very detailed review; reasonable assignments
Work -but good
Awesome teacher. Contains a wealth of knowledge and interesting to listen to.
His class was very intersting. He uses unique ways to teach the material. He tried to make even the boring subjects we covered interesting in their own way. I recoment him for a Professor.
He's very easy! Every day he has quizzes (15 question maximum) based on the reading material, and the 26 quizzes are averaged together for one test grade. There are a total of either 3 or 4 tests including the final exam. He shows movies (Excalibur, Richard III, etc.)!
His class is easy. I had a crush on him and would come to class and fantasize about him. I love his bald head. *sigh*
He is a great teacher! you have quizzes you take everyclass but he gives them to u a head of time so u know all the answers, and he gives you over 80% of your exam for the review!
Very interesting class, very interesting prof. He's good. And I don't think he minds if you don't take Excalibur too seriously.
Easy and interesting.
LOVED HIS CLASS. I RECOMMEND TAKING IT. He is a great professor.
I really enjoyed his class, it was a lot of fun, and very easy. We watched and analyzed a lot of movies. I'd take him again.
Excellent teacher. He is willing to help those who want to be helped. His demeanor and sense of humor are a plus. He's even taken the time to look over papers I've had to turn in for other classes. He expects nothing but the best from his students. I'd highly recommend him.
Really good teacher, kinda messes with his students heads to make sure they listen. My class had a lot of idiots so I enjoyed him making fun of them all. Real helpful on papers. Also, he took the time to figure out that the final would not raise or lower any of our grades a letter grade so we didn't have to waste our time and take it. Great guy.
Great guy, fun class. Very easy, makes jokes to keep people awake. Easy A, because if you mess up on assignments you can re-do, which he tells you how to fix it.
Cool guy, nice, helpful, attractive wife
Amazing teacher I hate english, but enjoyed his class so much!
excellent teacher... gives good reviews... study it and you will do well.
One of the easiest and most fun English classes you will ever take. Also, his wife is hot.
Dr. Nelms is "very w/ the times". He keeps things very current in his classroom and uses them as teaching tools (videos, internet, etc). Allows rewrites of papers if turned in on time, making it very easy to get an A on every paper. Daily quizzes of material assigned to read/study (attendance req) but quizzes are given to you b4 class. Excellent
Attendance is mandatory since quizzes are given everyday (he will give you the quiz in advance). The tests are long but relatively easy as long as you do the review and go to class. An easy A if you put a little effort in it but do not expect an A with no studying or reading. He made class interesting and fun. Would definitely take him again!
I'm glad I had Jeff as a Professor.
the funniest teacher ever. so witty. and pretty easy class. had him for two classes back to back and he was awesome
The guy would talk about the previous Famnily Giuy episode with you.. come on LOL =) Jeff is the bomb and very easy... just read the chapters for the quizzes.
Jeff was an awesome teacher. I had him for 2 semesters because I thought he was so great. He recommends a book to answer a fill in the blank quiz he will give you in class when you arrive, but I was always able to find the stories online so never purchased a book. His tests are easy as long as you listen in class!
He isn't too bad. You have a quiz in class everyday so you do have to read. Can get most of the reading material online. Tests where difficult because they covered a lot of material, they are long too, usually 2 scantrons, final was 3.
Best prof. I have ever had! He gives you reading assignments and then uses different media (ie art, movies etc) in class to reinforce the material. There is a quiz everyday, but he uses the quiz questions for the test. He gives you all the material that is going to be on the test (ie quiz questions) and even tells you the short answer topic ahead o
Tests were long, but reviews were straight from the tests. Dont miss class daily grades and quizzes taken. Dont goof off or use cell phones its his one rule. Has conference days to help edit assignments before they're due. Offers rewrites on papers to earn a better grade as long as they're turned in on time.
real cool guy. down to earth and good sense of humors which make lectures not just do-able but enjoyable. its not a blow off class u gotta do the work and the reading but he doesnt make it hard on you if u do the work. great guy . great class
BRILLIANT! MARVELOUS! OUTSTANDING! MAGNIFICENT! He is soooo funny! He is so interesting and makes class a joy to go to! I LOVE how he teaches & wish he could teach every single class! Quizzes everyday that is so easy, tests pretty simple, just pay attention. Nelms rocks!
GREAT TEACHER PLAIN AND SIMPLE. Cares about the material and provides a great opportunity for learning.
Pretty easy
his class wasn't boring at all! pretty interesting and tests are beyond easy! TAKE HIM! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Awesome teacher! Pretty funny guy. I didn't even need the book for his class, I just looked up all the stories online. You just take notes during class & have a quiz every day that he gives you ahead of time. I easily made an A in his class
He's awesome! Best English teacher yet! Best part is, he puts all your reading online so there's no need for a textbook. His quizzes are super easy. As long as you read it you'll be fine. Great class and super nice teacher. Definitely take his class :o)
Made everything seem so interesting and fun. Used textbook ALOT, had a quiz everyday but he posts the quiz questions online for the whole section all you have to do is read and fill in the blank. Recommend getting to class on time or you'll miss the quiz. Tests are extremely long but he gives you a 80% review with most of the questions listed.
If you can come to class and follow directions take this teacher. I took him for 1302 and got an A. He even gives u a week to rewrite your papers for a better grade. You have to be a moron not to pass.
Mr. Nelms is alright. The only bad thing about him has been that he doesn't really listen to your question before he answers it. Overall, he was a fair teacher. He has a quiz every day and a roll sheet he passes around. We were able to go online and find all the books we discussed. Overall, pretty easy class.
He is a good teacher but you must be in class everyday and on time. He gives a quiz every day but he posts the questions, if you go to the class and pay attention you will make an A.
Man professer Nelms amer lit is so cool. Please go to class gives reviews for test gives review out day before test so be present. I would get a recorder I had it and it help me get an A lots of nots to take if you dont. You take a quiz everyday at the beginning of class then he goes over what you read in his lectures. Take notes you will past easy
Very easy teacher. LOVED his class. Its always and interesting class. Test and quizzes are WORD FOR WORD from the notes and reviews. Easy A. Couldnt ask for a better class.
Great teacher. Easy. Fun. Nice. BEST class i had. all the answers to the quizzes and test are straight from the notes and book you read word for word. easy A if you just go to the class.
Great class. Easy and fun to go to.
Nelms is a good professor. He gives out GREAT reviews for the tests - if you study them, you'll get a good grade. Simple quizzes are done each day before class, but you have the questions in a study guide beforehand. I wish that he showed a little more interest in the students. Only con: large amount of mature content in class due to class material
Not great, but not bad. Gives out test reviews with 80% of the test questions on them. Small daily quizzes before class. Doesn't respond to emails. Note taking is crucial. Shows films of the books read. Very mature and some violent content.
Great teacher! Must attend class everyday for the daily grades given. Take notes and you MUST do the readings he assigns, which is one before each class period.
If you attend class you can make an A. I thought the class was easy and fun. He is very passionate about what he teaches.
Good teacher. Do use the book for quizzes. Attend class and you will be fine. Lets you chose between a few topics on what you want to write about, then you will only meet about 30 minutes a day so he can help you along with the paper. I would recommend.
I took him for American literature 10 1865 and I have taken him before for 1st part of World Lit. He is GREAT. I MEAN IT TAKE HIM. He gives the answer to the questions. I took all his classes for my extra credit classes...
Quizzes at the beginning of class are really easy if you've read the story/poem. If you turn in essays early, he looks over them and gives you good notes so you can redo them. His reviews for test are literally the test and if you take notes his class is a piece of cake. I got an A+ in English Comp 1 and BritLit. Just take his class. It's too easy.
Quizzes every class but very easy. You get to redo your essays. Nice guy too. Take him.
He is very good and smart professor. and helpful.
His lectures are for the most part entertaining and informative; he's a smart guy. Occasional Ex Cr. Daily quizzes on hw reading. If he hands stuff out and you're not there.. tough luck. Questions on review = Questions on the tests. BUT the tests are looong. Overall, I wish I had more english classes to take so I could have him again: great prof!
Attendance is a must. Quiz every class over readings. Must show up on time or receive a zero on quiz. Drops lowest quiz grades.Quiz questions are test questions. Lots of reading. Long test. One group essay project. Super nice guy. Overall easy class.
I would suggest taking him- Gets straight to the point. Very long tests though (150-200 questions), but he gives you 75% of the test as the review. Shows some rather odd stuff during class. Very random. Interesting dude...
I loved Prof Nelms!! I took him for 1301 and 1302. Got an A in both. He teaches using current media like TV shows and really interesting topics. Never a dull lecture. He is so helpful, and a caring person. There's no way you can get less than an A. He offers paper re-writes on every paper, I would take him for any class. absolutely awesome.
very laid back class, super easy tests are very long but easy. He gives you about 80% of the test as review. I would highly recommend taking him.
This was by far the worst Eng teacher/prof that I have ever had in my life. He has this mentality that school should be your #1 priority, so if you're like me and have real life stuff to go along with school avoid him at all costs. I was taking this course as a refresher course, I'll say this I didn't learn anything in his class.
One of the worst english teachers i have ever had. Does not tell you what he wants in papers so you never know what to write.
He will help you step by step in developing your paper. Daily grades are pretty easy to earn. He will give you an opportunity to redo your paper whether you fail your paper or make an A!!!
You will struggle to pass if you do not attend every time & stay the ENTIRE time. All communication in class not online. class schedule is by class# not date (makes it hard to follow. papers online are undated but not announced online. points knocked off for stupid stuff not content taught in class. I quit to focus on more important classes.
Great Professor, I am going for Electrical Engineering and could care less for Comp I. He made it easy for all people doing any major. Very clear and easy to understand. Do NOT use your phone for ANYTHING in class, it is more for respect than anything, he will call you out and get upset. I don't blame him on that though. I would take again!!
He has his own version of how to "interpret" the poetry. You have to learn his way. Not much for others opinions.
Great Professor! His lectures are easy and interesting to listen to, and he's very funny. He goes over every test before you have to take it so you aren't surprised, and he gives you a week to turn in papers. He does give a lot of quizzes, but he puts the questions online so there's no surprises.
Gives quizzes, which are on his websites and they are really easy just to help you in this class. Test are similar to the review and you have to show up to class to pass.
I liked Nelms, though he's kind of a weird dude. The assignments are really interesting, (no personal narratives here). Quizzes almost everyday, keep up to date with the daily schedule. He can be kind of rude when you're late or if you don't check the schedule. Nelms is totally worth it for his re-write policy and late work policy.
Nelms is AWESOME! this class is super interesting. Watching mini videos, and 2 movies towards the end. You will have to read something almost every class for a quiz the next class so prepare for that, but don't worry each reading is quite interesting. Tests are long, range about 140-180 questions, but if you read the stories you will ace his class
Good professor, gives a short quiz which you can always get online before hand. Gives reviews that are about 80% equal to the test. Watch his extra videos because he will have extra credit questions on his test! Must show up to class or you will not pass because he doesn't respond to emails.
Long tests, but it is easy as long as you read the book. It takes me half hour to answer questions on the quiz.
very disappointed in this instructor. he does not post grades, so therefor you are stranded not knowing what you have in his class. he also grades your essays like you're in grad school studying english. when you try to talk to him he tries to hurry up and say something short so he can be threw talking to you. safe your time and take someone else.
Pretty easy. Rarely even stay the whole class. Normally he just tells you what needs to be done and you're free to go work on it. There were a few group assignments. He's also pretty funny so its easy to pay attention to him.
He is horrible I had to wait the whole semester to get any of my essays graded and anytime I asked hime for help he really just avoided my question and seemed to rush me. If you actually want to learn anything or not be stressed out the whole semester then do not take his class.
Jeff Nelms is a professor who listens and cares. He may be strict about his rules but it's because he wants to see his students succeed. The class is an easy A if you show up, listen to the lectures, read the material and discuss in class. If you show that you're putting in the effort, the better time you'll have in his class.
Awesome professor. Thinking about extra credit? GO TO CLASS. he gives grades that effect you negatively, so i guess its required extra credit. Paper aren't hard. everything is a group project in some way but works really well. definitely not a hard professor. Be to class on time, he gives short lectures.
Best English teacher I've ever had! Allows rewrites for the first couple of essays. Is a tough grader on the essays because he teaches you EVERYTHING you need to know on writing essays. Show up to class because he is a great teacher.
He gave the detail plan for every class and the daily quiz for the next lesson in it. Just need to show up everyday and prepare the questions for quiz which he gave. So, I don't think it will be difficult to pass this class if you are not good at writing essays.
Easy grader. Attendance is a grade but he won't drop you. Easy going and laid back.
Show up. Turn in your papers on time and put decent effort into them. Stay off your phone because he will call you out in front of everyone. Super awesome guy. Definitely recommend him. Taking him for English 1302 as well for fall 2017 semester.
He is horrible! If you try and talk to him he won't give you the time of day and doesn't understand if you're going through things either. He gives a lot of reading homework and pop quiz's.
Really liked Professor Nelms. I'll be back for Comp. 2. He won't automatically drop you after 8 absences. As long as you do your work and show up for your quizzes you'll be okay. Don't buy the textbook, you will not need it.
great teacher! gives you all the answers/reviews needed to succeed(always goes over answers for quizzes AND tests) a lot of essays but there is always example essays & instructions posted on blackboard. laid back and willing to help you if you put in effort & show up
Reasonable, fair teacher, also funny. Some people say dismissive. I know he's not. You need to ask questions if you don't understand something. He'll always make time to help you. He won't take the initiative to help you, that's your responsibility. He grades fair and makes it as easy as possible to give examples of what he expects in writing.
Dr. Nelms is a phenomenal professor and I highly recommend his 1301 and his 1302 English classes. Super easy going, laid back, quizzes are a breeze, just have to read what he has assigned, tests are basically the quizzes bundled together at the end of the unit, and just show up and participate. EASY A!!!
Professor Nelms is an awesome teacher and does everything he can to help you succeed. He takes daily roll via quiz or roll sheet so attendance and timeliness is important. He also allows re-writes for several of his papers AFTER correcting so doing poorly is hardly an option. You won't need a textbook either. I will be back for ENG 1302!
Funny teacher and a tough essay grader. Tests and quizzes are easy but essays can cause you to lose your A. I had an 85 in his class but didn't turn in the last essay, so I went from an 85 to a 69, he gave me a 70 since I passed the final. Turn in your HW, 2 missing essays can cause you to fail his class but can be a bit generous during final week.
If you're taking comp 1 or 2, he's a super lenient professor and will let a lot of stuff slide. He seems to be a lot more serious for his world literature classes so be prepared. Comp 1 & 2 will not require a book but world literature will. Also, don't do anything stupid in class because he might just write a new rule names after you. Great prof!
Dr. Nelms is great!!! I took him for 1301 and 1302. He gives good feedback on essays and lets you rewrite them and turn in it for a better grade! There is a quiz every class. There is a review for every test which he goes over and is 80% of the actual test! Show up and you'll get an A!!!
Tough grader, wont explain much about anything. Cant contact him unless its in person, does not use email. Many essay's and long test.
Not the best teacher, he grades hard and doesn't really care about his students. He expect you to know the answer to everything, does not explain assignment throughly. Review for a test is not really reviewing, he goes over half of whats on the test so quickly its not even considered reviewing.
Professor Nelms is a great English professor. He's a laid back teacher, but every day there will be a quiz at the beginning of class. Those quizzes will be found on mytcc. Essays make up the majority of the final grade. He'll give you good tips for writing an essay. Don't be absent from this class. Lastly, read the syllabus on your first day.
I took Prof. Nelms for ENGL 1301 and he was amazing! Over the semester we wrote five essays, and he was very clear about what he expected. There are daily quizzes first thing and you aren't allowed to make them up later if you're late. The quizzes are super easy though, you just have to be punctual. He's super easy to talk to if you have questions
I absolutely loved Prof. Nelms. He's extremely punctual. He does give quizzes, but he practically gives you the answers. Also, the first few weeks you'll be in class the whole time. After that, don't expect to stay too long. It's almost like a meeting of what to do next, then dismissal.
Easy class if you show up and do the assignments.
Professor Nelms was my favorite teacher my first semester of college. To pass the class you simply must show up and do the work. He gives clear outlines on how to write papers. In my personal experience if you participate in class discussion and turn in your work on time he will probably be more lenient when you have a late paper.
Nelms was such an awesome teacher that I would take him as many times as I could. He helped so much with everything. He would give quiz reviews for every quiz, we would basically go over the test as a review, and the papers we write are so self explanatory its crazy. I never struggled in his class and he let us out of class usually early.
I had Nelms for comp 1 and 2. He's really chill. Show up and do the work and you'll get an A or B. Short pop quiz before every class that he gives the questions for beforehand. If you're stuck on anything he's very helpful. He allows you to rewrite the first few papers. He goes over the test questions and answers so always be there for the reviews.
During the semester, you only have to write five papers. The first three papers you can rewrite for a better grade. Just make sure that you show up for class on time to do the quizzes or be marked for attendance. He's super lenient and was hilarious before classes were moved online for this past semester.
No textbook. Quizzes before each class. Paper rewrites. If you have a question, he doesn't give you his email, so communication is limited. Don't do anything dumb in class, or he'll name a new rule after you (like sleeping). He assigned super inappropriate readings for the fiction unit, fair warning. Overall, nice guy, has funny quirks, take again.
I took him for Comp I & II. His class always seemed to go by fast, you do a lot of group work but i actually enjoyed it because you get to know a lot of people in your class. He doesn't drag out lectures, and tries to get straight to the point. He's a fair grader, and if you do the work, you'll easily pass. He's really nice, and cares if you pass.
Professor Nelms is probably the worst teacher I have ever had. This was an online class due to COVID. Nelms is NOT interested in being a teacher. He does the absolute minimum amount of work possible. His instructions are vague, and his email replies are curt.
Professor Nelms is very helpful and cares about his students. His very funny and is always there for you if you have questions about your essays. I definitely plan on taking him again!
Please take! His lectures are practically word for word whats gonna be on the test! Show up and take notes youll pass, test reviews are exactly whats gonna be on the test
Professor Nelms is an amazing professor, this is my second semester with him and he is, by far, the best english teacher I have ever have. He is friendly, funny and gives great feedback on essays. He is very clear about each unit and gives review sheets for every unit test so you know what to study for. I'd love to have him as a prof again!
I LOVE THIS PROFESSOR!! He is very understanding and will work with you. All you have to do is show up, understand, and ask questions. Although he does not reply to his emails he is always there before and after class for his students. He kept his lectures very long but they were interesting!
He wasn't a bad professor, but the amount of quizzes we take ( every class period ) is kinda unnecessary (answers online though) He is very passionate about this subject and the reviews are exactly like the tests :) He's not a bad professor he's very clear about his course.
Professor Nelms was definitely easy. He didn't really teach a whole lot but was very attentive when it came to doing the assignments. There were five essays that took up 70% of the grade, a bunch of quizzes in class that he also uses for attendance, and four tests. As long as you show up and do the work, it's an easy A.
Professor Nelms is a good professor if you are okay with reading about 45 pages a week and having a 10-15 question quiz every class. His class consists of long lectures, occasionally interesting. He is definitely a harsh grader. We had one essay where the rubric was wordy and confusing. TCC has better teachers...
His class was not hard and some assignments were fun, but SO MUCH of the assigned material was sexually explicit. The inappropriate content and comments in class were unnecessary and had no literary value. I genuinely think he cares about his students' success and could be a good professor, but I left most of his classes feeling very uncomfortable.
Prof. Nelms was overall average, the only criticism i have was the minimal effort to give feedback to students outside of class. Sometimes his essay grading was strict but overall his lectures are clear and understandable
Class is okay the quiz are so easy but not the easy he assigned 5 easy different date due but the topic really hard he is open to talk with him but he won't help you! I think if he change the easy topic it will be better to pass this class. Also really heavy on grading the easy too!
If you can't be in class every day, do not take his class. There was a style issue quiz taken every day, and since we were constantly working on an essay or studying for a test if you missed one day, you would have a zero on a quiz and have no clue what to do for the current essay. Overall if you're there and do the work, you will pass easily
Really great teacher, leaves lots of feedback on essays but you will probably never get a 90 or above. Assigned reading before every class and quiz over reading. Grade makeup: 4 major essays, daily quizzes, and 4 unit tests.
This professor cares about his students' success and wants them to have better writing skills. However, his essays are weighted very heavily; you must pass your essays in order to pass this class. Be ready to watch a lot of Shakespree's movies and have free time to write about them.
Mostly papers about movies, but Prof. Nelms cares a lot about you learning properly and will offer advice and has very precise feedback on papers. He's also pretty funny and tries to make the content of his teaching relatable or as relatable as Shakespeare can be, so it's easier to remember.
I took 1301 with a clear mind because I love writing, however he does give feedback in proof reading essays. Focus majority on your essays to get an A. The 4 essays are what matters the most in this class. He does offer help which is very nice.
He is a nice guy and a decent prof. His grading is very in depth and he counts off for very small things. Whenever he proof reads he does not always give enough info to affectively change your paper to get a higher grade. He has daily quizzes but they are not too hard. He relies greatly on working in groups which can be a beatdown. Slow grader.
YOU MUST go to class. You will have a quiz after every class and you can't take the quiz later. He will give you instructions for each essay - you might rewrite the lowest. I thought he was "fair" but you need to go to class and show the essays before you submit for observations you could fix before submitting it.
Prof. Nelms keeps his classes engaging with relatable examples. The workload is manageable if you stay on top of things. unstuck ai was a great study aid alongside the class materials.
It has 5 essays for the whole semester and he lets you rewrite your lowest one. Gives daily quizzes based on grammar issues discussed in class, max 15 questions. Nelms was great throughout most of the semester, then gave us a weird final group project and was not ok with any questions on the topic. Overall, great class until last 2 weeks!
I wish Nelms was my teacher for every class. He sets up what the year will look like very clearly at the beginning of the semester and provides everything you need on Canvas. Please take his class! He is amazing!
Very easy class if you like writing. Every essay I couldn't get higher than a 70. Always dismissed class early and sometimes canceled. Doesn't give clear instructions on what to fix in the essays. Quizzes were easy gives answers to study in canvas. Overall easy class just hard assignments if you hate writing.
They're 4 essay's failing one can garentee you at least a B in the class. But other than that, he is actually really generous when it comes to grading. He rounds up when grading. He allows rewrites for the lowest essay. I highly reccommend looking at the daily schedule from there you can get and idea of future quizzes, test, and due dates.
