I had no interest in taking business law and put it off until my last semester to avoid it, but professor Nielsen made it one of my favorite classes at the U. He is really funny and he really knows his stuff. There is a lot of material and the exams are harder than you expect, but he is always willing to meet with you to help you understand it all.
Jeff was one of the best professors I've had! He knows the material very well but is very humble and approachable. If you put forth the effort in studying the exams, meeting with him (which he is very easy going!) to go over questions, and participate in class discussions, you'll do just fine. You wont regret it!
Professor Nielsen was my favorite teacher at the U so far. He is really funny and makes class a lot of fun. Grade is based on participation and two exams, all multiple choice (not an easy multiple choice, though - he gives you four answer options and more than one fits, so you have to pick the BEST answer). Overall, great class.
Jeff is a baller. I loved his class and thought he was one of the funniest, coolest guys on campus. You have to read, participate and pay close attention to do well but you will absolutely love this class.
Jeff is one of the most educated people I know but is down to earth and relates to students. He loves to teach and keeps the class exciting. The final exam was harder than expected so beware but class is not too difficult, he teaches all the business law classes, acct majors have another option but I would recommend this one.
What more can I say? This class is not easy, and Jeff won't babysit you. He doesn't care if you go to class or sleep while you're there. If you put in the effort, you will get a good grade. Jeff is organized, helpful, clear, and entertaining. Easily the best experience I've had in any course
Jeff is an awesome teacher and I highly recommend him. There are 2 tests and participation and that's it so you have to pay attention! Don't buy the book required, you can find a cheaper version online. But take Jeff, he is engaging, funny and hip.
Final is way more difficult than the midterm. As long as you attend class, you'll be fine on the exams. He also cold calls to make sure you've done the readings.
Jeff is an awesome guy. He is one of the best teachers at the U. His class are very entertaining and you learned tons Exams are not easy, questions are too long and confusing. Be aware.
Jeff is by far the best professors I've ever had. He takes a terribly dull subject and makes it surprisingly fascinating. His tests are NOT as difficult as people say, but recording his lectures (and listening to them) is what made a huge difference for me. The way he teaches inspires you to WANT to learn. I've never had a class I enjoyed more.
He is one the best professors ever. Hard class but worth your time to go to. Highly recommended.
Jeff is one of the best professors I have had at the U. You must take this class from him if you have the opportunity
Jeff is probably one of the funniest professors at the U. He is always willing to answer questions at the end of class and knows how to make the class interesting. Don't miss out on this experience with him. He is so knowledgeable.
Jeff is the ideal teacher. He is relatively young and really understands how students learn. You will be talking about the interesting things you learn in his class to all your friends (yeah...business law!) He gave the most inspiring speech on the last day of class and half of the students were crying. TAKE HIS CLASS.
Jeff is an amazing teacher. You will want to attend every class, not only so you do well on the exams, but because the lectures are so fascinating. Keep up on reading, participate in lectures and the Facebook group he creates. Include yourself and really listen. Jeff makes this class worth your money even though you HAVE to take it. Favorite class!
This is my last year of college and hands down Jeff Nielsen is the best professor I have ever had. He cares so much about his job and his students. It feels so good to finally find a professor that really cares. I was challenged, inspired, and motivated. I feel lucky to have the opportunity to take a class from Jeff.
Jeff is awesome. Easily the best professor I had during college. I was not excited about business law, after my first class with Jeff, that was changed dramatically. I looked forward to going and it was such an awesome class. I was also lucky enough to have Jeff in my line at graduation, so I got to shake his hand.
Jeff definitely knows his material. His lectures are very fun. I thought his tests were EASY PEASY!! Foreign exchange students fail in this class :) One downfall of having him, is he is very rude. He requires you to participate in class, but every time I tried to participate he seemed to hate the questions I asked. Very unprofessional in that sense
I have been to 3 different universities and am on my senior year. I don't even like law and he was still the best professor I have had. His closing speech made me tear up. He's definetly one to look up to
He is very passionate about his job. He loves to teach and give clear examples based on the theory we had. He is also a good inspiration. Don't miss a class or you wont pass!
Jeff is a good guy and an even better orator. This is why students fall in love with him, he is a very inspirational person because he knows how to present. His class was interesting, but the whole grade is based 2 tests which are unreasonably difficult. If I could have, I would have taken it from LDS bus college and transferred the credit over.
Amazing speaker, clearly cares about his students, only a midterm and a final + participation
HANDS DOWN BEST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN!! In my senior year and best professor at the U for sure! Clearly cares about his students. The dude knows his stuff and loves teaching it. Tests are hilarious but difficult. Participation is HUGE. You will not pass if you don't. I wish there were more teachers like him!
Knows his stuff very well, and teaches you law in a way that you will understand. Attend class and read the book and you will be fine. Its not an easy class because of its subject but Jeff does a fantastic job. He cares that you understand, and will be willing to help if you do not understand something. Best professor I have had while at Utah.
Jeff is an incredible professor. I didn't know what to expect walking in, but am so thrilled I got to be a part of his class. Jeff is an incredible orator and professor and is the only one that thanked each student individually for their participation in his class. In addition, the only one I have seen receive a standing ovation from his students.
Jeff was the best professor I had in college. He is passionate about the law and teaching. Most interesting lectures I ever attended. I had 100% attendance not because my grade would be affected, but because I WANTED to attend. He took a subject as dry as the law and made me love it. Once again, best professor I've ever had.
Jeff is the best teacher at the U. I genuinely looked forward to each class period. He is funny and intelligent. Lectures are very interesting. DO THE READING! If you don't he will embarrass you.
Jeff is one of my favorite teachers at the U, he really cares about the success of his students and his lectures are always very interesting and engaging. Do the reading or he will absolutely crucify you in front of the class. It's awkward and uncomfortable for everyone. Keep up on attendance and reading and you will be just fine!
Jeff is the best. Made a three hour lecture fly by all semester. Be prepared in advance of class, he will call on you and participation points are a big part of the grade.
Jeff was great! This class really made a difference in my college career. The class is hard, but it pays off.
Absolutely fantastic. Please please take this class. It will literally change your life. No exaggeration. Jeff is a brilliant guy, with a sincere passion for learning. His level of knowledge is amazing, and he is really entertaining. Lectures are never boring, even when they are on bland things like contract law. Best class I've ever taken.
If you are able to take a class from Professor Nielsen, do it! He gave great lectures and was sincerely excited and interested in his subject. The lectures were nearly always discussion based, which made classes a lot more interesting and engaging. He is a fair grader, and leaves it up to you to be as invested as you want to in learning materials
His lectures are amazing!
Jeff is a very clear professor. Beware, if you don't read and you're name gets called on, you are in trouble. Make sure you read the assigned chapters/cases plus some. He asks questions that aren't explained in the readings, so it's beneficial to do more in-depth study of the readings. He is a funny guy, but very blunt and straightforward.
This class is unlike any course you've ever taken. Students must demonstrate a high level understanding of concepts and their real world applications. Jeff structures this course and lectures to provoke deep thought and introduces new ways of thinking. His lectures were incredibly stimulating and engaging. I would recommend his class to anyone.
Jeff is amazing. I thought I would hate business law but it ended up being my favorite class. He is brilliant and passionate about what he teaches. I would take any class that Jeff teaches.
This was an amazing class with a very thoughtful and caring professor. Class attendance and reading the articles he assigns is everything in this class. It was graded on participation, and two tests. There is a lot of reading, but he cuts it down in his amazing lectures. I would take many more classes from him if I could.
Wow, easily the best professor I have ever had. He makes himself out to be a hard ass at the beginning of the class, but he is really a softy on the inside. His class was interesting every session. It isn't easy as the material isn't easy, but he curves the both of the 2 exams. Most difficult part of the class is keeping up on the cases he assigns.
Yes, you will have to work for your grade, but yes, you will have a fun time doing it. Jeff is an amazing lecturer who really engages the students. He is very knowledgeable and wants the best for his students as long as you reciprocate with hard work. I would definitely take a class from Jeff again
There is ALOT of reading in this course, but from what I've been told, that is the nature of law. The course is totally worth being taught by Jeff, but be prepared to work really hard. There are weekly quizzes on chapter reading, discussion posts on multiple case readings, and webinars. One of the best professors I've had in my MBA!
Incredible teacher and amazing orator. Knows law well and explains it in an understandable way. Only 2 tests and participation grades, which makes it tough. Lots of reading before class. Only thing I disliked about the class was because it is participation heavy, everyone wasted class time by asking irrelevant questions. Overall, great class.
Jeff is the best professor I've had. Business Law was my favorite class. Jeff tells you up front that he is going to make you work for your grade, but he makes it so easy to do so. You HAVE to go to class to get the material, but really you would just be doing yourself a disservice by skipping simply because they're so interesting and engaging.
Jeff is an awesome professor! He made me actually enjoy learning about Law which I originally didn't think was possible. His tests are hard but straight forward. Pay attention and study and you will be just fine!
I can't recommend this class and Jeff enough! Although the class is reading heavy, Jeff's lectures are great and make you look at the readings in a new light. The midterm is fairly easy if you understand the materials and what is expected. Make sure to take good lecture notes because you WILL need them for the final .
Best class I've ever had. No busy work. Just read the assigned cases, show up to class and do well on the tests (midterm and final). Lectures are super interesting. Never a dull moment. I never used the book, but I paid close attention in lectures and studied a lot for tests.
Easily one of the best professors at the business school. He is incredibly articulate with the way he presents the material and makes it easy to understand and memorable. He gives great context on the evolution of law through historical events. I can't say enough good things about Jeff he is a boss!
Jeff has been the best professor I have had at the University of Utah. He knows the material very well and has numerous examples to clearly express the material. He is a very respectable, funny guy. Overall, an excellent professor!
Jeff is by far the best professor in the business school. Such a nice and caring man who genuinely cares about his students. Jeff is incredibly knowledgeable and makes an attempt to share it with the class during his lectures. This class is by no means easy, but is so worth taking just for Jeff. Great guy, loved the class, would HIGHLY recommend.
Jeff is nothing short of AMAZING. Attend class and pay attention! Jeff cares about his students and our future. He does what he can as a professor to help us prepare for the outside world. PARTICIPATE. I got a 96% on the midterm, 88% on the final and got a B in the class because I did not speak up in class.
Jeff is the ABSOLUTE BEST. He engages you, makes you work, drives thought, and creates a class environment that makes you want to succeed. I have no problem listening to him talk for an hour and twenty minutes and the lectures are always interesting full of real world applications. You'll love this class.
Jeff is an excellent professor. While Business Law is quite difficult, he lectures very well and the content was accessible to me. Read the book, or at the least the court cases. Only grades are 2 tests and participation, so show up and ask questions. His TA exam reviews are excellent. Jeff is funny, though very political so keep that in mind.
Unbelievable professor.
I didn't think I would like this class but his lectures are incredible and he is the reason this class has been my favorite so far. Participation is essential and will boost your grade a bunch. Extremely intelligent, very personable and doesn't move on from a topic unless he is sure everyone understands it.
This was easily my favorite class this semester. Everyone I talked to agrees. Jeff is a lawyer and challenges you a lot. Do the work and be prepared to talk about it in class. It's hard but it stretched my mind so much. MAKE SURE YOU GET HIM!! I could not emphasize how wonderful this class was. I would 100% take it again.
Jeff is a fantastic lecturer. I found it impossible to not pay attention, because he can thoroughly convince you of the importance of every thing that he feels worth mentioning in class. Tests are heavily curved, and make sure to read at least the cases before class, and ideally the chapter. And participate! At least online, if not in class.
Jeff is an impressive lecturer. His class always involves interaction with the topic being discussed. Be ready with your readings and try to participate every class. The professor will blow your mind and make everything very understandable
Very tough class. Jeff is a very interesting lecturer that makes you want to pay attention. You have to read because he cold calls on students, but all the readings are pretty interesting. Grade is based off of a midterm, a final, and participation. So participation is a big part of your grade.
Jeff is one of the best professors I've had in college. The subject matter without his insight is very, very boring, but his commentary on it will leave you speechless. There is lots of reading, but if you understand the ideas plus the examples and cases that go with them, it will be to your benefit. I highly recommend you take this class from him.
Awesome guy, but he can go on tangents. 2 tests and participation make up your grade. Reading may seem lengthy but a lot of the stuff is information that we never talked about. TA posted a review for both tests which really helped out a lot. Be prepared to talk about cases.
Absolutely amazing professor, interesting and always has something to say about something. Turns seemingly random tangents into full circle thoughts and discussions. I've taken both Business Law and 1051 from him and I'd recommend him to anyone.
Great teacher so captivating
Amazing professor. Literally one of the hardest classes I've taken but it was worth it. Jeff's lectures are amazing, you'll never be put to sleep. Like others have already said, you need to read, a lot, and participate. I would read the cases AND go over extra material like Case Briefs or Oyez.
Bravo. Best professor I have ever had. I enjoy going to class and actually learned something. If you have to take business law don't take it with anyone but Nielsen!!!!
Amazing and makes you enjoy business law. He is a captivating professor and I would recommend taking a class from him.
Jeff is one of (if not the) best professor I've ever had. His lectures are fantastic, and I loved the material. Make sure you read the cases and show up because he'll call on you from the role. If you attend class, pay attention, and take notes, then you can get a good grade without reading the textbook (which is what I did).
Excellent teacher. Clear grading criteria (midterm, part. and final) and fantastic lectures. I didnt need the book, just read the cases and most importantly what makes X tort a X tort, as opposed to Y tort. Make sure to participate in class and online and youll get an easy A and you'll learn A LOT. Hands down my favorite class of the semester
Jeff is easily the best professor I've had! He knows exactly what he's talking about it, and delivers the materials in a clear cut way. He argues passionately for every principle introduced in a way he will challenge your own thinking. He truly cares about his students who make an effort, and is a great asset to his students.
I agree with what a lot of people on here said. Jeff gives interesting lectures. You are graded on a midterm, final, and participation. I'll add, he loves to yell at the class. More than once he went off about how stupid business students are. He yells at the people he goes over cases with if they don't understand 100%. I'm glad its over.
Best professor I've had. Jeff expects a lot from students so come to class prepared and participate daily. Pay attention to readings and feel comfortable with material before class. Exams are difficult but doable if you attend every lecture and take good notes. Participate in class and online. You will truly learn a lot with Jeff. Very rewarding.
You MUST (MUST) take him for BUS1051. His class is hard, but it makes it all the more worth it. His lectures are life-changing, inspiring, and knowledgeable. You will learn things you never thought you would learn from a business class. Trust me. He is the epitome of what I was looking forward to experiencing from a college level class. PLEASE TAKE
Create flash cards off the study guides. You get 3 excused absences. Save them for the days you were not able to read the cases. If you know someone who took his class before and took good notes, ask to borrow them, could help you answer questions for participation. Try to sit front and center so he will see you when you raise your hand.
Changed my major after taking this class. Jeff truly cares about his students and the class itself, would take it again 100%.
He is the best professor I have ever had - I wish all business school instructors taught like him. You will not regret taking Business Law with him!
Take Jeff's class only if you are willing to put in the work! Truly my favorite professor of all time!! He will call out students randomly in class to discuss the cases read so READ! If you do not participate in class then participate online! For the midterm & final make sure you know the cases, he is testing to see if you can apply the concepts!
Great professor. Never read a single case and yet was one of the top performers in the class. The key is to participate a lot (25% of your grade) and take good notes. Don't be absent, because you will miss out the slides which have essential info. Participate as much as you can, and he will most likely skip you if you get selected for a case.
Hardest class to take when the professor strives to prove how much smarter he is than you. He doesn't teach anything in this class. In fact, he brags that "no one" can get an A on his exams. Great. You are teaching undergrads as if we are trying to get into Law School. We aren't. Take from anyone else but him. He requires 100% attendance. 2 exams.
Heard mixed reviews about this class but I am glad I enrolled. The lectures are electric - he is sincerely excited to talk about Business Law. Lots of reading but as long as you do that the lecture material will build on itself and stick really well. Definitely recommend any of the classes he teaches.
Jeff is the best professor I've ever had. He makes use of student participation, responding to students' comments in what seems like tangents just to bring it back and tie it directly to the material. His tests are also a work of art; they're challenging but fair because of the generous curve. 10/10 would definitely take again.
Jeff is probably the best professor at the U. He actually cares about you as a student and is very passionate about what he teaches. He teaches in a very engaging manner and it definitely helps you learn the material. He is also very interesting to listen too and is funny at times.
Easily my favorite professor ever. Hard to get an A but if you pay attention and participate youll do great. Be ready to write A LOT of essays.
Jeff is the best professor I had in my undergrad and still holds that honor as I near the completion of my graduate program. I can't even imagine the transformative experience college would be if all professors taught with the energy and zeal that Jeff does.
I've heard this class is great in-person, but beware taking it online. There was a weekly zoon discussion and attendance to it affected your final participation grade, even though the class was supposed to be asynchronous. The tests can be challenging since there are a lot of fictitious questions even though the material is real-life examples.
I thoroughly enjoyed taking Jeff's class for my first sem. He taught the material really well and I ended up leaving each class feeling inspired with a more open mind. His class and personality can seem a bit intimidating at times, but as long as you do the readings and put in the effort to participate and work on assignments, you should do great.
At the beginning of the class, I was worried about the amount of reading that we had to do each week. However, although the readings were heavy and complex, Jeff did an incredible job explaining them in-depth during his lectures and answering any questions. Participation is everything, and it is important to attend every class and contribute.
Professor Nielsen is kind, smart, and funny. He makes lectures fun and exiting and incorporates lot of discussion, though sometimes the lack of a quick break during class takes quite a toll. Beware of being called on when nobody chooses to answer. Over zoom, he tends to talk over you and interrupts you, especially if you disagree with him.
This was by far my favorite business class and business school professor. This class is heavily graded on participation in the class and on writing prompts which combined make half the grade. It isn't too difficult as long as you keep pace with the reading.
I really enjoyed this class! I loved the discussions we had in class! I think this is a class that you basically get back what you put in. So I mean read the readings and participate in the discussions and it will be enjoyable. I mean you could also kind of bypass the readings as long as you participate in the discussions.
Jeff is my favorite professor I have ever had. His classes are hard, but if you actively try to learn you will succeed! His lectures are very interesting and he is a fantastic professor.
HANDS DOWN BEST PROFESSOR EVER. Jeff is amazing, his lectures are so funny and make you think really hard about life. I was intimating by how much reading, and writing there is but, if you are at every class it is easy. He basically gives you all the answers. TAKE HIM FOR THIS CLASS... DO IT.
A great teacher just didn't love the material.
Jeff is super chill. My class was a live stream and all that was bascially required was to watch a 30 min video with 10 quiz questions and ask a question about the weekly reading in the friday group session. Also there are character exercises due every week that are really easy. Quiz and tests are open note. There are two papers in the course, easy
1051-Any person with an A- or > you can assume to be biased. The class average was a B and we got a congrats if we got anything above. If Claire was your TA, easy money. If Taha was your TA, transfer NOW!!! This class is heavily graded on if you participate every day, your grammar, etc. It's a foundations of thoughts class but is just like English.
Consistently interrupts students when trying to participate. Has no respect for diversity and inclusion. Tries to prove he is better than everyone else by raising his voice and spending most of the lecture yelling. Takes up a lot of class time attempting to place his political views onto the students. The most disrespectful professor at this school
Jeff is everything a professor should be and remains the best I've had at the U. His teaching style is unorthodox, but thats what makes him great. He challenges you and your beliefs , makes you actually think, and gives extremely animated lectures. Jeff is like a breath of fresh air in a business school filled with dehuminazing, droning nonesense.
Jeff is a great professor. The class requires a lot of reading and he will call you out on it if you haven't. One of the best professors I've had at the U. The lectures are entertaining and I def learned a lot from this course.
I am a Junior at the U and I can hands-down say Professor Nielsen has been my favorite professor. His lectures are so invigorating and make me excited to learn. He teaches hard and boring concepts in such a simple and exciting way with really helpful examples. As long as you go to class you will do great! Highly recommend!
Great professor and great enthusiasm, just make sure you follow instructions very closely on the midterm paper.
Easily the greatest professor on this campus. I don't even need to know all the professors to know that they come no where near Professor Nielsen. Truly, this class changed my life. Even if you're not a business student just sit in on his lectures and prepare to be amazed. Professor Nielsen truly is, the G.O.A.T.
He is very condescending and it almost feels like he likes to embarrass kids because he thinks he is the smartest person in the world and that only his opinion is valid. He is very politically bias and makes sure that people who coincide with a different party are stupid. He is not respectful.
Attendance is mandatory. Participation is required as well, but Jeff cuts you off and dominates the discussion so very hard to chime in to get points for your grade. Midterm and final are brutal but he curves to a B- average. He is extremely liberal and shouts his views and beats anyone who is not extremely liberal into submission.
Extremely liberal. Requires attendance and participation, but then interrupts the students trying to participate as a way to prove how smart of a guy he is. Couldn't stay awake half the time because of how boring the lectures were. Made me want to change my major so I wouldn't have to take another class with him in the future.
I had a lot of fun taking Professor Nielsen for this class. Yeah, he yells a lot and can make you feel a little dumb at times, but it's all about how you interpret what he is saying. Make sure to do the readings as they are heavily required for the class, he does randomly call on people to talk about the court cases.
Participation is required but he constantly interrupts students and goes on his own political rants. At the end of the semester, there were 5 cases we did not get to because of his lengthy rants, yet we are still responsible for all 5 of these cases on the final exam.
Jeff is easily one of the best lecturers here at the U, he has a way of speaking that really keeps you in the discussion. This class has a lot of material to go over and Jeff has his agenda of what needs to be covered. Exams are quite hard, he prides himself in having exams with an average well below ~65% but there is a very strong curve.
Jeff is an acquired taste. I enjoyed the untraditional discussion style teaching, but many times discussion was taken over by Jeff talking about something random and then a 20 minute rant would ensue. You do learn a lot in this class and he is great at giving examples and explaining. He does say he likes to trick students on the exams so beware.
You learn alot in this class when Professor Nielsen stays on subject. Unfortunately he can get side tracked for 20-30 minutes and talk about things that are very interesting, but have nothing to do with the course material and the tests. He requires participation but constantly interrupts students. constantly interrupts students' answers.
Out of the three years I have spent at the university, Jeff is the best professor... hands down. His lectures are amazing and engaging. He tells applicable stories that make sense of the nonsense that is the law. For the first two weeks, he can be off-putting, but GET THROUGH IT! Do the readings and participate in class. Get to know the TA's too!
Each class is a lecture with one outside assignment per week. Jeff is very opinionated in his beliefs, but I don't mind. He also tends to rant about random bits of knowledge but I liked it. I enjoyed Jeff's class and will remember it for the rest of my life. If you are looking for a class that will expand your mind, he is a master at doing it.
Jeff is a good professor and knows the material he is teaching. He has knowledge and passion for the subject. However, he is narcissistic, sexist, and egotistical. I loved the course material and some of the lectures were interesting, but he spent the most classes yelling at us about the readings and asking inappropriate questions.
People who complain about Jeff's classes are the ones who were too lazy to do the readings or put in the work necessary to participate in the lecture and understand the material. If you do the work you're set! Jeff is an incredibly supportive professor who challenges students to think outside of themselves, you will learn something new every class!
Great lectures, definitely holds some strong opinions but also educates his students very well on how society in general works. Great professor will give you many new perspectives. One midterm and one final-no quizzes or exams. They are both 3-4 mini essay prompts. Do the reading and invest into the class and you will be very happy.
HE IS AMAZING!
I am a firm believer that Jeff is the best lecturer in the business school. Compared to BUS1051, his law class is HARD. His exams are some of the hardest I've ever taken, so make sure to study well in advance. Utilize the TAs, do the readings, and go to class. The way Jeff teaches law is very engaging and you'll walk away having learned a lot.
He is my favorite professor ever; I have never learned so much from a single professor. I honestly would take this class for the next seven semesters of college. I wish he taught more classes so I could continuously take him. All you have to do is read a little bit a week then write a paragraph or two on what was taught. Finals take effort, possibl
He is EXTREMELY passionate about what he teaches, which can be intimidating, but he is a life changing professor with amazing class discussions. I can't recommend him enough.
BIG LAUGHS. Whether that's him telling students he enjoys litigating grown men to make them fear or telling bus students they aren't actually that smart and should switch majors. GREAT at teaching. PREPARE for hardest tests you have ever taken(doesn't matter bc the class is curved so hard, you would have to be bottom three students to not pass)
Jeff is one of the best professors I've ever come across. He is incredibly passionate about teaching and genuinely wants you to learn and succeed in his class. He can get on long rants and tangents from time to time but they're always interesting. 10/10 would take again if I could.
Professor Nielsen has to be BY FAR my favorite teacher/professor in my academic career. He can get intense at times to the point that it may be uncomfortable but he does this to make the boring stuff not boring. I would 100% recommend him to anyone who wants an interesting class that can make you laugh and make you think more about life around you.
Jeff was easily the best professor I've ever had! Be prepared to show up to every class prepared. The class was super interesting and Jeff gives great, but very intense lectures.
Jeff actually wants you to think and learn rather than just following a list of instructions like most other business professors. He was a real wake-up call for everyone in the class. I really loved that about him, but I also wish he didn't spend so much class time being pedantic and off-topic. Super charismatic and entertaining guy
Goated professy
Jeff Nielson was by far the worst professor I have ever had. He is knowledgeable about the subject, but he portrays himself as all-knowing. He will try to embarrass you if he does not like your answer and is unprofessional. I do not follow politics, but he is extremely left-wing and will go on political rants that have nothing to do with the class.
Jeff is such a good professor. His lectures are really fun to listen to and will teach you so many things about the legal system (even if they're not related to the class lol). You HAVE to read every week but I'm usually a slacker and I did just fine in the course. Don't let what you've heard about how hard the class is prevent you from taking it.
Professor Nielsen is interesting & well-versed in the topic. He has real life experience and brings a great perspective to class. His teaching style is not for everyone. I enjoyed his lectures but understood why others wouldn't. It's a discussion based class and you discuss the reading materials everyday. Participation is a big part of this class!
I absolutely loved taking a class from Jeff. He is a business professor who hates business students and he will let you know why. He is very loud and has a lot of opinions, but you can tell he's done his research. He appreciates when you bring up a new point or challenge him, but make sure you are ready to be drilled down.
Jeff is perhaps the best professor I have ever experienced. The ideas in his lectures require a little bit of preparation and higher-level thinking but it is absolutely worth it. I would recommend everyone to take this course, Jeff is an incredible speaker and has singlehandedly justified the price of tuition this year.
This professor was my favorite of all time! Although his classes were tough, I feel like I've learned in his class more than any other class I've, ever taken!
This is the best professor I have ever had so far at the University of Utah. The first day I joined his class it opened my eyes immediately. Every time I left one of his lectures it gave me a new mindset and way of thinking. This professor is very passionate about this course and wants the students to succeed not only in this course but in life.
Read the textbook, pay attention and take notes in class and you will do great! He is so inspirational and passionate. He is a liberal and talks about his beliefs a lot, however I didn't mind. He goes on tangents, but still pay attention because they relate. I would highly recommend!
Professor Nielsen is intense but incredibly passionate about the material. His lectures are engaging and thought-provoking, though attendance is mandatory. I found tools like Unstuck study and the free textbook very helpful for keeping up. Overall, a challenging but rewarding class.
Jeff is one of my favorite professors by far. He has very valuable and fun listening to lectures which he's extremely passionate about, even if a little biased. The midterm and final are tough so showing up to class, participating, and doing the readings are essential in doing well. Overall, the class can be a challenge but is very valuable.
Love Jeff, my favorite professor so far in college, wish he was teaching more classes. Inspirational lectures and willing to answer complicated questions and always finds a way to explain them in a digestible way.
Jeff is a phenomenal lecturer and cares deeply about his students. He can be intimidating at times but he uses really unique examples in his lectures, so pay attention and listen, because they will help you later on.
Great professor! Super passionate about teaching and seeing students succeed. He can be unforgiving if you don't know what you are learning in the class. Do the readings and cases before class and be prepared for cold calls.
This is actually the worst professor I've taken a class from. He always interrupts students when talking even though his class is based on participation. He will laugh at you and make fun of you in front of the class. He thinks he is always right and will tell you that you are wrong.
Don't take this class if you're sensitive. He has zero tolerance for laziness, unpreparedness, or unnecessary questions. The only people who dislike him are those who don't do their homework and expect an easy class. This is what I call a GREAT teacher—the only lecture where I hang on to every word.
This guy is a joke. Jeff often goes on rants about how he hates business students. He's told us AI would leave us all jobless and that our degree is worth nothing. Two weeks later, he goes on a tangent about how AI is a fad and will disappear like crypto and the metaverse. Which is it Jeff? He doesn't know, he just wants to hear himself talk.
Jeff is a knowledgeable man who gets too cocky about his knowledge and privilege. He insults every single one of his students by screaming at them calling us uneducated and horrible people for pursuing business. He would also call people poor if they didn't know a term. Jeff is clear on his politics, but in the end, teaches like a white man.
Great guy... Interesting lectures and a great speaker with an awesome mindset. Very poorly structured grading system compared to other sections. Very harsh. I did not get my first grade into Canvas until almost the end of the semester.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER. I would take literally every class from Jeff if I could. genuinely the most captivating lectures, and I normally have a horrible attention span. Challenging material but he loves answering questions and helping, just do the case readings and take notes in class and you'l do fine. Seriously the coolest dude ever.
Jeff was an amazing professor. He is super smart and knows a lot about many different topics. In the class, make sure to thoroughly read and participate in lectures, it will help you on the writings and on the exams.
If you put in the work to do most of the readings and actually participate in class, you will learn a lot from this class and Jeff.
Big fan, he does his big monologues and gets into character all the time, but via that he makes it easy to have the readings stick in your brain. It does suck that 66% of the grade is the midterm and final papers, just know all of your readings or really just 1 or 2 things about each author. Talk with him after class, pick his brain. Good Guy!
There are only 2 graded assignments in this class, the midterm and the final. I was ghosted by the TA Jack after emailing him at the end of the year asking to see the feedback on my final essay, which was supposed to be provided. What a joke. I prepped for weeks for this essay, Nielsen is so disinterested in his student's success it's maddening
Learned so much, and really enjoyed the class.
Jeff goes off on tangents throughout his lecture and ends up just indoctrinating you on his own opinions.Very disappointed with the way he taught Business Law because I was genuinely excited to learn the material this class. However, classes would end up being him trying to flaunt how knowledgeable he is in the law and his superior political view.
Jeff is the best professor I've ever had at the U. He can get political sometimes, but he always encourages students to make up their own minds. His biggest pet peeve is lazyness, if you don't take this class seriously you'll learn that the hard way. His lectures are engaging, and he is knowlegable and funny. His class is always full for a reason.
Jeff is the best professor I have ever had and if I could take this class again I would. His class is like listening to an inspirational podcast.
This is my favorite college class I've ever taken, largely because of Professor Nielsen. He is the smartest professor I've ever had, and he is so good at teaching content because he has an easy-to-follow example for literally every concept. The tests are hard, but if you come to class and pay attention, you'll be fine
Textbook Napoleon complex. Jeff is a bitter egotist who cares more about lecturing on his political views than covering the material in the textbook. My section didn't cover all of the topics we were supposed to because of how frequently he grumbles off about his personal politics. Avoid this guy if you can, he'll waste your time
He is the BEST! What are you doing sitting on your couch! Run to your computer and take one of his classes!
