Took his class a while ago, but wanted to say he's a lot of fun. He can be a dick about cell phones or being late, but overall he's so funny it never bothered me. Plus he's kinda cute ;)

Quite possibly the best teacher I've ever had for any subject. Very passionate about the subject - he's a self-professed math geek. Very, very helpful. Expects you to do as much as possible on your calculator, and gives you instructions on how to do it.

He's a cool teacher. Lectures are clear and very helpful. Made calculus easy and he really stressed us in studying hard. He'll tell you when the hard part is coming. And he'll give you a practice quiz before the real big quiz. Very funny...makes fun of neirds sacastically.

Honestly, I like him as a person, but this class is really hard to me. I took my 101A with an esay teacher, so i had a little bit hard time in this class. He's a funny guy, it was fun to go to his class. Fair quizes and tests, if you work as hard as you are supposed to, you will be fine.

He's so awesome. I took 101B with him about a year ago, but I still remember pretty much stuff in that class. He has a really good way of teaching that you have to understand and love calculus even you're a math-hater. His class is very interesting. He's a very nice and friendly teacher that you can count on if you have any problem.

Mr O'Connel is one of the best Math teachers ever. I'm really bad in Math and dreaded the Statistics course, but he gives everyone so many chances to pass the test. If you're not good in Math, take him. Make sure you show up and do all homework because he grades it all and it will help increase your grade.

Math for Liberal Arts was great with Mr. O'Connell. He is really funny and enthusiastic which makes a huge difference when it comes to math. He totally wants you to get the material. Definitely my favorite math teacher at Ohlone.

Statistics. Really good class! Stats is required in almost every college. O'Connell keeps up with grades and you always know what your grade is. Quizzes help prepare for the tests. Homework is vital! If you do all your homework you get to drop a quiz and test. HELPS A LOT. I ended up with a B. I started with a D! so im happy!

He only teaches this class in the summer and highly reccommend taking it with him. I have taken the other two teachers who teach this course and their class is very, very difficult. I highly recommend taking him. He makes it fun and is understanding. Plus he is a killer guitar player and that just ROCKS!

One of the greatest teachers ever! Not only is he a great guy, but he's an awesome professor and you really learn a lot from him. He loves statistics and it shows! All you need to do is pay attention in class and do ALL the homework, and you should pass easily! I felt bad since my early class was unresponsive to his humor, but he didn't mind.

I have his Linear Algebra class. The subject is hard, very theoretical. I get very low grade on the class, but I still recommend O'Connell. He tried his very best to help student. He make the test very straight forward. Lecture is important because the text is pretty confusing.

I had Mr. O'Connell for math 104 and 103. Lecture was very light with plenty of jokes. Tests were straightforward and too easy (except for Laplace Transforms...yeah, long story, but Study for that one). These are probably the most entertaining of the 30-odd courses I've taken at Ohlone, and definitely have the kindest, most positive instructor.

O'Connell is an excellent teacher. He is very clear when he teaches and he's interesting and funny.

Had him for math for liberal arts. Honestly, THE BEST math teacher I've ever had. He has great enthusiasm for the class and made class very interesting. Subject itself wans't too bad and him being the teacher only made it better. Very fair. Great teacher..TAKE HIM!

This is probably the only teacher at ohlone so far that has pushed me to acheive! He is very helpful if you are like me and suck at math and will do his best to make sure you understand the material. He doesn't use a text book he makes up his own hw so it is a little tricky to get help in the math lab. But overal great guy and actually funny!

Took his class in 2006, ever since i look for his name if he is teaching this semester too, he is smart and humorous , dont even think about it, just sign up, only if you dont like loads of humor and still being able to get the work done, then you might wanna take somebody else but for me he is the first choice...

He is fun even though he always make mistakes and be stuck by himself~ taking his one hour class is like watching a short comedy show~ If u want to get A, do homework carefully and do pay attention to what he says in class.

He is very energetic and clear. If you turn in all your hw on exam days, he will drop your worst test and quiz. He puts a lot of information up on his website including videos of him doing math problems in class and at home. They are EXTREMELY helpful. The online component of his class is amazing. No textbook. He creates his own homework questions.

Amazing teacher. By far one of the best I've had @ Ohlone. Although his office hours are a bit rough, he is always willing to help. He breaks everything down in basic english, so this is not your normal confusing math course. Fun, energetic teacher, enjoyable class. Mathis finally enjoyable. His quirky stories and sense of humor make the classroom environment fun and lively. Even though he is an overall fun loving guy, his tests are no joke. Jeff is crystal clear in what is expected of students. He is fantastically accessible via e-mail and in person during office hours. As long as you are an active participant in class and do your homework you will do well in class. As far as teaching style, the class is more of a guided tour than a transfer of knowledge.

This teacher keeps class interesting. He is funny at times, and tries to make sure everyone understands the math. His exams arnt long at all only consist of about 5-7 problems. His partial credit grading at times is questioned. He drops your lowest quiz and exam if you complete 95% of the hw so make sure you do the hw it helps your grade alot.

Best math instructor at Ohlone hands down!! I have taken him for Trig and Calc, and he is like no other. He is interactive, funny, and can be very challenging at times. Mr. O'Connell will teach you how math applies to the real world, also setting you up for success in your college career. Just don't mistake his classes for his wife's.

Jeff O'Connel is a cool guy, I had the benefit of being in another class with him where he was a student. That being said, he is a really good teacher. He teaches in a way that makes it easy for everyone to understand without making anyone feel stupid. Its easy to get an A in this class if you do your hw and show up. Its that simple.

Obviously the guy below me failed his class. I took Mr. O for Business Calculus AND Statistics simultaneously. For a guy who had only 3 days to prepare for Business Calculus due to the death of the original professor, I couldn?t even tell it was his first time teaching the class. Take any of his classes, you will not regret it.

Jeff, by far is the most knowledgeable Stats teacher I've had. I have a LD(learning disability) but was able to pass his class with help and his encouragement. DO THE HOMEWORK! Took his linear algebra class over the summer. Now THIS is an example of a professor that knows how to teach really well and be super cool/funny while doing it. Never got bored during class even though the class was during my precious summer. Most people in class got A's. Work hard and study and your guaranteed a good grade.

Math 104 is not hard, actually it's the easiest Math class compare to all the Calculus and Linear Algebra classes. Just don't mess up with your Algebra and you'll be fine. Also, you will know how to type everything in LaTeX after finish this class

Prolly the most decent math class around. However, this class is not as easy as it looks based on ratings over here. Exams are 50% of your grade. It can get tough if you don't focus. We have to work with LATEX and Mathematica multiple times. Jeff's a real funny guy though.

I want to point out that everything you learn in the class can seem difficult at first, but it pays off at the end. If you work hard throughout the whole semester and if you memorize the proofs, you should be find for the final. There are theory problems that Jeff likes to put on the homework, so good luck on those! Overall, amazing professor!

I decided to write this before classes open so that you guys can know what a great teacher Mr. O'Connell is. He makes Pre Cal easy to get and fun because he cracks so many jokes. He does make a lot of mistakes while teaching so look out for those, but he's fairly easy going and is wiling to help out any student that deserves it.

I've never taken a class with professor O'Connell, but he's helped me in my math journey. He goes out of his way to help students reach their potential. Student success, whether they are his students or not is one of his main priorities. If it weren't for conflicting schedules, I'd take him for every math class I needed. BRAVO!

This was my first time taking him as a professor and his class was very enjoyable. The class was in the summer so it was rigorous, but he did his best to make sure everyone in his class had the ability to succeed. He incorporates a lot of humor into his lectures, which I thought was refreshing. Overall, hes a very good and down to earth professor.

I absolutely loathe math, so I didn't enjoy this class. If math is a subject that you struggle with, then this class will probably be challenging for you. O'Connell is a pretty cool guy though. He doesn't teach very much, but that's typical of college math classes. Just ask questions. There are quizzes every week (ugh) and lots of homework.

Professor O'Connell is very approachable in regards to questions/clarifications. His grading criteria is very clear. Most homework questions are directly covered in class. You are allowed to do the homework as many times as you want, quiz questions are given prior. This class is very relevant and informative if taken seriously. An A is possible.

Pay attention to lectures because it's harder to understand on your own. He gives practice quiz and test which have the same questions as the real one. Do 95% of the homework and he will drop the lowest quiz and test.

Going into DiffEQ, I thought the class would be difficult, but Prof. O'Connell made it easy to understand. I never knew just how much DiffEQ could be applied to our daily lives until after this class. He's a really fair grader and seems like a fun guy to be around. You will definitely fall in love with this prof and leaving him is going to be very hard! If you pay attention and participate in class, time goes by so fast. Online homework and homework journals, but they are VERY easy to do. He is very friendly and a great person. Semester goes by so quickly in his class! He makes doing math Mon-Thurs tolerable!

I had professor O'Connell from Algebra 2 up until Calculus 1 and he is an amazing teacher. He genuinely cares about his students' success and he will keep going over the topic until you understand it. If you care about your grade and put in your end of the effort he will help you get an A. I hated math but he got me to like it and be good at it.

My math skills is not so good but when I met with Professor O Connell, he makes the class be confident to do well in tests and finals. Lectures are amazing and not get boring till the end of the semester, so i will take his class again.

I absolutely hate math, but I really liked this teacher. I usually don't do good in math but I did pretty well in his class. If you do the homework, the quizzes and tests will be super easy for you and the mock exams are exactly like the tests. His lectures are long but he's a good guy and easy grader. I would take him again if I could.

Took a total of 5 classes with O'Connell. Hands down the best math prof at Ohlone. Main reason is he tests on quote "mastery of HW, not mastery of material". Liked his lecture style, very enthusiastic and funny. Something else that's cool is that he'll give you access to some pretty expensive and sophisticated software to do math with and teach you how to use it. Can come in handy when finding a job. Won't give you ridiculous problems on exams, just do the HW honestly and you'll be fine.

Know every problem in the textbook, ask questions and you'll get a high B. Go to his office hours for clarifications, dig deeper into the material, and you'll get an A. He's good at explaining concepts but can be frustrating at times.

This professor does a very good job at helping students learn the material. I had him for Linear Algebra and as much work as he gave (yes he was hard on us), hardly anyone in the class got D's or failed the class. In addition, he has a very good sense of humor and is easy to talk to.

The best math professor at Ohlone! Please take his class especially if you have to take higher math classes, you won't regret it. He's very helpful and easy to talk to. He's an amazing professor who will explain math to you in ways you never thought you would be able to understand. Work hard and you'll be happy with your grade in his class. :)

I took Professor O'Connell for Spring 2020 during the Covid-19 Pandemic. And to be honest I'm so glad that I did. I have never seen a more devoted Prof to his students. The class is not an easy pass, you have got to put in your own effort and practice a lot, P. O'Connell is always there when you need help. Don't slack, be on time, and ask questions

To this day, I am embarrassed to thank Mr. O'Connell for how much he helped me in my life. I joined the OMG program halfway through, and the day before an important exam, I lost someone very close in my life (however not family at all). He calculated that my grade was going to be a B even if I got 100% and waived it. Professor, I graduated Davis!

Profesor O is possibly one of the greatest professors I've had at Ohlone. I struggle heavy with math and he made Calc and Pre Calc incredibly easier to work with. He has videos on the weeks material and theres a ton of wiggle room to make up points outside homework (quizzes, quiz notebooks, etc.)

Professor O is the best professor or teacher that I have ever had. The reason isn't because he is an easy grader or his classes were a breeze. It's because he cares about his student's success. He's motivated me to keep working hard and I am so grateful to have taken a few of his courses. He also makes class fun and is an enthusiastic instructor.

Professor O has great system in his class overall with somewhat of a hybrid system with his teaching. Good video lectures and will explain anything you ask him in class. Pushes you to do better and do good. 10/10 best professor I've had.

Professor O'Connell is an awesome math professor. He lectures some amazing stories on some days and they are so fun and interesting. He gives a lot of math homework since it is a compressed schedule, but it really motivates me to do the homework and keeps me busy. He's also super organized too! I recommend joining OMG if pursuing a Stem major.

Great professor! Teaches very well. Differential Eq is a very important class and Prof O will make sure you will understand the material. Quizzes are easy and tests challenge you just enough. Responds fast and is very caring! Prof O is really funny and my favorite professor I've had at Ohlone so far. Also, don't be alarmed but he is 6'5"!!!

Professor O'Connell is a math professor I highly recommended. He is very thorough, provides excellent support, and wants his students to be successful. He gives out practice problems to prepare for big exams which is a big help!

Professor O'Connell was one of the most understanding and carrying teacher I've ever had. He made the class very easy for everyone to understand he was very nice and gentle and I would definitely take his class again.

Amazing. The best math professor I've ever come across because he is clearly passionate and happy teaching his students. He makes it straightforward to understand concepts, and he understands how to apply the math he is teaching. I would 100% take his class again and he wants you to succeed- he makes guidelines clear- no grade should be a shock.

I think professor O is the best professor at Ohlone. Professor O has a really good skill set for being a great at teaching. I struggled a lot in math but his examples and practice exam questions were very helpful.

bro if you aint taking this guy what are you doing lets be real, EZ A and the amount of things you learn is crAzy he engraves that on your brain, if you didnt learn anything you either just never showed up to class or were on your phone the entire semester !!

Professor O'Connell is an engaging teacher who makes the material easy to understand. The class is challenging, but with Unstuck ai and the free textbook, I was able to succeed.

Really great guy, you can tell he really cares for his students. Only thing is he grades WAY TOO HARD!!! taking off -3 pts for something that could be -1 or even waived. Not generous with partial credit at all, but he's a really great person. Also makes a lot of jokes, and remembers every student's names which is nice.

For grades, he is super lenient with it and you're guaranteed to get an A even if you are averagely active in his classes (Don't miss his classes It's literally a hidden treasure!!!) and complete his homeworks. Lecture wise, professor O' knows how to keep the class engaging yet deliver what's crucial for you. His classes usually runs out early!

Everything is super clear in terms of class structure and grading. Class time is pretty much answering hw questions and just clearing up understanding. If he feels the class is behind, he'll push due dates/quizzes/exams back. Very good understanding of students, and a great teacher. Take him!

I've found that his lectures are engaging and fun. He knows how to make jokes to keep you engaged, and a lot of the work done in class is to clear up confusion from the homework from the previous night. His explanations of the concepts are easy to comprehend, and he works out problems to help you gain a better understanding.

Professor O is one of the best math teachers I've had! I was in the first group to take his Linear Algebra class asynchronous. His videos are engaging and if you have questions you can go to office hours. The tests were made up of true/false questions, computation questions, and proofs. Do the homework and attend study sessions and you'll be fine!

W professor for linear algebra, you'll learn a lot.

A lot of extra credit, and tests are based off of homework. Watching the lectures helps lot. Professor O's bald head is a ray of sunshine in my gloomy world

A great teacher and person. Lectures are available online and in-person, though you may find more value in the in-person lectures. Grade is assessment heavy (80% of grade), but Mr. O'Connell gives partial credit. Make sure to show your work clearly. There are a few opportunities to boost your grade if you do the homework.

Hands down one of the best professors in the STEM division at Ohlone. His lectures are very engaging and fun to listen to. Time in class goes by really fast. Make sure you do the homework the practice exams. The exams are very similar to the practice exams he provides.

Took him for the first time for linear algebra class and it was awesome. A lot of extra credit through out the semester. So much homework and discussion problems every week. Homework problems cover everything on the test. Definitely recommended for linear algebra.
