He is probably one of the only teachers who don't require attendance. He will help you if you need help and his grading policy is reasonable, especially for a lower level math class.

He is very knowledgeable about math and won't hesitate to answer even the most simple questions. He never makes anyone feel stupid. I also like his teaching style. He uses a lot of history about math and some other techniques that help solidify the information. He doesn't require attendance, but you are really better off if you do attend.

He is probably the best math teacher I've had yet at PCC. His classes are fun because we do other in class activities, and he makes learning easier by letting us use our notes on tests. I actually feel like I understand math for once. And he's really funny!

He is such a great teacher. He goes out of his way to help out all of his students, and he's just a great person. Probably one of the only reasons why I'm good at math today. Really great at explaining stuff and genuinely cares about how his students absorb information. Take math with him if you get the chance you won't regret it.

likes to go off on tangents a lot, he stops class to help explain things to you and usualy its something the rest of the class had problems with. lets you do test corrections, does not require you to turn in homework but you can use them on tests. if he taught 111 i would take him:-)

I had him in fall 2006 for Math 60. I had tested into the wrong class and because he doesn't require attendance, I was able to fly through the class and get my A.

He didn't do that great of a job in my class. We almost viewed it as a joke. He gave us the option of coming to class which most didn't. He seemed more concerned with telling us his theory's in science then explaining to us what we paid for to learn. I'm not reccomending him.

Jeff is great. All tests you can make corrections of for additional credit. Drops one test at the end of the year. Gives out his cell phone number to students if you have questions. I never learned so much in a math class. Thanks Jeff your the best! Sucks that he doesnt teach 111b.

Jeff makes math fun. He helps you understand math in a way that you can use in your day to day life. I enjoyed his class because he wanted everyone to succeed. If you did not understand the lesson that he was going over he would stay after class to work with you until you understood the new information. Jeff, I wish you were teaching 111B.

He is a great teacher. Coming back to school after 10 years made me really nervous and his was the first class I took, but it turned out to be a great experience. He makes math interesting by incorporating a lot of history. He definitely wants his students to succeed. He makes you responsible for your own experience by making class non-mandatory.

Teacher was wonderful and very helpful. Offers extra credit and final is optional if you can pass all the others. Got a A on the first and B's on the second and did not have to take it. I passed with an A and enjoyed the class even though it was summer. Highly recommend!

Very nice guy, but if you have to go on to further math you may want to take another teacher. If not, definately take him. Very easy class but I feel as if I am not prepared for the next class. Offers test corrections, and extra credit. He made a lot of mistakes on the board which made me feel like I wasn't learning what I should have been.

I thought the class was a joke. He spent more time on theory and spirals instead of math. His take home test was impossible. If you want an easy grade then he's your man, if you want to actually learn something then find another teacher.

This was the first math class I took in college and it was the easiest thing in the world. Granted, I was placed wrong, but he didn't even complained when all I did was the homework he assigned in his class. He offered test corrections which was good because many people failed his 3rd test and the take home test. Other than that, he's okay.

This is the first time I understand Algebra. Jeff is a great teacher & those who call him easy should not be in Math 95. He is helpful to math morons like myself. He answers your email questions quickly and will meet with you to help. He tests you on what is expected for the section, no surprises, except for the takehome which was really hard.

Sad to see the comments, took him for Math 95 in the winter, a great teacher. Breaks down prblms without skipping steps, patient, helpful and encouraging. I didn't take math for 5yrs before taking his class, learned more then I have from any other teacher. He doesn't make assumptions that everyone's a mth wiz, so take class!! You won't regrate it

pettit is really nice,but he doesn't explain math problems well at all, and he makes multiple mistakes on the board--he's more goes into more detail about the history of math than the actual steps of a problem--he made me hate math even more.

He's not a babysitter. Attendance is not required. But being respectful is. He is there to teach. He does it thoroughly and its a lot of fun. Yes, he goes on tangents, but the relate. They made me more intersted. I even read a book he suggested. Great. Loved his classes and had a great time. Doesn't skip anything. Brilliant.

I have had Jeff for 3 classes now. I thoroughly enjoy his teaching style and appreciate the fact that he lets us make corrections on our tests for 50% of credit back. I really do learn a lot from this. Jeff is very helpful if you just ask for it. He wants his students to succeed. Great teacher, I highly recommend!

He is one of the most Lenient teacher. Super laid back and generous. If you don't understand the material he will definitely put full effort in helping you understand it. He's very flexible with assignments and test corrections. Fun in class activities. You just have to be a responsible person to take his class or else all fails.

He had a sense of humor but wasn't a great teacher. Not much help because he's not very clear. He draws pictures on the board and that doesn't help much. Its a math class not an art class. Im not saying he's literally bad. Just not my cup of tea!

Jeff is a good teacher, but he does make mistakes with example problems that students usually do correct. Very laid back teacher. I took his stats class and got an A. Very easy to talk to. He lets you correct your tests. I wish he was teaching Math 244, I would def take that class.

Great teacher! Very patient and laid back. Sometimes makes mistakes, but it shows that he's human. Won't get down on you for making mistakes or asking questions. Lets you correct tests. Good sense of humor. Interesting stories about the history of math. Fun class activities to give you new ways of looking at mathematics.

Excellent teacher! He really cares about his students learning! I failed the class because I bit off more than I could chew( 15 cr.) while dealing w/ family issues. It wasn't Prof. Pettit's fault!I just wish I had had the time to complete the homework.

Jeff was a great teacher. He is able to teach with various methods from lecture, to Q&A, and in class activities. I think is ability to utilize different methods helps solidify the material. He truly wants to see students succeed and will work with you to make it happen. I couldn't have asked for a better teacher.

Jeff was very helpfull, this was a very difficult subject and he made it somewhat managable. Very clear and concise, and willing to explore different avenues of understanding. To his credit, if there was something he didn't know/understand, he would investigate and come to the next class with the answer and explain it to the class. Awesome Prof.!!!

Great teacher! He has a different way of teaching, and I found it fun and interesting. He is very helpful and allows test corrections! As long as you are trying in his class you will get a good grade! Plus, he gives fun history lessons. I highly recommend this teacher!

This is without a doubt the WORST professor I have ever had! The class was an absolute joke. He was boring and unclear. Students would leave class right in the middle of his lectures. He made many mistakes on the board and even on tests. During tests he would introduce concepts we had not even covered yet. Warning: do not take from him!

Pettit rocks! I had him for calc I, II, and III. He is the kind of teacher that makes it seem like you're all just hanging out doing some math like it's no big deal, even though it's some of the most complicated math you can take at PCC. Really cool guy, I highly recommend him.

AWESOME! This is the most helpful math teacher I have ever had. He has you do more homework than needed, but it prepares you very well for the exams. He doesn't leave you with the best notes but makes sure you understand the concepts. He invoves the entire class and includes many forms of teaching.

I cannot believe these negative remarks are about this guy - he is a class A teacher ... a real professor. HORRIBLE TEACHER!!!! He NOT organized at all! COmplains about how horrible our book is at explaining and still uses the book for examples. I didn't learn ANYTHING in his class! Always makes mistakes when doing problems. The class ends up correcting him. Nice Guy, but HORRIBLE TEACHER! AVOID AVOID AVOID! Yes, I'm talking about the same teacher!

He is a great teacher. Homework is not the easiest but thats the point. to work on the problems and he gives you many opportunities in class to ask questions. He is very nice and If you are willing to try at math, you can handle him. if not take an easier math class! =)

Very helpful, came up with rhyms for remembering formulas and functions for derivitives. The homework he collected wasn't excessive and having a full time job taking his class I was able to do the required homework and still learn a ton. He also cares about us as people, were not just numbers and a paycheck.

I had him for math 65. I had taken the class before and failed it because I could never understand math at all, and never had luck with it. I took him and he made it make so much sense to me, ive never done this well in math. He makes class relevant and is very very helpful! My favorite teacher without a doubt.

BEST TEACHER EVER! I'm horrible at math and was dreading this class. He makes everything very easy to understand and he is incredibly helpful. He makes class interesting and fun. He doesn't require attendance, but I found that it was very helpful to go to class. He is a great, great teacher and i HIGHLY recommend him! I understand math now!!

I thought he was great, He provided lots of useful examples. He did make mistakes from time to time, but hey he's only human. I enjoyed my class time with him, he adds an odd sense of humor to everything. I'm not a fan of the lab style course, but that's PCC's requirements. He lets you do exam corrections, and doesn't believe in super hard finals.

GREAT TEACHER! Highly recommend! Not only does he take the time to make sure that EVERYONE understands what is being taught, he also gives fun historical insight on math and why it is the way it is. He's doesn't like square cut math, he's very creative. Very well rounded teacher and is very much in his element, which makes for a fantastic teacher!

FANTASTIC professor! I've had Jeff as a professor from 60, up through 252. He allows for Exam corrections, and is more than willing to adapt problems to whatever learning style you need. For shy people who depend on good notes, be prepared to talk to Jeff outside class. He's always more than happy to help clarify and is easy to contact.

Very awesome teacher in every aspect. Very qualified, has a degree in teaching and is extremely fascinated with math in general and makes the class fun. Very nice guy and really understanding and lenient as well. Would definitely recommend him!

Jeff is a good instructor with a lot of knowledge. He gets off-track easily during topic discussion and doesn't always have computer-demonstrations ready. Being able to do test corrections is a life and grade-saver. Would recommend his to others.

Jeff is a very nice guy.He cares about his students, and want to help them.He makes his tests to hard.They are completely different than the text book.He does let you do test corrections, but then he makes the tests even harder because you can correct them.The take home test is so hard.he gives very little demonstrations on how to do the math!!!

The instructor makes or breaks a class. I had fun and would absolutely take him again. Jeff has a fun sense of humor, he's intelligent, and sets clear expectations as 2 what material U need to learn. U do need to be self motivated, but he made himself available 2 answer ?'s after class, via email and through texts. He also allows exam corrections.

One of the best teachers I've ever had. Extremely nice and intelligent, with a love for the subject and a love for both learning and teaching. "Lecture" is very open, almost a group discussion. He can be absent-minded, and tests CAN be difficult, but between a lenient grading system and test corrections getting a passing grade is easy.

Very good instructor. Does tend to wander. Take home tests make you think outside the box, but are doable. Class is engaging, often leading to (without needing to make it happen) group discussions. His lectures lend themselves to creative thinking rather than rote memorization and regurgitation. Recommend highly.

So the corrections on tests make this class easy to pass. However he is a terrible teacher. He does not actually teach the subject. This is strictly a self taught class. He comes to class very unprepared and students are constantly correcting his many mistakes. Would not recommend him as as teacher.

This was my 2nd class with Jeff. His game seemed a bit off this term, but he was also sick. Happens to everyone. He answered every question I asked, and was available in the tutoring center twice a week. Very Helpful, have him again next term.

Mr. P is a very nice, helpful teacher. He is very clear when explaining things. He realizes that beginning algebra is simply a review for most, so he doesn't bury us in homework. The only way to not get an A in this class is by not doing anything.

This was the easiest math class I've ever taken. He assigns homework for practice only, so there is very little required work. He gives lots of opportunities for extra credit. The two proctored exams were more difficult than the online exams, but of all my classes, this one required the least amount of work.

Jeff was a nice guy and had a fun personality, but his lectures were EXTREMELY confusing. He would question himself I could never tell if he knew what he was doing. He would try to be helpful, but I relied on the textbook to teach me. There was a ton of homework as well, 50-100 problems per week. They would be impossible without the answer book.

Jeff is a great teacher. Is very enthusiastic and caring about his students and how they work the tools of Calculus. Although he gave a TON of options for homework because of the Math Department, we didnt have to work on it all. The tests were correctable and he made the class very engaging, but you have to do your part in understanding the math.

Mr. Pettit is a great person! He is very funny and always made class fun! But he doesn't "teach" he just goes over a powerpoint and expects you to know how to do the work without examples. I was basically teaching myself how to do the work. If you are self sufficient you should take him but if you are more hands on you should not take him.

Very challenging math class, but the teacher was extremely helpful. The homework was manageable and exams had no unexpected problems on it. Mr. Pettit is a nice person who understands Math can be very difficult for some. I have bad test anxiety and he gave me some great advice and support. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Very nice guy and willing to help. Makes too many mistakes on the board unfortunately. Difficult to prepare for exams because there are no practice exams or study guides. He will lead you to believe the exam will be easy but then you'll be hurting. This class requires major work. You can correct your exams for half the points back.

Lectures are well structured. Pettit follows an agenda. In class activity done during most lectures to count as participation. Very cool guy, but CHALLENGING instructor. Exams are not extremely predictable, usually a combination of conceptual and computational questions. Conceptual questions are tough, requires you to think outside the box.

Jeff is a super super nice guy and really seems to care about his students success but his teaching style was AWFUL for me. His lectures didn't seem to have any organization, sometimes I didn't even know what section we were in. His exams were very conceptual, the material was already challenging, so this made the exams extremely difficult.

Jeff was great! math is not my strong suit but as long as you do all of the homework you will be fine. He even gives you a study guide for the midterm and final which look almost identical to the actual tests. Responds to emails quickly and is a fair grader. Jeff is a great teacher. The lectures can lean toward discussions, but I found that to be really interesting. He's great at effortlessly fostering an environment where people participate, and its clear he really cares about his students. Do the homework. He's a kind grader, but math 256 packs a lot of information into a small amount of time.

His lectures started a bit unorganized, I was able to adjust to his teaching style by the end of the term. His lectures are very much discussion driven, and the practice (hw & class activities) help to drive the concepts home. He offers plenty of extra credit and is always available to help! Exams can be taken a little late if more time is needed.

If you get behind, he really does an amazing job working with you on getting caught up. He gives you options to take exams at later dates if you're not ready yet, as well as offering extra credit. He cares very much about everyone's learning experience, constantly checks on the progress of the students, and is always open to suggestions.

Very cool guy. Fun, engaging, caring and gives plenty of extra credit. He ultimately wants you to pass the class so he'll always be there to help if you need it. However, his lecture is very non-linear and it can be hard to learn. Class was about average difficulty overall.

Doesn't teach at all. Some students come knowing some of the stuff so he kinda just goes on discussion-based lectures with them. Sometimes he doesn't even know what he is teaching. Makes huge mistakes on the board and doesn't care if half of the class is paying attention and half of the class isn't. Also you are graded on very few things

I would definitely take one of Jeff's classes again! His teaching style differs from the traditional type of sit and listen lectures, they are very discussion based which helps you understand concepts more. He genuinly wants his student to succeed and helps to work around your schedule. Overall average difficulty. Do the HW!!! Don't PROCRASTINATE!!

Discussion lectures are hard to follow, but he's very forgiving. Test corrections (if you do the hw!), lots of EC and a generous grader. Even if you get the problem entirely wrong he'll give you half credit. He just values you caring to learn and it shows in his personality, tutoring and grading. Only knock is the lectures.

Jeff does not lecture at all. He does discussions with the class, which is hard to learn about the actual sections and it is boring! Half of the class is not even paying attention He is very nice guy and wants to help you improve. Does give extra credit. I just wish his lectures had more detail and thought into it for each section being covered.

Jeffery was one of the nicest teachers I ever had. I had him in 2016 and he allowed you to correct your test for half points. So even if you got a 50, you could get a 75. Sure, his tests are hard, but his grading is extremely fair. He also lectures well and emphasizes use of technology. I'd take him any day. Best math teacher I ever had.

If you are the type of student who is able to learn by reading the book on your own time then he is the professor for you. Hes a very nice man but he doesnt teach in class and you are expected to have taught yourself the section at home. He goes through problems fast but is open to helping students. Whether you want his help is up to you.

If you are the type of student who learns outside of class, you can't go wrong with Jeff. He is one of the nicest instructors I've had, and he cares about his students. He will give you feedback, and let you do test corrections. He wants all of his students to succeed, so he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. Solid choice

Jeff was one of the most engaged teachers I have ever had. He always gave extra credit and was very lenient with time frames. Take home tests are very conceptual so you are forced to fully understand what you are doing. I would recommend him to anyone for all levels of math.

He's a great teacher and a kind person. Though he does go off topic sometimes, his lectures are clear and takes the time to work out problems and answer questions. Didn't use the textbook though, all the homework was online. He's really available and gives lots of study tips. All in all he's passionate about math and wants to see you succede.

I took the class online. Pettit is awesome. He replies to every email fairly quick, and posts replies to every discussion post. The homework isn't all that bad. Just keep up with it, so you don't get overwhelmed. The exams were proctored and has to be taken on campus. There is a quiz every other week. He gives extra credit too. Great class.

Horrible math class, thanks to the way he teaches. He's probably better for the lower math classes, but definitely not the farther ends of calculus. Disorganized, scattered lectures. Ended up teaching myself from the book and other people's lecture videos (Leonard's the best!). Don't take Pettit. Only positive was that he was a very fair grader.

Mr. Pettit is a nice and funny person, however, I had to completely teach myself at home. He gets very distracted during lectures and uses the easiest examples possible from the homework. When I would get home I would be so confused because all the homework was harder then what he taught us. Exams had no instructions and were confusing.

If you read the book and do the homework, put in a little effort for the project, and do test corrections then you'll pass. Not the best lecturer, but does sprout out interesting ideas connecting diff eq with things outside the traditional physics word problems of Calculus and into the social sciences, this part was great.

Guided notes were great. Extra lecture material was interesting and related the class to real life. Groups got to choose our own Project topic and I learned a lot from it and from the presentations from other groups. I got a lot out of the class, but definitely needed to do the homework for practice.

The professor is kind, a little quirky, and cares deeply about his work and his students. A good, patient professor that seems criminally underrated. There are opportunities for extra credit and he understands if you talk to him. I would absolutely love to have this professor again.

Jeff is a pretty decent prof. The reason that a lot people struggle in his class is because he goes through sections pretty quickly (2-3/day) and expects you to keep up. As a result, there is also quite a bit of homework but it isn't too difficult, it just takes a while.

Once my baby and I had very bad colds. Due to lack of sleep, and a very cranky baby, and feeling like crap this was the class that I fell behind with homework. I told Mr Petit about it, and he understood and said turn it in next week with the rest. He was always very attentive, understanding, and very knowledgeable.

He is one of the best professors I've had for math. He is very understanding that life can happen at any time. He rarely uses the textbook in class, but has no problem in going over homework problems, especially when you don't understand the problem and answer. He definitely cares for his students, and loves it when you ask him questions.

His class requires serious work mainly because you lose points if you dont attend class yet the lectures arent that helpful. He is a great guy and is super accessible outside of class, but his lack of organization and susceptibility to making mistakes makes the class more difficult than need be. My first B ever happened due to his class.

Jeff is awesome and extremely flexible. He let me turn in and/or rework many assignments past their deadlines or after the term ended. It's nice to have a teacher who's not so uptight about deadlines for a change. Don't fall behind though beause the test are not take home, they are live and online.

Took this class remotely during the pandemic, easy to follow but you must keep up as the information comes out or it can get overwhelming. Teacher accepts late work for full credit and offers extra credit. He is also very clear about what will be on quizzes and tests. He responds quickly to emails as well. Great teacher, hard subject.

Jeff was a fantastic instructor. He was super flexible and willing to accommodate things for people based on their needs. This was a bit frustrating for people that turned things by due dates, we had to wait longer for grades. But at least you always felt like if something did happen to you and you needed extra support, we would be there to help.

Jeff is hands down the caring, best math teacher I've had. He is so understanding and flexible with everyone's schedule. He gives one on one help for homework at the beginning of every class and shows you step by step so you can get a clearer understanding. I liked him a lot and he really cares about his students. He's very accessible and he understands that sometimes life happens and is willing to work with you if you communicate with him. I got an A- for the first time ever in math. Normally I struggle with math but Jeffs way of explaining things helped. I definitely recommend him. Thanks Jeff!

This professor is kind and helpful. Also accepts late work until the end of term. Groupwork is part of class and final project. Most of the class dropped/did not attend, which made that part difficult. Teaching style is pretty hands off.

In a slew of terrible teachers, Mr. Pettit is by far one of the best math teachers at PCC. His grading criteria is clear and his homework/tests is based off of the lectures (I know, such a novel concept.) He is willing to work with students to make sure they understand the material.
