Part (i) of (ii) comments: He's kind of overrated. Yes, as a faculty member, I really appreciate his participation in many student affairs. But as a lecturer, there's really nothing exceptional. Good lecturer, tough material makes the class itself hard. Jeff makes it a little bit harder by asking some very tough questions on the exam. His midterm was the hardest test I had at sauder. Great guy, low marks. Student beware

Only a month into his class and already a few things are painfully clear: atrociously unclear lectures and notes that are equally as bad. Hes unapproachable and likes to leave as soon as class ends. Avoid him. Period. No idea why hes teaching.

The first midterm just finished tonight. It was difficult because he asked some new types of questions in exam which we have not practiced at all in class or self study problems. Yes, I am talking about product margin. Jeff may thought that we know how to calculate contribution margin from class , then we magically know product margin as well.. NO!

Grades on whether or not he likes you. Guy has the biggest ego Ive seen in Sauder, probably gets paid a six figure salary for flaunting his ego around and acts like he cares for the sake of getting his ego stroked later on. Jeff, this is a cost accounting class, not a networking session for you to find new investors. Teach properly.

Not sure why people call him a "Sauder legend" when he is clearly a prof that doesn't know how to teach properly at all. Does notes on the overhead and his writing is so messy like a kindergartener's. Invites useless speakers to come to class for him to brag and waste class time. Then, he rushes through course notes making us clueless at the end.

Really enjoyed the class. However, it is still a difficult class. Sometimes he brings in alumni to chat about their careers, and in those classes, he tends to rush through the notes. Jeff is amazing. Probably my favourite professor at UBC so far. Lectures were super engaging. Go through the problems done in class and make sure you understand each one; if you do, then you should be good for the midterm/final. For personal study, I found that organizing lecture notes by topic (which are labeled in the course package) was useful.

Kroeker is no doubt a Sauder Accounting legend who has connections spanning decades. His exams are much more lecture based and "regurgitatey" to what he might insinuate during classes. My biggest con however is that I felt he chose "favourites" with bias that he thought were more worth his time than others, it really rubbed me the wrong way.

Jeff's teaching style feels outdated. He doesn't post completed slides and extra study resources are rare. He rushes through slides, only providing final answers and oral explanations, which benefits only a small group who excel no matter the method. Students who don't immediately grasp the material in class are at a significant disadvantage.
