Challenging and engaging.
Not afraid to engage. Very personable.
not organized, very UNhelpful, would never take a class with him again
demanding. fair. organized. really cares. young. energetic. excellent.
Amazing.
Extremely talented and intelligent yet humble

Unique teaching style + youthful enthusiasm, more profs should be like him

Not afraid to challenge traditional teaching methods! Refreshing change at WLU!
The class is rewarding if you are willing to work hard to earn your mark.

Facilitates great discussion and encourages reflexive thinking.
Super professor!!! I never had a more passionate teaher at the University. Students who are bitter towards his classes are more than likely not trying or are not doing well because of their own lack of...and p.s the jargon is called sociological lang.

Very organized, really knowledgeable -- about many different things! Personable and caring, and charismatic too -- love his red wings jersey!
INSANE FINAL; DID NOT ENJOY CLASS AT ALL

Great class - - - He is one of the HOTTEST profs' at WLU. lOVE his awsome teaching style!
Worst professor ever. Blah Blah Blah.......Try teaching without overheads
Too bad he is gone.....would have taken any class he taught
best teacher i have ever had and one of the smartest i have ever encountered.
Taught me how to see the world in a totally different way!!! Extremely intelligent and engaging!!!
Didnt teach any of the course. Only cares about his own writings...which arent that good to begin with. Wants everyone to think just like him and allows no room for your own opinions. Hes too inexperienced to have this know-it-all attitude.
One of the most enlightening professors I've ever had, I definitely recommend any of his classes. He challenges students to think outside the parameters of regular sociological thought. Again, an awesome prof!
He wasn't very helpful with questions people had concerning assignments, took up to a week to respond, and was slow posting marks.

Lectures were always interesting, and the prof. had a great sense of humor -- he's extremely smart and can be wickedly funny. Was always willing to listen, and he encouraged great debates in class.
worst professor ever, i swear he sat on a beach all summer and forgot the class. Never replied to e mails, very unhelpful and then marked us super hard. Lectures said : read assigned chapters and make notes....horrible for distance ed
Terrible! I can't stand his classes! He has no idea what he's doing and has no clear point to his lectures. He can't controll a class and covers the same topics repeatedly. He doesn't challenge students at all so it's pretty easy...I'm talking cheat sheet for MC tests easy. I will be so glad if I never have him again!
I liked the topics in the class and Klaehn was really passionate about everything. Sometimes it was hard to follow him because of his tangents and random slides, but underneath all the chaos you could tell he really wanted the students to do well. You can bring in a cheat sheet to all the test too! I hope to take one of his classes again.
Jeff is an awesome prof! I always look forward to taking one of his classes. He allows 1 page front and back of notes for most of his test, which makes the students study their material! He is very refreshing compared to the boring lectures I usually have! He has a good personality, makes information easy to comprehend!
Very helpful professor, kind, and understanding to students. Crystal clear lecture style! A great teacher and a stand up guy! A++++
A really cool guy. Kind of swayed away from course material but he told cool stories and posted slides online so you didn;t really have to go to class. Really easy marker and he told you exactly what questions/topics were on tests/exams.
awesome prof. really into making current-media references, which is pretty funny as well as being engaging. great taste in music, too. class gets a bit slow at times, but he usually breaks it up nicely. :] great.
Incredible prof - He knows his stuff!
Dr.Klaehn is an amazing Soc. Prof. He is extremely helpful and is passionate about his students. He encourages students to make connections of thier own interests to aspects of sociology, which is seen in essay assignments. Work ethic is key in his class, so it is advised to put your best foot forward.
We had group presentations by students all semester. His comments were just really entertaining and funny and made everyone laugh. If you go to class that's good, if not he posts stuff on myls so you're still good. He is clear on what you will be tested on for midterm and exam as he gives you the questions that will be on it - if you go to class.
Jeffrey is one of the best profs I have had. The amount he cares for students is amazing, he wants all of his students to do well - would even give us some midterm questions to be prepared. No other word to describe but amazing!! Would definitely take again. Posts every slide online as well
You're tested on your ability to remember useless stats and answer opinionated questions, barely tested on the actual sociology. I would've enjoy the course a lot if not for his extremely unreasonable testing methods.
His instructions are extremely vague and lengthy and then he will get down and tear apart your work to a gnitty gritty level. He does no actual teaching of anything and the grading schematic for his classes are awful and set you up for failure. Not to mention the 4 textbook requirement and the most expensive one is over and done with in 2 weeks
He takes time to give constructive feedback on all writing assignments - cares to see you succeed and do well. If you reach out with any questions/comments he will reply to your e-mail right away. Took KS205 really enjoyed the content, thought it was a great class and had fun taking it. He helped out the whole way, would definitely recommend him!
I took Dr. Klaehn's Comic Studies course, and I found it to be one of the best classes in my program. He is inspirational and encourages use of our own passions when writing. He's caring, but I would advise seeing him during office hours, where he usually gives extra direction. I found his lessons on Jack Kirby fascinating and I miss them the most.
Dr. Klaehn is an amazing professor. He is so knowledgeable, friendly and passionate about his subject. He is fun to talk to, and provides really good insight, and real world experience behind each of his lessons. He genuinely cares about his students, and encourages you to think outside the box. I encourage anyone to take his classes!
Lots of work but he gives a lot of feedback. Wants students to be interested in the material. Average marker
Good guy. Good prof. No need to buy the textbook! Lots of writing but the material is interesting.
Unreal professor, makes class interesting and is willing to do just about anything to engage the class. He is also just a genius.
He barely lectures and gives 8 readings per week and expects you to read them all. Tough marker although he gives lots of feedback.
I had him for social inequality and love him! He also gave great lectures, very humble and thought provoking. He cares about his students and if you put in a reasonable effort you will pass. Easy to get a good grade.
Worst Prof i have ever had, stop talking about ur scholarly works of writing and teach me something !!!
Really good prof that students can learn a lot from. Come to class and pay attention if you want to get the most out of the course.
The course was reading heavy but Jeff made an effort to make it interesting. Often times he would go on rants which did complicate some of the key concepts but he was always super helpful when you asked for it. Emailing him for insights on assignments was incredibly helpful as he would always give examples and ideas to guide you along the process.
This prof is amazing. Clear, concise and works to help us achieve a higher level for yourself. Would highly recommend. Do the work and it will pay off in more ways than just this class, our future. This prof wants us to be the best we can and will set aside time to explain in more detail to help us achieve what we are capable of.
Amazing! Learned so much and enjoyed the classes
AMAZING!
Great prof! He teaches very well and really cares about his students. Lectures are very interesting and he encourages questions and discourse in class.
He was great! I struggled slightly with my paper and he was so engaged and interested in helping me. Praying i have him again one day.
His instructions were so unclear and if you asked him to clarify he would just repeat what was in the syllabus. ZERO feedback on all assignments and for the midterm he expects you to write 3 developed essays in 90 minutes and 5 in 120 minutes for the final. He seemed kind but was not good at teaching online. Also the amount of reading was inhumane.
Restored my hope in profs. He genuinely cares about the success of his students in the class and goes above and beyond to make sure they do well. Anyone who complains about him didn't read the instructions and probably got a bad grade from their own mistakes & a lot of the time the complaints are for things out of his control(test length + content)
Incredibly rude and overall awful professor. Worst prof I have ever had. Whatever you do, do not take his classes!
Insanely unreasonable prof. Took the online course and was the worst experience of my life with a professor. I'm am an 11 GPA student Please for the love of god don't take any course with this prof you will regret it.
Jeff was an amazing prof! He always gave students the opportunity to participate, ask questions, and share their thoughts in class. He was very accessible to answer questions about class content and assignments. He clearly cared about his students and went out of his way to make sure everyone was clear on the content.
Jeff is a fantastic prof! Makes a world of difference if you're actually interested in the material and trying to improve your own skills! He was always willing to help and answer any questions!
His teaching style is not the usual 'follow along with the slides lecture' but provokes meaningful and genuine conversations about the subject. You can tell he is really passionate about his work and really cares about his students. The best office hours I have been to ever so make sure to show up to those. Amazing prof!
The best prof I have had my entire time at Laurier! He is caring and encouraging, show the slightest bit of interest and he will give you his all to ensure you are supported and understand the material. His classes are essential in passing the course and there are numerous readings, however he listens to his students needs & will always compromise.
This guy just rambles and rambles forever. Nothing is clear. You never know what you're supposed to do. Awful.
He acts like teaching isnt his job and that it is a crime to give more clear instructions. Useless professor in my opinion from what hes shown and through emails. Wouldnt ever want him as a prof again
Dr. Klaehn has been an amazing professor! He is extremely caring about his students and very very passionate about what he is talking about in lectures. He checks emails frequently and is more than happy to give advice or feedback on papers. His AF105 course can be one of the best classes to take if you let it!
While this course was insanely hard, I respect Jeff like crazy. He made advertising studies interesting and I want to work in this field now. We covered so much content it's insane - anything from 1800s ads to bits in a bizarre cult classic like Wayne's World. I don't like doing presentations but he is an interesting guy and shares great stories.
Spends weeks of the class time asking students what he should put on the midterm. Wastes a lot of time and only teaches and tests from the textbook. Not sure what he actually brings to the table as this class was completely self-taught.
It had a lot of work but if you put in the effort then you can get through.
Fourth year student took his class as an elective and was extremely disappointed. There is absolutely no feedback from your unit assignments, he does not even write his own tests, causing confusion as the questions were not even from the same textbook!!! His responses via email were poor and overall just not fit to be a university professor
I think many negative reviewers for this prof/class simply dont like the class structure of an online class. Prof was reasonable about a test mixup and was responsive to emails. Not much feedback on assignments but tests were fair. Would definitely take a class with this prof again!! P.S. This class is NOT a bird course!!
Truly the best professor Ive ever had. Cares about his students so much and actually wants them to do well which is something I cant say for many profs. Teaches interesting content and evaluations are definitely fair. Most people who review him poorly are often those who choose not to do the work then blame him. Amazing prof, restored my faith
Took CC311 for Fall 2021 online. Literally not a single lecture, the course is reading about a 25 page chapter from the textbook each week, haven't even heard the guy speak. Myself and other classmates found that his assignment guidelines could be unclear and it was hard to tell what he wanted. The material in the textbook is interesting
Jeff was an extremely passionate teacher. I am minoring in sociology and don't know a lot compared to most sociology majors yet still did well. A lot of readings but the tests were long answer based and very straight forward if you put in moderate effort. Learned a lot and he truly cares for the students. Would happily take another course with him!
Definitely cares about his students. He is super accessible through email and is willing to help with assignments if you reach out. He also constantly asks for feedback on how to improve the course. Jeff is very passionate about sociology, and it shows in his method of teaching. If you can take a sociology course with him, do it!
Jeff's courses are ones I'm always quick to enroll in. He is knowledgeable and helpful to students. Easy to reach by email, he has been able to thoroughly answer any question about the course material. I would recommend him to anyone looking to take sociology courses.
Jeff is definitely the most approachable professor I've ever had. Really cultivates a classroom environment that makes you feel welcome. Lectures do tend to digress into rants sometimes, but you can tell it's because he really cares about what he's teaching and has deep personal feelings about the material, connecting it to other things in life.
I have taken two courses with Professor Klaehn, and enjoyed his teaching style. He motivated me to keep learning and I would recommend his courses.
Jeff has a very casual and approachable teaching style that is endearingly punctuated with an obvious care for both his students and the material. I really enjoyed how he structured learning throughout the course--everything was clear, and important info was constantly accessible. He made it easy to learn everything required!
Absolutely great profesor! Very helpful, and considerate. Always eager to engage the class, would definitely recommend!
Good professor! As long as you read the material you'll get a good grade, plus he's super caring when you ask for his help
Always quick to respond to emails & encourages you to talk to him if you need help. Overall very approachable & genuinely wants his students to do well. Some students didn't like the lecture-based exam questions, but at a certain point, why are you paying thousands of dollars to get an education and not going to class? Work hard, get results.
Very genuine and accommodating prof! He actually cares about his students' success beyond just doing well in his class. Gives out a lot of reading material, however, it's relevant to the course, and most of it is optional. Overall, he's a really great guy, and would recommend having him as a prof!
Good lectures very helpful with assistance on tests and essays.
Professor Klaehn is an amazing prof. I highly recommend him. There are not enough words to put in here to describe. He has such a unique teaching style that allows students to feel comfortable to critically engage. He truly cares about your success as a student.
He is a great proof, super understanding. Flexible with assignments and willing to give extensions when needed. He cares about you as a student and once you take one of his courses you will see how much he engages with his students. He treats them like family.
Professor Klaehn was able to teach excellently and put emphasis on student engagement to enhance learning. This class was easy to keep up with and all tests were fair. The content was interesting, especially with the additional slides Professor Klaehn teaches which demonstrate real-world media to invoke higher-level thinking. Highly recommend!
The goat.
This prof would never get through his lecture slides and would never post them either. Most of lectures were tangents about songs or movies, which for some reason included on tests and exams despite their low relevance to the course. Lots of lecture content was on tests and extrememly specific details about guest speakers were on them as well.
Great class, would take again! This prof is always asking for feedback to make his class better but usually doesn't take it into account. He hardly ever gets through his lecture slides and is always getting sidetracked telling stories about his personal life. Highly reccomend!
Jeff is a great prof, cares a lot about his students and truly wants to see them all do well. Always willing to help when you reach out and marks very fair (especially if you write about topics which you show you are interested in)
Professor Klaehn is an amazing prof. He has a unique teaching style that encourages critical engagement. Stay on top of the readings, and check out unstuck study - it really helped with prep for this class.
Passionate but hard to follow for an soc 101 course. Benefits those familiar with the concepts already, does not convey the ideas well to a new audience.
Very knowledgeable prof, but tends to be unorganized in his teaching and does lectures that don't relate to the course material. Expects undergrads to be able to produce the same level of work as him. Finally, he seesaws between wanting students to be creative and express their own ideas, and wanting us to follow his topic ideas for assignments.
Jeff is the best prof point-blank-period. He genuinely wants his students to succeed and learn. Most intellectually and personally rewarding classes I have ever taken in my LIFE. Lean into the content and really try to engage creatively to get the most out of his courses. Highly recommend.
He's alright, but he doesn't provide any rubrics for essays and the tests we have as well. He gives ambiguous feedback when you ask him for it. I would not recommend him if you don't have to take him.
Professor Klaehn is hands down one of the best professors at Laurier. SY210 will completely change how you think about media and power. His classes are highly engaging and discussion-based, but enjoyable, and make you want to show up and participate. He treats students like people, respects different opinions, and encourages critical thinking.
I really enjoyed SY210. Professor Klaehn is clear with his expectations and the route to success in this course. Attending class and providing meaningful work will be rewarded. In this class you will get what you put into it, and Professor WILL help you if you reach out and ask questions. Attend class, read, and ask questions.
