hard time comprehending. It is definitely not an easy A like everyone says. If you have not taken any other language previously I would recommend a different culture or language class.
Great professor! I struggle learning languages so having a caring and relaxed professor was extremely helpful. There is a lot of homework but every italian class has the same homework, so don't factor that part in. The content is hard to learn but if you put in the effort you will do well!
Kilpatrick is easily the best teacher in the Italian department. take this class if you want a good grade.
learning italian was hard but he was a good teacher
I really did like his class, I do think that this Italian is just harder compared to the first one. The grammar rules are harder to wrap your head around. It has the same structure as Italian 1 so no surprises there. I think the professor is a great guy and he is great at finding different ways to explain something.
My favorite professor I've had at UGA. Take him if you can.
Loved Dr.Kilpatrick. He is understanding and his lectures reflect what you will be tested on. He will take the time to make sure his students understand what is being taught.
Dr. Kilpatrick was great, he knows so much about Italian and is very organized. "Quizzes" (basically exams) throughout the semester as well as some projects, all connected to the online platform "VHL". Take him if you can, he's great.
Amazing prof, this was my second class with him and now I am signed up for his 3rd one over the summer. Definitely the best choice for Italian. I would take him over the others even if he only had an 8 am. He makes class fun and he puts in work to make it enjoyable for everyone. Such a kind-hearted, caring, and intelligent professor.
Best Italian teacher you could take. He is so understanding and nice, I genuinely enjoyed going to his class.
Really nice, lots of vhl. Overall pretty easy thought.
If you have the opportunity, take Dr. Kilpatrick! His lectures are amazing. While the lectures are in italian, he is very conscious of the comprehension from his students. I have never been confused in this class. He makes learning a language very engaging, interesting, and enjoyable. This is my favorite class! Take Dr. Kilpatrick!
All of the Italian Professors are great, however Kilpatrick is the best professor I've had, specifically for Italian! His lectures are pretty interesting and interactive, he is a light grader. Quizzes are basically weekly but they're very easy if you take like 30 minutes to study for them. Not to add, he's super nice and always willing to help.
I am currently in his Italian class and he is great! I would definitely take him! He is very enthusiastic and he does a great job at explaining the material. The class is taught fully in Italian and does require work outside of class to improve.
He is so kind and funny! He does speak mostly Italian in class, but it's pretty easy to pick up. Gives a vocab quiz or grammar quiz each week depending on the week. Only one final exam and two very simple projects that take like 10 mins. Super easy class as long as you show up and keep up with textbook assignments.
I've taken Dr. Kilpatrick for ITAL 1001-2001 and I cannot recommend him enough! He's a very nice person and grades fairly for all assignments. The course consisted of 5 grammar and 5 vocabulary exams (on paper), VHL work, projects + reading through a book during the last month. There's a decent amount of partner work, but he makes it fun.
