Jeff is a really laid back guy and teacher. He is from LSU and he will talk about the team a lot, especially when they play UK. Labs are mandatory attendance, and go because they are easy points. I have no idea how I missed so much lecture and got an A, but his notes and due HW assignments are online so you don't have to go. Easy on the eyes.
One of the easiest classes I have ever taken. Little effort required to get an A. Has lecture notes on a website. Lab helps you understand if you don't in class. I think I had a crush on him.
I was worried about stats before I took it, but he teaches everything very clearly. Lecture can be at times very boring, but notes are online, as long as you go to lab for quiz points. Easy A.
Easy, nice, young, funny (in a cheasy way)
His class is SO easy. Attendence at lecture isn't mandatory. All the lecture notes are online, so as long as you go to lab you'll know what's going on. His tests directly reflect what is taught in lab and so does the homework. Very easy A
Jeff is AWESOME! He is extremely helpful. Going to class helps get an easy A, but notes are also posted online. He is also sexy in a dorky way. Overall GREAT prof.
Jeff makes a math class very easy and he explains everything (maybe a little too much). I'm not sure if attendence is mandatory but he does pass around a sign in sheet so I always go. The labs follow with the class and the homework is always short and easy. His test aren't extremely hard but memorize definitions!
SO EASY! he makes stupid jokes and talks very monotone BUT WHO CARES?! the class is so easy! tests are a joke and the homework is straight from the notes (which are both posted online).
The most unflexible teacher I have ever had, blames everything on the syllabus and really doesn't care if you have to go to a funeral or whatever it is that may be more important than stats class..he was very helpful when it came to not understanding things and was very good at teachingbut hard to work with, when missing class for legitimate reasons
Such and easy class... tests are easy, homework is easy, and quizzes are easy. Didn't lear much statistics... I would advise against taking him if you are a stats major and really need to learn the material because you probably won't.... but if you are like me and needed an easy A and had to take this class, this is the guy to take!
I don't think I learned any statistics at all but this was an easy grade. Tests can be tricky and consist of multiple choice and about 5 word problems. He sometimes curves but make sure you go to the lab and class (attendance is taken) it can really help your grade. While he is monotone he can be interesting and is slighty dorky. Don't buy the book
He is one of the best professors I've had. He is very easygoing and makes things very clear... he's not one of those professors that tries to make his class super hard to consume your life! Homework, labs and tests are all extremely reasonable, and he makes going to class enjoyable. I feel guilty if I have to miss...
From what I hear about the other stats teacher, you REALLY want to take Modenbach. His tests were extremely straight forward. As long as you go to the recitations and actually do the homework yourself, the tests are a breeze. He's a really nice guy, too!
very easy class, great professor, easy a, lectures arent mandatory all the powerpoints are online
Fairly easy class. I had an early class, and it was hard to pay attention since the instructor is a bit boring. The notes are conveniently online, and attendance isn't mandatory, so the only time you really need to attend class is when you're turning in one of the short, easy, and frequent homework assignments. I recommend this class.
Good teacher and an easy class. you do not use your book at all so dont even bother buying it. He is funny but a little monotone. overall an easy A and a good teacher.
Easy class. Attendance not mandatory but gives you bonus points if you go. I never went to lecture and learned all concepts in the lab and got As on all the tests. Take this teacher!
Really easy class. Modenbach is always making little corny jokes, but I think it's just fantastic. At least he has a sense of humor. He takes attendance but only for bonus points. Teaches in a way that even a simpleton can understand what he's saying. Lab's are a reinforcement of lecture so go if you don't understand anything. DO THE HW! Easy A.
Of the best teachers i have ever had.
so incredibly boring and if attendance wasn't required I'm confident I could never go to class and pass with flying colors.
He is a great teacher! I hated Stats b/c the professor who makes the exams is a dictator. Idk who he is but Modenbach will clear up any confusion. The exams are murder but the labs and lectures are so easy.
Great teacher! Explains everything thoroughly and always answers questions. Easy A.
He's a really nice guy who tries to bring a little humor to class. However, lecture is very dull. The material is somewhat difficult (but they changed the curriculum). I never fully understood the material which made the tests impossible.
Professor Modenbach was okay, but he was very boring in lecture and discussion section.
Dull, but thorough
easiest class i've ever taken. the lectures are pretty boring but you have to go to get points. he tries his best to make it more fun and he's pretty chill, one of the better stat's teachers
Class was VERY difficult. Got an "A" but only barely. Lectures seem so easy, but the exams are extremely tricky. Modenbach was nice and always ready to help, but this class will be hard no matter who teaches it.
Content of the class is pretty difficult, but if you go to the lectures and labs it's much easier to understand. Attendance isn't mandatory but helps you. The exams are tough, but the labs go over most everything on it.
Pretty good professor but his lecture style is a little dry, which makes the already difficult material slightly harder. Try to read the textbook and take diligent notes!!
One of the least helpful professors I've ever had. He will not give any extensions or help to students, no matter what there request is (family death, broken laptop, etc). His teaching style is mediocre and he does not make it easy for you to understand the material he is teaching. No help for students from him at all.
Hardest Class taken at the University, get ready to be confused, test are hard and never like the practice exams. He's a smart teacher but his teaching style is dry, the material itself is already hard, he just makes its harder to comprehend at times. Good Luck! Try to read the book, and don't fall behind!
Incredibly dull lecturer, which doesn't help the already dry subject matter. A nice enough guy who doesn't give you too much work. He tries a little to hard to relate to the students, but this comes off as slightly charming.
I feel like he is a nice guy, but the material isn't always on the same difficulty level as his exams. I would feel like I knew what was going on, and then take exams that I felt were much harder than anything we did in class. He does try to make the material enjoyable though
Really nice guy, but boring lectures. He takes attendance in lab and lecture. Easy class.. you just have to sit there. Theres hw due every week, but it's pretty easy. The exams are hard though. I got a 66, 91, and 70.
I recommend him if you're taking STA 296. He does his best to get through the material quickly and is pretty funny as well. He takes attendance every class. There is online homework due every week, but it isn't incredibly difficult. Exams are much harder than the rest of the course, which can be frustrating.
This was the absolute most boring class I have ever taken. Given, it wasn't very hard either. All you do is show up, listen to the guy talk, do a worksheet and leave.
Extremely boring. Should be teaching middle school. Class is pointless because all you do it show up, listen to his "jokes", do a worksheet, and leave.
Just don't take his class - he doesn't explain thoroughly and you basically have to teach yourself which is fine but annoying. He also only gives three tests, each weighted 20% of your grade and does not efficiently prepare you for the content that will be on the exam. I received a 100% on a pretest he gave and then a 60% on the actual exam.
You have no homework, but if you don't show up you won't pass because attendance is taken every day. Exams are really hard, but you REALLY have to study if you want to do well. The class is a routine of showing up, listening to a short lecture, doing a workbook assignment. Not terribly hard, but be ready to teach yourself at home.

Dreadfully dull. Considered self-mutilation to spice things up. Projects are his special way of wasting time. Very easy, however.
Pretty easy class. Attendance is mandatory and he takes attendance every class. He occasionally does optional classes after tests where we can look at answer keys. Most of the work is done outside of class, you have alot of videos to watch and online quizzes. Mostly bookwork in done in class in table groups.
He is super nice but incredibly boring, the class is easy as long as you show up and watch the videos outside of class. The first test scores lower than you think it will, believe me. Go to class and do the reading, you'll be fine.
He has a "reverse class" meaning you go to class to do the homework then teach yourself the material on your own time. However, there are video quizzes every week that are super easy points. He is very dry and class is boring, other than that it is not bad.
Only reason I did well in this class was because I took AP Statistics in high school. He doesn't teach you anything, just goes over problems and expects you to know how to do it all. The tests are all multiple choice and 25 questions. You HAVE to go to class for a daily grade, but it really is a waste of time.
Messed up grading of many students projects and he would not admit that it was wrong and did not change the grades. Several students who completed an assignment got zeros on a major assignment because of connection issues and he was not willing to allow them to resubmit. Overall he really is not willing to help you out with doing better and is rude
Modenbach knows his stuff, but the class should not be as hard as he makes it. He does not thoroughly explain what he is teaching, and is very boring to listen to. Exams are way harder than the class and the material should be. He's nice and its manageable by all means, but I would take someone else if you have the option. Attendance is mandatory
ITS BORING. Honestly the worse class I've ever taken, if you have the chance to not take it, don't take it. Class is mandatory and its probably cause if it wasnt no one would be there. The quizzes didn't even require math to be done, it was more if you can remember info from the videos. You listen to him talk, answer a problem, and then leave.
By far the worst professor I've had. The class itself is pretty easy to follow but the final grade is heavily weighted on 3 exams, all of which he refuses to offer a redo or any sort of extra credit. His absence policy is also ridiculous. Don't miss a class it'll probably drop you at least a letter grade and isn't excused unless you have a note.
He is very boring and the tests are very hard. Attendance is mandatory and you get a grade every single day.
He was extremely boring and wasn't very helpful. He was basically non-accessible from outside of class and doesn't really care about his student's success. You get a grade on attendance EVERYDAY, so I would go. Also, 60% of the overall grade is from tests, and they're much harder than the actual worksheets. Try to take a different professor.
I really enjoyed his class and teaching style.
Modenbach is a good teacher and makes many dad jokes, but can be a bit boring. If you listen to the lectures, do the homework, and ask for help when you need it, you can easily get an A. Attendance counts for a lot.
Anyone who gives zero credit for a one minute late assignment instead simply deducting a small amount of points is a terrible, compassionless professor and will always get a 1 star from me.
I've already taken AP Stats, so this class is just a repeat (even easier tbh). Extremely boring lectures that do not even relate to the exams. He is a super dry lecturer. Wouldn't attend class besides the fact that it is worth 20% of your grade. So even if you know what you're doing, you have to attend! Take different professor.
This was easily the most pointless class I took in the entirety of my college career. If has absolutely no "practical significance" to anything outside of this dull room. Professor was very dry, boring, and did not make any sort of effort to reach out and make any student feel individualized or like they have any chance of learning anything.
Lectures are very boring, he just reads the slides. You have to teach yourself everything in the class. You have an online HW assignment weekly that is pretty simple. There are no practice problems for the exams and he writes them himself. It is almost impossible to prepare for the exams.
STA 210 is the easiest class I have taken in college. Attendance is mandatory but you could pass the class by never showing up. Professor Modenbach is very nice and helpful.
Boring class. Professor is dry and does not even try to make class fun. You have to show up to class because it is worth 10 points everyday. Takes forever to go over one slide and just drags it out.
I don't like the way he runs his class, you watch videos to learn instead of him lecturing and they don't teach you much. Only work on grade books in class, but you get 10 points a day for showing up. Not the most helpful teacher. Hard class if you have never taken stats before, only grades are from exams and projects basically
Will say the same thing over and over again. Exams are worded horribly, it's super confusing. The class should be an easy A but there are random things that easily lower your grade.
The typical lecture class/"why am I here?". They spice it up with having you sit in groups of five and you work on your workbook with your group in class, and watch videos/learn by yourself. Don't miss any projects or class days because they're 75% of your grade, and you think you do well on your exams then get a D. Russian Roulette of a class.
Great professor, explains everything well and clearly. You work with your table through the workbook which makes it easier. Attendance is mandatory but the class before a test is optional, but I recommend going. You have to purchase the workbook for this class. Overall not challenging but you have to study to get an A.
He is an awful professor!! He doesn't teach anything!! He just repeats himself over and over again. I learned nothing from this class and it was a complete waste of time. He's strict on attendance, if you don't go your grade will drop rapidly. His exams are horrible and don't make any sense. I would not recommend taking his class!
I do not recommend taking STA210 with Modenbach. He doesn't really teach; he just reads from powerpoint slides. He is also very strict on attendance.
Modenbach is among one of the most boring professors I have taken at the University of Kentucky. He posts his slides, but trying to read them is not very helpful. Don't take him.
Most boring Professor I have ever had- reads the slides but the slides are from the book. when he talks it is very monotone and hard to pay attention. If you ask for a study guide or extra problems, he says he does not give that although it is a math class and how else are you supposed to study. Doesn't clearly tell us what is going to be on test.
He is literally so boring. Has no personality. Just walks around and talks the entire time. Reads exactly from the slides and is extremely monotoned. If you have the option to pick another professor, DO IT!
Professor Modenbach is probably one of the most boring professors I have ever accounted for in my entire life. He will NOT help you learn how to study for tests and not offer any help with work. We pay $160 for a work-book that we learn nothing from and then he continues to only read from the book. Do NOT take this man's section of 210, please.
If youre trying to cushion your GPA with an entry level STA class dont take him. Three exams worth 28 pts each make 60% of grade. Questions are ambiguous and if youre not listening EXACTLY to how he words things in lectures, questions, and answers youll get toasted. If you do bad on 1 exam you cant get an A. Wont round. Good luck on projects.
Exams are worded horribly at times and he will not clarify what he is asking for. This caused me to get a B on all of my exams, but I still managed to clutch the A. The project he had us do did not have clear instructions. Lectures are very boring, but you lose 10 points if you don't go, 5 points if you are late. Don't take his class, and you pass.
Honestly, do not enjoy his class at all. ATTENDANCE is so important. You get 10 points everyday for it and 5 points if your late. His lectures are very boring and make me want to fall asleep. He hand writes all his own exams so its hard to judge what will be on the exams. I would avoid taking his class.
He's an okay professor but there is a lot of homework each week and attendance is worth 10% of your grade. In order to do good in his class you need to study a lot because he does make up his own exams and doesnt clarify what will be on it.
He's probably the best professor to take for 210. If you show up to class and do the work you'll get an A. Attendance is a decent chunk of the grade though and the tests are worded a bit weird so you have to read carefully. The projects are easy as long as you just follow the rubric.
Like other reviewers stated he says lots of dad jokes and his lectures are pretty dry. Classes were half lecture half book work- I didn't mind the book work as it was pretty easy. Perfect attendance is a must to get an A!
He's the worst Professor and does not teach you anything
Not the best professor. The test are not well written which makes them more difficult than needed. His lecture is boring and its extremely difficult to pay attention. In class you do your homework and "teach" yourself outside of class. If attendance wasn't mandatory I would never show up to class since attendance is a good part of your grade.
Not a great professor at all. Very harsh and mean to students and really isnt a great professor at all. If you need to skip this one
This professor is terrible!!! Makes the test confusing and hw as well.
HOW IS THIS DUDE STILL A PROFESSOR!!!!!!
He is rude and doesn't care about his students. Would never take again. Save yourself.
No extra credit. Not flexible
There is a lot of homework each week. His exams are very hard and the study guides he gives out, have nothing to do with the exams. Just about all the assignments come from the workbook. His lectures are very dry and they seem to get boring very quick. His teaching assistant grades all the projects and grades them pretty hard.
Modenbach is not that bad. Yes, he makes lots of dad jokes and is kind of dry, but he gets the information across and grades easy. The tests were on lockdown browser but weren't terribly hard. Projects and homework were easy. Overall, a decent guy and I would take him again.
The lectures are dry and relatively uninteresting but cover material well. There are homework assignments due every class but you receive multiple attempts to do them so there is no reason to ever not get 100% and there are plenty of points to float your grade. Exams cover the material but are fairly easy and concept-focused.
Attendence is "non-mandatory" but he does multiple pop quizzes a week. It doesn't matter if you can fully understand the very easy course, it's nearly impossible to get an A without going to class because of the terrible way he runs his course.
Attendance is so important, he takes random pop quizzes but it helps your grade so much! Lectures are ridiculously boring and he honestly never taught us anything that seemed relevant to stats. The exams are so hard, and he never clarifies what are on them. The only way to pass this class is to go, and do the homework. Don't take the class with him
I did not enjoy this class but all of the exams were open note and take home. But that meant that the exams were harder since they were not in person. Hes nice but very monotone. I would check out of the class and used the time for hw for other classes. Hes nice but his teaching is eh
He was very nice, not good teacher-read off slides. 1 type of hw was for accuracy the other was completion. Does random pop quizzes so sucks missing class sometimes. Exams were online no proctor, 1 very easy project, TA walks around and gets on you if you're doing anything else other than being on the lecture notes, which aren't great but not awful
His lectures can be pretty monotone and he doesn't give many written examples in class. He also doesn't do attendance but he will pick a random day to do a pop quiz that is worth 10 points. The lectures are pretty long and can be hard to sit through. The exams are online though so they can be taken from home so that's good at least.
Easy class but not a great professor. Online exams (not proctored exam), and all online assignment gives you 3 attempts. Easy A, but just attend the lectures since he gives out pop-quizzes on some days.
The workload was very manageable, but exams will be harder than the homework. Lectures were easy to understand but I personally found them very boring. Liked the dad jokes he would tell at the end of class.
Best online STA 296 professor! Had about 3-4 assignments a week (as a part-of-term course) and thought material was presented well. Both exams were online and easy. There was a paper as well, but it was also easier than expected.
