Well, tough class but lots of extra credit. And, well.... how do i say it.....he's short.
You can get whatever grade you want, depending on how much work you choose to do. Tests aren't bad, but lots and lots of extra credit!
If you want to do the work, you can get an A, even if you fail EVERY test. I did. LOADS of extra credit stuff for those willing to put in the time. (and it's once a week, what can go wrong?)
OK class if you like doing mindless busy work. Whiny New York accent will drill into your brain though. Teachings are very biased, he made all the foreign students very angry with his stereotyping of their countries.
If you like communist or liberals then this is the class for you. He is very dorkey and makes you do more busy work than a 1st grade teacher. What a waste of time this class was.
I had him for regional geography, and it was definitely one of the easiest A's that I earned in four years. The class was entertaining and interesting, but he gets a little annoying. And it is seriously an absolute ton of busy work.
He can get more than a little annoying, but he'll do anything to help you learn.
His voice reminded me of Jerry Lewis. I kept waiting for him to shout out "LADY!!" in the middle of a sentence. I do not like how he tries to use his position as a teacher to influence the thoughts of others on his political views.
tedious and lots of busy work. i hate that kind of crap.
Great guy--fun and personable. His tests are a little rough, but lots of chances to do well. I think he wants you to learn--and he's got a ton of energy. Great stories too!
I though that the class was pretty hard, but I did not study enough. If I would have studied HARD I would have made a lot better of a grade. So basically study really hard and you will get an A.
Lots of work. Be prepared to fail several tests and still get an A.
Too much information on all his tests. He thinks no other class exists in this world. He comes very un-recommended.
Easiest A ever. Yes, Dr. Jeff has lots of busy work. But the tests weren't bad if you looked over the material the night before, and the amount of extra credit he offered to compensate was unreal. Highly recommended. Loved his stories too.
Loud, energized teacher with so many stories. Class has lots of busy paperwork, but a ton of extra credit that will get you an A. I'd take it as a freshman because I wouldn't want all that busywork during my upper level degree classes.
One of THE best classes I have ever taken! He's so funny and has interesting stories. Lots of information and tricky tests, but offers TONS of extra credit. The only way you can fail this course is if you don't show up. TAKE HIS CLASS!!
I loved this class. He makes it interesting even when he pulls out the old school slides of pictures from his travels. Do the extra credit and go to class and you'll have an A.
Excellent class to take as a freshman, since there's a bit of busy work, but it's so incredibly easy. Come to class because you'll grasp the concepts better AND he has some fun stories. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT and you'll be A-okay :).
Very easy prof. DO the extra credit. Side note: He is the CRAZIEST prof I have ever met.
Same basic format of Regional Geog, except not as many tests. The material thefore is intense for the tests. 1 world map quiz, and even though a writing emphasis it mostly takes place on the tests and in 1 travel log/recollection.
Hardest class ever. Do not take it unless you have tons of time to study. He is a little interesting but the class is really bad.
this class is awesome!!! dr jeff will show you slides of pictures from africa, china, etc. he gives you LOTS of extra credit - yes you have to dedicate a significant amount of time doing the extra credit and preparing for the quizzes but its very rewarding, i promise you!

Interesting & kept me attentive, which says a lot considering I took it on Thurs nites. Extra credit is time consuming, but definitely helps you on exams.10 exams plus an insane amount of xtra credit. Felt more like a high school course than college.Go in to class with an open mind and as if you're just listening to a friend talk about their travels
Tests are impossible, but do the extra credit and you will for sure end up with a B. Funny little guy tho, he's so passionate about what he teaches.
The extra credit does take time, but it doesn't consume a lot of brain cells, and it's so worth it. His lectures are fascinating! Great teacher. I learned so much. Take him!...and then send him a postcard when you travel :)
tests are insanely hard and pretty much all memorization. sounds easy, but i promise that there is so much information it's impossible to memorize it all. if you take his class DO THE EXTRA CREDIT! it's the only way to make a A or B.
Well I have mixed emotions about Roet and his class. It was very interesting and I feel like I learned alot but I am pissed off at myself and roet as well. He grades on a 1000 point scale and I got 693 points. Thank god I was taking the class pass no credit or it would of been a D on my transcript. All that work for nothing though.
IF I KNEW THIS CLASS WAS GOING TO BE SO HARD I WOULD NOT HAVE TAKEN IT! Every class is a test (10 of them)and he only gives you 20 min. The tests are SOOO F###ing hard, I get like 50's on them. You have to do the extra credit to get a B. He just stands in class and lectures for 2.5 hours strait- kill me! Memorization is key for this class.
Had for world geography. Tests are hell. Have to do E.C. to pass. Very interesting class though, enjoyed lectures.
I took Roet's World Geography class. This is one of my favorite classes. It is a better class for those who like geography and lame jokes that you just have to laugh at. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. That's how you get an A in the class. He is a lot of fun and I plan to take more of his classes in the future.
awesome professor
the lectures are somewhat interesting- he really knows his stuff. but the tests are incredibly hard. the only time you use the atlas or txtbook is for the tests. if you don't do extra credit you will fail which must say something about the tests, if the whole basis of passing is due to extra credit.
His class was soooo difficult but I learned a lot! An A is possible, it just takes a lot of work. Do the extra credit.
ridiculously hard. tests are impossible to pass. i study for hours for them and do all the extra credit and i still have yet to make higher than a 52 on a single test.
Hard tests, he has the best intentions and is extremely passionate. But be ready for the class to eat your life. Do the extra credit because it's hard to pass the tests without it. Easy C+ but you have to try realllly hard to make an A
the exams are NOT incredibly hard...just STUDY YOUR PANTS OFF BEFORE THE EXAMS & YOU'RE GOLD!! 10 25MC exams, non-cumulative. Over 200 points x-credit offered so DO IT!! This class is NOT for slackers. He loves his job and makes everything interesting if you pay attention. he also notices if you leave so stay for the love of extra credit!
tests SUCK!!! but aren't bad if you can memorize 54 countries, their capitals, rivers, lakes, seas, oceans, and random cities + about 10 pgs of notes. fun class. just do the extra credit and pray you do well.
Great teacher and very passionate. Go to class and do the extra credit and you should be fine. Its basically memorization. Test can be tricky with questions so pay attention to detail.
SOOOOOOOOO BORING! Attendance is mandatory and he takes off for not showing up, class was a waist of time! I learned nothing and it was so boring i played on my laptop the entire time. His tests are rediculously hard, there is so much writing involed in that class its rediculous!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do all of the extra credit. If you are struggling, see him outside of class and he can help you study differently. Memorize the maps. The tests are really hard and they are timed so you only get 20 minutes.
Cool ass dude. Very helpful and makes class fun. An excellent lecturer and his powerpoints and slides are awesome. The class isn't extremely easy, but if you put forth a good effort you will be rewarded. He really knows his stuff.
Roet is awesome, so passionate and interesting! took the night class, he gives attendance bonuses DO THE EXTRA CREDIT it's tedious and your hand will get arthritis =D BUT so worth it cause it helps you study, you can make a 50 and still pass. If you start strong with the EC, it's easier to cut back on it later rather than having to work to catch up
If you do the extra credit you will make an A! Come to class because he gives material that are on the tests and extra credi bonuses. You learn more than you think and it is very interesting. I would def. recommend to everyone
human geography: Im in the class right now and i feel like he really cares about the students understanding the material. He wants you to do well in the class so you MUST do the extra credit! you might have to adapt your study skills for this class but i feel like an A or B is possible.
There are 10 tests and be prepared for 12 hours of "extra credit" for each test, or you will fail. The average on a test is failing so it's extra credit or fail. Must attend every class.
US is my 4th class with Dr. Roet, and I'm taking another in fall. The important thing to know is that he knows his stuff, and he expects you too as well. His classes are among the most difficult I have taken but are also worth it. If you want an easy A, he won't give it to you. If you're willing to work, then you won't regret taking his classes.
Grades: Point System is 100 for the Map Qz and 300 for each of 3 exams. You miss 3 classes 50 pts off, 4 100 pts off. He also takes random points off on the tests. If you study "hard", the highest you make is 230/300, a B-. Unless you are a geography minor/major, not worth it.
Great Prof. Very interested in the class. Do the extra credit that is about two hours of hw a week, and do the pre test. this bumped me up a full letter grade. information is all east concepts.-Human Geography
Dr. Roet is very passionate about geography, and that's evident because he's been all over the world and become and expert in it. His class CAN be easy if you put in some effort. The extra credit is important because it gives your grade a huge boost AND prepares you for his tests. Do it and expect a great grade in the class.
Love him!!!!!
Really nice professor and really passionate about geography! I learned a LOT from his class. Extra Credit is pretty much mandatory as it helps you study for test and bumps up your grade heavily.
This was the most boring class I have ever taken! He makes you pay for your notes, but deletes like 5 things from them as "incentive" to attend class. He reads directly off Powerpoint, which is verbatum to your notes. The only way to pass is to set aside at least 5 hours for extra credit, per week. It was not worth my time AT ALL.
Knows what he is talking about most of the time, except cultural aspects sometimes. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT, it will turn your failing grade on the test into an A, no lie. One thing i will say is, dont take this class once a week, sign up for a TR or MW cause the night class version is annoyingly too long.
Dr. Roet's a great professor because he's genuinely passionate about his subject and he truly cares about how his students perform in the class. He'll schedule a meeting with you mid-semester and if you're struggling in the class, he'll find ways to help you out. Finally, if you just attend class an you have a borderline grade, he'll push you up.
Took his world geography class and loved it. His class is REALLY interesting because he has been everywhere and done everyting that he talks about. He really loves what he does and he shares that with you. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT! Tests are hard, but he gives at least 20 pts of extra credit every week. Do it, you'll be thankful :)
Great Class and easy A. Dr. Roet is really nice and will work with you around different situations. Just do the easy extra credit and you'll get at least a B
Take this guy, he is really quirky and makes the material interesting. He tells you what will be on the tests. If you study for the tests you should make an A or B
This class has probably been one of the most enjoyable classes I've ever taken. His lectures are always interesting and every time he is excited about what he has to teach, and he is a really interesting person himself. The tests are hard, so you ABSOLUTELY MUST DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. It is a lot of extra time and work, but worth it for the grade.
Great teacher. He is one of the reasons why I changed my major to geography. I have taken three classes with him. He loves geography, and you see it while he teaches. Would recommend him. Make sure you do the extra credit!!!
He is a very nice teacher but the tests are extremely difficult. Make sure that you do ALL of the extra credit!!!!
Repetition does not induce stimulation.
Roet was such a fantastic professor. I loved taking this class! My eyes were opened up to so many new places I want to go to! His tests are tricky, but if you do the extra credit, you'll be fine! Be prepared to put in a lot of time, but it's so worth it. Also, talk to him. He's such a friendly, helpful guy. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
Dude DON'T TAKE CLASS WITH HIM! You will become a copy machine with your own hand-writing! This class does not make any sense.
Just don't do it. Simple as that. I'm a geography minor and this class was horrid. Huge grade penalties for not attending boring and mostly pointless lectures. Hard essay tests. Massive amount of work.
Roet is my favorite professor I've ever had at TCU. He's passionate, helpful, and so fascinating!! This class is definitely not easy, but if you attend class and do the extra credit (and for the love of God, make sure you do) you can absolutely obtain an A!! World Geography with Roet is the reason I changed my major to geography. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
I failed every single test and still passed because I did EVERY bit of extra credit for all class notes and tests. I was worried about failing, so I went to him and because I talked to him and he noticed I was working really hard, he gave me a C- even though I deserved an F. He notices if you're working really hard, so work hard!
He may come off as a really cool professor, but the lectures wear off really fast. Super boring. He has test weekly applied to each region, you need to memorize ridiculous amount of rivers, mountains, cities, and so you cram up and after completing the test, you'll forget everything.Crazy amount of handwriting. Just DO NOT TAKE! I hate this class.
Dr. Jeff is a great teacher and an awesome person. You can definitely tell that he loves what he does and that makes class so much better. Tests can be pretty hard. I usually get Cs, but there is so much extra credit that I have an A. If you do the work, it'll pay off. Definitely would recommend this class to everyone!
BEST CLASS EVER!!!!!!!!!! BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!!!!!!!!! Dr. Jeff is the best!! he loves what he does and you will learn so much in this class! DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!! EASY A!!
He is a wonderful human being. His Geography class is VERY hard though. I had to work for my B+ (just missed the A). 10 tests in all, so a lot of memorizing maps, very specific detailed lectures, and a TON of extra credit that you HAVE to do just to pass cause the tests are just that hard. This course took so much extra out of class time.
You have two choices of how to manage your time: you can do all the extra credit and study just a little for the test or you can study well for the tests. Know your limits and be aware of ridiculous time commitments-cut out extra credit when necessary. Learn how he tests and use that knowledge when studying. Tough A for most people. Good luck!
Dr. Jeff is a great professor! His lectures are always interesting and engaging. He gives plenty of extra credit opportunities for you to decide what your grade is. If you put effort into his class, then you'll do very well.
I took him for human geography and enjoyed the semester. It's easy to listen to him becuase he's obviously so passionate about the class. There is no outside reading, but you do have to study for tests. If you memorize the notes he points out in the study guide you'll make an A. Don't summarize though, memorize and give it back to him in his words
The only grades are two extremely difficult short answer essay tests, and a project. If at all possible do not take this class. I've taken over 70 hours at 2 universities and this was the worst class I've ever taken. You have to purchase the notes that he created.
Roet is awesome! Very interesting, engaging, & cares about his students succeeding. WARNING: this the hardest class he teaches, the hardest class in the Geog. department, & one of the hardest honors classes you can take. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. To pass, you need to study 3 hours a day minimum. If you can handle that, the class itself is fascinating!!!
I took his world regional geography class and I regret taking it a lot! All class long he lectures (which means read straight from powerpoint) and every night your homework is to copy by hand the ppt notes onto loose leaf- sounds easy but it is a huge waste of time as you have 15-20 typed sheets to rewrite. The tests are impossible only and timed.
This is the second class of Roet's I have taken, he is great! You have to study for his tests but he gives out a bunch of extra credit. I studied a lot for the tests and got over 100% with the extra credit. He gives you a list of everything that could be on the test. 1 term paper (about 10 pages) on a topic you choose and he helps you all the way.
This was a fascinating class BUT took up way to much of my time with all the extra credit. The test are nearly impossible if you don't do the extra credit. If you're looking for a challenging class then take it. Roet knows his information from head to toe but he make his lectures way to long.
Roet was easily my favorite professor at TCU. If you like geography you must take one of his classes. He loves what he does and is a wonderful teacher, full of information and first-hand experiences. He offers a ton of extra credit, although it can be a lot of work, and writing in particular, it's definitely worth doing. I love Professor Roet!!
If you take this class, for the love of whatever, do the extra credit. No matter the excuse, the extra credit has all of the answers.
This class itself is not difficult at all. However, although the work is all extra credit, it's required. If you don't do any of it, you won't be prepared for the tests (which are every week btw). All of the work needed to do well on the test will take you all of 2 days worth. If you have anything important to do in other classes, forget about it.
The tests are impossible. The extra credit does not make up for it even though it is a lot. It takes up way to much time... Take a different class plz avoid this at all costs. I would have all A's if not for this class. He's a nice guy but his class, lectures, tests, etc. suck
Do not take this class if you are looking for a simple course credit. His tests are extremely difficult to study for, especially because his reviews are 28 pages long written out. Great professor but terrible tests.
He's a good teacher, long lectures but you just sit there because he gives you the notes. 2 exams but a lot of memorization, you need to memorize 90+ terms and like 10 essays. Make sure you do the study guide - if you do that you're like guaranteed a B.
Expect work. You basically get extra credit for studying. Personal recommendation: Do not rewrite class notes and instead use that time to prepare and study maps, key terms, and essays. Besides the work, perhaps the best teacher I've ever had. Learned so much and now even consider majoring in geography. I've left many classes in awe of the world.
This was my first class with Dr. Jeff and by far my favorite, I've gone on to take 5 more of his classes. He loves what he teaches which makes learning the material very easy.
I've never met someone more passionate about Geography. Roet is one of the happiest, quirkiest people. His class was so much fun to attend. He was meant to teach Geography. You do have to be diligent in his lectures and I would say the extra credit is almost mandatory for an A in the class. Tough but still, this was a rewarding course.
Awesome class. You need to work for your grade but you will be better off because of it. This is not a blow off class. Seriously do the study guide and start way early!!
I learned more than I ever thought possible. Extra credit is very necessary for the A, but it will also help you learn so it is worth it. He is the most passionate guy and so sweet. I really enjoyed his class, but it was SO MUCH WORK. I took his Honors section and it was pretty much the same as the non-honors just an added discussion lab.
A v. good lecturer, knows his stuff, ENERGY. accommodating. Tests are hard but the very time consuming EC makes up for it. You can get an A if you put in lots of time & effort. Good for honors kids. Easy to pass/fail. You can show up only for tests but he'll be less friendly/ flexible with a borderline grade. Clear grading criteria!
Class is extremely lecture heavy ( 3 hr long) with 1 10 minute break. The only grades taken are tests. Do not take this class. Unless you work 10+ hours a week on it, you will not be able to complete the extra credit and study for the exams. Very nice professor, but expects a lot. I wouldn't recommend this class for anyone who wont put in the work.
Dr. Roet is one of the best professors I've ever had, but he is also one of the hardest. He gives one test every week (unless otherwise notified) and has clear expectations for the test. He provides almost 200 points of extra credit, but the extra credit takes several hours of time every week. Be prepared to work. But his class was my favorite!!
There were 10 tests for the class. Each test had 10 questions but you had to study 20+ pages. There is extra credit but it is extremely time consuming. Tried to ask for help and he told me to pass/no credit the class. For the lecture he reads off the powerpoint and goes until the last second of class. I do not suggest this class.
Extra credit it necessary, hard tests, great professor
Dr. Jeff is a delightful man. He is very knowledgeable and aware of current world events. It's fun and insightful to talk to him, but his lectures can be very boring since he mostly reads from it. MUST DO the extra credits if you want an A. I took the honor section so the tests are harder. Always read through your notes again and again.
Dr Jeff is one of the nicest professors I've had so far, BUT be aware, the tests are extremely difficult. The text content is 15 questions from 30+ pages of material, and the "extra credit" (copying the notes in your handwriting- busywork) is a MUST if you want to succeed. Between that and the weekly tests, this class is a huge time commitment
EXTRA CREDIT IS MANDATORY for a good grade. Funny and inspirational teacher and lectures are interesting. Tests are hard so don't be fooled by Dr. Jeff's nice demeanor. Take him before he retires you wont regret!
This is my third class I've taken with Dr. Jeff, and Western Europe is his favorite class to teach. It has a term paper, but you can also go to Ireland and make a scrapbook instead. I love Dr. Jeff, but his classes are difficult, and his tests are INCREDIBLY difficult. If you want a caring, passionate professor, take Dr. Jeff's class.
Professor Roet is one of my favorite professors I have ever had. He is so passionate about teaching students geography and loves telling stories. BUT the class is very time consuming and difficult. Exams every week, and you MUST do the extra credit to get an A or B. There's between 15-30 EC points per test, but the tests are HARD without it.
Dr. Roet may seem kind, but in reality he is not. Hum Geo had 2 very difficult tests - essay format, short quiz, and a stupid project. Lectures are boring, he just reads off the slides. Dr. Roet likes to bring up feminist rhetoric. I didn't get a positive feeling from him overall. For tests, study what you already know because he will grade it hard
The "homework" is a lot but he counts it as extra credit which helps tremendously on all the tests. The textbook is only used once per unit to do key terms so try to share it with a friend and split the cost.
He provides you with a book of his notes at the beginning of the semester. This makes you be able to pay attention and absorb a lot of material in class. He offers extra credit of handwritten notes for each test. Time consuming but worth it. I enjoyed listening to lecture and I applied myself to get A's on the tests. Don't take night class!!!!
Hardest class I have taken at TCU. Gives a lot of extra credit opportunities but that is the only way I passed the class. Test every class period over lecture, readings, and maps. It is not just map questions he asked specific questions from the readings and lectures that are very random.
Lots of extra busy work, literally makes you recopy your notes and pages from the text book for a couple extra credit points.
Dr. Roet is very knowledgeable and his lectures are very interesting. That said, his tests are ridiculous. FOCUS ON LEARNING THE MAPS. Maps are about 40% of the tests so just having those points will put you at good odds. He gives a ton of xtra credit which is the only way to get an A, but takes many hours each week. Well worth the time to do.
I don't get all these positive reviews- we CLEARLY didn't have the same professor. He reads directly from the slides the whole class, makes you buy notes instead of taking them, and always goes off on the longest, time wasting tangents. Even worse so, this guy is SO disrespectful! The only thing bigger than his tests is his ego. Avoid at all costs!
Overall, amazing professor in the sense of character. He is very sweet and cares about his students however, the tests are impossible. they are 25 minutes for 20 questions and if you don't know the material at the back of your hand, you are screwed.
I loved this class!!! Dr. Jeff is such a great professor and makes learning so entertaining. It is a lot of work because a lot of the test questions come from the extra credit, but the tests are easy to do well on if you put in the work. You absolutely have to do the extra credit to do well though. Take this class!!
Dr. Jeff is a great professor! He is very lecture heavy and it sometimes feel very long. Also, do the extra credit. It's a lot of work , but if you do it the tests are easy.
Roet is an amazing professor, but his class is difficult. It is very test heavy and takes a lot of dedication and studying. He is very passionate about what he teaches and makes the class interesting. He genuinely wants the best for his students. LOTS of extra credit that help tremendously. If you put effort in, this class will teach you a lot.
Dr. Jeff is a great professor.
