He is the HJIC!!!!!
Jeff: Is a very percise, young man who really loves his job. He is intelligent and has an open door policy, which I appreciated when taking courses for my Web certification in 1999. I think that the students all benefited from his easy teaching style.
Jeff has become a professor that cares more about his business than his class. He rarely answers emails and is impossible to actually meet with. He will actually stop class just to conduct business by answering his cell phone. Has very mixed priorities.
Great instructor, very clear, very detailed, appropriate assignments that were challenging but not impossible, fair grader, interesting lecturer, really knows his stuff
he's hot
lousy teacher
Great knowledge of the industry. Easy to talk to, and cares for his students.
haha, he is the easiest Freshman forum/Faculty advisor i have ever met. He's very funny and loves sports. Awesome guy.
Miss the old Ask Eric days...this real job stuff sucks!
great teacher, fuuny guy, keeps the classes interesting, reasonable to talk to, make your self seen in a good way and he will help you out, but don't disrespect him.
I had Jeff years ago for web development. He was a very good professor, and class was always interesting.
Beneath the I-don't-give-about-you facade, he's actually extremely helpful (helped me with viruses or whatever extraneous things I asked him about). Very clear, knows his****. IST 195=amazingly useful class. Funny, but very busy so if you want an appointment with him plan a week ahead.
Rubin is the man, he knows exactly what he's talking about and his lectures are very organized. He also cracks a funny joke every once in a while too, which is always good. Easy to stay interested in the lectures.
Best class ever. Its really easy to do well in his class. He's really funny and makes a lot of jokes. Definitely try to get a class with him
He is awesome. Definitely recommend taking 195 with him. Very knowledgeable and makes class fun.
This is a great teacher. He is a great person to talk to and is a very good contact to have. And he do not lecture from the book so his lectures are actually interesting and he create them himself unlike most professors.
Best Professor!Everyone should take IST 195, it's not hard.
Awesome guy. I don't even like computers, but this is a pretty useful class and an easy A. He's really helpful, and so are the TAs.
do not need computer experience for this class. hws are done online and you can use your book for them. does random attendance so make sure you go. labs are also easy and you dont even need to go to them. the only hard part is the final which is the only time you use your book. other than that it is not hard to achieve an A
This guy made me love IT. Hes really funny and such a nice guy. Class is pretty easy as long as you do everything you'll get an A.
Awesome professor. Easily would take it again and would take his class every semester if i could. Makes the students interested in the class and jokes a lot to make the students laugh. Uses real life examples by involving his personal company. i would do more than highly recommend to take this class, he is just a really nice cool guy to know.
He spells everything out for you.
really funny!
Professor Rubin does a great job of lecturing on various topics about computers and then showing examples from his business or elsewhere to demonstrate. He makes computers and information sciences interesting for everyone. Highly recommended.
He is awesome. Giant red sox fan. Humorous and I love going to his class. The final is completely from the textbook and there's a weekly quiz from the chapters of the textbook. Super cool and the TAs are super nice and helpful too.
He's a great professor! He is always looking to help his students with resources to spark interest! He puts a modern spin on boring tech history! Even though his quizzes get harder, if you pay attention, your golden!
Funny guy, Read book for weekly assessments and for final exam and go to lectures. Get into Twitter, even if you dont want to its fun
Rubin's class was a favorite of the semester - it will greatly be missed. I will take any class if he teaches it! Great teacher, motivates and gets students interested in the topics. HE IS GREAT TAKE HIS CLASS!
Prof. Rubin is a great professor, IST195 one of my favorite classes that I've taken. He's good at explaining various concepts, while keeping the class interested with well timed humor. Weekly quizzes, two midterms and a final make your grade. I would attend class because it could get you EC, plus it was enjoyable to go to lecture.
One of the best professors at Syracuse University. Explains things in great depth and really take the time out to answer student's questions. Finals are easy, just make sure you do the mock test as many times as you can. I had a great experience and really enjoy my time in IST 195 under Jeff Rubin.
2 midterm exams, 1 Final, 3 projects, weekly labs... lots of work, but easy A if you do everything! Professor Rubin is a great guy. He cares a lot about his students and is always willing to help out. Take the class... you'll learn a ton!
Professor Rubin is a really great teacher! There is a weekly quiz online that is literally word for word from the book, same with the Tests which are all multiple choice. The projects are REALLY easy, and he's always interested in helping. A really easy A if you put somewhat of an effort in. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Fantastic professor! Professor Rubin makes the class fun, and intresting, yet alot of material is covered during class. He is intelligent in this area of study, and genuiely cares for the students, and their success. This is a required course for Information Studies major! Just study, pay attention in class, complete ALL neccessary assignments!
This is a great class as well as a great teacher. He makes class very entertaining and you can sit through it and not wanna fall asleep. He knows his stuff, very straight forward grading, just beware that the final is on the textbook and not the in class material.
A terrific professor. Nice, approachable, cares about his students and wants them to do well. Go to class!! He will give bonus questions if you attend!!
Took this class last semester, a requirement for all iSchool majors. Jeff's a great guy who cares deeply about his subject and his students. He's got a great sense of humor and you'll look forward to going to his classes. Exams are pretty easy and labs can be done from home. Excellent way to get introduced to the field.
Professor Rubin is a great teacher. IST 195 is a required class for iSchoolers, but it's easy and worthwhile. You get to learn about all the possiblities afforded to you by a career in IT, and it's a great intro class for the rest of your iSchool career.
Professor Rubin is truly the man. His lectures are hilarious, and he's extremely clear cut regarding his expectations and grading criteria. There's a good amount of reading and work involved, but it's all fairly simple and worthwhile.
The best professor ever.
Rubin is the man. Hilarious and incredibly talented in his field. Book is needed for final exam, but all other tests are are simple (25 questions) and content comes from lectures. Show up to class, and you will do great. Everything is very straightforward.
Jeff is super funny and makes the lectures extremely interesting. Show up, listen and do the work and you'll do well.
Amazing
Amazingfunny
Rubin is a great professor. He is very clear and lets you know exactly what is on the test. His lectures are easy to follow, funny and helpful. If you can take his class, take his class.
Loved the class. Jeff is funny and keeps the class interesting.
Fantastic professor. Jeff is incredibly insightful and will go above and beyond for his students. His lectures are fun and interesting. Labs are flexible so you can go anytime you want. Two midterms and one final, attendance is random, three easy and fun projects, short weekly quizzes that are open book. TAs are also helpful and very attractive.
I love Jeff Rubin. He is one of the best professors that the iSchool has to offer. He's a jokester, and he is very well respected by students. His office is open to chat if you have any problems, academic or not. Tests are easy if you study, Final isn't too easy, but he curves them most of the time.
Great professor. Funny guy, really great, interesting, and easy class, would highly recommend for anyone interested in tech.
Honestly will help you in anyway you need. Also super understanding of emergencys and will help you to his best ability. Great teacher, great human being.
Jeff is an awesome professor. Super approachable and understanding and makes lectures extremely interesting and engaging.
Perfect teacher for an intro tech class like 195 since he has so much experience in the field itself. Cool guy and always keeps the lectures engaging. Labs can be tough but tests are pretty easy if you study a bit. Not too much homework.
Amazing!
Rubin is a great prof. It's an easy A class. Beware you never use the book, however final is 50% from the book. 4-5 hours of study for you final and you're good. 5 min quiz online weekly, all on quizlet. Super easy labs weekly, 3 super easy projects. Minimal work needed. Take it, you'll learn some interesting stuff. Put some effort you'll get an A
Rubin seems like a nice guy. I just didn't enjoy this class because it's supposed to be an intro level class, yet it's ridiculously demanding. He also has 0 sympathy for students which is why I didn't like him. This is his side job, keep that in mind. Class seems easy at first, then just slaps you across the face.
I love the class. The class material is very basic and the syllabus is clear about everything. The project is interesting. I am IM&T major and this introductory class really makes me want to learn more about information technology. The professor himself is kind and has a sense of humor. He gives me huge help
He changed ist195 to fully online this year. Everything's the same but the test is so difficult. His lecture has little connection to his exams. It's like he taught you algebra in class but let you do calculus in exam. I did poorly on exams 30+/50 and got a B. Avoid him if you can.
nice guy
He's super chill in class like his lectures were so fun to listen to. He makes it really interesting. You have 3 exams in total, a lab every week and a quiz every week which were both super easy. Both him and the TA's are very helpful. You do have to study for the tests and understand the concepts but its a really fun class.
Professor Rubin was about as good as you could get for an online class. He always brought interesting stories and was funny at times. It was also pretty easy.
Professor Rubin was easy to learn from, funny, and an inspirational professor altogether. I strongly recommend him to anyone who wants to take this class. Some tips for the class: make sure to take notes during lectures (that's where most of his questions come from) and just make sure to keep up with assignments and you should do great!
The only major flaw with Jeff is his inability to keep any date for anything the same. His intro class is almost exclusively graded based on tests and projects, which isn't bad, but he put the absolute most obscure questions on tests, and changes due dates for every project, usually with only a brief reminder before classes so you'll prob miss it.
Professor Rubin is a great professor and made the material of the intro iSchool class interesting. He has great anecdotes and has a lot of experience in the field which made the info a lot easier to grasp. He is super understanding of student circumstances. Attendance is taken. Exams are easy if you pay attention and lightly review material.
This class is interesting and relevant. Prof. Rubin is super passionate about the class and likes to throw stories and current events into the lectures. Attendance for lectures is taken. Labs can be done on your own, so you don't have to show up to lab on Friday (a BLESSING). Labs aren't too bad, some suck more than others. Exams are tough so study
Professor Rubin is absolutely amazing. The class was always great and he really makes lectures enjoyable. The work is extremely manageable. I think everyone no matter what their major is should take his class. TAs are also super helpful.
Professor Rubin makes his lectures interesting with his stories and relevant with current events and personal real-world examples. The quizzes are easy, labs vary in difficulty but can be done by yourself, projects are easy, and exams are relatively easy.
Professor Rubin was my first IST professor at Syracuse and is one of the BEST IST professors in this school. You need to show up to class to understand the material and as for exams, they are super easy. Please study!! The questions on the exam are straightforward as long as you make an outline and say "Oh I know this means this" and turn in work!!
Professor Rubin is an amazing professor! Please attend lectures to get a better understanding because he uses real-world examples and he records attendance (but not a major part of grade). If you study for a test (he gave us a pdf of concepts that were going to be on the test so it'll be easier to know what to expect), you will get a high grade!
Everyone loves him, and for good reason. Every week there is a quiz and lab, and recitations are not necessary unless you need lab help. The exams can be hard, but I genuinely enjoyed his lectures and the content. I wouldn't take unless you are interested in the subject and want to listen to it. He teaches very well and content is easy to manage.
Great guy and great class. You need a 95+ to get an A, but if you put in the work, that's not too hard to get. Labs, projects, and the likes are step by step, easy to get full credit, quizzes are open notes based on the textbook readings (only place textbook is used), only thing difficult are the tests, so truly study for those and you'll get an A.
Enjoyable lectures, interesting labs, very fair grading and work amount
Professor Rubin is my DADDY! He is a very laid back professor who cares about the topic he teaches and about his students. Gives extra credit in the early parts of the class and then forgets about it. Only 2 exams and a final. There are weekly quizzes and labs, and every once in a while a not so hard project. Great class! Love Jeff Rubin!
Rubin made 195 an easy class because of all the opportunities to get extra credit. He gave us +4 points on our final exam because SYR won the national soccer championship. My only complaints are the mandatory attendence and the amount of projects (the first one was really annoying). Exams are based entirely on lectures, so pay attention and review.
Overall the class was good with engaging lectures. There are weekly labs that don't take too long and quizzes due every Sunday online but they are open book. The exams can be somewhat difficult but just make sure you study and know the material.
Great guy. Grading criteria is a bit different. You need a 95% to get an A. So that's tough. Each week is a lab and quiz. You don't need to go to lab. Most labs were easy. Quizzes also easy. You get 2 attempts. There are 3 easy-mid projects. The tests are easy as long as you study. I would take IST 195 again.
I enjoyed his class thouroughly
So hard to reach, nearly impossible to pass. avoid his class
He's a sports guy so it's always bought up in lectures. If I got better scores on my exams I would've gotten an A. All of his exams are multiple choice and you don't need to go to lab on Fridays, you have a whole week to do it. The textbook isn't mandatory but he tells you it is first day of class. Lectures were easy to follow and the TAs are nice.
Prof. Rubin is wonderful - he's clear about what he teaches and is clearly interested in teaching it - Theres an attendance check at the end of every class but it was interesting to go if you like IT - labs and online quiz every week were the only outside work with 3 exams that weren't bad if you go and listen
Interesting professor that you can learn a lot from. Exams are almost weighed of half of the grade and they are all multiple choice. Quizzes and labs are easy since you can complete them online and projects are boring but just get them done.
Go to lab hours if you need help the weekly quiz answers can all be found in the textbook. Spend the time to review the study guide and you will do fine on the exams. Projects are not graded harshly. Attendance is taken at the end of each class but they take down names if you show up too late. Remember his sports fun facts for extra credit on exams
Class is pretty easy, quiz and test questions are taken directly from the lecture slides, there are group recitation assignments that are pretty annoying but basically free 100s, but Professor Rubin alone makes the class worth it, he's a funny guy and his lectures are interesting and engaging.
Best professor ever. Very funny guy. Made me interested in topics that I did not even care about. Is very clear about what is on exams. He gives study guides that give you every term you need. Just make a quizlet with those terms and the info from his slides and you will do well on exams. Most labs are easy and homework quizzes are east as well.
Prof Rubin is just a chill, funny guy who happens to be really good at teaching. He's knowledgable, has a lot of experience in the industry and gives really engaging lectures. His tests and quizzes are also relatively easy. The only tough thing is the lab. If you have an opportunity to take a class with him, be excited!
Rubin is a wonderful professor. He was able to get me interested in topics I didn't necessarily have any interest in. Lectures are interesting and I was able to learn a lot. One book quiz, lab, and recitation assignment per week. Two exams and a final that are easy if you study. Fantastic class and professor, highly recommend!
professor Rubin was easily one of the most engaging and fun classes i took. He made lectures so engaging and i felt like i genuinely learned with his real world examples and connections. He is very educated and cares alot about his students and their succes, is always happy to talk to students, and is overall an amazing professor
Great professor, engaging lectures. I learned a lot more than I expected to. The projects are interesting and fun. A little gripe as that the grading scale is kind of weird.
