Required class for MSM in RMI. Ins Acct difficult for non-business undergrad, but professor does a lot to try and help you succeed.
Very Hard class no matter what teacher you take, but, he's the eaiest of them. Do all the quizes, come to every class and do the assigned work and you'll pass, but still hate yourself for choosing accounting as a major.

amazing teacher. I highly recommend!
Awesome teacher! Take him!!
I have had Paterson for Tax I & II and got an A in Tax I. Tax II is a lot more challenging though. Paterson is the BEST teacher, but IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE TAX II, DON'T! A lot of us took it as an elect thinking it would be good for the CPA but Tax I covers 90% of what you'll need. Everyone is ending up with low B's and C's in an ACG elective.
He teaches from his packet way too fast, never realizes that students haven't learned the stuff in the packet, so he just skims over it fast bc he obviously knows it already. Every class is just playing catch up with what he is saying and writing notes, without ever understanding. Come test time, your stuck having to learn it all on your own.
Too fast, unhelpful, very small curves on tests everyone does bad on
Dont take this class if it is not required. The CPA only covers a portion of this class, and the professor goes way too in depth. Everyone does bad on the exams, small curves, and you will be lost in class after 5 mins. Teaches so fast that its impossible to remember and comprehend, then he moves to the next topic and ur left clueless
One of the nicest professors in the COB. Will take time out of his day to help you out if you need it. Yes, tests require studying. welcome to grad school.
His online lectures are absolutely unbearable, completely monotone and you can hear him yawning. He uses the test banks directly from the book, which are EXTREMELY difficult and then gets confused why no one does well. Literally have to know the text book in and out to get a good grade in this class.
It was my second time taking the class, & since Pierno didn't work out, I figured learning online would be better. It was! The professor was very insightful, & the review questions, and slides, helped out a lot. Take advantage of office hours when you get the chance, and go over the homework and quizzes as well. It's not easy, but not impossible.
Overall a very difficult class to take online and would take it in person if I had the option again
I highly recommend taking this class online. Accounting is a tough class but Paterson is there for you, as long as you put in work & effort. Just do his quizzes & HW & you'll be fine & don't study 2 nights before exams. Best part of this class is that you can do quizzes repitively to prepare for exams!
I would highly recommend taking financial accounting with him, he is very clear and really wants his students to succeed. Whenever you have a problem go to his office hours hes super helpful and wants to make sure you understand the material. Always do the end of chapter textbook problems if you can do them you will get an A on every test.
I took this class in 13 weeks during the summer semester. I was skeptical about taking an online class, especially one notorious for being a tough class. 12 chapters are covered and he posts a really good video lecture for each chapter. If you put time and effort into this class you should be okay. It is a hard class but I definitely recommend him.
I took this class in the Fall (2015). Great profeesor who goes over & beyond to ensure his students do well on the exams. Highly recommend. I studied solely from textbook (couldn't stay awake listening to his lectures) and did the homework problems over and over again. Made an A.
This professor's course and teaching material needs to perhaps be examined and/or inspected by the school. Lectures have next to no relevance to the tests or quizzes. Quizzes have many mathematical and definitive errors that require selecting an incorrect answer to receive credit. Lectures also have occasional mistakes that aren't fixed.
Missed my final and he allowed me to retake it. Good hearted guy and cares about student success. Just be real and do the homeworks till you get 100 and you'll do great.
Took the class online over summer and had to take it again in fall to get a passing grade. I worked 40 weeks over summer and studied almost 2 hours every night and was still not even able to pull off a C. Such a hard class and wasted extra time over my summer
4 midterm exams and 1 cumulative final, 10 very easy discussion board posts and 10 chapter quizzes. You're able to retake the chapter quizzes until you get a 100. I got an A in the course by studying & retaking the chapter quizzes like 5 times each. Some test questions come directly from those chapter quizzes
Online class so basically you have to teach everything yourself. Really tough class just have to find the right way to study. Be prepared to live in stroz the week of your test.
Took this class online for spring semester, it was challenging the entire time and I spent a lot of time studying and doing the homework in preparation for the tests. 5 Tests but lowest one is dropped. There is no extra credit but he does put a slight curve on the tests. Homework takes a long time so don't save it for the last minute. Read the book
Definitely take online! Even if you take it in person you'll have to watch the online lectures or read the book to understand the material. He's a good guy. He's the best option for this class because he curves every exam and lets you drop one exam (final can be dropped). Textbook is mandatory and cheap on Amazon. QUIZZES ARE THE BEST WAY TO STUDY!
Tests are brutal but one is dropped. Does NOT curve tests anymore(or hasn't yet). Tests are similar to online quizzes. Don't expect to do good on exams if you cant get A's on the quizzes. Class really makes you work for it. Took it online and needed to dedicate many hours per week in order to pass. Goodluck!
took in class and didn't really go besides fridays when attendance was taken. there is a skoolers for this and that saved my life. def take the quizzes a lot and learn definitions for each chapter from the book. hard class but can manage to pass it if you put in the work. averaged about 20 hours of studying per exam and usually got around 70s/80s
Jeff Patterson could quite possibly be the worst professor I have ever taken at this school. His lectures and test questions don't match up at all. His wording is poorly on test questions and is no help to students. So much so that a majority of the class had to go to a tutoring service to get help for the class. FSU needs to do something about him
WORST PROFESSOR EVER. You are wasting your time taking an in person class because Skoolers is the only reason I got a B in this class. Patterson has no clue how to teach, he gets distracted so easily and forces the TA's to teach you half of the lectures. USE SKOOLERS!!!!!!!
Patterson is such a nice teacher who really cares about his students. Monday and Wednesday lectures are useless, but Friday lectures really helped. This class is really difficult & takes self motivation (hey, its college). It is completely clear what he expects from you, so he doesn't throw any curve balls. GO TO PASS SESSIONS they are life savers!
This is a difficult class, but Patterson does everything he can to help his students. He tells you exactly what you need to do to pass. His tests, while difficult, are straightforward and not designed to trick you. Don't let yourself fall behind! Study every week and use the weekly quizzes to judge what you need to review from the chapter.
If you buy the book and practice at least 3 hours a week, you can skip every lecture (helpful if you dont like waking up early) and get an A. Patterson is very helpful when it comes to grading. He wants you to not only pass but to excel.
Great Professor! Weekly quizzes. You are able to take them until you get a 100. If you watch the lecture and take the quizzes multiple times you should be able to get A's on exams. There are 4 exams and a final, but the final can replace all low exam grades. Final is cumulative. Exams are from the quizzes so take them multiple times.
This class is so hard. I almost ended up with a D, but at the end I got my grade up to a C. If you use the quizzes to study for the exams you will be fine, but I did not realize this until near the end of the course. This class will take up most of your time and made me miss Recess a lot :/ Issa sacrifice
Gotta work very hard in this class and you still prob won't make an A. Very difficult and lots of info needed to know for exams. Found lectures pretty pointless even though I went to everyone, and found the TAs to be way better than Patterson at teaching this. Do graded and ungraded quizzes until perfection, or else you won't pass.
This man gets such a rap. He is actually a very nice guy that cares so much about his students doing well. The bad thing about this class is not him being a bad professor, it is so much material that has to be learned in such a short amount of time. The material is not the easiest stuff either. If you really take notes and try you will do well.
The class is pretty hard if you dont put in the work. You can do well by doing the quizzes over and over until you understand the material.
Extremely difficult. Only reason I passed was because of Skoolers. studied so hard for every test and I did poorly on all of them. Fortunately the final exam was not difficult at all if you studied enough of each chapter. It saved my grade by changing each of my low test scores to a 75. Just understand 70% of each chapter for final and you'll pass
Do not take Patterson unless you absolutely have to. He is a nice guy, but he purposefully words test and quiz questions to trip you up, and has even admitted to doing this intentionally! He turns an introductory class into a difficult class that I dreaded every day.
Do not recommend this professors. Material is difficult and professor makes it harder than it seems to do. Test and quizzes include material that he has not taught. No extra credit given as well.
The worst professor Ive ever had. Lectures and reviews are nothing like the quizzes and tests. Gives you unlimited attempts for quizzes but you have to take the quiz 5 times in order to get an A because he didnt teach you the material. Only hope is to spend weeks taking ungraded quizzes and reviewing old tests in order to do well on final
I do not recommend taking this professor. I took this class and expected it to be an introduction level class but he made it so much harder than that. I am now failing this class and I was on the dean's list last semester. The quizzes do not cover what was in the powerpoints and the exams are way too hard. I even had a tutor and still am failing.
Awful teacher. Only way to survive this class is taking Skoolers. All of Patterson's videos are completely worthless. Very difficult class but if you consistently do Skoolers all semester you can survive
This class is miserable. Hardest class I've taken in my life. Only able to do the bare minimum after hours of effort in skoolers. The tests are wayyyy harder than they need to be and are completely out to trick you.
Do not recommend this class unless you are able to teach yourself. Lectures do not really help learn whats going to be on the tests. Information on exam is different to what is taught and your grade is very dependent on what you get on the exams.
Hardest class I've taken at FSU. I bought spoolers, went to ACE and attended every lecture, but still ended up dropping. Patterson doesn't know what he's doing. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Good luck with this class. He is probably the worst teacher at FSU and he doesn't even teach in his class. The only way you'll pass is if you get the Skoolers packets and keep repeating the ungraded quizzes over and over. There's no other alternative to him so you're pretty much stuck unless you take this class at home.
I am taking this course online. This class makes you work for your grade but is a weed-out class for this major. He lets you retake quizzes until you get the score you want and replaces your lowest test grade with the final if you do good on it. If you want an easy course take it at TCC because you need to work for your grade in this class
DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT take this class. I failed TWICE. Their is so much pressure on the final and then its all conceptual and unlike any of his other tests. I got the skooler packet AND STILL failed. I honestly recommend just doing it at TCC or another community college. I literally have never had a worse teacher. He doesn't explain anything!
He is honestly the most boring dude, and class isnt even helpful. He goes on tangents, and makes the concepts harder to understand. Only option at FSU and that needs to change. He personally made me want to change my major.
In the online class u are given a quiz on each chapter which you are given unlimited attempts on. You will then have 3 exams and one final. Zero extra credit. Definitely isn't an easy class as accounting is not an easy major. Don't take the online class unless u r already familiar with the material or a hardcore studier. Study the ungraded quizzes.
Don't buy the textbook. Get skoolers tutoring if you can! Make sure to redo and redo and redo the homework assignments (graded & ungraded) to prepare for exams! Lectures are basically pointless but I still went. He spends the first 20 mins talking about the test FORMAT, not even what's going to be on it. Nice guy, not the best prof for this class
Awful. Absolutely awful. Would not recommend to my worst enemy.
I failed this class twice. TWICE. I am an A student and I couldn't pass this class. Like I really recommend taking it at TCC because I got an A and didnt put nearly the amount of work I did for Patterson's class. Just save yourself.
Don't know why this class is rated so bad, just make sure you do all the quizzes and know them like the back of your hand because the tests are the exact same questions with different numbers in them so nothing will surprise you on the exams. You are going to have to put in a lot of time because there's a lot of material, an A is very achievable.
Study the graded quizzes for the exams and you should be fine. Do your homework so you dont have so much pressure on the final like me. The final is very fair if you study hard and know the main stuff from each chapter.
Patterson is very knowledgable on accounting but some lectures get boring or he goes on a tangent. Other than that he is a solid teacher who effectively teaches the class. Weekly quizzes are online and add up to a test grade at the end of the semester. Other than that there are 3 tests throughout the year and a final, which can change previous test
I was not one of those students who never showed up to class or never studied. I spent a ludicrous amount of time studying several days in advance and still failed this impossible class. I only found out about skoolers until it was too late. Patterson is not a caring professor, his lectures are confusing and condescending, and wont care if u fail.
This is hard class in general. I really do think that Patterson wants to help, I just dont think hes the best professor. His lectures can be confusing and not similar to the homework. Get skoolers and you will do fine!! Bought skoolers did all the reviews and I practices Pattersons questions for tests. got an A, but you have to put in the time!!
All I can recommend to get an A in this course is keep up all semester and buy the skoolers package. Also doesn't hurt to do the ungraded quizzes before your tests. When studying for the final use skoolers and practice exams.
Get ready to put in work. If you don't take the graded quizzes until you want to rip your eyes out, you won't do well in the class. There are a lot of concepts and equations to memorize and understand, so I recommend Skoolers. It's not like it's impossible to get an A, but it definitely isn't a walk in the park. You've got to be ready to grind.
This is a College of Business weed out class so it is made to fail or deny admittance. It is unnecesarily difficult. Accounting is sheer memorization so as long as you memorize the quizes and go over the lectures several times, you will be fine. Several students fail this course because they do not put in the work. Hours studied per exam is like 15
I went to both classes, bought skoolers, did the ungraded and graded quizzes, and put countless hours into this class and still got a D. The class is hard. He just is not a good teacher.
This class is way too difficult for an intro class. Patterson covers every single aspect of the textbook and if u don't know every little detail, you won't pass. I took the graded quizzes to perfection and I had skoolers and still failed. Take a different professor over the summer, this class isn't worth it.
Take this online because lectures really aren't worth going to. Buy skoolers for the full semester, do both graded and ungraded quizzes until you ace them each time, and put time into studying!!! If you do this, you literally don't even have to communicate with Patterson. The class is difficult for sure, but definitely not impossible to pass.
GET SKOOLERS!!!!!! everyone saying they failed and they still had skoolers are just sad. Skoolers makes the class do able. Yes this material is tough, but skoolers simplifies it so much anyone can understand it.
This is BY FAR the hardest FSU class I've had and I am a senior. Wanted to take this class because it was an intro course but JESUS is this professor horrible. 11 quizzes that are unlimited attempts and easy that only makeup 10% of your grade, the rest 90% is 3 exams which are nearly impossible to pass. I am an A student and I have a D, STAY AWAY!
As the first real weed out class for most business majors; an engaging, caring, and dedicated professor is a must for us underclassmen (especially online). Unfortunately for me, professor Patterson was none of these things. Exams are weighted extremely high, all lectures are pre recorded and DULL, and tutoring is done only by TA's. STAY AWAY!
Just study the graded and ungraded quizzes for the tests and the final exam practice tests and quizzes for the final. He curved us last minute which was really nice so it brought me to a B. Don't expect much from him other than that though. Use skoolers if you have it but just the test review no need for chapter reviews. Redo the quizzes ALOT!!!!
Patterson gives you all the tools to be successful, you just have to work for it. I was able to get a 97 in this course by doing his lectures and studying the quizzes over and over again. People say he is a bad teacher because they do not want to put in the effort to learn. It's time consuming, but Patterson does a great job presenting material.
This is my second time taking this class after dropping it last semester. This class is by far my most hated and boring class. The long, repetitive, monotone, boring, seemingly useless lectures will be the end of me. Dude seems smart, but his voice makes you want to drop out of college.
Coming from a non accounting major, this class is by far the hardest class I have ever taken. Don't take this class if you don't have to. Buy skoolers before the first day of class and study that over and over. His lectures are super boring to the point that they are unwatchable. Get skoolers, study that, and you should be fine. Good luck soldier.
God this class sucks so much. Worst thing I've ever had to do. This class is straight up a living hell do yourself a favor if you want to survive college do not take this class. Dry af lectures, super specific test questions, and 20 question long quizzes every week. Content is so boring and never makes sense. God save you if you take this class.
Paterson is overall just an awful teacher. Don't even bother watching the lectures or reading his notes. Start the semester off by getting Skoolers and then study for each test by taking his ungraded quizzes a million times.
A lot of people hate the class bc its really hard but I really don't think its Prof. Pattersons fault. Its designed to be a hard "weed out" class and a lot of people just don't put in the effort. I had to retake it which was my fault and he was really helpful in communicating with me. Its a hard class, put in the effort and you'll see the results.
Yeah... not a good professor. Insanely boring lectures. Barely got a B to pass the class (you need a B if you are an accounting major). Does not respond to email. Basically self study. Have As in all other classes except this one. EDIT: Curved to A-
Just retake the quizzes a LOT!!!! Those questions are the same as the test and it's helpful to get familiar with them. The lectures don't help, so you are on your own to learn the material. Personally, I did well on exams 1,2,3, but I found the final tricky. If you put the work in and retake the quizzes plenty, you'll be fine.
USE PATTERSON'S NOTE PACKET! Despite "Skoolers being the best, and Patterson's vid lectures are irrelevant," I got a great grade w/o it. Putting in the effort you need to take detailed notes and understanding what he's saying in lectures is key. You'll do great if you put in the time from Week 1; going through the motions won't cut it. Good luck!!
bought the skoolers exam reviews and never watched the lectures he provided. did decent on the unit exams, he drops your lowest which is good. final was mad hard, alot of conceptual garbage. buy skoolers and do the ungraded quizzes a million times before the exams and you should do fine. dont do the optional homework, waste of your time.
It really isn't that hard if you just watch the lectures and do the homework over and over. Don't bother wasting money on Skoolers or whatever that is, just put in the work watching the lectures and you will get an A.
Absolutely the hardest class I have ever taken, whcih could be more to the accounting side of things than Patterson himself. But is of no help at, just posted recorded lectures from who knows when. And you are given nothing to use on tests making it near impossible to remember every formula and term given in the truckload amount of notes per unit.
Very hard class, but Patterson structures it so that you can succeed if you work for it. Do all you can to get 100s on the graded quizzes and study hard for the tests. Theres tons of material and some concepts take time to understand, but Patterson does try to help you and isnt out to fail you. DO THE UNGRADED QUIZZES A BILLION TIMES BEFORE TESTS
The people who are giving him low rating are the ones who didnt put any time into studying.. i can tell you that right now. He isnt the best at teaching but the way his class is structured is amazing. he provides his students with practice quizzes and as long as you do them you will do good on the exams. when it comes to acg u just have to practi
I just completed this class. I am extremely surprised that this lazy man still has a job. His lectures are always terrible and only confuses you on the subject matter because of the amount of information he except you to retain. Most people should get a tutor for this class, you'll need it. Avoid this teacher, unless he is your only option.
Definitely the hardest class that I've taken so far. 25% grade based on the final and 50% based on the exams. Lowest of the three exams is dropped. No extra credit but there was a small curve at the end that boosted me from an A- to an A. I didn't get Skoolers, just did the ungraded quizzes over and over all day for about 3 days before each exam.
I took this class as my last credit for my minor. Prof only gives 10 quizzes and 4 exams. Only gives videos of him skimming word documents. When you email him he says he can't help or doesn't know why you aren't doing well. Or he ignores you. As a none business major he was not helpful at all or understanding that I did not have much knowledge.
Take all of the negative reviews with a grain of salt - I got an A+ in this class and it is possible, but you MUST put in the work. Cant wait until the last day to do the quizzes/study for exams. He gives you all of the exam questions, you just need the time to work through & understand them. Also, textbook is optional but I found it helpful.
Patterson isn't the most entertaining in his lectures but he is very knowledgable. I definitely suggest getting Skoolers or some sort of tutoring.
Ive taken him twice now and wouldn't recommend him. "Lecture" is him reading over word for word an outline of the chapter that you also have access to. You have to teach yourself the entire course. 11 quizzes 3 exams, Exams are more then 60% of your grade and they're not easy, practice exams are not like the actual exams. If avoid his class do so.
Very challenging course, doesn't teach much material to prepare you for what is on the test. I would suggest a different professor
If you follow the Target Packet with his lectures you'll be able to pass the class, the lectures are pretty boring but short and informative, if not get Skoolers. Use the ungraded quizzes from the chapters to prepare for the exams and you'll pass because the questions are pretty much the same format just different numbers.
Professor Patterson fails to teach a single concept, leaving it up to the student to learn and master all concepts by themselves. The only thing he bothers doing is reading off of a packet that he requires students to purchase, with little to no extra information, and describes it as a "lecture". Pathetic excuse for a professor, avoid at all costs.
Get ready to teach yourself the entire course. This man is a joke to this top 20 university. If I were you id skip out on buying the textbook and watching his lectures and just use Skoolers.
Doesn't teach at all, gives a lot of homework that feels like busy work, it takes hours if you do it yourself. Had to buy skoolers to have somewhat of a clue of what was going on. Makes a hundred different versions of quizzes and tests.
Definitely not the best at teaching material for the class. He has a packet full of all the notes that can help for the exams. He posts ungraded quizzes for each chapter with questions nearly identical to the ones on the exam. Not as bad as people make it.
This class was much easier than I expected. I didn't get skoolers and passed with a 98. If you watch his videos explaining each chapter and practice the ungraded quizzes repeatedly you will do just fine. Don't bother spending too much time on the exercises or overview videos. He drops one test grade & gives extra credit. Easy A just put in effort.
The class isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Buy the note package Patterson recommends at the beginning of the semester and take notes along margin during class. I ended with an 86% in the class without paying for Skoolers. Just retake the practice quizzes over and over again. They contain questions in the same word bank as the actual exams
It is a weed-out class, plain and simple. Patterson is a competent professor and knows his stuff. As of time of writing, ones grade is determined by homework, three exams, and a final. Practice quizzes (and a practice exam for the final) pull from the same test bank as the real things. Do your time and you will do well. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE.
The video lectures could be a little better but the quizzes and exams are very easy. As long as you put in a couple hours a week you will get a good grade
Was not the biggest fan of this class, but I liked how Prof Patterson made the class structured so you know what to expect each week. He drops the lowest exam grade and the exams are just like the quizzes but different numbers. Unlike other professors, Prof Patterson does care about his students and will help you if you email him. Just do the work.
He explains the material very well with great detail. The course is graded by very things which is 75% tests and homework consisting of 25% of the cumulative grade. He provides a decent amount of extra credit for the tests and makes it very easy to study as the quizzes are the same as the test. Overall a great teacher.
Patterson knows a lot about accounting but I don't think he's that great at teaching it. HW and quizzes kind of feel like busy work because they are nothing like the tests. Lecture videos are extremely boring and pretty vague so you have to teach yourself majority of the content. The class isn't impossible but not at all enjoyable.
Not that bad of a class. 3 homework assignments a week and 4 exams all semester. Get skoolers and youll get an A. Spam his practice exam before each exam and with skoolers theres no way you dont get at least a B.
Good lecturer, but the labs were useless. Most of the TA's were horrible at their job. Lot's of vocabulary-based knowledge. I'm not good at memorization, but Patterson was a good professor. He did manage to make the lectures somewhat interesting by tying in real-world events often.
knowledgeable, but I don't enjoy teaching style (explains concepts & practice probs from a Word doc). 3 assignments/week: concept vids (easy), exercise (tedious, sometimes difficult), & quiz (unlimited attempts). he drops lowest exam (not including the final). very possible to do well if u get 100s on quizzes and STUDY (NOT an easy 'A' pls focus)
If you don't have Skoolers for this course, you probably wont pass this class. He is a horrible professor and the things he assigns don't help on the exams at all. The only thing he provides that helps is the practice exams.
get the skoolers packet and use pattersons practice exams to study for exams. it has the same questions as the exams.
Very challenging. His teaching style is not good for the difficulty of the material. Possible to pass if you spend days and countless hours studying for exams. The exams aren't very similar to practice exams. Be ready to teach yourself if you don't get skoolers because lectures don't explain anything.
I was worried going into this class based on his previous reviews, but honestly Professor Patterson was a competent, caring teacher. I've had better but l've also had much much worse. He understands the lecture material and genuinely wants you to learn. This is not an easy class, what get what you put in. Be ready to study!
Do not listen to people complaining this is an EXTREMELY doable class IF u r willing to study. If you merely rely on his lectures u will prob do bad, but so long as u read through material on ur own, actually understand it, and do the practice exams (which pull from the same question pool as the actual exam) you will do completely fine!
This class is VERY doable. Stay organized, get a binder to keep his lecture notes in, WATCH THE VIDS (they can be boring but speeding them up helps), do do do the HWK!! THE QUIZZES and PRACTICE EXAMS are literally the exam. he takes the same questions and recycles them, adds dif numbers. go to his TA's they r great. you'll survive!
Very unhelpful videos but the class is very easy because he gives you unlimited attempts for every homework assignment. The tests are worth a lot but the practice tests he gives you are basically the same as the test, so not too hard to get an A in the class, however the content is hard and the notes are useless. You do not need to get skoolers.
Worst professor I have taken so far. He genuinely does not want anyone to do well in this class and his extra credit is basically worth nothing to your grade. The only curve he offers is turning the grading scale down one point. The only nice part about this class is that he is very clear about the assignments.
I only listened to one of his lectures and bought Skoolers. Skoolers worked well for me, and the key to doing well on the exams is taking the chapter quizzes or practice exams over and over again. All his questions are pulled from a bank, so the more familiar you can get with the questions the better. TAKE THE PRACTICE EXAMS!!!
Pretty chill, don't need skoolers, missed A by 1 question on lash exam. Take practice tests and get 100s on all homework's.
The way he has structured this course is extremely unfair. It is almost like he wants every student to fail. Yes, accounting
The people saying how "awful" this class is, and how they needed to buy skoolers to pass, just don't know how to study for a college class. He provides so many resources to do well and every assignment has unlimited attempts. He even gives you practice exams that pool from the same questions as the real exams. Really not that bad if you try.
YOU DON'T NEED SKOOLERS. He already gives a lot of assignments so adding skoolers will overwhelm you. Videos are tough, but they work. He gives like 3% worth of extra credit, beware because he hides the opportunities in announcements. From what I found the more practice exams you do the harder your exam is? So just do the practice quizzes ifykyk.
INSANELY difficult
hard overall, drops lowest test. final was hardest by far
This was literally the hardest class i've ever taken in my life. Those homeworks really screwed my grade, so time consuming. Also, studying for the exams is easy, just do the practice test over and over and the ones you get wrong read the captions to figure out how to do them right next time.
His lectures were super boring. I'd recommend buying the packet from the bookstore instead of going to lectures. Exams are tough, but he gives you practice exams that are identical to the real test ahead of time. If you do them on repeat, you'll understand his tricks. Unlimited attempts on hw, which is about the only saving grace in this course.
His lectures weren't helpful for exams, but he is a nice guy. take the practice exam as many times as possible and you will be okay once you start consistently getting above a 80% on them. FIN3403 is worse than this class imo
Patterson is a good professor. He makes it clear on the best way to succeed in the class even though the content can be challenging. Take the practice tests to study for the exams, it helps a lot. Also, make sure to get high grades on the homework and quizzes. He also drops the lowest exam but not the final. Gives some extra credit opportunities.
If the class itself wasn't already hard enough he is incredibly rude. I went and asked him for help and told me to watch the lecture. He said it was my fault for not understanding.
He is a good professor. Extremely passionate about accounting, but the only way he teaches is via lecture. He does not assign any hands-on or collaborative work, and jumps right into the material at a pace that is hard to keep up with. Although he does allow you to ask questions and answers them well. Either you like it or you don't.
During the course the lectures get easier to follow. Knows the content well and answers all questions. Allows many opportunities to learn and get higher grades on assignments. Study for the first exam and the rest of the class is very easy. You're able to retake quizzes and assignments as much as you would like. Super nice guy.
he said hawk tuah
He is really nice and understanding when you email him. The class is hard. Like studying 12 hours minimum to do well on an exam. Studying for the final now, it's extremely hard and you should start studying 2-3 weeks before the final. He's nice himself it's just the class that's way too hard.
The professor is nice, but the class is really difficult to learn in. The online lectures were painful to watch, and I had better luck studying the textbook chapter cheat sheets and redoing the practice exams and quizzes (which have unlimited attempts, so really easy to get good grades on all the work). But the exams required a lot of preparation.
I took the class online and referenced the textbook a lot but primarily watched the pre recorded lectures. The professor seemed very enthusiastic about the content and was very good at explaining it and it always felt like the pacing was spot on. Accounting is some good stuff. W Patt W ACG W FSU
Is not considerate at all one of the hardest classes and the lectures do not help you at all had to spend 250 dollars on schoolers for him to get paid and not teach a singular thing. He offers three singular points of extra credit but just be prepared to teach everything to yourself and good luck to everyone in the future.
This professor is not a good fit. You take the practice exams and finally get a good grasp on them and then get to the actual exam and only say 15 of the 40 questions look how the practice exam does. I studied so much and got to the exam and it made me look as if I never even did any of the homework or ever tried to pay attention. I would not take.
The class is challenging, but with dedication and the right study tools like Unstuck ai, it's manageable. Practice exams are key - do them repeatedly to master the material. Attendance is mandatory, but lectures can be skipped if you use the textbook and online resources effectively.
Many rate Patterson harshly due to the course's difficulty not his teaching. While the material is tough, he offers support with study guides, note sheets, and practice exams from the same question pool as the real exam. I barely studied, only taking practice exams a couple times before each exam. Quizzes are open-note on Canvas.
decent amount negativity about Jeff Patterson which isn't entirely incorrect but i will say this he is very generous with grading. there are a few maybe 5 or so categories that make up your grade ( homework, quizzes, tests, etc) and he drops the lowest one in each. also +10 points on the first exam. don't be scared you just need to put some work in
I was hesitant based on all the negative reviews, but he truly cares about his students and wants you to suceed. He provides practice exams, and if you just keep retaking them you will do well. I think he is a good reacher and great person overall, even though the content itself can be challenging
Stopped listening to online lectures because he's just reading a word doc. Would recommend just reading the textbook. His exams are pretty hard, but he literally gives you the question bank before each exam. Just retake it like 10 times and you'll get an A. It does take a little bit of time so don't expect to brainrot and pass with an A.
Don't even waste your time listening to his lectures. If you are an independent learner I suggest reading the textbook, taking notes, and the practice exams. Exams are difficult but the practice exams are very similar. Make sure to take them 10+ times because the question pool it pulls out of is huge.
The reviews truly overstate the work. If you set time aside each week to watch the lectures and take notes along with taking the practice exam, a high A is definitely possible. As an accounting major, his class was very interesting and made me excited for my future classes.
These reviews make it seem much worse than it is. Just watch the lecture videos and spam the practice exams, and you will be fine. He is a good professor you just have to put in the work as with any class.
The class itself is hard but I don't think that's the fault of the professor, it's an online class so there's not really much he can do about that. The chapter notes are always super long though so watch out for that, but again, it's just because the class itself covers so much info
this guy SUCKS!! If you want to learn accounting from THREE YEAR OLD lectures, barley explained material, and SO MUCH reading than this class is for you. Professor Patterson is the worse teacher ive ever had out of all 19 years on this planet. It fills me with rage that he expects students to learn a difficult subject through reading and reviewing.
Be ware when you take this class. It is very hard and the final exam is about the whole semesters work. Please make sure to study every single week to pass I am having to retake it.
