Very confusing! Gives pop quizzes, and hard tests. I didn't learn a thing all semester from him.
Loved this class. Study for the tests and you will do fine. Quizes are not graded; you get the points for taking them and they are then used as study guides for the tests. Not afraid to express his political opinion. He wants his students to do well.

He must have been different 2nd semester than he was 1st... he was horrible 1st semester. I did not learn a thing, besides what I learned about Jamaican karst...which he never tested us on. Our pop quizzes were graded and a lot of people ended up getting D's and F's on the 2nd test. He was very unclear on what he wanted but there was little hw!
AWESOME PROFESSOR! He wantsyou to do well in his class and it shows. As long as you study for the tests you will do fine. Going to class is optional but highly recomended because you will miss things that are not mentioned in the book. There are some suprise lab quizzes but are easy if you pay attention. He even cancles labs and lecture sometimes.
Awesome prof. Really fun guy and easy to talk to. He cracks jokes in class but still provides you with plenty of information about the subject. In my class it was just 3 tests during the semester, mult choice and they're not too bad, just study all the powerpoints. Labs are never 2 hours long.
I know I only had him for Earth Environments, but he was a pretty great teacher. No homework except for lab assignments. Labs overall are a breeze, just watching videos and a few easy quizzes. His tests are very easy as well. He is very flexible with turning in things; I forgot to print out a lab assignment to turn in, and he let me email it to him
Class was ok, when it was held. Nothing great, but a needed course.
He's a nice guy. I took this class for my science credit and it wasn't bad. Class was a bit boring but if you studied the notes for class, you did ok. Labs for this class were awesome. He cancelled them a lot, when we had them we mostly watched movies or look at maps and they got let out early almost every time.
Hes a cool guy.....just attend class, take notes and you will be fine for the course. his test are easy and his essays are easy
Jeff is a great professor! He's hilarious but you still learn a lot in this class! He tells a lot of stories about places he's traveled and you can tell he really cares about the environment. There was one group project in this class but it was really easy! Wouldn't recomend skipping class! You watch a lot of cool movies anyway!
Great guy!! Gives you a chance to do well in his class if you give some effort
Unorganized and unclear, Mr. Kueny is not a good teacher. He tries and is funny but that's about it. Would not recommend if you want to learning anything.
This class was so boring! He just mumbles a lot and badmouths his ex-wife. All he does is read off of powerpoints every day and you fill in your notes. Easy but boring.
Must go to class because he leaves blanks on the notes, be sure to print those off. His tests cover way more than you go over in class so READ READ READ!
Kueny is great, definately one of my favorites. He bad mouths his ex wife and tells jokes which are always funny. He encourages you to read the book but you don't have to. Gives you 1 of the 2 essay questions and some multiple choice questions to help study for the test. You need to go to class because the notes on D2L are incomplete.
funny guy, good class with interesting content
Fun professor, boring material. Fairly easy exams as long as you study. Lecture is not mandatory but suggested because his notes are incomplete on D2L. Bashes his ex-wife a little too much but tries to makes jokes that relate to us college kids. Overall, interesting class.
Interesting teacher. Tests are multiple choice. They can be difficult but he adds points to make it fair. Showing up is important, he lectures on material that isn't in the notes that he posts on D2L.
Overall a cool guy. Definitely laid back. You can get on his good side by participating in class discussions. His lectures seem somewhat disorganized, but once you figure out his teaching style, you're fine. Don't take if you don't want your entire grade based on 3 tests.
Do not take this teacher if you are looking for an easy gen ed class. He is VERY open about his political views, and makes anyone who is conservative feel like their points are invalid. He is very narrow-minded and definitely takes favorites. I was even on his good side, and I hated him. I would NOT recommend this class.
Even though Kueny does do some of the things written below, you can tell he's a good guy. You do have to go to class to get the notes, don't always have to read the book, and he gives subtle hints about what will be on the test. He is actually genuinely interested in what he teaches about, which makes me care.
He is quite funny, class is somewhat confusing show up and pay attention and a bc is very doable
He cares what he's teaching about but he brings his political views into the class and makes going to talk to him for clarity or help intimidating. Tests are kinda hard and you have to show up to get notes. Also makes rude and inappropriate jokes but he means well. Average teacher overall.
Cool guy, very laid back, cracks jokes, tests are kind of hard, but if you study for a few hours you will get an A or B on them for sure. You NEED to attend class however, makes you fill in notes. Gives you hints on tests and such. Overall, he is decent.
very ambiguous. class seems to be a joke. cannot make up his mind. Doesn't respect kids. very opinionated. Overall, he is confusing. Funny on occasion.
I LOVED him as a teacher. He had a very dry sense of humor and doesn't sugar coat things, he'll tell you what's up. The tests are average, if you study you'll do fine. I highly advise having him as a professor.
I learned cool things about La Crosse's history
He is a funny proffesor. All of his class notes are on powerpoints that he puts on D2L, but he leaves gaps so going to class is important. The information can be a bit confusing, but he teaches the information well.
HI expectation for what you need to know on the tests seems a little unrealistic especially for a 110 class. Also It was repetitive and boring to listen to him drag on reading off the power points day after day.
Don't take him. It's like taking a class from an iguana with ADHD. you don't know what he's saying and he can't stay on track for more than 5 minutes without rambling about something meaningless
Jeff is a nice guy but the class is really boring. It seemed a lot like a history class and it got really long some days. Gives you a ton of information prior to tests and there is way too much to remember for being a gen ed class. Liked Jeff, but wouldn't recommend the class.
Most scatter-brained professor I've ever had. Soooo boring
Terrible teacher
He is incredibly off topic and throws tons of facts at you and expects you to know lots of comparative type knowledge between countries you talk about for on average of 5 minutes; unless, of course, he has a very uncomfortably suggestively tinged to story about what he did in that part of the world.
horrible. reads off of the powerpoints, gives wayyy too much info before tests. tests are impossible even if you study. likes to ramble on about the most random things and is super boring. i wouldn't suggest him for this class.
Awesome professor!Tests are straight from the power points and he is clear about what is important and what isn't. Funny and keeps lectures interesting.
Labs/lab quizzes are very hard. He is always eager to help and answer your questions, but make sure you understand everything about the lab and how to do it, or you will not have a clue on the quizzes.
He gives WAY too much information and is unclear in his descriptions while lecturing. He will pick broad and very specific things to put on his tests. My class never does as well as we all expect. I love cultures, but this class was painful to take, which says a lot. Great guy and wants to be helpful, but hard to study for his tests.
I had Kueny for both 110 and 200. I liked him much better in 200 - I think because I learned his style. He is pretty disorganized, sometimes basically reads off the slides, but if you learn how to study it's not so bad. READ THE BOOK and listen to what he emphasizes in the lectures. Overall if you go to class you'll be ok. Entertaining but silly!
Made the class more fun with funny comments throughout class. Pretty easy if you go to class just read through the powerpoint slides and will be fine. Map quizs that are very easy
I agree with most that he is confusing at times but his passion for the subject helped to keep things interesting.
Very interesting class/lab since this man has an obvious passion for the subject. Makes it interesting. Pretty funny guy, makes ya laugh. Tests on powerpoints he gives, powerpoints on D2L. Random Iclicker questions in class for participation however.
All I did was take the notes and pay attention in both of his classes and came out with B's. He's a funny guy who is very passionate about what he does so that makes class entertaining
Jeff is absolutely hilarious, he always likes to crack jokes... Especially about his ex-wife. However, he likes to jump around with material a lot. His Lab exams were hard, only roughly pertaining to the labs we did in class. Not to mention 2 of them were only 10 points so it didn't take much to get a bad grade.
Worst class I've taken. This lecturer is all of the place.
His exams are impossibly difficult. You get told you will be tested on concepts, when in reality many questions will ask about statistics he mentioned once. Too much material is on each exam, and no matter how much you study you will not get past a B. Even if you work hard, achieving in this class is too difficult. I would not recommend him.
this professor isn't good. he knows what he is talking about, but is not able to explain it and hard to understand. definitely scatterbrained and makes dumb jokes. i would not take this class again for a gen-ed if i had the choice.
Jeff is a pretty good professor. He is laid back, he even asks you to call him Jeff. He is not the most difficult professor, but he has long lectures that can get pretty boring. He tries to make class more enjoyable by making jokes, and he tries to make students feel comfortable with the material. Good professor.
This is the most scatterbrained professor I've ever had. If you have to take this class, take it with someone else. He hardly ever stays on topic and often rants about his ex-wife and kid. He expects you to know everything from 3 or 4 100 slide powerpoint for exams even if he hasn't made it through all of them.
He is without a doubt, the worst teacher I have ever had. He forces his opinion on subjects into the lectures where they don't fit and shouldn't be and then takes points off when you don't specifically agree with him when you have to write your own opinions. Very unclear about what he is looking for & recycles old powerpoints without updating stats
He's ok. He thinks he's funnier than he is, but that's his worst quality as a teacher in my opinion. His lectures are pretty boring and feel long. There's not a lot of participation in class, so you could probably just look at the powerpoint online and do just as well.
Great Teacher, show up to class and take notes and you should be fine. If you miss a few classes that's okay, he posts notes online and they're clear cut
He's the worst professor I've ever had. If you enjoy listening to a professor rant about his opinions, make jokes that aren't funny and belittle students for not understanding, go ahead and take him. He's arrogant and disrespectful and will go over time on his lectures.
The professor was terrible and was not helpful at all. He didn't seem quite right in the head and even took smoke breaks in class, coming back in reaking of cigarettes. It seemed everything he taught and everything we took notes on wasn't even on the quizzes. Honestly everyone just sat down with their phones ready to google everything on the quiz.
Very lecture heavy class. Most of the content discussed in class is not on the quizzes/exams so you have to learn most of the content on your own.
He is very scatterbrained and makes it very hard to follow along or pay attention in class. He lectures for the entire class period and you never know what he is talking about. Makes too many jokes at random times. Lecture slides are 100 pages long and nothing you learn in class is what is tested. The very few things I learned were not onthe exams.
This class was literally a joke. I learned absolutely nothing in this class because he is all over the place with his lectures. His slides are so incredibly long and he would stay on the same slide for about 4 days. It's easy to get a good grade but I felt like I was wasting all of my time and money.
Although the class was boring Jeff made it interesting by his passion for the subject. He wants all his students to do well and assures you that if you're not doing as well you'd like to talk to him and he will help you. Tests are online, map take home quizzes-if you fill in most of it you get the credit.
Be prepared to stay on your toes all semester because this professor is all over the place with his work. It seems like more times than not he is not to sure on what he's talking about himself, making the class more difficult than what it is. Exams were also taken place online, making this class quite simple.
Jeff cares about his students, and it definitely shows. Wasn't the hardest class but Jeff is passionate about the material making everything more interesting. Definitely worth taking this class, or any class with Jeff.
World Cultural Regions is an easy class if Jeff is your professor. Just pay attention in lectures, take the exams online, and turn in whatever else on time in class, and you shouldn't have a problem getting an A, while also learning a thing or two about the world around us.
Nothing
boring class overall, long and heavy lectures with little class participation and/or projects. An average amount of tests.
The powerpoints he uses are usually 100 slides and he dosen't put them up on D2L but honestly don't help you study for the test. So you have to read the book to get the information. The tests are ok if you read the book and show up to class. He will say you will get out early but its only 5 minutes. He is funny sometimes but very sarcastic.
Very easy. Put in a little effort youll get an A
Kueny seems like a very nice man outside of the classroom. However, he is very unclear and such a scatter brain. Every class was a lecture and each power point have around 120 slides. He gives you a 2 minute break and doesn't follow his syllabus. If you read the textbook, you should be fine, but you have to work for it. I wish you luck.
Lectures are long and boring. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you want to do well on the test you have to go. Tests are hard with questions that are sometimes unclear. Overall, he isn't organized and is very scattered. Due dates and test days are not clear even though they are written on syllabus, they are always changed.
Jeff is something else. He rambles a lot! But at the end of the semester he started giving out 100s for people who showed up and did good on the tests and quizzes. His guidelines are not clear at all and usually changes his mind a lot.
Overall super easy class, 3 exams in class and 4 online quizzes, barely ever takes attendance and puts lecture slides on D2L. Super chill guy, but tends to mumble half the lecture. Makes a lot of errors on the grading of quizzes and exams, and sometimes gets offended if you correct those errors.
He's a nice guy but I had a hard time understanding what he was trying to say. It was easier to just teach myself the lab concepts. To do well on the lab exams you only need to review the lab keys until you understand the material.
He knows what he is talking about, but class can be lecture heavy. Not always the most organized. Funny guy.
Kueny was defiantly one of the worst professors I've ever had. Very unorganized, unprofessional, and makes plenty of offensive jokes. Uses vulgar language in an inappropriate manner. He also puts things on the tests that he hasn't even talked about. It came to the point where I hated going to class.
He's a nice guy, but he's incredibly disorganized. Lectures are long and boring. He puts things on the exams that he doesn't teach in lecture. The first exam we took, I studied and memorized all of the notes and I still got a C on the exam, the following exams weren't much different. What he expects is also unclear and he rambles a lot in class.
The lectures seem to go on for a long time, mainly due to the rambling and general disorganization. He's a nice guy, except for when he wants to criticize "the youth/millennials". Labs for me at least, were not useful for my understanding. I did better by looking at the lab keys and learning the material for myself on my own time.
As long as you go to all the labs you will be good. You do not have to go to lectures because all the slides are online. If you want an A study the slides really hard, if you want a B just look over them before the test. Not the best professor if you really want to learn the material but he curves a lot of exams as well.
Hilarious guy, but sometimes would drive me crazy with how scatterbrained he can be. He really does want his students to do well, almost every exam was curved. He's a nice guy and is willing to help as long as you ask for it and truly want to learn. Lectures were really boring, but labs were somewhat interesting. Easy B with little effort.
He was by far the worst professor I had all semester. I sat in the second row and could bearly understand him, so Im not sure how the people in the 8 rows behind me heard anything he said. He is very scatter brained and has no idea what is going on, ever. He is very unprofessional and often makes offensive comments
He gets pretty generous with grading. He will often offer extra points or curve exams. Some times questions on the test were on things we never discussed. You get 100% for quizzes just by taking them. However, he is very slow on grading and putting grades in and hardly ever responds to any emails.
Very passionate about content. Several questions on tests and quizzes were never discussed in class. Reading the book is helpful but goes into way more detail than needed. Ended up curving all the tests and quizzes so that most everyone got an A or B.
Super funny guy and knows what he's talking about. I had an hour and a half class and was able to make it through without getting bored. He understands that the students usually have a lot of other work and is really willing to negotiate and find what helps us learn best.
It's an easy A, but sitting through class is awful. Lectures contain 100+ slides per topic, and Jeff usually rambles off on some tangent that takes wayyy too long to bring back. Also makes rude comments sometimes that can be offensive. Not very many assignments, one group project. Nice guy, not a good professor.
Hes a little different but overall very kind and its almost impossible to get anything less than a B in his classes.
A real personality. I love Kueny because he's so goofy and real and he's such a hippie. I recommend taking his classes because he has such a personality that it makes the lectures so much more entertaining. He also is so passionate about everything, it's awesome!
Dr. Kueny is a super nice guy, but his lectures were really all over the place and super unorganized. Earth environments was a lot harder than I thought it would be. I feel as though he knew the information so well that it was hard for him to teach it to people who didn't. I didn't really use the book at all, but I feel like it would have helped.
Kueny is a good guy and genuinely wants what is best for his students. Loved his personality even though I was online. I only had him for lab (not for lecture) but ESC 101 with him, it is harder to get lower than a B. Mostly just weekly quizzes, one lab per week and a few exams which the book may help with. He can get off track though.
Super long lecture slides, talks very slow. The class in general is about a mile wide and an inch deep, I'd be more interested reading the wikipedia page on a specific aspect of the class than taking notes on 100 slides. Exams usually had 4 or 5 super specific questions, which was annoying. Very easy to get an A though.
Overall, Professor Kueny is very passionate about the subject which makes his lectures pretty interesting. I found that what he goes over in lectures is pretty much the exact same material on the exams. He is very understanding of his students and he really wants everyone in the class to succeed. Labs are a bit boring tho...
He is very entertaining in class and is a great guy. You can tell he truly cares and wants everyone to succeed.
Very very very long lectures, and sometimes gets off track, but overall a good professor and an easy A class. He will not let you fail. Weekly lecture and lab quizzes are easy, but definitely pay attention in lab.
Great professor. He is very passionate about his classes, and made it interesting for me. He is very laid back and asks students when we want things due, the best days for a test, etc.
Kueny is a funny guy but the class is super boring. I try hard to pay attention but always end up zoning out. If you go to class and study for maybe an hour or two before the exams, you can pass with a B or better
You can tell Jeff is very passionate about what he teaches but it can be really hard to follow along. He tends to ramble during lecture, but he also is very understanding and wants his students to pass. I ended up having to teach myself a lot of this course through the things posted on canvas, but its easy to pass and get by.
Professor Kueny is a very funny guy. He is clearly passionate about earth science and tells lots of personal stories and jokes about his studies of the earth. Everything you need to know for the tests is written clearly in the slideshows (there's just a lot of information to cover). He is very accessible for office hours as needed too.
Jeff is a funny guy. For a lower level class such as ESC- 101, it is appropriate to have a teaching style like his, although I wouldn't suggest him to teach higher level classes. Basically, you need to show up and he tries to make that mandatory time bearable.
Kueny is one of the most interesting professors I've had. He's hilarious and tends to go on tangents/ramble during his lectures, but everything you need to know is on the powerpoint slides he uses. Lectures are technically mandatory but I didn't show up to a few and still got full credit, so I don't know how well he pays attention to that, lol.
Took this as my science gen ed. While im not interested in earth science necessarily, I found this class bearable. Kueny is a funny and caring guy. Graded on lots of things and gives study guides for exams. 3 attempts for weekly reading and lab quizzes.
Professor Kueny is passionate about the content he teaches and cares about his students doing well. The class is actually very easy if you just put in minimal effort. The slides he lectures off are available to study from and contain 95% of the information that you will be tested on, with mild studying and you will pass with flying colors.
Kueny is definitely the kind of professor that you're like, wow, you've been teaching for too long, dude. He is kind of a nut and tends to ramble. His lecture is just a bunch of graphs. Kueny is funny but he is impatient and gets angry quickly if people don't participate. Easy A or B though, if you try just a little.
Boring lectures. Expects you to know more than you do. Impatient. Tries to be funny. I wouldn't recommend this course with him. For a Gen Ed, it shouldn't be this hard. If you study hard, you'll be fine.
Do not have side conversations and talk in his class because he will call you out. He was very nice and understanding and wants you to do well in his class. Very passionate about his job.
I had him for ESC 101 lab. He is a nice guy but is a little odd. He is fine to take for a lab though because he is not overly demanding.
Kueny is a such an interesting guy. He may seem grumpy at first but talk to him and he's such a caring professor. Listen in class, take notes on lectures, and answer questions he asks. The reading is mostly covered in class, but nice to review as needed. He asks exam questions in class so pay attention!
He's a weird guy. He tries to be funny, but its just awkward. He also takes everything personally, and gets pissed easily. For example, whenever someone gets up to go to the bathroom and leaves, he stops talking and makes a snarky comment. He is very passionate about his work and he's clear on what will be on the exam by providing a study guide.
tries to be funny but fails horrendously. is very opinionated and often goes on a tangent about something that has no relation to the lecture. i watched people get up and leave in the middle of lectures many times because he said something offensive or wildly out of context.
Dr. Kueny was a great professor when I took his class in the spring semester. He may seem awkward at first, but if you actually talk to him, he is really helpful and caring for his students. The exams were multiple choice, making them fairly easy and the pre-quizzes were very easy as well. His lectures provide useful information for exams!
Great professor. Lectures can seem long and boring but it's worth it to show up, but he does post all the slides on Canvas. Exams were all multiple choice, and there were weekly reading quizzes with the textbook which were fairly easy. He's very passionate about the subject and super nice to talk to. Highly recommend.
I thoroughly enjoyed his class. He was very empathetic as to doing shorter quizzes compared to exams, graded us fairly, and gave us lots of time to relax from the stresses of other classes. He clearly cares a lot about the environment and is respected for that. You can tell he is very passionate about his work.
Keuny is a decent professor but he rambles a lot and lectures can be very hard to pay attention to. He cares about his students and wants you to do well. He gave my class 2 short in-class written exams as well as 3 open-note canvas exams. He tells you what to study which is nice. There are not many graded assignments. Some concepts can be confusing
Lectures are boring and he mutters a lot. Kinda feel bad for him though cuz he obviously cares.
Dr. Kueny may be one of the worst professors I have ever had. He is very arrogant, and his class is way too hard for being an entry-level science course. Unless you are passionate about geography, I would suggest taking anyone else.
Kueny is a nice guy, I went to office hours and he was helpful but just very awkward. Very lecture-heavy and got to be very long. Participation is important to understand the course but it was A LOT of material for a gen ed class. You gave 4 exams, weekly readings, and reading and lab quizzes. Makes me think of a Michael Scott of science.
Kueny is a nice guy, but he obviously hates his job and probably his life. He's very open about his viewpoints but not about what material he is going to put on exams. He rambles so much that I can't force myself to listen to his lectures. He would be chill during lecture then make very specific quiz questions.
Rambles a lot making lectures hard to follow. His lectures don't align with exams-which ask overly specific questions. Kueny makes what should be a fun and easy gen-ed miserable and complicated. Seriously the worst professor I've ever had. Overshares about his sad personal life and opinions. If you have the option to take anyone else, do that.
Professor Kueny is a hilarious teacher who keeps the class interesting, though his lectures can be a bit disorganized. Staying engaged and using resources like Unstuck ai helped me stay on top of the material.
Kueny's lectures are not good. He rambles and mumbles, so I just end up doing other work. The exams are pretty straightforward though, and they're all multiple choice. He cares about what he does, but not very engaging.
4 exams, weekly lab quiz, and weekly reading quiz. Not as much work as you think, but studying is a must! Exams are 40 mc questions graded out of 80 points. Jeff is kinda odd and can often get off on other tangents or commonly distracted, but he does care about geography and the class.
Prof Jeff does a great job of incorporating current and past events into his lectures. This class allowed me to understand the natural environment a little more. You can also get "extra consideration" which would bump you up a letter grade instead of extra credit, which is better in my opinion. Attend every lecture though.
Kueny is a very nice and understanding guy. He may go off on little side tangents here and there, but overall you can tell that he is passionate about the material he is teaching and wants you to succeed. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you show up to class it will make the course a lot easier.
His lectures are a bit hard to follow sometimes but he is overall nice and a funny character. I only had him for the lecture part of my class, not the lab.
I would truthfully say that this was one of the worst professors I have ever had in college. He does know what he is talking about and does love it, but, his erratic lectures and poor communication style lead to information being lost. On top of that, if you do listen, much of the lecture tests will include information never taught or in the slides
Just bad. Do not take if you have option not to.
Keuny is a nice guy. He does ramble a tad, and his lectures can be long, but I don't think he was awful. You don't have to show up to class, but it definitely helps if you do.
He means well and is educated about topics, but is sometimes hard to follow in lectures. He mumbles and goes off on tangents. If you study for the 2 exams, they are pretty simple. Going to lectures and taking notes is the most helpful for the exams. He is flexible with due dates.
He is one of the funniest professors I've had, kind of in an unintentional tweaker way. He is super helpful in explaining and clarifying content. Basically tells you what's on the test if you get close to him. Chill guy.
Attendance is only mandatory for the lab section not for lecture. Not a terrible class but not great. I put in very minimal effort and didn't end with a terrible grade. From what I've heard it's easier than bio 101.
Loved him! He's a chill guy and so unintentionally funny during lectures. Pretty easy of a course if you put in the time and effort to study. Lectures can sometimes be hard to follow because he's a little all over the place but overall it's pretty straight forward. Very understanding and helpful when you need to talk to him about something.
Nice guy, but the lectures can be very hard to follow because he goes off topic often. He's funny and flexible with due dates. Always available outside of class and gives you "extra consideration" if you attend events related to the course and email him about them. Only 2 exams, but lots of slides to review. Shares some test questions in advance.
