Brings humor to a relatively dull subject. Very funny and attacks the subject at more of a philosophical and social stand point instead of a dates and places way. He wants you to get the big pitcure and be able to draw your own conclusions.

Professor McEwen is very passionate about the subject matter he teaches. I have had him for World Civilations II and Jewish Civilizations and the Holocaust. He is very respectful of history, yet he uses it as a tool to help future generations.

Prof McEwen is one of the best history teachers that I have ever had!! The class is interesting, fun, and you learn a lot if you just pay attention. The tests are straight off the study guide and there is no reason why anyone should make less than an A.

The Study Guides are a must if you want to do well. Fill them out as he lectures and you shouldn't have any problems. Don't rely on the book! You must come to class as most of the information for the test comes from his lecture and not from the power point presentation or the book. Excellent teacher!

McEwen is the best! Good guy, great teacher. Good sense of humor. He has a passion for history and does a great job of making things interesting. He offers the perfect class for all college students, meaning that you actually learn the material and its an extremely easy A. I had him for HIST 1110 and 1120 and he is one my favorite teachers ever.

He is a wonderful teacher! He is very funny. If you study the study guide and show up for class to take notes you will make an A+! ( reading the book was a waste of time for me everything you need is in the outline and study guide)

Just study the study guide, no essay questions, all multiple choice, etc. His class may be different now considering I took him 4 years ago. Very funny and will admit if he does not know something when you ask him a question. Made an easy A both times. Didn't need the book.

This class is easy and unlike any other history class you may have taken in the past. Study the study guides and write the paper and you should make an A. He's also full of funny yet useless knowledge. McEwen is awesome; I wish there were more teachers like him.

AWESOME TEACHER! Apply yourself when it comes to studying the study guides for tests and you should have a good grade. He's funny and very intelligent. He is the first teacher I've had who made history class interesting enough to listen throughout the whole period.

After 3 years of college, he is still the best professor I have ever had. Never wanted to miss his lectures, and some of them are still stuck in my head. Not a difficult class, but a great one.

I thought that World Civ would be the worst class I ever "had" to take. I have never liked history and was not really interested in it. I took 2 semesters with McEwen and loved every minute of it. He is very funny, very intelligent, and very down to earth. BEST TEACHER EVER!!!

With over 100 credit hours from several different schools, I have yet to attend a better lecture than Prof. McEwen. I took World Civ 1 and 2 from him, as well as one of his overseas trips. Class is not organized with an emphasis on attendance, but mine were always packed even late in the semester!

He has a cane but doesn't use it, kinda like doctor house. Great teacher, always straight and to the point. Gives you everything you need to know in advance. No surprises or random crap.

He's a pretty good teacher and tells you everything in advance. I enjoy his lectures but they always get out early. He has opinions and isn't afraid to tell them to the entire class. He points out a lot of things that should be understood, like drawing comparisons from America to countries like imperial Spain. Pretty funny class.

Great teacher, PowerPoint lecture every class which is usually let out half an hour early, gives you the material that will be on test but must sign role every time. Tests are exactly what he gives you. Great views on life/religion. Knows what he's teaching and loves it

Professor McEwan is one of the best teachers. His lectures are very interesting. He does attend class on time. If you attend class, study his lecture power points, then you should get an A. You will need to do a book review. Take his class and put some effort to it and you should learn and do well.

Great teacher. Very laid back too. Not very interested in the course itself, but McEwen makes the lectures and discussion funny and interesting. His feedback and grading on assignments are quick and the course is SUPER EASY. Highly recommended! Hardly used the book.

I love this class the teacher is great.!!!! He makes it so easy just remember to print off the pages he ask and highlight the material but, he will go over it with you. He cares about his students and makes it very easy to get a great grade. I recommend taking him for history part one and two!!!!!!

His lectures will stick with you. He is a really good teacher. All you have to do is show up, do your work, and listen. His study guides are pretty helpful. However, they are called study guides for a reason. Use them. He makes world civilization interesting. I don't like history,but I do now. :)

He is a great man, very intelligent. He wants you to succeed and learn, and does everything in his power to help you succeed. His lectures are great, and if you pay attention and take notes on(print out lecture and study guides) there is no way you can fail unless you sleep or lazy. Smart man, knows his stuff!

This professor is the greatest! I wish he could teach every course at Chatt State. As long as you come to class and bring the print-outs you're almost guaranteed to pass. I liked Mr McEwen so much after 1110, I rearranged my schedule just to take 1120 with him.

DON'T BUY THE BOOK!!! Everything you need to know for the test is in bold on powerpoint. 4 tests and 1 paper. Tests are memorization, so make sure you have memorized everything and you'll be fine. Do the paper and you'll get a good grade. Also, if you talk to him about it he will bump up your grade if he sees that you are trying. Great professor.

The best teacher that I've ever had. He knows how to talk to students because he's one of the few professors who actually remember what it's like to be one. You don't need the book. Really funny and clear cut teacher. Tells you exactly what will be on all the tests. The one paper you have in his class, he grades fairly easily. Don't buy the "required textbook" you will never have to use it! Great overall teacher and fun and easy class!

Great professor! He gives outlines off power points along with study guides for each test. There will be one Critical Book Review you will have to do that is 5 pages long. It's not bad, just try to get a head start! Overall, he is awesome and if it was required for me to take HIST1020 I would take it with him for sure! Also no need for the textbook

My favorite class. GREAT TEACHER. I love his lectures. He is so interesting and knows his stuff. He's a brilliant man who makes history easy to understand. His expectations for test are very clear. Anyone can pass this class with ease as long as they come to class and take notes with the handouts. Book not necessary.

Personally, I am not a history fan , however McEwen's class was less painful as I thought it would be. All tests are based on the study guide, literally word by word, and all answers are bold and italic in his slides- ALL! So really, there is NO way one should fail this class. And if you help understanding smthg you can see him after class :)

Mr. McEwen is probably one of the best history Professors I've taken in college. I took him for WC II and I loved the class. His tests are very easy. All that you need to do is print off the Outlines and don't even worry about buying the book. You won't need it. He makes History very interesting and fun.

Mr. McEwen was by far the greatest professor I have ever had at Chatt State. He lays his grading criteria out very clearly on the first day of class! Four tests and one book review 500pts. His lectures are quite enjoyable, but his humor makes this class fun. I would take any class he instructed.

A student taking his class does not need to buy the book. The book is waste of money, his notes tell everything needed to know. His study guides tell exactly what will be on his tests. My grades on his four tests were 100, 98, 98,98, without a lot of studying. Also he is very interesting to listen to. One of best classes I've taken.

This guy IS THE BOMB. Best prof I've ever had. Not only is he extremely funny and entertaining, but his lectures can get really deep and meaningful. I started crying once. I did his three week class for World Civ 1, and he is fantastic. You dont need the textbook, his head is full of all sorts of awesome information. I made 100s on the tests. Awesome, hilarious teacher! His regular Civ classes are very easy. Just read everyone else's review. As far as his honors classes, get ready to READ and WRITE! Tests are essays and you have to write two book reviews. Honestly, it's possible so don't panic. But you will have to put some effort in the assignments. Also sets days for book discussions.

I'm not a huge fan of history, but McEwen made it super interesting and I never left a class without a laugh. You only have 4 tests and a paper, and he he gives GREAT study guides. As long as you come to class and write down what he tells you to, you're good.

Four tests and one essay, all worth 20 points out of 100, don't let this intimidate you! If you just show up and listen, you are basically guaranteed to pass with a C and if you take simple notes and look at his study guide, a very easy A. He is pretty entertaining to listen to though which makes it all easier. Also pretty easy grader on the essay.

I took the world Civilation Honors class in 2003 at Chattanooga State. I was really impressed by way he delivered the lecture. He made boring lesson of history so interesting. Highly recommended.

McEwen is underrated, His lectures are very interesting & he shares everything from an unbiased standpoint, which was cool. We had 4 exams & 1 book review. He provided a study guide for the exams with the exact questions. Not much reading either, except for the book review. If you need a history class, Id definitely recommend McEwen!!!

I had to take Early World History virtually because of COVID. Professor McEwen is great! He expands on the book well, and tells you all the interesting stuff thats left out. He is also quite humorous and makes lectures, even via Zoom, interesting. The quizzes and tests are easy to study for, and grades are straight forward. 10/10.

I took professor McEwens class virtually due to the pandemic, and I had a great experience! He is an awesome professor. If you are taking the class virtually, you will have 3 tests, chapter quizzes, and a book review. His lectures are amazing! He actually made Zoom interesting! Best professor I've had at Chattanooga State. He's not overbearing with his opinions like many professors are. He has a good sense of humor and teaches really engaging content. The work is challenging but definitely doable. The tests and quizzes are multiple choice which is nice. You can tell he genuinely enjoys teaching. 10/10
