He's a great guy. He just needs to make the class easier.

Best Chem teacher I ever had. Very Challenging.
Pretty tuff. One question on an exam was why dont sharks eat clowns? there was no real answer, but he insisted there was. My guess was because they taste funny. Other answers were because of the alpha rays, or beta rays. ::shrugs::
so many labs! great chem teacher, although, at times he seems confused, but the man is trying to convey concepts to you for a better understanding. I encountered the shark eating clown problem and how can you NOT pick the clowns tasting funny?! hard c
took this course when i was a soph in HS, so its not that hard. the lectures are long, but very helpful. the quizes are easy, they are online, and u can take them pretty much as many times as you want until u get all the right answers. tests are hard.
He's one tough cookie but he's very helpful and willing to even answer some of the most obvious questions that you have.
Lehman is #1 on my worst prof. list. He was very unhelpful with any questions we had, And always treated us like we should know the concepts and answers. That is why i was taking the class, becuase i DIDNT know. Save your self, do not take Lehman.
Mr Lehman funny guy and lookie like smart teacher until open mouth then you know he is very very wise.
Hard class, but lehman is helpful during office hours-and also, it got me ready for ochem and though i got a B in lehman- I got an A in ochem, good preperation, and also check out his web sit, he is always checking email and will answer questions on comp
took lots of notes. i studied them for the tests and used the book a bit to understand hard concepts. i did all the practice problems. he was very helpful during office hours when i didnt understand something. i passed with a high grade
makes a difficult subject easier to bear but still the class is more than moderately difficult.Labs go exactly with lecture. gives very good and structured lectures and can always help the student to understand the subject. (he's the bowtie guy)
he is a really nice teacher, but he doesn't explain the material well, a lot of the times he feels that you should ALREADY KNOW and he doesn't give extra credit.I went for help several times and I was still unclear take him if you are good in chemistry
Mr Lehman is nice and very willing to help. However, this class is labeled Forensic Chemistry and would have been more interesting had it been that, the $120 book for Forensics was useless. This is stricly Chemistry class, NO REVIEWS. Quizzes EVERY MOND
Awesome teacher, very helpful and nice. The class is challenging but he explains things clearly.
Lehman is very helpful. Will keep helping you until you understand this difficult subject. Very friendly and is passionate about Chemistry.
Super nice. Very helpful.
Lehman is such a nice guy. His class is interesting and he has a lot of knowledge. He is always willing to help you and really gets to know his students. On our last day of lecture he brought our class pizza too... how sweet is that. He is really great.
Lehman is a first-rate instructor. He will work with you as long as it takes to help you learn the material. There is a lot of work, but believe me, you are better off in his class.
Horrible teacher, his lectures have nothing to do with the questions on the test, worst teacher yet
Doesn't even speak of forensics at all and that is what the class is about.Horrid lectures, labs have nothing to do with Forensic either.Talked to AOJ Dept.hope they get rid of him, they aren't happy. Will help if you ask. Sometimes makes you more confused.
hes very easy and funny
he is a nice guy who cares about what he does. it is an intro equiv course, so he HAS to teach basic chem too. if youre ok with that then youll like him. he knows his stuff, and his grading scale is one of the easiest around. very fair, probably one of the best classes ive taken in college.
I don't like the way he teaches at all. In response to some other posts: he might be willing to take all this extra time to help you but that's because he can't teach it right the first time. i noticed people in 115v like him and 113 dont, don't take 113 it sucks, like his teaching ability.
very fun and nice guy. the best chem teacher i know by far. he explains things in terms that anyone can get. a must take for chem
Very nice guy.Good sense of humor. He know's his stuff but doesn't spend a lot of time on each topic so you'd better take awesome notes - or tape them.Even though I scraped by with a C and worked my tail off, I'd take him again if I had to.
Loved the guy! He's hilarious. It is a difficult subject, but he does a good job teaching it. Joke around with him... He's a good guy and likes a good laugh.
I had absolutely no interest in Chem during HS, but it's actually my fav subj this semester. Lehman is nice, funny, & answers all ?'s. I have not needed the book & there's no HW required. Just take notes in lecture and do your labs. With previous chem experience, this class is a breeze.
loved this teacher made the subject easy. he gives tons of examples so if you dont it the first time you will get it the second time. He is very helpful and does what he can to help you pass. lots of pratice worksheets and test are easy. but this is chem so you need to study
I can't stand Chem, but he is the best Chem teacher at Grossmont College. Too bad he doesn't teach at the higher levels too. Very helpful, but you have to study hard. Nice looking, for a Chemistry professor.
He is an awesome teacher! Make sure to attend every class and take good notes. Tests aren't to bad and if you have a problem with the lecture material the book easily explains it and is very helpful. Be prepared to do a lot of studying, it will certainly pay off. Highly reccomend this teacher!!
Freakin' AWESOME professor!! I loved the guy, always had a great laugh. Very helpful in lab even though you had to huant him done sometimes! Lecture are informative- take notes! His bow-ties are the greatest, but he doesn't know how many he has, I asked! I wanted to fail just to take him again! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Excellent teacher! Very helpful, organized, personable, and clear in his explanations as well as in his expectations of students. He even manages to make lectures entertaining!Students who show up for class, pay attention, and make an effort to learn the material will do well in his class.
Hard class!
OMG I was excited to take this class but at the same time scared cuz chem is hard, but he is the only teacher that I’ve ever had that actually takes time away from his to give to you, he cares, he is very clear, funny, smart, has interesting class discussions, I see him as a role model for everything, awesome human being, you wont be disappointed!!
If U suck at science don't even consider taking this course. Chem is extremely difficult, especially if you don't have a high interest in the class. He's helpful and understanding. Nothing against him, just the class!
He is absolutely the greatest teacher in the science dept. He may seem rough and tough on the exterior but once you get to talking to him he's awesome. This si my second semester taking his class and I can't believe how easy it is. I probably have duplicat
He is a great professor. He is very intelligent. However,if he can put himself on std's shoe, it will understand his student's level. His tests are too much concepts, even an american may have hard time to understand. It must be harder for international student.tests and quizzes r very difficult.
Jeff is definately the best teacher I have had that I can remember. Went out of his way to accomodate me since I speak Portuguese as my native language. Always willing to help and make time. I had his class quite some time ago and I still consider him a great friend. I would strongly recommend taking a class with him.
I think he is a great guy,but he is sometimes the meanest too.He likes to play with students'nerve. He is flexible, but it is not enough.Sometimes his quiz and test come from out of nowhere. To get a good grade in class,u need to know everything.Don't forget your 141.He will kill u if u forget it.:)).
Tough class, great teacher! He explains concepts so the average non-chem major can understand them. Study like crazy, practice with his old exams on-line and ASK questions--he goes out of his way to help.Highly recommend
Taken in Fall '04, an excellent teacher, actually teaches his students, doesn't just present material and move on. Never to busy for questions. One of a kind instructor in many ways. Definitely in the top two of all my college teachers.
I hate chem but decided to cram it in over the summer. Prof. Lehman was great!!! Funny, explained concepts well, always willing to help you out and didn't make you feel stupid when asking questions. Pay attention and take good notes. I actually enjoyed the class and wish he taught something other than chem so I could take him again!
do not take him unless you already know everything about chemistry because even in a beginnig chemistry class he expects you to know everything already! thats why you take the class and he doesnt understand that! horrible teacher looks at u like your dumb for asking a simple question! please dont take him unless you have too!
Very good professor. I took him over the summer. Chemistry is a hard subject, but he made it a lot easier to understand. He cares about his students and their potential. I REALLY wish he taught oraganic chem. I would take him again if I had the chance.
THIS CLASS IS NOT EASY!!Chem 141 is sooo much harder then 120. The LECTURE seems easy, the TESTS are NOTHING like the lectures, tests are OVERWHELMING. Labs are fun but the reports are TIME CONSUMING!! You HAVE to know your stocheimetry, and memorize ALL YOUR FORMULAS. Not an easy "A/B", you will work. NETWORK WITH CLASSMATES!!! DONT DROP!!!
Personally I would recomend Lehman out of all the CHEM 142 teachers. Lehman is overall a superb teacher and was my favorite teacher this semester. Quizzes on you weekly and the tests are moderately hard. Labs starts off hard and piled together but get's easier when you start the qualitative section labs. End-of-the-semester demo was a nice treat ;)
Professor Lehman is the best science teacher I had ever had at Grossmont College! He is easy-going, fun, and very helpful if you ask him for a help. Lots of materials on quizzes and tests were from what he'd covered in lectures & labs, so make sure you focus on those. He did a lot of enlightening talks, and I loved it as a science major:D
Mr. Lehman is a fantastic teacher!! He is by far one of my favorites. He's got a great sense of humor and is a very nice guy. He will slow down if needed for you, and will teach you many math shortcuts. Take him and you will very much enjoy him and his class!!! He is great!
Mr. Lehman is by no means racial!!! He will not be rude if you aren't white, that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
I just want to start off by saying DOLPHIN! haha, inside joke with him and I. Anyways, Listen to the girl underneath me, He is nothing but the BEST! we took this class together and had the time of our lives. Its not easy, however its only as hard as you make it. trust me, this is my 1st semester and i already rate him as the best teacher @ grossmont
He is very good
I had to drop this class after several incidents including being tested (timed and online) on material that was not even mentioned in lecture or in the book on several occasions and then he changed the due dates of 5 assignments without warning (that I had completed but not turned in) so they were all late forcing me to drop the class or get a D.
Lehman is amazing! His class is NOT easy, but he is super helpful, will stay late and help you when you are struggling. He is prompt with his e-mails, and genuinely cares to see his students pass. He has a 'unique' sense of humor, but is hilarious. Word of Advice: Read the book. You're not quizzed or questioned about the book, but use it.
This is a very difficult class if you have not had much exposure to chem in general. He is very helpful and will stay after class or during office hours to clarify material. The book is very useful. Quiz every week. Overall, he is cool and makes the class interesting and fun.
One of the BEST chemistry teacher's i've had at grossmont. Chemistry in general can be really hard to understand but Lehman is extremely helpful and will help you learn the material. His test are both easy and hard but do-able!
Hard class, attendance is mandatory. Lectures are long with lots of writing. Get a recorder. The Professor is amazing and very funny and really tries to help you. This is my worst subject and I got a C+. Do the online homework it will help you understand the material and is 10% of grade!
He is super tight. Really friendly and funny and helpful. Covers all information clearly in class and gives study guides for all exams.
Best Chem teacher I've ever had. 4 exams, 1 final, 20 quizzes (drops a few), many lab reports, graded online HW(time consuming). I didnt use book at all! Lectures are very helpful. Gives practice exams prior to actual exams, which are almost the same :D Pay attention in class, dont miss lectures, and you'll be fine! He curves. I got an A.
Lehman is one of the nicest people ever! Chemistry is hard no matter what ... Few things thou: he does NOT curve and he averages percentages not points. All in all, if ur taking him, keep in mind that he is the best of what Grossmont and Cuyamaca chemistry departments have to offer! I'm sure going to miss his class.
He is an AMAZING professor. I hated chemistry. It is hard no matter what, but he made it fun and interesting. I truly enjoyed his class. You could not get a better chemistry professor! Very nice and passionate person.
Mr. Lehman is by far the best chem teacher at grossmont/cuyamaca!!! He truly cares about his students and is good at explaining concepts to make it easier to understand. However, his exams were usually a bit of a surprise...they were difficult and worth a huge chunk of your grade. Make sure you read the book and I took him for chem 141 and 142.
Mr. Lehman is one of the best professors at Grossmont college. He knows his stuff and does his best to make sure you understand the material. His class is a bit challenging though... his exams are kind of hard but he's always there to help if you need him. Take him if you're willing to put your effort into the class and read the textbook.
He is an awesome professor, towards the end of the semester I realized how much I have learned and all that he actually helped for me to learn by providing a lot of chemistry simplified and by doing this enabling a much easier cognition of my learning. I realize it may not be helpful to everybody, as it varies from student to student.
Jeff is really laid back. I am a business major so I really am clueless in chemistry. But he knew how to teach it and I learned so much & retained the info. I was proud I passed because of his method. Labs are at night and they are very helpful on exams. Study and practice each day. Ask Questions. He curves on a weighted scale.
cool guy. reminds ya of a dude you went to high school with. tests he's not too tough on ya. you will notice that by the end of the term more than half the class has dropped, but mostly i think its because its chemistry, whatever you think is right in the normal world, its the opposite in chem. lots of homework. push and get thru it.
To be completely honest, professor Lehman is a very intelligent and likeable teacher. He is an extremely critical grader and he expects you to have read the textbook chapters before his lecture, which you should do or you'd probably be lost if the subject doesn't come easy for you. Test are difficult to say the least. Find a study group stat!
I got over 95% in homework, quizzes, and labs. I got an A - (the first in my life) because exams are IMPOSSIBLE. I never got more than an 80% on the tests because they were so hard. It didn't matter how much I studied there was always something I don't know. But, if you do well in everything else you can definitely pass.
Professor Lehman is a great teacher. Attend class. If you fall behind it's hard to catch up. He gives pop quizzes. They are short and used to make sure you understand the material. He has a good sense of humor and he cares about your success.
Professor Lehman is a HARD teacher. I took him for Forensic Chemistry (113), and it was the hardest class i have ever taken. At no time in the semester did he update our grades onto the last day of school, so keep track of your scores. Quizzes at every start of class. You can pass the class with a C+ and not pass the exams. START A GROUP A.S.A.P.!
Jeff loves chemistry and knows his stuff, obviously! he teaches the subject, but I only mention it because I feel that sometimes he forgets to talk about the basics. Chem 115 is a starter class for chemistry and you are not expected to know much about it, but I feel that with him, that is not true. I passed the class.
Really cool guy, great sense of humor. He explains concepts very clearly, and will answer homework questions if you ask. His classes are very interesting, and labs can be a lot of fun.
Mr. Lehman is a great professor! He made Chemistry a lot easier for me to understand. It is easy to communicate with him through email, and he is also very approachable in or after class. there will be weekly quizzes, and you have to sign up for sapling learning for the HW. He also brings cookies from time to time! Overall, great experience.
Jeff is an awesome individual, but he is not the best teacher. I had him for chemistry 142 (gen chem 2), and he was horrible. He grades everything like grammar to sentence structure on timed exams!!! The only way you will pass this class is if you have his old exams because the practice one he gives out is nothing like the exam he actually gives.
Don't know why this was labeled 'Forensic Chemistry', as it was primarily a general chemistry class. He was not good about announcing when homework was due. It was a fast-paced class, if you didn't understand something, there wasn't much time to catch up. He had office hours, though I never went to them. Passed by the skin of my teeth.
I enrolled his class this summer 2017, but after two days I've decided to drop it. He seems nice to say the least, but he is not an effective educator for me. He can be a chemist, but not an educator, as he does not know how to explain the materials in the level that the average students who do not have chemistry background can fully understand.
Great teacher but definitely read the book, take tutors, and ask as many questions as possible. The study guide isn't like the actual tests so know all the concepts instead of the equations.
Great instructor. I took his chem 115 during the summer, not too much work like I expected. He's very smart and his class is fun especially the lab. Gives a study guide before each test and the tests are very similar to his study guides. He also would make sure you got the material before the test. Would definitely recommend him.
Lehman is really knowledgable; his tangents are fascinating. The class start with a series of lab, made brutal by back-to-back full lab reports. Luckily, this drops off in the second half of the semester. Lehman likes to include lab material and conceptual questions in his tests and quizzes, so be sure to study broadly beyond the textbook.
Literally one of the best professors ever. The class itself was a little tough because I took it in the summer. But he did an amazing job explaining material. I really know nothing about chem, but he does an amazing job and really cares about students and wants them to pass. Very kind and loved helping students. I really respect this teacher.
Jeff is a great person - mediocre teacher. He teaches from powerpoints that contain barely any information. His explanations are oftentimes unclear. He teaches you how to do some problems, but leaves the concept-teaching up to the book. You'll have homework questions you were never taught how to do. The book and the internet are your best friends.
Lectures are based off of slides that he usually skips over. Practice exams are not reliable for the actual exam itself. He WILL put things you RARELY go over in class on the exams instead of the equations you practice the most. Very inconsistent when it comes to updating grades. save yourself some stress and take 115 with another professor :)
Doesnt update any grades, if he has a substitute for labs and you still have to take a quiz, dont bother turning it in because he'll just take it out of your grade so you wont get any point even after doing all the work. hes not very specific on what you need to study for. worst professor ive ever had.
He is a really nice guy, but his class is incredibly convoluted. The labs, lectures, homework, and tests have little in common with each other, and it will be mostly up to you to bridge those gaps and make sense of this subject on your own. By far the online homework is the worst part of this class (that you have to pay fifty bucks for anyway).
Nice guy and very knowledgeable, but unrealistic expectations when it comes to tests. He gave us a study guide which is appreciated, but too much information to study for. I wouldnt take him again and halfway through the semester our teacher resigned so he took the spot. So just became more complicated and confusing
Hes extremely kind, but as a professor I just didnt really like the way he conducted things. We had a small quiz every second class, which annoyed me because I always kept failing them. I also struggled a lot during the tests, but to be fair, Im just not good at physical science in general.
Professor Lehman was a nice man, but not the best at teaching. His class was not very structured, and during lectures, I was often lost. He does call people out during lectures. He gave a lot of partial credit on tests, which saved my grade. If you're very confident in chemistry, I would recommend him. He wasn't very helpful in labs.
Really nice professor, especially during a pandemic he was super useful and was always available through remind or email. He never leaves you hanging. Attendance really only matters on lab days because of quizzes.
Lehman is an amazing teacher, specially during a pandemic. Made it clear he was not going to make the class even more difficult and added lots of Extra credit, even made the tests much easier. Plus he always responds really fast and makes time for your students. He does assign a lot of hw though so be ready.
Very good Professor, explains everything in detail. Gives extra credit for flash cards in lab.
He gives good feedback but he is a heavy grader, everything is scored out of 100 points. You miss a lecture, quizzes in the lab, and exams will be very hard to pass. If you stay for office hours he is very helpful and a good teacher. He teaches clearly and effectively and is considerate but is a heavy grader and if you skip class you will fail.
Overall this professor is okay. lots of homework and quizzes also he is slow at grading stuff. its the last day of class and he hasn't graded most of my homework and lab work so I don't know what grade I have. also the way he grades are very difficult because he doesn't give any perfect score even tho they are all right.
Hes an excellent professor. If you do the homework, then youll have a 100% in that percentage of your grade which in this class is at least 15% of the final grade. Theres usually a quiz given every class. He ensures we practice quite a bit of what hes teaching so we understand what were doing in class. Prepare to learn a great deal.
Professor Lehman is an excellent professor. He communicates readily and gives good feedback. He is also very accommodating and caring. When some difficulties arose during the semester, he worked with me to make sure I could stay on top of my work and keep up with the class.
I took chem 115 in summer and it was difficult. This class is hard but professor Lehman is great. He always make sure that everyone understands the subject and if you dont, he would not hesitate to help you. He does give loads of homework but it totally helps with the quizzes and exams. If you study and do the work you will not struggle:)
Hes chill laid back, but is not a great teacher, he doesn't explain things as well and expects you to to know it from the start as if you've taken chemistry before. Only 2 study guides out of the 5 exams we had refused to give anymore. Annoying quizzes very lab affected grade. Skipped a lot still managed a B-.
I took him for the summer he is very helpful if you ask questions, lots of hw during the summer but he cares about his students
This professor is truly amazing and he cares about his students so much! Made chemistry fun and somewhat easy to pass. He is always available to help you anytime outside of class as he offers office hours. His tests/exams mainly come from the text book and he also has a funny personality. Super laid back professor and is always willing to help.
Mr. Lehman is a good teacher who is willing to help out students in need. He cares for each student. He does grade pretty late on in the semester and there are always going to be mini quizzes at the beginning of labs. He does explain things well and does not make you feel intimated or embarrassed to ask questions, he encourages them!
Lehman is an amazing person with a beautiful heart and it hurts me to say that I wouldn't have him as my teacher again. I unfortunately learn better reading off of slides and this man mostly verbally lectured.
AMAZING professor! Actually cares about his students and explains anything if needed. If taking the course, make sure to really study those base concepts, the beginning of the semester is VERY important and the concepts just build upon each other as time goes by. Quizzes every week in lab but they are short only 3 Q's. Easy course overall.
Beware of this teacher. Guidelines prevent me from informing you about him so this is all you get. Assume his score is lower that what it currently is, lots of students ratings fell off due to honestly writing about the professor which got removed. Read all comments, especially the good ones. It should paint a picture for you about this class.
Save your energy. He will suck the life out of you. He will make sure to publicly humiliate you. He refuses to help and tells you that "you already know this". He makes you feel small and dumb. I'm not sure why he has a good score but this is a trick. I think he has it out for his students and wants them to fail because he refuses to give studyguid
Lots of online homework 6+ homework assignments given per week.lectures are pretty heavy you constantly have to be taking notes in class.when asked questions about something in lecture he will make you feel dumb and say "you should already know this" when he clearly only talked about it in class couple of times.Take this class at your own RISK!!.
Hes a great dude . Maybe a bit hard headed and doesn't always help right away but if you keep pushing him and make the effort he will be more inclined to help!
I wrote an entire paragraph only for it to be too long to post. In short, this professor does not care about your education and will not take the time to teach you anything. If you are new to chem, do not take this class because you will spend all semester in tutoring and going to outside sources trying to teach yourself chemistry.
Professor Lehman is a great person and is very inspiring, however his class is quite difficult. He gives you enough information to pass but not enough to excel. You need to really try for an A, but a passing grade is easy to get.
Pro, Lehman is good person, but his teaching style is so complicated and unclear, jumps topic to topic. So if you decide taking this course with him, be ready to teach yourself a lot of the course material if you are willing to learn everything. Again he is a nice person and really friendly/ approachable. Best professor personality wise.
These low ratings do not define this teacher. He wants all of his students to pass. Chem is not easy at all but Mr Lehman sets up his students for success by advocating for every1 to go to office hours. It WILL make a difference! On exams, if you understand most of the question, you'll get most of the points. If I can pass, that says A LOT!
Professor Lehman is an amazing person. Thoughtful, and very helpful. He always makes sure that you do well on the subject if you ask him. Please be patient and nice with your reviews.
I never thought I would be able to pass a chemistry class, no less do well. I have taken chemistry with others and I never got anywhere until I had this professor, he is passionate about chemistry. if you are asking questions during the practice problems he will help smooth out the wrinkles. I'm actually going to miss having him as a teacher
This class is challenging, but Mr. Lehman is always willing to help, especially if you attend office hours. He doesn't take attendance in lecture, but DON'T skip. There are quizzes in each lab class, so be sure to read the notes from lecture and the lab manual. The exams are straightforward and won't try to trick you.
The professor can sometimes come across as harsh, but if you put in the work, the class isn't too difficult. The lectures are dense, so attending and taking notes is key. unstuck AI helped me prepare for the weekly quizzes alongside the textbook.
Go to his office hours if you need extra help he is very kind and caring for students who want to learn and actually pass the class. Pay attention in lectures he's teaching important material and pretty cool too. Just pay attention and try to learn and you should be good. Coming from a football player.
This was a tough class but this professor takes time to help you out. I attended office hours and it helped me get better scores on my exam. He just wants to see you succeed and put effort he is very understanding. Doesn't provide extra credit only on exam and I don't recommend buying the texbook never used it. Easy teacher to talk to super nice!
He's nice for the most part, but he does the absolute bare minimum. No demonstrations, no test reviews, no explanations, and occasional study guides. I knew this was a hard class, but he acted like every question asked was an inconvenience. Difficult tests, lab reports, and homework assignments with last minute due dates.
His lectures are great, always tie the topic back to something to help you learn the subject, always open to answers, and truly wants to see his students pass and do good. Office hours are amazing as well, when you need him, pay attention and READ THE TEXTBOOK. Overall, Great professor.
If you want to waste your time and stress out, then take his class. No rubric for assignments. The Canvas page was always empty. He wasn't even in the lab room when we were conducting experiments. A classmate found him on his phone instead. He is nice, but it doesn't make up for the fact that he doesn't teach and isn't in the lab.
